The Simple Soul In The Phaedo And The Republic
Within this essay, I am going to argue that the simple soul is a more plausible conception than the idea
of multiplicity within the soul within Plato s work. This is due to the multiplicity of the soul resting on
a circular argument of Plato s ideal city which in turn rests back upon his idea of the tripartite soul.
However, it can also be argued that neither conceptions of the soul are plausible due to them both
relying on Plato s theory of the Forms. Throughout Plato s works of the Phaedo and the Republic, his
account for the soul is conflicting as Plato s two accounts cannot be reconciled. I will also refer to
Plato s work in the Phaedrus to aid my explanation of the multiplicity within the soul.
Simplicity of the soul
Plato s theory of the simplicity of the soul is seen in the Phaedo. Through the mouthpiece of Socrates,
Plato argues for a simple soul which only has one true aim. He states that the soul only seeks truth and
that all other senses and experiences are merely distractions through the soul being embodied the soul
reasons best when none of these senses troubles it, neither hearing nor sight, nor pain nor pleasure, but
when it is most by itself, taking leave of the body and as far as possible having no contact or
association with it in its search for reality. (Plato, 1997, §65c). The simple soul can only aim to grasp
the truth of reality which it gets closer to as man becomes closer to death. This is why, in Plato s
opinion, a philosopher in particular can

Lean Manufacturing Is The Fundamental Means For The...
Introduction
Manufacturing has been perceived as the fundamental means for the development of the economy.
Always showing signs of changing global environment, which has been posturing difficulties of
intensity and survival to every one of the constituents of the economy. Manufacturers everywhere
throughout the world have constantly confronted uplifted difficulties, for example, rising client s
interest for better and enhanced items, fanciful interest, and rivalry in business sectors. There is no
mistrust that the manufacturers are continually grasping changes and enhancements in their key
exercises or procedures to adapt to the steadily developing difficulties.

According to (Homa Sheikh Sajadieh, 2013) Waste elimination is one of the most effective ways to
increase the profitability of any business. Processes either add value or waste to the production of a
good or service. The seven wastes originated in Japan, where waste is known as muda . The seven
wastes is a tool to further categorize muda and was originally developed by Toyota s Chief Engineer
Taiichi Ohno as the core of the Toyota Production System, also known as Lean Manufacturing. To
eliminate waste, it is important to understand exactly what waste is and where it exists. While
products significantly differ between factories, the typical wastes found in manufacturing
environments are quite similar. For each waste, there is a strategy to reduce or eliminate its effect on a
company, thereby improving overall performance and quality .
The seven types of waste are:
1. Waste from overproduction.
2. Waste from waiting times.
3. Waste from transportation and handling.
4. Waste related to useless and excess inventories.
5. Waste in the production process.
6. Useless motions.
7. Waste from scrap and defects.
According to (Okpala, 2014) In Lean Production System, waste (which is referred to as muda in
Japan) is described as anything that destroys resources and does not add any value to the customer s
requirements. This is because manufacturing waste is the application of resources like raw materials,
labor, equipment, or machines over and above what is

Handmaids Tale Comparison
Kazuo Ishiguro in Never Let Me Go and Mike Barker in The Handmaid s Tale similarly develop plots
in which they explore the accomplishment of authority from the expulsion of human connections.
Each author utilises setting, metaphor and symbolism to heighten how the impact of isolation,
breakdown of family structure and removal of identification prevents connections. Thus
demonstrating that without human networks authority can achieve ultimate supremacy.
Ishiguro and Barker utilise physical settings to restrict the respective isolated minorities from any
connection with people from the outside world . Ishiguro creates a school styled establishment,
Hailsham, a place where the clones, the protagonists, grow up in. The building is at the end ... Show

Barker eradicates the handmaid s names and instead they must take the name of their Commander.
June s name Offred demonstrates that she is the property of her Commander, and thus the
institutionalised regimes forbid any individuality amongst the handmaids. Likewise, Ishiguro does not
provide the clones with a last name, symbolising that their ability to distinguish each other is non
existence and thus their identity is unknown. Consequently, the clones become desperate to find their
possible , the people with whom they share genes, representing their yearning for acceptance and
belonging within the community. Flashbacks are displayed in The Handmaids Tale through altered
light exposure and diegetic sounds which are often unheard in the Republic of Gilead to provoke
unsettlement within the audiences, due to the similarities with present society. These scenes depict
June with her family and have her consecutively centre frame with a levelled shot alluding to her
control. However, in Gilead June, along with the other handmaids are often placed in the frames
corners viewed through high angles. Barker demonstrates that with the breakdown of family structure,
individuals become powerless and marginalised. Similarly, Ishiguro shows how dystopian elements in

American Jazz Artist Miles Davis Essay
Kind of Blue. This studio album released by American jazz artist Miles Davis is heavily regarded as
the quintessential and definitive jazz album. Many critics regard it as jazz s greatest record and one of
the best albums of all time. Along with redefining and revolutionizing jazz, its influence on music has
been unprecedented. The music theory, style, and organization of Kind of Blue has been one of the
biggest influences on several genres since its creation; including but not limited to rock, funk, fusion,
indie, and hip hop. The culture of jazz is extremely unique in music, and Davis s album changed that
culture and changed the culture of several different genres and music itself. To truly understand the
massive legacy and influence created by Kind of Blue, one would have go back to the beginning of
jazz all the way to modern music. Jazz might just be the most unique genre of music in the world.
Pairing true artistry and creativity with immense technicality and skill creates music that is simply
incomparable. Originating from the African American communities of New Orleans in the 1910 s, jazz
was a fresh new creation heavily predominated by African Americans. Early forms featured brass
bands playing a ragtime and swing style of music, with improvisation, and unique and syncopated
rhythm and blues. Within music, syncopated means offbeat rhythm. While not popular at first, this
early form of jazz started becoming well liked and by the 1920 s many artists were

Access Controls And Access Control
This chapter is basically based on access control in regards to computer information security. Access
control is seen as the fundamental mechanism put in place to help make information security
successful. Access control feature, in a particular system, will control how users can communicate,
access and modify system resources and programs. Access control was described in this chapter as a
very useful tool for the computer information security because it helps with ensuring that unauthorized
person or program have no access to what they are not supposed to. Access control is regarded as the
first line of defense to control, protect and monitor organization s resource s availability,
confidentiality and integrity.
Furthermore, this chapter illustrates how users can be granted access to network resources. It
explained that for a user to be allowed access to a network he must satisfy the condition of
identification and authentication. The identification part could be something of user ID, name or
account number. The identification key is not enough to grant access, but it s simply a way of
introducing yourself by saying who you are. Then, at that point the system will request for you to
authenticate yourself (confirm who you said you are) by requesting for an authentication key. The
authentication key could be password, passphrase, personal identification number (PIN), or a token.
Once, the authentication is verified and the system found it to be correct, then access will be

Literature V And Catullus
Literature from different time periods and different parts of the world has served as a mode of
influencing people and sparking reform. However, sometimes pieces of literature have unknowingly
influenced other modern day aspects. These similar connections may be found in other present day
literary works, or films, songs, events, and just about anything. For instance, the ancient poem,
Carmen 8 written by Roman poet, Catullus greatly influenced the modern day song, I Fall Apart
performed by Post Malone through similar uses of egocentric tone, masculine stereotypes, battling
internal conflicts, the theme of rejection, and a sense of a deranged mind.
To being with, the ancestor work, Carmen 8 written by Catullus in a few words is a pep talk to
himself, after an illicitly amorous affair between Catullus and a woman by the pseudo name of Lesbia
suddenly ends. The poem opens with Catullus chiding himself for being too gullible and not noticing
the obvious end to the affair. He describes the end as a cease of light in the lines, once there were
sunlit days when you followed after where ever a girl would go... Those were the bright days gone;
now she s no longer yielding, (Gregory, L. 3 8). After Catullus reminisces over his love for Lesbia, he
again rebukes himself for being emasculate by weeping over a woman. Furthermore, Catullus slanders
Lesbia and sneeringly rhetorically asks her what man will compliment her, claim her, and kiss her, if it
is not him anymore. Catullus ends the poem reassuring himself to be firm as rock as, (Gregory, L. 17).
Similar to Carmen 8, the descendant work, I Fall Apart performed by Post Malone is a reflection of a
breakup. The song starts with a quick summary of the breakup, which was the girl not thinking Post
Malone was sufficient for her, thus she left him suddenly and heartbroken. Post Malone goes on to
reiterate the feeling of his heart breaking, and also stating that he had never loved with greater
immensity in the lines, never caught a feelin this hard, harder than the liquor I pour, (Malone, L. 17
18). Moreover, Post Malone insults the girl, after he states he cannot move on from her even after
everyone else but him had seen the end coming. Towards the end of the

Efficient Market Hypothesis
Introduction
The efficient markets hypothesis (EMH) is a dominant financial markets theory developed by Michael
Jensen, a graduate of the University of Chicago and one of the creators of the efficient markets
hypothesis, stated that, there is no other proposition in economics which has more solid empirical
evidence supporting it than the Efficient Markets Hypothesis [Jensen, 1978, 96]. This paper analyzes
whether it is possible to measure if markets are efficient in the strong form of EMH. A generation ago,
the efficient market hypothesis was widely accepted by academic financial economists; for example,
Eugene Fama s (1970) influential survey article, Efficient Capital Markets. It was generally believed
that securities markets were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This implies that it is impossible to beat the market. Many studies shed light on whether investment
advisers and mutual funds (some of which charge steep sales commissions to people who purchase
them) beat the market. One common test that has been performed is to take buy and sell
recommendations from a group of advisers or mutual funds and compare the performance of the
resulting selection of stocks with the market as a whole. Sometimes the advisers choices have even
been compared to a group of stocks chosen by throwing darts at a copy of the financial page of the
newspaper tacked to a dartboard. The Wall Street Journal, for example, used to have a regular feature
called Investment Dartboard that compared how well stocks picked by investment advisers did relative
to stocks picked by throwing darts. Did the advisers win? To their embarrassment, the dartboard beat
them as often as they beat the dartboard. Furthermore, even when the comparison included only
advisers who had been successful in the past in predicting the stock market, the advisers still didn t
regularly beat the dartboard. Consistent with the efficient market hypothesis, mutual funds also do not
beat the market. Not only do mutual funds not outperform the market on average, but when they are
separated into groups according to whether they had the highest or lowest profits in a chosen period,

NFL 50 Green Initiatives
For the last five to ten years, the National Football League (NFL) have become a more
environmentally friendly organization. NFL 50 green initiatives included solar energy, use of
reclaimed water and wood and waste recycling. The Levi s Stadium in San Francisco, that hosted the
Super Bowl 50, is the NFL s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold
certified stadium endorsing renewable energy. The stadium uses 85% reclaimed water and reclaimed
wood and 64% of all consumer waste and 87% of durable goods in the stadium are recycled. While in
the Super Bowl 49, at the University of Phoenix Stadium, the green initiatives included distributing
food to local food banks, recycling sports equipment, supporting urban forestry projects and the use of
renewable energy. Similarly, the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, host for the Super Bowl 45 is a green
stadium. The stadium is aiming to reduce its solid waste by 25 percent, its energy by 20 percent and its
water consumption by a million gallons annually. On the other hand, the Philadelphia Eagles although

main intent was to address the waste of water, but for people watching the ad to buy the product and
as a result the Colgate toothpaste sales could rise. According to Hayley Cucinello, Forbes contributor,
each company had to pay CBS at least $5 million per 30 seconds of airtime, which proves the logic
behind using the water conservation theme to spark the interest of viewers in Colgate toothpaste while
watching the NFL 50. Regardless the hidden intent, this commercial was good for the environmental

Chuang Tzu s Basic Writings Essay
Chuang Tzu s Basic Writings, with his idea of the way which is effortless and ineffable, seem to
suggest a minimalist take on government. The Daoist philosophy present in the text has no room for
organized hierarchy or unified morality in the understanding of the world. This leaves no room for
government whose laws and bureaucracy are based on codified morality and hierarchy. The
government must also allow its citizens to practice the wu wei, which means the government would
have to allow individual freedom. Thus the only suitable form of government following the way
would be a limited structure emphasizing individual morality essentially a libertarian form of
government. There is a lack of hierarchy in Chuang Tzu s Daoism due to the belief in the
indistinguishable position of the individual to the rest of humanity and humanity to all the world. This
is evident in The Dream and The Butterfly in which Chuang Tzu shows that the perspective of a
human is no truer than the perspective of a butterfly. In the fable, Chuang Tzu s questioning of which
organism is the reality and which is the dream blurs the distinction between humanity and nature. This
is consistent with Chuang Tzu s belief that humanity is one with nature, meaning that human
government should reflect the form of hierarchy present in the natural world. Such a belief in the most
natural sense of hierarchy would at first suggest that the way is a path of egalitarianism; however, this
belief that, in nature,

Summary Of The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
Bradbury s Words to You
Desmond Tutu, a South African leader once said, You do not choose your family. They are God s gift
to you, as you are to them. In the short story The Veldt , Ray Bradbury conveys the idea that no
material object that has ever been crafted, is more valuable than your family because your family
provides you with vital growth. He does this by telling the tragic tale of parents Lydia and George who
are killed by their spoiled and technology obsessed children, Wendy and Peter. Through foreshadow,
symbolism and imagery, Bradbury believes that kids need to respect their parents, otherwise there will
be grave consequences.
Bradbury uses the term The Happy House in an ironic manner to foreshadow the very unhappy demise
of the Hadley family. The Hadley s home consists of an abundance of high technological machines to
do all the work around the house for them, called the Happylife Home . The description of the house
provides the reader with an understanding that the family is very lazy for having machines doing all
the work for them as they are described as ... the house that bathed and fed them and was good to them
. However, despite the comforts this home brings, the Hadley parents become more and more worried
with the machines throughout the story. The beginning of the story foreshadows this: George, I wish
you d look at the nursery. What s wrong with it? I don t know. I just want you to look at it, is all, or
call a psychologist in to look at it.

The Pros And Cons Of Lone Wolf Terrorism
Before the delegation enters the subject of Lone Wolf terrorism, the delegation believes the definition
of terrorism must be addressed first, in order to distinguish the differences.
The definition of the European Union (2013) characterizes terrorism as an premeditated act with the
aim of seriously intimidating a population, or unduly compelling a government or international
organization to perform or abstain from performing any act, or seriously destabilizing or destroying
the fundamental political, constitutional, economic or social structures of a country or an international
organization (European Union, 2002, p. 4).
Although this definition is proper, the United Kingdom has their own definition for this atrocious act.

According to several figures from the Global Terrorism Database, between 2000 2017, 126 have been
killed in the UK as a result of a terrorist act, this, compared to the 1,094 deaths between 1985 1999,
and a further 2,211 deaths among 1970 1984, leads us to the conclusion that terrorism is killing less
people in the UK now, than it was in the 1980 s.
Since 1970 UK has faced the most deaths, as a result of a terrorism act, in Western Europe, with a
total of 3,395.
With the UK s threat level left at severe, terrorism is an increasing concern for the people in Europe,
but figures show that Europe is one of safest areas, compared to other regions, like the Middle East or
North Africa.
In spite of the low numbers in the past years, terrorist attacks and lone wolf terrorism should not be
taken lightly.
Since early 2003, the United Kingdom has had a long term strategy for countering international
terrorism (known by the Government as CONTEST). Its aim is to reduce the risk from international
terrorism. The strategy is divided into four principal strands: prevent, pursue, protect, and

Jerry Tello Analysis
The presentation that Jerry Tello gave was like none I ve been to before. It was very entertaining and
informational all at once. There were a few parts that really struck a cord for me, but I m going to
focus on one particular one because I understand and relate to it and I find it extremely irritated by
how more and more children don t know, agree with or understand what s wrong. He described how
one day when he was a little boy he sighed and turned his back on his mother when she was asking his
to do something and he was spanked by his father for the first and only time in his life.

Your job is to provide, teach and support your children. More specifically, to teach them how to be
able to function in the world. This means teaching them how to behave respectfully to others, not just
you. If you re not a single parent home or if you have help from others it is especially important for
you guys to be on the same page on how to teach what you need to and how discipline works into the
situation because if not, more than likely the first thing the child or children will do is try to pin you
guys against each other (I say this because that is what me and my siblings tried to do...it only worked
once). It s good to catch disrespectful behavior early if possible. If your child is rude or disrespectful,
it s not good to turn a blind eye. Giving consequences when children are younger will pay off in the
long run. It may sound old fashioned, but I find that it s very important to teach your child basic
manners like saying please , may I and thank you. If you think about it, when your child deals with
their teachers, others outside the household or even gets their first job these common manners will
really go a long way and using manners is also a form of empathy. It also teaches your children to
respect others and acknowledge their impact on other people. As a parent myself (though my child is
still young but I have raised others) I also find it a good idea to communicate

Sometimes we are scared or paranoid about bacteria or germ because it can give us illness or can spoil

Reflection About Reading
You have to read 10 hours this week said my first grade teacher. In elementary school reading logs
were what all the teachers made us do. Every week I had to read a certain amount of hours. I however,
never read the amount of hours I was supposed too. I would just fill out the log and tell my mom to
sign it. At that time it sounded like a good idea but then came freshman year. Mrs. Daugherty changed
my whole perspective on reading and how important it is to read. In elementary school reading never
came easy too me. My mom would always say The more you read, the better you ll be. but I never
listened to her. Books were just not interesting to me. We would have book fairs in our school library
and I would always ask my grandma to come and buy me a bunch of books, but in reality I never even
read the books that she bought me. I would wonder around the library looking for the perfect book

The game looks good, but there are better looking games out there. It s also not packed to the rafters
with visual extras like other games are. Despite this it s still possible to find yourself scoring lots of
free spins if your unicorn or horse is the better equine. As you d expect from a Novomatic title the
variance is medium high. There will be the occasional down spell where it seems like you can t win
anything, this up and downs nature of game really does make a Wild Horses a true wild ride.
Hats and whips at the ready
Gameplay wise, this title stands by the traditional Novomatic control system, in the sense that it is
easy to understand. Neatly slotted in below the reels at the bottom of the screen, you ll be able to
tweak the game through a select number buttons. Spin, Line, and more can all be tapped to your heart
s content. Being honest, there is very little within the Wild Horse control setup that will catch players
off guard.

Rap Music Research Paper
Rap Music Rap music has never been seen as a positive artistry by the media, but maybe the media is
just doing what it always does and portrays everything with a poor opinion and rap music really doesn
t influence someone s behavior as much as the media would like you to think. Socially everyone
thinks that kids that listen to rap music are more prone to violence and abuse towards women and that
is how it has been looked at in our culture, when really it s not the actually listening of the music than
it is the rap videos themselves that portray the misogynistic views and create misogynistic attitudes
within the audience that lead to a more accepting view of violence against women. Rap is stereotyped

Since culture is our shared reality, created and sustained through common experience, American
experience is now largely that which is shaped and maintained by the mass media... Violent music
lyrics have been shown to increase aggressive thoughts and feelings.... This creation of culture
through popular media was sadly exemplified recently when radio personality Don Imus referred to a
college women s basketball team as nappy headed ho s. Sadder still, many responded that the racist
and sexist language was acceptable because that type of language is used by minorities in rap music.
Unfortunately racist and sexist slurs influence real people, for example sending the message to girls
that this is how our society views them and causing issues with self esteem and identity. (Karen Dill,
2013) As she said above the radio host described college basketball girls nappy headed ho s which
would get any radio host now fired immediately without a second thought. Later on in her article she
explains how people believe that the media does not affect them, when in saying that it still does.
Karen list s five reasons why people misperceive that the media affects them: Person s natural
tendency to reject the notion that our habits are harmful, a mistaken view of how media effects work,
that media are produced primarily to entertain us, that media do not affect the viewer. She ends the
writing with wise saying. Our country is expanding and granting more freedom but you cannot be
granted freedom from consequences, tying that together with another wise quote, you reap what you
sow. If you want peace, be peaceful. If you want justice, be just. If you start taking in hate and

The Between Westminster And Brussels
Nowadays, legislation of both Westminster and Brussels has become the main source of the law for
the UK. Moreover, United Kingdom has its own law, which is called English legal system equally
Brussels has a major role within the UK as it part of the predominant source for the UK. Therefore,
this paper will firstly examine and give brief description of the legislative power. Then, it will define
the legislative powers of both Westminster and Brussels and their roles. Consequently, it will explain
the important roles and show how these roles are played by the English courts and the European courts
of justice (ECJ). Also, it will show how Brussels enforce compliance with treaty provisions and
explain how European Union citizens approach the European courts of justice.
Since United Kingdom joined to the European Union it has gradually and effectively passed its power
of making law that have an impact to the European institutions. Also, United Kingdom s legislative,
executive and judicial powers are controlled by the framework of the European Community (Slapper
and Kelly, 2010 p.65). The legislation is considered as the primary sources of English law and made
by the Parliament. Also, Parliament it is a supreme law making body and can make law or reject and
amend legislation. However, by the United Kingdom s membership of the EU per EC Act 1972 the
Parliament s power of creating law has been limited (Vollans and Asquith, 2011). In addition,

Letter From Birmingham Jail And Nonviolent Protests Essay
Letter from Birmingham jail and Nonviolent Protests
In Martin Luther King Jr s Letter from Birmingham jail , King talks about his imprisonment for his
involvement in a nonviolent protest and defends his rights and moral grounds for organizing
nonviolent protest activities. In this essay, I will look at his views on nonviolent protest and how they
differ from todays violent protests. To understand King s views on nonviolent protest, I will start by
summarizing some of the main points in his Letter from Birmingham jail . In spite of the fact that the
Letter is verifiably worried with justice all through, King likewise addresses the question specifically
at a few focuses. In actuality, he places that justice maintains the poise of the human soul, while
injustice conflicts with it. By talking about this idea by and large, he builds up criteria by which to
obscurely assault both segregation and silence it. He at last suggests that the man who sees injustice
and does nothing to stop it is acting unjustly also. Taking after this thought, he contends that laws must
be permeated with an ethical sense so as to be just; as such, law and morality can not be viewed as
independent interests or areas. The best way to really enact change and help humankind rise above its
confinements is to act with as well as grasp extremism . According to Mott, That this action had been
termed extreme King admits initially disappointed him. But King decides that if loyalty to good

RISD Personal Statement
I currently attend the Rhode Island School of Design, a prestigious art and design institution, majoring
in Graphic Design. Having attended RISD for the past two years, I have experienced what is valuable
and matured to find out what I want for myself. Simply, I want to pursue a computation/computer
science related field upholding values of strong design application. Looking at alumni in relation to
my skills and interests, I have assurance that I will do fine, but I don t want to do just fine. As an artist
and designer of the 21st century, it is important for me to know and connect the values of technology
with design to enhance communication in relation to the current age. Although RISD is a great
institution, it does not offer the specific resources that I want to pursue; I am interested in an
environment that can cultivate my passion in other applications whereas RISD is rooted in a more
departmental tradition. I believe that in order to have a more complex understanding of one subject,
investigating other subjects through a design mindset, would allow me to seek a more passionate
advance towards design. Rather than existing in a bubble where art and design were merely
conventions to live by, a more integrative approach to design, to see computational knowledge
incorporated into the fundamentals of design, and vice versa, is something that I want to contribute to
the developing world. Design does not live within an art school but it exists within its application.
Thus, I want to transfer to an institution that can offer an intersection of design and computation. ...

The Concept of Energy Intake and Expenditure in Sports...
Task 2 Describe (P3) or explain (M1) the concept of energy intake and expenditure in sports
performance.
The concept of energy intake and expenditure refers to the amount of calories per day that an
individual consumes, and is the chemical energy in foods which can be metabolized to produce energy
available to the body. As stated before energy is obtained from the foods we eat and is used to support
an individual s Basal Metabolic Rate, energy is measured in calories or joules as both units are very
small they are multiplied by 1,000 and referred to as kilocalories. Different foods provide us with
different amounts of energy, and the potential fuel sources available to exercising muscles are fats 1

The energy cost of football is estimated as being 16.4kcal per minute amounting to 1480 kcal for a 90
minute match. This therefore highlights that the individual needs post match fluid and food intake in
order to replace lost energy.
Task 3 Describe (P4), explain (M2) or analyse (D1) the importance of energy balance and their effect
on sports performance.
Energy is expended in a number of different ways such as the stated above; resting metabolic rate,
thermic effect of activity, thermic effect of feeding and adaptive thermogenesis. An individual s
energy balance is the balance of calories consumed through eating and drinking compared to calories
burned through physical activity, what an individual drinks and eat is energy in. what an individual
burns though physical activity is energy out. Body weight is maintained and stable in the state of
energy balance, the chemical bonds of carbohydrates, proteins and fats in food contain chemical
energy which is then transformed in the human body in multiple metabolic processes to cellular
energy, heat or stored energy. An individual s burns a certain number of calories just by breathing air
and digested food. They also burn a certain number of calories through their daily routine, an
important part of maintaining energy balance is the amount of physical activity an

Causes Of Disaster In Science Fiction

People are afraid of what will happen if any kind of disaster would destroy the world into extinction.
People would believe that these Science Fiction stories can make them believe that disaster can lead

their anxieties and well prepared to get ready if any kind of disaster were to going to occur. People are

Science Fiction stories about disaster makes us be more afraid of extinction, I believed that the feeling
of disaster could trigger human anxiety right away, because it could happen in reality at any time in

Melting Pot Myths
Final Essay The myths of this chapter were all interesting, but two of them were especially
noteworthy. The Myth of the Melting Pot and of the Myths of Freedom were the most significant and
far reaching myths of the book. These are myths that every American has engrained in their minds.
Ever since birth Americans are told that they live in a free country with a diverse cultured society. But
these myths are misleading. The myth of the Melting Pot and of Freedom in accord with the other
myths mentioned in this book deceivingly make the United States appear to be more equal than it
actually is. The Myth of the Melting Pot says that the United States is like a melting pot of cultures

The country lacks the freedoms that were originally promised during its formation and also specific
freedoms that would have been reasonable to establish during this day and age. First of all, the country
lacks one of the rights promised in the First Amendment, which is the freedom of press. In The
Decline of American Press Freedom , Anne Applebaum explains many instances where freedom of
press was restricted. One of these restrictions was in Yale where the University Press was not allowed
to publish their book due to the controversial topic it was discussing. The book talked about the events
following the publication of comical depictions of the Prophet Muhammad in a 2005 Danish
newspaper. The university said that the publication was too much of a safety threat and should not be
published. (638 646) In this case, safety was valued more than a promised liberty. Next are the
liberties that were never established but should be. Lori Andrews, in her piece George Orwell... Meet

Science And Its Effect On Society Essay
Science is the process which discovers knowledge, knowledge in turn is power, and power is said to
bring about corruption. Therefore, through the transitive property, that implies that science will only
lead to corruption. Not necessarily a corruption of one s actions; for instance, science won t make a
politician accept a bribe. However, some would argue that science will lead to a degradation of
morals. For example, contemporary science may lead to a woman viewing her unborn baby as naught
but a ball of cells, similar to a tumor, which can be removed from her body with no moral dilemma.
The converse to this is the impediment of science due to humanity clinging to its archaic values. This
can be shown by the opposition to stem cell research and genetically modified embryos in the name of
morals and the inviolability of life. The stark contrast between following morals and advancing
science creates a juxtaposition that often manifests itself as a debate between religion and science.
Certain members of both the scientific and religious communities blindly adhere to their own opinions
and ideals. This butting of heads helps no one. As a result, a middle road must be found, one in which
neither progress nor morality are ignored. The polarity between these two forces is encapsulated by
the differences that Bertolt Brecht draws in his play Galileo between Galileo and the clergymen. This
play, when contrasted with the reality of Galileo s studies, provides a vehicle to discuss the

The Music And Arts Program
On Monday, April 18, 2016, I observed a School Board Meeting at Chenango Valley School District at

members that were present were: Mr. David P. Gill, Superintendent, Mrs. Elizabeth Dicosimo,

Executive. The main topics that were discussed were the music and arts program being cut in half,
updated information on the school districts from principals, and the French Exchange Program.
During my observation, I noticed that the board members were not very responsive. At first, the
environment was very uncomfortable and the meeting felt very unorganized. As the meeting continued
and others took over, the meeting became friendlier and more welcoming. When the public was

Crystals are a piece of a solid substance with a natural shape or form with arranged plane faces. A

Slavery 1680-1860

It was simply a low wage job, cleaning, cooking and beckoning to there owners needs. They owned
there own property where there families live and attended the local churches every Sunday. With time
they had freedom, agreements to be released from indentured servants and free with rights. Indentured
servants were quite scarce and expensive and the issue of equal rights presented a major challenge to
developing slave states like Virginia. Indentured servants slowly became life long servants, having no
chance of release at a certain age. By 1660, laws were being enacted that defined the regulated slave
relations. By 1680, slaves were chattel, nothing but property sold as commodities and traded. With

Vermont and Pennsylvania both abolished slavery and in 1808 slaves importation was outlawed. In
response to the anti slavery movements the panic of 1819 occurred, being the first depression. Slavery
was in a major decline and there was commodity inflation. In 1823, US circuit courts declared
removal of inhuman treatment of slaves. In 1826, kidnapping is a felony which effectively nullified
fugitive slaves act, stopping all ability for slave owners to gain more slaves in the states, and
importation of slaves was already outlawed. This hurt the slave trade significantly and put the colonies
into the panic of 1837. There was a downturn in the economy, cotton prices fell, inflated food prices
and high unemployment all due to the downfall and outlawing of slavery. 1840, An African American

Mexicans And Mexican American Youth
Throughout our history as a nation, we have earned a reputation of undermining the relationships we
have had with minorities and of largely neglecting their needs. Our almost hostile nature towards
minorities in the United States can largely be seen in the treatment of Mexicans and Mexican
American citizens in the times surrounding World War Two. Such hostilities are reflected in our
treatment of Mexican Americans in the late 19th after the Civil War and early 20th centuries, the
Sleepy Lagoon murder responses, and the Zoot Suit riots. My primary source reveals a feeling of
inferiority in the United States by the Mexican American youth due discrimination that they faced,
which can be better understood by analyzing the cultural contexts. As railroads expanded during the
United States western expansionist period in the late 19th century, Mexican immigration along with
Eastern migration grew in the west. Once the Mexican immigrants arrived, they largely occupied
commercial agriculture in large farms, mining industries, and the construction of railroads, but were
generally paid very little. During this time, as Arizona State History Professor Manuel P. Servín
explained, the Mexican Americans that had been here for years had already begun to feel despised by
the Western Expansionists, and were looked at as less American and an unassimilable foreigner. The
lower class Mexican immigrants and citizens largely assimilated on rail road cities, or Sonora towns,

A Study on the Urinary System and Preeclampsia
The Urinary System and Pre eclampsia: The Urinary system comprises of tubes, organs, nerves, and
muscles that work together to develop, store, and transport urine. The system is basically made up of
two ureters, two kidneys, the urethra, two sphincter muscles, and the bladder. This system in the
human body is primarily concerned with the filtering of extra fluid and substances from the
bloodstream in the form of urine. While urine is used to extract extra blood corpuscles, vitamins, or
mineral from the human body, it s a liquid created by the kidneys, gathered in the bladder, and filtered
through the urethra. Notably, the urinary system is an important part of the human body since it works
with other systems to assist in maintenance of homeostasis.
Normal Physiology of the Urinary System: The basic function of the urinary system is to remove the
urea waste from the body, which is produced following the breaking down of foods containing protein
and some vegetables. The urea is transported in the bloodstreams to the kidneys, which are bean
shaped organs. These kidneys in turn extract the urea from the blood through nephrons i.e. tiny
filtering units that consist of small blood capillaries and a small tube. In addition to other waste
substances and water, urea forms the urine as it passes through the tiny filtering units and down the
small tube ( The Urinary System , n.d.). This is followed by the travelling of the urine down the two
thin tubes known as ureters to the

Foucault and Nietzsche on Knowledge
The concept of power should be considered with greater attention because it shows a path to which
Foucault adheres, to an extent, but not to the discharge of other pathways that contradict it. In fact,
productive power comes from Foucault s idea that contradictory vision disables power against a self
governing subject and does not understand the connection of power and its subject. What is more
important, is that Foucault makes a rational connection between knowledge and power, stating that
power relations are predicated on knowledge, but the latter does not imply power relations.
Nonetheless, the denial of independent knowledge is associated with the independent individuality,
which means that power and knowledge are combined to deliver a form of subjectivity. A
psychological identity relates to a persons self image and needs to be revealed by delivering an idea
that defines modern outlooks on individual. The human sciences develop different aspects of
individuality and identity and, therefore, they are based on the assumption that science is a reflection
of power relations leading to knowledge expansion. According to John McGowan, in The Problem of
Freedom in Postmodern Theory, knowledge, power, and the subject are shown to be intimately related
to one another within a single productive process (p. 129). In this instance, it could be stated that
power is considered to be the major source of knowledge and subject. The connection between
knowledge and power creates the

dad rushed to the hospital for the third time that week. Today felt different though, today would be the
day. It took 17 long hours in the Jackson Memorial Hospital but finally at 9:50 PM, I was born.I was
peacefully cheerful the second I was born. Immediately looking around and contentedly observing the
loving family that surrounded me:my mother crying tears of joy, my father, and my grandmother. The
world so colossal and full of possibilities for a small baby. 7 pounds 11 ounces, green eyes, the newest
addition to the family. Jim and Michelle all filled with pride with the delicate object of endless
possibilities on how she will impact and shape today s world.
Haydn Arminta Sage. The only girl name my parents could agree on. It took many months to decide
on the name. It took many months of vigorously searching through baby name books in the local
Barnes and Noble. Until they finally agreed on Haydn if I was a girl or Sterling if I was a boy. My
parents like the name not only because of how it sounded but also the meaning behind it. Haydn
means field of heather and fire ; the perfect balance. I was also named after the famous composer
Joseph Haydn, who is also one of my parents favorite composers. ... Show more content on

Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Vaccine Essay
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine
My niece is 11 years old and my sister in law is being pressured from doctors, friends, and even the
news media to give her a certain type of vaccination called HPV, Gardasil being the most common. At
the end of our conversation, she mentions that at least she has a choice and turned to me, saying you
may not have a choice when your kids are that age. I was stunned and she goes on to tell me how the
government is trying very hard to make this particular vaccination mandatory. Upon further research, I
have discovered that this particular vaccine should not be amongst the mandatory vaccines, because
unlike the others this particular disease is not transmitted through the air rather it is through sexual
contact and is only effective against a small number of strains identified, in addition, the long term
effects are unknown and it is not cost effective.
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted infection (STI)...it is the most prevalent STI in
the United States, with strains causally linked to oropharyngeal and other cancers . (Osazuwa Peters
p.1) It is understandable why people want to prevent such a virus. Since the FDA approval of HPV
vaccines, in 2006, there have been many positive unobtrusive ways that states have adopted to prevent
or control HPV, such as public education about the disease, legislation on funding, HPVcervical
cancer screening. However, some states have attempted to mandate children to take the vaccine

Essay The Relationship Between Producers and Audiences
The relationship between producers and audiences
Audience research, producer response to research and audience targeting
A producer when beginning pre production or even before will most likely look at some form of
survey s which would include things like possible cast members for the film and the amount of
audience that would want to see possibly be interested in the genre. They will then take this to the
writers and director of the particular film and they will make amendments to how the survey has come
out. A producer will also look at the success of recent films of the same type; this is visible in recent
times with the resurgence of vampire films following the success of twilight saga this has lead to TV
series and films ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A producer who knows that their film doesn t have a lot of money or publicity would use a film
festival to get both of these things. Also these films will most likely be in art house cinemas but if one
is particularly successful then this could move to multiplex cinemas the troll hunter is one of those
films that has crossed the brigde from art house to multiplex and is now being shown in over 20 vue
cinemas in the UK, the producer did this by getting the film publicity from channel 4 s sister channel
E4 and making a competition for a private screening this made the film sort after which then lead to
interest from multiplex cinemas. But for films that won t need that sort of publicity will have a big
Hollywood premiere that would most likely have a segment on TV showing the premiere and would
include interviews with the cast, director and any other notable person involved with the film.
Celebrities from outside of the film will go also to show the films quality and also so that they
themselves can get publicity, films like this will almost always be shown in multiplex cinemas this is
the same for Cars 2 but will probably have this kind of showing but because it s a childs film the TV
shows and so on will most probably be shown on kids TV most obviously the Disney

A Passage To India Essays
A Passage to India
A Passage to India entails various social criticisms and political matters that are among the human
race. The setting of the story takes place in India where the British have colonized the city of
Chandrapore. The British had no respect for the native culture and race that inhabit this region even
thought they were the original inhabitants.
Miss Quested and Mrs. Moore begin their passage to India in order to attend the marriage of Miss
Quested. Miss Quested plans on being united in marriage with Mrs. Moore s son Ronny Heaslop.
Excitement abounds the two women on their new adventure.
Their first night in India, Ronny Heaslop takes Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested to the Club . This club
is a private club for the British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus began their passage into India.
Not to far along, a party is planned for Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested. A few native Indians are
invited. The party turns out to be a flop. The British and the natives separate themselves from each
other and nobody communicates to one another. Similar to the small dances we use to have as kids.
The girls would sit on one side of the room and the boys on the other and no one with enough courage
to ask the opposite sex to dance.
Shortly after this disastrous party, Dr. Fielding, principal of the College, invites the ladies to his house
for tea. Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested insist Dr. Aziz and Professor Godbole attend. The small
intimate party is successful. Both cultures came together. It brought joy to Dr. Aziz that he was able to
find unity with the British. With the positive results of this first encounter of the two different cultures,
Dr. Aziz believed that only more good things could come of the integration. He invited the entire
group to a trip to the Marabar Caves where he could show the British a bit of his culture. It was the
first step in a long road of multi cultural society. Even today we still see effects of a multi cultural
society. We are a society that continues to forge into tomorrow admiring other cultures and trying to
find commonalties amongst the differences.
We find Dr. Aziz going quite

Inevitable Themes
One of the inevitable themes of war that makes it dreary is death. Explosives are frequently launched
and civilians, including children, are often caught in the way and killed. Infrastructure collapses and
then plagues and illnesses that are usually treatable run rampant often infecting and killing children
due to their undeveloped immune systems being incapable of fending off such bacterial and viral
infections. Death is arguably the most painful part of war yet it in unavoidable and those whose family
it strikes must continue to move if they want to live themselves, creating painful early memories that
impact children later down the road. Another major yet unavoidable aspect of war is money,
specifically inflation and debt. During

  • 2. The Simple Soul In The Phaedo And The Republic Within this essay, I am going to argue that the simple soul is a more plausible conception than the idea of multiplicity within the soul within Plato s work. This is due to the multiplicity of the soul resting on a circular argument of Plato s ideal city which in turn rests back upon his idea of the tripartite soul. However, it can also be argued that neither conceptions of the soul are plausible due to them both relying on Plato s theory of the Forms. Throughout Plato s works of the Phaedo and the Republic, his account for the soul is conflicting as Plato s two accounts cannot be reconciled. I will also refer to Plato s work in the Phaedrus to aid my explanation of the multiplicity within the soul. Simplicity of the soul Plato s theory of the simplicity of the soul is seen in the Phaedo. Through the mouthpiece of Socrates, Plato argues for a simple soul which only has one true aim. He states that the soul only seeks truth and that all other senses and experiences are merely distractions through the soul being embodied the soul reasons best when none of these senses troubles it, neither hearing nor sight, nor pain nor pleasure, but when it is most by itself, taking leave of the body and as far as possible having no contact or association with it in its search for reality. (Plato, 1997, §65c). The simple soul can only aim to grasp the truth of reality which it gets closer to as man becomes closer to death. This is why, in Plato s opinion, a philosopher in particular can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to (Homa Sheikh Sajadieh, 2013) Waste elimination is one of the most effective ways to increase the profitability of any business. Processes either add value or waste to the production of a good or service. The seven wastes originated in Japan, where waste is known as muda . The seven wastes is a tool to further categorize muda and was originally developed by Toyota s Chief Engineer Taiichi Ohno as the core of the Toyota Production System, also known as Lean Manufacturing. To eliminate waste, it is important to understand exactly what waste is and where it exists. While products significantly differ between factories, the typical wastes found in manufacturing environments are quite similar. For each waste, there is a strategy to reduce or eliminate its effect on a company, thereby improving overall performance and quality . The seven types of waste are: 1. Waste from overproduction. 2. Waste from waiting times. 3. Waste from transportation and handling. 4. Waste related to useless and excess inventories. 5. Waste in the production process. 6. Useless motions. 7. Waste from scrap and defects. According to (Okpala, 2014) In Lean Production System, waste (which is referred to as muda in Japan) is described as anything that destroys resources and does not add any value to the customer s requirements. This is because manufacturing waste is the application of resources like raw materials, labor, equipment, or machines over and above what is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Handmaids Tale Comparison Kazuo Ishiguro in Never Let Me Go and Mike Barker in The Handmaid s Tale similarly develop plots in which they explore the accomplishment of authority from the expulsion of human connections. Each author utilises setting, metaphor and symbolism to heighten how the impact of isolation, breakdown of family structure and removal of identification prevents connections. Thus demonstrating that without human networks authority can achieve ultimate supremacy. Ishiguro and Barker utilise physical settings to restrict the respective isolated minorities from any connection with people from the outside world . Barker eradicates the handmaid s names and instead they must take the name of their Commander. June s name Offred demonstrates that she is the property of her Commander, and thus the institutionalised regimes forbid any individuality amongst the handmaids. Likewise, Ishiguro does not provide the clones with a last name, symbolising that their ability to distinguish each other is non existence and thus their identity is unknown. Consequently, the clones become desperate to find their possible , the people with whom they share genes, representing their yearning for acceptance and belonging within the community. Flashbacks are displayed in The Handmaids Tale through altered light exposure and diegetic sounds which are often unheard in the Republic of Gilead to provoke unsettlement within the audiences, due to the similarities with present society. These scenes depict June with her family and have her consecutively centre frame with a levelled shot alluding to her control. However, in Gilead June, along with the other handmaids are often placed in the frames corners viewed through high angles. Barker demonstrates that with the breakdown of family structure, individuals become powerless and marginalised. Similarly, Ishiguro shows how dystopian elements in his ... • 5. American Jazz Artist Miles Davis Essay Kind of Blue. This studio album released by American jazz artist Miles Davis is heavily regarded as the quintessential and definitive jazz album. Many critics regard it as jazz s greatest record and one of the best albums of all time. Along with redefining and revolutionizing jazz, its influence on music has been unprecedented. The music theory, style, and organization of Kind of Blue has been one of the biggest influences on several genres since its creation; including but not limited to rock, funk, fusion, indie, and hip hop. The culture of jazz is extremely unique in music, and Davis s album changed that culture and changed the culture of several different genres and music itself. To truly understand the massive legacy and influence created by Kind of Blue, one would have go back to the beginning of jazz all the way to modern music. Jazz might just be the most unique genre of music in the world. Pairing true artistry and creativity with immense technicality and skill creates music that is simply incomparable. Originating from the African American communities of New Orleans in the 1910 s, jazz was a fresh new creation heavily predominated by African Americans. Early forms featured brass bands playing a ragtime and swing style of music, with improvisation, and unique and syncopated rhythm and blues. Within music, syncopated means offbeat rhythm. While not popular at first, this early form of jazz started becoming well liked and by the 1920 s many artists were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Access Controls And Access Control This chapter is basically based on access control in regards to computer information security. Access control is seen as the fundamental mechanism put in place to help make information security successful. Access control feature, in a particular system, will control how users can communicate, access and modify system resources and programs. Access control was described in this chapter as a very useful tool for the computer information security because it helps with ensuring that unauthorized person or program have no access to what they are not supposed to. Access control is regarded as the first line of defense to control, protect and monitor organization s resource s availability, confidentiality and integrity. Furthermore, this chapter illustrates how users can be granted access to network resources. It explained that for a user to be allowed access to a network he must satisfy the condition of identification and authentication. The identification part could be something of user ID, name or account number. The identification key is not enough to grant access, but it s simply a way of introducing yourself by saying who you are. Then, at that point the system will request for you to authenticate yourself (confirm who you said you are) by requesting for an authentication key. The authentication key could be password, passphrase, personal identification number (PIN), or a token. • 7. Literature V And Catullus Literature from different time periods and different parts of the world has served as a mode of influencing people and sparking reform. However, sometimes pieces of literature have unknowingly influenced other modern day aspects. These similar connections may be found in other present day literary works, or films, songs, events, and just about anything. For instance, the ancient poem, Carmen 8 written by Roman poet, Catullus greatly influenced the modern day song, I Fall Apart performed by Post Malone through similar uses of egocentric tone, masculine stereotypes, battling internal conflicts, the theme of rejection, and a sense of a deranged mind. To being with, the ancestor work, Carmen 8 written by Catullus in a few words is a pep talk to himself, after an illicitly amorous affair between Catullus and a woman by the pseudo name of Lesbia suddenly ends. The poem opens with Catullus chiding himself for being too gullible and not noticing the obvious end to the affair. He describes the end as a cease of light in the lines, once there were sunlit days when you followed after where ever a girl would go... Those were the bright days gone; now she s no longer yielding, (Gregory, L. 3 8). After Catullus reminisces over his love for Lesbia, he again rebukes himself for being emasculate by weeping over a woman. Furthermore, Catullus slanders Lesbia and sneeringly rhetorically asks her what man will compliment her, claim her, and kiss her, if it is not him anymore. Catullus ends the poem reassuring himself to be firm as rock as, (Gregory, L. 17). Similar to Carmen 8, the descendant work, I Fall Apart performed by Post Malone is a reflection of a breakup. The song starts with a quick summary of the breakup, which was the girl not thinking Post Malone was sufficient for her, thus she left him suddenly and heartbroken. Post Malone goes on to reiterate the feeling of his heart breaking, and also stating that he had never loved with greater immensity in the lines, never caught a feelin this hard, harder than the liquor I pour, (Malone, L. 17 18). Moreover, Post Malone insults the girl, after he states he cannot move on from her even after everyone else but him had seen the end coming. Towards the end of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper analyzes whether it is possible to measure if markets are efficient in the strong form of EMH. Sometimes the advisers choices have even been compared to a group of stocks chosen by throwing darts at a copy of the financial page of the newspaper tacked to a dartboard. The Wall Street Journal, for example, used to have a regular feature called Investment Dartboard that compared how well stocks picked by investment advisers did relative to stocks picked by throwing darts. Did the advisers win? To their embarrassment, the dartboard beat them as often as they beat the dartboard. Furthermore, even when the comparison included only advisers who had been successful in the past in predicting the stock market, the advisers still didn t regularly beat the dartboard. Consistent with the efficient market hypothesis, mutual funds also do not beat the market. Not only do mutual funds not outperform the market on average, but when they are separated into groups according to whether they had the highest or lowest profits in a chosen period, the ... • 10. Chuang Tzu s Basic Writings Essay Chuang Tzu s Basic Writings, with his idea of the way which is effortless and ineffable, seem to suggest a minimalist take on government. The Daoist philosophy present in the text has no room for organized hierarchy or unified morality in the understanding of the world. This leaves no room for government whose laws and bureaucracy are based on codified morality and hierarchy. The government must also allow its citizens to practice the wu wei, which means the government would have to allow individual freedom. Thus the only suitable form of government following the way would be a limited structure emphasizing individual morality essentially a libertarian form of government. There is a lack of hierarchy in Chuang Tzu s Daoism due to the belief in the indistinguishable position of the individual to the rest of humanity and humanity to all the world. This is evident in The Dream and The Butterfly in which Chuang Tzu shows that the perspective of a human is no truer than the perspective of a butterfly. In the fable, Chuang Tzu s questioning of which organism is the reality and which is the dream blurs the distinction between humanity and nature. This is consistent with Chuang Tzu s belief that humanity is one with nature, meaning that human government should reflect the form of hierarchy present in the natural world. Such a belief in the most natural sense of hierarchy would at first suggest that the way is a path of egalitarianism; however, this belief that, in nature, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Summary Of The Veldt By Ray Bradbury Bradbury s Words to You Desmond Tutu, a South African leader once said, You do not choose your family. They are God s gift to you, as you are to them. In the short story The Veldt , Ray Bradbury conveys the idea that no material object that has ever been crafted, is more valuable than your family because your family provides you with vital growth. He does this by telling the tragic tale of parents Lydia and George who are killed by their spoiled and technology obsessed children, Wendy and Peter. Through foreshadow, symbolism and imagery, Bradbury believes that kids need to respect their parents, otherwise there will be grave consequences. Bradbury uses the term The Happy House in an ironic manner to foreshadow the very unhappy demise of the Hadley family. The Hadley s home consists of an abundance of high technological machines to do all the work around the house for them, called the Happylife Home . The description of the house provides the reader with an understanding that the family is very lazy for having machines doing all the work for them as they are described as ... the house that bathed and fed them and was good to them . However, despite the comforts this home brings, the Hadley parents become more and more worried with the machines throughout the story. The beginning of the story foreshadows this: George, I wish you d look at the nursery. What s wrong with it? I don t know. I just want you to look at it, is all, or call a psychologist in to look at it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Lone Wolf Terrorism Before the delegation enters the subject of Lone Wolf terrorism, the delegation believes the definition of terrorism must be addressed first, in order to distinguish the differences. The definition of the European Union (2013) characterizes terrorism as an premeditated act with the aim of seriously intimidating a population, or unduly compelling a government or international organization to perform or abstain from performing any act, or seriously destabilizing or destroying the fundamental political, constitutional, economic or social structures of a country or an international organization (European Union, 2002, p. 4). He described how one day when he was a little boy he sighed and turned his back on his mother when she was asking his to do something and he was spanked by his father for the first and only time in his life. This means teaching them how to behave respectfully to others, not just you. If you re not a single parent home or if you have help from others it is especially important for you guys to be on the same page on how to teach what you need to and how discipline works into the situation because if not, more than likely the first thing the child or children will do is try to pin you guys against each other (I say this because that is what me and my siblings tried to do...it only worked once). It s good to catch disrespectful behavior early if possible. If your child is rude or disrespectful, it s not good to turn a blind eye. Giving consequences when children are younger will pay off in the long run. It may sound old fashioned, but I find that it s very important to teach your child basic manners like saying please , may I and thank you. If you think about it, when your child deals with their teachers, others outside the household or even gets their first job these common manners will really go a long way and using manners is also a form of empathy. In this essay, I will look at his views on nonviolent protest and how they differ from todays violent protests. To understand King s views on nonviolent protest, I will start by summarizing some of the main points in his Letter from Birmingham jail . In spite of the fact that the Letter is verifiably worried with justice all through, King likewise addresses the question specifically at a few focuses. In actuality, he places that justice maintains the poise of the human soul, while injustice conflicts with it. By talking about this idea by and large, he builds up criteria by which to obscurely assault both segregation and silence it. He at last suggests that the man who sees injustice and does nothing to stop it is acting unjustly also. Taking after this thought, he contends that laws must be permeated with an ethical sense so as to be just; as such, law and morality can not be viewed as independent interests or areas. The best way to really enact change and help humankind rise above its confinements is to act with as well as grasp extremism . • 30. Melting Pot Myths Final Essay The myths of this chapter were all interesting, but two of them were especially noteworthy. The Myth of the Melting Pot and of the Myths of Freedom were the most significant and far reaching myths of the book. These are myths that every American has engrained in their minds. Ever since birth Americans are told that they live in a free country with a diverse cultured society. But these myths are misleading. The myth of the Melting Pot and of Freedom in accord with the other myths mentioned in this book deceivingly make the United States appear to be more equal than it actually is. The country lacks the freedoms that were originally promised during its formation and also specific freedoms that would have been reasonable to establish during this day and age. First of all, the country lacks one of the rights promised in the First Amendment, which is the freedom of press. In The Decline of American Press Freedom , Anne Applebaum explains many instances where freedom of press was restricted. One of these restrictions was in Yale where the University Press was not allowed to publish their book due to the controversial topic it was discussing. The book talked about the events following the publication of comical depictions of the Prophet Muhammad in a 2005 Danish newspaper. The university said that the publication was too much of a safety threat and should not be published. (638 646) In this case, safety was valued more than a promised liberty. Next are the liberties that were never established but should be. Lori Andrews, in her piece George Orwell... • 31. Science And Its Effect On Society Essay Science is the process which discovers knowledge, knowledge in turn is power, and power is said to bring about corruption. Therefore, through the transitive property, that implies that science will only lead to corruption. Not necessarily a corruption of one s actions; for instance, science won t make a politician accept a bribe. However, some would argue that science will lead to a degradation of morals. For example, contemporary science may lead to a woman viewing her unborn baby as naught but a ball of cells, similar to a tumor, which can be removed from her body with no moral dilemma. The converse to this is the impediment of science due to humanity clinging to its archaic values. This can be shown by the opposition to stem cell research and genetically modified embryos in the name of morals and the inviolability of life. The stark contrast between following morals and advancing science creates a juxtaposition that often manifests itself as a debate between religion and science. Certain members of both the scientific and religious communities blindly adhere to their own opinions and ideals. This butting of heads helps no one. As a result, a middle road must be found, one in which neither progress nor morality are ignored. The polarity between these two forces is encapsulated by the differences that Bertolt Brecht draws in his play Galileo between Galileo and the clergymen. This play, when contrasted with the reality of Galileo s studies, provides a vehicle to discuss the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During my observation, I noticed that the board members were not very responsive. At first, the environment was very uncomfortable and the meeting felt very unorganized. As the meeting continued and others took over, the meeting became friendlier and more welcoming. When the public was speaking on behalf of the music program at the school, the board members were not allowed to respond to what was being addressed. Indentured servants slowly became life long servants, having no chance of release at a certain age. By 1660, laws were being enacted that defined the regulated slave relations. • 37. Mexicans And Mexican American Youth Throughout our history as a nation, we have earned a reputation of undermining the relationships we have had with minorities and of largely neglecting their needs. Our almost hostile nature towards minorities in the United States can largely be seen in the treatment of Mexicans and Mexican American citizens in the times surrounding World War Two. Such hostilities are reflected in our treatment of Mexican Americans in the late 19th after the Civil War and early 20th centuries, the Sleepy Lagoon murder responses, and the Zoot Suit riots. My primary source reveals a feeling of inferiority in the United States by the Mexican American youth due discrimination that they faced, which can be better understood by analyzing the cultural contexts. As railroads expanded during the United States western expansionist period in the late 19th century, Mexican immigration along with Eastern migration grew in the west. Once the Mexican immigrants arrived, they largely occupied commercial agriculture in large farms, mining industries, and the construction of railroads, but were generally paid very little. During this time, as Arizona State History Professor Manuel P. Servín explained, the Mexican Americans that had been here for years had already begun to feel despised by the Western Expansionists, and were looked at as less American and an unassimilable foreigner. The lower class Mexican immigrants and citizens largely assimilated on rail road cities, or Sonora towns, such as Los Angeles, El ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So the question are: Is this the price to pay for the development of technology in our society? Are we ready to reduce our private sphere in the name of the modernity and the globalization? • 39. A Study on the Urinary System and Preeclampsia The Urinary System and Pre eclampsia: The Urinary system comprises of tubes, organs, nerves, and muscles that work together to develop, store, and transport urine. The system is basically made up of two ureters, two kidneys, the urethra, two sphincter muscles, and the bladder. This system in the human body is primarily concerned with the filtering of extra fluid and substances from the bloodstream in the form of urine. While urine is used to extract extra blood corpuscles, vitamins, or mineral from the human body, it s a liquid created by the kidneys, gathered in the bladder, and filtered through the urethra. Notably, the urinary system is an important part of the human body since it works with other systems to assist in maintenance of homeostasis. Normal Physiology of the Urinary System: The basic function of the urinary system is to remove the urea waste from the body, which is produced following the breaking down of foods containing protein and some vegetables. The urea is transported in the bloodstreams to the kidneys, which are bean shaped organs. These kidneys in turn extract the urea from the blood through nephrons i.e. tiny filtering units that consist of small blood capillaries and a small tube. In addition to other waste substances and water, urea forms the urine as it passes through the tiny filtering units and down the small tube ( The Urinary System , n.d.). This is followed by the travelling of the urine down the two thin tubes known as ureters to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Foucault and Nietzsche on Knowledge The concept of power should be considered with greater attention because it shows a path to which Foucault adheres, to an extent, but not to the discharge of other pathways that contradict it. In fact, productive power comes from Foucault s idea that contradictory vision disables power against a self governing subject and does not understand the connection of power and its subject. What is more important, is that Foucault makes a rational connection between knowledge and power, stating that power relations are predicated on knowledge, but the latter does not imply power relations. Nonetheless, the denial of independent knowledge is associated with the independent individuality, which means that power and knowledge are combined to deliver a form of subjectivity. A psychological identity relates to a persons self image and needs to be revealed by delivering an idea that defines modern outlooks on individual. The human sciences develop different aspects of individuality and identity and, therefore, they are based on the assumption that science is a reflection of power relations leading to knowledge expansion. According to John McGowan, in The Problem of Freedom in Postmodern Theory, knowledge, power, and the subject are shown to be intimately related to one another within a single productive process (p. 129). In this instance, it could be stated that power is considered to be the major source of knowledge and subject. The connection between knowledge and power creates the ... At the end of our conversation, she mentions that at least she has a choice and turned to me, saying you may not have a choice when your kids are that age. I was stunned and she goes on to tell me how the government is trying very hard to make this particular vaccination mandatory. Upon further research, I have discovered that this particular vaccine should not be amongst the mandatory vaccines, because unlike the others this particular disease is not transmitted through the air rather it is through sexual contact and is only effective against a small number of strains identified, in addition, the long term effects are unknown and it is not cost effective.
