2. Lumbar Plexus
The lumbar plexus
originates from ventral
rami of L1–L4.
It provides motor and
sensory contributions to
the anterior and medial
compartment of the leg as
well as to the abdominal
wall and pelvic areas.
3. Iliohypogastric nerve (L1).
Provides a portion of the motor
innervation to the abdominal wall
muscles and sensory innervation
to the pubic region.
Ilioinguinal nerve (L1).
Provides a portion of the motor
innervation to the abdominal wall
muscles and sensory innervation
to the superior medial thigh and
pubic area.
The lumbar plexus and sacral plexus are united via the lumbosacral trunk, which is
comprised of a portion of L4 nerve root anterior rami, and all L5 anterior rami.
