The Decade Of The 1970 s
Never has a decade been as influential to humanity s progression as the 70s. The 1970s was a
strong and powerful decade. It is the decade that brought glam rock and witnessed the rise and fall
of disco. Much more than a decade of hippies and pop culture. They were a time of great political
movement and scandal. It was the decade that ended the VietnamWar and legalized abortion. The
decade that brought Jane Fonda, Robert Redford, and John Travolta to fame. Movies that had
never been socially acceptable seen time on the big screen, movies like Jaws, Saturday Night
Fever, Rocky and Star Wars. The 1970 s would be home to many events and technological advances
that would come to shape our society today.

Different Types of Sensors and Their Applications
Capacitive Sensors
Capacitive sensors use an array capacitor plates to image the fingerprint. Skin is conductive
enough to provide a capacitive coupling with an individual capacitive element on the array.
Ridges, being closer to the detector, have a higher capacitance and valleys have a lower
capacitance. Some capacitive sensors apply a small voltage to the finger to enhance the signal and
create better image contrast.
Capacitive sensors can be sensitive to electrostatic discharge (shock) but they are insensitive to
ambient lighting and are more resist contamination issues than some optical designs.
Optical Sensors
Optical sensors use arrays of photodiode or phototransistor detectors to convert the energy in light
incident on the detector into electrical charge. The sensor package usually includes a light emitting
diode (LED) to illuminate the finger.
There are two detector types used by optical sensors, charge coupled devices (CCD) and CMOS
based optical imagers. CCD detectors are sensitive to low light levels and are capable of making
excellent grayscale pictures. However, CCD fabrication is relatively expensive and neither low
light sensitivity or grayscale imaging are required for fingerprint recognition. CMOS optical
imagers are manufactured in quantity and can be made with some of the image processing steps
built into the chip resulting in a lower cost.
Optical sensors for fingerprints may be affected by a number of real world factors such as stray
light and

I m going to look at Band 2 within the professional area of Learning and Development. I think the
following 4 areas are most relevant, and in order, to my current role of Trainer at the British
Council:
6.4.2. Facilitate internal leaning events and workshops, delivering content as appropriate.
A major part of my role is the development and delivery of training materials. This involves a
degree of event and people management, but essentially I must be able to provide the knowledge
that the organisation needs in a digestible format.
6.11.2. Continually seek ways to improve learning and talent development activity to best meet
individual or managers requirements.
In a global organisation with a range of different needs and cultural approaches, flexibility from the
trainer is imperative, as is the need to change and adapt where required. It s important to address the
immediate but also longer term needs of learning and development across my organisation and
analyse these in tandem with HR and the teams themselves to develop a strategy for improvement
that fits in with the organisational, as well as team objectives.

Lord Of The Flies Ego Superego Analysis
In every human being, a constant battle is occurring between two very diverse consciences.
William Golding portrayed this battle through his novel, Lord of the Flies, and with Sigmund
Freud s psychoanalysis theories of ID, Ego, and Superego. ID usually delineates the avarice and
guile side of the soul. Superego, however, represents the euphonious and benign voice of the soul.
The Ego is a balance of the two and is gullible to the forces of both voices. Golding uses these three
forces to show that without the pureness of the conscience, human spiritis innately evil and
corruptible. Thus, Golding uses Freud s ID, Ego, and Superego to demonstrate the overall theme of
the flexibility of the human spirit towards evil through Jack s recklessness, Ralph s senseof balance,
and Simon s cherubic attitude.
The character of Jack symbolizes the ID side of the soul because of his recklessness through his
obsession with hunting and fun on the island. His obsession started when he felt the power from
killing his first pig, He noticed blood on his hands and grimaced distastefully, looked for
something on which to clean them, then wiped them on his shorts and laughed ... We ll go
hunting every day (Golding 69/70). This quote shows that when the ID receives power, it will
take full advantage of it and will enjoy it, just like Jack did when he saw the blood from the pig.
This quote also shows that how the ID treats everything as a game and something to laugh at, which
is exactly what Jack

Evolution Of The Suburbs
For many decades, living out the American dream has meant living in the suburbs, surrounded by
a white picket fence, with two and a half children, far from the noisy city. However, many people
claim that in a couple years, the suburbs will be no more, and everyone will commence the
migration back to the city. In order to understand this debatable topic, it is important to explore
the rise of suburbs and what caused people to move out miles away from their place of work and
center city in the first place. To be able to explore what caused the creation of suburbs, it is also
important to understand what a walking city is. According to Jackson, a walking city must have
five main characteristics. First off, a walking city must have congestion,... Show more content on

Many people believe that suburbs are just a rebellion, of sorts, against cities. It became known
as the, white flight from central city. The government was blamed due to lack of care for cities
and increased support of the suburbs. There were federal policies that were interpreted to protect
suburbs and seen as a way to continue racial segregation. It was many times advertised that
suburbs were a way to continue living with, people like us. Cost played a key part in this move
as well. It was inexpensive because there was an abundancy. Highways and utilities were often
subsidized whenever they were in rural areas because of national policy. However, policy did not
require the government to repair streets, bridges, or sewer lines in cities. Daniel Boone, a well
known settler, left the city and moved west because the high population of cities made him feel
confined and with too many restraints. Inhabitants of cities did not need much more of a push to
take advantage and move out to rural spaces where their lifestyle became much cheaper and
happier. As Jackson states, suburbanization was not a historical inevitability created by geography,
technology, and culture, but rather the product of government policies. In effect, the social costs of
low density living have been paid by the general taxpayer rather than only by suburban residents,

Rational Choice Theory And Delinquency
The Rational choice theory is a belief that children choose to commit criminal acts once they have
carefully considered the pros and cons of their actions, and that delinquency is a matter of choice
that is made by an offender; who believes that what they can gain from committing a crime
outweighs the punishment that may follow. Rational Choice theoryis probably the oldest known
theory which attempts to explain the link between juveniles and delinquency. The argument was
first raised by classical criminologist, Cesare Beccaria. Beccaria, along with other classical
criminologists, believed that because people have free will. They have the ability to choose their
behavior, and when an individual makes a decision to break the law, it is typically

Assesment of Drug Trafficking Example
Assessment of Human Trafficking

Abstract
Assessing the crime of Human Trafficking over the Arizona border from Mexico there were a lot of
effective methods and non effective methods used when trying to prevent human trafficking. It was
most commonly found in my research, there were more ineffective methods than effective ones.
During the assessment I continually focus on the more positive ways to combat human trafficking
because of the significant impact the positive results have been outweighing the negative and
ineffective results. What was discovered is that the border patrol is an extremely answer to finding

It was stated by homeland security that besides the pilots, the passengers on each plane is told to
stay vigilant and informed of the basic indicators of human trafficking. (U.S. customs/ border
protection 2014) Before this was put into effect human traffickers were able to hide from ground
patrol and are still able to today, but with the use of passenger planes being able to detect
movement of traffickers and report it making it easier to catch and apprehend traffickers. It has
been shown to work tremendously and continually proves to be a very good solution. Taking a new
approach a campaign has been started by victims of human trafficking and homeland security. It is
called the blue campaign and its focus is to bring light to the situation of human trafficking. It is the
unified voice for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security s (DHS) efforts to combat human
trafficking. Working in collaboration with law enforcement, government, non governmental and
private organizations, also offers training to law enforcement and others to increase detection and
investigation of human trafficking, and to protect victims and bring suspected traffickers to justice.

The Relationship Between Meditation and Mental and...
Rooting back to its ancient times, meditation has been around for thousands of years, especially in
the Eastern part of the world and has spread to the Western countries in early 1970s.
Contrary to what I initially believe meditation is, prior to taking this course, which is the mental
concentration on something, meditation is actually a thoughtless awareness of an individual s
surroundings. Dhyana, the generic Sanskrit term for meditation is so much more than being alone
with one s thoughts, it is about the state of mind being calm but alert.
Sogyal Rinpoche in The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying said that it is through meditation that
you are able to go on a journey to discover yourself, paving the way to enlightenment.1 ... Show

This will lead to a better memory and the ability to recall facts faster.
According to studies by Chiesa and Seretti, 2009 and Hassed, 1996, meditation also relieves
stress and seems to be an effective way to increase overall general well being as it reduces the
production of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline.5,6
Bloomberg also reported a study by John Denninger, a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School
showing that meditation also wards of diseases.7
Meditation boosts the immune system, making people who practice it less susceptible to falling sick.
Where when will I meditate?
Ideally, the rooftop, by the private pool or the balcony would also be good locations to carry out
the meditation, as it is secluded, quiet and tranquil so that I can truly be with myself. I should
also draw up a schedule to allocate time to meditate in a comfortable, quiet and safe environment
such as my apartment to truly enjoy the meditation. I should also always make it a point to not
rush through my meditation as it lowers the effectiveness of it. If I were to be busy, I would not
force myself to meditate because it would not be sincere.
I will meditate early in the morning, as it is the quietest time of

V2 Rocket
The creation of the V 2 rocket was a very important and impactful invention by the German.
There have been many cultural and social factors related to the creation of this rocket seeing
how it was built during World War 2. The creation of this rocket has also made a huge impact on
the U.S. and their aerospace field. There were many cultural factor in the development of the
V2, one of those factors was that the Nazis party believed that Germans were the pinnacle of the
human race, the Aryan race; thus, planning to instill fear into their enemies the development of
the V2, a long range ballistic missiles, came to be. (Edward, 2011) The V2 was supposed to
bombard England but was delayed until 1944 which at this point England had already been
bombarded for over four years by conventional artillery. (Edward, 2011) Another cultural factor
that played into the development of the V2 was the recession that afflicted Germany prior to the
World War. The recession was one of the major reasons that led to the rise of Nazi party in
Germany and the war that followed. It can be argued that if Germany did not experience a
recession, there would not have been a world war or a need to develop the V2.... Show more content

Another social factor was the fact that the rocket was developed in Nazi Germany. Since Nazi
party was the one that was developing the rocket, many of the V2 rockets were developed by
slaves or prisoners from concentration camps instead of those from the Nazi party to try and
reduce the cost towards the war effort. (Hollingham, 2014) However this led several defective

George Mcclellan And Robert E. Lee
In war, the commander in chief makes or breaks the efficiency and effectiveness of the army. The
Civil War involved 3 main commanders in chief of the Union and Confederate Army. Through
letters written by these three leaders, Ulysses S. Grant, George McClellan and Robert E. Lee, it is
evident that their opinions and strategies differed greatly. While Grant considered himself part of
the army, Lee separated himself as a ruling commander. Grant s humble nature and vast knowledge
on war technique also made him a more efficient leader, compared to the egotistical George
McClellan, another commander of the Union army. Ultimately, Grant and the union army won the
war, because of Grant s hands on leaderships skills, while Lee lacked confidence in his troops,
causing him to remove himself from his men.
Throughout his time as commander in chief of the union army, Ulysses S. Grant understood and
appreciated the commitment his soldiers made, as suggested by letters to his family, which forced
him to focus greatly on war technique, ultimately allowing him to be a great leader of the Union
army. In a letter written to his Father, in which he discusses the war, Grant states, I do not wish to
act hastily or unadvisedly in the matter. Grant s cautiousness and attention to details, when his
troops and his army are concerned, shows that all decisions he makes concerning his troops have
been carefully thought out, so he doesn t put his troops in danger. Grant wishes to give all the

Emergency Department Bottleneck Proposal
Introduction
Most hospitals experience the affects of the unexpected, ambiguity and uncertainty, and as a result,
face challenges with quality. Middletown Hospital is a 200 bed general not for profit hospital. The
hospital has a 20 bed Emergency Department (ED). It averages 100 patients per day. The CEO of
the hospital has been receiving numerous complaints about long waits for care and poor service
and has charged the Six Sigma team to analyze the root cause of the bottleneck (University of
Phoenix, 2011 Course Syllabus). This paper analyses the root cause ... Show more content on

Using time motion studies will give the team a complete assessment of the patient flow from
registration to dismissal from the emergency room. Time motion studies will involve a step by
step measurement of the length of time the patient spends in each phase of the process.
Examining the cycle times over several days can identify the time bottlenecks are occurring in the
patient flow process and at what stage. The goal of capacity planning is to ensure that patients
move along the shortest and least costly path by avoiding as many delays as possible (Rechel,
Wright, Barlow, McKee, 2010). Using capacity planning will systematically guide the team through
analysis of the demand and availability of resources. Scheduling and controlling techniques With
the six sigma authority in place, the first recommendation is to change the scheduling pattern of
the shifts. By doing so they can put more doctors and nurses on the shift that falls from 6:00 to
9:00 p.m. where the overloading of patients comes into the emergency room. When this is done, it
will have adequate assistance to help with the high volume of patients coming into the emergency
room during the 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. hours. If more doctors and nurses are on that shift, more patients
will be seen and taken care of at a faster time and the turnaround rate will be more than suffice.

The Message Of Osama Bin Laden
On May 1, 2011 many Americans received the message we never thought would come. Every
single American was glued to their television sets that evening for a message we would never
forget. It had been previously leaked to the public that maybe Osama Bin Laden had in fact been
killed, but it was still uncertain until President Obama addressed the nation confirming his death.
This ten minute speech awaited the ears of millions of Americans longing for justice, and that night
it had been served. Barrack Obama was able to convey his message using various rhetorical
devices, making his speech one that was truly effective and memorable.
Our recollection of Osama Bin Laden began on a day that will live in history for years to come.
On September 11th 2011, terrorist hijacked four jetliners. Two planes were flown in to the World
Trade Center towers in New York City, one into the Pentagon, and the other crashed into a field in
southern Pennsylvania. These terrorist who hijacked these planes and caused the loss of thousands
of lives were part of Osama Bin Laden s terrorist group, al Qaeda. Due to this horrific tragedy,
Americans became emotionally scarred and were scared of the world around them. Osama
became one of the most wanted men alive, and Americans wanted justice. For ten years we
waited for the answer that he was caught, but On May 11th prayers were finally answered.

ending the Depression. Roosevelt was willing to try anything to try and end the depression.
Congress passed many acts and there were fifteen major acts passed in the first Hundred Days of

different backgrounds. The New Dealmade Americans optimistic about progress towards the end
of the Depression. Roosevelt knew that in order for other acts to pass the banks can not be

licenses for banks that were financially sound. Advisers of Roosevelt told him that there was not
enough regulations for banks and the stock market. Roosevelt agreed and backed the Securities Act

regulates stock trading and stops fraud and the Glass Steagall Act created the Federal Deposit

Political Theories And Ideology Of Liberal Democracy Essay
Many challenges put a stress on Modern Democracy because of the political theories and
ideology our government holds, the current politicians taking office, inequalities throughout
social classes and economies, and the opinions of We the People . Nearly every country claims to
be some form of a democracy, but not all these self proclaimed democracies allow for free politics,
good government, and rule of law (Crick, 2002). Liberal democracyhas begun to win over its
royalist, fascist, and collectivist rivals over the course of the last few centuries, and the freedom
to vote has been steadily expanded to those who were without it. But the liberal democracies of the
world do have problems. Democracy is only as good as its citizens, and the quality of those citizens
demands certain constant factors (7 Concerns, 2012).
Gerrymandering is the process in which political boundaries are redraw or changed in order to
benefit one political party over another one; if one party has power of the state legislature, then they
can change political boundaries to maximize their chances of winning congressional districts to win
an election. By doing this, unfair and skewed results are produced because redrawn lines can be
made to help one party win over the other, since constituents for the losing party will be divided
between districts (Tormsen, 2015). This will also allow the winning party to win more electoral
votes and seats (Tormsen, 2015). This practice is uniquely American and can be

company called Hampton Roads Sanitation District also known as HRSD. In recent years a flesh
eating bacteria called Vibrio Vulnificus has been found in Hampton Roads area, specifically at the
Virginia Beach Oceanfront. It is very concerning because a lot of people that live in the Hampton
Roads area enjoy swimming or surfing in the ocean, as well as tourists who come. If the Vibrio
Vulnificus spreads no one will want to visit to the oceanfront.
During the summer of 2012 the HRSD tested the waters of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. When

A Comparison of Dulce Et Decorum Est and Exposure Essay
A Comparison of Dulce Et Decorum Est and Exposure
Traditional war poetry gives the idea of patriotic idealism of war. This style of poetry implies that
war is patriotic and that people who fight for their country are honorable.
But many of the poets do not portray war as it really is, by glossing over the gory details with
attractive images. Many traditional war poems were written before the war to persuade and
encourage young boys to become loyal soldiers. Many of the soldiers were taught to believe that
they were the chosen few and they were delighted to take part. They even thanked God, Now, God
be thanked, Who had matched us with

As the war was developing the pressure to take part in conflict grew increasingly. After training ,
Owen was labeled a second lieutenant. All his romantic notions was destroyed by the reality of
war, water logged trenches, barbed wire, bombardments and machine guns. After a near death
experience
Owen was transported to a hospital with concussion. But he still had the images of his many
brothers and conrades laying motionless around him. Owen didn t escape unharmed he was
diagnosed with shell shock. He was then posted to
Craiglockhart War Hospital for observation where he quickly came the editor of The Hydra , the
hospital magazine.
Whilst Owen was in the hospital, Siegfried Sassoon arrived.
Owen made a good impression on Sassoon and he recognized the potential in his poetry.
Encouraged by Sassoon, Owen wrote some of his finest, most angry and compassionate poems at
that time. When he left Craiglockhart he furthered his poetry career when he was introduced to the
London literary society. Although Owens future seemed promising Owen decided to leave this safe
predictable home and return to France to fight. He fought on the Beaurevoir fousomme line and
was awarded the military cross. But during his time in France he fell under machine fire.

Shays Rebellion and Young American Democracy
After the Revolutionary War, the newly formed United States were finding their governmental
system, the Articles of Confederation, facing its first years of trials. One of these trials, which was
a culmination of many political and economic conflicts of the times, was Shays Rebellion. Shays
Rebellion was an armed rebel uprising that took place in Massachusetts during 1786 and 1787. The
Rebellion was a result of long standing and increasing disaffection with State and Federal
governments by farmers and others affected by tax and debt imbalances resulting from the falling
out with Britain after the Revolutionary War. Revolutionary War veteran Daniel Shays led a group
of rebels in rising up first against Massachusetts courts, and later in marching on the United States

Frank Wedekind s Spring Awakening And Atonement
Frank Wedekind s Spring Awakening and Ian McEwan s Atonement examine the notion that those
who abuse power do so for personal gain. Through the use of themes such as: Power in sexuality,
including notions of submission and dominance. Coming of age, regarding how children either
don t want to grow up, or contrastingly grow up too quickly. The power dichotomy between
parents and children, contrasting children oppressed by their parents to those who act as a parental
figure, and the use of guilt to disempower or empower. While examining these themes both authors
use a plethora of literary techniques, in order to emphases their own views on the topic of distorted
power. Power in sexuality is a concurrent theme in Wedekind s Spring Awakening

Additionally, when Melchior yells, There s no such thing as love! It s all self, all ego , he is
using his knowledge of Freud and his Nihilist view on society to disempower Wendla, causing her
to question her innocent views of love. McEwan utilises intertextuality to Nabokov s Lolita, to
support the power imbalance in the relationship between Paul Marshall and Lola Quincy. Lola s
name is a direct reference to Lolita which subsequently foreshadows her eventual rape, and the
virulent relationship created between the two dichotomous characters. Both Paul and Melchior use
their superior knowledge or age to disempower more innocent characters in their respective texts.
Whereas, Robbie contrastingly, empowers Cecilia with his words. Both texts are a bildungsroman,
dealing with the power acquisition often attributed to coming of age in an oppressive and
infantilising society. In Spring Awakening, Wendla s body has outgrown her mind, mentioning that
underneath her sackcloth... [she ll] be dressed like a fairy queen a symbolic act that highlights
Wendla s innocence, juxtaposed against the harsh, scratchy imagery associated with a sackcloth,
that represents her mature physical self. However, due to the rigid structure of her family, Wendla
was bereaved from the power often paired with this process of maturing. In Atonement, the most
blatant example of Briony s coming of age is her lack of development between Part One and Part
Four. Briony obsessing over fairy tales,

Macroscopic Color Lab
Abstract The purpose of these experiments is to find how the molecular components are affecting
the macroscopic color of the solutions by recording the emission and absorbance spectrums for each
solution. These experiments will help specify characteristics of the solution: its molecular and/or
compounded configuration. Knowledge about the emission and absorbance information for the
molecular composition allows for an identification to be made about the molecules or compounds
within the solution, which then can be used to narrow down the possibilities for the solutions. The
experiments will be conducted by observing the burning of the solutions to create emission
spectrums and analyzing the solutions with a spectrophotometer to create the absorbance
spectrums. Experimental Methods: Experiment 1 Absorbance Analysis Collect four cuvettes and
add approximately 2/3 of the allowed volume to one of the cuvettes with distilled water. Find the

When the residue is given energy (heat), it will release light. Seeing the light through the
spectroscope allows for the specific wavelengths that are emitted to be perceived. Specific
molecular components release certain wavelengths of light because the distance between energy
levels, that the electrons must travel, are specific to each element. Because of this, the information
gathered in the spectroscope and the emission spectrum can give insight as to what components are
in the solution. If very specific ranges of wavelengths are emitted, then it should be clear as to what
possibilities the solutions could be. Again, narrowing down the molecular components can explain

Gender Stereotypes In The Gutting Of Couffignal

detective fiction short story written by Dashiell Hammett that focuses on the mystery surrounding
the attack on the town of Couffignal by an unknown gang, and more specifically, the robberies and
murders that ensue. Hammett s story is classified as hard boiled fiction, which Encyclopaedia
Britannica defines as a tough, unsentimental style of American crime writing (The Editors of

on the issue of large scale crime in the city. However, throughout the story, Hammett uses gender

Unlike the Continental Op, Princess Zhukovski allows some of her most significant actions to
be ruled by her own gender stereotyping. To begin with, the princess is taken by surprise when
the Op announces his suspicions of her. Her reaction proves that she does not believe he would
come to those conclusions, not only because she is of royal birth but also because she is a
woman. Once the princess realizes she is found out, Zhukovski attempts to gain sympathy from
the Continental Op by expressing the woes of her troublesome past life. She laments, There was
no place for us in world. Outcasts easily become outlaws (Hammett 250). Zhukovski hopes that
her sob story will touch the heart of the Continental Op and that her portrayal of the damsel in
distress will drive the point home, but the Continental Op is having none of it. Growing in
desperation, the princess plays her last card by seductively offering herself to him, and it appears
it is a hand she has played before. Zhukovski expects even the strongest willed men to bend before
her at the promise of a sexual favor. At the conclusion of the story, the princess employs both her
wealth and feminine wiles to save her own skin, bribing Flippo to kill the Continental Op for her.
Hammett illustrates her tactics when he writes She was singing, chanting, crooning Italian syllables
into his round face (252). Although Zhukovski successfully manipulates Flippo, it ultimately does
her no good; once the

Spotify vs. Pandora
In the 21st century a battle over how music is delivered has begun. No longer is terrestrial radio
the only way in which listeners can discover new music, revisit nostalgic favorites and connect
with their respective age groups. Online digital radio outlets have become obvious replacements
for men and women between the ages of 18 34. In this day and age individuals have a surplus of
options when it comes to accessing music. However, many have moved away from physical
products and the technologies/outlets of times past. There are two prominent companies waging
this war: Spotify and Pandora. Competition between the two programs seemed inevitable. And now,

With Spotify penning licensing deals with these three majors, Spotify has an upper hand on
Pandora. Spotify recently launched twelve new apps backed by the major labels. Pandora lacks
such deals, as do many other services. Because of this, Pandora pays a hefty sum in royalties a
significant strike against its business model пїЅ. Due to the absence of deals with the major record
labels that Spotify has, Pandora not only struggles with expanding its music library but also with
maintaining a feasible monetary system. Pandora operates annually at a loss of millions due to
complicated digital streaming rights and bandwidth costs. If the service cannot combat the Spotify
horde swatting at its crown, Pandora will find itself permanently dethroned пїЅ. The next question
is obvious: what will Pandora do to combat the increasing strength of Spotify and their listener
base? According to Forbes, Pandora has started to venture into automotive territory. Starting early
last year, Pandora has been making deals with manufacturers Ford and BMW, and partnered with
Pioneer for access to Toyota, Hyundai and GM. According to the Trefis team writing for the Street,
This is going to be a major avenue of growth given that almost half of the radio listening happens in

Wasp Nest Analysis
Wasp Nest Takes over Guest Bed in Woman s Home
Talk about unwanted guests taking over your home, a woman in Winchester, England found that
she had thousands of unwanted guests residing in her spare bedroom. It appears that the nest took
three months to build, but only a short time to remove.
The wasps had managed to take up space in the woman s spare bedroom for at least three months.
The woman s son had discovered the nest when he went to search the room for an item he needed.
The room had been closed off, except for an open window.
The wasps had managed to chew through all the bedding and the mattress on the bed, in order to
construct the massive nest that was found. We may wonder how a room could be left unattended
for so long, that is easy. The woman lives alone in her five bedroom home, and has closed off
rooms that are not in use.
An exterminator that was called in to eradicate the problem stated that he had to first eliminate the
wasps flying around him. He then used a powder to inject into the wasp nest and waited ten minutes
for the powder to take effect. In ten minutes, the exterminator was able to return to the room and
break apart the nest. He removed the nest to the outdoors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

without the full protective suit on could have been disastrous. That many wasps in one small area

were built to protect those who lived in or near them, from attackers and invaders. These castles
lasted up until about the 1560 s. Medieval castles originated from about the 1100 s and began
being built rapidly across Europe. The idea of castles came when after the Norman conquest or

An Understanding Of The Notion Of Water Rights
An understanding of the notion of water rights in the eastern part of the United States is supported
by two key questions (a) What can I do? (b) What can someone else do?
Riparian s have certain rights (1) right to continued natural flow of water in largely same quality
and quantity; (2) right to make reasonable use of water, subject to the equal rights of other riparian
s on the same water body. Thus, a possessory right subject to the usafructory rights of other riparian
s. This paper argues that while it might have been okay to have a general doctrine of reasonableness
, that this might be too broad given greater demands/uses in riparian states, plus changing climatic
conditions.

Beyond this, the owner may use the water for reasonable artificial or commercial purposes, subject
to the very large proviso that he may not substantially or materially diminish the quantity or quality
of water. Certainly no water may be transported to land beyond the riparian land.
With the advancement of commercial development, many states moved away from the doctrine to
the American rule or reasonable use doctrine. A Pennsylvania court ruled that a mine operator
could dewater and lower water tables throughout an entire valley, with no responsibility for injuries
to owners of domestic wells whose supply was thereby cut off
Classification of water:

Man has coped with the complexity of water by trying to compartmentalize it, ...the legal profession

The Failure Of A Psychodynamic Relationship
The problem with cross sex friendships is the failure to meet and keep up a platonic relationship.
These relationships start out in the levels of friendships from acquaintances to personal or
intellectual, ultimately evolving into intimate and, or emotional. The triangular theory of love is
then tested by a matter of combinations of the three following components intimacy, passion and
commitment. After there is a set combination, evolved feelings show through attraction, one sided
feelings, personality similarities, attachments and the risks. Cross sex friendships can not have a

and in his essay, CГ©zanne and the Unity of Modern Art Clement Greenberg, identifies CГ©zanne
as the most abundant generator of ideas and the most enduring in newness (Greenberg,83). This,
coming from one of the most influential art critics of the twentieth century, is not to be taken
lightly. CГ©zanne was extremely influential to the modernist painters of the early twentieth,

a.Felipe was concerned about many issues when he visited the Chinese factories. The ethical

long working hours, lack of appropriate gears for employees to perform their work safely, high

New Crossover Operator Based On The Machine And Mutation...
Abstract To solve the job shop scheduling problem more effectively, some genetic operators were
designed. In order to increase the diversity of the population, a mixed selection operator based on
the fitness value and the concentration value was given. To make full use of the characteristics of
the problem itself, new crossoveroperator based on the machine and mutation operator based on
the critical path were specifically designed. To find the critical path, a new algorithm to find the
critical path from schedule was presented. Furthermore, a local search operator was designed,
which can improve the local search ability of GA greatly. Based on all these, a hybrid genetic
algorithmwas proposed and its convergence was proved. The computer simulations were made on a
set of benchmark problems and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed
algorithm. Keywords Hybrid genetic algorithm, Job shop scheduling, hybrid scheduler.
1. INTRODUCTION
Job shop is a system that process n number of tasks on m number of machines. In this type of

Wages For The American Worker Essay
Honest Wages for The American Worker Congratulations, you are hired! The four words that
people long to hear. However, for many newly employed workers, their new job will not pay an
income that will enable them to live comfortably. In 2015, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported
that 2.6 million Americans, or approximately 3.3 percent of all hourly paid workers earned wages
at, or below the federal minimum wage. Since 2009, the federal minimum wageamount has
remained stagnant. Bringing this number to a level that is consistent with the cost of living is a
basic right for every wage earning American. Raising the minimum wage enables working people to

According to a Washington Post ABC news poll, two thirds of Americans say the minimum wage

Causes, Teatments and Risks of Sleep Apnea
Obstructive Sleep Apnea Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common form between both sleep
apneas. OSA occurs when the upper airway collapse during sleep. Collapse of the upper airway
may cause decreases in ventilation, but not complete cessation of it, with desaturation and
arousal (hypopnea) and/or complete cessation of airflow for more than 10 seconds entitled
apnea (Figure 1) 1. Common symptoms of OSA are frequent arousal, snoring, choking/gasping,
daytime sleepiness, increased carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood (hypercapnea), and a decrease
of oxygen level in the body (hypoxia). As stated before, OSA is more common in men than in
women. Other factors that influence OSA are those with an increased body mass index, thick neck
/circumference, small erythematous oropharynx, position of body during sleep (most commonly
the supine position), medication, alcohol, or pre existing cardiac complications2. Usually, OSA is
diagnosed by a sleep doctor monitoring the patient during a polysomnography (sleep study).
Having a sleep study done is the gold standard diagnostic for assessing sleep disordered breathing.
There is monitoring of the airflow of the nose and mouth, end tidal CO2, the patient s sleep state by
electroencephalography, movement of the chest and abdomen, pulse oximetry, and blood pressure.
The apnea hypopnea index (AHI) the number of obstructive events per hour is the most commonly
used measurement to quantify OSA: mild OSA = 5 to 15 events/hour; moderate = 15 to 30

Relationship Between Community And Community Development
The world is built by tens of thousands of communities and its participation is indispensable to the
world development. Community s development depends on the economic and progress of the
world. The subject of community is people. Therefore, the communities even the world cannot
prosper without the sustainable people. This article focuses on sustainable people, economy,
education and China s experience in community developmentand meanwhile explains the
relationship between community, community developmentпј€
CDпј‰ and community economic
developmentпј€
CEDпј‰.
Everyone in the world belongs to a group or an organization. People stay together to share time and
all other benefits, keep same thinking and values and live in their own place, that is how
community naturally created. Different individual ability, local culture and environment can lead to
different communities. For instance, community economy in east, middle, or west region of
Canada has big differences because they develop in different level. Some of the people in the
community may be wealthy and highly educated, while the others are living in high poverty and
lower educated communities.
According to Lotz and MacIntyre (2003), Common to all humans these days is a desire to
exercise some control over their own lives and those of their communities. Community
development is about showing how this can be done, and how personal and local development can
be linked in mutually beneficial ways. (p. 9) People always protect and

When someone is seriously harmed by a medical professional to the point where they will be
damaged for the rest of their life, they deserve to be compensated, especially if the person is a
dependent and will need lifelong care. A serious example of this problem is the case of a couple
in Nebraska whose son was born with cerebral palsy due to negligence by their obstetrician.
When the case went to trial, the monetary value assessed for taking care of their son for the rest of
his life was six million dollars, and the jury awarded them 5.6 million. However, the cap on all
damages, both economic and noneconomic, is 1.25 million, so that was the amount of money
the couple received (Hot Coffee). This is a problem for two reasons: caps limit the jury s ability
to make a fair decision based on the trial, and the lack of money paid out by the doctor s
insurance will have to be covered by taxpayers later. The point of a jury is to allow a panel of
peers to judge a person s case and give a worthy compensation in the civil justice system, and caps
take this away from the jury. The son will now be taken care of by Medicaid and Social Security
money, which ultimately comes out of tax payer s pockets, leaving citizens responsible for
something the insurance companies should have covered. This is exactly what insurance
companies want, and they will continue to ensure they pay out as little money as

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein Essay
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein The Giving Tree is a modern children literature written by
Shel Silverstein, which is also one of his first successful piece of work. It is about an apple tree
who always gives and gives and a boy who always takes and takes. This might be another story to
read before bed times for the kids but however, it portrays so many things, from deforestation to
modern society. Personally, I believe that The Giving Tree portrays the theme of selflessness
versus selfishness, like the unconditional love a parent has for his or her child. I have only leaves
and apples. Take my apples, Boy, and sell them in the city. Then you will be happy. And so the
boy climbed up the tree and gathered her apples and carried... Show more content on

The boy on the other hand is like us, the children who are used to receiving and receiving, so
much that we take it for granted, so sometimes, we tend to forget to think about the tree or our
parents. Blessed is the mother who is able to help her child, at whatever age. This truth about
parental happiness is surly known by any loving parents who has been compelled to watch
impotently while his child is suffering. The example to prove this statement can be seen all
through the story. The forest is my house, but you may cut of my branches and build a house.
Then you will be happy. And so the boy cut of her branches and carried them away to build his
house. And the tree was happy. On the other hand, the boy still stays inconsiderate and selfish.
He never even once mention to the tree how thankful he is or even a simply thank you . The
love of the tree for the boy or the man is a selfless love, while the love of the boy for the tree is a
selfish love. The boy never tries to help the tree (by pruning, feeding it, et cetera), while the
entire being of the tree is devoted to helping the boy meet his most recent need, whether trivial or
essential. Due to the popularity of the book, many people commented on it and so there are many
different ideas, which can be view differently according to the readers own judgement. The boy is
after all doing what is required of human being to do: he is growing up, going away, making

The Civil Rights Movement And Our Nation s Continued...
In March the United States celebrates the Selma to Montgomery march of 1965 to honor the civil
rights movement and our nation s continued progress towards racial equality. Yet almost five
decades later a broken criminal justice system has proven that we still have a long way to go in
achieving racial equality. Today people of color continue to be excessively incarcerated, policed,
and sentenced to death at significantly higher rates than whites. Further, racial differences in the
criminal justice system hurt communities of color by excluding thousands by limiting blacks the
right to vote, limiting employment opportunities ,housing, public benefits, and education to
millions more . While these disparities still exist it is crucial that a... Show more content on

Literacy Pedagogy Essay
Effective teaching of literacy is developed through a deep understanding of the ways in which
children learn, informing educators on the most beneficial pedagogical methods to utilise
(Tompkins et al, 2012). Literacy pedagogy within the Australian context has changed drastically
over time and has resulted in a myriad of pedagogical choices that influence contemporary literacy
education(Kalantzis Cope, 2012). By critically analysing the changing approaches to literacy
teaching within the Australian educational context, the four major literacy pedagogies: didactic,
authentic, functional and critical can be explored linearly to highlight the theories behind each
approach, their positive and negative attributes and how subsequent approaches have been
integrated to result in a balanced approach to literacy education.
Didactic pedagogy dates to the 1500 s and was the founding approach to literacy pedagogy when
mass, compulsory, institutionalised education was first introduced in the 19th century (Kalantzis
Cope, 2012). Didactic literacy education primarily involves lecturing and is essentially teacher
centered (Banning, 2005). Didactic pedagogy is defined by the teacher controlling what is to be
taught and how this information is to be delivered (Banning, 2005). The students role is to
memorise and reproduce this content (Kalantzis Cope, 2012a). The approach also concerns
comprehension of the meaning of written texts to be interpreted as intended by the author (Kalantzis

Solid waste like bags, foam, and other items dumped into the oceans from land or by ships at sea
are frequently consumed, with often fatal effects, by marine mammals, fish, and birds that mistake
it for food.
Ocean currents corral trillions of decomposing plastic items and other trash into gigantic, swirling
garbage patches (Pacific Trash Vortex)
Fish and birds could be harmed from accidentally eating the plastic particles, or absorbing
substances that leach out into the water. The main problem is the accessibility to freshwater
organisms that can be easily confused as natural food.
IV Pollution Facts:
The average American will throw away approximately 185 pounds of plastic per year.
8% of the world s oil is used for plastic production.
Plastic in the ocean breaks down into such small segments that pieces of plastic from a one liter
bottle could end up on every mile of beach throughout the world.
Approximately 380 billion plastic bags are used in the United States every year. That s more than
1,200 bags per US resident, per year.
80% of pollution to the marine environment comes from the land.
Estimated in 2006 that every square mile of ocean contains 46,000 pieces of floating plastic.
Estimated that over 70,000 chemicals are used in industrial compounds, pesticides, pharmaceuticals,
food additives, and other purposes. That total

Luke Way Of Looking Analysis
One of the many concepts of belonging and identity that this film explores is the concept that
you need to follow your dreams in order to achieve your full potential and express your true
identity but often there is a struggle for a place to belong. Belonging to a community that has
expectations for ones gender can help with the struggle since what their expectations are for you
may not be you. Evidence of this in the film is when Billy was dancing, instead of boxing and
Mr. Braithwaite said to him You look like a right wanker to me, son . This proves that people in
that community think that males can t dance, only box and if they rebelled against the
expectations they would be the outcast of the community. One of the most powerful examples of
this in the film was when his family didn t accept him as a ballet dancer until Billy expressed his
dancing to his father. After he expressed himself to his father, his father allowed him to follow his
dreams and audition for the Royal Ballet School. This was a powerful example of belonging and
identity because sometimes it can be your family that is limiting your options and Billy s family...

ABSTRACT
Ten shales samples obtained in X Formation, Afikpo Basin and were subjected to geochemical
analysis to determine the TOC , SOM and Rock eval pyrolysis. The TOC values varied from 0.6
7.36 % 1.60w% 1.80w% with an average of 1.66w%, while the SOM values ranged from 100 380
% . Tmax range from 442 462 . The above results show that the TOC values fall above the
minimum threshold for hydrocarbon generation potential. The minimum threshold value for TOC
is 0.5%. The average SOM value is also indicative of good source rock potential for the studied
samples. The Tmax values in the study area shows that the sediments are immature and have not
reached the oil generation phase, but are within the gas phase. The organic matter quantity is
adequate for sediments to yield hydrocarbon whereas the organic matter quality is inadequate to
expel hydrocarbon.
(I)INTRODUCTION
Most people now believe that oil and gas are formed when the remains of dead animals and plants
are mixed with sediments, buried and formed into rocks and then heated deep underground. The
oil and gas then seep out through porous rocks where they may or may not collect in an oil or gas
field.

Comparing Themes Used by Rudyard Kipling Essay
The White Seal , by Rudyard Kipling, explores the life of a young seal, Kotick, and the hardships
he faces in the vast ocean. Also examined are the individual experiences that Kotick must endure
as he becomes a leader and an adult. Though others do not agree with his actions, and it takes him
many years to reach his goal, he perseveres and succeeds in his dream, and becomes a model
leader in the process. The themes of bravery, leadership, individualism, and growth are used to
depict the many ways that Kotick evolves in the story.
From the day of his birth, Kotick was different than others not only because of the color of his fur,
but in his actions as well. Born to a brave father who fought for his family s place in the breeding ...

When he could have been out playing with other seals his age, Kotick was avoiding shark
attacks in parts of the world that he had never been to before. Each of his experiences acted as a
catalyst to his growth process, making him stronger, and wiser than he possibly would have
been otherwise. He went to many different areas of the world to discover whether the island he
imagined existed, and did not give up, because an effective leader would not do that. Along the
way, an old seal told Kotick of a legend which said that one day a white seal would take all the
others to a quiet place. To this Kotick responded, I am the only white seal that has ever been
born on the beaches (110). This knowledge revitalized his courage, and made him even more
determined in his efforts. The next year, Kotick, who was finally an adult, decided to search one
final time. Very close to giving up, he finally found what he was looking for. His hard work and
determination paid off with a great reward. Exactly as he hoped it would be, the island was the
perfect place for seals. He returned to the other seals with his great vigor, but to his dismay not one
of them believed him. This did not sadden, but instead angered the now grown seal.
Kotick developed many leadership skills throughout the course of his life, and had to use the most
brutal that he knew to handle the insubordination that he encountered. In a fit of rage, he began
attacking all who doubted

Marketing Analysis Of Sony Playstation 3
Introduction
I chose to conduct a marketing analysis on the Sony PlayStation 3 because it is a product that I
am very familiar with. I have been a PlayStation consumer since 1994 when the first PlayStation
was established. Therefore, since I am a frequent consumer of this product, I have gained some
knowledge of this product over time. When an individual is a frequent consumer of a certain
product, the consumer will eventually become aware or at least have some knowledge of the
marketing mix of that product. However, besides from being a dedicated consumer, I was also
involved in selling this product as a sales associate and this gave me some insight on the marketing
mix of this product. As a sales associate, I also received some training from marketers from the
Sony Corporation on how to position the PlayStation 3 in an electronics store. Furthermore, I feel
knowledgeable about this product due to the exposure that I have had with it.
Product and Positioning
The PlayStation 3 is a high definition gaming console equipped with a Blu ray player which is
manufactured by Sony computer Entertainment. Sony PlayStation3 uses the newest and greatest
technology to appeal to their customers. The PS3 offers the most advanced visuals and audio
compared to any other gaming console. According to Brian Moats (2008), the people who are most
interested in staying up to date with the newest technology are usually men of the ages 15 30. To
reach that market, PlayStation 3 makes

Theme Of Symbolism In Heart Of Darkness
What are the symbols used in the novel The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad?
In 1885 to 1960 Belgian colonized the Congo and people and the resources are being exploited
by the colonizer. In the novel Heart of Darkness Conrad use various symbols to explore the theme
or to show the concept of the novel. The author use various symbols in the novel from which there
are several symbols which represent the theme and the concept of the novel. The symbols which
helped to explore the theme of the novel are colonization by the European country to African
people, ivory which made the Native people slave and the moral degradation of the women in the
country.
The theme colonization was portrayed by the symbol Darkness where the title of the novel itself
tells the Heart of Darkness , according to Odak darkness places for the thoughts those are evil,
insanity and corruption. Marlow travels to the Congo as a captain of the boat without knowing
anything about the company where he is working and he travels in darkness, unfamiliar parts of the
world and finds out that the evil lives in the shape of Europeans who should bring enlightenment.

Columbine High School Essay
COlumbine High School
On the morning of April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold approach Columbine High
School, in Jefferson County, Colorado. Armed with one 10 shot Hi Point model 995 carbine rifle,
one Intratec AB 10 (TEC 9) pistol, two Savage 12 gauge shotguns, and as many as ninety five
explosive devices, Harris and Klebold enter the school near the cafeteria. Upon doing so, they are
met with the words that God commanded unto Moses on Mount Sinai: Thou Shall Not Kill. Harris
and Klebold tremble in fear and shame for what they have come to accomplish. Dropping their
weapons, the boys fall to their knees, bow their heads in penance, and pray to God for forgiveness.

The logical assumption to make is that having God in school (in the form of the Ten
Commandments) would have prevented Columbine. That is quite a substantial claim, but it only
shows the magnitude of faith that some Christians place in the Word.
In 1999, an attempt to pass a law mandating the display of the Ten Commandments in public
schools (not coincidentally attached to a gun control bill) failed for reasons stated by People for
the American Way on their website:
First, posting the Ten Commandments is a solution in search of a non existent problem. Religious
Right rhetoric notwithstanding, religion and prayer have not been banned from public schools; in
fact the First Amendment protects students rights to pray, discuss religious views and read
religious texts in school. Second, posting the Ten Commandments would violate the First
Amendment by requiring schools to favor one religion over another; the Supreme Court ruled so in
1980.
What is at stake here is not a student s right to practice religion in school that right is already
guaranteed; rather, the Christian Right wants to be seen as doing something about school violence.
The Ten Commandments as touted by Tom DeLay become a symbol of spirituality, a means to
gauge both the morality of a school population and the pro activeness of the Christian Right in
combating school violence.
Not all in the Christian Right are so naГѓВЇve as to think that the displaying of the Ten
Commandments is a panacea for

President Roosevelt s Response To The Great Depression
Imagine all of a sudden being out of a job and becoming bankrupt, and your country going into a
depression. In 1929 until the late 1930 s the Great Depression took place and many countries
were affected by it, the Great Depression was an economic depression. The cause of the Great
depression was the crash of the Stock Market in 1929. The Great Depressionaffected the US in a
way that increased unemployment by 25% and increased the amount of homeless people. In this
essay I will be analyzing the responses of President Franklin Roosevelt s administration to the
problems of the Great Depression. I will also be talking about how effective these responses
were, and how they changed the role of the federal government. I believe that the responses to the
Great Depression were very effective in bringing the country out of the Great Depression. The
reason I believe that President Roosevelt s response to the Great Depression was very effective
was because of economic measures that he took. These measures were known as The New Deal,
which were designed to help bring our country out of the depression we were facing. Some of the
things that were enacted in the New Deal, were the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Social
Security Act, the Civil Works Administration, the enacting of the Emergency Banking Act and the
rejuvenation of the Farm Credit Act. All of these corporations and acts were made to help create
jobs and rebuild the Stock Market. Some of the greatest acts were the enacting of the... Show more

  • 2. The Decade Of The 1970 s Never has a decade been as influential to humanity s progression as the 70s. The 1970s was a strong and powerful decade. It is the decade that brought glam rock and witnessed the rise and fall of disco. Much more than a decade of hippies and pop culture. They were a time of great political movement and scandal. It was the decade that ended the VietnamWar and legalized abortion. The decade that brought Jane Fonda, Robert Redford, and John Travolta to fame. Movies that had never been socially acceptable seen time on the big screen, movies like Jaws, Saturday Night Fever, Rocky and Star Wars. The 1970 s would be home to many events and technological advances that would come to shape our society today. The year is 1970. U.S. President Richard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1971 after a brief 17 months of designing and testing, Apollo 15 lands on the moon and uses the Lunar Rover vehicle for the first time. The Lunar Rover is an electric vehicle designed to operate in the low gravity vacuum of the Moon, thus allowing the Apollo astronauts to extend the range of terrain that could be covered. Harrison Schmitt attributed mission success to the LVR: The Lunar Rover proved to be the reliable, safe and flexible lunar exploration vehicle we expected it to be. Without it, the major scientific discoveries of Apollo 15, 16, and 17 would not have been possible; and our current understanding of lunar evolution would not have been possible. Apollo 15 was the first of the Apollo J missions capable of a longer stay time on the moon and greater surface mobility. • 3. Different Types of Sensors and Their Applications Capacitive Sensors Capacitive sensors use an array capacitor plates to image the fingerprint. Skin is conductive enough to provide a capacitive coupling with an individual capacitive element on the array. Ridges, being closer to the detector, have a higher capacitance and valleys have a lower capacitance. Some capacitive sensors apply a small voltage to the finger to enhance the signal and create better image contrast. Capacitive sensors can be sensitive to electrostatic discharge (shock) but they are insensitive to ambient lighting and are more resist contamination issues than some optical designs. Optical Sensors Optical sensors use arrays of photodiode or phototransistor detectors to convert the energy in light incident on the detector into electrical charge. The sensor package usually includes a light emitting diode (LED) to illuminate the finger. There are two detector types used by optical sensors, charge coupled devices (CCD) and CMOS based optical imagers. CCD detectors are sensitive to low light levels and are capable of making excellent grayscale pictures. However, CCD fabrication is relatively expensive and neither low light sensitivity or grayscale imaging are required for fingerprint recognition. CMOS optical imagers are manufactured in quantity and can be made with some of the image processing steps built into the chip resulting in a lower cost. Optical sensors for fingerprints may be affected by a number of real world factors such as stray light and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I m going to look at Band 2 within the professional area of Learning and Development. I think the following 4 areas are most relevant, and in order, to my current role of Trainer at the British Council: 6.4.2. Facilitate internal leaning events and workshops, delivering content as appropriate. A major part of my role is the development and delivery of training materials. This involves a degree of event and people management, but essentially I must be able to provide the knowledge that the organisation needs in a digestible format. 6.11.2. Continually seek ways to improve learning and talent development activity to best meet individual or managers requirements. In a global organisation with a range of different needs and cultural approaches, flexibility from the trainer is imperative, as is the need to change and adapt where required. It s important to address the immediate but also longer term needs of learning and development across my organisation and analyse these in tandem with HR and the teams themselves to develop a strategy for improvement that fits in with the organisational, as well as team objectives. 6.9.1. • 5. Lord Of The Flies Ego Superego Analysis In every human being, a constant battle is occurring between two very diverse consciences. William Golding portrayed this battle through his novel, Lord of the Flies, and with Sigmund Freud s psychoanalysis theories of ID, Ego, and Superego. ID usually delineates the avarice and guile side of the soul. Superego, however, represents the euphonious and benign voice of the soul. The Ego is a balance of the two and is gullible to the forces of both voices. Golding uses these three forces to show that without the pureness of the conscience, human spiritis innately evil and corruptible. Thus, Golding uses Freud s ID, Ego, and Superego to demonstrate the overall theme of the flexibility of the human spirit towards evil through Jack s recklessness, Ralph s senseof balance, and Simon s cherubic attitude. The character of Jack symbolizes the ID side of the soul because of his recklessness through his obsession with hunting and fun on the island. His obsession started when he felt the power from killing his first pig, He noticed blood on his hands and grimaced distastefully, looked for something on which to clean them, then wiped them on his shorts and laughed ... We ll go hunting every day (Golding 69/70). This quote shows that when the ID receives power, it will take full advantage of it and will enjoy it, just like Jack did when he saw the blood from the pig. This quote also shows that how the ID treats everything as a game and something to laugh at, which is exactly what Jack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Evolution Of The Suburbs For many decades, living out the American dream has meant living in the suburbs, surrounded by a white picket fence, with two and a half children, far from the noisy city. However, many people claim that in a couple years, the suburbs will be no more, and everyone will commence the migration back to the city. In order to understand this debatable topic, it is important to explore the rise of suburbs and what caused people to move out miles away from their place of work and center city in the first place. To be able to explore what caused the creation of suburbs, it is also important to understand what a walking city is. According to Jackson, a walking city must have five main characteristics. First off, a walking city must have congestion,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people believe that suburbs are just a rebellion, of sorts, against cities. It became known as the, white flight from central city. The government was blamed due to lack of care for cities and increased support of the suburbs. There were federal policies that were interpreted to protect suburbs and seen as a way to continue racial segregation. It was many times advertised that suburbs were a way to continue living with, people like us. Cost played a key part in this move as well. It was inexpensive because there was an abundancy. Highways and utilities were often subsidized whenever they were in rural areas because of national policy. However, policy did not require the government to repair streets, bridges, or sewer lines in cities. Daniel Boone, a well known settler, left the city and moved west because the high population of cities made him feel confined and with too many restraints. Inhabitants of cities did not need much more of a push to take advantage and move out to rural spaces where their lifestyle became much cheaper and happier. As Jackson states, suburbanization was not a historical inevitability created by geography, technology, and culture, but rather the product of government policies. In effect, the social costs of low density living have been paid by the general taxpayer rather than only by suburban residents, (Jackson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Rational Choice Theory And Delinquency The Rational choice theory is a belief that children choose to commit criminal acts once they have carefully considered the pros and cons of their actions, and that delinquency is a matter of choice that is made by an offender; who believes that what they can gain from committing a crime outweighs the punishment that may follow. Rational Choice theoryis probably the oldest known theory which attempts to explain the link between juveniles and delinquency. The argument was first raised by classical criminologist, Cesare Beccaria. Beccaria, along with other classical criminologists, believed that because people have free will. It was most commonly found in my research, there were more ineffective methods than effective ones. It was stated by homeland security that besides the pilots, the passengers on each plane is told to stay vigilant and informed of the basic indicators of human trafficking. (U.S. customs/ border protection 2014) Before this was put into effect human traffickers were able to hide from ground patrol and are still able to today, but with the use of passenger planes being able to detect movement of traffickers and report it making it easier to catch and apprehend traffickers. • 9. The Relationship Between Meditation and Mental and... Rooting back to its ancient times, meditation has been around for thousands of years, especially in the Eastern part of the world and has spread to the Western countries in early 1970s. Contrary to what I initially believe meditation is, prior to taking this course, which is the mental concentration on something, meditation is actually a thoughtless awareness of an individual s surroundings. Dhyana, the generic Sanskrit term for meditation is so much more than being alone with one s thoughts, it is about the state of mind being calm but alert. Sogyal Rinpoche in The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying said that it is through meditation that you are able to go on a journey to discover yourself, paving the way to enlightenment.1 ... According to studies by Chiesa and Seretti, 2009 and Hassed, 1996, meditation also relieves stress and seems to be an effective way to increase overall general well being as it reduces the production of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline.5,6 Bloomberg also reported a study by John Denninger, a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School showing that meditation also wards of diseases.7 Meditation boosts the immune system, making people who practice it less susceptible to falling sick. Where when will I meditate? Ideally, the rooftop, by the private pool or the balcony would also be good locations to carry out the meditation, as it is secluded, quiet and tranquil so that I can truly be with myself. I should also draw up a schedule to allocate time to meditate in a comfortable, quiet and safe environment such as my apartment to truly enjoy the meditation. I should also always make it a point to not rush through my meditation as it lowers the effectiveness of it. If I were to be busy, I would not force myself to meditate because it would not be sincere. I will meditate early in the morning, as it is the quietest time of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. V2 Rocket The creation of the V 2 rocket was a very important and impactful invention by the German. There have been many cultural and social factors related to the creation of this rocket seeing how it was built during World War 2. The creation of this rocket has also made a huge impact on the U.S. and their aerospace field. There were many cultural factor in the development of the V2, one of those factors was that the Nazis party believed that Germans were the pinnacle of the human race, the Aryan race; thus, planning to instill fear into their enemies the development of the V2, a long range ballistic missiles, came to be. (Edward, 2011) The V2 was supposed to bombard England but was delayed until 1944 which at this point England had already been bombarded for over four years by conventional artillery. (Edward, 2011) Another cultural factor that played into the development of the V2 was the recession that afflicted Germany prior to the World War. The recession was one of the major reasons that led to the rise of Nazi party in Germany and the war that followed. It can be argued that if Germany did not experience a recession, there would not have been a world war or a need to develop the V2.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. George Mcclellan And Robert E. Lee In war, the commander in chief makes or breaks the efficiency and effectiveness of the army. The Civil War involved 3 main commanders in chief of the Union and Confederate Army. Through letters written by these three leaders, Ulysses S. Grant, George McClellan and Robert E. Lee, it is evident that their opinions and strategies differed greatly. While Grant considered himself part of the army, Lee separated himself as a ruling commander. Grant s humble nature and vast knowledge on war technique also made him a more efficient leader, compared to the egotistical George McClellan, another commander of the Union army. Ultimately, Grant and the union army won the war, because of Grant s hands on leaderships skills, while Lee lacked confidence in his troops, causing him to remove himself from his men. Throughout his time as commander in chief of the union army, Ulysses S. Grant understood and appreciated the commitment his soldiers made, as suggested by letters to his family, which forced him to focus greatly on war technique, ultimately allowing him to be a great leader of the Union army. In a letter written to his Father, in which he discusses the war, Grant states, I do not wish to act hastily or unadvisedly in the matter. Grant s cautiousness and attention to details, when his troops and his army are concerned, shows that all decisions he makes concerning his troops have been carefully thought out, so he doesn t put his troops in danger. Emergency Department Bottleneck Emergency Department Bottleneck Proposal Joyan Thomas University of Phoenix Online OPS/HC 571 Patience McGee March 7, 2011 Emergency Department Bottleneck Proposal Introduction Most hospitals experience the affects of the unexpected, ambiguity and uncertainty, and as a result, face challenges with quality. Middletown Hospital is a 200 bed general not for profit hospital. The hospital has a 20 bed Emergency Department (ED). It averages 100 patients per day. The CEO of the hospital has been receiving numerous complaints about long waits for care and poor service and has charged the Six Sigma team to analyze the root cause of the bottleneck (University of Phoenix, 2011 Course Syllabus). This paper analyses the root cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using time motion studies will give the team a complete assessment of the patient flow from registration to dismissal from the emergency room. Time motion studies will involve a step by step measurement of the length of time the patient spends in each phase of the process. Examining the cycle times over several days can identify the time bottlenecks are occurring in the patient flow process and at what stage. The goal of capacity planning is to ensure that patients move along the shortest and least costly path by avoiding as many delays as possible (Rechel, Wright, Barlow, McKee, 2010). Using capacity planning will systematically guide the team through analysis of the demand and availability of resources. Scheduling and controlling techniques With the six sigma authority in place, the first recommendation is to change the scheduling pattern of the shifts. By doing so they can put more doctors and nurses on the shift that falls from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. where the overloading of patients comes into the emergency room. When this is done, it will have adequate assistance to help with the high volume of patients coming into the emergency room during the 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. hours. Political Theories And Ideology Of Liberal Democracy Essay Many challenges put a stress on Modern Democracy because of the political theories and ideology our government holds, the current politicians taking office, inequalities throughout social classes and economies, and the opinions of We the People . Nearly every country claims to be some form of a democracy, but not all these self proclaimed democracies allow for free politics, good government, and rule of law (Crick, 2002). Liberal democracyhas begun to win over its royalist, fascist, and collectivist rivals over the course of the last few centuries, and the freedom to vote has been steadily expanded to those who were without it. But the liberal democracies of the world do have problems. Democracy is only as good as its citizens, and the quality of those citizens demands certain constant factors (7 Concerns, 2012). Gerrymandering is the process in which political boundaries are redraw or changed in order to benefit one political party over another one; if one party has power of the state legislature, then they can change political boundaries to maximize their chances of winning congressional districts to win an election. By doing this, unfair and skewed results are produced because redrawn lines can be made to help one party win over the other, since constituents for the losing party will be divided between districts (Tormsen, 2015). This will also allow the winning party to win more electoral votes and seats (Tormsen, 2015). This practice is uniquely American and can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Macroscopic Color Lab Abstract The purpose of these experiments is to find how the molecular components are affecting the macroscopic color of the solutions by recording the emission and absorbance spectrums for each solution. These experiments will help specify characteristics of the solution: its molecular and/or compounded configuration. Knowledge about the emission and absorbance information for the molecular composition allows for an identification to be made about the molecules or compounds within the solution, which then can be used to narrow down the possibilities for the solutions. The experiments will be conducted by observing the burning of the solutions to create emission spectrums and analyzing the solutions with a spectrophotometer to create the absorbance spectrums. Experimental Methods: Experiment 1 Absorbance Analysis Collect four cuvettes and add approximately 2/3 of the allowed volume to one of the cuvettes with distilled water. It appears that the nest took three months to build, but only a short time to remove. The wasps had managed to take up space in the woman s spare bedroom for at least three months. The woman s son had discovered the nest when he went to search the room for an item he needed. The room had been closed off, except for an open window. Paul Cazanne Paul CГ©zanne s Mount Sainte Victoire Paul CГ©zanne is often called the first modernist painter, and in his essay, CГ©zanne and the Unity of Modern Art Clement Greenberg, identifies CГ©zanne as the most abundant generator of ideas and the most enduring in newness (Greenberg,83). This, coming from one of the most influential art critics of the twentieth century, is not to be taken lightly. CГ©zanne was extremely influential to the modernist painters of the early twentieth, including Pablo Picasso and George Braque in their development of Cubism(Orfila,3). In order to increase the diversity of the population, a mixed selection operator based on the fitness value and the concentration value was given. To make full use of the characteristics of the problem itself, new crossoveroperator based on the machine and mutation operator based on the critical path were specifically designed. To find the critical path, a new algorithm to find the critical path from schedule was presented. Furthermore, a local search operator was designed, which can improve the local search ability of GA greatly. Based on all these, a hybrid genetic algorithmwas proposed and its convergence was proved. The computer simulations were made on a set of benchmark problems and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. OSA occurs when the upper airway collapse during sleep. Collapse of the upper airway may cause decreases in ventilation, but not complete cessation of it, with desaturation and arousal (hypopnea) and/or complete cessation of airflow for more than 10 seconds entitled apnea (Figure 1) 1. Common symptoms of OSA are frequent arousal, snoring, choking/gasping, daytime sleepiness, increased carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood (hypercapnea), and a decrease of oxygen level in the body (hypoxia). As stated before, OSA is more common in men than in women. Other factors that influence OSA are those with an increased body mass index, thick neck /circumference, small erythematous oropharynx, position of body during sleep (most commonly the supine position), medication, alcohol, or pre existing cardiac complications2. Usually, OSA is diagnosed by a sleep doctor monitoring the patient during a polysomnography (sleep study). Having a sleep study done is the gold standard diagnostic for assessing sleep disordered breathing. There is monitoring of the airflow of the nose and mouth, end tidal CO2, the patient s sleep state by electroencephalography, movement of the chest and abdomen, pulse oximetry, and blood pressure. When someone is seriously harmed by a medical professional to the point where they will be damaged for the rest of their life, they deserve to be compensated, especially if the person is a dependent and will need lifelong care. A serious example of this problem is the case of a couple in Nebraska whose son was born with cerebral palsy due to negligence by their obstetrician. When the case went to trial, the monetary value assessed for taking care of their son for the rest of his life was six million dollars, and the jury awarded them 5.6 million. However, the cap on all damages, both economic and noneconomic, is 1.25 million, so that was the amount of money the couple received (Hot Coffee). This is a problem for two reasons: caps limit the jury s ability to make a fair decision based on the trial, and the lack of money paid out by the doctor s insurance will have to be covered by taxpayers later. The point of a jury is to allow a panel of peers to judge a person s case and give a worthy compensation in the civil justice system, and caps take this away from the jury. • 46. Literacy Pedagogy Essay Effective teaching of literacy is developed through a deep understanding of the ways in which children learn, informing educators on the most beneficial pedagogical methods to utilise (Tompkins et al, 2012). Literacy pedagogy within the Australian context has changed drastically over time and has resulted in a myriad of pedagogical choices that influence contemporary literacy education(Kalantzis Cope, 2012). By critically analysing the changing approaches to literacy teaching within the Australian educational context, the four major literacy pedagogies: didactic, authentic, functional and critical can be explored linearly to highlight the theories behind each approach, their positive and negative attributes and how subsequent approaches have been integrated to result in a balanced approach to literacy education. Didactic pedagogy dates to the 1500 s and was the founding approach to literacy pedagogy when mass, compulsory, institutionalised education was first introduced in the 19th century (Kalantzis Cope, 2012). Didactic literacy education primarily involves lecturing and is essentially teacher centered (Banning, 2005). Didactic pedagogy is defined by the teacher controlling what is to be taught and how this information is to be delivered (Banning, 2005). The students role is to memorise and reproduce this content (Kalantzis Cope, 2012a). All of these corporations and acts were made to help create jobs and rebuild the Stock Market. Some of the greatest acts were the enacting of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
