Characteristics Of The Renaissance
The beginning of the renaissance started in the 1400 s in Florence. Many turned towards Humanism
which was an emphasis on man s qualities and power. Idealistic realism was showed through the
paintings in this time. Idealistic realism was a way of painting people as real as possible, to how they
would look like in life. Michelangelo demonstrated this technique through his statue, The David. The
Renaissance also focused on what is now called the ideal renaissance man , which was an athletic
looking, handsome, and intelligent man. During this time, the Caravel was invented, which was a
large boat used mostly for exploration. This was a new way to spread the ideas and also expand
territory. These were the same boats that Columbus used to found North America. Another key event
during this time was the Spanish Inquisition. Spain decided that they only wanted Catholics in there
country so the soon used violence to convert the Muslims and Jews to Catholicism. Soon most of
Spain had become Catholic. These are just a few of the characteristics of the Renaissance, which all
connect together and in short, shape the decisions of the people of this time. The 15th century was
filled with many religious complications and many of the new moral standards and lifestyles were
affected by the disasters that occurred in the 14th century. There was the Western Schism, church
corruption, and the Spanish Inquisition, all of which changed the church to the modern sense they are
now. Throughout the

Christianity Is A Religion Based On The Person And God
There are over a billion people in the World who follow and support the Catholic Church. Christianity
is a religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Ever since Christianity started to
emerge in the mid first century it has only increased in size and became even more powerful now than
in the origins of the Religion. Jesus Christ is considered to be the Son of God and through the Bible s
scriptures that include many sacred writings of Christianity it has given people hope and more
importantly something to believe in. Faith is a huge part of any Religion because that is when you put
your complete trust or confidence in someone or something. For Christians our faith is put into the
Bible, believing in and worshipping a supreme being, God, and a superhuman, Jesus Christ. The
importance to Christianity and to anyone s growth in Christian life can be seen through believing in
someone whether human or divine, God as three persons in one divine being, genuine friendship, the
sacraments, and Jesus Christ as the fullness of both divinity and humanity. Although Christianity is not
for everyone, there are thousands of different kinds of Religion from which an individual can choose
to follow. Even though Christianity is one of the biggest Religions in the World there are just some
people who either don t believe in Christianity or have a hard time understanding it. Being brought up
as a Christian I have put my faith in God s hands as did my family and many others.

Hospice Essay
Hospice
In my essay I will explain what hospices are, what they do and how they do it. I will also cover who
do it to and what their response is to what the hospice have provided them with. This essay will also
explain how the hospice is the alternative to euthanasia, pain and suffering. The Hospice movement
represents one Christian response to pain and suffering.
What is a Hospice?
A hospice is a home for the care of terminally ill (People who are dying).
The aim of a hospice is to improve the quality of life of the dying person and bring relief to the family
members. Hospices are different to hospitals because hospitals cure or treat patients for them to heal

When David died she carried on with this idea but she knew she would have to train as a doctor to get
the support she needs. In her studies she concentrated on the study of pain and the use of drugs.
During her time training as a doctor she worked at a hospice, this was
St Joseph s Hospice that was run by Catholic nuns. She became a practising Christian. This was a very
good experience because she could talk to real people with real problems of dying. She realised that
the last few weeks of a person s life could be the most important.
It was time for her ideas to be put into practise in 1959. She put her ideas on paper for a centre for the
dying. She knew what she wanted to cal it: St Christopher s Hospice. She chose the name because the
dying are travellers to an unknown place (after death) St Christopher is the saint who look after the
travellers. She sent her proposal off as to as many important people as possible. The first St
Christopher s Hospice opened in 1967.
How do they deal with pain?
The St Christopher hospice deals with pain through the use of drugs and Technology. The hospices
concentrate with 2 major diseases. The first is Cancer and the second is Motor neurone syndrome.
The Hospice aims to improve the quality of life for the patient and relief for their family. They provide
pain control because pain is a key figure in which

A Little Brief Background On The Family Farm By Sylvia...
Sylvia Bojcvuk, born to Alexander and Albina Bojcvuk on their family farm on January 19th, 1928 in
Ukraine. Little did this young baby girl know she was about to endure a tragic, yet adventurous life
that would impact generations. A little brief background on Ukraine at the time of Sylvia s youth in
1941 Germany and Romania invaded Ukraine changing the country to Romania, then 1944 Soviet
soldier s invaded naming it back to Ukraine, which seems to come full circle to today with the
constant battle of Russia attempting to merge Ukraine into Russia for good. Unfortunately, Soviet
soldiers have a dark history of raping many of the young girls when they invaded Ukraine in 1944.
Sylvia was sixteen at the time and her mother and father hid her in their local farm, this constant
hiding lead to Albina decided they could no longer remain in Ukraine, which is the beginning of
Sylvia Bojcvuk s pilgrimage to a better life. The Bojcvuk family began by taking a train out of
Ukraine, hoping to go South where both Sylvia s older brother and sister currently resided, but the
Soviet soldiers were blocking passage to the South so they had to go west, leaving behind Sylvia s
brother, Adolf, and sister, Eleanor. Unfortunately, Sylvia was never again reunited with her siblings.
Adolf Bojcvuk later died of brain cancer in the 1980 s, and Eleanor Bojcvuk resides in Romania today
in her ninety s. Taking the train west, the Bojcvuk s resided in Austria where Sylvia attended nursing

The Impact Of Residential Schools On Aboriginal People
This paper revealed the impact of residential schools on the Aboriginal people of Canada. If one does
not expect to find education as a tool for assimilation and colonization, indeed you expect to find
abuse as a way of assimilation. This paper argued that although there was an apology if Canada
continues to discriminate against the Aboriginal people reconciliation is not a factor. It is evident that
the Canada government obviously want to stop the Aboriginal people s culture, language, and
spirituality. They look at the Aboriginal people as inferior to take care of their children. It was clear
that the Aboriginal children were forcefully collected from their parent to be under abuse all in the
name of assimilation. It is no doubt that

The Chrysalids
The Chrysalids is a story set in the future. In the story, the normal people living in Waknuks, where
David came from, were searching for the abnormal, or the mutants and tried to kill them. Throughout
the story, they were very eager to look for David and the rest of his telepathy group to investigate their
special powers or even, to kill them. The reason of them really doing so was not because of that the
telepathies were actually different, but is due to that they were scared that the telepathies would rule
the place as they had special, extraordinary abilities, which normal people did not have. Other than
that, normal people certainly did not deserve the rights to destroy mutants just because they were not

You my own son
Were calling upon the Devil to give you another hand!
You blasphemed, boy.
You found fault with the Norm. (Wyndham 26)
David s dad strongly disapproved his son to even think about being a mutant. It was a serious sin to
want to be or think to be a human imaged against God s will. It was obvious that the Waknuks were
injustice to the mutants.
Being rude and wanting to destroy the mutants was not fair as well. This can be considered as
discrimination. Just because they have physical or mental disabilities, or that they do not look how a
perfect human should look, they do not deserve to be treated poorly. It is not humane to send all the
mutants to live in Fringes and leave them with a poor living condition. Fringes is a place with a
relatively higher level of radiation, so deviation was quite common in the place.
The Waknuks also think the fringes people (mutants) were a threat to them because they have made
raids in civilized areas for food. Children are told that the fringes eat people. This is obviously a story
that parents made up to scare them to keep them in line, and I think these stories are told mostly
because of the fear because mutants are different. One matter that led to that kind of horror is because
the old people experienced Tribulation, and they were afraid that this serious punishment from God is
going to happen again. That is why they tried in every possible method to live to God s will; to follow

Employment For Former Prisoners Essay
Former prisoners face larger barriers because US current policies are preventing or decreasing their
chance of obtaining certain jobs that will dominate the market in the next twenty years. According to
the U.S. Department of Justice, nearly every person in jail, and 95 percent of state prison inmates, will
someday be released; however, about 68% may return to prison (goodwill). Former incarcerated
individuals are often ineligible to obtain any financial assistance that will allow them to enroll in post
secondary institutions, which is required by many high demand industries. According to transitional
jobs (2006), ...not only does steady employment have a tremendous impact on the financial status and
self respect of the individuals who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, former incarcerated individuals will become in danger of remaining a permanent lower
class because they have many limitations on the type of jobs that will be available to them, which
mostly pays minimum wages. To make matters worse, many former incarcerated individuals do not
obtain much education, which will diminish their ability of facing the challenges of 21st century
workforce and reduce any chance for a high quality of life. Many inmates may possibly entered prison
without obtaining any high school credentials, which could be one of the reasons that recidivism
remains prominent. Three quarters of state prison inmates are dropouts, as are 59% of federal inmates.
In fact, dropouts are 3.5 times more likely than high school graduates to be incarcerated in their
lifetime (AYPF). Many of these prisoners may have been incarcerated for a long period of time;
consequently, causing their skills to become more obsolete compare to skills that were required before
they entered the penal system. The development of technology, scientific, and medical programs may
not be as prominent and sophisticated as it was before their arrest, especially since United States just
recently proposed implementing 21st century courses in secondary institutions. State prisoners
average a tenth grade education and score below their grade level on cognitive tests (Western 2008).
They will have to start with lower level courses if they want to

Abraham Lincoln Domestic Agenda
Abraham Lincoln s Domestic Agenda during the Civil War Abraham Lincoln is generally
acknowledged as one of the nation s greatest presidents because of his accomplishments during his
presidency. He was a politician and lawyer who served as the sixteenth president of the United States
during one of the most controversial times in American history, known as the American Civil War. The
Civil War broke out on April 12, 1861, shortly after President Lincoln was inaugurated, in Fort
Sumter, South Carolina, and was fought till May 9, 1865, when Robert E. Lee surrendered the last
major Confederate army to Ulysses S.Grant (McPherson). Fighting over the controversy of slavery,

On November 19, 1863, Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address, along with Edward Everett, at a
ceremony dedicating the battlefield as a National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In less than
three minutes, Lincoln identified the nation s mission with the principle that all men are created equal,
spoke of the war as bringing about a new birth of freedom, and defined the essence of democratic
government. Lincoln honored the Union dead and reminded the listeners of the purpose of the soldier
s sacrifice: equality, freedom, and national unity (HistoryNet). The sacrifices of Union soldiers,
Lincoln declared, would ensure that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not
perish from the earth. The Battle of Gettysburg which was fought four months earlier, was the single
bloodiest battle of the Civil War, where more than 45,000 men were killed, injured, and captured. In
fact, this battle proved to be the turning point of the war: General Robert E. Lee s defeat and retreat
from Gettysburg marked the last Confederate invasion of Northern territory and the beginning of the
Southern army s ultimate decline. Though not well received at the time, it took its place among the
most famous speeches in

A Good Man Is Hard And Find By Flannery O Connor The...
In the short fiction A good man is hard to find written by Flannery O connor The family goes on a
road trip to Florida, and the grandmother doesn t want to go because there is an escaped murderer who
is told to be headed to Florida. There are many different views of the story, but most of them revolve
around the underlying religious message. The author uses foreshadowing, and irony to show what this
story portrays. O connor is from the south and is catholic. The grandmother in the story is a big
believer in god, and talks about him a lot throughout. John Desmond says how the title reminds him of
a story in the Bible when Christ rebukes Peter when he tried to call him good , and Jesus says that no
one should be called good, and how in the story the grandmother continues to call the misfit good
(Desmond). Nome, I ain t a good man (191) He knew he wasn t the worst in the world, but he knew he
wasn t good. I feel like the misfit wasn t a good man. He brutally murdered this entire family for no
reason, other than that they recognized him as the escapee.
The grandmother has a strong faith in God and it affects every aspect of her life. The misfit doesn t
believe in Jesus and that he threw everything off balance when he claimed to raise the dead. He doesn
t believe that Jesus was real because he says that he wasn t there to see Jesus raise the dead, so
because of this he has no faith. This totally contradicts the grandmother s beliefs. Even though

Innocence And Maturation In Thomas Hart Benton s Persephone
Innocence and maturation are two key aspects of the human experience. The innocent mind allows
you to live with less doubt and worry but it leaves you vulnerable to manipulation and people taking
advantage of you. Thomas Hart Benton s Persephone portrays the myth of Persephone and Hades. The
Rape of Persephone goes as so; Zeus gives Persephone to Hades to have as his wife. Persephone is out
and about and Hades takes her to the Underworld. A heartbroken Demeter, goddess of harvest and
agriculture, Persephone s mom, refuses to grow anything until Persephone returns. Persephone is
allowed back but Hades tricks her, making her unable to leave the underworld permanently. Demeter
compromises that Persephone can be in the Underworld part of the year but that nothing will grow
while her daughter is away, forcing Persephone s return and creating the seasons. Taking a new turn
on the ancient myth, Benton sets the painting in a rural scene and illustrates a bare Persephone lying
leisurely, surrounded by greenery with Hades and his chariot lurking behind her. The juxtaposition
between the foliage, Persephone s nude figure, and the wrinkled Hades in the background creates an
imbalance between maturation and sexuality with a blithe young woman caught in the middle.
Overall, Benton s Persephone accentuates the bliss of naivete coinciding with the overwhelming
malevolence and sexualization present in the world. Initially, Benton s brush strokes dictate the
movement of the piece, shaping the foliage around Persephone in a nurturing and purposeful manner. I
think this pulls Persephone towards the viewer and draws more attention to her exposure and
vulnerability. It also symbolizes Demeter s protective nature and deep seeded love for her daughter. It
feels as though the movement of the plant life also creates a barrier of protection between the aloof
and defenseless Persephone and the wrinkled and perverted Hades. I believe this determines the
importance of protecting the young and naive, especially with an abundance of attention in this world
leading to desensitivity, and later sexualization. This reminds me of a speech Emma Watson made to
the United Nations where she details how the media began to sexualize her as early as

The Uses Of Art And Music In The Art Of Music
I perceive art as the unique use of imagination and creativity to express new ideas and thought
primarily through media accessible by an audience. Art entails a broad range of activities of creativity
designed to convey ideas to readers and listeners with aims of information transfer. An artist uses
various methods of expressing ideas such as drawings, paintings, music, and plays. Music specifically
is a form of art mostly based on sounds. Music, therefore, entails different sounds played, in particular,
a pattern designed to amuse or entertain. Additionally, music adds to the methods of information
transfer from sources, usually artists, to an audience. The art of music in many cases gets in place in
entertainment purposes following the vivid fact that changing tunes and vibrations of sounds changes
emotions and thoughts, which contribute to entertainment through internet. Music adds substantially
to changing thoughts and emotions primarily by information exchange whereby an artist presents
ideas to an audience in the form of music, in turn, the audience s thoughts and imaginations line
significantly to the rhythm of the artist. Art promotes understanding and entertainment based on the
different forms of expressing ideas and information that are frequently used. Music in many cases
turns out to be powerful equipment or tools used to share, cultivate and encourage communities based
on interests, styles, and culture. Technology is an advanced tool aimed

Analysis Of The Poem The Ode On Intimations Of...
Sometimes, art is a joke, or an explanation, or a song. Art can inspire, destroy, or create. Art can be
whatever you need it to be. Sometimes, you need a scream. A scream into a void telling it what you
think and feel all the while hoping for a scream back. That s what Ode on Intimations of Immortality
From Early Childhood by William Wordsworth is, Wordsworth s desperate attempt to scream into the
void the best he could. But, what is he trying to say?
The title is the first indication of the meaning of the poem. Since Wordsworth calls it an ode, he is
saying that the intimations of immortality from early childhood are what he will be addressing in this
poem. An intimation is the first indication or hint of something. So, the title is ... Show more content

He doesn t say what the thought was or what relived the thought, but it is interesting to note that from
the shepherd boy to the lamb to the bird all carry connotations of youth and vibrancy. As we see later
on, this connection between youth and nature goes much deeper. The joy felt throughout this stanza is
carried over into the fourth stanza where there is a such a vibrant celebration even the very earth is a
part of it. During this celebration, he says that it would be an evil day if he were upset right now. This
almost suggests that he is unhappy right now and is forcing himself to be happy. It guides the reader to
question this happiness and separate the narrator, and in turn themselves, from the scene laid out
before them. The distrust is only heightened when from the very trees and flowers themselves a
question is whispered. Where is that dream from before? Where did it go?
This is how the fourth stanza concludes as it lays the groundwork for the rest of the poem by tying
together the first four stanzas. These first four stanzas are used by Wordsworth to prepare the reader to
understand him. Throughout the first four stanzas, Wordsworth continually drives home the separation
between this man and the nature around him. From the inability to fully see nature in the first stanza or
the thought of grief from the third stanza, this separation is always there. It s never a negative thing.
Wordsworth doesn t imply

The Reign Of Elizabeth I
The reign of Elizabeth I is often thought of as a Golden Age. It was a time of extravagance and luxury
in which a flourishing popular culture was expressed through writers such as Shakespeare, and
explorers like Drake and Raleigh sought to expand England s territory overseas. This sense of well
being was embodied by Queen Elizabeth who liked to wear sumptuous costumes and jewellery, and be
entertained in style at her court. But life in Tudor England did not always reflect such splendour. The
sixteenth century was also a time when the poor became poorer, books and opinions were censored,
and plots to overthrow the Queen were rife. Elizabeth s ministers had to employ spies and even use
torture to gain information about threats to her life. In 1558 the Protestant preacher John Knox wrote,
It is more than a monster in nature that a woman should reign and bear empire over man. So was he
right? Were women fit to rule the country? The people had lived through the unpopular reign of Mary
I, known as Bloody Mary for her merciless persecution of Protestants. Lady Jane Grey was Queen for
only a matter of days before being toppled and eventually executed. And Mary Queen of Scots made a
series of ill judged decisions which led her to the executioner s block in 1587. Elizabeth could be as
ruthless and calculating as any King before her. Elizabeth was a different kind of Queen: quick witted,
clever and able to use feminine wiles to get her own way. Elizabeth could be as

The Importance Of Fresh Water Invertebrates
Fresh water invertebrates rely on many things to help them survive in the river and other bodies of
water. The water quality must be the right pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen levels and conductivity
levels in the water for the invertebrates to survive. Fresh water invertebrates are important for the
ecosystem as they feed on mosses on the rocks and provide food for predators to keep the ecosystem
together. Water quality is important because if it is poor then the animals, not only livestock but
domestic pets, will be affected by it because they would drink from the river. Not only do animals
drink from it but water is also extracted from this river for human consumption as drinking water,
therefore if diseases get in to water it can also have consequences on humans as well as animals. (find
evidence) The quality of the water can affect the way in which the ecosystem can change as if the
water quality becomes poor then this can influence not only the invertebrates themselves but those
species that eat these invertebrates (Wren Stephenson, 1991). Therefore, the whole food chain would
be broken as the predators would have nothing to eat so would then they will also start to die. By
monitoring what freshwater invertebrates are in each section of the river, we can check what the water
quality in the water is like as certain invertebrates survive in different conditions (look up what
invertebrates survive better in acid and alkaline water). The area around the river Plym is

Henry Viii And The Succession
From 1533 to 1553 the succession line in England dismembered itself into a churning goblet of
contrasting egos. (hook) One minute Henry VIII was declaring his first born child a Bastard and his
second child, the rightful ruler of England, the next minute he swore that both were bastards, and
therefore needed to make a formal will. By doing this, Henry VIII had the unusual opportunity to
choose his successor(s). First in line would be his new son, then his bastard daughters who would be
named legitimate heirs to the throne if needed. After them, Frances Grey would inherit the title. This
left Lady Jane Grey fourth in line to the throne. In the succession acts, that Henry VIII also passed
before Edward VI could declare his will, Henry made it very clear that if another person were to
interrupt his line of succession, he or she would be executed for treason. It appeared to England as if
Jane was digging her heels into Henry s succession in 1553 when she took the throne; disrupting the
succession and committing treason. They would execute her for this.(discussion) People today should
consider Lady Jane Grey to be just as heroic and brave as we have realized Joan of Arc to be. (thesis)
From Jane s exceptional dedication to learning, to how she compares to other rulers that came after
her, it becomes evident that Jane s parents, The Duke of Northumberland, and Henry VIII robbed their
country of another elegant lasting female ruler, rather than Jane being the one who was

The world has many if not endless methods and techniques for demonstrating those specially dear a

Anyhow, sonnet 130 expresses the speakers affection by portraying the real person that he loves and

Analysis Of The Show One Tree Hill

the gradual development of a person and who they become. Sophia Bush plays the character, Brooke

Bush says her favorite part of the character she plays is her evolution . She starts off as a stereotypical
teenage cheerleader who seeks to be the center of attention and her happiness revolves around money.
Throughout the beginning of the series, Brooke is a young, carefree girl who is rambunctious. She
constantly went to parties and had many sexual relations with numerous amounts of boys. Emily
states, I hated her in the beginning because she was always trying to stir the pot, always creating
drama. Even though it may have appeared her life was not complicated, the many obstacles she faced
helped her transition from childhood to adulthood. She grows into a more sophisticated and grounded
young woman. Brooke Davis is introduced as the captain of the cheerleading team. She has a strong
friendship with Peyton Sawyer, who she calls her best friend. They have been best friends since

started to resemble more of a sister like relationship. Their friendship has always been very strong

Reasons of Onetel debacle
There are a number of factors behind the debacle of Onetel Telecommunication Company. The main
reasons behind the collapse were unfulfilled duties of directors and management, unsatisfactory role
of auditors, inadequacy in internal controls of directors and inappropriate management of

Failures of management and directors duties

Comparison Between Friedrich Nietzsche And Dr. Martin...
Whether or not you agree with their views, both Friedrich Nietzsche and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
were great, highly influential men. Their views, though radically different, impacted the world in the
greatest of ways, altering history for many nations. While Nietzsche, a German philosopher from the
1800s, spoke from a materialistic point of view, believing that there is no god and that all that exists is
matter, King, a civil rights activist of the 1900s, spoke from the belief in transcendence, that there is
indeed a god, and that he exists in a divine realm outside of this universe. But not only do these men
differ in their backgrounds and religious beliefs, they differ radically in how they believe society
should function. In Nietzsche s writings, he promoted a system that emphasizes will to power. He
believed that an aristocracy was the basis for a great society. King, on the other hand, promoted a
system of equality and justice. He thought all men were created equal, and that society should reflect
that belief. The writings of these men have come to be studied by people everywhere. They are so
influential, in fact, that one of them played an incredible role in getting our society to the point that it
is today.
As stated previously, Nietzsche s work was both great and highly influential. The Nazis even used his
writings as a basis for their beliefs. Nietzsche believed that the greatest societies were always built
upon the aristocratic system. Since he believed there

A Scar to Remember
New York City, summer of 2007, I got out of the car and inhaled the stale air. I rushed to the entrance
with my luggage and opened the door of the washed out red sky high building. After my family and I
entered the building and we serenely walked over to the elevator and I pushed the button until it
flashed luminous red. I was thrilled I was going to see my cousins after such a long time. The last time
we were together was when I used to live there. We moved to Massachusetts when I was two years
old. I was wondering what this place had in store for me and if this is going to be the best summer
vacation or not. But what will happen to me became a scar that will always be with me forever. The
bell went off and the elevator doors opened on the sixth floor. I took a left and went straight until I
saw the door that opened to their apartment. I knocked on the door extremely exhilarated feeling like
my head would pop off my neck. When my aunt unlocked and opened up the door, she saw us and was
utterly shocked. SURPRISE! She came out of the apartment and gave all of us a hug as well as our
cousins and after welcomed us into their home. My cousin asks me Why did you suddenly come to
New York? I verbalized Why you don t want us here? She then replied No that is not what I meant. We
traveled here because as you know it is summer break and we thought about visiting you and, wanted
to give you a massive surprise. The last day of

Outdoor Graduation
Do you remember the day you graduated from high school? Do you recall the joy and happiness you
experienced when you stepped up on that stage to receive your diploma? in general, students look
forward to the day they graduate high school. Where the students have their graduation ceremonies
has been debated by students for many years. Although outdoor graduations may cost more than
indoor and require a lot more effort, they could be worth a student s time and money in the end. That
is why an outdoor graduation should be a student s first choice over an indoor graduation. First off, an
outdoor graduation should be a student s first choice because it would allow more people to attend the
ceremony. for example, if a graduating class consists of more than 500 people, then there would be
limited space at an indoor graduation for students and families. At an outdoor graduation, space is an
available resource and more people would be able to attend. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For many years in Gateway, high school students pay class dues throughout their high school career in
order to ultimately afford an outdoor graduation. The money would cover most of the expenses
required to set up for an outdoor ceremony. Some students in Gateway argue that this is a waste of
money because it doesn t matter where we graduate, as long as we receive our diploma. I think it does
matter, because a high school student only graduates once, and graduation should be a memorable
experience. And where would you rather make good memories? Inside, where you have limited space
and where less family members could share the joy with you, or outside on a beautiful summer day

The elven hero was fighting a goblin half his size who was only armed with a mace that looked like it

The elven hero ultimately won the duel, but he had been severely wounded which meant the ground

When Claudia asked me to participate in her senior project, i immediately said i would help her out. I

The Secret Of The Undergraduate Program
Guiding Undergraduate Students
The secret in education lies in respecting the student. The role of the undergraduate program is to
understand what is being learned in the classroom, and taking it out of the educational structure. As
professionals, it is significant to have an outreach where the students are involved, can learn around
the student experience, are guided into real life jobs, and have a mentor who will be an advocate for
them. The foremost goal is trying to make the students more involved. If we can set up an
environment of positivity and influence, formerly, we can set the groundwork for their development in
the professional world. The professionalism that we put forth, and setting examples, that if their name
is attached to it, that it should be done to the best of their abilities; that there are no excuses not to give
all they have towards their goals.
Furthermore, making sure their experience and involvement in the school has reached beyond just
success in classes, nonetheless, finding success in their careers of choice. The message we should
stress, is learning as the primary activity and goal of the college environment; learning to challenge
the status quo while becoming innovators. In other words, the priority should be to set up a
comfortable environment where the students will be able to grow beyond what they learn. It should be
our job to give them this environment where they are comfortable to talk about almost any subject
manor. Additionally,

The Decline Of Reading In The US
People today have lost interest in reading. Otis Kramer says in The Decline of Reading in the U.S.
Damages Our Intellectual Life, For the first time in modern history, less than half of the adult
population now reads literature. When children are not taught to enjoy reading they carry that through
life which causes problems that are hard to fix later in life. There is a loss of interest in reading
because of schools, parents and technology. This can cause problems with intellect and mental states.
Parents can solve this, if they teach their children to enjoy reading early on. The lack of interest in
reading is due to many things, but tends to begin with young children. Schools and parents do not
encourage their children to read for fun (Charleston). Parents do so because they were not taught to
enjoy reading, or they do not have time. Schools, on the other hand, create an environment where
reading becomes more of a chore than a fun activity (Denby). Schools do try to teach kids to enjoy
reading, teachers will set times or page numbers for their students to read. A study on this method has
shown that when told to only read a set amount of time or pages, children will only read the amount
required by the teachers. The things that children read are normally not something they chose. This
decision creates a hatred for reading in children, even if they loved to read before. In many case, such
as assignments make the students hate the book they have just read, no matter how

User Profiling: A Survey from Modeling to Personalization Abstract The growth of the available
information on the web and the diversity of its users is a valuable resource for personalization. The

generation of an initial user profile for a new user and the continuous update of the profile information

how user profiles can be constructed that accurately reflects users preferences. User profiling

Is The Great Gatsby Really Great
Is Gatsby Really Great?
What makes someone great? What makes them remembered as being great? Or, how did they become
great? One way to answer these questions is first know what the word great actually means. Great: the
ability to make others see oneself differently or above the rest in class as well as being prestigious; or
being fairly well off from the average person. As the qualities are described previously, it can be seen
that the novel The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, has one man that can fit this very
pristine and prestigious status. That man is James Gatz, but everyone knows him as Gatsby, Jay
Gatsby. He is resourceful; he is honorable, and he is praised. Because of these reasons some may
critique and find some unsettling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a bootlegger during the Roaring 20 s time period was illegal under the Constitution of the
United States of America. Many readers can t see Gatsby as a successful criminal, because he is too
romantic, too idealistic, and too naive to be a criminal success (Pauly). As a result, Fitzgerald had to
[cloak] his gangster in mystery, and by having Gatsby redirect Nick s questions, it hints at the fact that
Gatsby [...] may be more dangerous than Nick realizes (Pauly). Yes Gatsby is a bootlegger, but it
doesn t mean he s not a decent guy. In fact I feel that he is quite honorable. When Gatsby was taking
Daisy back home, he let her drive his yellow car. As a result, Daisy keep her foot on the gas, and when
she hit Myrtle (who ran out to stop the car and talk with Tom, but Tom wasn t driving or even in the
car) she just kept driving without even looking back. When Nick was going home, after leaving tom s
house, he spotted Gatsby by the bushes, and stopped to talk. They started talking about the accident
when Nick realises Daisy was the one who hit Myrtle. He asks and Gatsby replies with, Yes [...] but of
course I ll say I was. Gatsby then tells Nick that, I m just going to wait here and see if he tries to
bother her about that... (143 144). This shows Gatsby as honorable in two ways: 1. He s willing to
sacrifice himself for Daisy if it comes to it; 2. He s willing to watch Daisy and see that she stays safe.
This proves that Gatsby is much less of a bad person than some give him credit. What bootlegger
would want to sacrifice his whole life and reputation for a single girl not many would. This makes
Gatsby great; though some people see him as a bootlegger, it can also be seen that he has a strong and
large heart making him a soft bootlegger. Great people might have done some dark business, but in the
end they always know what s true to their

There are so many impressive places in New York City, but if I really want to choose a most favorable
landscape in this city. That s Central Park. In this city where everything is so fast paced and it seem
everyone have pressures on their business and the stress of their daily life, but Central Park just like a
beautiful and picturesque oasis in the middle of this city where people can go to relax, running, ice

Nuclear War Research Paper
Instate violence has decreased in recent decades when it comes to nuclear war, but small arms war is
still wide spread. More wars have had the use of guns than the use of nuclear weapons. More people
have been killed in wars because of guns than because of nuclear weapons. However, more people can
be killed in an instant by nuclear weapons whereas when you use a gun, more people can be killed in a
span of a few months. It is also easier and cheaper to get a gun than it is to make and use a nuclear
weapon. Terrorists are scary with a gun or a box cutter, but imagining ISIS or Al Qaeda with a nuclear
weapon would cause the utmost terror across America.
Liberalists and their conflicts are driven by issues like scarcity and survivability. An example would
be Hugo Chavez s regime in Venezuela. They fight over access to resources or control of the
government. Realists believe that you cannot trust anyone in an anarchic society. Problems with
realistic theory lay on factors of offensive and defensive advantage and the ability to tell the difference
between those two. Some examples would be WWI and the use of the machine gun and how no one

European Colonialism In The Film Pelo Malo
We often villainize the countries of Latin America, making them out as lands filled with violent, less
civilized, poor people. Those who are uneducated about Latin America and the culture may apply the
things they know about one culture in Latin America or the Caribbean to other countries in the area.
We don t realize that some of the stereotypes are directly influenced by the legacies left by European
colonialism. Scholars studying colonialism have determined five colonial legacies that are seen in
many post colonial countries. These colonial legacies are authoritarian government, power of the
Roman Catholic Church, a social hierarchy, economic dependency, and the large landed estate. In the
film Pelo Malo, Junior, a young boy from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wright. They were followed by the Natives and Africans. Both were subject to work under the
Spanish, but African slaves seemingly received harsher treatment. Natives were expected to provide
labor, but this was not to the same degree as the Africans who s fate lie in the hands of their masters.
(Wright, 22 24). This order clearly places people of color below those of European, which is the major
part of the hierarchy that has persisted into the modern era. Though some Latin American societies
have attempted to end this legacy, by egalitarianism in Cuba (Wright, 225) or the creation of the first
black republic in Haiti, many other areas had persisting threads of the legacy weaved into their
peoples everyday lives. In Pelo Malo, the scene in the school shows an example of a society breaking
away from the social hierarchy. During colonial times, only men who were Spaniards or Creoles could
obtain an education. Women or people in a lower class were unable to be educated formally (Wright,
23). However, the film shows the school to be filed with both girls and boys, from a variety of social
classes it seems. There were children who looked like they could have been of full Spanish descent
sitting next to people like Junior who were of mixed race. Having this integration helps break the
expectation of a hierarchy in the children s minds, which may lead to even less use of the hierarchal
social order. The integration shows a separation from the

Social Media And Social Networking Essay
If asked, would you be able to explain what the definition of social media is? Social media is the noun
used to define websites that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social
networking. Now you may wonder, what is the difference in social media and social networking?
Social networking is the practice of expanding the number of one s business and/or social contacts by
making connections through individuals, often through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter,
Google+ and Instagram. (cite) | Statistics show that most children get introduced to cyberbullying
when they fully understand how to use the internet. The majority of children have admitted to
harassing or being bullied on a social media website from the age nine to eighteen. The gender of the
child also makes a difference according to some poles taken. Girls are more likely to spread rumors
through the virtual world, whereas; boys are more expected to comment and post antagonizing
pictures and videos. (good and interesting information to have but the transition from different social
media sites to the bullying paragraph is rapid and just thrown in there) Crazy to think but the birth of
social media was in 1997. The first social media site that everyone can agree actually was social media

Greek Influence On Native American Culture
The Mississippian Culture civilization was quite unique, because the people of this culture built
mounds. These mounds served different purposes, some being used for burial chambers, and others
were built to resemble figures. In these societies, there were many mounds, not just a single one.
Furthermore, these cultures were also invested in trade endeavors, with the Hopewell even engaging
with the Caribbean in trade. Additionally, these societies were involved in fishing, hunting and
agriculture, especially maize agriculture. Also, these societies were skilled in workmanship, producing
artifacts. Some of the skilled workmanship that these groups did were pottery, stonework and copper
work. Also, in these societies, there were social structures, and some mounds were used in religious

The State Of Texas Is Not At Its Best Right Now
Public education in the state of Texas is not at its best right now. Students are not being challenged to
think anymore. As the second most populous state of the United States, I believe that Texas should be
at the top of public education not only in the country, but in the world. We should change how and
what teacher are teaching to students. Now days we go to school to memorize keywords so we can
graduate and get a diploma. After that, some students that don t go to college don t reuse the
information that was taught to them for four years, so basically the schools wasted resources and
money, and students lost time. I believe we can and should strike for greatness and change the public
education system from head to toe. Learning is a fun activity to do and school should not just be about
going to class and learn how to pass an exam or get good grades in a class. Learning is about gaining
knowledge and applying that knowledge to learn and discover new things about that topic. The public
education system in Texas can and should be improved for and by everybody in the state of Texas. A
great man named Nelson Mandela once said Education is the most powerful weapon which you can
use to change the world. Without education we would just be meat and bones working just for

Nonconformism In Manuel Puigan s Kiss Of Spider Woman
In a society governed by straight, cis gender men, the nonconformists have been pushed to the side
and hidden from view. Ashamed by their anomalies, these men have released heteronormative,
patriarchal media to create a conformist society and to label any outsider as strange or other. Although
media about the marginalized exists, they are few and far in between, leaving them to appropriate
other forms of expression. In Manuel Puig s Kiss of Spider Woman, Molina, an effeminate gay man,
recounts the storyline of Jacques Tourner s film, Cat People, through a queer perspective. By
identifying with a nonhuman figure and distorting a heteronormative plotline, Molina recognizes the
animality, or otherness, within himself due to his nonconforming nature. In Molina s narration of
Tourner s film, he often shows admiration towards Irena, a cat person. When introducing her to
Valentín, he expresses that she is not a woman like all the others, indicating her otherness yet
romanticizing her at the same time (Puig 3). She is unlike other women not only because she s non
human but also the heroine (25). This idolization is, furthermore, seen when he bids his cellmate
goodnight. Sweet dreams of Irena, he says, elevating her into an ethereal figure (9). Therefore, Molina
s reverence leads him to place himself in Irena s shoes. Like Irena, he is fond of Oliver because he s
the gentle type, and understanding (17); yet, he loathes the psychiatrist because so does [she],
revealing that his feelings towards the characters are dependent on hers (20). In other instances,
Molina seems to know what Irena is thinking and feeling although the film does not delve into her
mind. He explains how, when seeing Oliver, she [had] such a strong desire to kiss him, on the mouth
(21). Yet, in the film, the viewer is unable to truly know her desires unless they are explicitly said. So,
Molina has assumed her character mentally and emotionally.
However, Molina s identification with Irena is evident in the encounter with the other foreign woman.
In his narration, he explains this scene almost precisely as it is in the film. The only difference is that
Molina can provides a translation for the woman s line. According to

Idealistic realism was showed through the paintings in this time. Idealistic realism was a way of painting people as real as possible, to how they would look like in life. Michelangelo demonstrated this technique through his statue, The David. The Renaissance also focused on what is now called the ideal renaissance man , which was an athletic looking, handsome, and intelligent man. During this time, the Caravel was invented, which was a large boat used mostly for exploration. This was a new way to spread the ideas and also expand territory. These were the same boats that Columbus used to found North America. Another key event during this time was the Spanish Inquisition. Spain decided that they only wanted Catholics in there country so the soon used violence to convert the Muslims and Jews to Catholicism. Soon most of Spain had become Catholic. These are just a few of the characteristics of the Renaissance, which all connect together and in short, shape the decisions of the people of this time. The 15th century was filled with many religious complications and many of the new moral standards and lifestyles were affected by the disasters that occurred in the 14th century. • 3. Christianity Is A Religion Based On The Person And God There are over a billion people in the World who follow and support the Catholic Church. Christianity is a religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Ever since Christianity started to emerge in the mid first century it has only increased in size and became even more powerful now than in the origins of the Religion. Jesus Christ is considered to be the Son of God and through the Bible s scriptures that include many sacred writings of Christianity it has given people hope and more importantly something to believe in. Faith is a huge part of any Religion because that is when you put your complete trust or confidence in someone or something. For Christians our faith is put into the Bible, believing in and worshipping a supreme being, God, and a superhuman, Jesus Christ. The importance to Christianity and to anyone s growth in Christian life can be seen through believing in someone whether human or divine, God as three persons in one divine being, genuine friendship, the sacraments, and Jesus Christ as the fullness of both divinity and humanity. Although Christianity is not for everyone, there are thousands of different kinds of Religion from which an individual can choose to follow. Even though Christianity is one of the biggest Religions in the World there are just some people who either don t believe in Christianity or have a hard time understanding it. Being brought up as a Christian I have put my faith in God s hands as did my family and many others. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When David died she carried on with this idea but she knew she would have to train as a doctor to get the support she needs. In her studies she concentrated on the study of pain and the use of drugs. During her time training as a doctor she worked at a hospice, this was St Joseph s Hospice that was run by Catholic nuns. She became a practising Christian. This was a very good experience because she could talk to real people with real problems of dying. She realised that the last few weeks of a person s life could be the most important. It was time for her ideas to be put into practise in 1959. She put her ideas on paper for a centre for the dying. She knew what she wanted to cal it: St Christopher s Hospice. She chose the name because the dying are travellers to an unknown place (after death) St Christopher is the saint who look after the travellers. A little brief background on Ukraine at the time of Sylvia s youth in 1941 Germany and Romania invaded Ukraine changing the country to Romania, then 1944 Soviet soldier s invaded naming it back to Ukraine, which seems to come full circle to today with the constant battle of Russia attempting to merge Ukraine into Russia for good. It is evident that the Canada government obviously want to stop the Aboriginal people s culture, language, and spirituality. In the story, the normal people living in Waknuks, where David came from, were searching for the abnormal, or the mutants and tried to kill them. Throughout the story, they were very eager to look for David and the rest of his telepathy group to investigate their special powers or even, to kill them. The reason of them really doing so was not because of that the telepathies were actually different, but is due to that they were scared that the telepathies would rule the place as they had special, extraordinary abilities, which normal people did not have. Other than that, normal people certainly did not deserve the rights to destroy mutants just because they were not shaped like God s image, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was obvious that the Waknuks were injustice to the mutants. Being rude and wanting to destroy the mutants was not fair as well. This can be considered as discrimination. Just because they have physical or mental disabilities, or that they do not look how a perfect human should look, they do not deserve to be treated poorly. It is not humane to send all the mutants to live in Fringes and leave them with a poor living condition. Fringes is a place with a relatively higher level of radiation, so deviation was quite common in the place. The Waknuks also think the fringes people (mutants) were a threat to them because they have made raids in civilized areas for food. Children are told that the fringes eat people. This is obviously a story that parents made up to scare them to keep them in line, and I think these stories are told mostly because of the fear because mutants are different. He was a politician and lawyer who served as the sixteenth president of the United States during one of the most controversial times in American history, known as the American Civil War. The Civil War broke out on April 12, 1861, shortly after President Lincoln was inaugurated, in Fort Sumter, South Carolina, and was fought till May 9, 1865, when Robert E. Lincoln honored the Union dead and reminded the listeners of the purpose of the soldier s sacrifice: equality, freedom, and national unity (HistoryNet). The sacrifices of Union soldiers, Lincoln declared, would ensure that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. In the short fiction A good man is hard to find written by Flannery O connor The family goes on a road trip to Florida, and the grandmother doesn t want to go because there is an escaped murderer who is told to be headed to Florida. There are many different views of the story, but most of them revolve around the underlying religious message. The author uses foreshadowing, and irony to show what this story portrays. O connor is from the south and is catholic. The grandmother in the story is a big believer in god, and talks about him a lot throughout. John Desmond says how the title reminds him of a story in the Bible when Christ rebukes Peter when he tried to call him good , and Jesus says that no one should be called good, and how in the story the grandmother continues to call the misfit good (Desmond). Nome, I ain t a good man (191) He knew he wasn t the worst in the world, but he knew he wasn t good. I feel like the misfit wasn t a good man. He brutally murdered this entire family for no reason, other than that they recognized him as the escapee. The grandmother has a strong faith in God and it affects every aspect of her life. The misfit doesn t believe in Jesus and that he threw everything off balance when he claimed to raise the dead. • 13. Innocence And Maturation In Thomas Hart Benton s Persephone Innocence and maturation are two key aspects of the human experience. The innocent mind allows you to live with less doubt and worry but it leaves you vulnerable to manipulation and people taking advantage of you. Thomas Hart Benton s Persephone portrays the myth of Persephone and Hades. The Rape of Persephone goes as so; Zeus gives Persephone to Hades to have as his wife. Persephone is out and about and Hades takes her to the Underworld. A heartbroken Demeter, goddess of harvest and agriculture, Persephone s mom, refuses to grow anything until Persephone returns. Persephone is allowed back but Hades tricks her, making her unable to leave the underworld permanently. Demeter compromises that Persephone can be in the Underworld part of the year but that nothing will grow while her daughter is away, forcing Persephone s return and creating the seasons. Taking a new turn on the ancient myth, Benton sets the painting in a rural scene and illustrates a bare Persephone lying leisurely, surrounded by greenery with Hades and his chariot lurking behind her. The juxtaposition between the foliage, Persephone s nude figure, and the wrinkled Hades in the background creates an imbalance between maturation and sexuality with a blithe young woman caught in the middle. Overall, Benton s Persephone accentuates the bliss of naivete coinciding with the overwhelming malevolence and sexualization present in the world. Initially, Benton s brush strokes dictate the movement of the piece, shaping the foliage around Persephone in a nurturing and purposeful manner. I think this pulls Persephone towards the viewer and draws more attention to her exposure and vulnerability. It also symbolizes Demeter s protective nature and deep seeded love for her daughter. It feels as though the movement of the plant life also creates a barrier of protection between the aloof and defenseless Persephone and the wrinkled and perverted Hades. I believe this determines the importance of protecting the young and naive, especially with an abundance of attention in this world leading to desensitivity, and later sexualization. This reminds me of a speech Emma Watson made to the United Nations where she details how the media began to sexualize her as early as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Uses Of Art And Music In The Art Of Music I perceive art as the unique use of imagination and creativity to express new ideas and thought primarily through media accessible by an audience. Art entails a broad range of activities of creativity designed to convey ideas to readers and listeners with aims of information transfer. An artist uses various methods of expressing ideas such as drawings, paintings, music, and plays. Music specifically is a form of art mostly based on sounds. Music, therefore, entails different sounds played, in particular, a pattern designed to amuse or entertain. Additionally, music adds to the methods of information transfer from sources, usually artists, to an audience. The art of music in many cases gets in place in entertainment purposes following the vivid fact that changing tunes and vibrations of sounds changes emotions and thoughts, which contribute to entertainment through internet. Music adds substantially to changing thoughts and emotions primarily by information exchange whereby an artist presents ideas to an audience in the form of music, in turn, the audience s thoughts and imaginations line significantly to the rhythm of the artist. Art promotes understanding and entertainment based on the different forms of expressing ideas and information that are frequently used. Sometimes, you need a scream. A scream into a void telling it what you think and feel all the while hoping for a scream back. That s what Ode on Intimations of Immortality From Early Childhood by William Wordsworth is, Wordsworth s desperate attempt to scream into the void the best he could. But, what is he trying to say? The title is the first indication of the meaning of the poem. He doesn t say what the thought was or what relived the thought, but it is interesting to note that from the shepherd boy to the lamb to the bird all carry connotations of youth and vibrancy. As we see later on, this connection between youth and nature goes much deeper. The joy felt throughout this stanza is carried over into the fourth stanza where there is a such a vibrant celebration even the very earth is a part of it. During this celebration, he says that it would be an evil day if he were upset right now. This almost suggests that he is unhappy right now and is forcing himself to be happy. It guides the reader to question this happiness and separate the narrator, and in turn themselves, from the scene laid out before them. The distrust is only heightened when from the very trees and flowers themselves a question is whispered. Where is that dream from before? Where did it go? This is how the fourth stanza concludes as it lays the groundwork for the rest of the poem by tying together the first four stanzas. These first four stanzas are used by Wordsworth to prepare the reader to understand him. Throughout the first four stanzas, Wordsworth continually drives home the separation between this man and the nature around him. From the inability to fully see nature in the first stanza or the thought of grief from the third stanza, this separation is always there. It s never a negative thing. Wordsworth doesn t imply ... • 16. The Reign Of Elizabeth I The reign of Elizabeth I is often thought of as a Golden Age. It was a time of extravagance and luxury in which a flourishing popular culture was expressed through writers such as Shakespeare, and explorers like Drake and Raleigh sought to expand England s territory overseas. This sense of well being was embodied by Queen Elizabeth who liked to wear sumptuous costumes and jewellery, and be entertained in style at her court. But life in Tudor England did not always reflect such splendour. The sixteenth century was also a time when the poor became poorer, books and opinions were censored, and plots to overthrow the Queen were rife. Elizabeth s ministers had to employ spies and even use torture to gain information about threats to her life. In 1558 the Protestant preacher John Knox wrote, It is more than a monster in nature that a woman should reign and bear empire over man. So was he right? Were women fit to rule the country? The people had lived through the unpopular reign of Mary I, known as Bloody Mary for her merciless persecution of Protestants. Lady Jane Grey was Queen for only a matter of days before being toppled and eventually executed. And Mary Queen of Scots made a series of ill judged decisions which led her to the executioner s block in 1587. Elizabeth could be as ruthless and calculating as any King before her. • 17. The Importance Of Fresh Water Invertebrates Fresh water invertebrates rely on many things to help them survive in the river and other bodies of water. The water quality must be the right pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen levels and conductivity levels in the water for the invertebrates to survive. Fresh water invertebrates are important for the ecosystem as they feed on mosses on the rocks and provide food for predators to keep the ecosystem together. Water quality is important because if it is poor then the animals, not only livestock but domestic pets, will be affected by it because they would drink from the river. Not only do animals drink from it but water is also extracted from this river for human consumption as drinking water, therefore if diseases get in to water it can also have consequences on humans as well as animals. (find evidence) The quality of the water can affect the way in which the ecosystem can change as if the water quality becomes poor then this can influence not only the invertebrates themselves but those species that eat these invertebrates (Wren Stephenson, 1991). Therefore, the whole food chain would be broken as the predators would have nothing to eat so would then they will also start to die. By monitoring what freshwater invertebrates are in each section of the river, we can check what the water quality in the water is like as certain invertebrates survive in different conditions (look up what invertebrates survive better in acid and alkaline water). • 18. Henry Viii And The Succession From 1533 to 1553 the succession line in England dismembered itself into a churning goblet of contrasting egos. (hook) One minute Henry VIII was declaring his first born child a Bastard and his second child, the rightful ruler of England, the next minute he swore that both were bastards, and therefore needed to make a formal will. By doing this, Henry VIII had the unusual opportunity to choose his successor(s). First in line would be his new son, then his bastard daughters who would be named legitimate heirs to the throne if needed. After them, Frances Grey would inherit the title. This left Lady Jane Grey fourth in line to the throne. In the succession acts, that Henry VIII also passed before Edward VI could declare his will, Henry made it very clear that if another person were to interrupt his line of succession, he or she would be executed for treason. It appeared to England as if Jane was digging her heels into Henry s succession in 1553 when she took the throne; disrupting the succession and committing treason. They would execute her for this.(discussion) People today should consider Lady Jane Grey to be just as heroic and brave as we have realized Joan of Arc to be. Whether or not you agree with their views, both Friedrich Nietzsche and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. were great, highly influential men. Their views, though radically different, impacted the world in the greatest of ways, altering history for many nations. While Nietzsche, a German philosopher from the 1800s, spoke from a materialistic point of view, believing that there is no god and that all that exists is matter, King, a civil rights activist of the 1900s, spoke from the belief in transcendence, that there is indeed a god, and that he exists in a divine realm outside of this universe. But not only do these men differ in their backgrounds and religious beliefs, they differ radically in how they believe society should function. In Nietzsche s writings, he promoted a system that emphasizes will to power. He believed that an aristocracy was the basis for a great society. King, on the other hand, promoted a system of equality and justice. He thought all men were created equal, and that society should reflect that belief. The writings of these men have come to be studied by people everywhere. They are so influential, in fact, that one of them played an incredible role in getting our society to the point that it is today. After I did the two paintings, I knew it wasn t finished. The two canvases I painted looked too lonely. I needed to paint at least two more but i was stuck, staring at an empty canvas that was waiting to be filled with colors. • 28. The Decline Of Reading In The US People today have lost interest in reading. Otis Kramer says in The Decline of Reading in the U.S. Damages Our Intellectual Life, For the first time in modern history, less than half of the adult population now reads literature. When children are not taught to enjoy reading they carry that through life which causes problems that are hard to fix later in life. There is a loss of interest in reading because of schools, parents and technology. This can cause problems with intellect and mental states. Parents can solve this, if they teach their children to enjoy reading early on. The lack of interest in reading is due to many things, but tends to begin with young children. Schools and parents do not encourage their children to read for fun (Charleston). Parents do so because they were not taught to enjoy reading, or they do not have time. Schools, on the other hand, create an environment where reading becomes more of a chore than a fun activity (Denby). Schools do try to teach kids to enjoy reading, teachers will set times or page numbers for their students to read. A study on this method has shown that when told to only read a set amount of time or pages, children will only read the amount required by the teachers. The things that children read are normally not something they chose. This decision creates a hatred for reading in children, even if they loved to read before. In many case, such as assignments make the students hate the book they have just read, no matter how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Is The Great Gatsby Really Great Is Gatsby Really Great? What makes someone great? What makes them remembered as being great? Or, how did they become great? One way to answer these questions is first know what the word great actually means. Great: the ability to make others see oneself differently or above the rest in class as well as being prestigious; or being fairly well off from the average person. As the qualities are described previously, it can be seen that the novel The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, has one man that can fit this very pristine and prestigious status. That man is James Gatz, but everyone knows him as Gatsby, Jay Gatsby. He is resourceful; he is honorable, and he is praised. Because of these reasons some may critique and find some unsettling ... Many readers can t see Gatsby as a successful criminal, because he is too romantic, too idealistic, and too naive to be a criminal success (Pauly). As a result, Fitzgerald had to [cloak] his gangster in mystery, and by having Gatsby redirect Nick s questions, it hints at the fact that Gatsby [...] may be more dangerous than Nick realizes (Pauly). Yes Gatsby is a bootlegger, but it doesn t mean he s not a decent guy. In fact I feel that he is quite honorable. When Gatsby was taking Daisy back home, he let her drive his yellow car. As a result, Daisy keep her foot on the gas, and when she hit Myrtle (who ran out to stop the car and talk with Tom, but Tom wasn t driving or even in the car) she just kept driving without even looking back. When Nick was going home, after leaving tom s house, he spotted Gatsby by the bushes, and stopped to talk. They started talking about the accident when Nick realises Daisy was the one who hit Myrtle. He asks and Gatsby replies with, Yes [...] but of course I ll say I was. Gatsby then tells Nick that, I m just going to wait here and see if he tries to bother her about that... (143 144). This shows Gatsby as honorable in two ways: 1. He s willing to sacrifice himself for Daisy if it comes to it; 2. He s willing to watch Daisy and see that she stays safe. This proves that Gatsby is much less of a bad person than some give him credit. What bootlegger would want to sacrifice his whole life and reputation for a single girl not many would. This makes Gatsby great; though some people see him as a bootlegger, it can also be seen that he has a strong and large heart making him a soft bootlegger. More wars have had the use of guns than the use of nuclear weapons. More people have been killed in wars because of guns than because of nuclear weapons. However, more people can be killed in an instant by nuclear weapons whereas when you use a gun, more people can be killed in a span of a few months. It is also easier and cheaper to get a gun than it is to make and use a nuclear weapon. Terrorists are scary with a gun or a box cutter, but imagining ISIS or Al Qaeda with a nuclear weapon would cause the utmost terror across America. Liberalists and their conflicts are driven by issues like scarcity and survivability. An example would be Hugo Chavez s regime in Venezuela. We don t realize that some of the stereotypes are directly influenced by the legacies left by European colonialism. Both were subject to work under the Spanish, but African slaves seemingly received harsher treatment. Natives were expected to provide labor, but this was not to the same degree as the Africans who s fate lie in the hands of their masters. (Wright, 22 24). This order clearly places people of color below those of European, which is the major part of the hierarchy that has persisted into the modern era. Though some Latin American societies have attempted to end this legacy, by egalitarianism in Cuba (Wright, 225) or the creation of the first black republic in Haiti, many other areas had persisting threads of the legacy weaved into their peoples everyday lives. In Pelo Malo, the scene in the school shows an example of a society breaking away from the social hierarchy. During colonial times, only men who were Spaniards or Creoles could obtain an education. Women or people in a lower class were unable to be educated formally (Wright, 23). However, the film shows the school to be filed with both girls and boys, from a variety of social classes it seems. There were children who looked like they could have been of full Spanish descent sitting next to people like Junior who were of mixed race. Social media is the noun used to define websites that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Now you may wonder, what is the difference in social media and social networking? Social networking is the practice of expanding the number of one s business and/or social contacts by making connections through individuals, often through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Instagram. (cite) | Statistics show that most children get introduced to cyberbullying when they fully understand how to use the internet. The majority of children have admitted to harassing or being bullied on a social media website from the age nine to eighteen. The gender of the child also makes a difference according to some poles taken. Girls are more likely to spread rumors through the virtual world, whereas; boys are more expected to comment and post antagonizing pictures and videos. As the second most populous state of the United States, I believe that Texas should be at the top of public education not only in the country, but in the world. We should change how and what teacher are teaching to students. Now days we go to school to memorize keywords so we can graduate and get a diploma. After that, some students that don t go to college don t reuse the information that was taught to them for four years, so basically the schools wasted resources and money, and students lost time. • 41. Nonconformism In Manuel Puigan s Kiss Of Spider Woman In a society governed by straight, cis gender men, the nonconformists have been pushed to the side and hidden from view. Ashamed by their anomalies, these men have released heteronormative, patriarchal media to create a conformist society and to label any outsider as strange or other. Although media about the marginalized exists, they are few and far in between, leaving them to appropriate other forms of expression. In Manuel Puig s Kiss of Spider Woman, Molina, an effeminate gay man, recounts the storyline of Jacques Tourner s film, Cat People, through a queer perspective. By identifying with a nonhuman figure and distorting a heteronormative plotline, Molina recognizes the animality, or otherness, within himself due to his nonconforming nature. In Molina s narration of Tourner s film, he often shows admiration towards Irena, a cat person. When introducing her to Valentín, he expresses that she is not a woman like all the others, indicating her otherness yet romanticizing her at the same time (Puig 3). She is unlike other women not only because she s non human but also the heroine (25). This idolization is, furthermore, seen when he bids his cellmate goodnight. Sweet dreams of Irena, he says, elevating her into an ethereal figure (9). Therefore, Molina s reverence leads him to place himself in Irena s shoes. Like Irena, he is fond of Oliver because he s the gentle type, and understanding (17); yet, he loathes the psychiatrist because so does [she], revealing that his feelings towards the characters are dependent on hers (20). In other instances, Molina seems to know what Irena is thinking and feeling although the film does not delve into her mind. He explains how, when seeing Oliver, she [had] such a strong desire to kiss him, on the mouth (21). Yet, in the film, the viewer is unable to truly know her desires unless they are explicitly said. So, Molina has assumed her character mentally and emotionally. However, Molina s identification with Irena is evident in the encounter with the other foreign woman.
