Happiness In Silas Marner
Happiness can be found by going down many avenues; some created through love and connections,
and others through greed and petty implements used to fill voids of the soul. Throughout the book,
Silas Marner goes down many of these avenues to create happiness within himself. He first gained the
prized emotion in Lantern Yard through religion, but when he loses that through tragedy, he
obsessively tries to obtain enough gold to fill the void. However, when Eppie comes into his life, Silas
soon learns that love, community, and family connection is what brings true happiness to him.
In Lantern Yard, Marner was a very active member in the church and community. When described as a
brother of the church, he was said to be a young man of exemplary life and ardent faith (Eliot 6). The
particular choice of adjectives used to describe his faith in the Lord supports in full how content
Marner is in this life when he is involved in his religion. Use of the word ardent , meaning enthusiastic
and passionate, to describe his faith are how those experiencing utter content are portrayed as. Another
adjective used to create expression is exemplary , meaning serving as a perfect model. This proves the
claim of Silas happiness because nobody would want to be like a man who is isolated and sorrowful.
So, it is by passionate faith that Marner realizes happiness.
When tragedy strikes, Marner is stripped of his faith and community. He resorts to greed in a
desperate attempt to fill the void

Analysis Of Bell Hooks And Frantz Fanon
Both philosophers, bell hooks and Frantz Fanon, address the problem of equality. In Feminism is for
Everybody, hooks defines feminism as a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression.
Hooks begins by stating feminism is for everybody (2000) and that it is an attempt to end sexism
though reform feminism. In Racism and Culture, Fanon investigates whether ending racism is due to
cultural relativity. In the book by Gloria Anzaldua Borderlands/La Frontera, she describes the personal
struggles she faced through her insecurities relative to the society that exists today. In agreement,
Fanon believes racism can be eliminated once the idea of superiority is rejected amongst people. This
paper investigates both views of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reformist feminism became their route to class mobility... while sexism did not end, they could
maximize their freedom within the existing system (Hooks, 5). It is seen through reform feminists that
women are trying take the role of men in terms of hierarchy by trying to move up in terms of class.
For example, working in the Federal Bureau of Investigation is portrayed such that women are
secretaries and men are the ones leading investigations out in the field especially on television.
Broadcasting this ideology is partially to blame for the existence of sexism. Consequently, reform
feminism is subjected towards gender equality seen as a classification.
Fanon believes that there are three stages to racism and culture. One of these stages include people
having no culture through the justification of slavery. Racism, as we have seen, is only one element of
a vaster whole: that of the systematized oppression of a people (Fanon, 3). Slavery is a form of
ownership where a person known as a slave is controlled and forced to work. This is a historical
example of the oppressed that are taken advantage of and used due to the fact that they are labeled as
property. Racism is something that can be eliminated once the notion that superiority exists amongst
people is rejected.
There are many similarities between Hooks and Fanon in terms of eliminating sexism and oppression
in its entirety. Hooks and Fanon both agree that

Evaluation of a Strategy for Increase in Car Production
The Morgan motor company is a small conservative company that is based in the north of England
that is a producer of hand made, high quality cars. The purpose of the strategy is to identify the cause
of the problem that is currently meaning that Morgan can only produce around nine cars per week.
Despite this the company has much strength in the way that it operates, for example the company has
a background of being very traditional. Job production has provided a very highly skilled and
committed workforce and has enabled the production of a high quality.
The negative culture and resistance to change of the workforce and management has ... Show more

The company has become so outdated that it may be better for the company to begin from scratch.
In order to identify the causes of the problem the Morgan Company would need to carry out three
different studies, these are:
* A Works Study
* Market Research
* A analysis of the accounts and sales of the company
The main purpose of the works study would provide Morgan with the evidence of the problem within
the company and to highlight the specific problems in the company. For example the poor logistics
and layout of the factory which means that the cars have to be manually moved around the factory
from one stage to another. The works study will highlight the areas that need to be improved by the
business, and how they can be improved, for example the car is predominantly made by hand, can be
improved by the incorporation of tooling which is likely to make little difference to the nature and
finished quality of the product. The work study would highlight the problem of the length of
production for the product which is currently three months and how this could be improved. The work
study will be used to show the management and workforce the need for

Colin Powell Visionary Leadership
A lifetime of service to his country, Colin Powell had become a national hero right before our eyes. He
was selected as the only African American Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff to lead the strongest
military in the Desert Shield and Desert Storm War. His leadership was showcased as the Secretary of
State advising President Bush. Colin Powell was viewed the The most trusted man in America
(DeYoung, 2006) to American people. He was considered a visionary and ethical leader because of
wise leadership from his positions at highest level of government for four presidential administrations.
He has helped guide the nation through some of it most heart wrenching hours. Colin Powell is
considered a visionary because he developed the Powell Doctrine by using idealized influence to
persuade President Bush to use overwhelming force to essential win the war in 4 days. Also, he was an
ethical leader by challenging the Republican Party on race against African Americans as he supported
Barack Obama during the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns. Because of this support he fell into
the ethical trap of the loyalty syndrome to Barack Obama or the Republican party. I ll also discuss my
personal relevance to visionary leadership for leading the Fitness Improvement Program (FIP). I too
fell into an ethical trap by displaying loyalty syndrome to my friend that I knew was abusing drug,
where I stood by as a bystander and didn t do anything about it. Let s start by discussing

Why Iq Tests Be Considered Biased Measures Of Intelligence
1. Why might IQ tests be considered biased measures of intelligence? (5 points)
a. IQ tests can be considered biased measures of intelligence, as there are many factors that have to
deal with it. Even though IQ test are total fairness it all depends on a person s social interaction rate.
For example, if a test taker comes from a third world country where education is not available vs. a
test taker here the scores will range. Bias is present when a test score has implications that relevant

2. What is the relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary regions of the cortex in
information processing? (5 points)
a. The relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary regions of the cortex in information
processing is that they are more directly involved with each other than others with sensory or motor
processing. The primary cortex receives information from the peripheral receptors, which then travels
to surrounding primary areas known as secondary and tertiary regions of the cortex where incoming
information is integrated.

The Parallels Of Japanese Internees And American Pows
The Parallels of Japanese Internees and American POWs War can be loud and visible or quiet and
remote. It affects the individual and entire societies, the soldier, and the civilian. Both U.S. prisoners
of war in Japan and Japanese American citizens in the United States during WWII undergo efforts to
make them invisible. Laura Hillenbrand s Unbroken hero, Louie Zamperini, like so many other
POWs, is imprisoned, beaten, and denied basic human rights in POW camps throughout Japan. Miné
Okubo, a U.S. citizen by birth, is removed from society and interned in a protective custody camp for
Japanese American citizens. She is one of the many Japanese Americans who were interned for the
duration of the war. Louie Zamperini, as a POW in Japan, and Miné Okubo, as a Japanese American
Internee both experience efforts to make them invisible through dehumanization and isolation in the
camps of WWII, and both resist these efforts. From a very early age, Louie Zamperini was a visible
young man. His charismatic/rebellious ways, and his athletic accomplishments continually put him in
the spotlight, but years in Japanese POWs camps slowly eroded his visibility. He, like so many others
in captivity, experienced efforts to make him invisible. During WWII, POWs were systematically
stripped of their dignity in the camps of Japan, and as Hillenbrand writes, without dignity, identity is
erased (189). Dehumanizing tactics by Japanese guards deny prisoners of their dignity and humanity.

Ensuring that people have access to food is perhaps one of the most immediate concerns following a
disaster, such as a storm, earthquake, civil disturbance, or a flood. The Federal Emergency

Ancient Cannibalism
Humans have always been drawn to knowing the grotesque, disgusting, and depraving truths of the
world, but when it comes down to the question of whether a human has done any of those things, they
always try to avoid the topic. Early cannibalism is one of the truths of the world that modern humans
have yet to come to terms with and most argue that their ancestors could not have practiced this; they
claimed that only early civilizations and early humans that were perverse practiced it. Contrary to
widespread belief, cannibalism was not considered a taboo in early civilizations and was in fact a
frequent practice among early humans because it was part of their tradition or was done out of
necessity. It can be said that ancient cannibalism dates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, regarding the past, it can be said that cannibalism as a frequent practice amongst early
humans was not a stretch because it was practiced by many early humans to have a good harvest, to
celebrate victories, and to even mourn the dead. One such example of this ritual would be with the
Khonds, an ancient Dravidian tribe from Bengal, who sacrificed and ate one of their own to ensure a
ripe harvest. This victim... was first treated with great reverence, then strangled...His flesh was then
distributed to the various tribal leaders (121). Another example of the cannibalistic tradition of early
humans would be the Wari tribe, a cannibalistic tribe that has been around since the fifteenth century,
who mourned by processing and eating their loved ones body parts. Essentially, when a Wari s loved
one died, they would gather all their close relatives and then proceed to roast and then consume their
dead relative. If it was a child that died, the body could be processed, roasted, and consumed the same
or following day as the child s immediate family was already present (Travis Heinikoff, 168). The
Wari practiced this ritual because they believed that it helped the dead cross over into the afterlife and
also allow the family members to properly mourn their loved one as they were roasted. Both tribes
practiced cannibalism because they genuinely felt that by doing this, they were helping out their tribe
and believed that there was nothing wrong with it. In a way, it could be compared to how Catholics
continuously attend church to receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ, and although the Catholics
are not as quite as literal as early cannibals, they genuinely believe that receiving the body and blood
of Christ will help them spiritually and sometimes even physically. It

Dark Age Ahead, By Jane Jacobs
In her novel, Dark Age Ahead, Jane Jacobs discusses why five pillars of society are in danger. These
five pillars are families rigged to fail, credentialing versus education, science abandoned, and dumb
downed taxes and self policing subverted. She goes into detail as to why each of these sections of our
society is struggling and is destined for a dark age. However, for the purpose of this paper, I will focus
on education and my agreement as to how educational institutions are focusing on credentialing its
student instead of educating them. When entering a postsecondary education institution, parents and
students alike believe that a good education is a ticket to a successful job after graduation. This is
especially true when the cost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These numbers can be frightening for students who have to take out loans to finance their education.
However, many students do not understand what is waiting for them after graduation. Students are
encouraged to pick a subject to study that interest them; although this is important, students also need
to look at the job opportunities available in that field of study. For example, many young students
aspire to become teachers, the job definitely has some perks, but finding a full time job in teaching can
be difficult. According to Maclean s 67 per cent of education graduates from Ontario s class of 2009
found themselves unemployed or underemployed in the following year (Dehaas 2011). When there are
little to no job opportunities students begin to feel the pressure and retreat back to what they know,
school. Graduate school seems great and all, but sometimes it is not the right track to take. Students
accumulate more debt, become more specialized and expect higher pay because of their higher
education. The Economist reports, In Canada 80% of postdocs earn $38,600 or less per year before tax
the average salary of a construction worker (The Economist 2010). Students need to weigh their
options before running back to school. It might be best to work at a local restaurant for a year while
looking for a job in your career. When young students are faced with the option to attend university or
college many often sign up without any questions because they do not want

Cultural Differences And Diversity Of The Australian Media
The Australian media plays a prominent role in influencing the way society makes sense of the world
and its relations with others through portraying certain dominant discourses of politics, cultures and
current affairs. Through this it can have positive and negative effects on cultural differences
experienced within multicultural Australia. This essay will discuss the discourses that are prevalent in
commercial and non commercial television about cultural differences and diversity, and how this can
either promote or denounce the inclusiveness of communities or allowing alternative voices to be
heard.

When commercial television is discussing and prevailing such dominant discourses about ideas of
marriage, terrorism, socio economic statuses, mental health, politics and other cultures, it has the
ability to disempower difference through only explaining these issues from one view point of view or
a singular representation. This constant widespread negative coverage of minorities or other cultures
can misguide Australian attitudes and viewpoints, to further reaffirm certain prejudices or biases by
only being exposed to the negative actions of a group (Jacobs Kershen 2011). This Symbolic violence
can describe minorities in a way that leaves them voiceless, ignored and condemned through media
and the views of larger society (Venzo Hess 2013). When ethnic minorities are shown in a prominent
role on commercial television or a news segment, it is usually in relation to crime and disorder or from
being a perceived social threat to the Australian culture or way of life (Phillips 2011). Although all
broadcasting media need to follow protocols within their policies to avoid representing ethnic and
religious communities in ways that are discriminatory within their practice, it is still conducted in a
way that disempowers these communities and maintains the prejudices against them (Phillips 2011).
An example of this is how

Summary Of The Play The Sapphires
The Sapphires, a film directed by Wayne Blair released in 2012, is a comedic drama based on a true
story set in 1968 about four young, talented singers from a remote aboriginal reserve, who call
themselves The Sapphires, get discovered by an unlikely talent scout. The Sapphires grasp the chance
of a lifetime when they re offered to travel to Vietnam where their all girl group will perform for the

women who try and follow their dreams of being famous during a time where war has taken over. In
the 1950s, the Aboriginal population of Australia was considered not human and ignored by society,
aborigines were not yet accepted as citizens in Australia because of the stereotypical image white
people have created for aborigines. Which gives more meaning to this story because it shows a group

Essay about Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid is a group of chemicals known as alpha hydroxyl acids or fruit acids. It is mainly
derived from sugar cane, and hence it is a natural product. The citric acid found in oranges and other
citrus fruits also come under the same division as glycolic acids. The glycolic acid acne treatment can
be effectively used to treat some cases of acne.
Glycolic acid is mostly used in cosmetic forms rather than industrial. It is usually used as a skin

These chemical peels can also be used for improving the appearance of the skin which is damaged by
previous acne scarring.
Characteristics of glycolic acid
Glycolic acid acne therapy is basically derived from sugar cane. It is a member of the alpha hydroxyl
family of ingredients which are used in skin care and cosmetic treatments. the glycolic acid is an
important part of the light chemical peels, used by the skin specialists to loosen the black heads and
also reduce the number of papules which are caused due to acne. Glycolic acid is also used in
superficial to moderate chemical peels which are used to remove the acne damaged tissues to allow a
new and fresh skin to appear.
Effects of glycolic acid acne treatment
Glycolic acid can make the skin sensitive than normal. This is why it is best to always test a small area
of the skin before you start using the glycolic acid acne treatment on your skin.
Glycolic acid exfoliates the skin. The glycolic acid travels deep below the acne blemishes and breaks
down the dead skin cells that are clogging the pores.
Glycolic acid also has an ability to moisturize your skin after it removes the dead skin cells. This
allows the acne prone skin to remain moisturized and prevent drying out and promoting more
production of more oil to compensate for the moisture that was lost in the treatment process.
When you are using the glycolic acid acne products, prevent sun exposure on your skin or

User Experience
We found that as we defined the use cases we began immediately thinking about how the use cases
would look as a user interface and user experience. The user experience is an important piece to the
overall puzzle of creating software. According to blog writer Dmitry Fadeyev a good user interface
needs to be clear, concise, familiar, responsive, consistent, attractive, efficient, and forgiving
(Fadeyev, 2009). When we set out to come up with a mocked user interface we talked about what
items would make these graphics easy to understand. As well what would make them pop on the page
or whatever would display them. For this we came up with a decent mocked set of graphics in html to
emulate what the user would see in the interface for the application. This set of mocked up graphics
would prove to be attractive, consistent, and even familiar. The other items on the list such as
responsiveness, efficiency, and forgiveness would have to be realized after the actual development
itself was accomplished.
The screen shots in Appendix E clearly show the basic principals we attempted to mock/create. We

Essay On Law Enforcement Education
Law Enforcement Education and Training in the 21st Century and its Relation to Police
Professionalization
There is a great debate over the question of whether American law enforcement has achieved the
status of a profession. In order to answer this question, there is a need to define what a profession is
and identify the requisite attributes that qualifies an occupation to be identified as a profession.
Criminal justice administrators have been actively pursuing professionalization for their chosen
vocation while police researchers have been making recommendations which require increasing levels
of higher education and an expanded college curricula for law enforcement service (Carter, Sapp,
Stephens, State of Police Education: Policy Direction for the 21st Century, 1989). However, it seems
that part of the challenge of professionalization is the lack of general understanding of the concept.
Professionalization occurs when an occupation ceases to be irregular in operation and transforms itself
by ...the development of formal qualifications based upon education, apprenticeship, and
examinations, the emergence of regulatory bodies with powers to admit and discipline members, and
some degree of monopoly rights. (Bullock Trombley, 1999, p. 689).
A substantive definition for profession has been elusive in the literature review; therefore, a profession
can be constructively defined as a full time, remunerated, services oriented vocation governed by a
code of ethics and based on

Born on the Fourth of July was a very captivating and powerful film that will have a lasting effect on

tells the true story of Ron Kovic, an American kid from Massapequa, Long Island that fought in the
Vietnam War, who is played by Tom Cruise. It also stars Kyra Segwick, Raymond J. Barry, William
Dafoe, and Frank Whaley. This film accurately illustrates not only what went on for the soldiers

He fully believed everything that was told to him about Communism spreading and how easy it would
be for the Americans to win the war. These beliefs were widespread largely because the government
said that they were true, and people believed almost all of what the government said at this time. We
had emerged as a bipolar superpower after World War II. The other major power in the world was the
Soviet Union, which had a completely different form of government and type of economy from us:
Communism. One of the main ideas behind Communism was that everyone should be the same, and
no one should be ahead of anyone else in life. This was very attractive to many working class people
throughout the planet that were tired of poverty and cruel governments. Therefore, Communism began
to spread which scared Americans and especially the American government very much. A theory
called the domino theory began to spread throughout American society that claimed that Communism
would continue to spread across borders in an outward direction from the Russian center until it
covered the entire planet; that is, unless it was stopped by an outside force (like the American
military). This fear led to the McCarthy Era where something similar to a witch hunt for communists

Compromise For The Compromise Of 1850
Compromise that means to come to an agreement, a settlement that brings peace, but not without some
discomfort for both sides. This compromise is hopefully long lasting and satisfying to both sides and
brings with it a rest. The Compromise of 1850 sounds like exactly that, but there is more to this
compromise. This compromise came when there was much dispute about the future of the western
lands recently acquired from the Mexican government California, Utah, and New Mexico. The
Southerners of America wanted the states entered into the union as slave states, while the Northerners
wanted them entered as free states. When this issue became more heated and continued to escalate,
The Great Compromiser, Mr. Henry Clay himself, came out of retirement to do his thing and create a
compromise. He proposed that California would enter the union as a Slave State and Utah and New
Mexico would enter as neutral, being neither a slave nor free state. Parts of both the North and the
South hated and liked this plan. Some misanthropists in the South threatened to secede from the union
and while the majority knew that to be rubbish at the time, it did eventually come true with the start of
the Civil War. The North wanted to see slavery come to an end and were fighting tooth and nail to see
that through. After months of debating and changes made to Clay s compromise it was eventually put
into action. There was still unrest in both the North and South, and the compromise only

Programmers have one mantra: Keep up or die trying. Ben Mezrich beautifully embodied all of this in
his book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook. Facebook, now a $547 billion dollar
company, drove best friends Mark and Eduardo apart. Mark Zuckerberg, a genius hacker who was so
advanced he was on an F.B.I watchlist, and Eduardo Saverin, a genius investor who was confident and
dressed well, both met at a Phoenix Club punching event. The Phoenix club was the club for the
socially elite, and both were invited on account of being geniuses. When Eduardo was invited to the
next event and eventually was invited to join, it was apparent that Mark was very Jealous. It was hard

getting so many uses that the universities bandwidth completely crashed. Mark got reprimanded, and
he decided to take up a more well perceived project. Two very rich twins asked him to code their
dating website, and he took it up. He later realized that there were many fundamental flaws in the site
and dropped away. He started his own venture: thefacebook.com. Eduardo provided the initial money
and it was a hit. It spread like an infection and 4000 users had joined by the night. As things grew,
Mark decided to move to the silicon valley to be right in the middle of the tech industry. That s where
Sean Parker came into play. He was a wild spirit and was an idol to Mark. Sean wanted Eduardo out

Happy County Community College
Happy County Community College was established in 1968. According to The American Community
College book (2014), Cohen, Brawer, and Kisker proposed that community colleges were established
to train individuals to operate the nation s expanding industries. However, most community colleges
have evolved with the time and new demands from industries (Cohen, Brawer, Kisker, 2014). HCCC
seemed to be stuck in time the twentieth century. At HCCC, facilities were dilapidated, equipment was
old, and programs were ineffective (Staat, n.d.). Additionally, Happy County was a thriving and
prosperous county, people worked in textile mills. There were ten textile mills in the surrounding areas
of Happy County. The textile mill owners built baseball diamonds, a football field, golf courses, and a
civic center. Individuals who worked for the textiles mills were considered middle class families and
parents encouraged their children to become employed at the textile mills once they graduated from
high school.

A Community College Case Study Happy County once was a thriving county, because of their many
textile mills. However, in 2009, Happy County became economically destitute. For instance, all but
one mill closed down and many people lost their jobs. Some employees took bonuses packages, but
the job was gone (Staat, n.d.). Prior to the mills closing down, parents often time wanted their children

Comparative Analysis of Ariel by Sylvia Plath and The...
Plath in Ariel and Larkin in The Whitsun Weddings both explore ideas about love and relationships.
The Whitsun Weddings explores the theme of love and relationships by capturing the journey that
takes place prior to marriage; the poem was written about Larkin s observation of marriage parties on
whit Sunday (now known as May Day) which was a public holiday and was traditionally the day on
which people would get married. The Whitsun Weddings takes on a somewhat cynical tone which is
emblematic of Larkin s negative views regarding marriage and long term relationships. The Applicant
by Plath presents the reader with a critique of marriage by depicting the selection process that men and
women alike have to go through when it comes to marriage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This quote demonstrates the superficial nature of marriage and its lack of true meaning. The use of
anatomical imagery gives the poem an eerie aspect and leads the reader to wonder whether marriage is
really about love or in fact about meeting a set criteria and conforming to society s view on acceptable
relationships which during the sixties was somewhat narrow, although it was post sexual revolution
there was still a lot more work to be done in terms of eradicating stigma. The use of the first person
plural our in the first line suggests to the reader that the persona is not one entity but perhaps, the
voice and the collective conscience of society. In the Whitsun Weddings Larkin documents his
observations whilst aboard a train on Whit Sunday (a day on which it was common for people to get
married). Larkin conveys his ideas about relationships from the poem s inception; That Whitsun I was
late getting away . The use of the first person pronoun I suggests that Larkin was planning a get away
by himself and is happy in his own company, which may be viewed as somewhat strange considering
that bank holidays are often times to go away with family or significant others; this ties into his lack of
interest in marriage and traditional family structures

Cultural Changes In North Korea
Once a unified nation, Korea was divided into North and South because of ideological and global
geopolitical conflict (Priddy, 2013). After World War II, Soviet era communism and western liberal
capitalism were the architects that separated the Koreas. Officially known as the Democratic People s
Republic of Korea, North Korea followed the communist methodologies. This was a totalitarian
system that further enabled them to become an aggressive regime that controlled its people through
cultural change. Consequently, despite the 66 year conflict, an estimated 24 million North Korean
people have adapted and lived a life in cultural isolationism. The meaning of culture is a culmination

Specifically, the country has fought against the Chinese, Russians, and Japanese. In 1945, at the end of
World War II, North Korea allied with China while South Korea allied with the United States of
America. The Korean War began on 25 June 1950 and eventually, a stalemate occurred where neither
force could advance. The creation of the 38th Parallel resulted in a military demarcation line and the
northern limit line separating the two countries. Ultimately, on 27 July 1953, those involved signed the
Korean Armistice, halting any military provocation but not ending the war. The country remains
isolated and their only real ally currently is China. Meanwhile, over the years the United States and
South Korea have continued to perform semi annual joint exercises together in preparation for
possible North Korean military aggression. This has stirred controversy as the hermit kingdom views
these actions as threatening to the regime s existence. For this reason, North Korea has initiated
provocations within the peninsula by firing intercontinental ballistic missiles near Guam and over
Japan, into the Pacific Ocean. In response to these provocations, United Nations members voted to go

Observation Of Daya
During this past week, I was enjoying some relaxation time from my busy and hectic schedule and
watching some Netflix. I was watching an episode of Orange Is The New Black, form Season 1. The
overall summary of the episode that I was watching was that there was an inmate, Daya, who was
pregnant from one of the prison guards who also happens to be her boyfriend. In a panic of trying to
protect the boyfriend/prison guard from being fired once it is figured out that Daya is pregnant,
multiple inmates work together in coming up with a plan trying to help out Daya. The helpers include
Daya s family members, people from the same race, and a couple random women from a different
clique. It was a little odd that all these inmates were working together trying to help out Daya in such
an involved and difficult situation. All of these women who are usually at each other s throats are now
working together trying to come up with solutions. In addition to this, the solution that the group
decided on, was given by one the women from the outside clique, which was odd. However, we later

Daya s mother was helping out was because she wanted to make sure her grandchild was going to be

Fear In Disney Movies
Growing up and being the youngest of three girls means a great deal of dress up, makeovers, tea

to modesty and responsibility, they have enforced it all. However, when I wasn t running around with
my family having a blast, I would have one of my parents throw in a Disney movie so all of us could

Christianity And The Rise Of Christianity
Christianity is the historical religion stemming from the teachings of Jesus Christ in the 1st century
AD. Of all the great religions Christianity is the most widespread and has the largest number of
adherents. It is the world s largest and most influential religion in history. Christianity can be found on
every corner of the globe with nearly two billion followers at the beginning of the 21st century. It is
the predominant religion in Europe, the Americas, and Southern Africa. This religion based on faith
began as a small sect of Judaism during the 1st century in ancient Israel and spread to the Americas
and the rest of the world through colonization and Christian missionaries. Christianity has played a
conspicuous role in the shaping of Western civilization. The impact and the rapid spread of this
religion eventually came to dominate the Western world.
Christianity
Christianity is the monotheistic religion based upon the life, oral teachings and miracles of Jesus of
Nazareth. Jesus lived in Palestine during the first century. The adherents of this religion believe that
Jesus is the messiah prophesied in the Old Testament. They believe that Jesus is the son of God and
the anointed one that God sent to this world to save people from their sins. Most Christians believe in
one God in three Persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. A Christian hopes to attain eternal
life after death through faith in Jesus Christ and tries to live according to his teachings. The

The Kenmore Midget Baseball Board
The Kenmore Midget Baseball board relied entirely upon one person to run the organization and as a
result needs to create a new structure in which board members are more involved. After the board of
the Kenmore Midget Baseball League voted against allowing the chairwoman Sarah s husband to take
over the league s concession stand (as it was a clear conflict of interest) Sarah left the organization
abruptly and rather dramatically. While Sarah s departure was an initial blow to the league, over time
it came to be seen as a great opportunity to rebuild the organization and this time build a more
balanced, stronger organization. The main lesson learned was that the board needed to govern as a
collective and that it was each person s responsibility to contribute to the well being of the league. In
the following paragraphs I will discuss what went wrong while Sarah was the league chair and how
the league board will be able to address these issues.
Gill puts forth his four pillars of excellence in which he thinks every good board possessed. These
pillars are Board Development, Management of board work and meetings, decision making and .
board and organizational culture.Throughout this paper I will show how after the departure of sarah
the league designed and created a good board by implementing each pillar. At first glance it may have
appeared as if Sarah was an asset to the organization but upon further inspection one can determine

Access Controls Provide A Mechanism
Introduction
Access Controls provide a mechanism, which allows an administrator to ensure that appropriate
techniques are in place to control how users interact with an IT system. It provides an avenue where
restrictions can be developed, specifying what a user can do, the resources they can access, and the
functions they can execute on a system. It is aligned with the three main security principles;
confidentiality, integrity and availability. This alignment ensures that data and resources within an IT
system will remain confidential as required, the structure will remain intact and these objects will
remain available, so as not to diminish the functionality of the system. Access controls that are
incorporated into a security plan are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the difficulties in managing this access arises from the need to provide a variety of user s
access, each requiring a different type of access to the system. For the sake of security, the need to
manage this access should be defined by one or more of the following frameworks; Role Based
Access Control (RBAC), Discretionary Access Controls (DAC), Mandatory Access Control (MAC),
and Mandatory Access Control (MAC).
Statement of Purpose
The current state of the organization s access control management system is consistent with that of the
DAC model. A recent move to outsource certain business practices and continued organizational
growth has created an environment where increases in employee hiring s and employee turnover are
inevitable. An analysis of various methods of access control has been requested, so that we can better
understand how specific access control attacks are perpetrated and their origin. Information will be
collected and then analyzed in order to substantiate any recommended changes to the current access
control configurations. RBAC, DAC, and MAC will be compared and contrasted, in order to gain
insight, as to how each plays a role in reducing the risk to a system, along with identifying the
strengths and weaknesses of each. These results, along with a detailed recommendation will be
presented to executive management, in order to generate the necessary support for altering the current

Mc Organic Acid
After exposing the sample to UV radiation the visible band is determine to be at the maximum
absorbance, as shown in Figure 1. This absorbance band at 563 nm and 579 nm corresponds to the
reaction SP → MC. By monitoring the exponential decay function of MC, we are able to construct a
linear fit of the data, as shown in Figure 3, which confirms a first order decay. The corresponding rate
constants were determined from the slope of the fit, and it was found that as we increase [SP] the rate
is relatively constant. Further, this reaction was done on different solvents, which includes acetone and
cyclohexane. Following Table 2, it seems that with the addition of cyclohexane, the rate of decay of
MC is faster. This indicates that due to the non polar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the inclusion of an organic acid, it protonates the MC to form MCH+. This compound itself has a
different absorbance band relative to MC, which was found to be around 408 nm in acetone and 453
nm in cyclohexane. Because the reaction must follow this sequence MCH+→ MC → SP, the
corresponding rate of decay must be slower. As shown in Table 1 and 2, the decay rate with the
addition of TFA is significantly lower relative to just SP in the solution. However, increasing acid
concentration slows down the decay rate because more of MC is being converted to MCH+. Ergo, it
will have a longer process to convert all of the MCH+ back into SP. Again, comparing the rate of
decay of MCH+ at different solvents, it was determined that the environment did not have a drastic
effect on the conversion. In addition, the average of the rate of decay was calculated for the first four
samples and was found to be 0.00630 s 1 and 0.0243 s 1 for acetone and cyclohexane, respectively,
which gave an error of 26.0 % and 40.3 %. The inconsistency with these values was most likely
caused by the insufficient time interval for the monitoring of the decay of

SWOT
Interestingly enough, there are different levels of overlap between my SWOT analysis, and those
provided to me by others. There is not a consistent characteristic that appears in every single SWOT,
but certain characteristics appear in two or three. The most common strengths that appeared in the
SWOTs were leadership, charisma, and empathy. When I was answering the strengths section of the
self SWOT, I thought others mentioned generosity, listening and thoughtfulness. I can see overlap in
my perception of how others see me, and how they actually do see me, but I had not anticipated
leadership as something that would have been visible. In high school, I was actively involved in
leadership roles such as student council, worship bands, yearbook management, and the National
Honor Society, but at JBU I have failed to truly involve myself in any structured leadership. The
opportunities people pointed out for me, as well as the ones I see would be beneficial, would include
environments and projects conducive to creativity and interaction with others. As someone who is
energized by others, I believe that working in with a motivated team of individuals would be a great
opportunity to develop my strengths. In most of the SWOTs, the weaknesses did not overlap.
Personally, I would identify my lack of motivation and inability to focus extensively as the largest
weaknesses. These weaknesses were reaffirmed by a couple of the other SWOTs.

Heaney Blackberry-Picking
The childlike indulgence of blackberry picking has the key to understanding adversity. In Blackberry
Pickings , a twentieth century poem by Seamus Heaney, the author conveys a deeper understanding of
blackberry pickings by using similes and imagery to compare blackberry pickings to human suffering.
Heaney s use of imagery reveals the deeper meaning of the poem by creating a comparison between
blackberries and humans. Humans have diverse characteristics like blackberries. We are a glossy
purple clot/ among others, red, green, hard as a knot (3 4). Before suffering occurs, Heaney says
humans are different but one thing remains a common attribute: their flesh was sweet (5). Humans
without suffering in their lives grow and develop into pleasant individuals. The author s imagery
portrays the juicy sweetness of blackberries as a positive quality that humans can own. After humans
pick blueberries, they change. The sweet flesh would turn sour (21). When suffering harvests humans,
they also change. The deeper meaning of human suffering uncovers itself as our hands were peppered/

develop into big dark blobs burned/ like a plate of eyes (14 15). The simile the author uses indicates

Comparing The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight
How culture affects our views Today s culture changes how we behave and act. The Lone Ranger and

For example, in The Lone Ranger the narrator is stopped by the police as they said You re making

The Incident Of Troy University s Homecoming
Something bad is about to happen, I stated as I looked over to my cousin s best friend. Apparently, I
had spoken too soon. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically running in every
direction. What had just happened was not expected and had definitely never taken place before. Troy
University s Homecoming Weekend in the past years had never encountered violence on this level.
There was maybe a fight here and there, but never gunshots. I had never been so scared in my life.
Troy University Homecoming 2016 had officially been ruined after this night. That weekend began
like any other homecoming weekend. It was filled with fraternity parties, tailgating, and much more.
The previous night, me, my cousin, and her friends ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We all followed. While waiting at the front door, I constantly observed my surroundings. A sense of
nervousness came over my body as I began to look at the capacity of people standing outside waiting.
That s when I noticed two groups of people having a confrontation right behind my group of friends.
The conversation quickly escalated as one of the members of the group swings a punch at another
member of the other group. The brawl was on; in a blink of an eye, both groups were on the ground
tumbling and throwing punches. People were running towards the fight for some odd reason; instead,
me and the girls ran towards the door of the building. Something bad is about to happen, I stated as I
looked over to my cousin s best friend. Apparently I had spoken too soon. As I watched one of the
members of the fight get up from the ground and reach into his pocket, I knew what was coming next.
Fear immediately took over my body. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically
running in every direction. I began to bang on the door of the building in terror. Thankfully, someone
inside the party heard the gunshots, and ran to open the door for us. Everyone stampeded into the
lobby of Sartain Hall like a herd of animals. I looked over to my right, in hopes that at least my cousin
had made it inside the building. She was nowhere to be found. I desperately began to search for my
cousin amongst the crowd of flustered people. Tia! I m right here!

Dr. Brooks Works At Two Different Medical Offices ( Mo1...
Dr. Brooks works at two different medical offices (MO1 and MO2). He demands to have access to
patient information from both locations at any time. He wants to use his personal laptop to access the
EHR and resources for both offices.
Solution 1 Set Dr. Brooks up with a network account under each active directory domain: have him
log in to whichever one he needs access to at the time. Although he may be physically working from
MO1, he will likely still need to access resources from MO2 and vice versa.
This solution would involve creation of trust relationships between domains in the MO forest. The
administrator will create a transitive trust between MO1 and MO2.The MO1 where Dr.Brooks sits
would be the parent domain and the MO2 will be the child domain in the MO active directory forest.
The MO2 will automatically share resources with MO1 domain by default with authenticated users in
both domains. Dr. Brook will thus be able to access resources from both MO1 and MO2 medical
offices. This solution set up eradicates the hardware dependence as Dr.Brooks can log in from a
different laptop or desktop in the network. Depending on the access controls assigned on him by the
trusting domain he can access folders, files and virtual containers. An authentication authority is
responsible for the computer and user identity verification.
An information security benchmark model (CIA) an acronym for information Confidentiality,
Integrity and Availability can be used to evaluate the solution

Colonial Conflict With England
Over the years historians have offered three broad explanations political, constitutional, and economic
for the growth of the colonial conflict with England. Of these three explanations, which one do you
think best fits the available evidence?
Many issues between the colonies and England occurred because of political, constitutional, and
economic reasons. Most of the issues occurred because of economic issues. These issues include the
Navigation Acts, Sugar Act, and the Stamp Act. These economic issues best describes the growth of
colonial conflict with England in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Navigation Acts started with
prohibiting Dutch ships from sailing to the English colonies (3.4). Charles II adopted three more

The English were able to tax the goods that came through their ports. England was also one of the
only European countries that would have tobacco; so many people wanted it and bought it from their
merchants. Many European countries didn t trade with the colonies because of the strict Navigation
Acts. This meant that many goods from the colonies went straight to England and vice versa. The
Sugar Act was enacted to stop the illegal sugar trade between the colonies and the French and Spanish
West Indies. The act strengthened the enforcement on sugar. While lowering the tax of molasses, the
market from sugar grown in the colonies was decreasing. The colonists were so outraged they
encouraged smugglers to bring sugar into the colonies. This is one of the reasons that there was
conflict between the colonies and England. The Stamp Act was enacted in 1765. The Stamp Act
imposed a tax on licenses, wills, pamphlets, deeds, almanacs, newspapers, and more printed
documents. This act affected most of the people in the colonies. People like merchants, lawyers,
tavern owners, political leaders, and printers were obliged to buy stamps. Merchants used stamps for
ships papers, lawyers for legal papers, tavern owners for their licenses, and printers for newspapers
and other publications. England enacted the Stamp Act to make a profit off the colonies. The colonists
were very unhappy with this and worked to change

Yog Yoga And Yoga
In addition to meditation, yoga is also an important practice in Hinduism as well
as in Tibetan Buddhism. Yoga is used as a means to enlightenment and has influenced
other religious and spiritual practices throughout the world. The Bhagavad Gita and the
Yogasutra are some of the scriptures that establish the basis for yoga. The four main
types of yoga are Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga and Raja Yoga. Yoga helps
gain a mastery over the body and mind and can lead to the knowledge of actual reality.
The ultimate goal of yoga is to attain liberation from suffering and the endless cycle of
birth and death. Yoga and meditation are used together in order to achieve this
liberation and one who studies yoga is referred to as a yogi.
While at homestays in a village outside of Mae Rim, Thailand, I had the
oppertunity to meet a man named Ajarn Penom. Penom was the husband of our Thai
language teacher, Ajarn Petchara. Penom, though no longer, was ordained as a monk in
the school of Theravada Buddhism when he was just a small boy. He served as a
novice and then monk for ten years. One day instead of our regular language class, we were lucky
enough to
have Penom come into class and talk to us about Theravada Buddhism and his life as a
monk. That night we had the opportunity to visit the temple of his residency, one of the most
beautiful in Thailand, and participate in meditation, chanting and a walking ceremony
where we circled one of the temples

Case Study Of Macrolink Group
Abstract: As consumers level of consumption rises, more and more industrial corporations have turned
to investing in the entertainment sector due to the need for sustainable growth.
In late 2017, a simple headline caught our attention. According to news from Macrolink Group s
official website as well as numerous other channels, the company has decided to invest 22 million
RMB in Tencent Music Entertainment Group, with the deal being officially signed in September. Over
20 other companies, including BHG Long Hills Capital, CMBI, and BOCOM International also
participated in the investment.
While the 22 million figure isn t particularly surprising given the sheer size of both parties (Macrolink
and Tencent), but the motivation behind the investment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It holds various levels of shares in over 90 companies, 9 of which are publicly traded. The Group was
ranked #208 on the list of top 500 companies of China in 2017 with its gross annual revenue reaching
83.3 billion RMB, a 15.97% increase from the previous year.
Macrolink Real Estate Co., Ltd., the appropriately named real estate company under Macrolink, went
public in July of 2011 through a reverse takeover, aiming to integrate its core services with cultural
tourism. 5 years later after the company s IPO, the company changed its name from Macrolink Real
Estate to Macrolink Culturaltainment Development to more accurately reflect its change in direction.
The corporation s winery company, JLF Investment Co. Ltd. saw a timely name change as well, to
New Silkroad Culturaltainment Limited.
Of course, this change is more than meets the eye. The company s adjustment in its tourism business
model led to the largest percentage of growth in both its gross revenue and profit. According to an
annual report published in April last year, Macrolink Culturaltainment brought in an annual revenue of
7.5 billion RMB in 2016, an increase of 61.41%, and its growth in annual profit reached a staggering
70.35%, netting 524 million

Hiv Epidemiology
HIV Epidemiology
HIV Epidemiology
For the epidemiology paper I chose to write about HIV. HIV is growing concern in the community and
too many people are uneducated about the seriousness of this disease. HIV is terminal illness; it will
eventually consume your life at some point. There are treatment options out there but being compliant
with the medication regimen is crucial to the maintenance and management of this disease.
HIV also known as the Human Immunodeficiency Virus; with HIV the virus replicates and attacks our
immune system causing it to go haywire. With the suppression of our immune systems it puts people
with HIV at a bigger risk for infection and other common illnesses. People with HIV the common cold
can be very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we are caring for HIV patients in the community we as the nurse need to be able to identify the
mode of transmission of the disease. The agent would be what causes the infection of HIV. HIV is a
virus so therefore the virus itself would be the agent. A virus may have a spiny outside layer, called the
envelope. Viruses have a core of genetic material, but no way to reproduce it on their own. Viruses
infect cells and take over their reproductive machinery to reproduce (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention [CDC], 2012). The host would be the person who became infected with the disease. These
patients have come into contact with someone who was infected with disease already. This could have
been due to cross contamination of blood, sharing needles during drug use, vaginally delivery of a
baby, or it could have even been through a blood transfusion; which is very, very rare. Environmental
factors would include the surroundings or conditions outside of the host that cause or allow the disease
to be spread. This would be any household that participates in the use of illicit drugs such as heroin.
Anyone who is in this type of environment is at risk due to old needles laying around, actually
partaking in the use of the drugs, or sharing needles with other people. Also an environment that
would put someone at risk would be a hospital setting. It is very possible for nurses especially to
accidentally stick themselves

The Arguments Of Athanasius And Arius At The Council Of...
Critically evaluate the arguments of Athanasius and Arius at the Council of Nicaea
The Patristic Era saw various controversies arising over the nature of Jesus Christ, which consequently
lead to the establishment of the creed as an attempt to reject the heretical views held by proponents.
An example of a heretical advocate is Arius, who suggested Christ was inferior to God, but still above
other creatures (McGrath, 2001, p.358). However, early orthodox theologians disputed this idea due to
the soteriological complications that accompanied it (Young, 2010, p.55). The central advocator of this
dispute was Athanasius, who questioned how Arius belief allowed for salvation through Jesus Christ,
which is a key orthodox belief identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This heretical view is further fought against through Athanasius extensive focus on Jesus death and the
implications that this had on humanity as told by the Bible (Young, 2010, p.55); Romans (10:9)
explicitly states Jesus is the Lord and the only route to salvation. So it can be argued, if Jesus is not
God, as Arius suggests, then it is not possible for humanity to reach salvation, which results in
diminishment of the purpose of Christian faith. Thus, it is acceptable to assume that the Nicene Creed
s assertion of the homoousious relationship of God and Jesus, as a rejection of Arianism, was essential
to early Christian theology because it provided certainty for the establishment of the faith.
Although the consubstantial nature of Jesus and God was confirmed at Nicaea, it wasn t definitively
defined because Arians responded with another heretical view: Jesus and God were homoiousious.
The belief that God and Jesus were only similar in nature allowed for subordinationism to manifest,
which was a heresy that asserted God the Father was superior to Jesus and the Holy Spirit (Williams,
2001, p.133). So this belief accepts the Trinity but has misinterpreted the orthodox declaration of the
idea. Arius told of the unequal glories amongst each distinct being within the Trinity (Williams, 2001,
p.102). This was scorned by Athanasius who knew of the homoousious relationship through scripture
(Colossians 2:9), which is how God expresses

Alice Gilbert Monologue
A few minutes passed by until Alice was able to speak and let me lead he back to the bedroom. We sat
on the end of the bed until 6:30 am while Alice explained to me that it was Mrs. Gilbert on the phone,
a co worker at the Elementary School, and the wife of Mr. Gilbert the town s Sherriff. She told Alice
that her student Janie Augustine went missing on her way home from school that day. And that a few
hours before a camper found her dead in the Red furrow woods, 17 miles away from the Elementary
School. And when Alice asked Mrs. Gilbert how Janie died. Mrs. Gilbert choked on her words as she
said Janie was murder. She bled out after being hit with an ax in the stomach.
I asked more questions I swear, but she said she couldn t say anymore, that she shouldn t have told me
anything Alice cried. I tried my best to come up with something to say to her. I ve never been in a
situation like this. I just let her cry into her knees again. I walked over to the kitchen and brewed her
some tea to help her get back to sleep, but by the time I got back into the room she was already fast
asleep, tears still on her cheek. The dog was curled up in the bend of her knees. I set the tea on the
nightstand, wiped away her tear and got into bed myself. I last little bit has been so hectic, trying to

  • 2. Happiness In Silas Marner Happiness can be found by going down many avenues; some created through love and connections, and others through greed and petty implements used to fill voids of the soul. Throughout the book, Silas Marner goes down many of these avenues to create happiness within himself. He first gained the prized emotion in Lantern Yard through religion, but when he loses that through tragedy, he obsessively tries to obtain enough gold to fill the void. However, when Eppie comes into his life, Silas soon learns that love, community, and family connection is what brings true happiness to him. In Lantern Yard, Marner was a very active member in the church and community. When described as a brother of the church, he was said to be a young man of exemplary life and ardent faith (Eliot 6). The particular choice of adjectives used to describe his faith in the Lord supports in full how content Marner is in this life when he is involved in his religion. Use of the word ardent , meaning enthusiastic and passionate, to describe his faith are how those experiencing utter content are portrayed as. Another adjective used to create expression is exemplary , meaning serving as a perfect model. This proves the claim of Silas happiness because nobody would want to be like a man who is isolated and sorrowful. So, it is by passionate faith that Marner realizes happiness. When tragedy strikes, Marner is stripped of his faith and community. He resorts to greed in a desperate attempt to fill the void ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Bell Hooks And Frantz Fanon Both philosophers, bell hooks and Frantz Fanon, address the problem of equality. In Feminism is for Everybody, hooks defines feminism as a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression. Hooks begins by stating feminism is for everybody (2000) and that it is an attempt to end sexism though reform feminism. In Racism and Culture, Fanon investigates whether ending racism is due to cultural relativity. In the book by Gloria Anzaldua Borderlands/La Frontera, she describes the personal struggles she faced through her insecurities relative to the society that exists today. In agreement, Fanon believes racism can be eliminated once the idea of superiority is rejected amongst people. This paper investigates both views of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reformist feminism became their route to class mobility... while sexism did not end, they could maximize their freedom within the existing system (Hooks, 5). It is seen through reform feminists that women are trying take the role of men in terms of hierarchy by trying to move up in terms of class. For example, working in the Federal Bureau of Investigation is portrayed such that women are secretaries and men are the ones leading investigations out in the field especially on television. Broadcasting this ideology is partially to blame for the existence of sexism. Consequently, reform feminism is subjected towards gender equality seen as a classification. Fanon believes that there are three stages to racism and culture. One of these stages include people having no culture through the justification of slavery. Racism, as we have seen, is only one element of a vaster whole: that of the systematized oppression of a people (Fanon, 3). Slavery is a form of ownership where a person known as a slave is controlled and forced to work. This is a historical example of the oppressed that are taken advantage of and used due to the fact that they are labeled as property. Racism is something that can be eliminated once the notion that superiority exists amongst people is rejected. There are many similarities between Hooks and Fanon in terms of eliminating sexism and oppression in its entirety. Hooks and Fanon both agree that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of the strategy is to identify the cause of the problem that is currently meaning that Morgan can only produce around nine cars per week. Despite this the company has much strength in the way that it operates, for example the company has a background of being very traditional. For example the poor logistics and layout of the factory which means that the cars have to be manually moved around the factory from one stage to another. The works study will highlight the areas that need to be improved by the business, and how they can be improved, for example the car is predominantly made by hand, can be improved by the incorporation of tooling which is likely to make little difference to the nature and finished quality of the product. He was selected as the only African American Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff to lead the strongest military in the Desert Shield and Desert Storm War. His leadership was showcased as the Secretary of State advising President Bush. Colin Powell was viewed the The most trusted man in America (DeYoung, 2006) to American people. He was considered a visionary and ethical leader because of wise leadership from his positions at highest level of government for four presidential administrations. He has helped guide the nation through some of it most heart wrenching hours. Colin Powell is considered a visionary because he developed the Powell Doctrine by using idealized influence to persuade President Bush to use overwhelming force to essential win the war in 4 days. Also, he was an ethical leader by challenging the Republican Party on race against African Americans as he supported Barack Obama during the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns. Because of this support he fell into the ethical trap of the loyalty syndrome to Barack Obama or the Republican party. • 7. The Parallels Of Japanese Internees And American Pows The Parallels of Japanese Internees and American POWs War can be loud and visible or quiet and remote. It affects the individual and entire societies, the soldier, and the civilian. Both U.S. prisoners of war in Japan and Japanese American citizens in the United States during WWII undergo efforts to make them invisible. Laura Hillenbrand s Unbroken hero, Louie Zamperini, like so many other POWs, is imprisoned, beaten, and denied basic human rights in POW camps throughout Japan. Miné Okubo, a U.S. citizen by birth, is removed from society and interned in a protective custody camp for Japanese American citizens. She is one of the many Japanese Americans who were interned for the duration of the war. Louie Zamperini, as a POW in Japan, and Miné Okubo, as a Japanese American Internee both experience efforts to make them invisible through dehumanization and isolation in the camps of WWII, and both resist these efforts. From a very early age, Louie Zamperini was a visible young man. His charismatic/rebellious ways, and his athletic accomplishments continually put him in the spotlight, but years in Japanese POWs camps slowly eroded his visibility. He, like so many others in captivity, experienced efforts to make him invisible. During WWII, POWs were systematically stripped of their dignity in the camps of Japan, and as Hillenbrand writes, without dignity, identity is erased (189). Dehumanizing tactics by Japanese guards deny prisoners of their dignity and humanity. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Ancient Cannibalism Humans have always been drawn to knowing the grotesque, disgusting, and depraving truths of the world, but when it comes down to the question of whether a human has done any of those things, they always try to avoid the topic. Early cannibalism is one of the truths of the world that modern humans have yet to come to terms with and most argue that their ancestors could not have practiced this; they claimed that only early civilizations and early humans that were perverse practiced it. Contrary to widespread belief, cannibalism was not considered a taboo in early civilizations and was in fact a frequent practice among early humans because it was part of their tradition or was done out of necessity. It can be said that ancient cannibalism dates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, regarding the past, it can be said that cannibalism as a frequent practice amongst early humans was not a stretch because it was practiced by many early humans to have a good harvest, to celebrate victories, and to even mourn the dead. One such example of this ritual would be with the Khonds, an ancient Dravidian tribe from Bengal, who sacrificed and ate one of their own to ensure a ripe harvest. This victim... was first treated with great reverence, then strangled...His flesh was then distributed to the various tribal leaders (121). Another example of the cannibalistic tradition of early humans would be the Wari tribe, a cannibalistic tribe that has been around since the fifteenth century, who mourned by processing and eating their loved ones body parts. Essentially, when a Wari s loved one died, they would gather all their close relatives and then proceed to roast and then consume their dead relative. If it was a child that died, the body could be processed, roasted, and consumed the same or following day as the child s immediate family was already present (Travis Heinikoff, 168). The Wari practiced this ritual because they believed that it helped the dead cross over into the afterlife and also allow the family members to properly mourn their loved one as they were roasted. Both tribes practiced cannibalism because they genuinely felt that by doing this, they were helping out their tribe and believed that there was nothing wrong with it. In a way, it could be compared to how Catholics continuously attend church to receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ, and although the Catholics are not as quite as literal as early cannibals, they genuinely believe that receiving the body and blood of Christ will help them spiritually and sometimes even physically. These five pillars are families rigged to fail, credentialing versus education, science abandoned, and dumb downed taxes and self policing subverted. She goes into detail as to why each of these sections of our society is struggling and is destined for a dark age. However, for the purpose of this paper, I will focus on education and my agreement as to how educational institutions are focusing on credentialing its student instead of educating them. However, many students do not understand what is waiting for them after graduation. Students are encouraged to pick a subject to study that interest them; although this is important, students also need to look at the job opportunities available in that field of study. For example, many young students aspire to become teachers, the job definitely has some perks, but finding a full time job in teaching can be difficult. According to Maclean s 67 per cent of education graduates from Ontario s class of 2009 found themselves unemployed or underemployed in the following year (Dehaas 2011). When there are little to no job opportunities students begin to feel the pressure and retreat back to what they know, school. Graduate school seems great and all, but sometimes it is not the right track to take. Students accumulate more debt, become more specialized and expect higher pay because of their higher education. The Economist reports, In Canada 80% of postdocs earn $38,600 or less per year before tax the average salary of a construction worker (The Economist 2010). This essay will discuss the discourses that are prevalent in commercial and non commercial television about cultural differences and diversity, and how this can either promote or denounce the inclusiveness of communities or allowing alternative voices to be heard. When commercial television is discussing and prevailing such dominant discourses about ideas of marriage, terrorism, socio economic statuses, mental health, politics and other cultures, it has the ability to disempower difference through only explaining these issues from one view point of view or a singular representation. This constant widespread negative coverage of minorities or other cultures can misguide Australian attitudes and viewpoints, to further reaffirm certain prejudices or biases by only being exposed to the negative actions of a group (Jacobs Kershen 2011). This Symbolic violence can describe minorities in a way that leaves them voiceless, ignored and condemned through media and the views of larger society (Venzo Hess 2013). When ethnic minorities are shown in a prominent role on commercial television or a news segment, it is usually in relation to crime and disorder or from being a perceived social threat to the Australian culture or way of life (Phillips 2011). My entire life I have been blessed with the good company of the people of Kansas. That is why I chose to receive my education at Kansas State University, and is also one of the many reasons why I am ardent towards attending school at the University of Kansas. I feel very fortunate to have one of the top occupation therapy programs in the country within the borders of my home state. I have multiple family members that have received their doctorate from Kansas University and continue to support the university due to their overwhelming positive experience. Although the location of the campus is important to me, it is only a small factor as to why I am passionate towards attending this specific program. My interest in continuing my education at the University of Kansas is due to three main attributes. These reasons include; the range of skills provided, the values and ideals this program obtains, and the prestige and quality of education. The first attribute that sparks my interest is the range of skills this program provides that allows occupational therapists to work in a variety of settings. • 17. Essay On Law Enforcement Education Law Enforcement Education and Training in the 21st Century and its Relation to Police Professionalization There is a great debate over the question of whether American law enforcement has achieved the status of a profession. In order to answer this question, there is a need to define what a profession is and identify the requisite attributes that qualifies an occupation to be identified as a profession. Criminal justice administrators have been actively pursuing professionalization for their chosen vocation while police researchers have been making recommendations which require increasing levels of higher education and an expanded college curricula for law enforcement service (Carter, Sapp, Stephens, State of Police Education: Policy Direction for the 21st Century, 1989). However, it seems that part of the challenge of professionalization is the lack of general understanding of the concept. Professionalization occurs when an occupation ceases to be irregular in operation and transforms itself by ...the development of formal qualifications based upon education, apprenticeship, and examinations, the emergence of regulatory bodies with powers to admit and discipline members, and some degree of monopoly rights. (Bullock Trombley, 1999, p. 689). A substantive definition for profession has been elusive in the literature review; therefore, a profession can be constructively defined as a full time, remunerated, services oriented vocation governed by a code of ethics and based on ... Oliver Stone, who won the 1989 Best Director Oscar for the film, also wrote, and produced it. He tells the true story of Ron Kovic, an American kid from Massapequa, Long Island that fought in the Vietnam War, who is played by Tom Cruise. It also stars Kyra Segwick, Raymond J. Barry, William Dafoe, and Frank Whaley. This film accurately illustrates not only what went on for the soldiers fighting in the Vietnam War and the effects that the war had at home, but also the social attitudes throughout the country during the 1950s and other major movements during the time of the war, that like the anti war sentiment, were largely a response ... These beliefs were widespread largely because the government said that they were true, and people believed almost all of what the government said at this time. We had emerged as a bipolar superpower after World War II. The other major power in the world was the Soviet Union, which had a completely different form of government and type of economy from us: Communism. One of the main ideas behind Communism was that everyone should be the same, and no one should be ahead of anyone else in life. This was very attractive to many working class people throughout the planet that were tired of poverty and cruel governments. Therefore, Communism began to spread which scared Americans and especially the American government very much. A theory called the domino theory began to spread throughout American society that claimed that Communism would continue to spread across borders in an outward direction from the Russian center until it covered the entire planet; that is, unless it was stopped by an outside force (like the American military). This fear led to the McCarthy Era where something similar to a witch hunt for communists in America takes place. This compromise is hopefully long lasting and satisfying to both sides and brings with it a rest. The Compromise of 1850 sounds like exactly that, but there is more to this compromise. This compromise came when there was much dispute about the future of the western lands recently acquired from the Mexican government California, Utah, and New Mexico. The Southerners of America wanted the states entered into the union as slave states, while the Northerners wanted them entered as free states. When this issue became more heated and continued to escalate, The Great Compromiser, Mr. Henry Clay himself, came out of retirement to do his thing and create a compromise. He proposed that California would enter the union as a Slave State and Utah and New Mexico would enter as neutral, being neither a slave nor free state. Parts of both the North and the South hated and liked this plan. Some misanthropists in the South threatened to secede from the union and while the majority knew that to be rubbish at the time, it did eventually come true with the start of the Civil War. The North wanted to see slavery come to an end and were fighting tooth and nail to see that through. After months of debating and changes made to Clay s compromise it was eventually put into action. After the board of the Kenmore Midget Baseball League voted against allowing the chairwoman Sarah s husband to take over the league s concession stand (as it was a clear conflict of interest) Sarah left the organization abruptly and rather dramatically. While Sarah s departure was an initial blow to the league, over time it came to be seen as a great opportunity to rebuild the organization and this time build a more balanced, stronger organization. The corresponding rate constants were determined from the slope of the fit, and it was found that as we increase [SP] the rate is relatively constant. This compound itself has a different absorbance band relative to MC, which was found to be around 408 nm in acetone and 453 nm in cyclohexane. Because the reaction must follow this sequence MCH+→ MC → SP, the corresponding rate of decay must be slower. As shown in Table 1 and 2, the decay rate with the addition of TFA is significantly lower relative to just SP in the solution. However, increasing acid concentration slows down the decay rate because more of MC is being converted to MCH+. Ergo, it will have a longer process to convert all of the MCH+ back into SP. Again, comparing the rate of decay of MCH+ at different solvents, it was determined that the environment did not have a drastic effect on the conversion. In addition, the average of the rate of decay was calculated for the first four samples and was found to be 0.00630 s 1 and 0.0243 s 1 for acetone and cyclohexane, respectively, which gave an error of 26.0 % and 40.3 %. Before suffering occurs, Heaney says humans are different but one thing remains a common attribute: their flesh was sweet (5). Humans without suffering in their lives grow and develop into pleasant individuals. The author s imagery portrays the juicy sweetness of blackberries as a positive quality that humans can own. After humans pick blueberries, they change. The sweet flesh would turn sour (21). When suffering harvests humans, they also change. The deeper meaning of human suffering uncovers itself as our hands were peppered/ with thorn pricks, our palms sticky as Bluebeard s (15 16). After an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people who drink wine usually do not suffer and enjoy life. When a person s status burns down as a result of suffering, the once sweet blackberries develop into big dark blobs burned/ like a plate of eyes (14 15). The simile the author uses indicates the guilt the eyes inflict on the cause of human suffering. • 37. Comparing The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight How culture affects our views Today s culture changes how we behave and act. The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings are excellent examples of this. For example, in The Lone Ranger the narrator is stopped by the police as they said You re making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie). Like the narrator in The Lone Ranger both stores how someone s culture affects the way they act and think. Our culture changes how we behave and react to everyday events. I will start by going through each story giving and explaining examples and how they are related. The first short story I m going to talk about is The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. The first example of this is when the narrator is stopped by the police and they said You re making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie). Right after this the narrator is talking about how he is unable to fit into anywhere because of how the culture views native Americans. This is an excellent example of how the culture around the narrator has changed how he thinks about others within his culture. Another interesting event in The Lone Ranger is when ... He demands to have access to patient information from both locations at any time. He wants to use his personal laptop to access the EHR and resources for both offices. Solution 1 Set Dr. Brooks up with a network account under each active directory domain: have him log in to whichever one he needs access to at the time. Although he may be physically working from MO1, he will likely still need to access resources from MO2 and vice versa. This solution would involve creation of trust relationships between domains in the MO forest. The administrator will create a transitive trust between MO1 and MO2.The MO1 where Dr.Brooks sits would be the parent domain and the MO2 will be the child domain in the MO active directory forest. The MO2 will automatically share resources with MO1 domain by default with authenticated users in both domains. Dr. Brook will thus be able to access resources from both MO1 and MO2 medical offices. This solution set up eradicates the hardware dependence as Dr.Brooks can log in from a different laptop or desktop in the network. Depending on the access controls assigned on him by the trusting domain he can access folders, files and virtual containers. An authentication authority is responsible for the computer and user identity verification. • 42. Colonial Conflict With England Over the years historians have offered three broad explanations political, constitutional, and economic for the growth of the colonial conflict with England. Of these three explanations, which one do you think best fits the available evidence? Many issues between the colonies and England occurred because of political, constitutional, and economic reasons. Most of the issues occurred because of economic issues. These issues include the Navigation Acts, Sugar Act, and the Stamp Act. These economic issues best describes the growth of colonial conflict with England in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Navigation Acts started with prohibiting Dutch ships from sailing to the English colonies (3.4). Charles II adopted three more Navigation Acts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The English were able to tax the goods that came through their ports. England was also one of the only European countries that would have tobacco; so many people wanted it and bought it from their merchants. Many European countries didn t trade with the colonies because of the strict Navigation Acts. This meant that many goods from the colonies went straight to England and vice versa. The Sugar Act was enacted to stop the illegal sugar trade between the colonies and the French and Spanish West Indies. The act strengthened the enforcement on sugar. While lowering the tax of molasses, the market from sugar grown in the colonies was decreasing. The colonists were so outraged they encouraged smugglers to bring sugar into the colonies. This is one of the reasons that there was conflict between the colonies and England. The Stamp Act was enacted in 1765. The Stamp Act imposed a tax on licenses, wills, pamphlets, deeds, almanacs, newspapers, and more printed documents. This act affected most of the people in the colonies. People like merchants, lawyers, tavern owners, political leaders, and printers were obliged to buy stamps. Merchants used stamps for ships papers, lawyers for legal papers, tavern owners for their licenses, and printers for newspapers and other publications. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we are caring for HIV patients in the community we as the nurse need to be able to identify the mode of transmission of the disease. The agent would be what causes the infection of HIV. HIV is a virus so therefore the virus itself would be the agent. A virus may have a spiny outside layer, called the envelope. Viruses have a core of genetic material, but no way to reproduce it on their own. Viruses infect cells and take over their reproductive machinery to reproduce (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2012). The host would be the person who became infected with the disease. These patients have come into contact with someone who was infected with disease already. This could have been due to cross contamination of blood, sharing needles during drug use, vaginally delivery of a baby, or it could have even been through a blood transfusion; which is very, very rare. Environmental factors would include the surroundings or conditions outside of the host that cause or allow the disease to be spread. This would be any household that participates in the use of illicit drugs such as heroin. Anyone who is in this type of environment is at risk due to old needles laying around, actually partaking in the use of the drugs, or sharing needles with other people. • 46. The Arguments Of Athanasius And Arius At The Council Of... Critically evaluate the arguments of Athanasius and Arius at the Council of Nicaea The Patristic Era saw various controversies arising over the nature of Jesus Christ, which consequently lead to the establishment of the creed as an attempt to reject the heretical views held by proponents. An example of a heretical advocate is Arius, who suggested Christ was inferior to God, but still above other creatures (McGrath, 2001, p.358). However, early orthodox theologians disputed this idea due to the soteriological complications that accompanied it (Young, 2010, p.55). The central advocator of this dispute was Athanasius, who questioned how Arius belief allowed for salvation through Jesus Christ, which is a key orthodox belief identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This heretical view is further fought against through Athanasius extensive focus on Jesus death and the implications that this had on humanity as told by the Bible (Young, 2010, p.55); Romans (10:9) explicitly states Jesus is the Lord and the only route to salvation. So it can be argued, if Jesus is not God, as Arius suggests, then it is not possible for humanity to reach salvation, which results in diminishment of the purpose of Christian faith. Thus, it is acceptable to assume that the Nicene Creed s assertion of the homoousious relationship of God and Jesus, as a rejection of Arianism, was essential to early Christian theology because it provided certainty for the establishment of the faith. Although the consubstantial nature of Jesus and God was confirmed at Nicaea, it wasn t definitively defined because Arians responded with another heretical view: Jesus and God were homoiousious. The belief that God and Jesus were only similar in nature allowed for subordinationism to manifest, which was a heresy that asserted God the Father was superior to Jesus and the Holy Spirit (Williams, 2001, p.133). So this belief accepts the Trinity but has misinterpreted the orthodox declaration of the idea. Arius told of the unequal glories amongst each distinct being within the Trinity (Williams, 2001, p.102). This was scorned by Athanasius who knew of the homoousious relationship through scripture (Colossians 2:9), which is how God expresses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
