brought into light from the novels The Yellow Wall Paper and The Fall of the House of Usher.
The relationship of the main character s mental health to the architecture of the setting in both
novels shows a deterioration in character health. The Yellow Wallpaper novel is taken place in a
nursery and the wallpaper is described as irritating and provoking. In Fall of the House of Usher,
the novel is taken house where you feel a sense of insufferable gloom. The health of the
characters can be depicted from these areas and creates a scene of disorder and insanity. In the
novel, The Yellow Wall Paper, the narrator is introduced to the audience as someone who seems
normal. She has a husband and a child as well. The narrator begins writing her journal and
explaining to us that she has been taken into a summer vacation home wit her husband. She at
first describes the house to be an more expensive place and questions their ability to purchase the

What started the caning was Charles Sumner s speech on, Crime Against Kansas In his speech he
also insulted Andrew Butler by comparing prostitutes to slavery. The prostitute being Andrew
Butler s wife. many people told Sumner not to, but he did anyway. Since he did this Andrew
Butler s cousin goes to the Senate and beats Sumner with a cane. His cousin Preston Brooks beat
Sumner so severely, that he didn t come back to the senate for 3 more years. The northerners

Then in 1859, they got even more threatened by the raid on Harper s Ferry. John Brown led 18
men on a raid, they men were a mixed of white and African American. John Brown was targeting
an arsenal, which is a storage unit for weapons and ammunition. Brown also wanted to start a
rebellion, by giving weapons the slaves, so they would kill their owners with the weapons from
the arsenal. Local citizens and federal troops quickly stopped them, Brown himself was
convicted of treason and murder and was sentenced to be hung. An uproar in the North started,
