Jordan served as the lead pastor at Northwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City from 1982 1996
(ohbc.org). The members of the BGCO have been very positive about the way Dr. Jordan leads and
structures the convention. In the rest of this paper, I will inform you of how Dr. Jordan handles ethical
dilemmas, how the convention is structured and the culture surrounding it, and the leadership style and

Reflection On Human Relations
I started this class as an assistant manager for a restaurant which comes with human relations in every
aspect possible. After assesing my human relations abilities and skills in the beginning of the course
my three strengths were first, understanding how personality and perception affect peoples behavior,
human relations, and performance. It is very easy for me to understand how personality affect people
in everything that they do. I able to recognize that no one is the same. We all have different attitudes,
different personal lives, different views and just because we are not all the same doesn t mean we can t
still be respectful to one another or put ourselves in someone else s shoes. I work with all different
kinds of people whom all have different kind of personalities that all bring different attitudes; but I
have taken the time to understand them and get to know them so if I see someone flustered I know if
they need help or if I m hovering. I can feel when things get edgy in the work place and sometimes we
get cranky in the middle of a busy day, but at the end of the day we are all still one big happy
dysfunctional work family that come with many different skills in order to deal with such a wide
variety of personality. second, knowing to open conversations to get people to give me career
assistance. At first I used to hate to ask for assistance because I didn t like feeling as if a question I had
was stupid or not. Now if I can t learn something on my own I am more than happy to ask for
assistance because not only does it show an interest in learning something new, but to ask a certain
individual and make them feel good that I thought of them to ask for assistance makes it a happy
learning experience. Lastly understanding how to resolve conflicts in a way that does not hurt
relationships. whether the conflict is with me and someone else or between my employees I always
like to make sure that by the end of the situation we are all on the same page and that whatever
situation is we can fix it. About a year ago I had a situation with a coworker and I can t remember
what she said, but I had been flustered about something so when she had said something to me my
response was a little rude and she kind of

Gerald A. Sandusky Case Summary
When a case comes to the court that involves children or cases of child abuse, especially sexual abuse.
It becomes a tug of war debate between those that support harsher punishments to deter such a
horrendous crime as sexually abusing children, and those that support the idea that it is a illness that
requires medical treatment on the biological or psychological level. Then there is also the call for how
ethical it is to punish rather than treat such criminals.
In regards to the Gerald A. Sandusky case, which began in June 11th 2012 and ended on October 9th
2012. We are presented with a case where an individual was given unlimited access to young boys of
all ages, some from poor and underprivileged backgrounds. Of the 52 charges Mr. Sandusky received,
4 charges were initially dropped, leaving 48. On June 22, 2012, Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts
of sexual abuse. Sandusky was sentenced on October 9, 2012, to a minimum of 30 years and a
maximum of 60 years in prison (Klein, Tolson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sandusky s case his actions of grooming, planning, using threats etc, show him to be a man who has
understanding of his actions and crimes, where others who put less thought and are much more rash
do not, tho neither criminal is absolved based on how well they hid their crimes. Sexual abuse of a
child with any method is a horrendous crime.
Is it ethical then to punish people who commit sexual abuse against children? Or should our approach
be treatment not punishment? This is an age old debate, while there have been attempts to treat the
disease of pedophilia, there are exceptions to this treatment whom despite it do reoffend. Counseling,
monitoring, medicating, and even chemical castration are some ways our society has developed to
treat the biological and psychological side of the argument

Hitler s Story Essay
Hitler s Story
Hitler became chancellor in January 1933. At this stage he was not the dictator of Germany. The night
of the long knives helped him to establish his dictatorship. However, there were other aspects, which
helped him extend his control.
As soon as Hitler was in power, new elections were called. In the middle of the Reichstag campaign,
the Reichstag building went up in flames. It was this, which allowed Hitler to increase his control over
Germany.
On 27th February the Reichstag caught fire. When they police arrived they found Marinus van der
Lubbe on the premises. He confessed to starting the Reichstag Fire. However he denies that he was
part of a Communist conspiracy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And effectively allow him to establish a dictatorship. The Nationalists were prepared to support him in
this, but even then Hitler wouldn t have the two thirds of the votes needed. After he got his enabling
act, the Reichstag had in effect voted itself out of existence. It had voted to introduce a Nazi
dictatorship.
Now that Hitler had dictorial powers, he proceeded to extend his control further. Hitler banned
political parties. This law gave Hitler what he wanted a ban on the Communists and Socialists taking
part in an election campaign. The leaders from both parties were arrested and their newspapers were
shut down. To keep the peace and maintain law and order, the roamed the streets beating up those who
openly opposed Hitler. Hitler solemnly promised that the laws would only be used for emergencies,
but within months Germany s trade unions. Were also banned.
By 1934, there was only one major organisation not under Hitler s control. And that was the Army.
The army leadership were supported by big businesses. The army was totally opposed to being taken
over by the SA and was very suspicious of Ernst Rohm. The SA was a

Downtown Massillon
On October 14 I attended a New Wave concert in Downtown Massillon. This concert was actually
apart of a larger event called the Massillon Zombie Walk which is held once a year. Most everyone
dressed as a zombie. There was even a man who dressed as a Soviet spy zombie who made my night.
He walked down the sidewalk with an accordion, a hammer and sickle pin, and a giant fur hat. Other
zombies swarmed around him as I realized that I m pretty lucky to live in an area that treasures local
gatherings and celebrations.
The night began with a Thriller performance in front of the Massillon public library. About 20 or so
people performed the iconic dance as Michael Jackson s audio was played. The people who performed
managed to do a really good job recreating the dance moves we all know so well and they looked like
they had fun. The party moved down to the street beside the Massillon Museum where the stage was
waiting. After we arrived New Wave Nation ran onto the stage and performed Thriller again. Sadly the
lead singer of this band could not match MJ s awesome chops. It was cringe. All the high notes
sounded fuzzy and strained. The tempo seemed too slow. There was a tv screen behind them that
actually played the music video which managed to make their dancers incompetent. Weird sound
effects were added to the end of phrases and instruments were played along with the original audio.
I hoped with all my heart that they just hadn t warmed up, that it would get better but this was not

Analysis Of The Film The Prince Of Egypt
The Film, The Prince of Egypt is a not a very accurate copy when compared to the story of exodus
from the Bible. The 1998 Dreamworks production The Prince of Egypt was created to follow the
remarkable story of Moses, Leading his people from slavery but was changed by the directors to give
it some originality. The setting, the characters and the storylines are some of the things that have been
changed in the animated story. Therefore the Dreamworks Pictures film is inaccurate and does not
flow along the same page as the Biblical story of Exodus.
Firstly, when compared, The settings In the Dreamworks production differ from the ones in the
Biblical account. The directors have made this change to add some excitement to some of the settings.
The way how the Nile has been portrayed in the movie, Vary from the Bible because the Bible tells us
that Moses had been placed in a basket among some reeds, But in the movie, Moses gets placed in the
basket and the Nile takes him away. He just misses all kinds of dangers, From hippos and crocodiles
to the Egyptian fishing nets. The reason the director did this massive change was to make the scene
more exciting and to capture the audience. The Burning bush s description is different in the Bible
than how it is portrayed in the movie. In the Bible, the burning bush is on top of a mountain called
Horeb but In the movie it is in a cave where God calls to him. The director did this because he wanted
to make the scene more scary and

Intex Above-Ground Pool Research Paper
Where you live impacts the winter fate of your Intex above ground pool. If you live in an area with
mild winters, you can winterize the pool and cover it for the season. If, however, you live in an area
where freezing occurs, you ll have to drain your Intex pool and take it down for the winter. Luckily,
these pools are some of the easiest above ground pools to collapse and store.
Complete Removal
Take the ladder, pool pump, filter and all related hoses out of your pool. Clean them all and allow
them to dry thoroughly.
Locate the pool s drain valve. Remove the drain cover and attach your garden hose to the drain. Allow
all of the water to drain from the pool, making sure that your hose directs the water to a legal and
acceptable location. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it is completely dry, roll your pool liner up.
Carefully disassemble the pool s metal frame. Store it and all the other pool components in an area
that will stay between 40 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Winterization
Shock your pool about a week before closing it. This cleans the water and gives the chlorine level time
to drop back down to the desired 1 to 3 ppm. If your chlorine level is too high when you close your
pool the chlorine will prevent the algaecide you ll be adding later from working.
Clean the pool of all debris, dust and algae. Use the vacuum and the net to remove all contaminants
from the pool.
Test your pool water and adjust the water chemistry as needed to reach a pH level between 7.2 and
7.8. Adjust your pool s total alkalinity to a range of 100 to 150 ppm.
Add a water clarifier as well as an algaecide to your pool. Run the pool pump for one day to
thoroughly circulate these added chemicals.
Pool stores sell winterization kits that include all the chemicals you need to add to your pool for
winter. You can purchase one of these kits and follow the instructions to make closing your pool even

When Associate Justice Antonin Scalia perished in Texas from natural causes, the focus was on the

20th Century Gangs Research Paper
Since the 1800 s gangs as we all know have a history in the United States. The United States became a
melting pot during this time as people of many ethnicities and religions entered the United States.
Many of the new immigrants joined gangs in order to gain a group identity, protect themselves against
other rival groups both immigrant based and natural born citizens, and build a unified presence. The
five corners in new York city is a prime example of immigrant based gangs just trying to protect
themselves and gain identity in the new world. Even though the street gangs of the 19th century were
widely feared by other citizens and rival gangs, they don t hold a candle to the threat that the gangs we
have today to the safety of society.
The delinquent activities of the street gangs of the early 20th century involved petty crimes and
fighting with their rival gangs. By the end of the 20th Century gangs had became involved in more
heinous crimes. By that time law enforcement officials had come ... Show more content on

After that time, however, gangs spread to smaller areas. It is true that the larger the population, the

all cities with a population of 2,500 to 49,999, and 15% of rural counties reported gang problems in
their jurisdictions that year. The huge growth in gangs and gang membership slowed during the late
1990s 27,900 gangs with 774,000 gang members were active in the United States in 2008. Even
though small cities and rural counties saw a decrease in gangs between 2007 and 2008, all
jurisdictions saw an increase in gangs and gang members between 2002 and

Emily Grierson From A Rose For A Rose For Emily
Judith Fetterley argued in her critical essay that Emily Grierson from a Rose for A Rose for Emily was
empowered and victimized by her gender and class. However the girl from Boys and Girls and
Gertrude from Hamlet had not been as lucky as Miss Emily. In a Rose for A Rose for Emily Emily
Grierson was the daughter of Mr. Grierson, who was a respected man in Jefferson. After his death
Miss Emily still conserved her title of a lady even if all the town folks knew that she didn t have
money left. Miss Emily took advantage of the fact that she was a lady to not pay the tax to the new
town leaders by saying that she was exempted of taxes by the previous mayor of the town. She knew
that the town people would not bother to ask her to pay the taxes that she legally had to pay as her
father was dead and they were concerned about Miss Emily s mental health, but it was mostly because
Emily Grierson was a lady and it would be considered disrespectful to force a woman of this status to
settle her debt. Moreover, the town folks were complaining about a powerful odor emanating from her
house. The Judge Stevens present at that time estimated that it was very inconvenient to mention to a
woman of this rank that her house smells bad. So he decided that a few men from town would sneak in
Miss Emily s house to spread lime around the Griersons property. Even this time the town people
could not confront Miss Emily for her acts. When she started dating a northern man named Homer
Barron,

How Did Mother Teresa Influence The Missionaries Of Charity
When I think of great people who have helped others worldwide, many people come into my thoughts.
However, one person stands out from the rest for me: Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa was a very
influential person who went above her call of duty by helping people and forming the Missionaries of
Charity.
The Catholic Church has helped many people who are in need that would have died if they did not
help. In general, millions of Christians and Catholics all around the world help many people who need
help in many things. Catholic communities worldwide help people almost everywhere, making the
Catholic Church s influence in people s lives very large. The Catholic Church, in general, will always
go outside the normal boundaries to help those in need. Catholic saints, such as St. Francis of Assisi,
St. Vincent de Paul, and most recently, St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, are great examples of this.

be condemned in multiple ways. She died on September 5, 1997, in Calcutta, due to her poor state of
health. The Missionaries of Charity eventually became an international organization and still

Alaska Airlines Competitive Advantage

University MGMT 211 Introduction to Information Management Systems Professor. Shane P. Lauber
21 October 2017 Alaska Airlines has managed to remain in the green as other airlines seem to be
suffering in a market space that sees fierce competition. According to Sam Matthews of the Business
Insider Alaska Airlines (ALK) grew its revenue at a compound annual growth rate (or CAGR) of 7%
in 2010 2014. The airline had total revenues in 2010 of $3,832 million, which grew to $5,368 million
in 2014 (Alaska Airlines Historical Revenue and Earnings Growth, 2015). How is it possible that an
airline that operates on a relatively small scale, 880 flights per day, compared to its competitors such
as Delta, 15,000 flights per day, is able to be so competitive and continue to increase its revenue
(Alaska Airlines company facts, 2016), (Corporate Stats and Facts, 2017)? Here is where the
deployment and utilization of Information Technology (IT) enters into the picture. Alaska Airline is
well known throughout the airline industry for their innovations in technology, safety and customer
satisfaction. According to Alaska Airlines company timeline, In 1995, we were the first U.S. airline to

The Ibo Culture Of Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Cultures each have their own set of beliefs and morals and quite often these beliefs and morals vary
greatly between each culture. Commonly, a culture has its own rules for women. The Ibo culture of
Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart is one that gives its women power. They get their power through
their roles as mothers and their contributions to their religion. Great power is also given to the women
through the parts they play in agriculture for the clan. The women in Ibo society are misunderstood
when their own African culture is compared to modern Western culture. The power given to the Ibo
women, in the form of motherhood, is often overlooked due to the comparison, whereas by the Ibo,
women are viewed as the foundation of the clan and its people (Hiatt). The women play educator in
the Ibo villages. They pass on the morals, beliefs, and stories of the clan. This means that the women
are pivotal to the literal survival of the community and social norms (Strong Leek). It would be true to
say that women in Western society also have this power; however, the power is not to the same degree.
The Ibo women are viewed mainly as child bearers (Strong Leek), therefore the Ibo children spend
nearly all of their early childhood moments with their mothers. The lack of significant outside
interaction means that these mothers control nearly all aspects of their children s development. The
mothers share stories that teach important lessons about the human condition (Hiatt) which

The Benefits Of Learning Computers And Computer Science
One way in which computers and computer science has become so widespread is due to it being easy
to learn and integrate into schools. The basics of computer science can be learned fairly quickly as the
majority of computer programming is simple logic. It is so easy to learn that in Tennessee schools
have begun teaching student the basics of computer programming as early as the third grade. This just
goes to show how learning computer programming can be just as easily taught as basic maths and
sciences. Computer programming does not need to be limited to its own subject. In Tennessee
computer programming has been integrated into both its science and maths classes. Through a
simulation software called ViMap, third and fourth grade teachers were able to teach a class on how
butterflies adjust their behavior depending on their recent food consumption. This shows that adults as
well as children are able to learn and use computer programming skills in order to benefit their lives.
The benefits of learning computer programming are not limited to using computer programming itself.
Another reason learning computer programming can be beneficial is the way computer programming
forces someone to think. Jeannette M. Wing, a consulting professor of computer science at Carnegie
Mellon University and a corporate vice president of Microsoft Research believes that computational
thinking is a fundamental skill every person should have. Computational thinking

The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising In The Holocaust
Uprising in the Ghetto The Holocaust is a very known event. The Holocaust was the genocide of Jews
by the German Nazi Party. The Holocaust lasted from 1941 1945. One significance at this time period
was the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising that began on April 19, 1943. German soldiers, along with German
police officers, went into the ghettos to deport any remaining inhabitants ( Warsaw Ghetto Uprising ).
Although the Hitler and the Nazi Party felt like deporting Jews from their homes was right, the people
of the Warsaw Ghettos was not going down without a fight. Events led to the uprising, and many
events occurred during the uprising, but this was still a horrific period and no one should have to
experience what the Jews of Warsaw experienced. The same way every story has a conflict and rising
action, so does the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. This uprising happened during the middle of the
Holocaust. The conflict was that Jews were being deported to labor and concentration camps. The
rising actions would be that Jews formed organizations called the Żydowska Organizacja Bojowa
(ŻOB) and the Żydowski Związek Wojskowy (ŻZW) (Bell). The Jews of Warsaw began preparing
themselves for the uprising by obtaining weapons from the Polish underground, Jews in London, and
the United States (Bell). They smuggled goods into the ghettos and taught women and children how to
shoot guns (Bell). They stored food and made underground hideouts. We collected mattresses and

Storytelling In Storytelling
Besides art based on nature, storytelling is the heart of Waldorf education. Children under seven years
are introduced to fairy tales and nature stories. As they progress to an elementary stage, they are
introduced to folk fairy tales where they learn about diverse cultures, fables which teaches them moral
values, and folk fairy tales about ancient times and historical events These stories form the basis of
basic education.
As identified earlier, Waldorf education emphasizes developmental learning. Children are not
introduced to formal learning until elementary class at age 6 7. Pre school pedagogy emphasizes
imagination and imitation of practical activities. The imitation approach aims at informing the child of
the notion that the world is a perfect place (Ullrich, 2014). Thus, the educational approach emphasizes
holistic conduct, character, and personality among the teacher and the environment. Pre school
children are discouraged from using technology until elementary with the belief that it conflicts with
the developmental process of a child (Woods and Glenys, 2006). At this developmental stage, children
are using their power of imagination to learn and technology such as Television can expose them to
unhealthy content. Besides formal learning, early stages of elementary curriculum continue to nurture
imagination. Formal learning involves reading, writing, artwork, and handwork. The academic
subjects in elementary grades are introduced through storytelling.

game, allowing only one unearned run. The Jays lead 1 0 and Gerrit Cole is up next to bat. The
question then for General Manager, Clint Hurdle, is whether to pinch hit for him in exchange for a
better hitter, or to leave him in the game so he can continue to pitch. If only there was a way to keep

What it comes down to is the difference between the need to do something and the option to do
something. None other than Bill James, a widely known baseball writer, noted that the perceived
strategy is actually very trite, predictable, and actually nonstrategic. Instead of manager s deciding on
what substitution, or lack thereof, can give their team an advantage, they are forced with situations in
which they must bunt, must pinch hit, and must double switch. As James notes, the American League
game allows a true option, and thus true strategy. This means that whatever AL managers decide to do
when it comes to offensive batting substitutions, they do so to benefit their team, not because they are
forced to do so (Meehan, 2013). These substitutions, including the commonly used double switch
where a pinch hitter is substituted for the pitcher and the next inning is substituted again for a relief
pitcher, take up time in the game. It is significantly a problem in the MLB where the longevity and the
slow pace of the game has caused many fans to get bored sitting through a full nine innings.
Especially with the addition of instant replay, the game continues to get longer and it has become a
challenge for many fans to watch an entire game. Brian Costa, sports reporter for the Wall Street
Journal, wrote an article about the reasons for the length and slow pace of the game. He mentions that
it has become normal for fans to complain about hitters stepping out of the batter s box, pitchers
pacing around the mound and pitching changes. Red Sox Chief Operating Officer Sam Kennedy even
states that this problem is one of the most critical issues facing baseball as we move forward into the
next three, five, seven years (Costa, 2014). Joe Sheehan also wrote an article about the increasing

The Correlation of Starbucks Organizational Culture to Management s Competency
In order to establish the correlation between Starbucks organizational culture and its management s
competency, it is imperative to fully comprehend what is meant by a key management competency
and precisely what it may entail. Through studying management and its characteristics as defined by
those considered experts in the subject matter, I have found that there are typically four primary
management competencies that are usually identified as core competencies. Those management skills
are conceptual, interpersonal, technical and political (Robbins, DeCenzo, Coulter, 2015, p. 11). At a
high level, these management competencies require one to have the skillset to evaluate and make a
clear diagnosis of a situation, have the ability to professionally work well with others, have a great
depth of knowledge and expertise in reference to their specific job area and also have the skillset to
establish and foster relationships essential for professional growth, internally and externally.
In selecting one of these management competencies that a successful manager at Starbucks would
possess and is also considered a good fit for that organizational culture, I

Essay What is the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
The polymerase chain reaction or PCR for short can be used to create many copies of DNA. This
allows the DNA to then be visualized using a dye like ethidium bromide after gel electrophoresis. The
process has been refined over the years, however the basic steps are similar.
The first is to denature dsDNA through heating to ~96 °C. This separates the two strands of DNA. The
exact temperature to be used can be calculated with Tm = 4oC x (no. of G C) + 2oC x (no. of A T).
Tm is the melting point of the strands and to supply the number of G, C, A, T s the primer is used.
Annealing of primers is then possible when the temperature cools down to 37 65 °C.
Extension from these primers can be done through the use of heat stable (has to ... Show more content

However it is a known carcinogen and therefore alternatives have been developed. These, for instance
gelred, can be used without the use of UV lighting. However they are often a lot more expensive.
A general issue is that PCR techniques can be very sensitive; any contamination can be amplified.
This in combination with the improvements in technique seen over the last few years can mean that
for instance in forensics, extensive care needs to be taken when handling samples to prevent
contamination. The interpretation of results can also prove tricky for levels of contamination (or DNA
that was there due to circumstances unrelated to the crime) that may not have been noticeable with
earlier techniques can point the blame to someone who was in fact innocent.
However forensics is not the only area that has been advanced by PCR techniques. Diseases diagnosis
can be made much more accurately and quickly. The diagnosis however is not just limited to
infectious diseases caused by bacteria, tumours can also be analysed. Therefore it may become
apparent if it is the result of a general genetic abnormality or simply an untimely mutation. Viruses
similarly can be detected if someone is infected, along with the viral load; this allows disease
progression to be monitored.
Genetic mutations are important for tracking disease abnormalities and if there are any causal links
between unsuspecting genes and diseases. Not

for permission of the King of Tokin so France could spread their Christianity in Vietnam. But the King
of Tokin denied the permission because in Vietnam there existed an ancient religion. The historian
needs to ask questions about these documents to make sure that they are not biased or wrote on
different perspectives. For example, they should ask to the King of Tokin how important is for his
people their religion? This question reflects on the reason behind his denied to convert into
Christianity. Another question that a historian may ask to the King

Dare Case Study
#1 1. The previous research given makes it seem doubtful that the DARE program is working. I
understand it s useful to have both sides in an article, but the evidence done over a 10 year span. That
makes the current study look pointless to do, because we can always develop new programs if the
current one such as DARE is not working.
2. The return rate of the surveys is surprisingly low. This is not adequate information, because the
people who returned the surveys are mostly likely on opposite spectrums. The parents either really
like the DARE program or hate it. Considering the program is about stopping children from using
drugs, it s probably parents who really liked the program returned the survey. Another point to bring
up is that these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do not think the reading comprehension test was adequate, since it was only a 10 item test. Quizzes
can be helpful to show how students are performing, but that does not represent a multi chapter exam.
A 50 question exam would better represent not only the students comprehension of the material but
their ability apply it and remember it.
5. I thought the researchers use of multiple scales was very helpful to provide more evidence. In
psychology, we are testing for ideas or concepts that are not observable. It s important to rely on more
than one type of research to capture these changes in scores or perception. It also gave the study a
higher chance of showing a significant difference.
6. The absence of a control group is a crucial downfall. There is no comparison that can be done
between the groups. The researchers could have at least included compared scores of a neighboring
school for reference. Although this is a research article, the lack of a control group makes this not a

How Organisms Evolved From a Common Ancestors
One of the most important principles of biology is the main idea of evolution. This theory states, that
all living organisms have evolved from a common ancestor through natural selection acting on
hereditary variation (Reece, 2011). Many people today, know humans have evolved from a common
ancestor; but they do not recognize the importance of it. Everyone should be educated about how
organisms evolved because humans have evolved throughout many centuries. Charles Darwin had
many theories that incorporated the main principle of biology, natural selection and evolution. Darwin
explained natural selection as an evolutionary change where organisms that become more adapted to
their environment will survive better than those who do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While Darwin was on his voyage, the Beagle, he noticed that different organisms and things vary in
characteristics and their adaptations to different environments.
While Darwin was studying natural selection, he noticed that different species would have to compete
for survival allowing some species to have different characteristics that help them survive and produce
more offspring. These offspring traits are passed down from their parents, and it will help them
become more successful in their need for survival (College, 2009). Darwin had to prove natural
selection existed and how traits are passed down to offspring. He did this by the process of Pangenesis
(College, 2009). Pangenesis is when each organ in the body has certain particles called gemmules. The
gemmules, contain information of how each organ works; they are eventually released to the
reproductive organs (College, 2009). They are passed down to the offspring from the reproductive
organs. Today, Darwin s theory is well supported because of DNA and fossil records. Charles Darwin
spend most of his life focused on the theory of natural selection and evolution. This theory states that
all living organisms evolved from a common ancestor (Reece, 2011). Many people know

Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven Essay
An Analysis of Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
Death. A strong topic, frequently but solemnly discussed. However, when I read Edgar Allan Poe s
The Raven , I was immediately captivated by the new angle brought to my attention regarding death.
While the topic of death is usually associated with either sympathy or horror, Poe succeeded in
portraying a feeling caught between the two; and at the same time bringing forth new feelings I would
never thought to consider regarding death. These feelings reflect a sorrow so deep into a psychological
madness, a feeling that the pain death brings has ruined one forever. After analyzing this poem I came
to the conclusion that Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven demonstrates that the sorrow the death of a loved
one brings will stay with you forever. Poe communicated this theme through abstract language , tone,
and allusion.
The opening lines of The Raven identify the speaker as someone who feels tired and weak but is still
awake in the middle of a gloomy night. He passes the time by reading a strange book of ancient
knowledge. The first line of the poem contains alliteration of w in while, weak, and weary to produce
the effect of unsteadiness. This line also sets the poem s rhythmical pattern and provides the first
example of the use of internal rhyme in dreary and weary. The speaker tells of becoming more tired
and beginning to doze but being wakened by a sound that he assumes is a quiet knock. Internal rhymes
of napping, tapping,

The Assassination Of Jimmy Hoffa
During his career, He made more enemies. Hoffa was known to be one of the most powerful men in
the country at the time and still. Of course because of his union leadership, many working Americans
considered Hoffa as their hero. But it is believed that one of his enemies may have had something to
do with his disappearance in 1975. During that year on July 30th. Hoffa left Detroit for a meeting with
a local crime figure and a mob connected union leader that was from New Jersey. The met at a
restaurant in Bloomfield Township. They met up so they could try settling a feud. But Hoffa was the
only person who showed up. The people don t know what happen to the Mob boss. But his car was
found in the restaurant s parking lot. But there also were no clues to Hoffa s whereabouts. Years later,
Hoffa was declared legally dead in 1982.
Since 1975, the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa has been a big subject of countless theories. Some
people say he was done in by organized crime or even government agents. Over the next years,
authorities have received leads as to the location of Hoffa s remains. But Hoffa s body has not yet
been recovered. But something came up in 2001 with DNA evidence that linked Hoffa to the vehicle
that was believed to use in his crime. Also in 2012, the latest lead led authorities to a Detroit home,
where a huge investigation failed to turn up any evidence. And there was another effort that was made
to find Hoffa s remains the following year. In June 2013, FBI agents

Overpopulation Speech
I. Attention getter: How many of you are tired of the extinction of species, overcrowded streets, and
low life rates in developing countries? As the United Nations, an organization which most countries
belong to that is supposed to encourage international peace and co operation , you want to help the
planet and the people that live on it right? ( Definition of United Nations , n.d.).
II. Reason to Listen: Well, this speech will be influencing you as The United Nations to make a
change in the world by investing in my solution of colonizing other planets which will help decrease
overpopulation.
III. Credibility statement: Researching solutions for overpopulation over the past month has extended
my knowledge on the topic and proven to me that planet colonization is the best solution out there.
IV. Thesis Statement: The United Nations could save humankind as we know it by understanding,
finding a solution, and knowing who else has worked on the solution to decrease overpopulation.
Body Paragraphs:
I. Before we get to our solution for overpopulation, it is important to understand it.
A. As the United Nations, you most likely know what overpopulation is, but I am here to tell you what
I know about the topic.
1. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, overpopulation is the condition of having a population so
dense as to cause environmental deterioration, an impaired quality of life, or a population crash (
Overpopulation, 2017).
2. Our human population is growing at a rate of approximately 78 million people a year ( Effects of
Human Overpopulation, 2013).
3. Overpopulation is happening because of the better medical facilities which equal more babies and
fewer deaths, and a lack of sexual education ( Effects of Human Overpopulation, 2013).
B. Because of the seven billion people on the planet ( Effects of Human Overpopulation, 2013), we
are forced to go through hardships.
1. Some of these hardships include less freedom, more restrictions, increased climate change, elevated
crime rate, and more ( Effects of Human Overpopulation, 2013).
2. With less freedom, people feel the need to rebel which can cause an elevation in crime rate. The less
freedom we have governments could give rise to a totalitarian

Prison Reform, We Need Change
Persuasive Essay: We Need Change In today s society, we re facing many changes. Our own family,
neighbors, and countrymen are afraid of many dangers that influence their lives. In America, we have
somewhat of a low crime rate as far as murders, having a rating of twenty four of sixty two countries.
Although our drug offense rate is number two of sixty two, in the categories of rape, assault, and
kidnapping, the United States tops at number one. We find ourselves asking, why? How did this nation
accumulate such high numbers of these crimes? We point our fingers to prisoners and those who are or
were convicted on the street. But we aren t considering how they got that way in the first place.

The environment in prison is so harsh, and sometimes life threatening, it makes it hard for a persons
mind to be taken off the idea of just surviving. When you place an inmate sentenced for a drug offense
in a cell next to someone sentenced for several murders, of course they re going to become self
defensive. This creates fear in the harmless inmate, causing self defense and that leads to violence. To
prevent anything from happening, prisoners resort to being accepted by gangs that s how the violence,
gambling, and trading rises and continues. A man by the name Michael Santos has been serving time,
in prisons of all levels of security, for almost twenty five years. Since 1995, he has found several
habits that will make a prisoner successful, and has been teaching many classes to other inmates. He
states this in an article he wrote, I lived this program and derived a sense of fulfillment in showing
others how such habits could enrich their lives, assist their prison adjustments, and prepare them to
emerge successfully. The habits he encouraged were: being proactive, begin with the end in mind, take
first steps first, seek first to understand then be understood, think win/win, synergize, and
continuously sharpen their approach. Successful inmates created their own opportunities for growth
through positive adjustments. They understand the importance of bringing meaning to their lives

Essay on The Situational Leadership Model
The Situational Leadership Model
Situational leadership is interplay between the amounts of direction that a leader allows in: 1) the
amount of directive (task) behavior and 2) the amount of relationship behavior (supportive behavior).
What this means is that when an individual first begins a new task they require a lot of direction and
managerial guidance. As they learn more about the task, the amount of direction decreases until they
can make many of the decisions with the manager providing little input. The situational leadership
model developed and refined by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard divides the model into four ... Show

THE FOUR LEADERSHIP STYLES
[IMAGE]
We begin in the lower right quadrant, S1 directing leadership style. This phase is where the new
employee or older employee learning a new task begins. The directing will require that the leader
define the roles of the follower. The leader initiates problem solving and decision making and directs
communication towards the follower. The leader will tell the follower what to do, how to do it, where
to do it, and when to do it. Close supervision is also involved at this point. The X axis beginning point
is to the extreme right (high directive) indicating that leader will be providing directions. The
rectangular object showing development levels is also to the extreme right but here it signifies that the
amount of learned knowledge (amount of development to perform task) is low. The beginner may
become enthusiastic about wanting to learn. They will probably be highly committed but competence
will be low. The Y axis is on the bottom end showing us that supportive behavior is at a low point.
The second quadrant is located in the upper right, S2 coaching leadership style. This phase is where
the leader listens to the follower, provides support and encourages the follower s efforts, and facilitates
involvement with problem solving and decision making. Communication flows between leader and
follower. The X axis beginning point is to the

Introduction The classic HR model
Over the last decade a classic model, based on the work of Dave Ulrich et al, has emerged that has
three elements (recently he has added to the model but these three remain the core). We don t need to
go into detail but we will simply highlight these three key elements: business partners, shared services
and centres of expertise: Business Partners Establish relationships with customers line/ business units

Drivers for change: Dissatisfaction in many organisations with HR s contribution to the restructurings
and mergers in the early 2000 s. Increasing disillusion with HR s contribution beyond following the
latest management fad. This disillusion has led to calls to reduce the cost of HR and to see harder
measures of outcomes, whilst increasing HR s flexibility and business focus. The move in many
businesses to outsource non core activities including HR whilst providing a stronger business
contribution by enhancing HR s contribution to strategic business initiatives. The change in
organisational models themselves that are trying to balance the need for centrally driven efficiencies
with locally driven responsiveness. This highlights the challenge of providing strong functional
expertise with the need to align with different business needs. A shift in the role of HR from being
employee focused to an organisational and management focus. The adoption of ERP systems
accelerated by legacy fears in the run up to Y2K and the use of these systems to improve and
systematise administrative and HR processes so they become more efficient and consistent whilst
linking seamlessly to the front office. As one commentator said: The human resources function within
companies today needs to look at itself much more as a business, because that is how executives are
looking at it and

Disengagement Theory Is The First Formal Theory Of Aging
Disengagement theory is the first formal theory of aging. It was first proposed in 1961 by Elaine
Cumming and William Hendry. They both were researchers from the University of Chicago. The two
developed their theory in their book Growing Old: The Process of Disengagement. In the book they
criticized the implicit theory that people can adjust, be satisfied, and happy in old age. They can also
be physically involved and remain active throughout their lives. Cumming and Henry argued that
normal aging involves a natural and inevitable mutual and inevitable mutual withdrawal or
disengagement, resulting in decreasing interaction between an aging person and others in the social
system he belongs to. Because of the inevitability of death, the society and the individual mutually
server their ties in advance so that the death of the individual will not be disruptive to the social
system. The disengagement theory results in decreasing interaction between aging person and social
system. Disagreement occurs when the individual becomes aware of the shortness of life and the
amount of time left. The individual wants to disengage by reducing the number of roles the individual
plays. One of the most controversial things about this theory would be that the idea of disengagement
was a universal meaning. Universal means it happens everywhere and in all historical areas.
Inevitable, means that it happens sometimes to everyone. Lastly, intrinsic is cause by biological
factors rather than

Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to find the order of t BB graphically, to find the k (rate

Principles: Several different chemical kinetic principles were used in this experiment. The reaction
rates of this chemical equation were determined experimentally. This then allowed the reaction
mechanisms (i.e. orders of each component, rate constant, etc.). These mechanisms were ultimately
determined to be compiled to form a rate law.

Flappers Chapter 1 Analysis
1.) In paragraph 13, the writer says that the flapper was as standardized as a chain hotel ; by what he
means is that the flappers were similar almost the same to one another, much like a chain hotel. He
generalizes flappers to be all the same and compares the flapper s dress to be a national product , as in
something that was the same throughout the country. There is no distinction in the cut of clothing
between the rich flapper and the poor flapper national advertising has attended to that. The rich flapper
has better clothing than the poor one, but a block away they are all flappers. The writer compares the

In the war, many young boys lost their lives; not long later after the war, a flu epidemic broke out in
the US killing millions of young men and women. After the tragedies, the youth began to celebrate
mortality, fun, money, and youth and the flappers did just that. Flappers were radical women who didn
t follow the conventional standards for women in the US in the 1920s and seeked personal liberty.
They rebelled against gender roles and did what was considered immoral for women and norms for
men; they drank alcohol, smoke cigarette, listened and danced to jazz music, flirted, and drove a car.
But most importantly, they made their own money. Though the original idea of flappers were poor
working girls who waited for someone to marry them, the standard quickly changed. Flappers became
women who wanted to make their own money and didn t want to marry man to support them. Flappers
appearance wise, iconically they had their hair short to a bob, wore short dresses (an inch above the
knee), wore makeup, and didn t wear corsets. Flappers were not only iconic in the roaring twenties,

  • 3. Reflection On Human Relations I started this class as an assistant manager for a restaurant which comes with human relations in every aspect possible. After assesing my human relations abilities and skills in the beginning of the course my three strengths were first, understanding how personality and perception affect peoples behavior, human relations, and performance. It is very easy for me to understand how personality affect people in everything that they do. I able to recognize that no one is the same. We all have different attitudes, different personal lives, different views and just because we are not all the same doesn t mean we can t still be respectful to one another or put ourselves in someone else s shoes. I work with all different kinds of people whom all have different kind of personalities that all bring different attitudes; but I have taken the time to understand them and get to know them so if I see someone flustered I know if they need help or if I m hovering. I can feel when things get edgy in the work place and sometimes we get cranky in the middle of a busy day, but at the end of the day we are all still one big happy dysfunctional work family that come with many different skills in order to deal with such a wide variety of personality. second, knowing to open conversations to get people to give me career assistance. At first I used to hate to ask for assistance because I didn t like feeling as if a question I had was stupid or not. Now if I can t learn something on my own I am more than happy to ask for assistance because not only does it show an interest in learning something new, but to ask a certain individual and make them feel good that I thought of them to ask for assistance makes it a happy learning experience. Lastly understanding how to resolve conflicts in a way that does not hurt relationships. whether the conflict is with me and someone else or between my employees I always like to make sure that by the end of the situation we are all on the same page and that whatever situation is we can fix it. About a year ago I had a situation with a coworker and I can t remember what she said, but I had been flustered about something so when she had said something to me my response was a little rude and she kind of ... • 4. Gerald A. Sandusky Case Summary When a case comes to the court that involves children or cases of child abuse, especially sexual abuse. It becomes a tug of war debate between those that support harsher punishments to deter such a horrendous crime as sexually abusing children, and those that support the idea that it is a illness that requires medical treatment on the biological or psychological level. Then there is also the call for how ethical it is to punish rather than treat such criminals. In regards to the Gerald A. Sandusky case, which began in June 11th 2012 and ended on October 9th 2012. We are presented with a case where an individual was given unlimited access to young boys of all ages, some from poor and underprivileged backgrounds. Of the 52 charges Mr. Sandusky received, 4 charges were initially dropped, leaving 48. On June 22, 2012, Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of sexual abuse. Sandusky was sentenced on October 9, 2012, to a minimum of 30 years and a maximum of 60 years in prison (Klein, Tolson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sandusky s case his actions of grooming, planning, using threats etc, show him to be a man who has understanding of his actions and crimes, where others who put less thought and are much more rash do not, tho neither criminal is absolved based on how well they hid their crimes. Sexual abuse of a child with any method is a horrendous crime. Is it ethical then to punish people who commit sexual abuse against children? Or should our approach be treatment not punishment? This is an age old debate, while there have been attempts to treat the disease of pedophilia, there are exceptions to this treatment whom despite it do reoffend. Counseling, monitoring, medicating, and even chemical castration are some ways our society has developed to treat the biological and psychological side of the argument ... • 5. Hitler s Story Essay Hitler s Story Hitler became chancellor in January 1933. At this stage he was not the dictator of Germany. The night of the long knives helped him to establish his dictatorship. However, there were other aspects, which helped him extend his control. As soon as Hitler was in power, new elections were called. In the middle of the Reichstag campaign, the Reichstag building went up in flames. It was this, which allowed Hitler to increase his control over Germany. On 27th February the Reichstag caught fire. When they police arrived they found Marinus van der Lubbe on the premises. He confessed to starting the Reichstag Fire. However he denies that he was part of a Communist conspiracy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And effectively allow him to establish a dictatorship. The Nationalists were prepared to support him in this, but even then Hitler wouldn t have the two thirds of the votes needed. After he got his enabling act, the Reichstag had in effect voted itself out of existence. It had voted to introduce a Nazi dictatorship. Now that Hitler had dictorial powers, he proceeded to extend his control further. Hitler banned political parties. This law gave Hitler what he wanted a ban on the Communists and Socialists taking part in an election campaign. The leaders from both parties were arrested and their newspapers were shut down. To keep the peace and maintain law and order, the roamed the streets beating up those who openly opposed Hitler. Hitler solemnly promised that the laws would only be used for emergencies, but within months Germany s trade unions. Were also banned. By 1934, there was only one major organisation not under Hitler s control. And that was the Army. The army leadership were supported by big businesses. • 6. Downtown Massillon On October 14 I attended a New Wave concert in Downtown Massillon. This concert was actually apart of a larger event called the Massillon Zombie Walk which is held once a year. Most everyone dressed as a zombie. There was even a man who dressed as a Soviet spy zombie who made my night. He walked down the sidewalk with an accordion, a hammer and sickle pin, and a giant fur hat. Other zombies swarmed around him as I realized that I m pretty lucky to live in an area that treasures local gatherings and celebrations. The night began with a Thriller performance in front of the Massillon public library. About 20 or so people performed the iconic dance as Michael Jackson s audio was played. The people who performed managed to do a really good job recreating the dance moves we all know so well and they looked like they had fun. The party moved down to the street beside the Massillon Museum where the stage was waiting. After we arrived New Wave Nation ran onto the stage and performed Thriller again. Sadly the lead singer of this band could not match MJ s awesome chops. It was cringe. All the high notes sounded fuzzy and strained. The tempo seemed too slow. There was a tv screen behind them that actually played the music video which managed to make their dancers incompetent. Weird sound effects were added to the end of phrases and instruments were played along with the original audio. I hoped with all my heart that they just hadn t warmed up, that it would get better but this was not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of The Film The Prince Of Egypt The Film, The Prince of Egypt is a not a very accurate copy when compared to the story of exodus from the Bible. The 1998 Dreamworks production The Prince of Egypt was created to follow the remarkable story of Moses, Leading his people from slavery but was changed by the directors to give it some originality. The setting, the characters and the storylines are some of the things that have been changed in the animated story. Therefore the Dreamworks Pictures film is inaccurate and does not flow along the same page as the Biblical story of Exodus. Firstly, when compared, The settings In the Dreamworks production differ from the ones in the Biblical account. The directors have made this change to add some excitement to some of the settings. The way how the Nile has been portrayed in the movie, Vary from the Bible because the Bible tells us that Moses had been placed in a basket among some reeds, But in the movie, Moses gets placed in the basket and the Nile takes him away. He just misses all kinds of dangers, From hippos and crocodiles to the Egyptian fishing nets. The reason the director did this massive change was to make the scene more exciting and to capture the audience. The Burning bush s description is different in the Bible than how it is portrayed in the movie. In the Bible, the burning bush is on top of a mountain called Horeb but In the movie it is in a cave where God calls to him. The director did this because he wanted to make the scene more scary and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you live in an area with mild winters, you can winterize the pool and cover it for the season. If, however, you live in an area where freezing occurs, you ll have to drain your Intex pool and take it down for the winter. Luckily, these pools are some of the easiest above ground pools to collapse and store. Complete Removal Take the ladder, pool pump, filter and all related hoses out of your pool. Clean them all and allow them to dry thoroughly. Locate the pool s drain valve. Remove the drain cover and attach your garden hose to the drain. When it is completely dry, roll your pool liner up. Carefully disassemble the pool s metal frame. Store it and all the other pool components in an area that will stay between 40 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Winterization Shock your pool about a week before closing it. This cleans the water and gives the chlorine level time to drop back down to the desired 1 to 3 ppm. If your chlorine level is too high when you close your pool the chlorine will prevent the algaecide you ll be adding later from working. Clean the pool of all debris, dust and algae. Use the vacuum and the net to remove all contaminants from the pool. Test your pool water and adjust the water chemistry as needed to reach a pH level between 7.2 and 7.8. Adjust your pool s total alkalinity to a range of 100 to 150 ppm. Add a water clarifier as well as an algaecide to your pool. Associate Justice Antonin Scalia When Associate Justice Antonin Scalia perished in Texas from natural causes, the focus was on the storm of controversy that was sparked by the now vacant space on the highest court in the nation, rather than the great tragedy of an honorable and long serving government official passing away. While this does paint a sorry picture of our nation s focus on who has the power rather than individual s happiness, the altercation caused by the urgent, important, and pressing question of who should appoint the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court and who the next Associate Justice should by is in many ways essential to what our country s main policies become in the next fifty years. • 10. 20th Century Gangs Research Paper Since the 1800 s gangs as we all know have a history in the United States. The United States became a melting pot during this time as people of many ethnicities and religions entered the United States. Many of the new immigrants joined gangs in order to gain a group identity, protect themselves against other rival groups both immigrant based and natural born citizens, and build a unified presence. The five corners in new York city is a prime example of immigrant based gangs just trying to protect themselves and gain identity in the new world. Emily Grierson From A Rose For A Rose For Emily Judith Fetterley argued in her critical essay that Emily Grierson from a Rose for A Rose for Emily was empowered and victimized by her gender and class. However the girl from Boys and Girls and Gertrude from Hamlet had not been as lucky as Miss Emily. In a Rose for A Rose for Emily Emily Grierson was the daughter of Mr. Grierson, who was a respected man in Jefferson. After his death Miss Emily still conserved her title of a lady even if all the town folks knew that she didn t have money left. Miss Emily took advantage of the fact that she was a lady to not pay the tax to the new town leaders by saying that she was exempted of taxes by the previous mayor of the town. She knew that the town people would not bother to ask her to pay the taxes that she legally had to pay as her father was dead and they were concerned about Miss Emily s mental health, but it was mostly because Emily Grierson was a lady and it would be considered disrespectful to force a woman of this status to settle her debt. Moreover, the town folks were complaining about a powerful odor emanating from her house. The Judge Stevens present at that time estimated that it was very inconvenient to mention to a woman of this rank that her house smells bad. So he decided that a few men from town would sneak in Miss Emily s house to spread lime around the Griersons property. Even this time the town people could not confront Miss Emily for her acts. However, one person stands out from the rest for me: Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa was a very influential person who went above her call of duty by helping people and forming the Missionaries of Charity. The Catholic Church has helped many people who are in need that would have died if they did not help. In general, millions of Christians and Catholics all around the world help many people who need help in many things. Catholic communities worldwide help people almost everywhere, making the Catholic Church s influence in people s lives very large. The Catholic Church, in general, will always go outside the normal boundaries to help those in need. Commonly, a culture has its own rules for women. The Ibo culture of Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart is one that gives its women power. They get their power through their roles as mothers and their contributions to their religion. Great power is also given to the women through the parts they play in agriculture for the clan. The women in Ibo society are misunderstood when their own African culture is compared to modern Western culture. The power given to the Ibo women, in the form of motherhood, is often overlooked due to the comparison, whereas by the Ibo, women are viewed as the foundation of the clan and its people (Hiatt). The women play educator in the Ibo villages. They pass on the morals, beliefs, and stories of the clan. This means that the women are pivotal to the literal survival of the community and social norms (Strong Leek). It would be true to say that women in Western society also have this power; however, the power is not to the same degree. The Ibo women are viewed mainly as child bearers (Strong Leek), therefore the Ibo children spend nearly all of their early childhood moments with their mothers. The lack of significant outside interaction means that these mothers control nearly all aspects of their children s development. The basics of computer science can be learned fairly quickly as the majority of computer programming is simple logic. It is so easy to learn that in Tennessee schools have begun teaching student the basics of computer programming as early as the third grade. This just goes to show how learning computer programming can be just as easily taught as basic maths and sciences. Computer programming does not need to be limited to its own subject. In Tennessee computer programming has been integrated into both its science and maths classes. Through a simulation software called ViMap, third and fourth grade teachers were able to teach a class on how butterflies adjust their behavior depending on their recent food consumption. This shows that adults as well as children are able to learn and use computer programming skills in order to benefit their lives. The benefits of learning computer programming are not limited to using computer programming itself. Another reason learning computer programming can be beneficial is the way computer programming forces someone to think. Jeannette M. As they progress to an elementary stage, they are introduced to folk fairy tales where they learn about diverse cultures, fables which teaches them moral values, and folk fairy tales about ancient times and historical events These stories form the basis of basic education. As identified earlier, Waldorf education emphasizes developmental learning. Children are not introduced to formal learning until elementary class at age 6 7. Pre school pedagogy emphasizes imagination and imitation of practical activities. The imitation approach aims at informing the child of the notion that the world is a perfect place (Ullrich, 2014). Thus, the educational approach emphasizes holistic conduct, character, and personality among the teacher and the environment. Pre school children are discouraged from using technology until elementary with the belief that it conflicts with the developmental process of a child (Woods and Glenys, 2006). At this developmental stage, children are using their power of imagination to learn and technology such as Television can expose them to unhealthy content. None other than Bill James, a widely known baseball writer, noted that the perceived strategy is actually very trite, predictable, and actually nonstrategic. Instead of manager s deciding on what substitution, or lack thereof, can give their team an advantage, they are forced with situations in which they must bunt, must pinch hit, and must double switch. As James notes, the American League game allows a true option, and thus true strategy. This means that whatever AL managers decide to do when it comes to offensive batting substitutions, they do so to benefit their team, not because they are forced to do so (Meehan, 2013). These substitutions, including the commonly used double switch where a pinch hitter is substituted for the pitcher and the next inning is substituted again for a relief pitcher, take up time in the game. It is significantly a problem in the MLB where the longevity and the slow pace of the game has caused many fans to get bored sitting through a full nine innings. Especially with the addition of instant replay, the game continues to get longer and it has become a challenge for many fans to watch an entire game. Brian Costa, sports reporter for the Wall Street Journal, wrote an article about the reasons for the length and slow pace of the game. He mentions that it has become normal for fans to complain about hitters stepping out of the batter s box, pitchers pacing around the mound and pitching changes. This allows the DNA to then be visualized using a dye like ethidium bromide after gel electrophoresis. The process has been refined over the years, however the basic steps are similar. The first is to denature dsDNA through heating to ~96 °C. This separates the two strands of DNA. The exact temperature to be used can be calculated with Tm = 4oC x (no. of G C) + 2oC x (no. of A T). Tm is the melting point of the strands and to supply the number of G, C, A, T s the primer is used. Annealing of primers is then possible when the temperature cools down to 37 65 °C. This in combination with the improvements in technique seen over the last few years can mean that for instance in forensics, extensive care needs to be taken when handling samples to prevent contamination. The interpretation of results can also prove tricky for levels of contamination (or DNA that was there due to circumstances unrelated to the crime) that may not have been noticeable with earlier techniques can point the blame to someone who was in fact innocent. While Darwin was studying natural selection, he noticed that different species would have to compete for survival allowing some species to have different characteristics that help them survive and produce more offspring. These offspring traits are passed down from their parents, and it will help them become more successful in their need for survival (College, 2009). Darwin had to prove natural selection existed and how traits are passed down to offspring. He did this by the process of Pangenesis (College, 2009). Pangenesis is when each organ in the body has certain particles called gemmules. The gemmules, contain information of how each organ works; they are eventually released to the reproductive organs (College, 2009). They are passed down to the offspring from the reproductive organs. However, when I read Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven , I was immediately captivated by the new angle brought to my attention regarding death. While the topic of death is usually associated with either sympathy or horror, Poe succeeded in portraying a feeling caught between the two; and at the same time bringing forth new feelings I would never thought to consider regarding death. These feelings reflect a sorrow so deep into a psychological madness, a feeling that the pain death brings has ruined one forever. After analyzing this poem I came to the conclusion that Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven demonstrates that the sorrow the death of a loved one brings will stay with you forever. Poe communicated this theme through abstract language , tone, and allusion. The opening lines of The Raven identify the speaker as someone who feels tired and weak but is still awake in the middle of a gloomy night. He passes the time by reading a strange book of ancient knowledge. The first line of the poem contains alliteration of w in while, weak, and weary to produce the effect of unsteadiness. After consulting with the physician we changed the Vt to 600 and the pressure support to 20 and Cpap to 15. The Pt continued on these settings till 0415. The physician then made the change to Bi level with the settings of a rate of 14 pressure support of 25, and an H/L pressure of 35/15. The Pt at this time is pulling a Vt of 745 and a spontaneous rate of 17 and still at 100% Fio2 and sating 92%. This is the point when the Pt makes the turn. The Bi level or APRV was the proper setting for this Pt. He continued to improve over the next several days with his peek pressure climbing to 40. The Pt continues these settings and slowly improves and eventually weaned from the ventilator till the Pt no longer needs support. Pt received AP diameter X ray to confirm tube placement and to see if there were any kind of infiltrates because of possible aspiration and to eliminate possible pneumothorax and pleural effusion. Findings included mild patchy infiltrates in the right upper to middle lobes. The left lower lobe also has some similar findings but less concerning. This may either be due to lung infection or pulmonary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Hr Model HR Centre of Excellence HR Models lessons from best practice Initial desk research October 2009 Nick Holley Henley Business School 2009 www.henley.reading.ac.uk Contents Introduction The classic HR model Over the last decade a classic model, based on the work of Dave Ulrich et al, has emerged that has three elements (recently he has added to the model but these three remain the core). We don t need to go into detail but we will simply highlight these three key elements: business partners, shared services and centres of expertise: Business Partners Establish relationships with customers line/ business units Contribute to business unit plans Shared Services Deliver HR services Manage routine processes effectively and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drivers for change: Dissatisfaction in many organisations with HR s contribution to the restructurings and mergers in the early 2000 s. Increasing disillusion with HR s contribution beyond following the latest management fad. This disillusion has led to calls to reduce the cost of HR and to see harder measures of outcomes, whilst increasing HR s flexibility and business focus. The move in many businesses to outsource non core activities including HR whilst providing a stronger business contribution by enhancing HR s contribution to strategic business initiatives. The change in organisational models themselves that are trying to balance the need for centrally driven efficiencies with locally driven responsiveness. This highlights the challenge of providing strong functional expertise with the need to align with different business needs. A shift in the role of HR from being employee focused to an organisational and management focus. The adoption of ERP systems accelerated by legacy fears in the run up to Y2K and the use of these systems to improve and systematise administrative and HR processes so they become more efficient and consistent whilst linking seamlessly to the front office. As one commentator said: The human resources function within companies today needs to look at itself much more as a business, because that is how executives are looking at it and ... • 32. Disengagement Theory Is The First Formal Theory Of Aging Disengagement theory is the first formal theory of aging. It was first proposed in 1961 by Elaine Cumming and William Hendry. They both were researchers from the University of Chicago. The two developed their theory in their book Growing Old: The Process of Disengagement. In the book they criticized the implicit theory that people can adjust, be satisfied, and happy in old age. They can also be physically involved and remain active throughout their lives. Cumming and Henry argued that normal aging involves a natural and inevitable mutual and inevitable mutual withdrawal or disengagement, resulting in decreasing interaction between an aging person and others in the social system he belongs to. Because of the inevitability of death, the society and the individual mutually server their ties in advance so that the death of the individual will not be disruptive to the social system. The disengagement theory results in decreasing interaction between aging person and social system. Disagreement occurs when the individual becomes aware of the shortness of life and the amount of time left. The individual wants to disengage by reducing the number of roles the individual plays. One of the most controversial things about this theory would be that the idea of disengagement was a universal meaning. Universal means it happens everywhere and in all historical areas. Inevitable, means that it happens sometimes to everyone. Lastly, intrinsic is cause by biological factors rather than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reaction Kinetics Essay Reaction Kinetics: Rate of Reaction Of Tertiary Butyl Bromide Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to find the order of t BB graphically, to find the k (rate constant) at 0 amp;#730; C and at room temperature, also to find the Ea (activation energy). Principles: Several different chemical kinetic principles were used in this experiment. The reaction rates of this chemical equation were determined experimentally. This then allowed the reaction mechanisms (i.e. orders of each component, rate constant, etc.). These mechanisms were ultimately determined to be compiled to form a rate law. Rate = k[A]m[B]n Integrated rate laws are used to determine concentrations of reactants at certain times. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 34. Study On Caffeine Consumption During College Students And... Results Univariate Demographic Analyses This study on caffeine consumption was conducted as a survey given out to college students and an afterschool AP tutor class at Van Nuys High school. Of the respondents, there were an equal amount of males and females (see Table 1). In total 55% of the respondents were the high school students. The mean age was 18.28, 22 % of the respondents currently in college. College graduates constitute 11 % of the participants. There was only 1 repondent who has a high school graduate and was not currently in college. Also, there was only 1 participant who was currently in grad school. Table 1. The mean for the amount of servings of caffeinated beverages was 1.81 (seen in Table 2). Most participants had more than 1 serving and a half a day. A serving is measured as 1 cup or 8 fluid ounces. My research also asked how much the

  • 36. Flappers Chapter 1 Analysis 1.) In paragraph 13, the writer says that the flapper was as standardized as a chain hotel ; by what he means is that the flappers were similar almost the same to one another, much like a chain hotel. He generalizes flappers to be all the same and compares the flapper s dress to be a national product , as in something that was the same throughout the country. There is no distinction in the cut of clothing between the rich flapper and the poor flapper national advertising has attended to that. The rich flapper has better clothing than the poor one, but a block away they are all flappers. The writer compares the sameness of the flapper s dress to the sameness of chain hotels. ...and incidentally hotel bedrooms are becoming so alike you can remember ... After the tragedies, the youth began to celebrate mortality, fun, money, and youth and the flappers did just that. Flappers were radical women who didn t follow the conventional standards for women in the US in the 1920s and seeked personal liberty. They rebelled against gender roles and did what was considered immoral for women and norms for men; they drank alcohol, smoke cigarette, listened and danced to jazz music, flirted, and drove a car. But most importantly, they made their own money. Though the original idea of flappers were poor working girls who waited for someone to marry them, the standard quickly changed. Flappers became women who wanted to make their own money and didn t want to marry man to support them. Flappers appearance wise, iconically they had their hair short to a bob, wore short dresses (an inch above the knee), wore makeup, and didn t wear corsets. Flappers were not only iconic in the roaring twenties, but also in feminism and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
