My Out Of Class Speaker Critique Assignment
For my out of class speaker critique assignment, I chose to go and attend the public lecture on campus
by Mr. Jim Davis, the creator of the Garfield the Cat syndicated comics. The event took place in Sursa
Hall inside the Music Instruction Building, and it lasted an hour and half long from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
This lecture occurred on Wednesday, February 15th. In his speech, Mr. Davis talked about his youthful
years, the initial challenges he faced, the business strategies he used, and the wild adventure he
endured throughout his comical Garfield business adventures. Regarding his desired response from the
audience in his speech, Mr. Davis made it overtly clear that he wanted the audience to listen and learn
from his story. I was able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise, there seemed to be no significant or obvious distinction amongst members. The attitudinal
makeup of the audience was either neutral or positive, as Davis and his work are most known for
being lighthearted and joyful. Mr. Davis undoubtedly considered these elements when he planned his
lecture, as a large portion of it was centered around the nostalgic feeling the Garfield comics give to
the crowd (C3). Regarding the introduction used during the lecture, I felt that it was more than
effective in its explanation of Davis by showing what he is primarily known for, what the audience
was about to witness, and by creating a favorable atmosphere for the lecture. To gain the audience s
attention, a video demonstrating Mr. Davis s history and accomplishments was played before he began
his lecture. Overall, I thought that it was a moderately effective introduction because it reinforced the
interest of the audience, displayed the significance Davis has to the illustration business, and presented
his credibility as well known illustrator. For example, I thought it was interesting that the
administrator jokingly announced Davis as a man too important to be talking a public lecture. On the
other hand, however, I also thought that the introduction was somewhat ineffective in that it never
overviewed what was going to be talked about in the rest of the lecture (C4). Concerning the support
used in the speech, Mr. Davis relied heavily on qualitative

1950s Horror Films
Horror films in the 1950s were very different from those in modern times, as 1960 s Psycho is often
credited as the father of modern horror film. 50s horror films would often fit into the science fiction or
thriller genres today. The 50s were known as the Monster Movie decade , as films often used aliens
and monsters to reflect communism or fascism, fears reminiscent of the era (American Movie Classics
Company LLC, 2017). The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) was released in 3 D and used a
foam and latex suit to create one of film s most famous monsters Gill Man (see image 10) (American
Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). The suit was very realistic for its time and is often cited as a
landmark for visual effects. GOJIRA: FIND SFX STUFF ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), a black and white film with a low budget of $420,000 is
praised for effectively building suspense with no traditional monsters, no violence, no deaths, and
limited special effects (American Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). It tells the story of Dr. Miles
Bennell trying to divert the threat of aliens in the form of plant like pods (see image 11), which take
over a community by replicating and replacing humans with cold and emotionless versions (American
Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). Bennell is thought to represent McCarthy, who fought
communism through his interrogations of suspected communists (American Movie Classics Company
LLC, 2017). The pods brainwashing strategy may also be read as a criticism of the conformist attitude
of the 50s (American Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). The film ends with nobody believing
Bennell that the threat is real, and ends with him yelling to the camera you re next! (American Movie
Classics Company LLC, 2017). An epilogue was later ended where law enforcement listen to Bennell
and go to stop the invasion (American Movie Classics Company LLC,

The Importance Of Diversity At UWM
I love it,... and, It is one of the best public colleges are some comments that I hear from any student
who goes to the University of Wisconsin Madison. The academics, the community focus and the
emphasis on diversity at the University of Wisconsin Madison are a few of the reasons why I am
applying here.
The University of Wisconsin Madison is a college that will help fulfill my aspiration of being a nurse.
The professors, desiring their students to succeed, are teachers who inspire their students, and UWM
possesses nursing instructors who will do the same. A challenging course with doctorate professors
will teach beyond the classroom experience. Not to mention, UWM will provide advanced technology,
such as simulation labs, which will allow me to learn nursing skills to my fullest potential. In addition,
the variety of research opportunities will educate and help me decide what area I wish to specialize as
either as the nurse practitioner or doctor.
The amount of dedication to community service from this college also compelled me to apply to the
university, which is important to me as volunteerism is an integral part of my ... Show more content on

My philosophy for diversity is that unity and a variety of cultures are essential in the modern world,
and for the past two years, I have been a secretary in my school s Diversity Club. Through this
organization, we embraced the mission of educating people on different world cultures and celebrate
them. University of Wisconsin Madison s emphasis on diversity feels like a match for my personal
philosophy about diversity. The myriad of student organizations, focusing on diversity, allows me to
share my culture and learn from others. Organizations such as Multicultural Student Nurse
Organization and Indian Student Association will provide me with the opportunity to connect with
other students committed to embracing the differences which strengthen

Herbert Hoover Accomplishments
Herbert Hoover was known as the Great Humanitarian and the Great Engineer. Yet, he was blamed
almost entirely for the Great Depression. Herbert Hoover accomplished much in his life, but it was
definitely not an easy journey; he went through the ups and downs of the learning years that paved the
path leading to his presidency, and he ultimately faced his fears. Herbert Hoover was born in the rural
town of West Branch, Iowa on August 10, 1874, to Jesse and Hulda Hoover. Herbert was born in one
of the three rooms in the Hoover s home. Jesse compared Herbert to Ulysses S. Grant; he was very
hopeful for his son s future. Jesse Hoover was the owner of a blacksmith shop in their small, rural
town. Herbert, called Bert, had two siblings, an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After two years at the land settlement company, Hoover started taking night courses at a business
school. Hoover learned from a Quaker math teacher about Stanford University, and he had a great
desire to attend there. Herbert failed his first entrance exam, but Stanford allowed him another
opportunity to take the exam. He was the tender age of seventeen when he began his engineering
studies at Stanford. Stanford was not an inexpensive school; Herbert worked several entry level jobs
to afford to attend. (Chang, 18 20) Hoover was very involved in the university s student government.
He was also the treasurer of his junior class. (Fausold, 5) During his time at the university, Herbert the
met lovely Louise Henry, often called Lou. Herbert later described her as, A symbol of everything
wholesome in American life. (Chang, 41) Lou was the first woman to major in geology at Stanford.
(Chang, 20) After graduating with an A.B. degree, Herbert took a job with the mining engineer, Louis
Janin; Herbert was asked to work on projects in California, Colorado, and Nevada. A year later,
Herbert Hoover got a job with the mining firm of Bewick, Moreing, and Company of London. While
working with the firm, he was sent on a two year assignment in Australia working on gold mines.
During his time in Australia, Herbert was made a partner with this firm; he was only twenty seven.

How Do Tax Laws Affect Young Americans
It sounds morbid, but the truth is there are two things in life that are certain, Death and Tax. In fact,
many before us have died for the right to be heard on many subjects, especially taxation. The old
adage, Taxation without Representation is still prevalent in today s society, especially when dealing
with the young Americans who pay tax and have no voice. Many teens gain employment in high
school and pay tax, even if it is not a permanent job. Young Americans from zero to 18 years olds
contribute to the National Debt, yet have no say as to how much they are taxed
A number of laws affect Young Americans, yet they cannot stand up for their rights. Depending on the
state, children can be convicted and sentenced as adults and receive sentences of life or death as young
as 14 years old. Young Americans have no say in climate control, health care issues, and educational
concerns, all of which presently and forever will affect them. ... Show more content on

The answer is no one. In fact, politicians contend that it is not worth putting the effort into changing
the voting age since the youth grow up and then gain the ability to vote. Additionally, some have
challenged that young Americans have no understanding of the issues and cannot make an intelligent
decision. Yet how many adults understand or care about these issues and make a mature decision when
voting.
However, the youth can provide insight on many issues and concern, but they have no voice and no
representation. The Young Americans must stand up for themselves, just as the generations did before
us. Let us face it, taxation without representation is alive and well in the 21st Century. The only way to
be heard is to stand up for the right to have a

Biography Of Elvis Presley
About 70 years ago, Elvis Presley roamed the world. At age 13, his hair was dark brown like some
people s eyes, and his eyes were green like fresh grass being watered. He was regular height, 5 1 with
no tattoos, but is planning on getting them all over his arms. His favorite outfit was black pants with a
black or green t shirt or once in a while, a fancy long sleeve shirt. One really good thing about him is
that he sang really well. He worked at a little food truck that when you come up to it, it smells like
melted cheese and toasted bread. He also took singing lessons with his dad. He was always conceited
and would think he s the best, but he was very caring. Him and his dad had a quote they used to tell
each other, when things go wrong, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to this tiny country I never found out about and I assumed was close. For some reason, people had
white signs with a big black sharpie written on it for my dad saying MISSING. The smell of fresh
paint. So I knew he was here. Just about figured it was Victor, because he lives here according to other
people in this town. This country is 1,000,000 miles away from home. I started to adventure out in the
crowded forest, tropical jungle, and bright blue ocean to find him. I wouldn t let my best friend go.
Mom, you have to stay. My mom didn t want to, but she agreed. I got to this one place, till I got bored
and started singing. After I finished a song I wrote, I hear another of my songs that someone is
singing, and that someone s voice sounds familiar. Dad? I whisper Come to the right, 4 miles He reply

My Life Has Been A Rollercoaster, With Many Ups And Downs
My life has been a rollercoaster, with many ups and downs. I am thankful for the ups and downs. The
downs have made me strong and the ups have showed me that life is worth living. I was born in the
United states but raised in Nicaragua. I do not consider myself neither from here nor there. I consider
myself a fusion of both cultures. During the mid 80s, my parents were growing up under the
Sandinista communist regime. They lived in a country isolated by a civil war, subjected to extreme
polarization, with a deeply censored press, and diminished liberties. There were only two options,
accepting it or changing it. This is why my father got involved in politics at the young age of sixteen.

victorious, his ideals and everything he had fought for seemed in vain. The communist regime that had

1990, independent observers, foreign and local, were refused accreditation to monitor the election. Mr

election my mom took us out of school early. She soon explained, that they have called our house and
said they were coming to kill us. We went into hiding at my great aunts house. At the end of the day,
they were only empty threats, but the psychological damage was done. According to the electoral
council s provisional results, the Sandinistas duly won 94 of the 146 mayorships at stake. They stole

My Mistress Eyes Figurative Language Essay
Wiry hair, bad breath, pale face these don t seem like the words you would use towards someone you
love. Shakespeare uses these terms to describe his romantic partner in the poem My Mistress Eyes. At
first glance, the reader could mistake this for a love poem. In reality, this poem illustrates how
someone could find fault in the one they think they love. As a result of Shakespeare s romantic
preferences and that he wrote many poems about love, My Mistress Eyes seems to be about love
between a man and a woman, but the speaker in the poem critiques his mistress through figurative
language, rhythm and rhyme, and a romantic mood.
In this specific poem Shakespeare uses figurative language to make it seem like a love poem but
makes you read it twice to really understand what he is actually saying about his significant other. One
of the main forms of figurative language in this poem is shown in metaphors. These are important to
the poem to make the comparison of her features to other objects. If hairs be wires, black wires grow
on her head. (Ln 4) Her hair is thick, rough and messy as if they were actually wires, not nice and
smooth like you would want hair to be.
This poem is also filled with similes. My ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mood is brought to the surface by the choice of words used within the text. In the poem he uses
words like love, rose, goddess, and heaven that support the loving mood. He then uses words like
reeks and dun to contradict the mood he sets up beforehand. Another example of contradicting the
mood would be, I love to hear her speak, yet well I know/ That music hath a far more pleasing sound.
(Lns 9 10) He likes to hear her voice yet he knows that music is more pleasing. In his writing he
makes us imagine a realistic woman not a model or a dream woman as some would say. This says a lot
about the speaker by bringing to light the real meaning of his love for

When Inanna is at the gates of the underworld, she is asked why she has come. She says she wants to

The Loss Of Desire In A Streetcar Named Desire, By...
Many people would say that Blanche is innocent and pure; however, through her lies and difficult
experiences, it is proven that the way Blanche portrays herself is pure act. The play A Streetcar Named
Desire by Tennessee Williams portrays Blanches dramatic shift in beliefs, which through her
encounters, figuratively and literally destroys her. Blanche, originally, grew up as an innocent and
honest young girl, but her hardships and tough journey from innocence to insanity encouraged this to
change her and cause her to become crazed. Blanches own actions are what lead her to her tragic
downfall by the end of the story, but many may consider Blanche a victim . From the beginning of the
play, Blanche considers herself to be innocent, but through many conflicts she begins to suffer and
regress mentally and physically. Experiences such as loss, desire, and violence all lead Blanche to
insanity, which ultimately annihilates her. Early on in the play, Blanche Dubois was a wealthy,
innocent and beautiful young woman. After experiencing the hardship of loss in particular, these traits
slowly but surely went away. The tragic loss of Blanches husband, Allan Grey, and her childhood
home in Belle Reve is what caused a turn of events in Blanches innocent life. Blanche Dubois has
never been able to relieve herself from the guilt she feels due to the loss of her husband. Blanche is
ultimately responsible for her husbands suicide, after her insensitive remarks about him

Li Jen amp; Lockwood (2006) suggest that listening and recognizing of employees preferences and

element of multi options at the disposal, promotes a successful career path. The discussed essentials
were mainly autonomy, independence, and a healthy balance between life and work. In addition,
HayGroup (2001, as cited in Bharwani amp; Butt, 2012) state that tangible rewards largely contribute
towards the employee engagement. If the employer is able to offer recognition in terms of salary or
bonuses, people are more likely to be attracted to stay. It is further suggested that leadership and the
way in which it is presented to the employee, plays an important role in maintaining the employee s

A Experiment On Breaching Experiment
Breaching Experiment
The first norm I violated was sitting with my own clique during lunch. This is more than common in
high schools and even middle schools. In regards to social control, this norm creates a spot in society
for an individual, giving them a sense of belonging. This sense of belonging leads to self assigned
seats and allows people with similar interests or ideals to be better connected. To violate this norm I
sat with people who did not know who I am without asking prior to sitting down.
There are a lot of possible reactions that could have been a result of violating the norm. Before I began

The most important part was the interaction between the both of them. The second boy tried to get the

stuck out the most was when Boy #2 told Boy #1 to just be himself. It implied that he was actually

Technology In Modern Society
Did you know that the average person in this day and age spends nearly 3.9 years of their entire life
using some sort of electronical device? In today s modernized society, we are greatly influenced by the
uses of what technology has to offer. Not only does it play a key role in most of our lives, but it has
revolutionized the way we actually live. Simply look around you and the chances are you will be
faced with a wide array of different electronic technologies that have taken over the way we live. The
use of modernized technology is something rather new, but it is here to stay for years to come. This
being said, in today s society, we are simply not mentally capable of understanding the true evils of
what the use of technology has in storage for us.
Technology has drastically changed throughout the years. From beginning with simple tools, to the
current creation of mega powered modernized computers capable of endless possibilities and the list
goes on. Whether or not one believes in all this technology is hard to say. But one thing is certain,
technology has and will continue to control our lives for hundreds upon hundreds of years to come
unless we can make a change. But the odds are,we will never change. The problem with technology is
that it makes life so much easier. From contacting someone across the world in a matter of minutes

become a reality. Being only 14 years old, I couldn t quite grasp the idea that my best friend, my other
brother, and my big cousin has just left all of us forever. For the next 5 years of my life, I applied my
mothers saying, you never know when your last day on Earth will be, make the best out of everyday to
everything I did/do. Travis would have never known his last day on Earth would be May 21st, 2012,
only 19 years old. Life can be taken away from us in split second; so why don t we live each day like
its our last? Why do people take love and life for granted? Sadly, it takes tragedy to make people
realize that tomorrow is not granted.
I was six years old when Travis moved out of our house. Thinking he was my brother until then, I was
surprised when my mom said, Tell your cousin bye, Brookie. . Since the day he moved out, he
continued to be my very best friend. Calling him every night, upset about family issues, school work,
the fight I had with my friend that day, he was there for me every single night getting me through it
all; then as soon as my life got much more hard,

John Winthrop s Vision Of A Prosperous Christian...
The presence of religion is ingrained into the history of the United States of America. Serving as a
haven for disgruntled religious rebels from the Old World, the colonies became embroiled into the
question of Christian identity. John Winthrop envisioned that a Christian utopia would arise in the
New World, convinced it would become reality as long as the inhabitants practiced Christianity in its
proper form. Despite these high aspirations, future believers saw Winthrop s vision fall short. Cotton
Mather believes that the Christian community fell victim to a sinful environment. Alternatively,
preacher Jonathan Edwards believes that the self hinders a meaningful relationship with Christ. All
men of great faith, they believed that indulgence in sin would bring about ruin to their communities,
and issued public warnings that advised fellow believers on how to save their souls, and by extension,
their communities. Winthrop s vision of a prosperous Christian community was defined by several key
characteristics, given by Winthrop himself. Winthrop states ...so this great King will have many
stewards, counting Himself more honored in dispensing His gifts to man by man, than if He did it by
His own immediate hands (166). Winthrop believes that it is the duty of the community to directly
practice Christian doctrine and values. It is through this direct action that God will bring about
prosperity to the population. Winthrop emphasizes in particular the need to be charitable,

The Food Policy Of The Parent Handbook For The School...
I think most of us remember the annual school bake sale. Our mothers would whip up the most
delicious cupcakes (using grandma s secret recipe.) A fun time to enjoy tasty treats and maybe make a
little money for the school while you were at it. Homemade goodies are just better than store bought
ones and I think everyone can agree. Food made with love just has that something special that makes
you crave it even years after the sweet taste has long since faded away. Times were simpler then.
I grew up imagining all the fun treats I would whip up for my own kiddos when they reached school
age. I can make a mean batch of cookies. But all the dreams I had came spiraling down when my
oldest started kindergarten and I read the food policy in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Can you tell that this is the ingredient list for plain o vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting?
Because I sure can t. Compare it to the ingredients for REAL vanilla cupcakes with buttercream
frosting:
Cupcakes: Butter, Sugar, Eggs, Vanilla Extract, Self Rising Flour, Milk.
Buttercream Icing: Butter, Powdered Sugar, Vanilla Extract, Milk.
That s 7 different ingredients versus... honestly? I don t even feel like counting that mess. Which
would you rather eat? I think the choice is clear.
Now I don t want to sound like I don t care about people with food allergies because I do care.
Individuals with food allergies without a doubt deserve respect and consideration, no parent or child
should be afraid of going to school because of their food sensitivities. But my basic common sense has
been gnawing at the back of my mind on this subject. Did people just not care about the children when
I was growing up? Did people just not have food allergies then? Surely it couldn t be those things. No,
it has to be public awareness to food allergies, plain and simple. And the school has every right to
have some sort of rules regarding this subject, after all the student s safety is of utmost importance, but
in their hastiness to assuage the concerns of parents everywhere they threw out a blanket solution that
quite frankly is unnecessary and extreme.
Now I know there is a

Evaluation Of A Correlational Study Design Essay
The present study contains a correlational study design as well as a between subject design. A
correlational study design will allow the researchers to adequately answer the first research question.
The correlational study design allows the researchers to identify and interpret any correlational trends
regarding mental health effects and the success of transitioning amongst the participants. The
dependent variable of the first research question includes the success of transitioning (employment,
education, residential status, and communication after high school) and mental health
(depression/anxiety, sleep, obesity, and physical activity). There is no independent variable in the first
research question due to the correlational design. A between subject design will allow the researchers
to effectively answer the second research question. This type of design matches participants based on
a related variable; groups with or without employment to further examine any differences that may
exist between the two groups. The dependent variable of the second research question is the level of
mental health. The independent variable of this study is the two groups that the researchers are
exploring: employment group vs. non employment group. Participants The present study will include
a target goal of 100 individuals with DS between the ages of 17 to 40 years old, and their parent or
primary caregiver. The participants will be recruited through DS Connect, a secure platform for

Sickle Disease in Pregnancy
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a destructive abnormality in red blood cells that results in circulatory
impairment. Sickle cell disease can cause pain, infection, organ damage and strokes. SCD is inherited
through the infants parental genes (James, 2014). For instance, if an infant inherits the gene from one
parent that infant will automatically have the sickle cell trait. As a result, the infant will be a carrier of
the disease but won t actually have the SCD. It is very rare for a carrier to have any symptoms.
Women who have SCD are considered high risk if they become pregnant. SCD poses complication for

addition to that, a prophylactic transfusion can take place to help increase hemoglobin levels. It is
important that both the mother and child are observed throughout the pregnancy for the simple fact
that many of these pregnancies result in a caseation delivery (James 2014). In some cases, the use of
propranolol and LMWH are used in SCD mothers in hopes to decrease the intensity of SCD effects
such as pain and organ problems in both parent and child ( Yawn 2014). Opioid is also used as pain

Should The Nobel Peace Prize Be Abolished
The Nobel Peace Prize is an award Alfred Nobel made for people who try to make the world better.
Each year a person who tried to make it less polluted or tried to take away one of the many problems.
In 2007, Al Gore was given the prize. The most significant effect is climate change and global
warming of which the people have created.
This is true because as the months come and go, it is getting harder and harder to ignore the fact that
the world is in danger. In the last few months, it has been harder and harder to misinterpret the signs
that our world is spinning out of kilter (Nobel Speech p. 15) This is true because with more and more
pollution in the tiny shell of the atmosphere, it is getting harder to ignore that the Earth as many know
it is getting changed in a bad way. This links to the claim because the world spinning out of kilter is an
effect of climate change and global warming.

species, are confronting a planetary emergency a threat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No witchcraft, no enemy action had silenced the rebirth of new life in this stricken world. The people
had done it themselves. (Silent Spring p. 8) This is true because the only reason why people would say
that the pollution is worse, is because you can see how big it is, but climate change is something you
cannot see that still is a humongous challenge. This is false for many more reasons, but since you can
see it people would think it is a bigger problem, when really the climate change is.
Many would say that climate change is the biggest problem which is true, because people have been
ignoring the problem showing how it gets worse over time.In my point of view, if people car pulled,

Compare And Contrast The Expansion Of The Late...
Before the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, we see the United States claiming and
expanding beyond their original borders that are even today still claimed as theirs. Even though this
expansionism had been against the Farewell Address of George Washington, it had led to established
borders we have today in the United States and added to much prosperity eventually earned in the
lands. After the Spanish American War, the United States had been growing in their amount of power
and control to the point where they were considered to be a world power. They had been conquering
more and more land and territories during the Progressive Era than ever before, this had been
considered to be a continuation of earlier expansionism of the American people and states. Some of
this expansion had been due to the help of allies, treaties, land purchases, and war. In fact, the way in
which these lands were gained had been a departure in how the expansionism of the United States
played out in both the past and present periods.
A way the late nineteenth and early twentieth century s expansion compares to the past expansionism
is by the way they go against the orders of George Washington s Farewell Address of 1796. The

The Film The Others ( 2001 ) By Alejandro Amenabar
The film The Others (2001) by Alejandro Amenábar is a ghost story based around a family that
believes they are being haunted by spirits in their home but come to realize they have already died and
are haunting the new family that moved to the house. The title of the film refers to servants that
abandoned the house and is used constantly throughout the film to reference the intruders and other
spirits the original family believe are residing there. The main lesson to be learned from the film is
that things are never as they appear which is proven when we find out that the mother, Grace, killed
her own children and is a ghost along with her children. Since Grace is a ghost attempting to live in a
world where her children are alive, she is living in the past which we find out leads to her breakdown
when she finds out she is already dead. This theme of living in the past can also be found in Our
Town, which is another ghost story.
Our Town (1938) by Thornton Wilder is a play centered around the American lifestyle in 1901 that
follows two people as they grow up together, get married and eventually pass away. Each of the three
acts showcase a different period in Emily s and George s life until Emily dies during childbirth at the
beginning of the third act. Then the play shifts to Emily s life as a ghost as she reflects back on life
and learns that you cannot repeat the past. This play, like The Others, features invisible people but
they do not appear to be a threat as they were in

Ipsilateral Knee Injury Essay
1.1 Background
Concomitant knee injuries and knee pain associated with lower limb fractures often stay undetected,
or are inadequately addressed in fracture treatment plans, which then attributes to poor treatment
outcomes. [1,2,3] The treatment of choice for tibial shaft fractures is intramedullary (IM) nailing.[4]
After placing an IM nail during surgery, the ROM of the ipsilateral knee joint can be compromised
due to pain, undetected ligamental, meniscal injuries, or the positioning of the IM tibial nail itself.
[2,5,6,7] Although knee pain has been announced the most frequent complication of IM nailing, often
times these instabilities are overlooked during emergency surgical care and remain unaddressed in
post surgical management. [3,8] Long term follow up studies on anterior knee pain described
incidental rates between 10 and 83 percent among patients. [1,5,9,10] It has also been stated that the
high incidence of knee pain after IM nailing is of multifactorial origin.[1,8,11] ... Show more content

These mechanisms can lead to ligamentous injuries in the ipsilateral knee, such as impairment to the
cruciate ligaments or the lateral and medial collateral ligament. These injuries are very common in
cases of open and closed lower limp fractures. [2,3,6,9] Furthermore, the presence of a nail and/or its
protrusion thru the tibial plateau has been recognized as a significant cause of anterior knee pain.
[10,11,12]
We are investigating, whether concomitant ligamental knee injuries generally stay undetected upon
admission, or develop through surgical intervention and treatment plans. For that reason, we try to
correlate ligamentous integrity, range of motion and IM nail size to possible knee injuries and

The Original Position and the Veil of Ignorance
Political philosopher John Rawls believed that in order for society to function properly, there needs to
be a social contract, which defines justice as fairness . Rawls believed that the social contract be
created from an original position in which everyone decides on the rules for society behind a veil of
ignorance. In this essay, it will be argued that the veil of ignorance is an important feature of the
original position. First, the essay will describe what the veil of ignorance is. Secondly, it will look at
what Rawls means by the original position. Thirdly, it will look at why the veil of ignorance is an
important feature of the original position. Finally, the essay will present a criticism to the veil of
ignorance and the original ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall, the goal of the original position is to find out a fair and equal way to achieve the principles of
justice.
Why is The Veil of Ignorance an Important Feature of The Original Position? The main goal of the
original position is to set up a impartial procedure so that any principle agreed to will be fair and just
(Rawls, 1971). In order to create principles that are fair and just, people must nullify the effects of
specific contingencies which put men at odds and tempt them to exploit social and natural
circumstances to their own advantage. (Rawls, 1971, 136) In order to do this effectively, Rawls argues
that the parties involved have to be situated behind a veil of ignorance (Rawls, 1971). Without being
behind the veil of ignorance, and if a knowledge of particulars is allowed, then the outcome is biased
by arbitrary contingencies. (Rawls, 1971, 141) Therefore, the restrictions on the particular knowledge
in the original position are of fundamental importance (Rawls, 1971). Without the original position,
the parties involved would not be able to work out any definite principles of justice (Rawls, 1971).
The society who does not enact a social contract from the original position would then have to be
content with a vague understanding of justice and therefore have very little substance to the agreement
itself (Rawls, 1971). The veil of ignorance makes it possible to have a unanimous choice of a
particular conception of justice (Rawls,

Elevated NLR, is a strong predictor of stable coronary artery disease (CAD), its development,
progression and mortality.52,53,54,55 The predictive superiority of NLR may be due to the fact that
NLR is a ratio integrating the deleterious effects of Ns, which are responsible for innate immunity and
lymphopenia, which is a marker of poor general condition.56 Coronary artery anatomy: Left Main
Coronary Artery The left main coronary artery (LMCA) arises from the left aortic coronary sinus
ranging in diameter from 3 to 6 mm and up to 10 to 15 mm length. It courses behind the right
ventricular outflow tract and usually bifurcates into the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and left
circumflex (LCx) branches. Rarely, the LMCA artery is absent, and the LAD and LCx arteries arises
from separate ostia. In some patients, the LMCA trifurcates into the LAD, LCx and the ramus
intermedius which arises between the LAD and the LCx arteries. Left Anterior Descending Artery The
left anterior descending (LAD) artery passes along the surface of interventricular groove anteriorly
toward the cardiac apex. It gives several septal perforators and diagonal branches. Most patients have
one to three diagonal branches. In most patients the LAD rounds along the left ventricular apex and
ends at the diaphragmatic surface of the left ventricle.

Process Essay On Longboarding
Longboards are the big brother of standard sized skateboards. They are longer, wider, have fatter
wheels and a longer axle. Each of these differences collectively, makes boarding tricks a little easier,
especially for beginner skateboard enthusiasts. Here are two great tricks you can learn to help improve
your longboarding skills. No Comply The most basic trick in skateboarding is easier to master using a
longboard. It s called the no comply and can be perfected with practice following these steps.
Beginners should initially attempt this trick in a flat area with ample room for mistakes. Both of these
tricks begin by cruising along at a controlled speed, pushing off as needed with your back foot. The
trick starts with your back foot on the tail of the board, with the toe of your front foot in the middle,
again rolling forward. Your front foot should be tilted at a 45° angle. You will raise your front foot off
the board, applying pressure with your back foot while twisting inward just slightly at your back
ankle. This will flip the front of the board up in the air while your front foot lands on the ground. ...

Your front leg is your pivot leg. When you put pressure on the back of the longboard it needs to flip
exactly 180° around so that the back is now facing forward. Sounds easy right? For beginners, it is a
good idea to stand stationary and develop the flip before blending all the steps together. Timing is
critical when performing the no comply trick. Once the rotation is three quarters complete, just before
the front wheels return the ground, your lead leg is repositioned back in the middle of the board. Your
balance will switch to this front leg and with one big push off the ground from your back foot; you ll
be cruising along again. Ghost Ride Kick

  • 2. My Out Of Class Speaker Critique Assignment For my out of class speaker critique assignment, I chose to go and attend the public lecture on campus by Mr. Jim Davis, the creator of the Garfield the Cat syndicated comics. The event took place in Sursa Hall inside the Music Instruction Building, and it lasted an hour and half long from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. This lecture occurred on Wednesday, February 15th. In his speech, Mr. Davis talked about his youthful years, the initial challenges he faced, the business strategies he used, and the wild adventure he endured throughout his comical Garfield business adventures. Regarding his desired response from the audience in his speech, Mr. Davis made it overtly clear that he wanted the audience to listen and learn from his story. I was able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Otherwise, there seemed to be no significant or obvious distinction amongst members. The attitudinal makeup of the audience was either neutral or positive, as Davis and his work are most known for being lighthearted and joyful. Mr. Davis undoubtedly considered these elements when he planned his lecture, as a large portion of it was centered around the nostalgic feeling the Garfield comics give to the crowd (C3). Regarding the introduction used during the lecture, I felt that it was more than effective in its explanation of Davis by showing what he is primarily known for, what the audience was about to witness, and by creating a favorable atmosphere for the lecture. To gain the audience s attention, a video demonstrating Mr. Davis s history and accomplishments was played before he began his lecture. Overall, I thought that it was a moderately effective introduction because it reinforced the interest of the audience, displayed the significance Davis has to the illustration business, and presented his credibility as well known illustrator. For example, I thought it was interesting that the administrator jokingly announced Davis as a man too important to be talking a public lecture. On the other hand, however, I also thought that the introduction was somewhat ineffective in that it never overviewed what was going to be talked about in the rest of the lecture (C4). Concerning the support used in the speech, Mr. Davis relied heavily on qualitative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. 1950s Horror Films Horror films in the 1950s were very different from those in modern times, as 1960 s Psycho is often credited as the father of modern horror film. 50s horror films would often fit into the science fiction or thriller genres today. The 50s were known as the Monster Movie decade , as films often used aliens and monsters to reflect communism or fascism, fears reminiscent of the era (American Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) was released in 3 D and used a foam and latex suit to create one of film s most famous monsters Gill Man (see image 10) (American Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). The suit was very realistic for its time and is often cited as a landmark for visual effects. GOJIRA: FIND SFX STUFF ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), a black and white film with a low budget of $420,000 is praised for effectively building suspense with no traditional monsters, no violence, no deaths, and limited special effects (American Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). It tells the story of Dr. Miles Bennell trying to divert the threat of aliens in the form of plant like pods (see image 11), which take over a community by replicating and replacing humans with cold and emotionless versions (American Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). Bennell is thought to represent McCarthy, who fought communism through his interrogations of suspected communists (American Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). The pods brainwashing strategy may also be read as a criticism of the conformist attitude of the 50s (American Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). The film ends with nobody believing Bennell that the threat is real, and ends with him yelling to the camera you re next! (American Movie Classics Company LLC, 2017). An epilogue was later ended where law enforcement listen to Bennell and go to stop the invasion (American Movie Classics Company LLC, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Diversity At UWM I love it,... and, It is one of the best public colleges are some comments that I hear from any student who goes to the University of Wisconsin Madison. The academics, the community focus and the emphasis on diversity at the University of Wisconsin Madison are a few of the reasons why I am applying here. The University of Wisconsin Madison is a college that will help fulfill my aspiration of being a nurse. The professors, desiring their students to succeed, are teachers who inspire their students, and UWM possesses nursing instructors who will do the same. A challenging course with doctorate professors will teach beyond the classroom experience. Not to mention, UWM will provide advanced technology, such as simulation labs, which will allow me to learn nursing skills to my fullest potential. In addition, the variety of research opportunities will educate and help me decide what area I wish to specialize as either as the nurse practitioner or doctor. The amount of dedication to community service from this college also compelled me to apply to the university, which is important to me as volunteerism is an integral part of my ... University of Wisconsin Madison s emphasis on diversity feels like a match for my personal philosophy about diversity. • 5. Herbert Hoover Accomplishments Herbert Hoover was known as the Great Humanitarian and the Great Engineer. Yet, he was blamed almost entirely for the Great Depression. Herbert Hoover accomplished much in his life, but it was definitely not an easy journey; he went through the ups and downs of the learning years that paved the path leading to his presidency, and he ultimately faced his fears. Herbert Hoover was born in the rural town of West Branch, Iowa on August 10, 1874, to Jesse and Hulda Hoover. Herbert was born in one of the three rooms in the Hoover s home. Jesse compared Herbert to Ulysses S. Grant; he was very hopeful for his son s future. Jesse Hoover was the owner of a blacksmith shop in their small, rural town. Herbert, called Bert, had two siblings, an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After two years at the land settlement company, Hoover started taking night courses at a business school. Hoover learned from a Quaker math teacher about Stanford University, and he had a great desire to attend there. Herbert failed his first entrance exam, but Stanford allowed him another opportunity to take the exam. He was the tender age of seventeen when he began his engineering studies at Stanford. Stanford was not an inexpensive school; Herbert worked several entry level jobs to afford to attend. (Chang, 18 20) Hoover was very involved in the university s student government. He was also the treasurer of his junior class. (Fausold, 5) During his time at the university, Herbert the met lovely Louise Henry, often called Lou. Herbert later described her as, A symbol of everything wholesome in American life. (Chang, 41) Lou was the first woman to major in geology at Stanford. (Chang, 20) After graduating with an A.B. degree, Herbert took a job with the mining engineer, Louis Janin; Herbert was asked to work on projects in California, Colorado, and Nevada. A year later, Herbert Hoover got a job with the mining firm of Bewick, Moreing, and Company of London. • 6. How Do Tax Laws Affect Young Americans It sounds morbid, but the truth is there are two things in life that are certain, Death and Tax. In fact, many before us have died for the right to be heard on many subjects, especially taxation. The old adage, Taxation without Representation is still prevalent in today s society, especially when dealing with the young Americans who pay tax and have no voice. Many teens gain employment in high school and pay tax, even if it is not a permanent job. Young Americans from zero to 18 years olds contribute to the National Debt, yet have no say as to how much they are taxed A number of laws affect Young Americans, yet they cannot stand up for their rights. The answer is no one. In fact, politicians contend that it is not worth putting the effort into changing the voting age since the youth grow up and then gain the ability to vote. Additionally, some have challenged that young Americans have no understanding of the issues and cannot make an intelligent decision. Yet how many adults understand or care about these issues and make a mature decision when voting. However, the youth can provide insight on many issues and concern, but they have no voice and no representation. • 7. Biography Of Elvis Presley About 70 years ago, Elvis Presley roamed the world. At age 13, his hair was dark brown like some people s eyes, and his eyes were green like fresh grass being watered. He was regular height, 5 1 with no tattoos, but is planning on getting them all over his arms. His favorite outfit was black pants with a black or green t shirt or once in a while, a fancy long sleeve shirt. One really good thing about him is that he sang really well. He worked at a little food truck that when you come up to it, it smells like melted cheese and toasted bread. He also took singing lessons with his dad. He was always conceited and would think he s the best, but he was very caring. Him and his dad had a quote they used to tell each other, when things go wrong, ... I soon got to this tiny country I never found out about and I assumed was close. For some reason, people had white signs with a big black sharpie written on it for my dad saying MISSING. The smell of fresh paint. So I knew he was here. Just about figured it was Victor, because he lives here according to other people in this town. This country is 1,000,000 miles away from home. I started to adventure out in the crowded forest, tropical jungle, and bright blue ocean to find him. I wouldn t let my best friend go. Mom, you have to stay. My mom didn t want to, but she agreed. I got to this one place, till I got bored and started singing. After I finished a song I wrote, I hear another of my songs that someone is singing, and that someone s voice sounds familiar. Dad? • 8. My Life Has Been A Rollercoaster, With Many Ups And Downs My life has been a rollercoaster, with many ups and downs. I am thankful for the ups and downs. The downs have made me strong and the ups have showed me that life is worth living. I was born in the United states but raised in Nicaragua. I do not consider myself neither from here nor there. I consider myself a fusion of both cultures. During the mid 80s, my parents were growing up under the Sandinista communist regime. They lived in a country isolated by a civil war, subjected to extreme polarization, with a deeply censored press, and diminished liberties. The communist regime that had oppressed his childhood was coming back right in front of his eyes. My dad s party became the opposition. The municipal elections that followed were a complete nightmare. For the first time since 1990, independent observers, foreign and local, were refused accreditation to monitor the election. Mr Ortega said that they were barred because they were backed by outside powers . A week before the election my mom took us out of school early. She soon explained, that they have called our house and said they were coming to kill us. We went into hiding at my great aunts house. At the end of the day, they were only empty threats, but the psychological damage was done. According to the electoral council s provisional results, the Sandinistas duly won 94 of the 146 mayorships at stake. They stole the elections and there was nothing to be done. • 9. My Mistress Eyes Figurative Language Essay Wiry hair, bad breath, pale face these don t seem like the words you would use towards someone you love. Shakespeare uses these terms to describe his romantic partner in the poem My Mistress Eyes. At first glance, the reader could mistake this for a love poem. In reality, this poem illustrates how someone could find fault in the one they think they love. As a result of Shakespeare s romantic preferences and that he wrote many poems about love, My Mistress Eyes seems to be about love between a man and a woman, but the speaker in the poem critiques his mistress through figurative language, rhythm and rhyme, and a romantic mood. In this specific poem Shakespeare uses figurative language to make it seem like a love poem but makes you read it twice to really understand what he is actually saying about his significant other. One of the main forms of figurative language in this poem is shown in metaphors. These are important to the poem to make the comparison of her features to other objects. If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head. (Ln 4) Her hair is thick, rough and messy as if they were actually wires, not nice and smooth like you would want hair to be. (Lns 9 10) He likes to hear her voice yet he knows that music is more pleasing. In his writing he makes us imagine a realistic woman not a model or a dream woman as some would say. Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth possess seductive powers of persuasion, uses her wits and prowess to rejoin the heavens and earth with the underworld. The poem begins with the story of creation ... and when heaven had moved away from the earth, and the earth separated from heaven (P 4) so were the gods separated from the underworld. Inanna must arm herself with powers and she chose the following me: a crown, lapis beads, a royal robe, she anointed her eyes, bound a breastplate around her chest, slipped a gold ring over her wrist and took the lapis measuring rod and line in her hand (P 53). Inanna is not sure if she has chosen the correct me for this task, so she instructs her sukkal as to a backup plan in case she does not return. When Inanna is at the gates of the underworld, she is asked why she has come. She says she wants to witness the funeral rites of her dead brother in law, however, she is not coming to her sister Ereshkigal in truth. The aspects of the me are a mix of tangible and intangible concepts. The crown, the robe, the colorful garment , are all physical tangible aspects of her superiority. Inanna chose not to use the art of lovemaking, the art of the elder or the art of power (P 17). She carefully selected seven me to take on her journey to the underworld. • 11. The Loss Of Desire In A Streetcar Named Desire, By... Many people would say that Blanche is innocent and pure; however, through her lies and difficult experiences, it is proven that the way Blanche portrays herself is pure act. The play A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams portrays Blanches dramatic shift in beliefs, which through her encounters, figuratively and literally destroys her. Blanche, originally, grew up as an innocent and honest young girl, but her hardships and tough journey from innocence to insanity encouraged this to change her and cause her to become crazed. Blanches own actions are what lead her to her tragic downfall by the end of the story, but many may consider Blanche a victim . From the beginning of the play, Blanche considers herself to be innocent, but through many conflicts she begins to suffer and regress mentally and physically. Experiences such as loss, desire, and violence all lead Blanche to insanity, which ultimately annihilates her. Early on in the play, Blanche Dubois was a wealthy, innocent and beautiful young woman. After experiencing the hardship of loss in particular, these traits slowly but surely went away. The tragic loss of Blanches husband, Allan Grey, and her childhood home in Belle Reve is what caused a turn of events in Blanches innocent life. Blanche Dubois has never been able to relieve herself from the guilt she feels due to the loss of her husband. Blanche is ultimately responsible for her husbands suicide, after her insensitive remarks about him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. John Winthrop s Vision Of A Prosperous Christian... The presence of religion is ingrained into the history of the United States of America. Serving as a haven for disgruntled religious rebels from the Old World, the colonies became embroiled into the question of Christian identity. John Winthrop envisioned that a Christian utopia would arise in the New World, convinced it would become reality as long as the inhabitants practiced Christianity in its proper form. Despite these high aspirations, future believers saw Winthrop s vision fall short. Cotton Mather believes that the Christian community fell victim to a sinful environment. Alternatively, preacher Jonathan Edwards believes that the self hinders a meaningful relationship with Christ. All men of great faith, they believed that indulgence in sin would bring about ruin to their communities, and issued public warnings that advised fellow believers on how to save their souls, and by extension, their communities. Winthrop s vision of a prosperous Christian community was defined by several key characteristics, given by Winthrop himself. Winthrop states ...so this great King will have many stewards, counting Himself more honored in dispensing His gifts to man by man, than if He did it by His own immediate hands (166). Winthrop believes that it is the duty of the community to directly practice Christian doctrine and values. It is through this direct action that God will bring about prosperity to the population. The title of the film refers to servants that abandoned the house and is used constantly throughout the film to reference the intruders and other spirits the original family believe are residing there. The main lesson to be learned from the film is that things are never as they appear which is proven when we find out that the mother, Grace, killed her own children and is a ghost along with her children. Since Grace is a ghost attempting to live in a world where her children are alive, she is living in the past which we find out leads to her breakdown when she finds out she is already dead. Ipsilateral Knee Injury Essay 1.1 Background Concomitant knee injuries and knee pain associated with lower limb fractures often stay undetected, or are inadequately addressed in fracture treatment plans, which then attributes to poor treatment outcomes. [1,2,3] The treatment of choice for tibial shaft fractures is intramedullary (IM) nailing.[4] After placing an IM nail during surgery, the ROM of the ipsilateral knee joint can be compromised due to pain, undetected ligamental, meniscal injuries, or the positioning of the IM tibial nail itself. [2,5,6,7] Although knee pain has been announced the most frequent complication of IM nailing, often times these instabilities are overlooked during emergency surgical care and remain unaddressed in post surgical management. [3,8] Long term follow up studies on anterior knee pain described incidental rates between 10 and 83 percent among patients. Overall, the goal of the original position is to find out a fair and equal way to achieve the principles of justice. Why is The Veil of Ignorance an Important Feature of The Original Position? The main goal of the original position is to set up a impartial procedure so that any principle agreed to will be fair and just (Rawls, 1971). In order to create principles that are fair and just, people must nullify the effects of specific contingencies which put men at odds and tempt them to exploit social and natural circumstances to their own advantage. (Rawls, 1971, 136) In order to do this effectively, Rawls argues that the parties involved have to be situated behind a veil of ignorance (Rawls, 1971). Without being behind the veil of ignorance, and if a knowledge of particulars is allowed, then the outcome is biased by arbitrary contingencies. (Rawls, 1971, 141) Therefore, the restrictions on the particular knowledge in the original position are of fundamental importance (Rawls, 1971). Without the original position, the parties involved would not be able to work out any definite principles of justice (Rawls, 1971). The society who does not enact a social contract from the original position would then have to be content with a vague understanding of justice and therefore have very little substance to the agreement itself (Rawls, 1971). It s called the no comply and can be perfected with practice following these steps. Beginners should initially attempt this trick in a flat area with ample room for mistakes. Both of these tricks begin by cruising along at a controlled speed, pushing off as needed with your back foot. The trick starts with your back foot on the tail of the board, with the toe of your front foot in the middle, again rolling forward. Your front foot should be tilted at a 45° angle. You will raise your front foot off the board, applying pressure with your back foot while twisting inward just slightly at your back ankle.
