Extending High School
High school is like a spork: it s a crappy spoon and a crappy fork, so in the end it s just plain useless.
John Mayer Many people when asked will tell you that high school is pointless except for being
essential to gain higher education. No student will tell you that adding two years to their already
exhausting four years of high school is a good idea especially if the extra years are going to be exactly
like the rest of their high school experience. However if the extra two years are constructed with brand
new curriculum and help prepare students efficiently for what is to come in college, then it could be
very beneficial. It has become apparent that many students drop out of college within their first year.
My principals of business teacher, Mr. Eeg, has told me numerous amounts of time that he has
students who return from their dream colleges after just one year to instead go to De Anza or Foothill
because their college life was too hectic for them. They claim it was too much reading, too much
homework, and not enough of an actual life out of school and/or work. ... Show more content on

Leon botstein, a scholar and the president of Bard college, believes we should follow a system similar
to the european one. Removing our middle school and dividing schools in such a way that students
start working with professionals at age 16 (Botstein). He says, Why follow an out moded high school
model and keep students longer in a structure that is failing? . Obama recently visited a six year high
school in Brooklyn where in the last two years students are offered a degree. A structure like this could
help students immensely even though it is a vocational school because it gives them proper
experience, learning and training to be prepared to either work or go further in their educational career
after they finish the six years of high school and they leave with a

Roman Catholic. She came to the catholic church after her husband died. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was important because she started the first Catholic school in America. The
school was free and to help the poor still be close to God. She also created many things for kids and
the poor even though she went through a tough time. She was able to give even though she lost a lot.
She still contributed and helped other when her husband died and became poor. Saint Elizabeth Ann
Seton also started an orphanage for kids. This may not sound very important but not only was she
poor. She created the first Catholic school in America. That helped the Catholic Religion be more
widespread and to also show people how special God is. The final thing that she did that I thought was
very important was the organization she made, Sisters of Charity. Sisters of Charity was a group of
sisters in the church to help and serve the poor. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was critical to the Catholic
church because she contributed a lot to the

Meeting At Seward County Community College Essay
Meeting Characteristics for Conflict Management and Resolution Meetings are a common tool used
by companies and organizations for a variety of purposes, and they can be implemented in a variety of
ways. Properly implemented, meetings can be effective, productive, and increase involvement of the
participants at the meetings. If not implemented properly, meetings can be costly as well as
unproductive for both the leader and the participants. By examining recent meeting characteristics of
Wheatridge Park Care Center and the Phi Theta Kappa organization at Seward County Community
College, a better understanding of the positive and negative aspects of various meeting styles may be
explored through applying and analyzing the events of the meeting against conflict management
principles recommended in Raines (2013).
Wheatridge Park Care Center Meeting Wheatridge Park Care Center has demonstrated several aspects
that adhere to the suggestions of Raines (2013), and that have worked well for the participants at the
meetings. Wheatridge Park s meetings can be broken down into two parts, which are the department
meetings and the all staff meetings. Each of the five departments at Wheatridge Park Care Center
conducts department meetings once a month with the employees in that department. The department
meetings typically address issues such as information employees need to know, changes in the
department, dealing with nonstructural sources of conflict, and build on team cognition.

Northern Drilling, The World s Third Largest Exploration...
Northern Drilling: Introduction Northern Drilling Inc. was established as a subsidiary of Europe s
InterDrilling Corporation, the world s third largest exploration drilling contractor, in 2006 to take on a
new frontier in Canada. A seasoned veteran in the drilling exploration field for more than 30 years,
Peter Bremner took the helm as general manager to build its Canadian division as an opportunity to
take advantage of a potentially untapped resource goldmine . Northern Drilling prided itself as an
extremely specialized, full service drilling exploration company being technically sound along with
keeping the highest safety standards in the industry. They are predominantly hired by large mining
companies, with RFP s (Request for Proposal), to explore the possible existence of valuable ore
deposits, mostly in remote locations and occasionally in harsh conditions. The industry as a whole is
known as diamond exploration drilling, however it s not limited to one mineral, but rather anything
from industrial minerals such as salts or limestone to scarcer elements found beneath earth s surface
(Bremner, 2012). The ore drilling industry is especially competitive comprised of approximately 80
many smaller, more specialized commodity type contractors. They threaten the much larger
contractors such as Northern as they are able to accept RFP s on very thin margins with little to no
overhead. With mining companies being very price sensitive, it hurt Northern Drilling as they were

Analysis Of George Orwell s War, And The Wisdom Of The...
London not only uses the wild nature of dogs but also uses human s wild instinct. In his stories of War,
and To the Wisdom of the Trail, London uses the brutalness of natural intuition to show survival of the
fittest. In the story War, a scout lets an enemy scout live, just to be killed by that same scout. This is
ironic, and London uses this irony to show that humans are willing to kill when their own life is in
peril. The need to survive is a very crucial piece of this story, and the narrator lets his emotions get in
the way of his instinct. Nature also plays a key role. In this case, nature is a foil to the theme. London
draws a stark contrast between the tranquility of nature, and the brutality that is human nature. This
highlights how brutal the human intuition, a part of nature, in the beautiful landscape of the forest.
Jeanne Reesman writes, While nature shows her fecundity with images of great forests and the golden
pollen that hangs in the air, men kill each other as strangers (Reesman. War ). Nature in this story is
seen in the instinct of the living scout, as well as in the emotion of the narrator. The narrator is killed
leaving the reader to think that the beauty of nature is inferior to natural instinct. Nature and the
narrator are very similar in this story, both are calm and worry free. The Scout who lives is brutal, and
wild, like the nature that is traditionally described in London s work. The prevailing scout goes to his
natural instinct

Life In The 1920 s
The nineteen twenties can be summed up as one of the most important improvements on theatre,
paintings, music, building, and culture. Many changes in the 1920s in day to day life happened. In the
1920s most of it was under President Woodrow Wilson. During this time many Americans challenged
past traditions and created their own. Many people became interested in new popular culture. New
traditions such as listening to the radio, and watching film brought new thrills about news, sports, and
made party s better. The nineteen twenties was one of the most important periods of history in the

were more about Americans that rejected traditional beliefs. His most famous book The Great Gatsby
is considered to be one of the greatest books in history. In the nineteen twenties it also produced the
greatest writer of theatre plays, Eugene O Neill. O Neill had dark and violent views of human nature.
He used the theatrical methods, that no one else have ever used before. The way that he used them
carried an emotional power never seen before in America. Some of his best known plays were
Mourning Becomes Electra, The Iceman Cometh, and A Long Day s Journey Into Night. A good
number of American writers produced great poetry during the nineteen twenties. The most famous was
written by T. S. Elliot, and it was called The Waste Land. Another famous poem is by Allen Grinsberg,
and it s called Howl. Another famous poem in the nineteen twenties is written by Sylvia Plath, and it s

growth gave Americas enough money to buy more painting for home decorations. During this time six

Softball Descriptive Writing
Well, it was a cold day, actually pretty warm for an afternoon in the middle of March. I could actually
listen to my heart beating. My nerves were running wild and I knew I was going to explode with
eagerness any time soon. Ever since I was little, softball has been my favorite sport. I m 5 8, which is
pretty tall for a girl, so I have an advantage. People were getting called into the coach s office and it
was pretty obvious when they walked out if they were satisfied with the news they got on whether or
not they made varsity. SLAM! Went the door as my coach walked into the gym. It was like it was
being screamed, but my name was finally called. I walked into the cold, musty smelling room as my
coaches all stared at me with big smiles on their faces. The bright lights, as bright as the sun, hung
over my head and the odor of dirty cleats stained the furniture and walls. Softball is a very hard,
complex sport with many skills that you have to know how to do. All over the walls ... Show more

Large Mealworm
In 1970s, Eric Charnov s colleagues conducted an experiment on a small bird Parus major, based on
the hypothesis proposed by Eric Charnov and Gordon Orions that a forager s problem to gain
maximum food efficiency, could be broken down into two problems . what to eat and when to stop,
and each could be described by a distinct economic model.
Based on this hypothesis, the Prey model was presented by Charnov and his colleagues David
Stephens and John Krebs in Foraging Theory, in which Charnov assumed that searching for food costs
animals something, the energy that it takes to search.
He suggested that Goals of the Prey model is to characterize the decision making phase. In order to
make an efficient foraging decision, Charnov reasoned, a forager needs to know 4 things energy

In 1970s, Jonathan Erichsen and Michael Webber, conducted an experiment on a small bird Parus
major. In order to create two pre items of known meal value, they created a large mealworm (1/8th f
whole) and a small mealworm (1/16th of whole mealworm). To create an artificial foraging
environment, they places a rubber conveyor r belt under the cage, where the food was placed and
timed as to when it will appear on the belt.
With 5 birds and testing their initial patterns, they formulated a hypothesis as to which birds will eat
large vs small mealworm . Interestingly, their findings were very similar to what they had predicted.
Only anomaly was that zero one rule was not as per the predictions and saw a variance where 85% of
worms took large mealworms compared to prediction of 100%.
Many more such tests of prey model have been conducted with species ranging from insects to
mammals with similar results.
In these experiments, the independence of inclusion from encounter rate principle seems to be widely
supported, whereas zero one rule seems not to be precisely

of the subway system which Jurgis helps to construct is to break the teamsters union. Because Jurgis

Jurgis opinion of the evangelists illustrate? The evangelist was preaching sin and redemption, the
infinite grace of God and His pardon for human frailty. He was very much in earnest, and he meant

readers find this chapter easier and more interesting to read than many of the other chapters in the

and more interesting to read than many of the other chapters in the story. In this chapter, the Jones
family lived in luxurious castle with butlers and servants unlike previous chapters where Sinclair
described the struggles of the factory workers. 3. Many critics believe this scene is written to delight
Sinclair s socialist friends. At the time it was written, readers would have easily recognized that the
butler is named after Alexander Hamilton, who was Secretary of the Treasury, and that the dog is
named after Admiral Dewey, who fought in the Spanish American War. Sinclair and the other
socialists would have considered these two men to be perpetrators of the capitalist system, and
ridiculing them in this scene would have been very amusing. Besides providing his readers with an
amusing scene, what does Sinclair reveal about the changes in Jurgis character during this chapter?
During this chapter, Sinclair reveal that capitalism bought out the worst in people especially Jurgis.

Integrated Marketing Communications Is Defined As A...
According to Ang (2014), Integrated Marketing Communications is defined as a research based,
audience focused, communication planning process that aims to execute a brand communication
program over time and this is achieved by coordinating different communication disciplines and
integrating the creative content across different media. The aim is to achieve short term financial gain
and long term brand equity. Since IMC is all about using different Media vehicles, the most effective
one is Television; such as Reality television shows which has many benefits and contributions
especially when it comes to creating a successful brand. There are two reality television shows that
has been analysed from the first part of this assignment and they are: Keeping up with the Kardashians
and My Kitchen Rules, which I will then discuss how it relates to branding.
Brand equity is important to create and maintain as it is an intangible asset of added value as well as
goodwill that will then result from the favourable image, impressions of differentiation and the
strength of consumer attachment to brand name, company name or trademark. The stronger the equity
the better it positions the company as well as its brand which is only often reinforced through
advertising or even sponsoring. For example, Breville appliances command good quality kitchen
appliances and represents higher price than the other brands as it is being used by the contestants of
My Kitchen Rules. In other words, it is the

Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus was bon in 163 B.C. and came from a distinguished family. His
grandfather conquered Hannibal, his father brought the Celtiberian war successfully to a close,

woman of wide culture who employed Greek tutors to educate her sons, Tiberius and Gaius. Two
tutors who influenced Tiberius at a young age were Diophanes, a teacher of oration and Blossius of

The land was to be distributed to roman citizens up to a maximum of 30 iugera who had to pay a small

majority of large land owners were senators, he alienated himself form them. Gracchus did not consult
the senate regarding this measure and instead brought it before the popular assembly. His reason for
doing so might have been that he believed it would get bogged down in the senate, as it was a bill
directly affecting their finances or perhaps it was because he only had one year to act and realized the
immediate need for reform. However Tiberius had friends in the senate and it is possible that the bill
may have got through if he had followed procedure and if the senators put the needs of the republic
before their own. When the bill was brought before the Concilium Plebis, it was vetoed by fellow
tribune M. Octavius, a large holder of public land. After pleading with Octavius to withdraw his veto,
Tiberius asked the people for the removal of Octavius as tribune. The people voted in favour of his
deposition and elected another tribune who carried Tiberius

The Effects Of Increasing Minimum Wage On The United States
The Effects of Increasing Minimum Wage Caroline Mattox Central Virginia Community College
Introduction In 1938, the first national minimum wage laws in the United States were passed as part of
the Fair Labor Standards Act, which served as a floor below wages, to reduce poverty and to ensure
that economic growth is shared across the workforce. Today, many people who work for companies
that pay at or near the minimum wage and remain near or below the poverty level rely on government
health and food security and income programs to supplement their living expenses. Since 1938, there
have been many additional policies to the Fair Labor Standards Act that have changed many things,
such as increasing the national minimum wage numerous times to the currently salary level, which
was set in 1997. The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, from the United States Department of Labor
Wage and Hour Division, was a policy to change the federal minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 in
three additions, which began in July of 2009. (U.S., 2009). There has been many conversations about
what the positive impacts can come to America s lowest income workers as a result of an increase in
the minimum wage, and there has also been equally as many discussions over the negative effects the
increase can have on similar people. This paper s purpose is to combine each viewpoint and
objectively analyze the arguments for and against an increase in the minimum wage. I will first

Difference between Postpartum depression and Postpartum Psychosis 1
When we speak of these two disorders what are we talking about and how are they different in the
relationship to woman? I will try to determine that in this brief essay. The first of two is postpartum
depression, this disorder consist of a disorder that occur in mothers that have giving birth to a child. It
occurs in some women after the first week of giving birth but can last longer for several months.
It can be triggered by ways of a sudden hormone c hanges that happen after childbirth, miscarriage, or
stillbirth. Some important facts about this disorder are: If the symptoms of postpartum become serious
it may trigger the mother to have thoughts of hurting themselves by means of suicide or even worst
they may be considering hurting their child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This disorder is much serious than postpartum because of the facts it causes the mother to have mere
thoughts of hallucinations and delusions (perceiving things differently from the way they are).
In a legal defense case these disorder can be used as a vital piece of evidence such as manner. If the
attorney feels that the individual cannot stand trial, they may in turn ask the judge for a plea of
insanity due to the mental capacity of the victim.
If I was the defense attorney trying to defend either one of these two cases. I would not bring it to trial
because of the fact it would be hard for me to prove to the court that individuals was in there right
state of mind when the incidents occurred. Furthermore it would take intensive amount of time for the

Mental Illness Estimations
Estimation Errors and Criticisms Most of the data used to estimate prevalence of a mental illness is
collected through cross sectional studies that are obtained retrospectively. As a whole, Almansa et al.
(2014) go even further to state that epidemiological studies about lifetime disorders typically do not
use adequate methods of analysis (Almansa et al., 2014). Due to this cross sectional study design and
retrospective data collection, the estimations of lifetime prevalence obtained by direct computation
tend to underestimate the actual lifetime prevalence for the given mental illness or disorder (Almansa
et al., 2014). In order to understand how some of these basic prevalence calculations are made,
consider the following provided example. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be said to model the time to event data. The event of a survival analysis is the occurrence of
interest. In the context of this study, the occurrence would be the first symptom of a disorder. The time
for a survival analysis is the time until the event is observed, or the study is concluded. This time
observation can be measured in days, weeks, years, etc. (Despa, n.d.). The survival time would
indicate the time until the observed individual exhibits the first symptom for a disorder. A survival
function concentrates on the time until the desired event transpires. The cumulative probability of
events over time is calculated while adjusting other influential covariates (Singh Mukhopadhyay,
2011). If an individual in the study does not experience the event of interest during the study, then
their information becomes censored. Survival analysis is particularly useful when confronted by
censored data (Singh Mukhopadhyay, 2011). Censorship is a main component in developing functions
for survival analysis. For this study, censoring occurs when the information regarding the survival
time (time until the first symptom of a disorder occurs) is lacking; thus, there is information present
for a variable but it is not

Manufacturing Industry Of Chicago And Its Future
Until 19th century, in an industry, almost all the projects were handled by engineers themselves.
Halfway through the 20th century, project management evolved as a discipline in the field of
engineering, construction, manufacturing and defense. As industrial evolution took place complexity
of the projects undertaken by industry increased and organizations began applying management tools
and techniques to plan these complex projects. Nowadays, from past 30 40 years, project management
has been integral part of almost every industry. Be it a pharmaceutical, IT, healthcare or government
agency; project management thrives in it. Hence surely, it has changed the face of industrial project in
terms of planning, organizing and controlling the resources to achieve the desired goals. And it will
continue to do so in future. The article supports the claim that industrial project management has
changed over the years and will evolve more and more in the future also.
The Chicago Tribune article considers manufacturing industry of Chicago and its future in today s
world of globalization. By nature, manufacturing is heavily attached to process. Each process is
followed by another and product is built cumulatively at each step in sequential order and in quality
controlled environment. Project management is very effective in manufacturing industry because it is
also process based and various phases in project management affects product cycle in manufacturing

Almost all of the possible fixes a home owner can perform themselves will just cost a few dollars.

examine are the fins. The fins are thin metal flat strips resembling fine ridges. The purpose of these

airflow through the fins is restricted which in turn will prevent proper and effective heating and

which may allow leakage of the refrigerant. Should this take place, the leak may or may not be

Pentecostalism
Pentecostalism originated in 1901 in Topeka, Kansas. A woman named Agnes Ozman claimed to
become baptized with the Holy Spirit of God, and she started to speak in an unknown tongue . After
this event occurred, multiple events like these occurred in other places. This practice of Pentecostalism
was an addition to the Holiness Movement. In 1906, in Los Angeles, California, there was more

In the 1940s, Pentecostals began to find acceptance. Before the 1960s, there were some non
Pentecostal people who had been baptized with the Holy Spirit of God. Most of these people decided
that they would then keep it a secret but later join the Pentecostal Church. Around this time the theme
of Classic Pentecostalism had somewhat shifted. This became known as New Pentecostalism. At this
time there was the start of the Charismatic Movement. The supporters of the Charismatic Movement
started to stray people away from the traditional beliefs of Classic Pentecostalism. More recently,
there is a third wave of Pentecostalism that consists of non Pentecostal Christians whose beliefs are
mainly swayed towards the beliefs of Traditional Christianity. This third wave of Pentecostalism was
founded by C. Peter Wagner. These non Pentecostal Christians follow the practices of Traditional
Christianity, but they believe in the Spiritual gifts of God and the works of God. Members of the third
wave of Pentecostalism do not see being baptized by the Holy Spirit of God as an indicator. This third

Forecasting Methods Compare and Contrast
Forecast in a simple terms is a prediction thru a statement or claim that a particular event will occur in
the future. It looks like to me that almost the majority of the people, including children, once in their
life time were a forecasters, as sometimes in their past they?ve tried to predict any future event. This
act of making such prediction is therefore, called forecasting. Forecasts are never finished, they are
needed continuously and as the time passes, their accuracy and their impact on actual performance are
meas So it looks like that forecast in itself, is not too complicated, it becomes complicated once the
word ?good? is attached to it. Thus, the forecast has to be well thought and planned so it can be called

Delta airline is one clear example as it is the latest one to make use of the chapter 11. The remaining
of this paper will be talking about the different forecasting methods used by the airline industry to
make future prediction of passenger demand. The exactness of forecasts is very critical to the revenue
management system as lousy prediction of demand can lead to an incorrect decision making, which in
turn leads to a miserable revenue performance. So the airline industry, more than any other industry,
needs an accurate forecasting not only because of the September 11 occurrence, but also due to a very
high price of crude oil, which tends to increase the price of kerosene highly used by the industry. One
study identified as the Improved Forecast Accuracy in Airline Revenue Management (2001, Richard
Zeni) shows that airlines divide passengers into two large categories based on their sensitivity to price
and travel needs. These included business passengers and leisure passengers. This study has further
shown that business travelers have a tendency to make their arrangements close to their departure date
staying at their destination for only a short time. However, they did not show much flexibility on their
plans at all, but they were willingly to pay more money for their tickets. On the other hand, exactly the
opposite happened with leisure travelers. They usually booked their flights well ahead of their travel
date; stayed more time

How Does Esther Replace Vashti
Esther is like the Proverbs 31 woman; like Ruth and Judith, when Esther is queen she puts on not only
her beautiful royal clothing on, but also strength and dignity which are represented through the
clothing. Because Queen Vashti does not listen to King Ahasuerus, the king sent letters to every
province, declaring that every man should be mater in his own household (Esther 1:22). The king s
order is backward of the Proverbs 31 woman, who oversees the house. Esther is chosen by Ahasuerus
to replace Vashti as queen. After selected, she was given months of cosmetic treatments (2:8 9). Esther
then won the kings favor from the group of young virgins he systematically raped. Up until this point,

African American Stereotypes
For many years African Americans have been judged and stereotype based on their appearance.
African American women have been stereotyped as women that are angry, loud, argumentative,
entitled, and hypersexual. More simply, people tend to associate African American women with
negative stereotypes. Although women experience stereotypes women that have lighter skin tend to
have more privileges. Women with light skin tend to be more attractive, sophisticated, and successful.
Historically, people with light skin were beneath Caucasians but they were above African Americans.

Why Did The Comanche Tribes Gain Their Power
The Comanche were one of the most powerful Indian tribes that America has ever seen. They stopped
the Spanish from expanding to the north and farther into America. However they weren t always that
way. S.W. Gwynne compared them to a young, bullied boy who grew into a strong, vengeful man.
There were quite a few different factors that made the Comanche evolve into this powerhouse in the
west. The Comanche were able to hold this power for some time, that is, until things took a turn for
the worse, and they were forced to surrender and their power was gone. Before exploring how the
Comanche gained their power, one must look into the history of the Comanche tribe. The word comes
from a Ute word meaning anyone who wants to fight me all the time. The Comanche were originally
part of the Shoshone group, but 10,000 members left after they were introduced to horses. They
moved to the Texas and Oklahoma region. They chose that land specifically for the buffalo population.
This land they settled in was called Comancheria. Part of that land included the Llano Estacado, a

One of the most well known uses of the Comanche power is raiding. Over the time of their power,
there is an estimation of 20,000 captives taken by the Comanche tribes. The Comanche had a process
when it came to their raids. Adult males and newborns to the age of two would be killed. Children
from the age of three to ten would be taken as captives. Women would normally be raped and
sometimes killed. Once the Comanche realized they had low fertility rates, they started to take the
women as captives in order to raise their populations. The captives were also used as slaves to take
care of the livestock. The Comanche would do horrendous things to their captives and those they were
raiding. Examples are torture, gang rape, scalping,

Analysis Of Waking Sleeping Beauty
Rafiki, the wise baboon from The Lion King, explains to Simba that the past can hurt. But the way I
see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it. Rafiki teaches Simba a valuable lesson: to use other
peoples mistakes to avoid making the same ones; when people reflect on their past and are willing to
confront the mistakes head on, they can be very successful. Waking Sleeping Beauty gives viewers an
inside look from 1984 to 1994 when Disney reached the peak of The Disney Renaissance during this
period of time, Disney produced some of their best animated movies. Although Disney was successful
during this era, it took a lot of work for them to get to that stage. During the late 1960s and early
1970s, Disney was put into shambles due to the death of Walt Disney and his brother, Roy Disney.
Simultaneously, Disney produced The Black Cauldron which proved to be a failure; not only was it
expensive and made little return, it was beat out in the box office by The Care Bears Movie which was
an embarrassment for Disney Animation Studios. At this point in time Disney was a hopeless,
downwards spiral on its way towards bankruptcy. Disney needed a leader that was willing to take
charge and restore the company to its magical ways and beyond. Ultimately, Waking Sleeping Beauty
answers the following question: After their downfall, how was Disney able to recover and produce
successful movies in the 1980s and 1990s? The documentary has several responses to this question,
but its main focus explains that Disney was able to thrive once again by hiring new personnel in
leadership positions who were willing to lead Disney into The Disney Renaissance . By hiring Frank
Wells as Disney s COO and President, Michael Eisner as CEO and Chairman, and Jeffrey Katzenberg
as head of the film division, Disney was able to begin the transition from their greatest downfall to
their greatest success. These three men were ready to lead the company to avoid the same mistakes it
had made in the past. Although, Disney was looking to hire new leaders to steer the company into the
right direction, they wanted to make sure that the new personnel was qualified and fit for the job.

A Brief Look at Image Segmentation
Mei wang, Xiao Wei Wu, Hsiung Cheng Lin, Jian ping wang(2012) discussed the idea of following.
Today medical images are widely used. To achieve a clear and noise free images Image segmentation
is essential point. In this paper a new image segmentation method that is proportion of foreground to
background is used also called PFB. Using this method on human brain image we experiment the
result that the number of iteration steps for the threshold T is reduced. Using this method over
segmentation and discontinuities also can be avoided. Finally proposed a new method using both
Thresholding image segmentation and edge detection segmentation algorithm based on the Proportion
of Foreground to Background. After this the basic principal is define in this paper. Proportion of
Foreground to Background Algorithm combine the traditional iterative algorithm. Anita Khanna, Dr.
Manish Shrivastva(2012) In their paper they used unsupervised technique of segmentation which is
simple and give satisfactory result. We use Ultrasound (US) images and apply unsupervised
segmentation technique. There is a problem to segment Ultrasound image because of low contrast and
high speckle noise. In this paper we use different unsupervised technique like Thresholding; k means
cluster technique and expectation maximization and compare all the result. Ultrasound images are

Literary Devices In Amadeus
The music in Amadeus has been beyond the simple role as a background of the movie and greatly
influenced the flow of the narrative in the film. The movie Amadeus arouses realism and immersion in
the life of Mozart which is glorious but miserable at the same time by appropriately arranging the
narrative of the film with Mozart s great music. In other words, the soundtrack of the film composed
by Mozart works as the important dramatic device to describe Mozart s life, the main theme of the
movie ordinary people s jealousy of genius and the relationship between God and humans in further.
First of all, the Mozart s music in Amadeus is used to vividly illustrate the overall life of Mozart and
the situation in which Mozart s was in when he composed his music. The film Amadeus is based on
the play of the same title written by Peter Shaffer which is created depending on the rumor floating
around Vienna in the 1820s that Salieri poisoned Mozart. Even though it is revealed that the rumor,
which says, Mozart s death is related to Salieri, is not true by several historical researches, still
Amadeus depicts fictional life of Mozart in realistic way with appealing and enthrallment that the plot

decided upon YRE for academic reform hoping that the implementation of YRE would contribute to

Key Supervisory Issues And Improvement Of Banking Regulation
The financial instability of the past few years has provided important evidence that can be used for the
detection of dangerous flaws in the international banking system. After the financial crisis of 2008
2009, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision made significant steps in improving
understanding the key supervisory issues and improvement of banking regulation worldwide.
Subsequently, new standards were created for banking system regulation, which represents upgraded
capital requirements, liquidity norms, and additional monitoring tools for banking supervision and
regulation. These standards were first established in 2009 by the BCBS though some of the
Committee s proposals remain currently open for discussion.

This leads to increase from 4% (Basel II) to 8% of the risk weighted assets in requirements regarding
the Tier 1 Capital (which includes only common shares and undistributed profit). The second
important inclusion of Basel III relates to the size of balance sheets which banks should strive to
reduce: leverage ratio puts a limit on a list of activities a bank can develop compared to its capital. The
minimum capital adequacy ratio that is required to be maintained by a bank is 8% (without the capital
conservation buffer), which must reach 10,5% of the total assets. The third basic element of Basel III
relates to liquidity. To provide a bank for equilibrium between loans and deposits Basel III has
developed specific regulation which initiates with risk assessment through the stress test. Basel III
compels banks to have sufficient liquidity available during a period of 30 days of stressed conditions.
Under these circumstances only half serves to reimburse the bank and the bank is expected to inject
the other 50% in the economy by granting new loans. Thus, loans with a maturity of 50% leave the
bank once more. For deposits, Basel III states that the first group, individuals, and SMEs, leave the
bank at the rate of 5% to 10% during the stress test. While for bank deposits, it is 100%. For

realistic, like every detail of it was picked up by a high tech camera. The main focus of the image is
the front of the car closest to the foreground, with it going out towards the other parts making it one

Calamitatum Of The Individual Essay example
In the realm of critical thinking, Abelard undoubtedly ranked highly in his day. He was an expert
dialectician, philosopher and theologian, and as a result led a movement towards individual thinking.
He traveled a lonely path of individuality, and when his ideas were suppressed, he found different
ways to express his individuality. The beginning of his life was marked by extreme personal freedom.
As his journey through life continued, he found himself compounded with innumerable restrictions.

that he did not have to follow the same rules that other people did because he was superior to them.
The result was a man that did things differently, for better or for worse.
The second part of that statement lead Abelard down his next path of individuality, the first to cause

Euthanasia Should Be Legal Essay
Dogs do not have many advantages over people, but one of them is extremely important: euthanasia is
not forbidden by law in their case; animals have the right to a merciful death.
― Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being Euthanasia is a controversial issue. Many
people believe that doctors should not prescribe any medication that ends a person s life since it is

This type of euthanasia is practiced on persistent vegetative patients who cannot speak for themselves,
but who have said in the past that they would not have wanted to live that way. Active euthanasia is
commonly confused with physician assisted suicide. Physician assisted suicide is performed when a
physician, at a rational request of an adequately informed, competent patient who plans to commit
suicide, knowingly provides that patient with the medical means...and the patient uses those means to
commit suicide (Gert). Through this method, a physician does not actively kill the person, but simply
provides the person with the means to end their own life. For example, a doctor gives a patient an
injection of a morphine that is sufficient to cause their death, but does not administer it. In the other
hand, a physician actively kills a patient to end his or her suffering in active euthanasia. For instance, a
physician either overdoses the patient with pain killers or sleeping pills. Although they are done
differently, they both have the same purpose of ending a person s suffering and pain. Legalizing
euthanasia provides a way to relieve extreme pain. Modern medicine has brought great benefits to
humanity such as prolonging life, but by prolonging life it is also

Every point of view from the novel is solely based on where the story begins and where it ends.
Bunny, Robert, and James have a different point of view of Elizabeth. One perspective explains how
Elizabeth is seen as a heroic figure.
Another perspective explains how she is the person being protected. The final perspective points out
how and why Elizabeth was and will still be remembered as an important part and figure to the family
in the novel. It is believed that the story probably would not have the same understanding had it been
told from only one perspective by one of the main characters or the author himself. Each perspective
explains the development of her character overtime, more likely as what is noted of her as the novel
continues throughout.
The first part of the story is told from Bunny s perspective. He is learned to be the center of attention
in his family. Bunny is rather an insider who is attached to and heavily relies on protection from his

Ron Mueck Art Analysis
Ron Mueck. Wildman . A pale, tall figure looms over all who are in its presence, overwhelming and
shockingly real. The Giant, Wildman , a huge modal of a man, is nude, this nakedness, displayed for
all to see. This ultimate exposure is a symbol to modern culture as one of ultimate indecency and of
vulnerability. He sits on a simple, sturdy wooden stool. His pose is rigid, his knuckles are tightened
and white as he grips his seat, his eyes are wide with fear, accusing the society that has placed him on
this pedestal. Upon his head, a thick mane of curly hair sits, entwining with his bush like un kept
beard with greying strands throughout, reaching past his shoulders and ending midway down his
chest. The majority of his body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His legs are brought up to chest height, one leans against the wall with the rest of the right side of his
body. His head rests on a closed hand, disappearing behind the head and concealing the right ear. The
elbow is supported by the right knee of one of his folded legs. His other hand rests in the crook of the
right arm, the elbow of this arm, supported by the left knee. His round stomach is gently indented by
the thighs that are pressed against it, his navel protrudes from the smoothness of the surrounding belly.
Between the stomach and private area is a shadowed fold where the belly meets the lower body. The
toes of his large feet are slightly bent inward, with only the largest toes remaining flat against the
ground. His skin tone is pale, with slight pink discoloration in the usual places, such as the area
underneath the nose, natural blush of the cheeks and ears. The added freckles and more slight facial
discolorations create a perfected reality simulation. His eyes, partly shadowed by the overhanging
brow are turned to the left drawn to something in the distance. His face is creased with the lines of
age, more heavily indented around the main facial features, then fading into thinner lines as they move
away from them. Upon his face is a complicated expression, one which be interpreted as frustration or
anger, for the brow is slightly furrowed and one side his mouth is upturned with the impression of the
hand that supports the face. Alternatively the

Benedick Foil
Foils are common in any books, whether it s the antagonist bringing out the best in the antagonist or
the protagonist bringing out the worst in the antagonist. Foils are everywhere. In Much Ado About
Nothing written by William Shakespeare, almost all of the characters can foil each other in some way
or another. In the beginning, Claudio is falling for Hero on the day the meet. Hero is Leonato s
Daughter. The people throw a masquerade ball later that night where Claudio is deceived by Don John
that Don Pedro is wooing Hero for himself. Luckily for Claudio this rumor is false, and Claudio and
Hero were going to married in a week. Then Claudio is deceived once again by Don John that Hero is
cheating on him, on the night before the wedding. Then on the wedding day he publicly shames Hero.
In the end though, they realize the truth and end up getting married alongside Benedick and
Beatrice. In Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, Claudio is a foil to Benedick because
of the way they love, their personalities all together, and the way ... Show more content on

While they do end up changing traits as more things happen to them , they foil each other anyways.
After Claudio shames Hero at his wedding he wanders off. Enter Benedick about to challenge him to a
duel. Claudio tells Benedick Draw pleasure to us. (Shakespeare,86). The foil here is Claudio being
particularly mopey after he just shamed his wife at his wedding. Benedick treats Beatrice with respect
and would presumably ask her about it before the wedding and rationalize what s going on. Earlier in
the book Benedick says, I noted her not, but I looked on her. (Shakespeare,6). While this may
contradict what I just said, this is toward the beginning of the book when he only loved himself. At the
same time during this quote Claudio is confessing his love for Hero. To Claudio that could be a little
insulting. Luckily towards the end of the book Benedick becomes a much better

A Family Of Transcription Factors
Introduction
1. The Grainyhead (Grh) gene family
Grainyhead (Grh) genes are conserved in metazoans. They encode a family of transcription factors
with a unique, unusually large, DNA binding and dimerization domain, and an isoleucine rich
activation domain(Attardi and Tjian, 1993; Gustavsson et al., 2008; Moussian and Uv, 2005; Ting et
al., 2003b; Uv et al., 1994; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). Grh factors were first
identified in Drosophila (Bray et al., 1989; Bray and Kafatos, 1991; Dynlacht et al., 1989; Johnson et
al., 1989) and since then, they were also found in animals as diverse as nematodes and humans. Grh
proteins have not yet been detected in unicellular organisms. Phylogenetic analysis subdivides this
gene family into two main classes, the Grh like sub family and the CP2 sub family, depending whether
the family members are more related to the Drosophila grh, or to another Drosophila gene, CP2 (Ting
et al., 2003b; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). The fly and worm genomes each
contain a single grh gene. Mammals, both mice and humans, have evolved three Grh homologues: Grh
like 1 (Grhl 1, or Mammalian Grainyhead (MGR)/TFCP2L2), Grhl 2 (Brother of MGR
(BOM)/TFCP2L3) and Grhl 3 (Sister of MGR (SOM)/ TFCP2L4). This group of genes encodes
proteins with highly homologous DNA binding and dimerization domains. They all show restricted
expression pattern during embryogenesis and play important roles in organogenesis and epidermal

The Watchman As A Hero In Alan Moore s Watchmen
A cornerstone work in the world of graphic novels, Alan Moore s Watchmen provides a rich plot for
readers while pushing them to question the world in which they live. One such question suggested by
the text is what it means to be a hero or a good guy , and to what extent bad acts are redeemable.
Through the Comedian, Moore provides a character who skirts the line between good and evil in that
he uses aggressive methods for achieving his goals, but is still considered a hero. Furthermore, the
Comedian, also known as Edward Blake, though not the only overly violent hero, is most always cast
in a negative light, with few redeeming qualities, suggesting that the small good he does is not enough
to outweigh the bad.
The identity of the Comedian is slowly revealed through the course of the book, with several key
scenes demonstrating his twisted worldview. One of the first sources of characterization is his
attempted rape of Silk Spectre. At that point in time, no other source of identity has been given, so for
the duration of the novel, the reader must absorb all new information knowing the evil he is capable
of, and has committed. In providing a negative first impression of the Comedian, Moore forces readers
to subconsciously interpret any new information presented about him in a dark light, and in doing so,
suggests that redemption is not possible for Blake. In addition, the juxtaposition of Blake as a hero
who first appears as a rapist forces the reader to take into question

  • 2. Extending High School High school is like a spork: it s a crappy spoon and a crappy fork, so in the end it s just plain useless. John Mayer Many people when asked will tell you that high school is pointless except for being essential to gain higher education. No student will tell you that adding two years to their already exhausting four years of high school is a good idea especially if the extra years are going to be exactly like the rest of their high school experience. However if the extra two years are constructed with brand new curriculum and help prepare students efficiently for what is to come in college, then it could be very beneficial. It has become apparent that many students drop out of college within their first year. My principals of business teacher, Mr. Eeg, has told me numerous amounts of time that he has students who return from their dream colleges after just one year to instead go to De Anza or Foothill because their college life was too hectic for them. They claim it was too much reading, too much homework, and not enough of an actual life out of school and/or work. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Meeting At Seward County Community College Essay Meeting Characteristics for Conflict Management and Resolution Meetings are a common tool used by companies and organizations for a variety of purposes, and they can be implemented in a variety of ways. Properly implemented, meetings can be effective, productive, and increase involvement of the participants at the meetings. If not implemented properly, meetings can be costly as well as unproductive for both the leader and the participants. By examining recent meeting characteristics of Wheatridge Park Care Center and the Phi Theta Kappa organization at Seward County Community College, a better understanding of the positive and negative aspects of various meeting styles may be explored through applying and analyzing the events of the meeting against conflict management principles recommended in Raines (2013). Wheatridge Park Care Center Meeting Wheatridge Park Care Center has demonstrated several aspects that adhere to the suggestions of Raines (2013), and that have worked well for the participants at the meetings. Wheatridge Park s meetings can be broken down into two parts, which are the department meetings and the all staff meetings. Each of the five departments at Wheatridge Park Care Center conducts department meetings once a month with the employees in that department. The department meetings typically address issues such as information employees need to know, changes in the department, dealing with nonstructural sources of conflict, and build on team cognition. ... Northern Drilling: Introduction Northern Drilling Inc. was established as a subsidiary of Europe s InterDrilling Corporation, the world s third largest exploration drilling contractor, in 2006 to take on a new frontier in Canada. A seasoned veteran in the drilling exploration field for more than 30 years, Peter Bremner took the helm as general manager to build its Canadian division as an opportunity to take advantage of a potentially untapped resource goldmine . Northern Drilling prided itself as an extremely specialized, full service drilling exploration company being technically sound along with keeping the highest safety standards in the industry. They are predominantly hired by large mining companies, with RFP s (Request for Proposal), to explore the possible existence of valuable ore deposits, mostly in remote locations and occasionally in harsh conditions. The industry as a whole is known as diamond exploration drilling, however it s not limited to one mineral, but rather anything from industrial minerals such as salts or limestone to scarcer elements found beneath earth s surface (Bremner, 2012). The ore drilling industry is especially competitive comprised of approximately 80 many smaller, more specialized commodity type contractors. They threaten the much larger contractors such as Northern as they are able to accept RFP s on very thin margins with little to no overhead. • 7. Analysis Of George Orwell s War, And The Wisdom Of The... London not only uses the wild nature of dogs but also uses human s wild instinct. In his stories of War, and To the Wisdom of the Trail, London uses the brutalness of natural intuition to show survival of the fittest. In the story War, a scout lets an enemy scout live, just to be killed by that same scout. This is ironic, and London uses this irony to show that humans are willing to kill when their own life is in peril. The need to survive is a very crucial piece of this story, and the narrator lets his emotions get in the way of his instinct. Nature also plays a key role. In this case, nature is a foil to the theme. London draws a stark contrast between the tranquility of nature, and the brutality that is human nature. This highlights how brutal the human intuition, a part of nature, in the beautiful landscape of the forest. Jeanne Reesman writes, While nature shows her fecundity with images of great forests and the golden pollen that hangs in the air, men kill each other as strangers (Reesman. War ). Nature in this story is seen in the instinct of the living scout, as well as in the emotion of the narrator. The narrator is killed leaving the reader to think that the beauty of nature is inferior to natural instinct. Nature and the narrator are very similar in this story, both are calm and worry free. The Scout who lives is brutal, and wild, like the nature that is traditionally described in London s work. The prevailing scout goes to his natural instinct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I walked into the cold, musty smelling room as my coaches all stared at me with big smiles on their faces. Based on this hypothesis, the Prey model was presented by Charnov and his colleagues David Stephens and John Krebs in Foraging Theory, in which Charnov assumed that searching for food costs animals something, the energy that it takes to search. To create an artificial foraging environment, they places a rubber conveyor r belt under the cage, where the food was placed and timed as to when it will appear on the belt. With 5 birds and testing their initial patterns, they formulated a hypothesis as to which birds will eat large vs small mealworm . The aim is to achieve short term financial gain and long term brand equity. Since IMC is all about using different Media vehicles, the most effective one is Television; such as Reality television shows which has many benefits and contributions especially when it comes to creating a successful brand. There are two reality television shows that has been analysed from the first part of this assignment and they are: Keeping up with the Kardashians and My Kitchen Rules, which I will then discuss how it relates to branding. Brand equity is important to create and maintain as it is an intangible asset of added value as well as goodwill that will then result from the favourable image, impressions of differentiation and the strength of consumer attachment to brand name, company name or trademark. The stronger the equity the better it positions the company as well as its brand which is only often reinforced through advertising or even sponsoring. Gracchus did not consult the senate regarding this measure and instead brought it before the popular assembly. His reason for doing so might have been that he believed it would get bogged down in the senate, as it was a bill directly affecting their finances or perhaps it was because he only had one year to act and realized the immediate need for reform. However Tiberius had friends in the senate and it is possible that the bill may have got through if he had followed procedure and if the senators put the needs of the republic before their own. • 14. The Effects Of Increasing Minimum Wage On The United States The Effects of Increasing Minimum Wage Caroline Mattox Central Virginia Community College Introduction In 1938, the first national minimum wage laws in the United States were passed as part of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which served as a floor below wages, to reduce poverty and to ensure that economic growth is shared across the workforce. Today, many people who work for companies that pay at or near the minimum wage and remain near or below the poverty level rely on government health and food security and income programs to supplement their living expenses. Since 1938, there have been many additional policies to the Fair Labor Standards Act that have changed many things, such as increasing the national minimum wage numerous times to the currently salary level, which was set in 1997. The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, from the United States Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division, was a policy to change the federal minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 in three additions, which began in July of 2009. (U.S., 2009). There has been many conversations about what the positive impacts can come to America s lowest income workers as a result of an increase in the minimum wage, and there has also been equally as many discussions over the negative effects the increase can have on similar people. This paper s purpose is to combine each viewpoint and objectively analyze the arguments for and against an increase in the minimum wage. I will first discuss the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mental Illness Estimations Estimation Errors and Criticisms Most of the data used to estimate prevalence of a mental illness is collected through cross sectional studies that are obtained retrospectively. As a whole, Almansa et al. (2014) go even further to state that epidemiological studies about lifetime disorders typically do not use adequate methods of analysis (Almansa et al., 2014). Due to this cross sectional study design and retrospective data collection, the estimations of lifetime prevalence obtained by direct computation tend to underestimate the actual lifetime prevalence for the given mental illness or disorder (Almansa et al., 2014). It can be said to model the time to event data. The event of a survival analysis is the occurrence of interest. In the context of this study, the occurrence would be the first symptom of a disorder. The time for a survival analysis is the time until the event is observed, or the study is concluded. This time observation can be measured in days, weeks, years, etc. (Despa, n.d.). The survival time would indicate the time until the observed individual exhibits the first symptom for a disorder. A survival function concentrates on the time until the desired event transpires. The cumulative probability of events over time is calculated while adjusting other influential covariates (Singh Mukhopadhyay, 2011). If an individual in the study does not experience the event of interest during the study, then their information becomes censored. Survival analysis is particularly useful when confronted by censored data (Singh Mukhopadhyay, 2011). Censorship is a main component in developing functions for survival analysis. For this study, censoring occurs when the information regarding the survival time (time until the first symptom of a disorder occurs) is lacking; thus, there is information present for a variable but it is not ... Halfway through the 20th century, project management evolved as a discipline in the field of engineering, construction, manufacturing and defense. As industrial evolution took place complexity of the projects undertaken by industry increased and organizations began applying management tools and techniques to plan these complex projects. Nowadays, from past 30 40 years, project management has been integral part of almost every industry. Be it a pharmaceutical, IT, healthcare or government agency; project management thrives in it. Hence surely, it has changed the face of industrial project in terms of planning, organizing and controlling the resources to achieve the desired goals. And it will continue to do so in future. Almost all of the possible fixes a home owner can perform themselves will just cost a few dollars. Theses fixes, however, fall under maintaining rather than outright repair. The fins are thin metal flat strips resembling fine ridges. The purpose of these fins are to dissipate heat, much like the radiator does in a car. Many home improvement stores sell fin combs which are used to straightened bent fins, however, if the fins are mashed enough or show other signs of wear or damage a professional technician should be called to inspect the unit. A second visual inspection should be made regarding the placement and the way the compressor is mounted on the pad. If the unit is not in a level position, problems can occur. Should the outside unit shift, tubing connections can be damaged which may allow leakage of the refrigerant. Should this take place, the leak may or may not be noticeable immediately. Delta airline is one clear example as it is the latest one to make use of the chapter 11. The remaining of this paper will be talking about the different forecasting methods used by the airline industry to make future prediction of passenger demand. The exactness of forecasts is very critical to the revenue management system as lousy prediction of demand can lead to an incorrect decision making, which in turn leads to a miserable revenue performance. So the airline industry, more than any other industry, needs an accurate forecasting not only because of the September 11 occurrence, but also due to a very high price of crude oil, which tends to increase the price of kerosene highly used by the industry. One study identified as the Improved Forecast Accuracy in Airline Revenue Management (2001, Richard Zeni) shows that airlines divide passengers into two large categories based on their sensitivity to price and travel needs. These included business passengers and leisure passengers. This study has further shown that business travelers have a tendency to make their arrangements close to their departure date staying at their destination for only a short time. However, they did not show much flexibility on their plans at all, but they were willingly to pay more money for their tickets. Waking Sleeping Beauty gives viewers an inside look from 1984 to 1994 when Disney reached the peak of The Disney Renaissance during this period of time, Disney produced some of their best animated movies. Although Disney was successful during this era, it took a lot of work for them to get to that stage. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Disney was put into shambles due to the death of Walt Disney and his brother, Roy Disney. Simultaneously, Disney produced The Black Cauldron which proved to be a failure; not only was it expensive and made little return, it was beat out in the box office by The Care Bears Movie which was an embarrassment for Disney Animation Studios. At this point in time Disney was a hopeless, downwards spiral on its way towards bankruptcy. Disney needed a leader that was willing to take charge and restore the company to its magical ways and beyond. Ultimately, Waking Sleeping Beauty answers the following question: After their downfall, how was Disney able to recover and produce successful movies in the 1980s and 1990s? The documentary has several responses to this question, but its main focus explains that Disney was able to thrive once again by hiring new personnel in leadership positions who were willing to lead Disney into The Disney Renaissance . By hiring Frank Wells as Disney s COO and President, Michael Eisner as CEO and Chairman, and Jeffrey Katzenberg as head of the film division, Disney was able to begin the transition from their greatest downfall to their greatest success. Three Perspectives In The Novel They Came Like Swallows Graeme Gigante English 204 Essay # 2 Three Perspectives of They Came Like Swallows by William Maxwell In the novel They Came Like Swallows , author William Maxwell tells the same story from three different perspectives, each one being told from a point of view by a different character in the family from the novel. The first perspective was told by the youngest son in the family, Peter (nicknamed Bunny ), the second perspective told by the older son, Robert, and the third and last perspective told by the father/husband, James Morrison. Each member from the family holds important aspects when it comes to closeness between family members. These aspects are told from a different side from each speaker s outlook, however, these different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every point of view from the novel is solely based on where the story begins and where it ends. Bunny, Robert, and James have a different point of view of Elizabeth. One perspective explains how Elizabeth is seen as a heroic figure. Another perspective explains how she is the person being protected. The final perspective points out how and why Elizabeth was and will still be remembered as an important part and figure to the family in the novel. It is believed that the story probably would not have the same understanding had it been told from only one perspective by one of the main characters or the author himself. Each perspective explains the development of her character overtime, more likely as what is noted of her as the novel continues throughout. The first part of the story is told from Bunny s perspective. He is learned to be the center of attention in his family. Bunny is rather an insider who is attached to and heavily relies on protection from his mother (Elizabeth Morison). Bunny was the one known to be the most favored child and put first in line over his older brother Robert. From day in and day out , Robert has constantly made Bunny s life miserable as possible. The Giant, Wildman , a huge modal of a man, is nude, this nakedness, displayed for all to see. This ultimate exposure is a symbol to modern culture as one of ultimate indecency and of vulnerability. He sits on a simple, sturdy wooden stool. His pose is rigid, his knuckles are tightened and white as he grips his seat, his eyes are wide with fear, accusing the society that has placed him on this pedestal. Upon his head, a thick mane of curly hair sits, entwining with his bush like un kept beard with greying strands throughout, reaching past his shoulders and ending midway down his chest. His other hand rests in the crook of the right arm, the elbow of this arm, supported by the left knee. His round stomach is gently indented by the thighs that are pressed against it, his navel protrudes from the smoothness of the surrounding belly. Between the stomach and private area is a shadowed fold where the belly meets the lower body. The toes of his large feet are slightly bent inward, with only the largest toes remaining flat against the ground. His skin tone is pale, with slight pink discoloration in the usual places, such as the area underneath the nose, natural blush of the cheeks and ears. The added freckles and more slight facial discolorations create a perfected reality simulation. His eyes, partly shadowed by the overhanging brow are turned to the left drawn to something in the distance. His face is creased with the lines of age, more heavily indented around the main facial features, then fading into thinner lines as they move away from them. Upon his face is a complicated expression, one which be interpreted as frustration or anger, for the brow is slightly furrowed and one side his mouth is upturned with the impression of the hand that supports the face. • 42. Benedick Foil Foils are common in any books, whether it s the antagonist bringing out the best in the antagonist or the protagonist bringing out the worst in the antagonist. Foils are everywhere. In Much Ado About Nothing written by William Shakespeare, almost all of the characters can foil each other in some way or another. In the beginning, Claudio is falling for Hero on the day the meet. Hero is Leonato s Daughter. The people throw a masquerade ball later that night where Claudio is deceived by Don John that Don Pedro is wooing Hero for himself. Luckily for Claudio this rumor is false, and Claudio and Hero were going to married in a week. Then Claudio is deceived once again by Don John that Hero is cheating on him, on the night before the wedding. Then on the wedding day he publicly shames Hero. In the end though, they realize the truth and end up getting married alongside Benedick and Beatrice. In Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, Claudio is a foil to Benedick because of the way they love, their personalities all together, and the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While they do end up changing traits as more things happen to them , they foil each other anyways. After Claudio shames Hero at his wedding he wanders off. Enter Benedick about to challenge him to a duel. Claudio tells Benedick Draw pleasure to us. (Shakespeare,86). The foil here is Claudio being particularly mopey after he just shamed his wife at his wedding. Benedick treats Beatrice with respect and would presumably ask her about it before the wedding and rationalize what s going on. Earlier in the book Benedick says, I noted her not, but I looked on her. (Shakespeare,6). While this may contradict what I just said, this is toward the beginning of the book when he only loved himself. At the same time during this quote Claudio is confessing his love for Hero. To Claudio that could be a little insulting. Luckily towards the end of the book Benedick becomes a much better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. A Family Of Transcription Factors Introduction 1. The Grainyhead (Grh) gene family Grainyhead (Grh) genes are conserved in metazoans. They encode a family of transcription factors with a unique, unusually large, DNA binding and dimerization domain, and an isoleucine rich activation domain(Attardi and Tjian, 1993; Gustavsson et al., 2008; Moussian and Uv, 2005; Ting et al., 2003b; Uv et al., 1994; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). Grh factors were first identified in Drosophila (Bray et al., 1989; Bray and Kafatos, 1991; Dynlacht et al., 1989; Johnson et al., 1989) and since then, they were also found in animals as diverse as nematodes and humans. Grh proteins have not yet been detected in unicellular organisms. Phylogenetic analysis subdivides this gene family into two main classes, the Grh like sub family and the CP2 sub family, depending whether the family members are more related to the Drosophila grh, or to another Drosophila gene, CP2 (Ting et al., 2003b; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). The fly and worm genomes each contain a single grh gene. Mammals, both mice and humans, have evolved three Grh homologues: Grh like 1 (Grhl 1, or Mammalian Grainyhead (MGR)/TFCP2L2), Grhl 2 (Brother of MGR (BOM)/TFCP2L3) and Grhl 3 (Sister of MGR (SOM)/ TFCP2L4). This group of genes encodes proteins with highly homologous DNA binding and dimerization domains. They all show restricted expression pattern during embryogenesis and play important roles in organogenesis and epidermal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Watchman As A Hero In Alan Moore s Watchmen A cornerstone work in the world of graphic novels, Alan Moore s Watchmen provides a rich plot for readers while pushing them to question the world in which they live. One such question suggested by the text is what it means to be a hero or a good guy , and to what extent bad acts are redeemable. Through the Comedian, Moore provides a character who skirts the line between good and evil in that he uses aggressive methods for achieving his goals, but is still considered a hero. Furthermore, the Comedian, also known as Edward Blake, though not the only overly violent hero, is most always cast in a negative light, with few redeeming qualities, suggesting that the small good he does is not enough to outweigh the bad. The identity of the Comedian is slowly revealed through the course of the book, with several key scenes demonstrating his twisted worldview. One of the first sources of characterization is his attempted rape of Silk Spectre. At that point in time, no other source of identity has been given, so for the duration of the novel, the reader must absorb all new information knowing the evil he is capable of, and has committed. In providing a negative first impression of the Comedian, Moore forces readers to subconsciously interpret any new information presented about him in a dark light, and in doing so, suggests that redemption is not possible for Blake. In addition, the juxtaposition of Blake as a hero who first appears as a rapist forces the reader to take into question ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
