Issue: This issue is whether Moonlight Basin is guilty of negligence for not clearly
naming and marking a hazardous stretch that resulted from grading a cat track above
it on the ski slope.
Facts: This case was filed by Brian Kopeikin against Moonlight Basin alleging that
Moonlight Basin did not fulfill its duty of reasonable care. On the day of the
incident, conditions on the mountain were perfect. The skies were clear, there was
little to no wind, and the snow was powder. Mr. Kopeikin, a very experienced skier
(p.2), was skiing Upper Elkhorn when he came upon unmarked and unnatural
hazards. These hazards allegedly were the result of negligent acts by Moonlight. The
ski run, Upper Elkhorn, intersected an unmarked and unnamed cat track that was
lined with boulders. The cat track was designed in a way that did not allow
Kopeikin to see the hazardous boulder field ahead of him. The boulder field

As an entomology class, consisting of 6 students and a professor, we walked around
a rural campus for approximately 45 minutes in Laurinburg, North Carolina;
collecting termites (unsure of exact scientific name) from underneath decomposing
logs from multiple sites within an acre area. With these samples, and the efforts of
Jared Kay (student), who continued the search after class, we had a combined total
of 30 termites including worker and soldier castes to study.

the experiment in the science lab, located at St. Andrews University, Laurinburg. The
experiment consisted of a white sheet of paper, and three writing utensils : rollerball,
ball point, and a sharpie. In essence, we release one termite at a time onto the white
paper and draw lines with each of the pens listed above; to determine which line or

EcoRI, DNA ladder, 6x loading buffer (30%glycerol + 0.25% bromophenol blue),
parafilm, n butanol TE buffer, 95% and 70% ethanol, TE buffer (10mM Tris Cl, pH
7.5) and 1mM EDTA were purchased from Sigma Aldrich. Micropipettes, eppendorf
tubes, eppendorf master cycler gradient, Labline orbit shaker, So Low ultra low
freezer and AvantiTM J 301 centrifuge.
Methodology:
For the quantitation of DNA both PCR and plasmid samples (1ОјL) were placed on
the Nanodrop spectrophotometer separately and the absorbance was set to 260 nm
which was measured for A260/A280 ratio. This was followed by the digestion of
restriction enzyme. For this, both plasmid (1.6ОјL) and PCR (0.3ОјL) samples were
mixed with 10x NE buffer, EcoRI and water separately in an eppendorf tube which
was quick spin for 30 s at 1000g followed by incubation in Forma scientific water
jacketed incubator for 15 min at 37В°C. Before the

It is no secret that the United States is currently experiencing a shortage of nurses .
The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics ( 2009 ) estimated that
more than one million new and replacement nurses will be needed by 2018 to meet
the increased demands of the health care workforce (). The stressful conditions under
which nurses work, due in part to the nursing shortage, are among the risk factors that
contribute to nurses abuse of illicit drugs and alcohol. Nurses are unique in that they
work in an environment where they not only have access to controlled substances,
but also are exposed to critically ill patients, traumatic situations, death and dying, the
stress of which can increase the risk of substance abuse. (Epstein, Burns, Conlon,
2010). Unfortunately, it is the patient that suffers the most. Substance abuse
continues to be a serious health care concern with millions of American 18 and
older using illegal drugs. Substance abuse occurs across all generations, cultures,
and occupations, including nursing. About 1 in 10, or 10 15% of all nurses, may be
impaired or in recovery from alcohol or drug addiction(Thomas Siela, 2011). When a
nurse is impaired they will not be able to function at their normal capacity, and are
not able to provide quality patient care. They may not be able to think as quickly, and
have a delayed reaction time.
