Hurricane Katrina has been noted as one of the costliest and deadliest natural
disasters in US history. This paper will exam the city of New Orleans and the
preparation, response, and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This catastrophic event

The city of New Orleans is the most populated city in state of Louisiana. Due to the
geographical location, the city was at a significant risk for flooding. New Orleans
was originally settled on the natural levees, along the Mississippi River. The Flood
Control Act of 1965, authorized the United States Army Corps of Engineers to design
and construct numerous flood control projects including the Lake Pontchartrain and
Vicinity, Louisiana Hurricane Protection Project in the New Orleans region of south
Louisiana ([PUBLIC LAW 89 298 OCT. 27, 19). Following the implementation of the
act, the US Army Corps of Engineers built floodwalls and man made levees to
provide security against flooding. In the subsequent aftermath of Katrina, studies
have shown that the levees were improperly built and flood water levels estimates
were inaccurate during the initial planning phases and development. As a result, when
Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August, 29 2005 the storm caused a breach in
the levees which resulted in 80% of the city flooding. Over 20 feet of water covered
certain parts of the city and New Orleans was declared a disaster area that required

The Fairfield Police department put my partner and I to the test by making us
figure out which handprint matched the way a syringe would be held. We used
our deductive reasoning skills to find out which handprint was correct. We realized
that there were actually two handprints, handprint G, and handprint F, that were
very similar to each other and both had seemed accurate. By using our skills we
determined that the correct handprint is actually handprint G because of all the
little details that made G a better choice than F. The correct handprint for the
syringe was indeed G . We came to this conclusion because G appeared to have ink
on all the right places. One place where we noticed ink, was on the pad of the
thumb. This image also shows the ink on the index finger, starting at the inner
bottom side of the distal phalanx to the top of the inner side of the middle phalanx.
The middle finger is identical to the index finger except for the fact that the ink
appears to be on the right side. When my partner and I held the syringe, the way we
held it was identical to the way the ink appears on G. Therefore handprint G is
correct because if you hold the syringe this way it will still work properly.... Show
