The Crisis For Resource Scarcity
The word scarcity, by definition means to be in short supply . A scarcity occurs when the demand for a
product or good far outweighs the supply of that product or good. In my most humble, yet concerning
opinion, I believe resource scarcity, such as water, to be one of the largest and vastly growing
sustainability issues that we will face head on in the coming decade, and decades thereafter. My
summation is that globalization along with rapidly evolving technology, consumers are far too
consumed with living in the current moment with little to no regards for future impact. In this paper I
will discuss some intersections of economic, social and environmental factors that water scarcity
encompasses, and why it is crucial to address this crisis now and frontward into the next decade.

Philosophers have attempted to define human nature for centuries, each coming up with a radically
different idea of what makes us human. These determinists relate outside events or forces as the
reason behind our actions. Our cognitive abilities separate us from beasts, however we are highly

mankind over time with a high degree of influence on our minds.
1. Historical Determinism
Fredrick Hegel s philosophy initially defined historical determinism and strongly influenced Germany
and Karl Marx. Hegel is highly recognized for his ideas of Geist and human progression over
generations with raised consciousness (Twelve Theories). With this view, he saw that throughout
history humans had advanced mentally and culturally to reach full development. With his various
works, Hegel influenced many readers and lead to the division of historical determinists. Hegel s

Realism is considered the most leading school of thought in international relations, as realism is also

I chuckle under my breath at the absurdity of me still having stage fright after all this time. My heart
