Reasons For European Exploration
SCHWEIKART ALLEN 1: City on a Hill What were the reasons for European exploration? Explain
Gold, Glory, and God. They basic reasons for Europeans exploring was because of the phrase Gold,
God, and Glory . The gold was promised to the explorers by the king and queen of their country if
they were to find new land; some went believing that their duty to the people of the new land was to
introduce them to their religion and bring god to them by spreading their faith; and lastly the glory
was the idea that the adventure of claiming land would make them rich instead of poor sailors and
longed to be praised. How does Schweikart and Allen s portrayal of Columbus differ from Zinn s?

An Analysis Of Maya Angelou And Alice Walker
Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are two well known contemporary African American writers.
Although both women are from different generations they share some of the same qualities and
experiences. Both women used their past experiences of tragedy and hardship as a stepping stool for
growth by turning that pain into what now are famous stories and poems. For most writers, majority of
their work stem from their own experiences, and for both Alice and Maya a great deal of their works
regarded the dilemmas many African American people faced during that time such as prejudice and
discrimination.
They were each so passionate about equal rights for colored people that they got involved with the
civil rights movement. Maya Angelou participated in the movement in the 1960s by touring the
country with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as he prepared for the Poor People s Campaign . Alice Walker
participated by writing a novel in 1976 called Meridian, which is known as the meditation on the
modern civil rights movement. Both women also had strong views about equality for African
American women, and soon became known as Feminist. They used their platform as writers to express
the challenges many black women faced, as well as give women like them a voice by promoting
gender equality.
Although Maya Angelou and Alice Walker share these similarities, there are still unique facts that
separate these writers apart. Marguerite Annie Johnson, also known as Maya Angelou, was born on

The Red Tent (All You Need to
Literary Analysis: The Red Tent The author and her times Anita Diamant, author of the historic fiction
novel, The Red Tent, is a devout Jewish American living in Newtonville, Massachusetts with her
husband and daughter, Emilia. She has written five books about contemporary Jewish life, The Red
Tent being her first novel. Diamant may have been influenced by the recent resurgence of creating
Midrashim, or stories that attempt to explain the Torah by examining its subtexts. Modern women
have taken a keen interest in this practice, hoping to expand on the minute biblical mentions of women
like Dinah. Form, structure and plot The Red Tent is organized in a seemingly complicated yet
beautifully simple way. There are three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only physical description of Dinah is quite vague: #8216; #8230;the dark eyed girl with the curly
hair and the fine hands #8230; #8217; (Diamant 189). She was a mid eastern girl, but little else is said
of her appearance. Dinah #8217;s character is essential to the novel, as it is a chronicle of her life. She
is the heart and soul of the story. Through her the reader experiences one of the oldest stories of all
time, Genesis, through the eyes of someone who was painfully obscure for thousands of years. A
simple description of her own name best describes Dinah #8217;s character: Maybe you heard it in the
music of my name: the first vowel high and clear, as when a mother calls to her child at dusk; the
second sound soft, for whispering secrets on pillows (Diamant 1). Even so early in the novel, before
the actual story begins, Diamant establishes a maternal element in Dinah. Whispering secrets proves to
be an important element in Dinah #8217;s life, as the secrets of women are passed from mother to
daughter in a never ending cycle of life and love. In concordance with the importance placed on
mothers in The Red Tent, Dinah #8217;s most prominent mother figures, Leah and Rachel, are
instrumental to the plot. When the story begins (i.e. when Jacob arrives), the sisters are fourteen and
twelve. They are followed to their deaths, which, although unsaid, would be thought to be in

Investigating The Mechanism Of Decomposition, Reaction...
Abstract:
Thermal analysis data is used to determine the mechanism of decomposition, reaction energetics, and
gas evolution of a material, specifically calcium silicate, also called limestone. Based on the basic
rules of thermodynamics, a hypothesis can be formed that, as limestone is heated, it decomposes into
calcium oxide and carbon dioxide due to heat transfer and the creation of impurities. The addition of
silicon oxide, or quartz, can also cause limestone to decompose in the same manner. This was tested
using experiments including Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Mass Spectrometry (MS), and
Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Figures 1 3 confirm this hypothesis through extensive
logging of data. Future work can include data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike pressure, temperature is a simple variable to alter. This is why it is preferred when analyzing
controlled reaction rates, such as heat transfer. An increase in temperature causes certain materials,
commonly salts, to decompose, controlling the free energy that is released. Salts, which are unstable at
high temperatures, are ideal subjects for thermal analysis. For example, when CaCO3 decomposes
into CaO and CO2, the nucleation of CaO causes a decrease in temperature [that] represents the
endothermic heat absorbed by the reaction. The decomposition of a material is affected by various
factors, such as the pressure exerted on the material while it is heated, the amount of time the material
is exposed to heat, and the rate of heat transfer. (Kingery).
On a macroscopic level, as limestone is heated, it will darken in color as it separates into calcium
oxide and carbon dioxide. As it decomposes, calcium oxide will be formed into a solid and carbon
dioxide will be released as a gas. The calcined powder will retain its darker color, but would otherwise
look similar to the initial limestone. Decomposition is a reaction to the impurities caused by the
heating of the material. (Thermogravimetric).
Experimental Methods:
After collecting samples and placing the calcium silicate, limestone, into each machine for the
duration of time needed to collect 230 data points, testing is completed. While in the

Psychodynamic And Object Relations Theories
Amongst all psychodynamic approaches, object relations theory fitted like a puzzle for me. I have an
integrated style with a mix of some humanistic and psychodynamic approaches like Freud s free
association or Jung s dream analysis but Object Relations stand out for me. I relate to it at a deep
personal level where my poor relationship with my mother affected my married life and in my client
work a common thread that ran through was how faulty infantile object relations have an impact on
adult relationships. Object relations theory follows a model that believes that children are driven by
the need for attachment with primary caregivers especially the mother and it is paramount for the
development of a free functioning psychic structure.

The Importance Of Genes In The Evolution Of Plants
2011). The genes have been awoken in multiple angiosperm plants throughout the evolution of today s
modern plants. These genes have not been found in gymnosperms. The genes are only being utilized
when in seed form for most flowering plants. Being able to switch these genes on like a light switch,
in the tissue and fiber of conventional crops will aid in our fight against world hunger.
During severe desiccation periods, plant lose all the available protoplasmic water. This loss of water
causes structural stress as decreased cell volume places tension on the plasmalemma as it shrinks form
plasmadesmatal attachments to the cell wall, the ultimate rupture of which allows entry of
extracellular hydrolases and cell death (Jill F. 2016). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A plant that could essentially lose more than 90% of its molecular H2O, regenerate and begin growing
again after long periods of drought could possibly change how whole nations do agriculture.
Agricultural regions that are rain fed would be able to incorporate an additional growing season. This
can be achieved by leaving the plants that have died from lack of water till the next year when the rain
falls thus causing an early crop that will be simultaneous with planting the next year s crop or a spread
out cropping throughout the year because different plants will be a different maturation stages. The
effects this process will have will ensure that no plant is wasted due to heat stress. The amount of
plants that die from heat stress will vary, never the less implementing the desiccated crops in with the
crops that survive from the current year will benefit yield production.
Resurrection plants can remain in the dead, fringed state for months to years. Even after being dead it
can still regenerate, become green and continue to grow. Like the seeds of all angio sperm plants, the
seeds are desiccation tolerant. Only 135 flowering plants have the regenerative tissue. As of 2016
there are 391,000 vascular plants in the world. 369,000 of those

Sex And The City Motherhood Essay
Motherhood in America is something that takes a lot of work and dedication and can be considered a
full time job. Sex and the City, black ish, and Jane the Virgin are three examples that present
motherhood in different lights. In the movie Sex and the City portrays motherhood as something no
women can do alone. In black ish it shows a dream world where a mother can work a full time job and
still be able to be around for her kids. Compared to these unrealistic forms of media, Jane The Virgin
shows the true struggles of raising a baby. It shows how it takes a village to raise a baby and how
motherhood is not always sunshine and rainbows. Using Radical Cultural Feminism and Materialist
Feminism, displays ways in which motherhood is depicted in these three films in order to reveal the
struggles and overall rewarding experience of being a mother. When viewing Sex ... Show more

One view of the Materialist Feminist is that women are taught to see their bodies as commodities. This
is very true in Jane The Virgin concerning Petra. They would have liked that Petra uses her body to get
what she wants and to get where she wants to be. Her mother is always mentioning about how her
beauty is what is important and what will get her through life. In Season 1 episode 5 Petra s mother
says about how her skin is so dry and that she needs to take care of it. She then tells Petra that your
beauty is your weapon. Petra has been raised to use her body has a commodity. The system of Petra
using her body as a commodity to get ahead is bad. But, she is never alienated from her intellectual
processes and abilities. Materialist Feminists believe that women alienate themselves by seeing their
bodies as commodities and not trusting their intellectual abilities. Petra may use her body to get what
she wants, but she is never put down by the men and always seems to hold power over

Microfinance Institutions Sustainability
MFI sustainability: The role of subsidies and grants
Microfinance institutions (MFI) have created intense debates in an industry of traditional banking.
Being primarily focused on mission of poverty reduction through economic stimulation of low income
areas, MFI have sharpened the credit policy to specification of area of interests. The major distinction
is loan interest rate being notably higher in comparison to profit orientated financial institutions
(Rosenberg et al. 2009). The reason roots in excessive cost of funds and administrative loses faced by
growing industry. As noted in Cull et.al (2009), interest paid by borrowers represents the struggle of
MFI to overcome the burden of expenses and achieve financial sustainability. The latter however, can
be reached by altering the capital structure of MFI through diversification of source of funding or
rejection of capital which can lead to malfunction. As soon as the changes are implemented,
institutions can proceed to expansion reaching increasing return to scale and beneficially affecting
sustainability. This essay would focus on the role on subsidies in performance of MFI. The rationale
behind exploring this form of noncommercial capital is that total amount of subsidized capital in MFI
reached almost 16 billion in 2009 (Bloomberg, 2012) posing a question regarding the alternative and
probably more efficient use of respective funds to support poor. The second reason derives from the
number of researches discussed later,

Importance of Free Speech
College is a time when most individuals are experiencing major changes and begin to explore new
perspectives. The transition in becoming more independent, creating new insights and peer influence
are key factors in changing the perspective of an individual. Students are faced with new ideas from
their professors, family and fellow peers. Through that acquired knowledge many students decide that
they either agree or disagree with the perspectives that they are taught. Allowing the right of Free

Despite their opinions, free speech was a great way in this situation for students to rally together and
publically inform the rest of campus of their beliefs. In the school newspaper, The Daily Emerald, CJ
Ciaramelle wrote About 300 students from across the campus community student unions, Greek Life,
the ASUO, the Survival Center, the Women s Center showed up at the meeting to protest the Forum
(1). Although the majority of people protested against the forum the right to free speech, it is
important because it allows students to make decisions on their own and invite students to do the
same.
Free speech often has negative connotations because the negative outcomes are publicized more than
the positive outcomes. Free Speech is a time for individuals to express their beliefs and topic on an
important issue. People chose to present themselves in a vast majority of ways such as, holding signs,
making t shirts, shouting, etc. People who chose to present themselves in disrupting ways such as, foul
language, inappropriate attire are more likely to be noticed than another student that is holding a
simple and respectful sign. Schmidt states, Universities cannot censor or suppress speech, no matter
how obnoxious in content, without violating their justification of existence (2). There is no definition
of what type of free speech should be censored and not allowed. With that said, there should not be a
limit on free speech

Comparison Of The BeatlesThe Beatles And The Rolling Stones
The Beatles and the Rolling Stones first number one hit songs in the United States, I Want To Hold
Your Hand and (I Can t Get No) Satisfaction were major players in the British Invasion, a musical
revolution which saw a massive spike in the popularity of British artists and culture in America. Both
songs hold some similarities, most notably in the composition of the instruments, along with some
conventions seen in the genre. Yet, strong differences can be found in the vocals, lyrics and general
tone of the songs, showing the separation between two rising subcultures in England. Although very
similar in composition, the two bands display the growing rift between the mods and the rockers those
who preferred the clean cut look and music inspired by the blues, and those who preferred the
rebellious nature of a harder rock and roll.
Both songs display a very similar make up as far as the band and instruments of choice. The core
consists of two guitars, one for lead, and the other for helping maintain rhythm, a bass guitar and
drums along with vocals. The difference here is seen in the instruments used to follow the beat. The
Beatles utilized hand clapping in the background, standing out distinctly from the drums during a
verse, and dissipating as the chorus starts. A good example of this can be heard at 0:07, running until
0:21 as the chorus leads in. The Rolling Stones takes a different approach, using a tambourine and
keeping it on a consistent beat throughout the entire

its way to unleash good talents during easy times for people can understand who they really are in

adversity. At a young age, my mother was facing a plea of guilt ridden crisis of economy aid. The
result of course was traveling to another state and start college there for a better future. A few years
later, she became an upstanding woman of society who can pay her own bills, also very

I looked at my dog and made eye contact with his large brown eyes. Time seemed to slow down as I
read his eyes like an open book. I still remember the look today, while I was laying on the couch next

I remember a week or so earlier when my mom came home after bringing Journey home from the vet.
There were so many tears that day. She told me that Journey had a tumor where his large and small

Analysis Of Brother Can You Spare A Dime

people during the Great Depression. However, E.Y. (Yip) Harburg the Legendary Lyricist of the 1930

Unemployed, hungry, and homeless, the people were desperate to find money to support their family,
as Harburg depicts in his song. People began blaming themselves for their misfortune. They believed
that success went to those who worked hard and deserved it (Cook, Karan 415). Therefore, people
blamed themselves for the loss of their jobs and the inability to support their families during this
economic crisis. This sense of self blame and self doubt was perhaps the reason for an increase in
suicide rates during this period (Cook, Karan 415). It was during this event that Harburg wrote his
song, Brother, Can You Spare a Dime? , that represented the struggles the people were going through.
As the song represented all of the Americans who built the great nation, those who had earth to plow
or guns to bear (3) and those who built a railroad (9) or built a tower (13) many were able to identify
themselves with the singer and perhaps had a much deeper understanding of the song s meaning.
Harburg strengthens his credibility and thus appeals to ethos by directly characterizing the singer as
someone the reader already knows, like the kid with the drum (20), and the reader s pal (23) who they
called Al (21). He also does this by making the singer relatable to his

Teaching-Learning Based Optimization Algorithm
Teaching−Learning Based Optimization Algorithm
TLBO is a recently proposed meta heuristic that imitates a successful and dynamic educational
strategy in a classroom [29 31]. Similar to most evolutionary algorithms, TLBO is a population based
algorithm. The population consists of some students and a teacher. The teacher is the most
knowledgeable one in the population.
The main advantage of this algorithm over other evolutionary algorithms is that TLBO has no
adjustable parameters, so there is no need to design a tuning mechanism for the parameters. The
educational strategy of this algorithm includes both direct and interactive instruction. Actually, not
only can the students be affected by their teacher, but also they can affect each other.
TLBO algorithm can be divided into two phases: 1 Teaching phase (direct instruction) 2 Learning
phase (interactive instruction). In the teaching phase, the teacher provides information for all the
students and the students learn from their teacher, while in the learning phase they can learn from each
other and develop their skills. The pseudo code of the proposed TLBO algorithm is shown in Figure 1.
Teaching phase
The best member is selected as the teacher in each iteration. The teacher trains his/her students. In
practice the teacher can only improve the mean of the students knowledge. Students improvement
depends on the students aptitude for learning. The knowledge of each student is changed according to
the following equations:

Chapman s article explains the truth behind coerced false confessions, which involves suspects
admitting to a crime they did not commit. With true examples and specific explanations and
descriptions, Chapman shows just how suspects feel their only option is a fabricated confession.
Through interrogations, police can involve threats, manipulation, persuasion, and several other
methods to make a person confess. Factors such as stress and fear can also cause suspects to confess.
In some cases, innocent suspects even come to believe they are guilty due to incorrect interrogation
methods. This article is not all about police forcing people to confess though, it also explains how
police are put under a tremendous amount of pressure to get a confession out of someone, any person
who will confess. Therefore, they do anything they can to get the confession they so ... Show more

Socrates Examined Life
1. According to Socrates, the Examined Life is a life engaged in conversation with oneself, others, and
questioning for the good. Socrates was put on trial for what Athens called corrupting young people
because he was so influential in his teaching about the examined life. He was remarkably passionate
about philosophy believing that the unexamined life is not worth living and that he would rather die
than give up his beliefs. However, the examined life is not sufficient for living a morally worthwhile
life.
2. To live a morally worthwhile life you need to know what is right and what is wrong. A commonly
accepted meaning or synonym of right is what is morally correct. A generally acknowledged meaning
or synonym of wrong is unjust or immoral.
3. Knowledge of right and wrong cannot be acquired solely through the examined life; one will gain
these values through the social framework and a philosophical aptitude as well. One cannot simply

One may object that not everyone has the ability to be philosophical. Every person s brain works a
little differently. Not everyone thinks about every detail as deep as those with a philosophical thinking.
Those without the philosophical thinking tend to go along more with anything rather than questioning
or may stay on the superficial layer of conversations. On the other hand, it is acceptable to not meet
one of the contributing factors to living a morally worthwhile life because it is not dependent on a
single factor like solely the examined life. One may say that everyone has to be philosophical to live a
morally worthwhile life. However, not specifically everyone because some may luck out and have a
philosophical person who is actually telling them what is right and what is wrong. Then, one might
question about the other people who do not luck out. Not everyone can be perfect, get what they want,

Punishment In The Criminal Justice System
Punishment of individuals who act harmful to the society or environment has been practiced from time
immemorial. Criminals are subjected to undesirable outcome instructed by power. In the old and
middle ages, people who committed crimes were not only heavily punished but also were subjected to
harsh torture which in the present is insignificant since human civilization. Suspects who were not
necessarily criminals were cut off their limbs, drowned or burnt alive among others. Upon human
advancement, such modes of retribution are not present. With criminal justice system, several
procedures are involved from inception to trial then punishment to ensure no individual is unduly

The criminal law requires any defendant to be competent enough not only during the alleged offense
but also during his time of trial ( Competence to Stand Trial, n.d). Those with questionable
competency should undergo special treatment before they are tried. This operates to ensure ethics are
upheld, morals and justice of the defendant. Defendant s competence is measured in terms of their
rationalism and a competency evaluation. A rational defendant is one who understands the penalties,
courtroom proceedings and can consult with their lawyer or attorney. This requirement ensures a
defendant can participate in their own defense, hence a rational defendant should be subject to
standard sentencing procedures. It would be unconstitutional and immoral for an individual who lacks
the ability to understand, communicate and make rational decision to undergo standard procedures of
sentencing. Instead, incompetent defendants should be restrained in mental hospitals to serve their
punishment ( Competence to Stand Trial, n.d). The validity of competence should be measured by
conducting an assessment of the individual. If questionable, Competence Screening Test may be done
where the defendant fills in a form or a Competency Assessment Instrument for a face to face
interview. Therefore standard trials can only be considered trustworthy only after defendant s
competence is assured

Paleolithic Art Research Paper
Paleolithic art, an introduction
The oldest art: ornamentation
Humans have been creating art with many different meanings and using a plethora of materials for
thousands of years. Ancient non representational ornamentation has been discovered all across Africa,
featuring punctured snail shells covered in red ochre. These shells are believed to be around 82,000
years old, and have shown to be strung as beads for necklaces and other jewelry. In Israel, Nassarius
beads have been discovered, reaching up to 100,000 years old. Shells that were pierced and
geometrically etched with ochre were also discovered in a 75,000 year old layer of sediment.
The oldest representational art
Representational imagery in its oldest form is believed to come from the Paleolithic period, from the
Aurignacian culture. Across Europe, 200 caves with paintings, sculptures and drawings displaying
representational image making were found. A female figure carved out of ivory, standing 2.4 inches
tall, was discovered in fragments in southern Germany, dating to 35,000 B.C.E. ... Show more content

Importance Of Reading And Writing
Reading and writing is very essential in one s lifetime. People always say they don t like reading and
they don t like writing because it s boring and they have no interest, but little do they know they do it
way more than they think. Everyday you re reading and writing, it might not be reading from a book
or writing an essay but you re doing it. Most of you re reading comes from you reading texts
messages, reading comments and captions on social media, reading road signs, etc. Most of your
writing comes from typing those text messages and comments and captions. Without reading and
writing you will basically have the same mental capacity of a rock. You wouldn t be able to get out the
right pronunciation of words correctly and be able to understand thigs people are trying to tell you or
write out to you. Other than oxygen and water reading and writing is the most essential part of a
human s life.
As a young kid, I was always good at reading and writing. I always had some of the best hand writing
and I could always spell out words easily. Back then my mom would put me on different learning
mechanisms like children s books and Hooked on Phonics. Those tools it what helped me to be the
good speller, reader writer I am today. I used to showcase my talents in the annual spelling bee s every
year in elementary, I would never win but I would always come in second or third only because I have
a slight problem of just spelling words out word of mouth, but I can write out any word

The Economics of the iPhone
The Economics of the iPhone
Introduction
The best selling Apple iPhone by any measure of financial and market performance is an unparalleled
success. The Apple iPhone is credited with creating one of the most robust, extensive supply chain
ecosystems globally today, fueling nearly $7B to $10B in ancillary products and services.
Paradoxically even the success of the iPhone has done little to increase U.S. exports. Startlingly the
Apple iPhone s success, according to a recent study, has actually fueled an even greater deficit in the
U.S., making a significant contribution to the $1.9B deficit with China (Xing, Detert, 2011). This
counterintuitive finding from the analysis of the researchers suggest that transaction velocity and
supply chain coordination across global networks increase export surpluses not of the nation who
company built the product, but the one that builds it (Xing, Detert, 2011).
Analysis
The pace of new product introductions combined with the exceptionally rapid growth of global supply
chains and their performance have paradoxically put the United States in an ever more dependent
condition with China and other trading partners. This in turn has created a high level of dependency
on pricing and availability factors of production, which from an import and export standpoint, favor
China significantly over the U.S. (Xing, Detert, 2011).
In addition to these factors, the capital infusions from global investors are now favoring those

The theological model John Barbour lists the various models for Christ s atonement: suffering,
sacrificial victim, liberator and moral example. In ethics, the servant model may clarify how
Christians are to behave. (20) Marc Cortez notes that in the context of theology we have a translation
model. This model articulates absolute biblical truths in a manner that is easily communicated and
understood. The praxis model, however, is more concerned with transforming these truths into action.
Cortez points out that the purpose of a theological model is to spell out, clarify, and extend the
conceptual content and implications of a model. The primary value of theoretical models is that of
suggesting potentially fruitful lines of inquiry and the revelation of new interpretations.

Justification of Brutus’ Betrayal of William Shakespeare´s...
In William Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar, the character of Marcus Brutus is tasked with making
a difficult choice: either kill one of his most beloved friends, or risk the corruption and downfall of
Rome. Though Brutus acknowledges the ethical and moral concerns of his actions, he commits to the
conspiracy against Caesar, and carries it out with conviction. The question, however, is whether or not
Brutus actions are justifiable from an objective point of view. Unlike most other political
assassinations, Brutus isn t a hysterical stranger distraught with the target, but a close ally, and trusted
friend. Brutus justifies his own doings by convincing himself and others that they re sacrificing, not

dioxins in the Parramatta River is the 2002 Environmental Impact Statement which has proposed to
remediate the Unioon Carbide/Lednez site and parts of Homebush Bay, reducing the dioxins levels.
But to remediate the whole Sydney Harbour, the actual strategy being adopted is to wait until the
dioxin settles in the bottom of the Sydney Bay and it gets covered by sediments
The dioxins are dispersed into a big area of Sydney Harbour. The main responsible processes for the
spread of dioxins were the aerial deposition of dioxins that were produced as a by product of
combustion of pesticide production. Other mechanisms are the transportation of dioxins that were
contained in soil sediments by the stormwater, and the dispersion of dioxins when wind driven waves
resuspended them and the spring tidal currents transported them to other locations.

of animals, and persist over the food

Essay Cost Volume Profit Analysis
Cost volume profit (CVP) analysis and costing for the 21st century has evolved into a very complex
and difficult paradigm. Even the most gifted accountants find that grasping the entire concept of
accounting for a corporation can be very mind boggling and difficult. Yet, understanding such a
fundamental principle can allow corporations to grow in ways that other, less educated, corporations
can never dream to achieve and simultaneously understand the bottom line . In this paper we will

Unfortunately, not all companies are as benign and have the ability to define all their variables,
especially when their product is so diverse and complex. Gupta states, in virtual enterprises it is
important to adopt a costing system based on performance and indentifying critical success factors and
tracing the measures and metrics to those factors that would ultimately lead to an improved
organizational performance and competitiveness and value (Gupta , 2005). Simply put, due to
companies evolving, their way of measuring their success can be better understood through a CVP
analysis. But, due to the complexities and many assumptions created by that analysis, I would have to
disagree. Gupta also states, the cost and performance measures in New Enterprises have to focus on
delivering value rather than merely trying to establish the historical cost (2005). I find this statement
very relevant because historical cost only allows the company to see the beginning and the end, and
separates them from the present. Understanding the present and ongoing cost is important in
determining value of a product and corporation because it possesses the true and present success.
Some of the assumptions of CVP as outlined by accountingformanagenment are: selling price is
constant regardless of volume change, costs are linear, with multi products the sales mix is constant,
and manufacturing companies inventories do not change (N.D.). Because of the assumptions

Steve Pollock Ecology Summary
Ecology is a non fiction text written by Steve Pollock, which centres around the subject on the natural
state of our earth. This book discusses and explores on the various topics of our ecosystem, what it is
and the different aspects in our ecosystem such as: population, trophic level, predation, Eco life,
relationships between the living organisms, and human impact of the environment The book first
introduces the subject of ecology, and gives a brief overview on what it consists of. According the
definition offered by the text ecology is the study of living thing in their natural state. The book also
explains what the ecosystem is, and what is included in it. An ecosystem contains living and non
living organisms which feed, reproduce, and interact in the same environment. An ecosystem is made
up of various communities which are formed when different populations of different species co exist
in the same area. Many of the relationships in nature can be either categorized as mutalistic or
commensalistic. The writing illustrates that a mutualistic relationship is when both animals benefit
from the interaction with one another. The clown fish and the sea anemone are a great example if
mutalistic symbiosis relationship. The sea anemone protects the clown fish from predators by using it
s tentacles, while the sea clown fish provides the sea anemone scrapes of food that has fallen from it s
self. A commesnalistic is when one animal has the upper hand or benefits from the interaction. ...

NAEYC Guidelines For Affective Development
Affective development can be defined as the emergence of the emotional capacity to experience,
recognize, and express a range of emotions to adequately response to emotional cues of others. Adults
play a very important role in the affective development in children. Now more than ever, children are
being raised in a very unpredictable world. Adults are now taking on a much greater challenge when
working with young children to help set the foundation for affective development. When it comes to
the educational side of affective development, teachers are given NAEYC guidelines to help in their
decision making. These guidelines are designed to promote competent young children. It is very
important when teaching or caring for children that we offer them a caring community to learn
(Charlesworth, 2014). The foundation of the community is consistent, positive, caring relationships
between adults and children, among children, among teachers and between teachers and families
(Charlesworth, 2014). What this ultimately means as a teacher, is that you need to provide to these
children a safe and secure place to learn. It is also very important to keep in mind that teaching is
about enhancing development, and ensuring that students know that you genuinely respect, and want
what s best for them. When teachers get to know their students, they can plan more individually based
on their specific needs. They are able to better prepare themselves to provide the students with the

Reflective Personal Reflection
It is quite fascinating the shifts our minds can create, how frequently we experience behavioral
changes and how much of an impact theses alterations can have on our lives. To me this is how
reflective psychology is in our development as humans. And for a very long time, my interests have
been drawn into the field of care and mental health. In particular, I have fixated my attention into the
growth and development of children. From a very young age, it has been an interest of mine to
understand the complex behavior certain children possessed. I mean the smallest of tantrums I saw
being displayed by my own siblings to me were quite interesting. I would encounter the bullying of
other children because of lack of understanding of the English language. While at the same time, I
would be so drawn and pleased with those who understood my struggle and tried to educate me. To
me, part of my childhood was certainly an amazing experience. I mean I lived in a Caribbean country
where I felt free to play and enjoy life at any time. Then I migrated with my parents to the United
States and I felt like I was segregated from my own people because of my language barrier. It is so
interesting how much a single move can in a sense traumatize the brain of a child. Even though I am
exceptionally pleased with the arrangements taken by my parents to move us here, in order to give us
a brighter future. I felt very disconnected and confused as to why I had to encounter such a harsh

The Illegal and Unethical Activities of Bernard Lawrence...
Bernard Lawrence Madoff, a former chairman of the NASDAQ Stock Market and founder of Bernard
L. Madoff Investment Securities, was one of the few NASDAQ market makers who competed with
the New York Stock Exchange, by trading stocks listed on the Big Board. Through the Cincinnati
exchange, the Madoff was a pioneer in electronic trading and publicly spoke of the need to use
technology to transform the inefficient and sometimes shady over the counter stock market (Monica
Gagnier, 2008). But Madoff became famous for a very different reason on December 10, 2008 when
Madoff s sons told authorities that their father had confessed to them that the asset management unit
of his firm was a massive Ponzi scheme. On March 12, 2009, Madoff pleaded ... Show more content

I know, I myself, if I was investing 5 million to Madoff who supposedly told me he could earn an
unusually higher return on my money than other investors, I would want to know exactly how he was
doing it. A financial risk manager might have been able to stop this from even happening. They might
have seen that Madoff s investment company was making substantial returns that were significantly
higher than everyone else in the same market, and was doing it consistently year after year, then they
might have saw that something just didn t add up. 4. Describe three ways private investors might have
better protected themselves from risk. It is an easy job to find thousands of financial agencies who are
ready to serve clients high benefits on their investments, but it s a tougher job to sort out the reputed
and reliable ones among them. So before investing their hard earned money, they should survey the
market first to know the agency s reputation. After doing their research they should better protect
themselves by: 1.Using a Certified Financial Planner which have more training than others and must
adhere to a strict Code of Ethics mandated by the Financial Planning Association. 2. Sticking with
investments they can understand and making sure their advisor can explain and you can understand

David Snow Psychological Theory
A psychological theory that can contribute to the explanation of David Snow and why he murdered
and sexually assaulted individuals would be Freud s psychoanalytic theory. According to Freud, one is
more likely to abide criminal behaviour when there is disruption during childhood psychosexual
development (Brookman, 2005a). In addition to development interruption, having a weak conscious
will coincide with the likelihood of criminal behaviour (Brookman, 2005a). The mind is comprised of
the Id, Ego and Superego, and when there is a conflict of these three efforts to make decisions results
in a weaker ability to make sufficient judgement (Brookman, 2005a). The Ego is supposed to reflect
adequate judgement through learning upon poor urges that lead ... Show more content on

Some of his signatures that was consistent and found through his victims and at the cottages were
bondage and strangulation, and his military writings. These type of M.O. s do not occur very
frequently as a tactic for death which eventually lead to the connection from Vancouver to Ontario.
For example, strangulation only occurs in 38.6% of killings (Fox Levin, 2015) and the use of gags or
blindfolds being 7.1% (Beauregard Martineau, 2012). It is also noteworthy Snow was described to be
a very organized individual, which increases the likelihood of moving the victim s body after the
crime (Beauregard Martineau, 2012), which was evident in the Blackburns deaths. Although these
characteristics are uncommon, police were able to utilize his M.O. to determine links between the
crimes and assisted in the identification of David Snow. Snow s victim s of the double murder were
acquaintances as they were connected from Snow going to the Blackburn s farm to get items for his
antique shop. According to Decker s article Exploring Victim offender Relationships in Homicide,
approximately 46% of homicides are involved with acquaintances (Decker, 1993). As Snow escalated
and the weekly victims occurred there was no evidence of knowing his victims, they were simply in a
vulnerable position which he took advantage of. This discrepancy of victim

Oxidative Coupling Of Alkyne Lab Report
Oxidative coupling of alkynes using the Glaser Eglinton Hay reaction
CH203 02
Fadwa Mekkaoui
Introduction/Procedure:
Oxidative coupling of alkynes is a method in which an oxidizing agent is used to eliminate a hydrogen
from an alkene, causing a carbon carbon bond to be made. A catalyst is used in order to speed up a
reaction by lowering the activation energy. The solvent used is 2 proponal and a chelating reagent,
tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA), is used to help CuCl dissolve in solvent. The experiment uses
techniques such as recrystallization, TLC, and infrared spectroscopy. This experiment is incredibly
green, since air is used as an oxygen resource and has no cost. CuCl is used a catalyst and a green
solvent, 2 propanol, is also used as a reaction medium which is a greener solvent.

the color went from a navy to a light blue with a tint of green. When the temperature was around 100
degrees it became a bright electric green and was shortly after filtered through vacuum filtration. The
crystals had a slightly green tint until they were properly washed with distilled water. A TLC was run
using the starting material and rxn. The product was massed and a melting point was determined. The
range for the meting point was given to be (174° 176°C) and the value obtained for the product was a
melting point of 177°C. This proved that our product was rather pure since it is one degree outside the
range. Errors could have occurred when measuring out the proper amount of CuCl or not washing the
crystals thoroughly to a pure

Qualitative Research And Quantitative Research
Qualitative research and Quantitative research
Qualitative research
Defilation
Qualitative research is a method used in different academic disciplines, generally in social science, but
also in research and further contexts. Qualitative researchers aim to attain detailed understanding of
human behavior rand the reasons that govern such behavior. The qualitative method investigates the
why and how of decision making, not just what, where, when. Hence, smaller but focused mainly on
samples are more often used than large samples.
In the conventional view, qualitative methods produce information only on the particular cases
studied, and any more general conclusions are only propositions (informed assertions). Quantitative
methods can then be used to seek empirical support for such research hypotheses.
Introduction There is a current dispute between qualitative and quantitative research methods. It is an
international acuminous and there are elements of state sponsored sp0rt in the west for a return to kind
of neopositivist quantitative inquiry.(stronach 2006; 758) Qualitative research becoming more and
more accepted in all world as a way of research. The reason behind is that, qualitative research give us
a large general surface picture plus qualitative research give us in depth picture and both pictures are
probably valuable as compare to hd documents.
Qualitative researchers are caught in the middle of

The Influence Of Puritans In New England
Puritanism a product of the protestant reformation was founded on the belief that only those who have
felt the presence of god should be given church membership. The Puritans beliefs strongly conflicted
with the religious systems of England, causing them to search for a new home. The Pilgrims, being
some of the first to leave England, traveled to holland for a 12 span and then eventually docked at
Plymouth Bay in New England. Being outside of the Virginia Company s territory their permission to
settle was void, but settle they did. Following the pilgrims lead, in 1630 close to one thousand puritans
sailed the Atlantic to escape persecution and settle in the new world. Due to a population comprised
mainly of Puritans, The New England colonies were founded upon religious values. The Puritans
religious beliefs caused them to set up a government built upon the church and to be xenophobic to
non Puritans, but were ultimately the key to their colonies success. ... Show more content on

The Puritans were no exception. Although there liberal style government was comprised of a system
of elected officials, only church members could vote, Yet the provincial government, liberal by the
standards of the time, was not a democarcy... But only Puritans the visible saints who were alone
eligible for church membership could be freemen [voters]. (35) The church developed enormous
amounts of power in New england, Religious leaders thus wielded enormous influence... (35), because
only church members could vote. Therefore the religious leaders were the only ones advising on
political matters. For better or worse New England s government was controlled solely by Puritans
and transitively by the Puritan

They basic reasons for Europeans exploring was because of the phrase Gold, God, and Glory . The gold was promised to the explorers by the king and queen of their country if they were to find new land; some went believing that their duty to the people of the new land was to introduce them to their religion and bring god to them by spreading their faith; and lastly the glory was the idea that the adventure of claiming land would make them rich instead of poor sailors and longed to be praised. • 3. An Analysis Of Maya Angelou And Alice Walker Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are two well known contemporary African American writers. Although both women are from different generations they share some of the same qualities and experiences. Both women used their past experiences of tragedy and hardship as a stepping stool for growth by turning that pain into what now are famous stories and poems. For most writers, majority of their work stem from their own experiences, and for both Alice and Maya a great deal of their works regarded the dilemmas many African American people faced during that time such as prejudice and discrimination. They were each so passionate about equal rights for colored people that they got involved with the civil rights movement. Maya Angelou participated in the movement in the 1960s by touring the country with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as he prepared for the Poor People s Campaign . Alice Walker participated by writing a novel in 1976 called Meridian, which is known as the meditation on the modern civil rights movement. Both women also had strong views about equality for African American women, and soon became known as Feminist. They used their platform as writers to express the challenges many black women faced, as well as give women like them a voice by promoting gender equality. Although Maya Angelou and Alice Walker share these similarities, there are still unique facts that separate these writers apart. • 4. The Red Tent (All You Need to Literary Analysis: The Red Tent The author and her times Anita Diamant, author of the historic fiction novel, The Red Tent, is a devout Jewish American living in Newtonville, Massachusetts with her husband and daughter, Emilia. She has written five books about contemporary Jewish life, The Red Tent being her first novel. Diamant may have been influenced by the recent resurgence of creating Midrashim, or stories that attempt to explain the Torah by examining its subtexts. Modern women have taken a keen interest in this practice, hoping to expand on the minute biblical mentions of women like Dinah. Form, structure and plot The Red Tent is organized in a seemingly complicated yet beautifully simple way. There are three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only physical description of Dinah is quite vague: #8216; #8230;the dark eyed girl with the curly hair and the fine hands #8230; #8217; (Diamant 189). She was a mid eastern girl, but little else is said of her appearance. Dinah #8217;s character is essential to the novel, as it is a chronicle of her life. She is the heart and soul of the story. Through her the reader experiences one of the oldest stories of all time, Genesis, through the eyes of someone who was painfully obscure for thousands of years. A simple description of her own name best describes Dinah #8217;s character: Maybe you heard it in the music of my name: the first vowel high and clear, as when a mother calls to her child at dusk; the second sound soft, for whispering secrets on pillows (Diamant 1). Even so early in the novel, before the actual story begins, Diamant establishes a maternal element in Dinah. Whispering secrets proves to be an important element in Dinah #8217;s life, as the secrets of women are passed from mother to daughter in a never ending cycle of life and love. In concordance with the importance placed on mothers in The Red Tent, Dinah #8217;s most prominent mother figures, Leah and Rachel, are instrumental to the plot. When the story begins (i.e. when Jacob arrives), the sisters are fourteen and twelve. They are followed to their deaths, which, although unsaid, would be thought to be in ... • 5. Investigating The Mechanism Of Decomposition, Reaction... Abstract: Thermal analysis data is used to determine the mechanism of decomposition, reaction energetics, and gas evolution of a material, specifically calcium silicate, also called limestone. Based on the basic rules of thermodynamics, a hypothesis can be formed that, as limestone is heated, it decomposes into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide due to heat transfer and the creation of impurities. The addition of silicon oxide, or quartz, can also cause limestone to decompose in the same manner. This was tested using experiments including Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Mass Spectrometry (MS), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Figures 1 3 confirm this hypothesis through extensive logging of data. Future work can include data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike pressure, temperature is a simple variable to alter. This is why it is preferred when analyzing controlled reaction rates, such as heat transfer. An increase in temperature causes certain materials, commonly salts, to decompose, controlling the free energy that is released. Salts, which are unstable at high temperatures, are ideal subjects for thermal analysis. For example, when CaCO3 decomposes into CaO and CO2, the nucleation of CaO causes a decrease in temperature [that] represents the endothermic heat absorbed by the reaction. The decomposition of a material is affected by various factors, such as the pressure exerted on the material while it is heated, the amount of time the material is exposed to heat, and the rate of heat transfer. (Kingery). On a macroscopic level, as limestone is heated, it will darken in color as it separates into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. As it decomposes, calcium oxide will be formed into a solid and carbon dioxide will be released as a gas. The calcined powder will retain its darker color, but would otherwise look similar to the initial limestone. Decomposition is a reaction to the impurities caused by the heating of the material. (Thermogravimetric). Experimental Methods: After collecting samples and placing the calcium silicate, limestone, into each machine for the duration of time needed to collect 230 data points, testing is completed. • 7. The Importance Of Genes In The Evolution Of Plants 2011). The genes have been awoken in multiple angiosperm plants throughout the evolution of today s modern plants. These genes have not been found in gymnosperms. The genes are only being utilized when in seed form for most flowering plants. Being able to switch these genes on like a light switch, in the tissue and fiber of conventional crops will aid in our fight against world hunger. During severe desiccation periods, plant lose all the available protoplasmic water. This loss of water causes structural stress as decreased cell volume places tension on the plasmalemma as it shrinks form plasmadesmatal attachments to the cell wall, the ultimate rupture of which allows entry of extracellular hydrolases and cell death (Jill F. 2016). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A plant that could essentially lose more than 90% of its molecular H2O, regenerate and begin growing again after long periods of drought could possibly change how whole nations do agriculture. Agricultural regions that are rain fed would be able to incorporate an additional growing season. This can be achieved by leaving the plants that have died from lack of water till the next year when the rain falls thus causing an early crop that will be simultaneous with planting the next year s crop or a spread out cropping throughout the year because different plants will be a different maturation stages. The effects this process will have will ensure that no plant is wasted due to heat stress. The amount of plants that die from heat stress will vary, never the less implementing the desiccated crops in with the crops that survive from the current year will benefit yield production. Resurrection plants can remain in the dead, fringed state for months to years. Even after being dead it can still regenerate, become green and continue to grow. Like the seeds of all angio sperm plants, the seeds are desiccation tolerant. Only 135 flowering plants have the regenerative tissue. Sex and the City, black ish, and Jane the Virgin are three examples that present motherhood in different lights. In the movie Sex and the City portrays motherhood as something no women can do alone. In black ish it shows a dream world where a mother can work a full time job and still be able to be around for her kids. Compared to these unrealistic forms of media, Jane The Virgin shows the true struggles of raising a baby. Microfinance Institutions Sustainability MFI sustainability: The role of subsidies and grants Microfinance institutions (MFI) have created intense debates in an industry of traditional banking. Being primarily focused on mission of poverty reduction through economic stimulation of low income areas, MFI have sharpened the credit policy to specification of area of interests. The major distinction is loan interest rate being notably higher in comparison to profit orientated financial institutions (Rosenberg et al. 2009). The reason roots in excessive cost of funds and administrative loses faced by growing industry. As noted in Cull et.al (2009), interest paid by borrowers represents the struggle of MFI to overcome the burden of expenses and achieve financial sustainability. The latter however, can be reached by altering the capital structure of MFI through diversification of source of funding or rejection of capital which can lead to malfunction. As soon as the changes are implemented, institutions can proceed to expansion reaching increasing return to scale and beneficially affecting sustainability. This essay would focus on the role on subsidies in performance of MFI. The rationale behind exploring this form of noncommercial capital is that total amount of subsidized capital in MFI reached almost 16 billion in 2009 (Bloomberg, 2012) posing a question regarding the alternative and probably more efficient use of respective funds to support poor. Both songs hold some similarities, most notably in the composition of the instruments, along with some conventions seen in the genre. Yet, strong differences can be found in the vocals, lyrics and general tone of the songs, showing the separation between two rising subcultures in England. Although very similar in composition, the two bands display the growing rift between the mods and the rockers those who preferred the clean cut look and music inspired by the blues, and those who preferred the rebellious nature of a harder rock and roll. Both songs display a very similar make up as far as the band and instruments of choice. The core consists of two guitars, one for lead, and the other for helping maintain rhythm, a bass guitar and drums along with vocals. The difference here is seen in the instruments used to follow the beat. The Beatles utilized hand clapping in the background, standing out distinctly from the drums during a verse, and dissipating as the chorus starts. A good example of this can be heard at 0:07, running until 0:21 as the chorus leads in. Teaching-Learning Based Optimization Algorithm Teaching−Learning Based Optimization Algorithm TLBO is a recently proposed meta heuristic that imitates a successful and dynamic educational strategy in a classroom [29 31]. Similar to most evolutionary algorithms, TLBO is a population based algorithm. The population consists of some students and a teacher. The teacher is the most knowledgeable one in the population. The main advantage of this algorithm over other evolutionary algorithms is that TLBO has no adjustable parameters, so there is no need to design a tuning mechanism for the parameters. The educational strategy of this algorithm includes both direct and interactive instruction. Actually, not only can the students be affected by their teacher, but also they can affect each other. TLBO algorithm can be divided into two phases: 1 Teaching phase (direct instruction) 2 Learning phase (interactive instruction). In the teaching phase, the teacher provides information for all the students and the students learn from their teacher, while in the learning phase they can learn from each other and develop their skills. The pseudo code of the proposed TLBO algorithm is shown in Figure 1. Teaching phase The best member is selected as the teacher in each iteration. The teacher trains his/her students. Socrates was put on trial for what Athens called corrupting young people because he was so influential in his teaching about the examined life. He was remarkably passionate about philosophy believing that the unexamined life is not worth living and that he would rather die than give up his beliefs. However, the examined life is not sufficient for living a morally worthwhile life. 2. To live a morally worthwhile life you need to know what is right and what is wrong. A commonly accepted meaning or synonym of right is what is morally correct. A generally acknowledged meaning or synonym of wrong is unjust or immoral. 3. Defendant s competence is measured in terms of their rationalism and a competency evaluation. A rational defendant is one who understands the penalties, courtroom proceedings and can consult with their lawyer or attorney. This requirement ensures a defendant can participate in their own defense, hence a rational defendant should be subject to standard sentencing procedures. It would be unconstitutional and immoral for an individual who lacks the ability to understand, communicate and make rational decision to undergo standard procedures of sentencing. Instead, incompetent defendants should be restrained in mental hospitals to serve their punishment ( Competence to Stand Trial, n.d). The Apple iPhone is credited with creating one of the most robust, extensive supply chain ecosystems globally today, fueling nearly $7B to $10B in ancillary products and services. Paradoxically even the success of the iPhone has done little to increase U.S. exports. Startlingly the Apple iPhone s success, according to a recent study, has actually fueled an even greater deficit in the U.S., making a significant contribution to the $1.9B deficit with China (Xing, Detert, 2011). This counterintuitive finding from the analysis of the researchers suggest that transaction velocity and supply chain coordination across global networks increase export surpluses not of the nation who company built the product, but the one that builds it (Xing, Detert, 2011). Analysis The pace of new product introductions combined with the exceptionally rapid growth of global supply chains and their performance have paradoxically put the United States in an ever more dependent condition with China and other trading partners. This in turn has created a high level of dependency on pricing and availability factors of production, which from an import and export standpoint, favor China significantly over the U.S. (Xing, Detert, 2011). While at the same time, I would be so drawn and pleased with those who understood my struggle and tried to educate me. To me, part of my childhood was certainly an amazing experience. I mean I lived in a Caribbean country where I felt free to play and enjoy life at any time. Then I migrated with my parents to the United States and I felt like I was segregated from my own people because of my language barrier. It is so interesting how much a single move can in a sense traumatize the brain of a child. Even though I am exceptionally pleased with the arrangements taken by my parents to move us here, in order to give us a brighter future. I felt very disconnected and confused as to why I had to encounter such a harsh period, when I was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Illegal and Unethical Activities of Bernard Lawrence... Bernard Lawrence Madoff, a former chairman of the NASDAQ Stock Market and founder of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, was one of the few NASDAQ market makers who competed with the New York Stock Exchange, by trading stocks listed on the Big Board. Through the Cincinnati exchange, the Madoff was a pioneer in electronic trading and publicly spoke of the need to use technology to transform the inefficient and sometimes shady over the counter stock market (Monica Gagnier, 2008). But Madoff became famous for a very different reason on December 10, 2008 when Madoff s sons told authorities that their father had confessed to them that the asset management unit of his firm was a massive Ponzi scheme. On March 12, 2009, Madoff pleaded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I know, I myself, if I was investing 5 million to Madoff who supposedly told me he could earn an unusually higher return on my money than other investors, I would want to know exactly how he was doing it. A financial risk manager might have been able to stop this from even happening. They might have seen that Madoff s investment company was making substantial returns that were significantly higher than everyone else in the same market, and was doing it consistently year after year, then they might have saw that something just didn t add up. 4. Describe three ways private investors might have better protected themselves from risk. It is an easy job to find thousands of financial agencies who are ready to serve clients high benefits on their investments, but it s a tougher job to sort out the reputed and reliable ones among them. So before investing their hard earned money, they should survey the market first to know the agency s reputation. After doing their research they should better protect themselves by: 1.Using a Certified Financial Planner which have more training than others and must adhere to a strict Code of Ethics mandated by the Financial Planning Association. 2. • 45. David Snow Psychological Theory A psychological theory that can contribute to the explanation of David Snow and why he murdered and sexually assaulted individuals would be Freud s psychoanalytic theory. According to Freud, one is more likely to abide criminal behaviour when there is disruption during childhood psychosexual development (Brookman, 2005a). In addition to development interruption, having a weak conscious will coincide with the likelihood of criminal behaviour (Brookman, 2005a). The mind is comprised of the Id, Ego and Superego, and when there is a conflict of these three efforts to make decisions results in a weaker ability to make sufficient judgement (Brookman, 2005a). The Ego is supposed to reflect adequate judgement through learning upon poor urges that lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of his signatures that was consistent and found through his victims and at the cottages were bondage and strangulation, and his military writings. These type of M.O. s do not occur very frequently as a tactic for death which eventually lead to the connection from Vancouver to Ontario. For example, strangulation only occurs in 38.6% of killings (Fox Levin, 2015) and the use of gags or blindfolds being 7.1% (Beauregard Martineau, 2012). It is also noteworthy Snow was described to be a very organized individual, which increases the likelihood of moving the victim s body after the crime (Beauregard Martineau, 2012), which was evident in the Blackburns deaths. Although these characteristics are uncommon, police were able to utilize his M.O. to determine links between the crimes and assisted in the identification of David Snow. Snow s victim s of the double murder were acquaintances as they were connected from Snow going to the Blackburn s farm to get items for his antique shop. According to Decker s article Exploring Victim offender Relationships in Homicide, approximately 46% of homicides are involved with acquaintances (Decker, 1993). As Snow escalated and the weekly victims occurred there was no evidence of knowing his victims, they were simply in a vulnerable position which he took advantage of. This discrepancy of victim ... • 46. Oxidative Coupling Of Alkyne Lab Report Oxidative coupling of alkynes using the Glaser Eglinton Hay reaction CH203 02 Fadwa Mekkaoui Introduction/Procedure: Oxidative coupling of alkynes is a method in which an oxidizing agent is used to eliminate a hydrogen from an alkene, causing a carbon carbon bond to be made. A catalyst is used in order to speed up a reaction by lowering the activation energy. The solvent used is 2 proponal and a chelating reagent, tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA), is used to help CuCl dissolve in solvent. The experiment uses techniques such as recrystallization, TLC, and infrared spectroscopy. This experiment is incredibly green, since air is used as an oxygen resource and has no cost. CuCl is used a catalyst and a green solvent, 2 propanol, is also used as a reaction medium which is a greener solvent. Results/Discussion: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The crystals had a slightly green tint until they were properly washed with distilled water. A TLC was run using the starting material and rxn. The product was massed and a melting point was determined. The range for the meting point was given to be (174° 176°C) and the value obtained for the product was a melting point of 177°C. This proved that our product was rather pure since it is one degree outside the range. • 47. Qualitative Research And Quantitative Research Qualitative research and Quantitative research Qualitative research Defilation Qualitative research is a method used in different academic disciplines, generally in social science, but also in research and further contexts. Qualitative researchers aim to attain detailed understanding of human behavior rand the reasons that govern such behavior. The qualitative method investigates the why and how of decision making, not just what, where, when. Hence, smaller but focused mainly on samples are more often used than large samples. In the conventional view, qualitative methods produce information only on the particular cases studied, and any more general conclusions are only propositions (informed assertions). Quantitative methods can then be used to seek empirical support for such research hypotheses. Introduction There is a current dispute between qualitative and quantitative research methods. It is an international acuminous and there are elements of state sponsored sp0rt in the west for a return to kind of neopositivist quantitative inquiry.(stronach 2006; 758) Qualitative research becoming more and more accepted in all world as a way of research. The reason behind is that, qualitative research give us a large general surface picture plus qualitative research give us in depth picture and both pictures are probably valuable as compare to hd documents. Qualitative researchers are caught in the middle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Influence Of Puritans In New England Puritanism a product of the protestant reformation was founded on the belief that only those who have felt the presence of god should be given church membership. The Puritans beliefs strongly conflicted with the religious systems of England, causing them to search for a new home. The Pilgrims, being some of the first to leave England, traveled to holland for a 12 span and then eventually docked at Plymouth Bay in New England. Being outside of the Virginia Company s territory their permission to settle was void, but settle they did. Following the pilgrims lead, in 1630 close to one thousand puritans sailed the Atlantic to escape persecution and settle in the new world.
