This document summarizes several methods and tools used in educational psychology: 1) Introspection involves looking within oneself to examine thoughts, feelings, and motives. 2) Observation examines overt behavior by observing a person in different situations. 3) Interviews collect data through question-and-answer encounters between an interviewer and interviewee. 4) Clinical or case studies closely examine the behavior problems of individuals facing challenges.

2. METHODS OF EDUCATIONAL
PSYCHOLOGY

3. This is the oldest method and it was developed by
structuralists. The term introspection is originated from the
two Latin words –intro and aspection. Intro means within or
inward and aspection means looking or observation.
Introspection means looking within oneself in order to
examine one’s own thoughts, feelings and motives.
INTROSPECTION

4. Observation means the examination of something, especially
for the purpose of collecting data. It refers to inspection of the
overt behavior of a person in appropriate situations.
OBSERVATION

5. INTERVIEW METHOD
An interview is a data collection encounter between
two or more people where question are asked by a
person ( interviewer) to obtain information from
another person (interviewee).

6. CLINICAL OR CASE STUDY
METHOD
The clinical method is used for studying the behavior
problems of a maladjusted or deviant individual (case). In
clinical psychology, the term case is used to indicate an
individual facing problems that could be solved only on
the basis of detailed study.

7. EXPERIMENTAL OR SCIENTIFIC METHOD
Experimental method is considered to be the
most scientific and objective method for
studying behavior.

8. DIFFERENTIAL OR SURVEY
METHOD
Differential method is based on individual differences .It is
sometimes called statistical method for the reason that
statistical techniques become the major devices for studying
individual differences.
