Digital mammography has largely replaced film mammography. Digital mammography provides higher resolution images and allows radiologists to adjust brightness and magnification. Standard views include craniocaudal and mediolateral oblique views of each breast. Digital mammography is more accurate than film for premenopausal women under 50 with dense breasts but film may be slightly better for women over 65 with fatty breasts.

A Novel and Efficient Lifting Scheme based Super Resolution Reconstruction fo...CSCJournals
Mammography is the most effective method for early detection of breast diseases. However, the typical diagnostic signs, such as masses and microcalcifications, are difficult to be detected because mammograms are low contrast and noisy images. We concentrate on a special case of super resolution reconstruction for early detection of cancer from low resolution mammogram images. Super resolution reconstruction is the process of combining several low resolution images into a single higher resolution image. This paper describes a novel approach for enhancing the resolution of mammographic images. We are proposing an efficient lifting wavelet based denoising with adaptive interpolation for super resolution reconstruction. Under this frame work, the digitized low resolution mammographic images are decomposed into many levels to obtain different frequency bands. We use Daubechies (D4) lifting schemes to decompose low resolution mammogram images into multilevel scale and wavelet coefficients. Then our proposed novel soft thresholding technique is used to remove the noisy coefficients, by fixing optimum threshold value. In order to obtain an image of higher resolution adaptive interpolation is applied. Our proposed lifting wavelet transform based restoration and adaptive interpolation preserves the edges as well as smoothens the image without introducing artifacts. The proposed algorithm avoids the application of iterative method, reduces the complexity of calculation and applies to large dimension low-resolution images. Experimental results show that the proposed approach has succeeded in obtaining a high-resolution mammogram image with a high PSNR, ISNR ratio and a good visual quality.

A Virtual Instrument to Detect Masses In Breast Cancer using CAD toolstheijes
Breast cancer is the second-most driving and normal explanation behind death in view of tumor among one in every ten women. It has become a major health problem in the world over the past 50 years, and it has increased in recent years. Early detection is an effective way to diagnose and manage breast cancer. Mammography is the best and most suitable imaging technique for treatment of cancer at the early stage. The problems in mammography images such as high brightness value, dense tissues, noise and inefficient contrast level make analysis of these images a hard task for physicians for mass identification. This paper presents a CAD tool which are combination of image processing techniques to remove noise and enhancement of mammography images for identification & classification of masses. Efficient methods includes wavelet transformation and adaptive histogram equalization techniques, in addition with fusion techniques are used. Algorithms for identification of signs are tested on five patients, the associated abnormalities are clearly identified. The images for experimentation are taken from radiopedia. Experimental results show that a detection rate of 94.44% or higher can be achieved using this method, hence improved accuracy in breast cancer lesion detection. The proposed system achieves 100% sensitivity and 2.56 false positive for every image
Role of Breast Tomosynthesis in the Morphological Analysis of Breast LesionsApollo Hospitals
1. To assess the role of Breast Tomosynthesis (by 3D Combined View) versus 2D Full
Field Digital Mammogram alone in the morphological analysis of breast lesions.
2. To evaluate the potential role of Tomosynthesis in BIRADS Categorisation and Final
Histopathology.
In May 2011 we migrated from an Analogue Mammogram with a dedicated Mammogram
CR system to a Full Field Digital System with 3D Tomosynthesis.
In India there is no official screening programme. All screening is opportunistic, self-
initiated and self-funded. Most Mammograms done at our hospital, a Corporate Tertiary
care Oncology facility, are performed as Diagnostic Mammograms followed by mandatory Breast Ultrasound and additional views, if necessary, on the same day obviating the need for recall.
Reducing the number of cases for additional views and breast ultrasound will help
in decreasing the patient's waiting time, making reporting more efficient, without
compromising on the accuracy. We used BIRADS categorisation as an evaluating tool
and compared the BIRADS categorisation with the final HPE.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Using info from the DMIST study and publicly available data, researchers evaluated the cost-effectiveness of digital mammography screening for breast cancer using digital technology in all women would cost more than $300 000 per quality-adjusted life-year (QALY) gained. Targeting digital mammography on the basis of age or age and breast density costs $26 500 to $84 500 more per QALY gained than film mammography. Density-targeted use of digital mammography in women age 65 years or older costs $97,000 to $257,000 more per QALY gained than film. Of interest, Medicare reimburses $50 more per exam for digital mammography
Hope the CAD will aid in detection of breast cancers at an earlier stage. However, this also results in a higher rate of recall and false positives... Researchers at UCDavis reviewed screening mammograms of 222,000 women and found that with the use of CAD, 32% more women were recalled for additional tests, and 20% more women had an additional biopsy. Many of the cancers identified by CAD were localized, in situ cancers that still have an uncertain mortality risk. Furthermore, everytime CAD is used, the patient incurs additional costs for their mammogram - $15 per person according to Dr. Conwell.
Conventional film mammography uses low energy X-rays that pass through the breast and are absorbed by the film which is then developed. With digital, X-rays are recorded on a digital detector instead of film, and then projected on monitor. Mammography is the last imaging modality to use digital technology; mammography requires high resolution and contrast to produce quality images and thus development of technology to produce digital mammography is very complex, expensive, and time consuming Improving the SNR allows for decreased background noise and “cleaner” image, allowing potential for better cancer detection and less background interference Instantaneous images allow radiologists to assess quality of the image, and can reposition, magnify certain areas of interest, etc while the patient is still in office.
Study conducted in 2003 and published in 2005 DMIST: retrospective study of 49,500 asymptomatic women that compared the accuracy of digital versus film mammography in population subgroups defined by combinations of age, menopausal status, and breast density by using either biopsy results or follow-up information as the reference standard digital mamm was significantly better than film in detecting breast cancer in pre- and perimenopausal women with dense breasts younger than 50 in other subgroups, there was no significant difference in diagnostic accuracy between digital and film mammography in women over 65 with fatty breasts, there was nonsignificant trend toward improved diagnostic accuracy with film over digital
