Persuasive Essay On The Mountain Goat
I have been in existence for many, many years. I predate the oldest man alive, for as long as any living
being can remember my ridged body has stood tall, for longer than even I can recall. I have many
children but none are better fit for my near vertical landscape than my favorite creature, the mountain
goat. He s stable strong and sturdy, built for the mountain, virtually a king when to my steep surface,
while the goat doesn t have sharp claws or strong jaws meant to defend themselves from becoming
prey, but they do have strategy. Strategy that is a must have for this species to survive and thrive,
strategy that without, the antagonist of this story would almost certainly devour our horned friend.
That being said we must not interfere, you as a human and I as a mountain, humans often bring
emotion into nature, believing predator and prey could get along or come to an understanding, the
childish ranting of a delusionist who took Disney films far too serious. The only understanding these
two have is that one will try to eat and the other survive, now let us watch through the eyes of the
hooved and clawed. My hoofs are sore, I ve been climbing all day as I do most days and I m
exhausted. I m not sure if I should stop here though, it s not very far up the mountain, a predator could
be around waiting for the moment I let my guard down but can I keep going? No ill find a corner to
take a quick nap to regain a little energy, as I lay down everything slowly becomes dark, will I

Seed Germination Lab Report
Introduction:
As the weather gets warmer, and with spring being just around the corner, many gardeners and farmers
are getting prepared to gather materials that they will use to grow their plants this year. One of these
materials could be the usage of a synthetic fertilizer, like Miracle Gro, to speed up the growth rate of
the plant. As these types of fertilizers become more popular, anyone who may be new to the field of
agricultural growth may question on whether or not synthetic fertilizers, like Miracle Gro, actually
help in speeding up a seed s growth rate. This lab will help to determine an answer by looking at types
of seeds and how they react with and without Miracle Gro. The two types of seeds that will be used in
this experiment are known as monocot and dicot. Monocots and dicots mainly differ in their structural
make and their germination process. Monocots, only give sprout ... Show more content on

Over the 7 day period, the graph effectively shows that the barley treated by the Miracle Gro
germinated at a much higher rate than the water only treatment. Having a ratio of 1:2, 1:3, and 1:2
with its respective days, it displays how effective the fertilizer was in germinating the seed. The
average shoot length between the two treatments are similar in results to the percent of seeds
germinated. The seeds treated by the Miracle Gro resulted in a higher shoot and root average. The
ratios, when the two treatments are put side by side, display similar ratios as well, showing a 1:2 ratio.
Overall it can be stated however that even though there were many seeds, from both treatments, that
germinated, the Miracle Gro treatment showed a more affluent result as the treatment actually grew
significantly compared to the water treatment.

Liberalism and Its Key Values
In the study of Liberalism and its key values, those of Democracy and Social Justice have often been
posited as providing the world with an ideology and political philosophy which can guarantee peace
between its adherents. The Democratic Peace has been formulated in order to illustrate a world in
which democratic states do not engage in war between each oth er as fellow democrats live with a
stable and historically unique form of government. This essay shall explore whether it is acceptable
that one can portray liberal democracy in par ticular as universally applicable in a standard form. This
is a central tenet of the democratic peace theory and as such requires questioning to determine whether
or not liberalism is indeed a force peace in world politics. Furthermore, it shall look at many pieces of
postcolonial International Relations (IR) theory, engage with democratic peace theory directly, as well
as some contemporary examples of liberal actions in order to assess the peaceful state, thus far, of
liberalism. It is my argument that although the democratic peace theory does portray the best
intentions of those Liberal States who actively engage in world politics, it is not, howev er, accurate in
portraying liberalism as a whole as peaceful. Instead by accepting and discuss ing the peace between
liberal nations, it fails to highlight and in fact sometimes seeks to hide the more aggressive and
warring actions of liberals against those from outside of the para digm.

Cloning Bad
Is cloning bad or good for us? According to NIH website, it states there are three different types of
artificial cloning: gene cloning, reproductive cloning and therapeutic cloning. In our biology textbook
it states that cloning makes an identical copy of a gene. Gene cloning replicates genes and DNA
segments. Reproductive cloning makes a duplication of an animal. Therapeutic cloning makes
embryonic stem cells to help produce tissues to restore damaged or diseased tissues. I believe that
cloning technology can help resolve many things, we would be able to learn and develop more things
that could help the world.
An example of reproductive cloning is Dolly the sheep. She was the first mammal to be cloned from
an adult cell, which is much more difficult to clone from. She lived to be only 6 years old due to
arthritis. They took an udder cell from a six year old Finn Dorset white sheep. They changed the
growth medium to keep the udder cell alive but it stopped them from expanding. According to the
article Cloning Dolly The Sheep ,they injected the cell into an unfertilised egg cell and made the cells
fuse by using electrical pulses. Therefore, they moved the DNA of the donor animal s ... Show more

According to the website Greengarage, it stated the artificial interference is wrong and can lead to a
domino effect, other attributes of life could be altered and have a negative result. This shows that
cloning could have a domino effect in nature, if we change one thing it could change everything; the
results it could be bad. Furthermore it states human DNA can be contaminated, and the chances of
success are very rare. This shows that many things could go wrong during cloning and we don t know
if we would be able to solve the problem. Thus, cloning also has disadvantages like interfering with

Characterisation In Away By GowAway By Gow
With the will to search for new experiences and fresh perceptions of the world we live in, creates the
ability for individuals to overcome confronting challenges and provide gains through the journey of
personal realization, new ideas and acceptance of ourselves and who we truly are. This is represented
through the play Away composed by Gow that addresses the contextual era of 1967 where the after
effects of the great depression and the WW2 was huge and where a high influx of migrants settled
Australia. furthermore, these themes are exploited through William Shakespeare s pastoral romance,
the tempest through the involvement of characters who undergo a fortuitous discovery of self.
Through newfound discoveries and contemporary ways of thinking, beliefs and identity have been
altered and transformed. In Away , Gow s characterisation of tom and Coral exploit deep personal
realisations. For Tom going away on holiday allows for him to make sense of what is happening and
reflect on life, his realisation is not on the issue of dying the realisation is on living, and this
realisation is made through watching people in his lives and how they waste time and he starts to
change his belief that, in fact, it might not be a curse but a privilege as he has meaning in his life and a
purpose to live. Corals self realization is composed through the introduction of new characters she can
communicate with and hear other people s stresses. these aid her in the realisation it is ok for a

Essay about History of the Colorado River
INTRODUCTION According to tree ring scientists from the University of Arizona in Tuscon, the
Colorado River went through a six decade long drought during the mid 1100s. This drought was
longer than any other drought know to the region. The Colorado River is essential to the American
Southwest, draining into about 242,000 square miles of land to include seven U.S. states: Arizona,
California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. The Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change predicted in a recent report that the Southwestern U.S. Will become hotter and drier
as the climate warms. With human caused climate change and run off reduction, it has been predicted
that the Colorado River could become dry by 2012. Discussions in ... Show more content on

Today the color of the river is more of a blue green though, due to the creation of the Glen Canyon
Dam in 1963. The silt and sediments that gave the river its reddish brown color are now trapped
behind the dam at the bottom of Lake Powell. Before the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam, the
Colorado river could carry around 500,000 tons of silt and sediment per day through the Grand
Canyon. The peak flow rate before the dam was normally around 85,000 cfs (abbreviation for cubic
feet per second which is used to measure river flow rates). The peak flow rate after construction was
reduced to 30,000 cfs. The reduction in cfs resulted in a smaller distribution of the iconic red colored
silt and sediment. The main reason for the creation of the Glen Canyon Dam was to stop silt from
building up behind Hoover Dam. The construction of the dam has had a negative impact on the Grand
Canyon environment. The flash floods that at one time scrubbed the canyon clean and deposited fresh
sand along the beaches no longer occurs. The water temperature used to get as warm as 80 degrees F.
It is now icy cold year round and averages around 42 degrees F. Because of this drastic temperature
change, some of the native fish that used to flourish in the river have become extinct while others have
become endangered. The desert is no place to be without water. It is one of man s basic needs for
survival. Deserts receive less than 10 inches of rainfall in a year, and, in some

What Is A Representative Democracy
As stated in The Struggle for Democracy, the U.S. is a representative democracy, also known as a
republic (). In this system of government, unlike a direct democracy in which all citizens vote on all
public matters, elected representatives govern the people. The U.S. system consists of three separate
governing branches, executive, judicial, and legislative, which all hold checks and balances on one
another. These checks and balances were meant to ensure the U.S. would be as democratic as possible
and prohibit one branch from gaining too much power. Throughout America s history, the system has
predominantly been a success. In the world today, the United States is looked upon as a bastion for
democratic principles. The U.S. State Department itself ardently embraces the lofty goals of
promoting democracy around the world, assisting those in foreign lands who wish to establish
democracies, and denouncing regimes that deny citizens their rightful ability to conduct and
participate in free, fair, and transparent elections (). Americans at large also support democracy
enthusiastically. A myriad of citizen ardently proclaim the U.S. s democratic ideals and the freedoms
they allow qualify the U.S. to be the greatest country in the world. While parts of this is true the U.S.
is indeed a global advocate of spreading democracy and Americans enjoy many freedoms not privy to
citizens living under repressive regimes such as Saudi Arabia or Pakistan the American political
system as a whole

Morrison, through Sorrow s experience, portrays how motherhood can be salvation for those trying to
assimilate into the codified characteristics of the feminine gender. Morrison describes Sorrow with
unfavorable imagery marked by a history of misery. Sorrow grew up on a ship, and was the only one
that survived the shipwreck. She was later found by the Sawyer and his wife. The wife tried to make
Sorrow mind the geese (Morrison 140), but this resulted in more trouble than assistance; therefore, the
wife put her to simple cleaning tasks (Morrison 141), which was still was to no avail. Sorrow s
inability to complete these traditionally feminine tasks conveys that she grew up around very few, if

Teiresias, The Blind Seer In The Play Oedipus Rex
Teiresias, the blind seer, plays an important role in the play Oedipus Rex . He is kind, wise, a man of
truth, and easily angered. He reveals the major conflict in the play, and important aspects about
Oedipus s personality. In the play, the new king Oedipus attempts to find the murderer of the previous
king, Laius to rid his kingdom of a curse and help his people. He consults, Teiresias, the blind prophet,
who hesitantly tries to avoid giving Oedipus an answer. After Oedipus accuses the old man of being
the murderer, Teiresias angrily informs him that Oedipus himself murdered Laius. In disbelief,
Oedipus asks Teiresias to repeat himself. When Teiresias does, Oedipus threatens to punish him. The
enraged seer then adds that Oedipus commited vile acts with the people close to him, referring to how
Oedipus unknowingly married and had children with his biological mother. Oedipus, still doubting
Teiresias s words, blames his brother in law and uncle, Creon for plotting against him. Teiresias tells
Oedipus that Oedipus is blind to the situation and Creon didn t plot against him. Oedipus angrily tells
Teiresias to leave. As Teiresias turns away he tells him that he will soon realize what has happened,
insults Oedipus by questioning his ability to solve puzzles, and tells him that he does not fear Oedipus
punishing him for the things that he told him. Everything the blind prophet told the king turns out to
be true in the later scenes of the play. (Sophocles, 1.2) The text describes

For Money or Love
Women of the 1800 s where very limited to what they could do in life; especially the women of the
upper and middle class. They where expected to do nothing more than marry and to marry well. If
they could not do this the life that they faced was very grim. It would be a life of spinsterhood and
being care for by other family members or working as a governess for some upper class family.
Jane Austen in her book Pride and Prejudice shows the reader the important of marrying and hopefully

The projected EBITDA for BT Yellow Pages in the U.K. and Yellow Pages USA combined should be
more than enough to cover the proposed interest expense. This is an important factor in determining
the possibility of an LBO.
There is a good possibility for an exit strategy as business lines should be relatively easy to divest
should the need arise, given that financial buyers are interested in business lines.
All in all Yell Group has a well established position in a growing market generating stable revenue
streams that are reasonably recession proof, a well established market position, good possibility for an
exit, fulfilling at least two requirements for a good LBO candidate.

What is a Volunteer Fire Department? A Volunteer Fire Department is composed of volunteers who
will perform fire suppression or other related emergency services for a local jurisdiction. People
should volunteer because people can save lives and they can save the houses from completely burning

people to operate the pumps and going into a burning building to save a elderly s life or even a dog s

Rhetorical Analysis On Gender Bias
Questions for Rhetorical Analysis
1. What historical occasion gives rise to the need for investigation and the creation of this text?
Gender Bias is being taught and occurs unintentionally in our schools. Teachers challenge boys more
than girls. Sexism is so elusive, it is being taught every day and educators are not even aware they are
doing it.
2. Does the author come across as knowledgeable? fair? Does the speaker s reputation convey a
certain authority?

9. What is the structure of the article; how is it arranged? What effect does the structure of the article
have, and does this aid or hinder the author s intention?
The structure of the article would be Cause and Effect, the article points out serious issues and blames
gender bias. The writer explains how being gender bias affects girls, especially in education. The
writer could have went more into the cause and effect gender bias has on boys. Teachers might have
reason to specifically pay more attention to boys, maybe to keep them engaged. The teacher might
know the girls are fine when she turns her back. The rotten boy in the back might whip a spitball at
her if she turns her back on the boys, and she knows it. (This was only added for humor)
A teacher with gender bias might unintentionally effect how a class participates, if girls are never
called during a discussion, they will probably quit raising their hands.

University Tuition Costs are Too High Essay
The cost of tuition for higher education is quickly rising. Over half of college freshmen show some
concern with how to pay for college. This is the highest this number has been since 1971 (Marill and
O Leary 64 66, 93). The amount of college graduate debt has been rapidly increasing also. With
limited jobs available because of the high unemployment rate, college graduates find themselves
staying in debt even longer. Although grants and financial aid are available to students, students still
struggle to pay for their college tuition. Higher education costs are prohibitively expensive because the
state s revenue is low, the unemployment rate is high, and graduates cannot pay off their student loans.
One reason that higher education ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now most receive less than 50 percent (Hulsey 24). Some schools, such as the University of
Michigan, receive less than seven percent (Hulsey 24). These numbers hit some schools extremely
hard. According to Hulsey in his article about the cost of education:
State contributions to the 2009 10 operating budget declined by $189 million at UCLA, $109 million
at University of Florida, $99 million at University of Washington, and $63 million at Louisiana State
University (LSU), according to a Nov.1, 2009, New York Times article by Paul Fain. The percentage
decline was equally significant, ranging from 33 percent at UCLA to 27 percent at LSU. (24)
As a result of this, states receive pressure to make up for this and must raise tuition. Grant donors are
also becoming less generous in their contributions to students as well. This makes affording college
even harder for students. Not only do the states low revenues cause affordability problems, but high
unemployment rates contribute as well. As of December 2009, the nation s unemployment rate was at
ten percent (Boskin 22 27). The unemployment rate for people ages twenty to twenty four is fifteen
percent (Dickler). These numbers are still significantly high. This makes finding jobs extremely
difficult for college students. Since the nation s overall unemployment rate is high, students find
themselves competing with everyone for jobs. This becomes very difficult for them. Without jobs,

Difference Between Forensic Anthropology And Forensic...
There are many different forms of forensic studies. Two of these forms are forensic anthropology and
forensic pathology. Though there are similarities in these two fields, there are also many differences.
When choosing whether to have a career in Forensic Anthropology or Forensic Pathology, one must
first know the differences in salary, the focus of study, the different education and certifications
needed for each career, diverse abilities needed, personality types, as well as the distinctive software
used in each field. To begin, although there are many different career options for both Forensic
Anthropology and Forensic Pathology, the difference in salary can influence which career path some
desire to work in. For example, the average yearly salary for a forensic anthropologist was around
fifty four thousand dollars (A., n.d.), while the average annual salary for a forensic pathologist was
just over one hundred and ninety thousand dollars (Franklin, B. (Ed.). (n.d.)). With this gap in annual
salary, an individual could face the dilemma of choosing between what they want to do, or the amount
of money they want to make. Though this is a large difference, some individuals may decide that the
salary does not matter opposed to following one s dreams. In any case, the person will find a specific
area of study to focus on. Though there are many similarities in these two careers, their fields of study
are very different. The main difference is the career description. Forensic

Schuurvy Research Paper
Scurvy is a nutritional disease that stems from a lack of Vitamin C. I chose this as my topic because I
have always been interested in history and how historically on ships it was difficult to have fresh fruit
aboard because they would spoil on long trips and instead they would have meats and foods that could
be preserved with heavy amounts of salt. Scurvy was first documented as a disease by Hippocrates
and was discovered by ancient Egyptians in 1550 but people would often forget eating Vitamin C is an
effective cure for the disease. In the 13th century people often suffered from Scurvy. Eventually the
explorers wizened up to this and the Portuguese planted fruit trees and vegetables that they could
harvest on their way home from journeys

Essay Against Lowering The Drinking Age
Once a person turns eighteen, he or she receives many rights and privileges. One major right that all of
these teenagers are missing is the right to buy and consume alcohol. The question is posed is whether
lowering the minimum drinking age to eighteen would be a better or worse idea. Jeffery A. Miron, a
senior lecturer at Harvard University s economics department, and Elina Tetelbaum, a law student
from Yale University, write in their argumentative article in Forbes Magazine, The Dangers of the
Drinking Age , in which they believe that the minimum drinking age of twenty one is not working.
After conducting studies, they found that the minimum legal drinking age of twenty one has little or
no effect on traffic fatalities. Lowering the minimum drinking age to eighteen would likely have the
same effects as the minimum age of twenty one; it is reasonable to assume that underage teenagers
may feel less rebellious knowing that they can legally buy and consume alcohol at the age of eighteen.
Amethyst Initiative was a petition that called for a public debate about the effects of a minimum
drinking age of twenty one that was signed by over one hundred presidents of colleges and
universities. The response to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

benefits, the minimum legal drinking age supports irresponsible side effects such as binge drinking

Research On Information Metering And Measurement
Information Metering and Measurement
Study in information metering and measurement can be classified into smart metering, and smart
monitoring and measurement. In the following, this classification in point.
a)Smart Metering: Smart metering is the mainly important mechanism used in the Smart Grid for
obtaining information from end users devices and appliances, while also controlling the performance
of the devices. Automatic metering infrastructure (AMI) systems, which are themselves built upon
automatic meter reading (AMR) systems, are broadly regarded as a sound strategy to realize Smart
Grid. AMR is the technology of routinely collecting analytical, expenditure, and status data from
energy metering devices and transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting,
and analyzing. AMI differs from traditional AMR in that it enables two way communications with the
meter. So almost all of this information is available in real time and on demand, allowing for better
system operations and customer power demand organization.
b) Smart meters, which carry two way communications amid the meter and the central system, are like
in many aspects to
AMI meters, or occasionally are regarded as part of the AMI.
A smart meter is typically an electrical meter that records use in intervals of an hour or less and sends
that information at least every day back to the utility for monitoring and billing purposes. Also, a
smart meter has the capability to

How Important Is Having A Clear Process
How important is having a clear process in regards to informing a design outcome?
Setting up progressive goals and rules helps a designer in making everything more clearly and
efficiently, so as to achieve the anticipated and satisfactory design outcome. What designers need to do
is to first provide a rudimentary design map, covering different small processes, explaining what are
their specific operations as well as their importance in contributing to the final outcome. Secondly,
designers need to follow these preset processes, assuring each step is correctly followed. But on top of
that, they could definitely add in some spontaneous and creative personal ideas during the
implementation of the plan, which will hopefully make the project more like their own s, other than a
robotic, emotionless work.
In the first place, having a clear process enables designers to understand the concepts in greater depth.
This could later facilitate and guide the development and implementation of design projects. To
comprehend the topics, designers need to define the meanings of the topics, outline related fields and
think about the project purposes.
Our group was assigned to the topic boundaries (Bruce studio), which required us to determine and
understand the criteria in deciding whether an area is bound or unbound . To start with, we viewed
boundary as the line between the space we live inside and outside. We developed a model and used

Out of the silent planet
Out of the silent planet by C.S Lewis is a novel that denotes the difference between the social system
on planet earth and the planet Malacandra. In Malacandra, groups live in harmony with one another
and complement each other. On earth, the social system is brutal and evil. The novel is a science
fiction that covers Dr. Ransoms (major character) adventures and encounters on a planet that is
entirely different from earth. Ransoms lands into this planet by accident after being kidnapped by two
evil men (Devine and Weston) and transported to the planet Malacandra (Mars) by spacecraft. In

This is different to what happens on earth where groups are in constant dominance wars, often
breaking into factions that regard each other as inherently inferior. The kidnappers, Devine and
Weston represent this dominance character of Earthly beings.
On earth, people are self centered and do not care for each other. In contrast, On Malacandra, various
species live and work together (Gibbons 88). There three intelligent species in Malacandra and their
differences of knowledge is their strength. The pfifltriggi excavate and makes things out of their
excavation, the Seroni are the master of knowledge and the hrossa were poets (Lewis, 68). Even with
these different talents, there is no group that wants to dominate the other. They know that they have
differences but have accepted them since they can talk to each other, they can cooperate, and they
have the same ethics (Lewis 156).
The leadership system on earth is also different from the other planets. Unlike the earth, all the other
planets have a structured leadership; they have a ruler (Oyarsa). The earth is unruly because people
have no common Oyarsa and this makes people bent. Everyone on earth wants to be a little Oyarsa
himself (Lewis 102). The Oyarsa of Malacandra, in reference to the actions of Devine and Weston of

Dna Testing And The Process Of Solving Crimes
DNA Testing
Today DNA is used for the process of solving crimes, and it all started in England. In the early 1980 s
in the English countryside the police were trying their hardest to find the man who was raping and
murdering young teenage girls. The police had used all their resources and the investigation had
reached a devastating end until they relied on one scientist who had invented what is now used with
almost every crime today.
On the evening of November 21, 1983, Lynda Mann was walking to visit a friend who lived in the
same town as her, Narborough. As she was walking along Forest Road, which was near Blackpad
Footpath, Colin Pitchfork was driving around trying to calm his young child that he was in charge for
the night. Pitchfork noticed that Mann was walking alone, parked his car and left his now sleeping
baby in the car, and chased after Mann. When Pitchfork approached Mann he exposed himself and as
she started running he grabbed her and raped her. Scared that she would notice him he strangled her
with her own scarf. Mann s body was found the next day on the grounds of Carlton Hayes Hospital
near Blackpad Footpath, where Pitchfork was ordered mandatory counseling classes after exposing
himself to a young girl before he was married. Pitchfork was questioned after the murder and had no
alibi, but the cops overlooked him saying that he was taking care of his young son and could not have
been in two places at once. Blood samples were taken from Mann s body, but

course I have learned about different social problems in societies worldwide. Some of these include
poverty, social inequality, discrimination of race and culture, urbanization, and more. After learning all
these subjects and more, I have decided to do my final on social inequality and minorities in the
United States. I chose this particular topic because I have seen this in almost every place have lived. I

inequality is and know how it is used in our everyday society. I want to explore this topic and show

They have had to deal with numerous inequalities throughout time. After slavery they were not given
equal rights. There were many rights rallies and according to the statistics, they are still not receiving
equal pay. There used to be restaurants that would not serve a person of color and they were even told
they could only sit in the back of buses. Though we have overcome most of this we have not
overcome hate crimes. Every group has encountered unequal or cruel treatment based on nothing more
than a characteristic about them. Though the hate crime rate had dropped in 2007 there was a rise of
anti gay crime. Now with the new election the hate crime rate has risen again. This shows the problem
is not diminishing and that we need to find a way to get this under control. Criminal justice is another
area of social inequality for minorities in the U.S. Getting a fair trial is difficult is one is accused of a
crime that is a stereotype. If a minority is accused of rape, murder, theft, assault, or many other crimes,
it may be hard to get a fair trial if the jury basis the evidence against stereotypes. Another aspect to
this is that minorities are not given as many options as others. If they are in lower income areas, have
less education or just less options general their chances of living a life of crime is high. Our human

Foreclosure is one of the hardest things that a person can be introduced to. It can make a person or

just continued to not only motivate myself, but my mother because I understand getting something

to my family and I, and what we did to overcome it. April 1, 2007 we got the phone call stating we

foreclosure on the home would mean a immediate termination of our contract. The owner of the home

noticed that we were not the first person he had approached with the same offer but also who lost all

Jonathan Romney s Access All Areas
In the article, Access All Areas: The Real Space of Rock Documentary by Jonathan Romney, he
mainly focuses on the idea of backstage or behind the current and how it comes into play in rock
documentaries. He argues his points that the backstage of a concert is not a sacred place for celebrities
on and off the screen of a rock documentary, backstage is not a real home, and rock documentaries are
full of unauthentic and cliché scenes. The documentaries show the star on stage captivating the crowd
with their show and onstage antics then show a shot of them coming off stage and the viewers can
supposedly watch the mask lift off and the star s true self is revealed. Romney makes a reference to

Romney emphasizes the documentaries try to convey that the star s offstage self is their purest
achievement because producing music, making videos, and playing shows is not enough to satisfy the
fans. The star is seen as more than a performer, they are seen as an icon or a force that manifests itself
and when the star is on stage performing and not their authentic self, it leaves the viewers confused
with the different personalities. Romney mentions David Bowie and Madonna to be two of the most
transparent celebrities but when they started acting, the several personalities overshadowed their true
selves. Backstage is not an artist s space; it will never take the shape of a home or a place of comfort.
The artist s environment is constantly changing and backstage is the closest they will get to have their
own space and feel some sense of control over it and assert dominance on anyone who invades it.
Romney mentions in Madonna s Truth or Dare In Bed with Madonna where she denied the
cameraman access to her trailer early on in the film to show who is boss and ultimately runs the

Abstract
The purpose of the essay sets out to look at the concept of nationalisation, research it and discuss
whether it is an applicable strategy to implement into South African policy. The importance of the
essay is to highlight the future economic outcomes which could incur in South Africa should it be

The ANC believed that nationalisation would be the key factor of its economic policy reform.
However after much international research, this idea was abandoned due to the overwhelming failures
of nationalisation implementations abroad. The call for nationalisation has brought upon frantic debate
since its re emergence in recent times. Many observers agree that nationalisation appears to have few
positives attached to it but many negatives to it rendering it as a potential economic failure.
Why Is Nationalisation Needed?
South Africa is regarded to have one of the world s most unequal societies. Looking at Gini
Coefficients, The dispersion of income and wealth between the rich and the poor is one of the most
uneven in the world (Bisekker, 2010). This means that South Africa is drifting towards perfect
inequality. With job creation on a decline, unemployment steadily rising, and inequality gap
worsening, the call for nationalisation by Julius Malema (2009) is sought to allow every South African
to benefit from mines, which are owned and run by the State government. In nationalising the mining
sector in South Africa, the State government believes it would have the capabilities of attracting
labour intensive mining industrialists who will process mineral resources and diversify the South
African economy.
Advantages of Nationalisation
Currently in the post Apartheid era, South Africa hasn t achieved

Analysis Of Phantom Of The Opera
Echoes is written in C Sharp Minor, and the riff begins on the tonic chord. Phantom of the Opera is in
B Flat minor and also begins on the tonic chord. Putting tempo differences aside, the C Sharp Minor
and B Flat Minor Chords respectively hold for a relative equivalent beats. In the final beat(s) of the
bar, a descending chromatic four note pattern plays, beginning on the tonic note, and finishing a major
third below (A major chord in Echoes, and a G flat major in Phantom)...The chords however are
comparably far less audible due to the left hand accenting octaves of the root notes, and serve only as
slight substance and not much audible difference (Alexondrovics, 2016. p. 5).

with suing Andrew f**king Lloyd Webber (Alexondrovics, 2016. p. 5). Webber had lawyers who
countered that any legal action would cost the plaintiff more than the royalties would bring in and

Also, more popular artists of today are not the only ones Webber has been accused of stealing from. If
a person is going to compose an operatic musical, they are going to need to understand opera a little
better and perhaps search out some inspirations for it. This is the very system Webber had to use when
composing for Phantom of the Opera. Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera is almost
entirely similar to the song A Quello che tacete from Puccini s La Fanciulla del West or the English

Socialization Process In Society
The socialization process can be described as the process one undergoes to learn the acceptable way to
behave in society. From a young age, people are taught how to behave, what to think, and how to look.
These variables create rules or norms in society today. Examples of a social norm would be gender
rules today. Zimbardo used the example of a man being interested in ballet being seen as unusual and
being criticized because of his interests (Zimbardo 144). This is a perfect example of socialization
because in society we are groomed to believe that ballet is girly or feminine. While there is nothing
about dance itself that is feminine, humanity has created an association with ballet and females. This
association is a behavior that is learned during the socialization process. Another example of the
socialization process common in today s society would be the gender rule that women are to be
submissive in the relationship. Traditionally women stay home, take care of the kids, and cook meals.
While none of these acts in them self are submissive an association with these acts and submission
from a wife to a husband has formed. This was a perfect example of the socialization process for
young girls growing up with the goal to have a family, a husband, and kids, only to perform wifely
duties as the perfect life. This socialization though has now been broken with more women going into
the workforce and some becoming the breadwinner of the family. Fathers staying home

How Did Roman Roads Build Bridges
Roman Roads and Bridges Introduction
The Roman road system, an intricate network of major as well as minor roads, spanned nearly 50,000
miles, allowed for quick, easy travel and military advantages, and served as a link between many
different centers of population in the Roman Empire. At first, the Romans developed roads for military
use only, utilizing them to gather troops quickly and transport resources to certain places during wars.
Soldiers were even charged with the task of constructing roads. Eventually, civilians replaced them in
this duty and even began using the roads as a means of travel from one place to another. Sometimes
roads needed to traverse rivers and other types of gaps in the land. It was at these obstacles that

Due to the costliness of paving a road its entire length, not all Roman roads had completely paved
surfaces. Some surfaces comprised dirt and others were made of gravel. Many roads even had more
than one surface. An example of this is the Via Appia which was not paved the entire way.
Fun Fact! Did you know that paving stones were preferred because of their durability, and the Romans
had two different methods of paving a road? The first method involved shaping the paving stones into
polygons and connecting them together. In the second method, the Romans formed rectangles out of
the stones and joined them at right angles.
Significant Aspects and Features of the Roman Roads
Camber: The camber was the slightly raised center of the road. This made the road useful during rain
and other kinds of weather because it caused water to flow off of the surface and into the drainage
ditches on the sides. As a result, the roads were easily maintained.
Artificial Ruts: Roads were fitted with grooves on their surfaces in order to steer carts in precipitous
and slippery areas.
Umbones: Umbones were curbstones that lay on either side of the

Tale Of Two Cities Passage Analysis Essay
The passage, Carton s depression , takes place at the end of Book Two Chapter 5 in the book A Tale of
Two Cities, by Charles Dickens. While they were talking about their day, Stryver mentions in front of
Carton how he is up one minute and down the other minute showing how he has very easy mood
changes. This is taking place 5 years after Darnay was on his trial. He was saved by Sydney Carton.
This passage literally explains Carton s feelings after the trial. Carton is basically contemplating his
life. The main function of the passage is to enhance the depth of Cartons character as well as how he
relates to Darnay. This basically explains his mindset. Although carton looked like he was enjoying his
time when he was drinking with his friends, he felt depressed after which is shown through literary
techniques and figurative language including allusions.
C.A: In the passage, Charles Dickens is foreshadowing Carton s actions at the end. However, this
passage serves primarily as motive for the ending of the book or as a representation of Carton who is a
round character. This is shown through Literary techniques and devices like metaphors, allusions, and
diction. Carton is shown in the passage as a person regarding his life as useless and he can t find a

Prosperity In The Swimmer, By John Cheever
The meaning of a happy and prosperous life can take on different forms based on the value and belief
of an individual. For Neddy Merrill, the main character in The Swimmer by John Cheever, prosperity
is solely associated with wealth and social standing. In this essay, I will argue that contrasting images
of the public and private pools, encountered by Neddy swimming across his upper class
neighbourhood, reflect his obsession with material and social success, which ultimately deserted him
in desperation at the end of the story. In The Swimmer , the private pools owned by Neddy s
neighbours are associated with pleasant images, which serve to highlight Neddy s obsession with

In addition, the gather[ing] of prosperous people (Cheever, 175), including Neddy himself, by the
private pool, suggests that Neddy s life is centered on material and social success, which solely
constitute his definition of prosperity. In contrast, the public swimming pool at the Reaction Center is
linked with more unpleasant images to demonstrate Neddy s distaste for lower socioeconomic classes.
Neddy initially compares the public pool to a sink (Cheever, 177). The word sink carries a negative
connotation, as its common function is to hold dirty dishes. By comparing the public pool to a sink , it
also likens public pool users to dirty dishes, revealing that Neddy is looking down on people who
cannot afford a private pool. Moreover, as Neddy entering the public pool, he remarks on his longing
for the sapphire water and thinks that he might contaminate himself damage his own prosperousness
and charm by swimming in this murk (Cheever 177). Unlike the private pool, the water in the public
pool is described as a murk , a term with a negative connotation, which reinforces Neddy s aversion to
the public pool. Meanwhile, Neddy s belief of being

The Metropolitan Opera Monologue
After I watched Carmen, what impressed me the most is Ms.Garanča s performance and the music of

made Carmen more vivid. She performed this opera in The Metropolitan Opera in 2010. In the first
act, when Ms.Garanča sang L amour est un oiseau rebelle , I can tell Carmen s charm and uninhibited
personality. She knows that she is very attractive to men, so she is very confident about herself and
tries to draw all the men s attention. The melody of this aria is very stretchy and flowing and it

On 9/22/2016 I came down to Mrs. Gauthier s office to attempt to change my schedule as I believe
losing 5 weeks of work in a core and elective is uncalled for, in addition some of my classmates were
able to revert their schedule changes. Now I made it clear to her that the point of my schedule change
was not due to me wanting a specific period to talk to friends, but instead to have the same teacher to
minimize the loss of work I would have, as losing over a month of work out of the quarter is
extremely hard to recover from. Throughout talking to her I stated how I talked to my teachers to see
if they had any open classes I can transfer into, my chemistry teacher stated yes as well as my English
teacher who I was switched out of. Now from my research, the state mandate states that there is a 25
student limit only for core classes, so I was also wondering why I was switched out of an elective.
Furthermore, as we went on through the conversation when I told her that my friends were able to
switch their classes she replied to go talk to her counselor instead of me. As well as calling me
difficult although other people had the ability to talk to their counselors, and at the end of our talk she
raised her voice stating that even if she could she won t in contrary to how she said I can t in the
beginning of our talk. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All in all, I have lost the last 5 weeks of hard work across multiple classes, and I truly feel this is
uncalled for and am trying really hard to get the same teachers back, even if all my period

Reflection Essay
As the first semester of my first year as an undergraduate student has progressed, I have realized how
quickly time is passing by. I can easily recall back to the beginning of the semester when it was Frosh
week and how nervous and excited I felt as I was about to commence the new chapter in my life that is
post secondary. As the mid semester quickly sneaks upon us with another five weeks left, I have found
myself to be stumbling from morning to morning and from deadline to deadline. I am mentally and
physically exhausted as well as overwhelmed with the amount of work I am required to complete; I
am burnt out. At the beginning of the semester I had created several academic goals which would aid
in my overall academic success. These goals consisted of organizing and planning out my week in
advance, doing the assigned textbook readings for each class as well as avoiding last minute
assignments and studying. I believe that each one of my goals are achievable, distinct and will reward
me with an increase in my overall academics, however I did not achieve my goals for more than two
weeks. As I didn t plan out my schedule I had also lost track of my responsibilities and was
unproductive most of the time. As a result, I found myself behind in my readings and was working on
assignments as well as studying last minute. Midterm week was perhaps the worst week I have
experienced to this day in my academic journey, I had cried more times than I could count and due to

Human Security And The Security Of A State
When it comes to the security of a state, more traditional perspectives place security of the state above
the security of its people. A direct opposition would be a less traditional perspective that the state
should protect its most valuable asset, the people. Before comparing human security topics and
traditional security topics, both must be explained because incorporation of human security to
traditional security values causes mass tension. In the most basic of definitions, human security is
keeping the people free from any ridicule, discrimination or terror that they may encounter. While
human security is key to the function of a state, the issue should not be implemented to be covered by
traditional security topics. Security as a whole, should be more specific to state security and human
security. Security of one should not trump nor take away from the security of another. Both the state
and the people or co dependant and the safety of both is key to the progression of a state.
These contradictory perspectives create tension between the state and the people making security
decisions very difficult. The inability to determine a distinction between hard security, a more
fundamental and more access based way of security. This applies to the intricate system of encryption
and data restrictions that the state enforces. A soft security standpoint would apply to more awareness
bases ways of providing security. Soft security uses the people as its driving force and its

Geospiza Filiginosa Hypothesis
On his visit to Galapagos Island, Charles Darwin discovered several species of birds. Upon his arrival
in England, he discovered that the birds were actually the same species. Although they possessed
certain similar characteristics the birds each had unique morphological qualities that made them differ
from one another. This inspired his famous evolution theory, which is now a biological fact due to the
enormous evidence supporting the theory.
Famous scientists, like Rosemary Grant and her husband, made so many important discoveries on
their work on the finches in Galapagos, which explained how selection can be an agent of
evolutionary changes (Grant Grant 2006). The type of species that are being investigated is the

Each researcher will need a salary of $65,000 for their extensive 11 month research done on the
islands. Flying round trip from Cincinnati to the closest airport to the islands (in Ecuador) costs about
$900 per ticket, with a one way boat ride costing $150 each. Housing and food is a necessity for the
researchers, so equipment to hunt would be more cost effective than providing large amounts of food
to go with them. For nearly $2000 dollars, fishing poles and crossbows or other equipment to help
hunt or grow food can be provided. Each researcher will be provided with an $800 Large Canvas tent
and some equipment for personal needs and cooking for about $500 each. A budget table, table 4,
provides information on expenses on an individual person and for the group of four people. Research
costs will be relatively low as the equipment needed for that is relatively cheap. For the research, nets
to catch the birds will be needed, as well as tags to be able to identify each bird

Have you ever experienced one of the hardest and most challenging things on the planet earth? Boot
camp, also known as basic training, is one of the toughest programs you may go through. It requires a
lot of physical and mental preparation and strength. Depending on which branch of the military you go

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On The Mountain Goat I have been in existence for many, many years. I predate the oldest man alive, for as long as any living being can remember my ridged body has stood tall, for longer than even I can recall. I have many children but none are better fit for my near vertical landscape than my favorite creature, the mountain goat. He s stable strong and sturdy, built for the mountain, virtually a king when to my steep surface, while the goat doesn t have sharp claws or strong jaws meant to defend themselves from becoming prey, but they do have strategy. Strategy that is a must have for this species to survive and thrive, strategy that without, the antagonist of this story would almost certainly devour our horned friend. That being said we must not interfere, you as a human and I as a mountain, humans often bring emotion into nature, believing predator and prey could get along or come to an understanding, the childish ranting of a delusionist who took Disney films far too serious. The only understanding these two have is that one will try to eat and the other survive, now let us watch through the eyes of the hooved and clawed. My hoofs are sore, I ve been climbing all day as I do most days and I m exhausted. I m not sure if I should stop here though, it s not very far up the mountain, a predator could be around waiting for the moment I let my guard down but can I keep going? No ill find a corner to take a quick nap to regain a little energy, as I lay down everything slowly becomes dark, will I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Seed Germination Lab Syed Rizvi Mitra Asgari BIO 1500, Section 14 February 28, 2017 Seed Germination Lab Report Introduction: As the weather gets warmer, and with spring being just around the corner, many gardeners and farmers are getting prepared to gather materials that they will use to grow their plants this year. One of these materials could be the usage of a synthetic fertilizer, like Miracle Gro, to speed up the growth rate of the plant. As these types of fertilizers become more popular, anyone who may be new to the field of agricultural growth may question on whether or not synthetic fertilizers, like Miracle Gro, actually help in speeding up a seed s growth rate. This lab will help to determine an answer by looking at types of seeds and how they react with and without Miracle Gro. The two types of seeds that will be used in this experiment are known as monocot and dicot. Monocots and dicots mainly differ in their structural make and their germination process. Monocots, only give sprout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the 7 day period, the graph effectively shows that the barley treated by the Miracle Gro germinated at a much higher rate than the water only treatment. Having a ratio of 1:2, 1:3, and 1:2 with its respective days, it displays how effective the fertilizer was in germinating the seed. The average shoot length between the two treatments are similar in results to the percent of seeds germinated. The seeds treated by the Miracle Gro resulted in a higher shoot and root average. The ratios, when the two treatments are put side by side, display similar ratios as well, showing a 1:2 ratio. Overall it can be stated however that even though there were many seeds, from both treatments, that germinated, the Miracle Gro treatment showed a more affluent result as the treatment actually grew significantly compared to the water treatment. ... Liberalism and Its Key Values In the study of Liberalism and its key values, those of Democracy and Social Justice have often been posited as providing the world with an ideology and political philosophy which can guarantee peace between its adherents. The Democratic Peace has been formulated in order to illustrate a world in which democratic states do not engage in war between each oth er as fellow democrats live with a stable and historically unique form of government. This essay shall explore whether it is acceptable that one can portray liberal democracy in par ticular as universally applicable in a standard form. This is a central tenet of the democratic peace theory and as such requires questioning to determine whether or not liberalism is indeed a force peace in world politics. Furthermore, it shall look at many pieces of postcolonial International Relations (IR) theory, engage with democratic peace theory directly, as well as some contemporary examples of liberal actions in order to assess the peaceful state, thus far, of liberalism. It is my argument that although the democratic peace theory does portray the best intentions of those Liberal States who actively engage in world politics, it is not, howev er, accurate in portraying liberalism as a whole as peaceful. Instead by accepting and discuss ing the peace between liberal nations, it fails to highlight and in fact sometimes seeks to hide the more aggressive and warring actions of liberals against those from outside of the para digm. • 7. Cloning Bad Is cloning bad or good for us? According to NIH website, it states there are three different types of artificial cloning: gene cloning, reproductive cloning and therapeutic cloning. In our biology textbook it states that cloning makes an identical copy of a gene. Gene cloning replicates genes and DNA segments. Reproductive cloning makes a duplication of an animal. Therapeutic cloning makes embryonic stem cells to help produce tissues to restore damaged or diseased tissues. I believe that cloning technology can help resolve many things, we would be able to learn and develop more things that could help the world. An example of reproductive cloning is Dolly the sheep. She was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell, which is much more difficult to clone from. She lived to be only 6 years old due to arthritis. They took an udder cell from a six year old Finn Dorset white sheep. They changed the growth medium to keep the udder cell alive but it stopped them from expanding. According to the article Cloning Dolly The Sheep ,they injected the cell into an unfertilised egg cell and made the cells fuse by using electrical pulses. Characterisation In Away By GowAway By Gow With the will to search for new experiences and fresh perceptions of the world we live in, creates the ability for individuals to overcome confronting challenges and provide gains through the journey of personal realization, new ideas and acceptance of ourselves and who we truly are. This is represented through the play Away composed by Gow that addresses the contextual era of 1967 where the after effects of the great depression and the WW2 was huge and where a high influx of migrants settled Australia. furthermore, these themes are exploited through William Shakespeare s pastoral romance, the tempest through the involvement of characters who undergo a fortuitous discovery of self. Through newfound discoveries and contemporary ways of thinking, beliefs and identity have been altered and transformed. In Away , Gow s characterisation of tom and Coral exploit deep personal realisations. For Tom going away on holiday allows for him to make sense of what is happening and reflect on life, his realisation is not on the issue of dying the realisation is on living, and this realisation is made through watching people in his lives and how they waste time and he starts to change his belief that, in fact, it might not be a curse but a privilege as he has meaning in his life and a purpose to live. The Colorado River is essential to the American Southwest, draining into about 242,000 square miles of land to include seven U.S. states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. Today the color of the river is more of a blue green though, due to the creation of the Glen Canyon Dam in 1963. The silt and sediments that gave the river its reddish brown color are now trapped behind the dam at the bottom of Lake Powell. Before the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam, the Colorado river could carry around 500,000 tons of silt and sediment per day through the Grand Canyon. The peak flow rate before the dam was normally around 85,000 cfs (abbreviation for cubic feet per second which is used to measure river flow rates). The peak flow rate after construction was reduced to 30,000 cfs. The reduction in cfs resulted in a smaller distribution of the iconic red colored silt and sediment. The main reason for the creation of the Glen Canyon Dam was to stop silt from building up behind Hoover Dam. The construction of the dam has had a negative impact on the Grand Canyon environment. The flash floods that at one time scrubbed the canyon clean and deposited fresh sand along the beaches no longer occurs. The water temperature used to get as warm as 80 degrees F. It is now icy cold year round and averages around 42 degrees F. Because of this drastic temperature change, some of the native fish that used to flourish in the river have become extinct while others have become endangered. • 10. What Is A Representative Democracy As stated in The Struggle for Democracy, the U.S. is a representative democracy, also known as a republic (). In this system of government, unlike a direct democracy in which all citizens vote on all public matters, elected representatives govern the people. The U.S. system consists of three separate governing branches, executive, judicial, and legislative, which all hold checks and balances on one another. These checks and balances were meant to ensure the U.S. would be as democratic as possible and prohibit one branch from gaining too much power. Throughout America s history, the system has predominantly been a success. In the world today, the United States is looked upon as a bastion for democratic principles. The U.S. State Department itself ardently embraces the lofty goals of promoting democracy around the world, assisting those in foreign lands who wish to establish democracies, and denouncing regimes that deny citizens their rightful ability to conduct and participate in free, fair, and transparent elections (). Americans at large also support democracy enthusiastically. A myriad of citizen ardently proclaim the U.S. s democratic ideals and the freedoms they allow qualify the U.S. to be the greatest country in the world. While parts of this is true the U.S. is indeed a global advocate of spreading democracy and Americans enjoy many freedoms not privy to citizens living under repressive regimes such as Saudi Arabia or Pakistan the American political system as a whole ... In the play, the new king Oedipus attempts to find the murderer of the previous king, Laius to rid his kingdom of a curse and help his people. The enraged seer then adds that Oedipus commited vile acts with the people close to him, referring to how Oedipus unknowingly married and had children with his biological mother. Teiresias tells Oedipus that Oedipus is blind to the situation and Creon didn t plot against him. Oedipus angrily tells Teiresias to leave. As Teiresias turns away he tells him that he will soon realize what has happened, insults Oedipus by questioning his ability to solve puzzles, and tells him that he does not fear Oedipus punishing him for the things that he told him. • 20. Difference Between Forensic Anthropology And Forensic... There are many different forms of forensic studies. Two of these forms are forensic anthropology and forensic pathology. Though there are similarities in these two fields, there are also many differences. When choosing whether to have a career in Forensic Anthropology or Forensic Pathology, one must first know the differences in salary, the focus of study, the different education and certifications needed for each career, diverse abilities needed, personality types, as well as the distinctive software used in each field. To begin, although there are many different career options for both Forensic Anthropology and Forensic Pathology, the difference in salary can influence which career path some desire to work in. For example, the average yearly salary for a forensic anthropologist was around fifty four thousand dollars (A., n.d.), while the average annual salary for a forensic pathologist was just over one hundred and ninety thousand dollars (Franklin, B. (Ed.). (n.d.)). With this gap in annual salary, an individual could face the dilemma of choosing between what they want to do, or the amount of money they want to make. Though this is a large difference, some individuals may decide that the salary does not matter opposed to following one s dreams. In any case, the person will find a specific area of study to focus on. Though there are many similarities in these two careers, their fields of study are very different. The main difference is the career description. Forensic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One major right that all of these teenagers are missing is the right to buy and consume alcohol. The question is posed is whether lowering the minimum drinking age to eighteen would be a better or worse idea. Jeffery A. Miron, a senior lecturer at Harvard University s economics department, and Elina Tetelbaum, a law student from Yale University, write in their argumentative article in Forbes Magazine, The Dangers of the Drinking Age , in which they believe that the minimum drinking age of twenty one is not working. After conducting studies, they found that the minimum legal drinking age of twenty one has little or no effect on traffic fatalities. Lowering the minimum drinking age to eighteen would likely have the same effects as the minimum age of twenty one; it is reasonable to assume that underage teenagers may feel less rebellious knowing that they can legally buy and consume alcohol at the age of eighteen. Research On Information Metering And Measurement Information Metering and Measurement Study in information metering and measurement can be classified into smart metering, and smart monitoring and measurement. In the following, this classification in point. a)Smart Metering: Smart metering is the mainly important mechanism used in the Smart Grid for obtaining information from end users devices and appliances, while also controlling the performance of the devices. Automatic metering infrastructure (AMI) systems, which are themselves built upon automatic meter reading (AMR) systems, are broadly regarded as a sound strategy to realize Smart Grid. AMR is the technology of routinely collecting analytical, expenditure, and status data from energy metering devices and transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing. AMI differs from traditional AMR in that it enables two way communications with the meter. So almost all of this information is available in real time and on demand, allowing for better system operations and customer power demand organization. b) Smart meters, which carry two way communications amid the meter and the central system, are like in many aspects to AMI meters, or occasionally are regarded as part of the AMI. A smart meter is typically an electrical meter that records use in intervals of an hour or less and sends that information at least every day back to the utility for monitoring and billing purposes. • 26. How Important Is Having A Clear Process How important is having a clear process in regards to informing a design outcome? Setting up progressive goals and rules helps a designer in making everything more clearly and efficiently, so as to achieve the anticipated and satisfactory design outcome. What designers need to do is to first provide a rudimentary design map, covering different small processes, explaining what are their specific operations as well as their importance in contributing to the final outcome. Secondly, designers need to follow these preset processes, assuring each step is correctly followed. But on top of that, they could definitely add in some spontaneous and creative personal ideas during the implementation of the plan, which will hopefully make the project more like their own s, other than a robotic, emotionless work. In the first place, having a clear process enables designers to understand the concepts in greater depth. This could later facilitate and guide the development and implementation of design projects. To comprehend the topics, designers need to define the meanings of the topics, outline related fields and think about the project purposes. Our group was assigned to the topic boundaries (Bruce studio), which required us to determine and understand the criteria in deciding whether an area is bound or unbound . In the early 1980 s in the English countryside the police were trying their hardest to find the man who was raping and murdering young teenage girls. The police had used all their resources and the investigation had reached a devastating end until they relied on one scientist who had invented what is now used with almost every crime today. From a young age, people are taught how to behave, what to think, and how to look. These variables create rules or norms in society today. Examples of a social norm would be gender rules today. Zimbardo used the example of a man being interested in ballet being seen as unusual and being criticized because of his interests (Zimbardo 144). This is a perfect example of socialization because in society we are groomed to believe that ballet is girly or feminine. While there is nothing about dance itself that is feminine, humanity has created an association with ballet and females. This association is a behavior that is learned during the socialization process. Another example of the socialization process common in today s society would be the gender rule that women are to be submissive in the relationship. Traditionally women stay home, take care of the kids, and cook meals. While none of these acts in them self are submissive an association with these acts and submission from a wife to a husband has formed. This was a perfect example of the socialization process for young girls growing up with the goal to have a family, a husband, and kids, only to perform wifely duties as the perfect life. COO is paid the highest, its median annual salary is $455,864. Then is HRIS Manager with a median annual salary of $113,583. Customer Service Representative gets the lowest payment, $35,250 as a median annual salary. This rank is exact what I expected, because COO requires much higher educational level and years of experience than the other two, and Customer Service Representative is only an entry level job. 2. Actually, I found these three job descriptions quite clear and useful to define the jobs titles because information included is comprehensive, so they give me a general summary of the job itself. 4. Check out these jobs at either your company or on different job boards. Where did you find the jobs? How does the pay for jobs advertised either at your company or elsewhere differ from the pay levels on salary.com? Why do these differences exist? I checked out these jobs at payscale.com. The US median annual salaries for COO, HRIS Manager, and Customer Service Representative are $135,006, $82,025, and $34,795. The numbers are quite different from the ones at Boston. I consider this difference due to the geographic reason. The living cost at Boston is much higher than most other cities in the US, so the salary will be higher. However, we can see there is little difference in the salary of Customer Service Representative, this is because most of them get hourly payment, and the lowest hourly payment is much similar in most cities under the state ... • 42. Schedule Reflection On 9/22/2016 I came down to Mrs. Gauthier s office to attempt to change my schedule as I believe losing 5 weeks of work in a core and elective is uncalled for, in addition some of my classmates were able to revert their schedule changes. Now I made it clear to her that the point of my schedule change was not due to me wanting a specific period to talk to friends, but instead to have the same teacher to minimize the loss of work I would have, as losing over a month of work out of the quarter is extremely hard to recover from. Throughout talking to her I stated how I talked to my teachers to see if they had any open classes I can transfer into, my chemistry teacher stated yes as well as my English teacher who I was switched out of. Now from my research, the state mandate states that there is a 25 student limit only for core classes, so I was also wondering why I was switched out of an elective. Furthermore, as we went on through the conversation when I told her that my friends were able to switch their classes she replied to go talk to her counselor instead of me. As well as calling me difficult although other people had the ability to talk to their counselors, and at the end of our talk she raised her voice stating that even if she could she won t in contrary to how she said I can t in the beginning of our talk. ... • 43. Reflection Essay As the first semester of my first year as an undergraduate student has progressed, I have realized how quickly time is passing by. I can easily recall back to the beginning of the semester when it was Frosh week and how nervous and excited I felt as I was about to commence the new chapter in my life that is post secondary. As the mid semester quickly sneaks upon us with another five weeks left, I have found myself to be stumbling from morning to morning and from deadline to deadline. I am mentally and physically exhausted as well as overwhelmed with the amount of work I am required to complete; I am burnt out. At the beginning of the semester I had created several academic goals which would aid in my overall academic success. These goals consisted of organizing and planning out my week in advance, doing the assigned textbook readings for each class as well as avoiding last minute assignments and studying. I believe that each one of my goals are achievable, distinct and will reward me with an increase in my overall academics, however I did not achieve my goals for more than two weeks. As I didn t plan out my schedule I had also lost track of my responsibilities and was unproductive most of the time. As a result, I found myself behind in my readings and was working on assignments as well as studying last minute. Midterm week was perhaps the worst week I have experienced to this day in my academic journey, I had cried more times than I could count and due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Human Security And The Security Of A State When it comes to the security of a state, more traditional perspectives place security of the state above the security of its people. A direct opposition would be a less traditional perspective that the state should protect its most valuable asset, the people. Before comparing human security topics and traditional security topics, both must be explained because incorporation of human security to traditional security values causes mass tension. In the most basic of definitions, human security is keeping the people free from any ridicule, discrimination or terror that they may encounter. While human security is key to the function of a state, the issue should not be implemented to be covered by traditional security topics. Security as a whole, should be more specific to state security and human security. Security of one should not trump nor take away from the security of another. Both the state and the people or co dependant and the safety of both is key to the progression of a state. These contradictory perspectives create tension between the state and the people making security decisions very difficult. The inability to determine a distinction between hard security, a more fundamental and more access based way of security. This applies to the intricate system of encryption and data restrictions that the state enforces. A soft security standpoint would apply to more awareness bases ways of providing security. Soft security uses the people as its driving force and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Geospiza Filiginosa Hypothesis On his visit to Galapagos Island, Charles Darwin discovered several species of birds. Upon his arrival in England, he discovered that the birds were actually the same species. Although they possessed certain similar characteristics the birds each had unique morphological qualities that made them differ from one another. This inspired his famous evolution theory, which is now a biological fact due to the enormous evidence supporting the theory. Famous scientists, like Rosemary Grant and her husband, made so many important discoveries on their work on the finches in Galapagos, which explained how selection can be an agent of evolutionary changes (Grant Grant 2006). The type of species that are being investigated is the Geospiza Fuliginosa (small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each researcher will need a salary of $65,000 for their extensive 11 month research done on the islands. Flying round trip from Cincinnati to the closest airport to the islands (in Ecuador) costs about $900 per ticket, with a one way boat ride costing $150 each. Housing and food is a necessity for the researchers, so equipment to hunt would be more cost effective than providing large amounts of food to go with them. For nearly $2000 dollars, fishing poles and crossbows or other equipment to help hunt or grow food can be provided. Each researcher will be provided with an $800 Large Canvas tent and some equipment for personal needs and cooking for about $500 each. A budget table, table 4, provides information on expenses on an individual person and for the group of four people. Research costs will be relatively low as the equipment needed for that is relatively cheap.
