Migraine headaches present with severe pain on one side of the head, often preceded by visual disturbances. Treatment involves intravenous medications like prochlorperazine or metoclopramide to abort the headache. If the headache is of recent onset, sumatriptan can be used. For persistent pain, narcotics may help, along with rest in a dark room. Patients should follow-up if headaches change in pattern or worsen. Migraine headaches typically resolve within hours with treatment.
