The Effects of War on Society
How is the subject of war perceived through a historical point of view? John Wilson approaches the
question of whether the subject of war is an important influence in his work And in the Morning.
Wilson proficiently demonstrates the influential importance of the subject of war by addressing the
historical perspective in his novel. The most considerable effects from war are to an individual, it can
change how a person thinks as shown in Wilson s work. Many soldiers experience dramatic events in
their life which they cannot handle mentally and sometimes physically as portrayed in Wilson s work.
As one of the main characters in the novel, Jim Hay experience a traumatic event, where he nearly
loses his mind and starts hallucinating when he says, The black dog is back, I slept and he returned,
but this time the dream finished (Wilson 184). The character, Jim was not mentally prepared to handle
his best friend s death, and thus slowly losing his mind, clearly showing the effects of war on soldiers.
Just as how many people are not mentally prepared for traumatic events, people can be swept up in the
war itself and be completely blind to the consequences. As stated by CM Magazine Hay s experience
allows the reader to understand how someone could be swept up in a war frenzy, and then kept in a
state of continuing uncertainty (Gregor). The article demonstrates how both the reader and the
character itself can portray how one can think they know where they are, but in reality,

The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu Essay
The protagonist of the book The Tale of Genji, was a factious character named Genji who was
certainly a legendary figure. His countless intimate relationships with a variety of women were truly
unbelievable by modern standards. It is easy for the readers to notice the amorous character of Genji.
However, behind this certain image, there were surely some other noticeable traits of him through his
affairs with some of the important women in his life. For instance, he was brave and treated the
women he loved with sincere and courtesy; moreover, when it came to women, he was sort of an
unrealistic perfectionist. Nonetheless, sometimes he could also be selfish for his own interest without
taking other s ideas and feelings into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, those women would be sadly abandoned and forgotten as time passed by. However, that
was not the case for Genji. Genji could easily fall for a woman in a short period of time. However, at
least at the moment, he genuinely cared about those women and sometimes felt sad for them as he
could not make any commitments to them. His relationship with the lady Sixth Avenue is an example.
After Genji s intense emotion for Sixth Avenue decreased, he still thought of her from time to time,
wondering if she was getting on well enough. Even though he knew that his wife Aoi s death was
partially caused by Sixth Avenue, he still would not forget about her. Of course, he was mad at her at
first, but as time went by, he gradually let go of the rage and started feeling bad for her since she was
all alone. He even attempted several times to visit her and ask for forgiveness as he often neglected
her feelings. Sixth Avenue rejected him at first because she decided to break off all relations with
Genji. Nonetheless, she was moved by his genuineness eventually and agreed to accept his apology
with an open heart. The incident served as an example of the fact that Genji was truly a genuine man,
through he was amorous.
However, apart from his positive characters, Genji sometimes could

shaping our great nation than the battle of Yorktown. Think of the Revolutionary War, visions of
guerrilla like hit and run tactics of the minute men causing confusion and exhaustion to the neat

The Stages Of Piaget s Development Theory
This essay is concerned with the Concrete Operational Stage of Piaget s development theory, which he
described as a major turning point in a child s cognitive development as it is the beginning of logical
thought processes (Piaget, 1954). This typically occurs between seven and eleven years of age. It will
describe the developmental tests used to evidence development and evaluate the strengths and
weakness of the theory in relation to the stage and tests used. During this stage, children develop and
are able to use logical reasoning as long as it can be applied to concrete and specific examples they are
familiar with, such as their own experiences and people, places and objects they know and have
experienced however, abstract thought and what if scenarios are still beyond their thinking. They are
able to understand conservation, which Mcleod.S.A (2010) defines as understanding that something
remains the same even though its appearance changes, which coincides with the development of
reversibility and knowing that numbers/object appearances can be changed and then returned to their
original condition with no lasting effects. It is a mental process which allows the reversal of a chain of
events or restoration of a changed state to original condition (Piaget,J Inhelder,B. 1956). Their
classification skills increase allowing objects to be grouped by mass, weight, height and colour and
class inclusion develops, enabling the child to further separate the classified groups of

The Reluctant Fundamentalist Essay
Fundamentalism is a strict adherence to a set of ideas or beliefs that are conservative in nature. It is a
pejorative term usually associated with religious fanaticism. Usually, this is what comes to mind when
there is mention of a fundamentalist. However, in Mohsin Hamid s The Reluctant Fundamentalist
starring the protagonist Changez, a Pakistani Princetonian who is a top ranked employee at a
prestigious New York valuation firm, turns out not to be an Islamic fundamentalist, but a reluctant
fundamentalist of US Capitalism. Hamid challenges readers to reevaluate their preconceived notions
and prejudices of people different from themselves in post 9/11 America by employing the use of

Hamid, through his choice of names, brilliantly doubles his characters as motifs. All the significant
characters have a symbolic identity and thus, he is simultaneously telling two stories, but not in the
traditional sense expected of a frame story, for this is not a story within a story, but rather, a story
behind a story. The frame takes Changez back to the past, but when he finishes retelling the past, the
frame is no more and the reader is back in the present. Therefore, when the past is put in conjunction
with the happenings in the cafe, only one story is being told. The second story is conveyed through the
interaction of the motifs and requires a little intuition (not that much) on the reader s part to decipher
its meaning. In using the motifs to convey a variety of messages, the relationship between Changez
and Erica is especially saturated with clues of their secret identities. Erica had only one previous lover,
Chris, her childhood sweetheart who died of cancer in late adolescence and whom she is never able to
let go. Initially, she was severely depressed but eventually recovered from the ordeal. However, as
Erica s intimacy with Changez grows, so does her feeling of nostalgia. The September 11 attacks
triggers a relapse in Erica and she becomes more and more obsessed with Chris. She rejects Changez
physically and is only able to have sex with him when they pretend

Introduction
Fitness and muscle model athletes are often benchmarked as the embodiment of physical perfection
(Sundgot Borgen et al., 2011). That being said, not all athletes have, or believe that they have, bodies
adapted to the paradigm of their specific sport (Sundgot Borgen et al., 2011). These athletes may often
experience pressure to achieve this absolute ideal body type. Athletes competing in aesthetic sports
such as gymnasts, figure skaters, divers, bodybuilders experience greater pressure to reduce weight
than athletes competing in sports in which lean body mass aesthetic are less important (Drinkwater et
al., 2005). Within this class of athletes judged on aestheticism, fitness and muscle models are a class
whom are noted for dieting down to extremely low level of body fat to display muscle. There appears
to be a rise in competitive fitness and muscle model shows and the goal to emulate if not a sporting
aesthetic which will appeal domestically and commercially. (Scott et al., 2013).
As a result of growing interest in this field of sport, there are few federations/organizations that are

Test Taking Strategies
Test Taking Strategies
For 10 years, I was the one testing the students, teaching strategies and finding new ones to help
students study. Suddenly, I found myself returning to school and the anxiety, stress, lack of time, and
just all the unknowns seemed to overwhelm my life. The last couple of years I have learned to
incorporate strategies that work best for me, but there is always room for improvement and
strengthening. Learning, study and test taking skills are some of the most important things to have
when furthering your education. Upon reading Strategies for Test Success by Linda Anne Silvestri, I

By using this strategy instead of trying to memorize text out of a book, one should have to spend less
time studying and more information should be retained. (Kaplan Nursing: Lipponcott)
Test Strategies Not so Helpful
There are so many strategy recommendations for students. While each have good points, some are
more helpful than others. Strategies that don t seem as helpful to me are simulating actual test like
circumstances when studying for the exam, study groups, note taking by using the fancy systems.
These three strategies just seem to increase my stress level to the point I feel like I am not learning.
Simulating actual test like circumstances has just never worked for me as I usually don t pick the
correct information to test myself on and the important information gets left behind. Study groups
cause me too much pressure because I find that one or two people seem to be putting the study guides
together. This is a pet peeve for me; I don t mind sharing my ideas but don t expect me to do all the
work and then hand it to you. The final one that has never worked for me is taking notes by using one
of the many note taking systems. I find myself spending too much time trying to remember what
needs to be written where, organizing, how to fold the paper. I have developed my own crazy way of
taking notes over the years. Note taking is an area that I feel is individualize for each

A Wicked Genius Essay
A Wicked Genius There have been countless unnatural casualties around the world, caused by foreign
affairs, extreme ideologies, or even the occasional unfaithful spouse. Being able to infer an
appropriate conclusion to the downfall of flight TWA 800, had been a pressing issue for the
government for a time. Many conclusions were proposed and rejected, elaborate theories were created
and squandered, but one man should stand out like a sore thumb. Ramzi Yousef, the bomb making
mastermind of Al Qaeda, might have had more to do with the unfortunate incident than most might
believe. A man of many identities, Yousef was at the pinnacle of America s most wanted terrorists list
and he was the center piece of Al Qaeda. Dubbed the Mozart of terror by Lance, Yousef grew up in the
Kuwaiti oil city of Fuhayhil and acquired his engineering degree in the United Kingdom. Shortly
afterwards, Yousef left for the early al Qaeda training camps and learned the ins and outs of building
improvised explosive devices. Osama bin Laden began to take notice of his bomb making expertise
and recruited him to be his chief point man on terror. Bin Laden and Yousef began their plots of
destruction early in the 1990s, with plans to bomb the world trade center. As bloodthirsty and
conniving as al Qaeda were, it is not surprising to consider placing the responsibility of the fall of
TWA 800 onYousef, they had the skills and resources to accomplish the deed, but could there not be

Batman s female counterpart joins the famous duo from Gotham City, as The Batgirl makes her very

that has comic book action at its very core. The game is only boosted by the addition of several bonus

in mind, its not surprise to see this game being so hotly discussed on the world s online casino forums.

Playing Batman and The Batgirl Bonanza is slightly different than what we are used to. The first and

symbol appears on the last three reels. A short and skippable clip from the show is played and the

Review Of The Guns Of Navarone, River Of Death, Break...
The Development of Major Characters in Alistair Maclean Novels British author Alistair Maclean
once declared, We are all brave men and we are all afraid, and what the world calls a brave man, he is
too brave and afraid like the all rest of us. Only he is brave for five minutes longer. Throughout his
novels, The Guns of Navarone, River of Death, Break Heart Pass, Maclean puts his characters through
a grueling set of challenges, which they must face with bravery and intellect. Bravery is a recurring
concept in MacLean s novels. Yet, Maclean places more emphasis on how the character develops
through these conflicts. The conflicts that Maclean displays are physically, as well as mentally

Maclean uses the recurring climatic challenges as his own special trademarks the threat of impersonal
climatic forces (Lee 362). The added trademark combines with the dangers of the plot to force the
protagonist through a gauntlet of dangers in order to complete the mission. The recurring trademark is
evident in almost all Maclean novels, as the climactic forces are directly responsible for almost all the
challenges the protagonist must face during the rising action. The forces are not limited to freezing
temperatures and roaring oceans but they are also in the form of dense, lush, and dangerous rain
forests as seen in River of Death. In River of Death, the protagonist as well as other major characters
must also face an array of environmental conflicts, primarily, the lush and dangerous Amazonian river
system and forest surrounding. Hamilton, the protagonist, is a brave and respected man, However,
after many years of entering the dense rainforest and returning with ancient Greek gold coins, he is
rumored to have found The Lost City. Due to his supposed findings, he has attracted a greedy wealthy
man who is willing to pay a large amount of money for Hamilton to take him and his group to the
fabled gold city. Hamilton agrees and shortly after entering the jungle, the characters are exposed to
the ever present dangers that the Amazon presents. Maclean describes this harsh terrain as tens of
thousands of square miles in that virtually unknown part of the world: all

Age In Instinct Attention Analysis
The role of age in distinct attention mechanisms

Spring 2016
The role of age in distinct attention mechanisms
Attention is known as a behavioral and cognitive process of selectively concentrating awareness on a
specific object, issue, or activity, while not focusing on other potential stimuli from the environment.
While the human brain has great capabilities for processing information, it also has limited capacity. A
person cannot attend to all the information being received through all the five senses at one time. And
this capacity is reduced as people get older. Older people tend to have decreased brain activity in the
the brain areas that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Standardized low resolution brain electromagnetic tomography showed that the age related decline in
preparatory activity was associated with reduced activation of medial and superior frontal gyrus and
anterior cingulate gyrus. The results suggest that age related differences in these prefrontal brain areas
reflect declines in preparatory attention and gating of subsequent task related speech information,
especially under conditions of divided attention. These findings may reflect mechanisms relating to
impaired speech perception by older people in cocktail party listening situations ( Getzman, Golob,
Wascher 7). Older adults also preformed significantly worse than the younger group when they first
had to determine the speaker of the target stimulus, focus their attention on this speaker, and then
identify the target company value among the concurrent values. This nicely reflects the everyday
experiences of elders who often report that they can hear that something has been spoken but cannot

The Battle Of Trenton And The Battle Of Saratoga
The battle of Trenton and the battle of Saratoga brought a crucial victory to the Continental Army, but
the battle of Trenton improved morale in the patriots more so than the battle of Saratoga did. The
battle of Trenton proved to be significant by ultimately turning the tide of the conflict in their favor,
improving morale and hope for the war.
For instance, The battle of Trenton on Christmas Eve in 1776 proved the colonist were dedicated and a
capable force. The colonists were wary about fighting the very powerful Hessian, therefore on
Christmas Eve, they planned a sneak attack to defeat them. The patriots marched and fought in icy and
poor conditions before dawn, hoping to defeat the powerful Hessians. After the surprise attack the
Colonists had totaled 2 dead and 5 wounded. The Hessians had 22 dead and 90 wounded and 918
captured. This victory would change the image of the colonist s army and bring about great change.
After the battle of Trenton, they were now viewed as a definite threat to the British. On the other hand,
the battle of Saratoga gave the colonist hope for the upcoming battles. On October 17th,1777 the
colonist surrounded General Burgoyne and his army continue to hold strong, the army fought until the
British surrendered to the colonist. This was significant for the colonist because the British
surrendered to the colonist. This showed the British that the colonist held up a good fight and that this
war was going to be long and hard. In conclusion, this

Juveniles in the Adult Justice System
Topic: Juveniles do not belong in the Adult Justice System. Authorities who waive Juveniles into the
Adult Justice System are making a devastating impact on their futures
Abstract
This paper is about the most controversial subject in the penal system today, i.e. should juveniles be
treated as adults and be tried in the adult justice system and the negative impact on their lives. This
becomes relevant after the judgment in Roper Vs Simmons (1995) which states that there is a doubt as
to when the adolescent becomes an adult. The paper further analyses whether juveniles are different
from adults and the conclusion arrived at is that the adult world is different from the world of minors
and hence there must be total differentiation between the justice systems for juveniles and adults.
A) Introduction
This paper is an attempt to understand and point out the flaws in the legal system that has of late in
many cases begun to treat juveniles in the same footing as adult offenders. There is a raging
controversy over this move that makes young offenders to be tried and incarcerated just as if the crime
was done by an adult. The arguments over this have been made in the Supreme Court and the land
mark judgement Roper Vs Simmons (1995). However it is submitted that simple observations of the
post procedure effects on young persons have not been verified or recorded properly. If this system
continues, would it not be against the logic of creating the juvenile justice system

Special Needs Cases Essay
Special needs litigation is one of the most common legal issue dealt with in educational circles. IDEA
(Individuals with Disabilities Act) does not define appropriate which leaves the interpretation of an
adequate level of educational services and responsibilities open to a great deal of subjectivity. This
analysis provides a brief summary of special needs cases and the implications for school systems and
educational administrators.
In Cedar Rapids Community School District vs. Garrett F., the parents of a mentally coherent but
wheelchair and ventilator bound student wanted the school district to provide nursing services for their
child so he could attend school. The US Supreme Court decided that it was the school s responsibility

These cases demonstrate the challenges that are brought before educators as they attempt to provide an
appropriate education for each child. Special needs students must be evaluated individually and their
individual education plan must be designed around realistic standards. School systems and
administrators walk a tight rope between adequately meeting the needs of every student and balancing
educational integrity issues with the fiscal budget. In a perfect world, there would be plenty to go
around for everyone and everybody s needs could be met to the fullest. In reality, we are left to
prioritize spending as best we can. Decisions within the schools must be made as quickly as possible
based upon the legal precedents set forth by case law and within the financial constraints of the

The Ecosystem Of The Chesapeake Bay
The Ecosystem
Introduction to Basic Geography
Fig. 1.1
Scene in Fig. 1.1., the Chesapeake Bay is substantial in size; at roughly 64,000 miles, it contains
roughly fifty rivers and thousands of streams and creeks. It encompasses parts of 6 states, including all
of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bay is what is known as a watershed, an area that contributes to
the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within the 64,000 square
miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams and rivers, eventually
making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States.
The Estuary System
An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward and
ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An
estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the best
and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique in
nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans have
attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. There productivity lies it
the constant change that occurs from the conflicting flows of fresh and ocean water. Ocean and
freshwater are measured largely based on salinity, or the level of parts of salt per thousand. Ocean

The Pros and Cons of Reptiles as Pets
How many people can say that they have a pet that has been around, in some form or other, for 300
million years? Reptiles are fascinating animals that have been around since the Carboniferous Period,
300 million years ago. Many different species of reptiles have come and gone over the course of time
and there are five main groups. Turtles and tortoises are distinguished by the presence of their
carapace, or shells, which is also their main defense against predators. Lizards are the most diverse
and varied among the reptiles with many different types from chameleons, to iguanas, to geckos, to
monitor lizards which includes the largest of all lizards; the Komodo dragon. Tuataras are the most
ancient of reptiles and can be found exclusively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many interesting things people can learn about reptile behavior from their pet like how their
reptile eats, how it moves, how it hunts, how it reproduces, how it mates, how it defends itself, and
how it s born. One fact that can be learned is that not all reptiles are born from eggs some, like boas,
are born live. There are many benefits to keeping a reptile. For example, people who are allergic to pet
dander from furry animals like cats and dogs can keep a reptile as a pet. Reptiles aren t furry, so there
aren t any allergy problems to consider. Reptiles also don t really require the intense care that is
needed for many other pets as their cold blooded metabolism makes them less active. Many reptiles
also don t need to be fed daily as a good meal will often keep them for days or even months in the case
of many snakes. Reptiles are also good for people who like quiet pets as many are relatively silent.
(PetLife) When choosing a pet reptile people also need to be aware of the advantages and
disadvantages of keeping a reptile to be sure it is suitable for them. For example, the experts at Reptile
Expert.com recommend that Corn snakes make a good snake pet for beginners. They are docile and
respond well to human handling. (Hsin Yi) The owners have to be aware that some pet reptiles have
killed people and take into consideration the fact they will be solely responsible for anything that

Leading Change by John P. Kotter
Leading Change by John P. Kotter Book review by Pat Naughtin Harvard Professor John P. Kotter has
been observing the process of change for 30 years. He believes that there are critical differences
between change efforts that have been successful, and change efforts that have failed. What interests
him is why some people are able to get their organizations to change dramatically while most do not.
John P. Kotter writes: Over the past decade, I have watched more than a hundred companies try to
remake themselves into significantly better competitors. They have included large organizations
(Ford) and small ones (Landmark Communications), companies based in United States (General

become skinheads through the neo Nazi movement and strived to make the white American culture
more efficient. It stars Edward Norton as Derek Vineyard, Edward Furlong as Danny Vineyard, Stacy

Essay On NFL Needs To Take Action
Maintaining Control NFL Needs to Take Action In a season that has already seen season ending
injuries of several NFL superstars, Sunday s games on October 29th of 2017 brought forth its most
worst yet, both physically and in its implications. In the third quarter of a game between the New
Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears, Mitchell Trubisky threw a beautiful pass into the endzone,
received midair by Chicago s tight end Zach Miller. As he fell to the ground alongside the defender,
the goal line official s arms raised, signaling a touchdown. However, upon the impact with the ground,
Miller s leg bent in the wrong direction an injury that would be later diagnosed as a knee dislocation.

Furthermore, because of spectator displeasure derived from this and other issues this season, the NFL
s ratings are struggling. In short, the NFL s official ruling of completing a catch is too ambiguous for
spectators, players, and officials, and should be addressed accordingly. The official rulebook listing
should be adjusted to define a catch as having control, within bounds of play, for one complete
second. This rule change would not only provide a much clearer definition of a catch, but it would
also make completing a reception or interception easier, recreating interest in the struggling National
Football League. The NFL catch rule has been a hotly contested topic of sports debate since an
incident involving Calvin Johnson, a highly respected former wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, in
2010. Similar to Zach Miller s recent incident, Johnson was originally awarded a touchdown
reception, only to have it overturned for unclear and confusing reasons upon review. This play resulted
in the first of many changes to the catch rule in recent years, aptly nicknamed the Calvin Johnson Rule
(Rothstein). However, as proven by the necessity of revisiting the rule again in 2015 and 2016, this
was ineffective. Furthermore, as proven by scenarios such as Zach Miller s earlier this season, it is
clear that the recent word change has not removed the

Socialization Of Homeschool
Parents have the right to choose the path for their child education. They should take the time to
consider the long term effect it could have on their child. Home schooled children could be missing
out on valuable lessons in life and the opportunity to participate in school activities and sporting
events. Socialization plays an important part of a child s growth and understanding of the real world.
Children must learn to respect people in authority outside of the home setting. Just anyone can not
teach education; there should be some guidelines for homeschool just as there are for public schools.
There are many memories made from public or private school settings. As one smart person once
stated, If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane
asylums would be filled with mothers. (Howe). Children and parents need separation periods to
develop and understand different people s perceptive.
Socialization is an important development tool. Every interaction your child has helped him learn
language skills, ways to cope with emotions and how to work within social norms. Once your child is
in school, teachers and peers start to be a major part of socialization, which impacts development by
helping your child feel competent. During early school years, a teacher provides structure and
discipline in a child s day. Homeschool children may not have a structured schedule due to what may
be going on at home. Maybe due to a sibling or

The Fasb s Agenda Of Accounting For Goodwill
Abstract.
This paper examines the FASB s agenda of accounting for goodwill in public and not for profit
entities. Research shows they are looking at four alternatives for accounting for goodwill in these
entities. There is no projected completion date as of March 2015. The adoption of this proposal does
not appear to help converge U.S. GAAP and IFRS.
Introduction.
INFO
Body.
Background:
In 2001, FASB Statement No. 142 Goodwill and Other Intangible Assets replaced APB Opinion No.
17 Intangible Assets (issued in 1970) (Hillenmeyer McMillen, 2013). The new statement eliminated
goodwill amortization which was previously amortized over its useful life at a maximum of 40 years.

In 2013, the Board endorsed the Private Company Council decision to give private companies an
alternative to amortize goodwill and simplify the impairment test. After much feedback, there was an
indication that many public and not for profit (NFP) business entities share similar concerns of cost
and complexity on the annual goodwill impairment test. As a result, the Board added this project to its
agenda. The objective of this project is to reduce the cost and complexity of the subsequent accounting
for goodwill for public business entities and NFP entities. This project will determine if certain
intangible assets, such as customer relationships and non compete agreements, should be included in
goodwill. Research will be done to identify the most appropriate useful life of goodwill if it were to be
amortized and on simplifying the impairment test (Hillenmeyer McMillen, 2013).
Examples of Previous Method: Like other public companies, Coca Cola and Macy s have the option of
performing a qualitative assessment of goodwill before completing the quantitative two step process
described in FASB Statement No. 142. Coca Cola and Macy s both test intangible assets that have
indefinite useful lives, such as goodwill, annually for impairment or more frequently if economic
events

Comparision of Duddy Kravitz and Jay Gatsby Essay
Comparision of Duddy Kravitz and Jay Gatsby
Mordecai Richler s The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz certainly provides a stark contrast to F. Scott
Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. While Fitzgerald epitomizes descriptive writing techniques, Richler is
far more reserved and subtle in terms of description when juxtaposed. However, both writers are able
to successfully reveal the precarious journey of, essentially, the same character. Richler s Duddy
Kravitz and Fitzgerald s Jay Gatsby, exemplifies the accomplishments that result from pursuing a
dream. Kravitz obediently follows his grandfather s advice: A man without land is nobody (Richler,
49.) Meanwhile, Gatsby follows his heart and pursues Daisy Buchanans unrequited love. ... Show

While Kravitz desperately attempts to avoid a lifetime of nothingness, Gatsby struggles to overcome
his status as a poor boy, who can t marry rich girls. In essence, poverty is the major contributing factor
responsible for the irrepressible desire exemplified by Kravitz and Gatsby. Thus, it is vital that each
character experience it. Since Kravitz and Gatsby are exposed to the same challenges during their
childhood years, both are able to develop similar psychological characters. Thus, the resounding desire
possessed by each as a result of poverty, proves that Kravitz and Gatsby possess the same
psychological mindset.
Kravitz and Gatsby have essentially created a mythological past to obscure their inauspicious
backgrounds. Both characters demonstrate an overwhelming sense of arrogance, which partially forces
them to conceal their backgrounds. Kravitz has created a fictional brother, who had,
Run away to the States at fifteen, lied about his age, joined the air force, and sunk three Jap battleships
in the Pacific. They were going to make a movie about his life, maybe. After the war Bradley rescued
an Arizona millionaire s beautiful daughter from drowning, married her, and bought a ranch. (Richler,
12.)
Richler later reveals the falsehood of this statement: Familiar with all of Bradley s exploits the boys
also suspected that he was a fictional character, but nobody dared accuse Duddy of lying.

Fictive Fragments Of A Father And Son Analysis
David Mura s Fictive Fragments of a Father and Son focuses on Mura discovering his cultural identity
through his father s past lifestyle. As he analyzes his father s past, he comes to realize his father stories
are possibly fictional, but have an inner meaning regardless. Mura comprehends how his father s
stories focus on the idea of freedom and balancing dual cultures. While placed in camps at an
adolescent age, Mura s father had to learn various types of American ideals including cultural
activities, celebrations, and traditions. One saying that always stuck with the father is a teacher stating,
After the war you will be free again and back in American society (Mura 101). The instructor s lessons

Many elements persuaded non natives to gradually feel welcome, but it overall led for them to change
their idea of what being part of America really symbolized. For instance, the father told Mura that he
had played baseball in the camps since the very beginning. With baseball being originated from the
United States, it immediately became stamped as an American sport because it highlights their
strength, masculinity, and ideals of a modern society. By the camp offering a game such as baseball, it
establishes the labels the camp wanted to implement into non natives in hopes of them to feel more
comfortable within society. Another example worth mentioning is participating in the city s post war
celebrations. After the war ended, the father identifies how the community was celebrating the end of
a war. The celebration involved confetti, firecrackers, men sweeping women off their feet, and lastly,
music. Notably, the song emphasized in the celebration was called Stars and Stripes Forever. A high
school band was playing this song loud and proud to demonstrate their patriotic dedication. The
instrumental symbolizes the American flag and beliefs of the American traditions. After distinguishing
how society celebrated their patriotic pride, this led to the father to come to the conclusion of what the
teachers were discussing on how to represent an American and it was like to be free. Ever since being
in the camps, the father felt conflicted on how to implement his Japanese culture along with his
American culture. At the camp, he was taught American ideals to show his dedication towards their
society. In the process, the father became conflicted on balancing two cultures and overall, led for his
freedom to feel limited. Obtaining freedom signifies expressing oneself however they pleased. At the
same time, the camp instructors

Similarities Between Warren Pryor And Richard Cory

Even though their tolerance toward adversity differs, both characters in the poems Warren Pryor by
Alden Nowlan and Richard Cory by Alrington Robinson prove that they share life similarities when it

characters in these works make self sacrifices to please others. In Warren Pryor, the character gives up

difficulties with thinking, problem solving or language . Furthermore they put forward the symptoms
occur when the brain is damaged by certain diseases, including Alzheimer s disease. During the course
of the disease, proteins build up in the brain to form structures called plaques and tangles. This leads
to the loss of connections between nerve cells, and eventually to the death of nerve cells and loss of

Do managers ownership concentration affect firms investment policy? According to
citet{agrawal1987managerial}, the firm s specific risks have three effects on the insiders incentives.
First, as a shareholder, insiders can benefit from the increased value of the equity claims if the firms

diversify their personal portfolios without actually selling the shares. There are three advantages of
doing so over selling the shares directly. First, the insiders would not need to sell their stocks at a
discount to fundamental value when his or her selling un balance the normal market demand and

opportunities for corporate insiders to hedge their exposures to firm specific risk.

humans craving to finish the job . Jack s inability to kill the pig leads him to desire it, on many levels.
His mind becomes obsessed with the want and need to kill that pig. He doesn t only kills the pig, he
and his tribe slaughter her and cut off her head, as an offering to the beast, a creature the kids are
terrified of, yet never saw, ...The Lord of the Flies hung on his stick and grinned...saw the white teeth
and dim eyes, the blood and his gaze was held by that ancient, inescapable recognition. (pg 136
Golding) This innocent pig becomes this devil like figure that has been influencing the kids all along,
pulling on the strings in just the right way to make them dance however the Lord of the Flies pleased.
He later then talks to Simon as he figures all this out on his own, Fancy thinking the Beast was
something you could hunt and kill! ... You knew didn t you? I m part of you? Close, close, close! I m

Trifle By Susan Glaspell Essay
Among every story there is always a hidden truth, and Trifle is no exception. Written in 1916 by Susan
Glaspell the play narrates the story of Minnie Foster and the serious of events that led her to
murdering her husband. Symbols such as the house, a canary and a birdcage are applied to
significantly emphasize Minnie Foster isolation. The house is a major symbol. Even though the home
is the closest to town, it is located down in a hollow and can not been seen from the road. Trifles
focuses on the death of an oppressive husband at the hand of his emotionally abused wife in an
isolated and remote farm in the midwest. (Barlow 70 86) The seclusion of the home constructs a
lonely environment. Thus Minnie Foster is separated from the world, ... Show more content on

Mrs. Hale compres Minnie to a canary She was kind of like a bird herself real sweet and pretty, but
kind of timid and fluttery (Glaspell 1011) Birds are a symbol of freedom. They are meant to fly and be
in constant movement. Their spirits are wild, and can not be contained. Their home is the endless skies
and the comforts of the clouds. The comparison is ironic since Minnie Foster s spirit is isolated and
has been contained in a unpleasant marriage. Glaspell paint quickly establishes that the canary
symbolizes the particular cheerful side of Mrs. Wright destroyed by the oppression of her marriage.
(Sutten 170 178) Canaries are full of life and brightness. After her marriage the oppression of her
husband has killed her cheerful side and raped her of her life. The canary is known for its beautiful
voice. The bird s song is a replacement to the silence of a marriage without children. Love,
particularly maternal is associated with sound and in its absace with silence ( Makowsky 61) Minnie is
a caretaker with no children to take care of. Beyond being isolated she is lonely and deprived from her
true desires. The bird just like herself has been trapped and condemned to live in

The Marketing Model Canvas As An Analytical Framework
Critique
Our group has used the Business Model Canvas as an analytical framework to evaluate The Fun
Center and generate recommendations to further improve the delivery of its value proposition. The
Fun Center aims to provide children with an exciting and safe place to have fun by providing an array
of arcade games, food and beverages, and event hosting. We made no changes to the general premise
of the Business Plan, but rather we fine tuned the aspects we felt lacked clarity. The gaps that we
originally identified in the first version of the Business Plan were minor and posed little threat to the
company s overall success. However, we felt that The Fun Center s lack of distinctiveness would limit
the company in terms of potential growth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recommendation 1: Market to Children and Parents
Our analysis of the Business Model Canvas has revealed a minor hole in the channels section. We feel
as though the company s business plan failed to account for a very significant customer segment: kids.
Currently, marketing is directed towards arcade enthusiasts and middle to upper class adults. The hope
is that parents will be intrigued by the company s value and bring their children to the arcade.
However, considering that the value proposition seeks to serve children ages 5 12 as a target customer
segment, the Business Model Canvas would suggest that a channel should exist to directly connect
The Fun Center s value to children. In addition to advertising to adults with traditional methods, we
recommend that The Fun Center also market directly to children in order to improve reputation and
garner more interest. For example, advertising The Fun Center on children s shows and radio stations
will communicate to children in ways that are already familiar and comfortable to them. According to
small business advice from Hearst newspapers, it would cost 200 to 1,500 dollar to commercially
advertise The Fun Center on a local station, a small investment for a large long term benefit (Wagner,
2015). In in the same way they react to new toys and cereal, they will ask their parents to bring them
to The Fun Center. Further, to partner with local elementary

Contributing To Volunteer
What is the meaning behind volunteering or giving service? It is meant to be giving your time freely
for some sort of a cause. For this course we were asked to volunteer our time for one or two of many
organizations that exist in the Las Vegas area. For me this was a very meaningful event because it has
lead me to seeing my own privileges and appreciating my place in the world. It also made me feel bad
for those who are struggling and wanting to do more for them. The site I choose to volunteer for was
Catholic charities because I want to get more involved with the Catholic church again. I used to
volunteer at the Cathedral as an usher many years ago, but this was a different experience all together.
It gave me additional purpose in my life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am so thankful that we were asked to partake in this service activity. I am grateful for this course and
happy to have gotten the opportunity to learn more about volunteering opportunities now. I hope that I
will be able to continue some volunteering activities for myself in the future. I am truly thankful for
this opportunity to give my time and to write this paper to reflect on this experience. This seems to be
so therapeutic for me and I hope for others in this class as well. It helped me to get a sense of
autonomy, choices, and connection within this service

Atlantic Hawksbill Turtle-Personal Narrative
Yummy! I was enjoying a lovely sponge dinner when my best friend JJ swam into my coral reef home.
He excitedly said Alex there are a ton of Jellyfish right by the huge water cliff! Now most turtles
would just say cool and keep on going with their day, but I love JELLYFISH! Sorry, let me introduce
myself. I am Alexandra, the Atlantic Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata.) But my friends call
me Alex. JJ says it will take a long time to reach the jellies, so we better get going. As we swim, let me
give you some information about me and JJ. We ll start with our moms. Female turtles lay about 140
eggs at a time. They lay eggs between July and October. To do this they swim up to a beach in Puerto
Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we are in deep waters we stay near the surface. We live in warm tropical waters in the Atlantic,
Indian, and Pacific oceans. We mostly eat sponges, anemones, squid, shrimp, and of course, jellyfish!
Now here comes the best part...how we look! We have a narrow head and a sharp beak with a brown
face. Our carapace is amber colored and has spots of red black, yellow, and brown. Our plaston is
mostly amber colored. We have dark flippers. Wow! I ve talked so much about us that we ve made it
to the jellies already.
Mmmmmmmm! Those jellyfish look so good after a long swim. I m just about to eat one when a old
looking turtle swims up behind us and bellows STOP! We are so frightened that we turn as quick as
lightning. The old turtle says Those are not jellyfish. That is human waste. He then tells us how
dangerous humans are. They throw too much trash in here. They put all types of chemicals and oils in
here that pollute our water. They also kill us for our shells and meat. I have heard this speech a
hundred times. But then he says something I have never heard before. He tells us how humans can
help. They should reduce the amount of trash they use and recycle more, cut down on chemicals, turn
out lights visible to the beach, and beware of our

Military Planning For The First Time During World War II
Since the Cold War, scholars utilizing a military and state centric approach to the study of regime
security such as Paul Williams, Joseph Nye and Sean Lynn Jones, and Stephen Walt have made
significant contributions to the literature on security studies. While these authors present unique
viewpoints, they all tend share the perspective that major international conflict has been a key factor in
the development of this field. Stephen Walt pointed out that the idea of security studies first emerged
as a result of civilians becom[ing] extensively involved in military planning for the first time during
World War II. This surge in civilian interest during the war led to an era of security studies known as
the Golden Age during which Paul Williams indicated that civilian strategists enjoyed relatively close
connections with Western governments and their foreign and security policies. The enthusiasm for this
area of study was maintained for a substantial amount of time due to what Joseph Nye called the
unprecedented nature of security problems confronting the United States , which were mostly brought
about by the advent of the atomic age. Several forces however, would eventually counteract the uptick
in interest; principle among them was the negative perception of the Vietnam War. Walt highlighted
this idea stating the debacle in Indochina ... made the study of security affairs unfashionable in many
universities. Fortunately for the progression of the field, this

My High School Student
I m a high school student. Typically, when people think of high schoolers they envision an athletic
jock, a geeky near, or even the most popular girl in school. I personally don t consider myself to be
one of those typical high school students. As I m a hard working, self motivated student, who chose to
leave the high school scene, and switch over to the running start program for my senior year. I ve had
countless people tell me that I d made the wrong decision, or that I m missing out on the best days of
my life. All of which may be true, but in the beginning of my senior year this new challenge was
exactly what I needed to be a successful student, and to be the happiest person I could be. As I threw
myself into an entirely different learning environment, which included more independence and self
accountability, I knew this was best. Once I conformed to my new routine and began to get to know
the teachers and students in my classes, things got a lot easier. I was doing well in all my classes. I
stayed on top of my homework, turned in all my assignments on time, stayed after class to ask
questions, until I hit a major setback in my Political Science class. It was my first college exam, and I
had no idea what to expect, I thought I had thoroughly studied the material until I got my exam back
with a failing score. I was in disbelief, I didn t understand how this could ve happened when I thought
that I d prepared myself so well. I immediately started considering all the factors

Moral Dilemm Abortion In The United States
Moral Dilemma: Abortion United States is divided into Democrats and Republicans, and this means
that people have very different opinions about various topics. Questions like gay marriage, economic
policies, and foreign policies divide people in several camps. They often have different values,
preferences and beliefs, but when it comes to abortion, this is the topic that both Catholics and
Democrats take extremely seriously and find it problematic (Leonhardt). The problem with abortion is
that no matter what position you choose, someone s rights are violated. In cases when it comes to gay
marriage, for example, by allowing these people to marry each other, no other parties are harmed, but
with abortion if you decide to give rights to have an abortion to women, then unborn babies are the
ones who pay the price and this price is the most extreme their life. To understand this issue we have
to consider both sides: by not allowing women to have an abortion, we are taking away their right to
control their bodies. Pregnancies often are unplanned and accidental and that means that a child can be
conceived without planning. Raising children is a life changing experience and it s not surprising that
people might not be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the problems is that defining when a fetus can be called a baby is very hard, so while some
believe that getting an abortion when being 2 3 months pregnant is not a murder, others think that
from the moment women become pregnant, they are carrying a human and abortion is a crime. Some
conservatives take a less extreme stance and say that abortion can be allowed in special conditions, for
example, when a woman was raped and some liberals say that abortion should be permitted in any
case. So, the ideas ranging around this topic range from: no abortion should be tolerated and women
need to be punished, to women should have total freedom to decide what to do to their

  • 4. The Effects of War on Society How is the subject of war perceived through a historical point of view? John Wilson approaches the question of whether the subject of war is an important influence in his work And in the Morning. Wilson proficiently demonstrates the influential importance of the subject of war by addressing the historical perspective in his novel. The most considerable effects from war are to an individual, it can change how a person thinks as shown in Wilson s work. Many soldiers experience dramatic events in their life which they cannot handle mentally and sometimes physically as portrayed in Wilson s work. As one of the main characters in the novel, Jim Hay experience a traumatic event, where he nearly loses his mind and starts hallucinating when he says, The black dog is back, I slept and he returned, but this time the dream finished (Wilson 184). The character, Jim was not mentally prepared to handle his best friend s death, and thus slowly losing his mind, clearly showing the effects of war on soldiers. Just as how many people are not mentally prepared for traumatic events, people can be swept up in the war itself and be completely blind to the consequences. As stated by CM Magazine Hay s experience allows the reader to understand how someone could be swept up in a war frenzy, and then kept in a state of continuing uncertainty (Gregor). The article demonstrates how both the reader and the character itself can portray how one can think they know where they are, but in reality, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His countless intimate relationships with a variety of women were truly unbelievable by modern standards. It is easy for the readers to notice the amorous character of Genji. However, behind this certain image, there were surely some other noticeable traits of him through his affairs with some of the important women in his life. Eventually, those women would be sadly abandoned and forgotten as time passed by. However, that was not the case for Genji. Genji could easily fall for a woman in a short period of time. However, at least at the moment, he genuinely cared about those women and sometimes felt sad for them as he could not make any commitments to them. His relationship with the lady Sixth Avenue is an example. After Genji s intense emotion for Sixth Avenue decreased, he still thought of her from time to time, wondering if she was getting on well enough. Even though he knew that his wife Aoi s death was partially caused by Sixth Avenue, he still would not forget about her. Of course, he was mad at her at first, but as time went by, he gradually let go of the rage and started feeling bad for her since she was all alone. He even attempted several times to visit her and ask for forgiveness as he often neglected her feelings. Sixth Avenue rejected him at first because she decided to break off all relations with Genji. Nonetheless, she was moved by his genuineness eventually and agreed to accept his apology with an open heart. The incident served as an example of the fact that Genji was truly a genuine man, through he was amorous. However, apart from his positive characters, Genji sometimes could ... The Stages Of Piaget s Development Theory This essay is concerned with the Concrete Operational Stage of Piaget s development theory, which he described as a major turning point in a child s cognitive development as it is the beginning of logical thought processes (Piaget, 1954). This typically occurs between seven and eleven years of age. It will describe the developmental tests used to evidence development and evaluate the strengths and weakness of the theory in relation to the stage and tests used. During this stage, children develop and are able to use logical reasoning as long as it can be applied to concrete and specific examples they are familiar with, such as their own experiences and people, places and objects they know and have experienced however, abstract thought and what if scenarios are still beyond their thinking. However, in Mohsin Hamid s The Reluctant Fundamentalist starring the protagonist Changez, a Pakistani Princetonian who is a top ranked employee at a prestigious New York valuation firm, turns out not to be an Islamic fundamentalist, but a reluctant fundamentalist of US Capitalism. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hamid, through his choice of names, brilliantly doubles his characters as motifs. All the significant characters have a symbolic identity and thus, he is simultaneously telling two stories, but not in the traditional sense expected of a frame story, for this is not a story within a story, but rather, a story behind a story. The frame takes Changez back to the past, but when he finishes retelling the past, the frame is no more and the reader is back in the present. Therefore, when the past is put in conjunction with the happenings in the cafe, only one story is being told. The second story is conveyed through the interaction of the motifs and requires a little intuition (not that much) on the reader s part to decipher its meaning. In using the motifs to convey a variety of messages, the relationship between Changez and Erica is especially saturated with clues of their secret identities. Erica had only one previous lover, Chris, her childhood sweetheart who died of cancer in late adolescence and whom she is never able to let go. Initially, she was severely depressed but eventually recovered from the ordeal. However, as Erica s intimacy with Changez grows, so does her feeling of nostalgia. Introduction Fitness and muscle model athletes are often benchmarked as the embodiment of physical perfection (Sundgot Borgen et al., 2011). That being said, not all athletes have, or believe that they have, bodies adapted to the paradigm of their specific sport (Sundgot Borgen et al., 2011). These athletes may often experience pressure to achieve this absolute ideal body type. Athletes competing in aesthetic sports such as gymnasts, figure skaters, divers, bodybuilders experience greater pressure to reduce weight than athletes competing in sports in which lean body mass aesthetic are less important (Drinkwater et al., 2005). Within this class of athletes judged on aestheticism, fitness and muscle models are a class whom are noted for dieting down to extremely low level of body fat to display muscle. There appears to be a rise in competitive fitness and muscle model shows and the goal to emulate if not a sporting aesthetic which will appeal domestically and commercially. (Scott et al., 2013). Being able to infer an appropriate conclusion to the downfall of flight TWA 800, had been a pressing issue for the government for a time. Many conclusions were proposed and rejected, elaborate theories were created and squandered, but one man should stand out like a sore thumb. Ramzi Yousef, the bomb making mastermind of Al Qaeda, might have had more to do with the unfortunate incident than most might believe. A man of many identities, Yousef was at the pinnacle of America s most wanted terrorists list and he was the center piece of Al Qaeda. Dubbed the Mozart of terror by Lance, Yousef grew up in the Kuwaiti oil city of Fuhayhil and acquired his engineering degree in the United Kingdom. Shortly afterwards, Yousef left for the early al Qaeda training camps and learned the ins and outs of building improvised explosive devices. Osama bin Laden began to take notice of his bomb making expertise and recruited him to be his chief point man on terror. Bin Laden and Yousef began their plots of destruction early in the 1990s, with plans to bomb the world trade center. The Development of Major Characters in Alistair Maclean Novels British author Alistair Maclean once declared, We are all brave men and we are all afraid, and what the world calls a brave man, he is too brave and afraid like the all rest of us. Only he is brave for five minutes longer. Throughout his novels, The Guns of Navarone, River of Death, Break Heart Pass, Maclean puts his characters through a grueling set of challenges, which they must face with bravery and intellect. Maclean uses the recurring climatic challenges as his own special trademarks the threat of impersonal climatic forces (Lee 362). The added trademark combines with the dangers of the plot to force the protagonist through a gauntlet of dangers in order to complete the mission. The recurring trademark is evident in almost all Maclean novels, as the climactic forces are directly responsible for almost all the challenges the protagonist must face during the rising action. The forces are not limited to freezing temperatures and roaring oceans but they are also in the form of dense, lush, and dangerous rain forests as seen in River of Death. In River of Death, the protagonist as well as other major characters must also face an array of environmental conflicts, primarily, the lush and dangerous Amazonian river system and forest surrounding. Hamilton, the protagonist, is a brave and respected man, However, after many years of entering the dense rainforest and returning with ancient Greek gold coins, he is rumored to have found The Lost City. Due to his supposed findings, he has attracted a greedy wealthy man who is willing to pay a large amount of money for Hamilton to take him and his group to the fabled gold city. Age In Instinct Attention Analysis The role of age in distinct attention mechanisms Srishti Mittal N15308460 Cognitive Neuroscience Professor Clayton Curtis Spring 2016 The role of age in distinct attention mechanisms Attention is known as a behavioral and cognitive process of selectively concentrating awareness on a specific object, issue, or activity, while not focusing on other potential stimuli from the environment. While the human brain has great capabilities for processing information, it also has limited capacity. A person cannot attend to all the information being received through all the five senses at one time. And this capacity is reduced as people get older. Standardized low resolution brain electromagnetic tomography showed that the age related decline in preparatory activity was associated with reduced activation of medial and superior frontal gyrus and anterior cingulate gyrus. The results suggest that age related differences in these prefrontal brain areas reflect declines in preparatory attention and gating of subsequent task related speech information, especially under conditions of divided attention. These findings may reflect mechanisms relating to impaired speech perception by older people in cocktail party listening situations ( Getzman, Golob, Wascher 7). Older adults also preformed significantly worse than the younger group when they first had to determine the speaker of the target stimulus, focus their attention on this speaker, and then identify the target company value among the concurrent values. The Battle Of Trenton And The Battle Of Saratoga The battle of Trenton and the battle of Saratoga brought a crucial victory to the Continental Army, but the battle of Trenton improved morale in the patriots more so than the battle of Saratoga did. The battle of Trenton proved to be significant by ultimately turning the tide of the conflict in their favor, improving morale and hope for the war. For instance, The battle of Trenton on Christmas Eve in 1776 proved the colonist were dedicated and a capable force. The colonists were wary about fighting the very powerful Hessian, therefore on Christmas Eve, they planned a sneak attack to defeat them. The patriots marched and fought in icy and poor conditions before dawn, hoping to defeat the powerful Hessians. After the surprise attack the Colonists had totaled 2 dead and 5 wounded. The Hessians had 22 dead and 90 wounded and 918 captured. This victory would change the image of the colonist s army and bring about great change. After the battle of Trenton, they were now viewed as a definite threat to the British. On the other hand, the battle of Saratoga gave the colonist hope for the upcoming battles. On October 17th,1777 the colonist surrounded General Burgoyne and his army continue to hold strong, the army fought until the British surrendered to the colonist. This was significant for the colonist because the British surrendered to the colonist. This showed the British that the colonist held up a good fight and that this war was going to be long and hard. Authorities who waive Juveniles into the Adult Justice System are making a devastating impact on their futures Abstract This paper is about the most controversial subject in the penal system today, i.e. should juveniles be treated as adults and be tried in the adult justice system and the negative impact on their lives. This becomes relevant after the judgment in Roper Vs Simmons (1995) which states that there is a doubt as to when the adolescent becomes an adult. The paper further analyses whether juveniles are different from adults and the conclusion arrived at is that the adult world is different from the world of minors and hence there must be total differentiation between the justice systems for juveniles and adults. A) Introduction This paper is an attempt to understand and point out the flaws in the legal system that has of late in many cases begun to treat juveniles in the same footing as adult offenders. There is a raging controversy over this move that makes young offenders to be tried and incarcerated just as if the crime was done by an adult. The arguments over this have been made in the Supreme Court and the land mark judgement Roper Vs Simmons (1995). However it is submitted that simple observations of the post procedure effects on young persons have not been verified or recorded properly. The Ecosystem Of The Chesapeake Bay The Ecosystem Introduction to Basic Geography Fig. 1.1 Scene in Fig. 1.1., the Chesapeake Bay is substantial in size; at roughly 64,000 miles, it contains roughly fifty rivers and thousands of streams and creeks. It encompasses parts of 6 states, including all of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bay is what is known as a watershed, an area that contributes to the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within the 64,000 square miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams and rivers, eventually making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States. The Estuary System An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward and ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the best and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique in nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans have attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. When there is a shortage of them, the signals are not transmitted as effectively . Buttram et al (2004) suggest that it has already been demonstrated that programs of canine assisted therapy (CAT) can produce beneficial effects on persons affected with Alzheimer s disease (AD) . Observation undertaken by Buttram and colleagues on patients in an Alzheimer Special Care Unit (ASCU), found that by having a dog present they found a reduction in behaviour alterations and mood disorders and an increase in social interactions. According to citet{agrawal1987managerial}, the firm s specific risks have three effects on the insiders incentives. First, the insiders would not need to sell their stocks at a discount to fundamental value when his or her selling un balance the normal market demand and supply. Second, insiders can avoid being linked with insider trading accusations and sending negative signal to the market. Third, some of them may actually want to hold onto the firms stocks in their personal portfolio but want to also diversify. In summary, share pledge loans provide more opportunities for corporate insiders to hedge their exposures to firm specific risk. There is a long list of papers in the literature focusing on the relationship between managers ability to hedge and firms risk. • 42. Trifle By Susan Glaspell Essay Among every story there is always a hidden truth, and Trifle is no exception. Written in 1916 by Susan Glaspell the play narrates the story of Minnie Foster and the serious of events that led her to murdering her husband. Symbols such as the house, a canary and a birdcage are applied to significantly emphasize Minnie Foster isolation. The house is a major symbol. Even though the home is the closest to town, it is located down in a hollow and can not been seen from the road. Trifles focuses on the death of an oppressive husband at the hand of his emotionally abused wife in an isolated and remote farm in the midwest. Mrs. Hale compres Minnie to a canary She was kind of like a bird herself real sweet and pretty, but kind of timid and fluttery (Glaspell 1011) Birds are a symbol of freedom. They are meant to fly and be in constant movement. Their spirits are wild, and can not be contained. Their home is the endless skies and the comforts of the clouds. The comparison is ironic since Minnie Foster s spirit is isolated and has been contained in a unpleasant marriage. Glaspell paint quickly establishes that the canary symbolizes the particular cheerful side of Mrs. Wright destroyed by the oppression of her marriage. (Sutten 170 178) Canaries are full of life and brightness. After her marriage the oppression of her husband has killed her cheerful side and raped her of her life. The canary is known for its beautiful voice. The bird s song is a replacement to the silence of a marriage without children. Love, particularly maternal is associated with sound and in its absace with silence ( Makowsky 61) Minnie is a caretaker with no children to take care of. The Marketing Model Canvas As An Analytical Framework Critique Our group has used the Business Model Canvas as an analytical framework to evaluate The Fun Center and generate recommendations to further improve the delivery of its value proposition. The Fun Center aims to provide children with an exciting and safe place to have fun by providing an array of arcade games, food and beverages, and event hosting. We made no changes to the general premise of the Business Plan, but rather we fine tuned the aspects we felt lacked clarity. The gaps that we originally identified in the first version of the Business Plan were minor and posed little threat to the company s overall success. Recommendation 1: Market to Children and Parents Our analysis of the Business Model Canvas has revealed a minor hole in the channels section. We feel as though the company s business plan failed to account for a very significant customer segment: kids. Currently, marketing is directed towards arcade enthusiasts and middle to upper class adults. The hope is that parents will be intrigued by the company s value and bring their children to the arcade. However, considering that the value proposition seeks to serve children ages 5 12 as a target customer segment, the Business Model Canvas would suggest that a channel should exist to directly connect The Fun Center s value to children. In addition to advertising to adults with traditional methods, we recommend that The Fun Center also market directly to children in order to improve reputation and garner more interest. For example, advertising The Fun Center on children s shows and radio stations will communicate to children in ways that are already familiar and comfortable to them. According to small business advice from Hearst newspapers, it would cost 200 to 1,500 dollar to commercially advertise The Fun Center on a local station, a small investment for a large long term benefit (Wagner, 2015). • 48. Military Planning For The First Time During World War II Since the Cold War, scholars utilizing a military and state centric approach to the study of regime security such as Paul Williams, Joseph Nye and Sean Lynn Jones, and Stephen Walt have made significant contributions to the literature on security studies. While these authors present unique viewpoints, they all tend share the perspective that major international conflict has been a key factor in the development of this field. Stephen Walt pointed out that the idea of security studies first emerged as a result of civilians becom[ing] extensively involved in military planning for the first time during World War II. This surge in civilian interest during the war led to an era of security studies known as the Golden Age during which Paul Williams indicated that civilian strategists enjoyed relatively close connections with Western governments and their foreign and security policies. The enthusiasm for this area of study was maintained for a substantial amount of time due to what Joseph Nye called the unprecedented nature of security problems confronting the United States , which were mostly brought about by the advent of the atomic age. Several forces however, would eventually counteract the uptick in interest; principle among them was the negative perception of the Vietnam War. Walt highlighted this idea stating the debacle in Indochina ... made the study of security affairs unfashionable in many universities. Fortunately for the progression of the field, this ... • 51. Moral Dilemm Abortion In The United States Moral Dilemma: Abortion United States is divided into Democrats and Republicans, and this means that people have very different opinions about various topics. Questions like gay marriage, economic policies, and foreign policies divide people in several camps. They often have different values, preferences and beliefs, but when it comes to abortion, this is the topic that both Catholics and Democrats take extremely seriously and find it problematic (Leonhardt). The problem with abortion is that no matter what position you choose, someone s rights are violated. In cases when it comes to gay marriage, for example, by allowing these people to marry each other, no other parties are harmed, but with abortion if you decide to give rights to have an abortion to women, then unborn babies are the ones who pay the price and this price is the most extreme their life. To understand this issue we have to consider both sides: by not allowing women to have an abortion, we are taking away their right to control their bodies.
