Ageism, Or Prejudice And Discrimination Associated With A...
Ageism, or the prejudice and discrimination associated with a person s age, has become a widely
researched topic among scholars over the last few decades. The deficit model of ageing characterizes
old age as a pathological condition in which individuals undergo physical and mental decline (Allen,
2011). Growing old has developed into a major social problem in Western culture, and most
individuals accept the stereotypes and stigma related to ageing. Companies, often phase out older
employees by hiring young individuals who are perceived as being less of a risk, and more of an asset
to the company. The exclusion of older individuals is especially prevalent in industries related to
media and professional sports. Media, favors young individuals because they convey an image of
beauty, vigour, and energy. Similarly, professional athletes are often forced to retire early, due to the
recruitment process of professional sports teams. The objective of this study aims to uncover ageism
in the dance community, because dance combines beauty and athleticism, two traits that are
considered to decline with age.
The study discusses age discrimination within the dance community through an exploration of
previous research conducted on the topic, and a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with three
dancers via email. The dancers who participated in this study discuss their background as dancers,
their age, and their perception of age as a dancer. The participants acknowledge that

Secularity In George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four
Big Brother s Divinity: Disguised Elements of Religion Within Forced Secularity in George Orwell s
Nineteen Eighty Four In the four largest religions in the world, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and
Buddhism, they all have at least three elements in common: presence of a leader, rituals, and
organization. This, however, is not limited to solely the four religions mentioned above and are present
in most religions around the world. In George Orwell s dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty Four, the
Party in power, Ingsoc, ironically presents a forced religion praising themselves and Big Brother while
they also enforce a secular society. With Big Brother being the centre of the religion, the Party forces
the society to carry on their rituals and traditions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hell is a place where [sinners] will be punished with everlasting destruction (2 Thessalonians 1:9) and
[sinners] will [be thrown] into the blazing furnace, where there will be gasping and gnashing of teeth.
(Matthew 13:42) In short, hell is a place of destruction through pain and torture. In Nineteen Eighty
Four, there are references to cleansing through torture in an effort to accept Big Brother and the Party
in Room 101. Anyone who commits a political crime can be led in to Room 101, from Doublethinkers
to sexual sinners. This relates to another idea of religions: fun and love should be directed to the
ultimate leader, and love for anything else would be considered a sin, just like the society presented in
the book. With Room 101 being hell, O Brien being the torturer or the devil, and political prisoners
being the sinners, Orwell presents a familiar society that closely resembles most religions. Even
though Christianity seems to be the framework of Nineteen Eighty Four as it was written in a setting
where Christianity was the most common religion, most other religions carry similar ideas of
punishment in the afterlife. For example, Jahannam is the equivalent of hell in Islam, and Naraka is
the equivalent of hell in Hindu, with Yama, the god of death in charge. However, there is a slight
difference between traditional religions hells and Room 101 from Nineteen Eighty Four. In

18th Century Popular Sovereignty
The concept of popular sovereignty had a significant impact on government systems in the eighteenth
century as it spurred on the revolutions of the Americans and the French. In the following century, it
altered establishments in countries such as Japan who viewed a parliament as necessary to be
competitive with nations already governed by the will of the people. However, popular sovereignty
had a wide influence that expanded beyond government structure as it also led to societal changes
associated with modernity, including universal education. Britain serves as a prime example because
after passing the Representation of People Act of 1867, which extended the right to vote and doubled
the size of the previous electorate, it soon ratified the Elementary ... Show more content on

It was enacted due to public demand; there were flaws within the House of Commons, including the
corruption and aristocratic dominance, which caused protests. The working class began to demand
more power to institute change, but they were often excluded as the first act had restricted voting to
those who had property worth ten pounds. The act in 1867 lowered this restriction to five pounds,
which enfranchised nearly all the working class in city boroughs. Consequently, there was
apprehension within the legislative body that the voters would misuse their newfound rights.
Specifically, the Conservative party, primarily supported by the middle class, worried it would be
displaced by the Liberal party as its support came from the working class. The concern was the
working class would blindly follow each other, and therefore, the liberal ideology, rather than make
their own decisions. The two parties compromised by working toward an educational reform to
promote individual thought. It also allowed for more social mobility, so the working class had more
opportunity to transition into the middle

Personal Identity
The Development of Strong Mental and Emotional Health One s entire health is codependent upon
various aspects of a stable mental and emotional health; these all rely on who they are, how they think
of themself, and how they express what they feel. Furthermore, the state of one s mental and
emotional health can further impact their physical and social health. Good mental and emotional
health is built upon several prime subcategories of this form of health, these consisting of one s
personal identity, their self esteem, and their understanding and expression of emotions.
Personal identity is who somebody is, and is the foundation of mental and emotional health.
Additionally, it prominently partakes within how and why one emotes certain feelings and within
controlling them. Personal identity is one s background, their race, culture, and gender; even who they
are because of how and where they grew up. It is the conception one creates of themself as they age
and encounter both positive and negative experiences in life. Accordingly, it consists of others
opinions of oneself and one s actions will often reflect the type of opinions. Personal identity can ...

It relies upon one s confidence in who they are, most commonly relating to their self worth and their
physical, mental, and social abilities; most prominently, it relies on their self respect as person. Its a
sense of belonging and the belief of oneself. Self esteem can, simply enough, result from limitations
within life and can only kill oneself if they allow it to control them. Correspondingly, poor mental and
emotional health can be avoided by not giving in to other s negative opinions, recognizing and
accepting compliments, not only ignoring but accepting one s flaws, and, lastly, trying out new things
and attempting to better the flaws that are

Slavery as a Positive Good
Slavery as a Positive Good Question
When referring to the days of slavery, it is often assumed that the south was the sole force behind its
continuance. However there were many factors which lead southerners as well as some in the north to
quietly accept slavery as a good thing. John Calhoun declared in 1837 Many in the South once
believed that [slavery] was a moral and political evil...That folly and delusion are gone; we see it now
in its true light, and regard it as the most safe and stable basis for free institutions in the world (p.
345). This statement was justified by various reasons. There was the fundamental belief that Africans
were inferior to their white counterparts. Many saw the slave population as a labor force that ... Show

Take for example a woman whose role is to care for her master s children. She maybe well loved by
her charges but as they grow they will come to see her as less than a human being. That won t
necessarily keep them from caring about her, they will simply do so in the way they would love a cat
or dog. Pro slavery advocates were also quick to point out that the great empires of history were based
on slave labor. The Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Persians and so forth were mighty civilizations that
enslaved captives of war as well as criminals. It is possible to assume that since these societies were
able to focus of innovation and thinking because of their slave work force that the south too would
flourish intellectually. Whether or not this is true is debatable. Yes there were several southern
inventors and writers of the time but to compare it to the advances of the past would be difficult. In
conclusion, the positive good argument was nothing short of a means for whites of all classes on both
sides of the Mason Dixie line to ease their own guilt over the institution of slavery. It is human nature
to put a positive spin on something we benefit from. Wars have been waged under the precipice of
uniting territories, bringing order, divine right, and alike while the true motivations have been wealth,
power and glory. The south was no different from the empires of the past in that

Human Trafficking in Our Own Backyard
Human trafficking is an important problem in world politics that is not currently receiving the
attention that it should. This is a terrible practice that involves the exploitation of workers, violation of
human rights, and the encroachment onto the body when human trafficking turns sexual.
Human trafficking is a huge issue that much is still unknown about. When we think of this practice we
often think of the issue that only occurs overseas in poverty stricken nations however this practice is
very prevalent in our own backyards. And this is one of the biggest myths itself: trafficking does not
always require the passage of transnational borders to be considered trafficking. Recently this issue
has stepped more into the public eye when a sex trafficking scandal was exposed before the super
bowl only two weeks ago. A fox article reported that children as young as 13 were missing and
rescued by law enforcement as pimps had brought these children to New Jersey with the intent of
selling their sexual services for money to tourists. In fact it is estimated that hundreds of thousands of
children are at risk in the United States for this kind of exploitation. These statistics are extremely
hard to estimate however because unfortunately, so many human trafficking cases still proceed
without consequence. (Polaris project). It is also important to realize that trafficking occurs in many
countries and not just to women or children. However the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime

New Belgium Brewing: Ethical and Environmental Responsibility
History
Belgium is home of the finest ales and have been known to brew for centuries. So when Jeff Lebesch,
an electrical engineer from Fort Collins, Colorado took a bicycle trip through Belgium it made him
realize there may be a market back home to sell Belgian style ale. Jeff returned home with hopes to
experiment and brew his own beer in his basement from the various ingredients he received on his
trip. When his friends approved of the ales he started marketing them to the local town. He later
opened New Belgium Brewing Company in 1991. His wife, Kim Jordan was the company s marketing

injury and acute respiratory distress (ARDS) is a secondary illness resulting from a primary disease
that has been largely ignored by the veterinary community, but initial early recognition of the disease
is paramount to providing a full recovery. This compounding disorder primarily affects the lungs and
its associated passages and membranes in the respiratory system which becomes deadlier as it
progresses. The three phases of this disease are the exudative phase, the proliferative phase, and the

Dickens, Alexis De Tocqueville, and Fanny Trollope traveled to the United States to experience what
America had to offer and they all experienced something different and new. America is well known for
its immigrants and migration to America, this dates all the way back to the 1820 s throughout the

Kudler will need to implement an up to date server. We recommend that a server be purchased and the
current one scrapped. The server will also need to run a more up to date version of the Windows
operating system. I recommend Windows server either 2003 or 2008. I chose the Windows server
edition because of the company s already existing familiarity with the Windows server operating
system. I also believe that learning the Linux operating system might slow down business operations
and this is why in this situation a newer version of Windows would be a more reliable choice.
Windows Server 2008 R2 builds on the successes and strengths of its Windows Server predecessors
while delivering valuable new functionality and powerful improvements to the base operating system.

The Paradox In Mary Oliver s Crossing The Swamp
In Mary Oliver s Crossing the Swamp , the speaker compares a swamp to the struggles and hardships
in life that fight against her. The speaker repeatedly contrasts herself to the swamp to emphasize the
vastness of the swamp, conveying how the speaker understands the hardships that come with life. The
speaker describes the swamp as a wet thick cosmos [...] ーthe nugget . The paradox compares the vast
cosmos with a small golden nugget, contrasting how the experience the speaker is going through may
be on a small scale such as the nugget , but may be large and vast like a cosmos . The nugget is
described with caesuras, and the caesuras are repeated five times throughout the poem. They act as an
interruption in the poem, conveying that the speaker cannot smoothly walk through the swamp and the
journey is labor intensive. As the speaker goes through the swamp, she experiences branching vines,
the dark burred faintly belching bogs . The alliteration of the hard b sound emphasizes how the
speaker is fighting against the struggles in the swamp to get through. The struggles are emphasized as
she goes through pathless, seamless, peerless mud . The scarcity of the mud is described with the
repeated use of less and the speaker indicates how the mud is moveless and still. The image is further
expanded with the comparison to life, and how life requires individuals to make their own path
through their life and that the universe does not simply create paths for each individual. She then feels
her bones knock together at the pale joints as she tries to grasp for foothold, fingerhold, mindhold over
the mud. The descriptions increase her sense of powerlessness in the vast cosmos she is in. Her
mindset shifts as she struggles over such slick crossings, deep hipholes, hummocks that sink silently
into the black, slack earthsoup . The repeated sibilants emphasizes how she is slowly sinking into the
mud. However, she is not resisting but is accepting the mud and the fact that she has no control over it.
The acceptance contrasts her earlier struggles with the belching bogs that she fought against. Mud
symbolizing life s struggles itself, the speaker learns to accept the challenges ahead of her. She shifts

The Methods Of Health Care Ethics
 Methods in health care Ethics Additionally to Emotivism, formalism, and consequentialism, several
other Ethical systems are used in the United States, some existed before the Enlightenment thinking. I.
Legalism or Positivism Morality or ethics as seen as a code of laws, in other words the acceptance of
ethical behavior is merely based on acceptable social standards of a particular culture. (Ashley,
Benedict M., O Rourke, Kebin D.) II. Religious Legalism Laws or moral norms derived from Holly
Scriptures (Bible, Qur an), this norms are seen as God will , blind submission to God; this remains
common among Christians, and predominant among Protestants. Catholics does not agree with this, as
they emphasis that blind submission to God does not image the likeliness of God. Does not allow for
us to understand the why? God wants us understand the reason behind each commandment. (Ashley,
Benedict M., O Rourke, Kebin D.)  The Moral System of the Catholic Church Is a combination of
God s Commandments and natural law . It says that there is a reason for each of the commandments.
For example You shall not commit adultery . Cheating in a relationship, hurts the other partner also,
hurts the person involved on the action of cheating, breaches the trust given, can lead to many other
problems or complications. In other words Catholic Church teaches the commandments but also,
explains the reasoning why God has forbidden such behavior. (Ashley, Benedict M., O Rourke, Kebin

Committee had a universal secretary, but most of its sittings were most frequently chaired by Gaddafi

Albert Camus The Guest
The Guest, by Albert Camus, is about an alleged murderer who is handed over to a solitary
schoolmaster who lives in his schoolhouse on top of a plateau in the Atlas Mountains. Daru, the
schoolmaster, is ordered by an old acquaintance to deliver a supposed murderer, the Arab, to the police
in a nearby town where he will most likely be sentenced to death for killing his cousin. The problem
Daru has with this order is that he believes that it is dishonorable to kill murderers, even though the
Arab s crime revolted him. Eventually Daru decides to not make any decision and gives the decision
of the Arab s life over to the Arab, who decides to go towards Tinguit and the police. Set in the middle
of World War II, Camus story centers around morality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Balducci, who at this point still cares somewhat for Daru, tells Daru that he ll not denounce Daru, or

orders which frustrates the gendarme who cares about Daru and is trying to keep Daru out of trouble.
Another instance of foreshadowing happens right as the story is coming to a close. The prisoner has
decided to turn himself in, for unknown reasons, and Daru is left staring out the window. Due to the
outsider view of the events in the story, we see that the people the Arab was being transported away
from tracked him to Daru s schoolhouse and now blame Daru for the Arab s decision to turn himself in
to the French authorities. They leave a note for Daru, vaguely describing how Daru is now in trouble
from the Algerian Resistance for handing over their brother to the French authorities. This after the
fact foreshadowing helps show how Daru s decision between handing over the prisoner or releasing
him was more of a decision of how his demise would happen and less about whether to choose
between what s right and what s

Any Farming is Good Farming Essay
Any Farming is Good Farming
In the future you will go to the grocery store and pay $15 a pound for Pork, and $20 a pound for Beef.
World hunger outside the United States will be running rampant because of an inadequate food supply.
Houses will start to pop up on all of the United States prime farmland. If we continue to bash
corporate farming, this is the world we would be looking at. Family farms would thrive because there
is little competition. The world as a whole would suffer because the small farms in the United States
could no longer supply the world, let alone its own citizens, with food.
The farming industry as a whole is failing and that is why we see family farms disappearing from the
landscape of America. America has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The leader of the National Family Farm Coalition, Bill Cristison states, There needs to be a far greater
understanding in this country about the important role of family farmers in providing for our nations
food supply and food security (Christison). The truth is family farms do not produce enough goods to
support the demand in the United States. People can t see that we need corporate farming and it is a
good thing for the national government to support any type of farming. In my mind, Cristison must not
want to support farming at all because he rejects the 2002 Farm Bill. Cristison states, Representative
Larry Combest, the House Agriculture Committee chairman, has said publicly that the winners of this
Farm Bill are American farmers. I strongly disagree. The winners of this farm bill are corporate
agribusiness (Christison). This bill was going to deliver income to farms through the taxpayer. This
would make up for losses that ANY farmer may take. Why would Cristison be against this if he is for
farming? Family farms are getting the money as well. This bill is very fair; if you have a larger farm
you will receive more money. That is how it should work, much like taxes in a sense that you pay
based on the size of your income. This bill was the only logical agreement reached by the national
government on how to help its farmers.
I know exactly what people in this country want to see when they think of agriculture. They want to
see their next door neighbor out on

The Oregon Health Services Commission
The Oregon Health Services Commission addressed budget cuts in 1990 by proposing a list of
Medicaid services. The list was ranked by priority, based on a cost effectiveness analysis. Access to
particular services became limited, but coverage was increased from 67% to 100% of the poverty
line1. Much protest broke out in regards to how the treatments were prioritized on the list. Some of the
dissatisfaction was of preceding events, such as the death of 7 year old Coby Howard following
funding cuts for organ transplants . Coby was suffering from a form of leukemia and unable to procure
enough money for a bone marrow transplant, formerly covered by Medicaid until the changes took
affect1. His death became the face of the problem over the debate of prioritized services. This essay
will argue that cost effectiveness analysis (CEA) is not a just procedure for prioritizing health services.
It will argue that priority for the worse off would be the most just approach in prioritizing services for
Medicaid recipients through the case study of the Oregon Health Services Commission. I believe that
priority to the worse off is the better alternative to CEA because it considers the difference of need
between individuals in resource allocation. Regarding Oregon s Health Services Commission, the
objective of the CEA was to identify and compare the costs and benefits of different health
interventions . The justification for this procedure, in light of funding cuts on Medicaid, was that the

The next study was in 2015 and was a total of 30 baseball players. The players returned to their
previous level of competition with an 82% rate. That study also showed a great number of players
came back with great speed as well, just over 12 months (O Brien 2015). Another study was over 137
MLB pitchers. The study focused on whether the pitcher could return and maintain the same workload
as before. The study concluded that the pitchers that have come back and are fully healed do not need
a lesser work load to continue to be healthy (Keller 2017). The next study that was concerned with
how a pitcher returned to the game was analyzed from numerous different pitchers from 2008 2013.

However, sometimes players will find complications with their elbow after they get back to playing

concluded that MLB pitchers who require revision UCL reconstruction after returning to play

workload whereas control pitchers who did not require revision pitch significantly less, below their
pre primary UCL reconstruction (Keller 2017). So their study found that if you have the revision

Battlefield Vs. Call Of Duty Game
BATTLEFIELD VERSUS CALL OF DUTY
The Battlefield franchise is one of the top selling shooter games of all times. It is best known for its
real life recreation of all out war. This game is a first person shooter team based game. Almost like an
arcade game with the guns on the side of it. Since 2002 the game has been loved by those who
consider themselves game players. Battlefield was different from any other game you could know.
Most shooter games are individual based, but what makes Battlefield different is you must work with
a team. For example, flag football is a team based game you need everyone doing their part to capture
the flag. No one has ever seen a game which required team effort online with random people before in

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biochar
Biochar is a carbon rich product obtained when biomass, such as wood, manure or leaves, is heated in
a closed container with little or no available air. In more technical terms, biochar is produced by so
called thermal decomposition of organic material under limited supply of oxygen (O2), and at
relatively low temperatures ( 700°C). This process often mirrors the production of charcoal, which is
one of the most ancient industrial technologies developed by being (Harris, 1999). Terra Petra is
known as black earth like anthropogenic soils with sustainable fertility in Amazonia. Key features of
terra preta are higher level of soil organic matter (SOM) enhanced nutrient holding capacity and
higher moisture holding capacity than in surround soils. Terra preta was made through the input of

There has also been increasing attention to the possibility of using biochar to mitigate climate change

Biochar is a porous material and has the potential to absorb and retain large amounts of water. It has as
high surface area, rich porosity, superior cation exchangeable capacity, and water holding capacity
(Yao et al., 2012; Kumar et al., 2013; Mašek et al., 2013). These characteristics play very crucial roles
in their various applications (Wang, Z. et al., 2015). When applying to the soil, it resists
decomposition, effectively sequesters the applied carbon and mitigates anthropogenic CO2 emissions.
(Biederman, L. A. and W. S. Harpole, 2013). Moreover, the use of biochar as means to ameliorate soil
physical properties and, particular, the soil water holding capacity, has emerged due to high porosity

Beach Descriptive Essay
After lazily waking up, my family and I head to the beach to enjoy the brisk day. It s only around
seventy five degrees, but that doesn t falter our excitement for the beach. The sun shines through the
clouds as we head down to pick a spot. The waves are calm and inviting as we lay our stuff down. The
wind is moving through the beachgrass like a quiet whisper. The seagulls caw, and attempt to steal the
snacks we brought. There s some kids playing in the water, but more are playing in the sand since the
water s so cold. Days like this are quite typical at the beach in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
In Hilton Head, near Coligny Beach, the small village where we stay is quite somnolent. It seems like
no one is ever awake before 9am. In the center of the sleepy town there s a Piggly Wiggly. Everyone
goes in there to get their groceries and beach supplies. Next to it there s an ice cream shop, the Frozen
Moo, which has some of the best ice cream I ve ever had. The shop has at least ninety different flavors
from Apple Pie to Rainbow Sherbet. There s a mural on the wall of cows surfing at the beach with
brightly colored chairs and tables; going along with the cow theme, there s even a life size replica of a
cow that they dress up for holidays. When walking into the town center, the beach is right across from
it. The smell of the ocean air and breeze coming through the town almost hypothesizes you to move
towards the waves. Since it s fairly cold in the morning, no one is ever there.

Energy Sources Of Renewable Energy
1. Introduction.
Nowadays, with the continuous increase in the demand for energy consumption resulted by both
population and socioeconomic growth, making it a priority to satisfy such a demand for all developed
countries. This report aims initially to focus on the energy situation in the United Kingdom, and then
present two forms of energy conventional energy in specific coal, and renewable energy which is wind
energy, and will finally recommend the most suitable one after comparing and contrasting them
considering both the cost and environment in different aspects.
2. Background Information.
Having relied on conventional energy sources for so many years which cannot renew themselves at a
sufficient rate for sustainable economic extraction, as well as the growth of energy demand causing
global energy crisis nowadays, it is becoming clearer than ever that all the countries have to look for
other alternatives to try to tackle this issue. Therefore, renewable energy is considered to be a long
term solution that might be able to replace the traditional forms of energy in the future. For instance,
in the UK according to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, (2012), the primary
consumption of electricity increased by 1.2% in 2012, at the same time the production of fuel dropped
by 7.3%, additionally, the Office for National Statistics predicts a population growth of 1.3% by 2037.
This illustrates that with the growth of demand for energy supplying as well as the predicted

The Death Of Sir Richard Steele
The best remembered periodical essayist, dramatist, and a politician was a man named Sir Richard
Steele. His birth date is not known but it is known that he was baptized on March 12, 1676 on Dublin,
Ireland. Richard Steele s father was also named Richard Steele; he was an attorney and his mother s
name was Elinor Sheyles; her occupation was not said. Unfortunately, after his parents passed away in
1676. Steele was placed under the guardianship of his uncle, Henry Gascoigne, which was secretary of
to the Duke of Ormonde. One of his challenges he faced was that he only had one stage failure in
1703, which was The Lying Lover, that had only ran for six nights. As Steele said damned for its piety.

between his attitude precepts and genial convivial practice. In Steele s plays the moralistic tract would
be echoed. Later that same year, Steele wrote his first comedy The Funeral or Grief A la mode. It was
successfully performed at Drury Lane. This play made his reputation look good and was noticed by
King William and the Whig leaders. Late in 1703, his second comedy, The Lying Lover was the only
stage failure Steele had. It only had six runs. In 1705, Joseph Addison helped Steele with his third
comedy called The Tender Husband. It was also a success, might have been because Addison put in
his part by helping Steele.
On August 12, 1709, Steele had released his paper called The Tatler, to be published thrice weekly. It
continued with Addison s help. The Tatler issues were authored by Steele. Addison writing about 46

January 2, 1711. The reason for this is uncertain but mainly because of political reasons. Under the
name of Isaac Bickerstaff, Richard Steele made a mixture of entertainment and instruction in a manner
of morals that was going to be perfected in The Spectator. Richard Steele wrote this The general

Argumentative Essay On Child Slavery
Today the world faces the horrible fact that child slavery and labor happens, and affects children all
around the world in places such as Africa, Asia, and Latin America, children are forced to work in
horrible conditions and work for small wages. They are also sold into slavery, never to see their
families again. The majority of these children are deprived the rights given to them in the United
Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In Article 3 it states that everyone has the right to
life, liberty, and the security of person. These children are having all this taken away from them. In
Article 4 it states that no one shall be held in servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited
in all their forms. These children are slaves and are being forced to do things that they don t want to
do. The United States was founded on freedom and liberty. They should help others achieve the
American standard of living. Also the United States should help based on these two articles and what
the document stands for is freedom to all. I believe that the departments that will help the most are the
Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, and Central
Intelligence Agency. The Department of Health and Human Services is in charge of insuring the health
for all American families and children. They have many programs including SNAP they gives food
stamps to families with low income. This helps them get food with these stamps and so

The Machine Of Death By Ryan North, Matthew Bennardo And...
Death is usually portrayed as both grim and darkly humorous in many pieces of literature and short
stories is one of the forms that allows writers to do both. Machine of Death is a two book anthology
series of stories, one page cartoons and illustrations edited by Ryan North, Matthew Bennardo and
David Malki. These were written and drawn by them and several other authors and illustrators by
conveying their own take on how they believe their character would handle it if they were forewarned
and forearmed of their own demise. These stories are varied by genre, style, approach and technique
but they all have two things in common. They all feature the titled Machine of Death which is a
fictional device created by the editors (and a fictional team of scientists and engineers) that allows any
of the characters involved to pay a fee (it varies from ten to twenty dollars depending on the story),
stick their finger in a slot to have their blood taken and a card pops out to reveal exactly how they die
and they are never wrong. However, if anyone expected it all to be as simple as that, this is where the
added twist that ties everything together is used. These cards only reveal the method of how they die.
For example, if a card said CANCER or STARVATION , that is all the information they receive. It
does not state how these circumstances come to be or exactly when they die and that is where the
existential crises of it all comes into play. These stories explain how

Essay On Alien Crime
Chapter II
Literature Review
According to Howitt, A. M., Leonard, H. B. (2009), many disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis,
forest fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, severe transportation accidents, and terrorist attacks typically occur
with relatively little or no advance notice in places and at times that are at best only roughly predicted
(p. 443). The U.S./Mexico UAC crisis however, was a result of a U.S. policy which was difficult to
foresee or determine. Considering that there are many sanctuary cities in America, and apprehending a
foreigner in the act of a crime is extremely complex in the American justice system. According to the
rule of law, petty crimes and misdemeanors are routinely processed, classified and dealt with ease.
However, murder and more heinous crimes are treated completely different in our judicial legal
system. If you are an American citizen, you could expect to be in a trial, which will affect the rest of
your life. But if you are an illegal foreigner (alien) and committed a criminal act, many don t
understand that international laws come into the decision making process. Protection internationally, is

Persuasive Essay On Child Welfare
Imagine you and your siblings living in a house where your father is violent and your mother is
struggling to protect herself and her seven children. Imagine these people come to your house and take
you and your siblings away from your parents, split you up, and send you to different houses, hours
away from each other. Imagine later on finding out your mother is dead and your father does not want
to take you back. Imaging moving again, and again, and again. Imaging being in abusive households,
houses in areas so rural there is no internet, moving schools over and over again. Imaging going to
five different primary schools. Imagine being a teenager and not being able to tell anyone, lying about
the number of siblings you have, lying through your teeth day after day because you cannot pick up
the courage to tell anyone. Imagine if this was you.
When I say the words poor child welfare you may think of the children who are living in poverty or
the children who are employed in child labour, or children who live in the middle of war zones. What
you might not think of is the children struggling right beneath our noses the homeless children,
children in foster care, or children in abusive households. There are several reasons why I have chosen
to focus on children, rather than all 7.5 billion people globally. This is because children keep the
human race going, and children should not go through what some do.

Racism In Master Harold And The Boys, By Athol Fugard
Master Harold ...and the Boys, by Athol Fugard takes place in the apartheid regime of South Africa.
The main theme in the play is racism, and the characters Hally, Sam and Willy confront its realities in
various ways throughout the play. Fugard uses symbolism as a way to explore racial tensions. He uses
four key symbols to establish the themes of racism and division as well as hope, freedom and
harmony. These include the meaning of the segregated bench, the flying kite, the ballroom dancing
and the crippled father.
Hally s favorite memory as a young boy is flying a kite with Sam in the park. Flying the kite
symbolizes overcoming racial barriers between black and white people. Sam makes the kite for Hally
to help him overcome his sense of shame because of his father s drunkenness. The kite is made from
tomato box wood and brown paper, flour and water for glue. Two of [his] mother s old stocking for a
tail and pieces of string. (Fugard 29) At first Hally is suspicious and had no hopes for it [...] In fact
[he] was shit scared [they] were going to make fools of [themselves]. (Fugard 29) Taking the step to
be a white person who disagrees with racism takes a lot of determination and guts. In order for Hally
to treat Sam as an equal he has to rise above the shame. The kite represents black and white people
working together and being equal. They are flying the kite together, and while doing this they are on
the same level. It is also significant that the kite flies beautifully

The Great Serpent Bound Analysis
Civilizations develop when the environment of a region can support a large and productive population
(Sayre 8). Even though civilizations do not last forever, there are elements within it that share their
culture with the world making them an everlasting memory and something to strive towards. The
belief system and social structure of a culture is known through the images and written language that
they leave behind (Sayre 11). The Great Serpent Mound is an art piece created by the Hopewell that

Just as belief system is tied to the spiritual world, social structure is tied to the material world. The
way in which a culture interacts with the material world affects the culture s social structure by
causing changes that stem from involvement with other cultures or civilizations. For example, the
burials showed that the Woodlands area of trade was vast, spanning from the Great Lakes, Gulf Coast,
Florida, and the Appalachian Mountains (Sayre 25). Whenever cultures become involved in trade,
their original culture is altered from what it originally was because it has been influenced by new ideas
and materialistic objects. The Hopewell culture [was] in southern Ohio causing it to venture away
from the rest of the Woodlands peoples culture. Even though they were the same civilization, there
culture was much less the same (Sayre 25). The Great Serpent Mound, built by the Hopewell culture,

  • 2. Ageism, Or Prejudice And Discrimination Associated With A... Ageism, or the prejudice and discrimination associated with a person s age, has become a widely researched topic among scholars over the last few decades. The deficit model of ageing characterizes old age as a pathological condition in which individuals undergo physical and mental decline (Allen, 2011). Growing old has developed into a major social problem in Western culture, and most individuals accept the stereotypes and stigma related to ageing. Companies, often phase out older employees by hiring young individuals who are perceived as being less of a risk, and more of an asset to the company. The exclusion of older individuals is especially prevalent in industries related to media and professional sports. Media, favors young individuals because they convey an image of beauty, vigour, and energy. Similarly, professional athletes are often forced to retire early, due to the recruitment process of professional sports teams. The objective of this study aims to uncover ageism in the dance community, because dance combines beauty and athleticism, two traits that are considered to decline with age. The study discusses age discrimination within the dance community through an exploration of previous research conducted on the topic, and a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with three dancers via email. The dancers who participated in this study discuss their background as dancers, their age, and their perception of age as a dancer. The participants acknowledge that ... • 3. Secularity In George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four Big Brother s Divinity: Disguised Elements of Religion Within Forced Secularity in George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four In the four largest religions in the world, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, they all have at least three elements in common: presence of a leader, rituals, and organization. This, however, is not limited to solely the four religions mentioned above and are present in most religions around the world. In George Orwell s dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty Four, the Party in power, Ingsoc, ironically presents a forced religion praising themselves and Big Brother while they also enforce a secular society. With Big Brother being the centre of the religion, the Party forces the society to carry on their rituals and traditions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hell is a place where [sinners] will be punished with everlasting destruction (2 Thessalonians 1:9) and [sinners] will [be thrown] into the blazing furnace, where there will be gasping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 13:42) In short, hell is a place of destruction through pain and torture. In Nineteen Eighty Four, there are references to cleansing through torture in an effort to accept Big Brother and the Party in Room 101. Anyone who commits a political crime can be led in to Room 101, from Doublethinkers to sexual sinners. This relates to another idea of religions: fun and love should be directed to the ultimate leader, and love for anything else would be considered a sin, just like the society presented in the book. With Room 101 being hell, O Brien being the torturer or the devil, and political prisoners being the sinners, Orwell presents a familiar society that closely resembles most religions. Even though Christianity seems to be the framework of Nineteen Eighty Four as it was written in a setting where Christianity was the most common religion, most other religions carry similar ideas of punishment in the afterlife. For example, Jahannam is the equivalent of hell in Islam, and Naraka is the equivalent of hell in Hindu, with Yama, the god of death in charge. However, there is a slight difference between traditional religions hells and Room 101 from Nineteen Eighty Four. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. 18th Century Popular Sovereignty The concept of popular sovereignty had a significant impact on government systems in the eighteenth century as it spurred on the revolutions of the Americans and the French. In the following century, it altered establishments in countries such as Japan who viewed a parliament as necessary to be competitive with nations already governed by the will of the people. However, popular sovereignty had a wide influence that expanded beyond government structure as it also led to societal changes associated with modernity, including universal education. Britain serves as a prime example because after passing the Representation of People Act of 1867, which extended the right to vote and doubled the size of the previous electorate, it soon ratified the Elementary ... The working class began to demand more power to institute change, but they were often excluded as the first act had restricted voting to those who had property worth ten pounds. The act in 1867 lowered this restriction to five pounds, which enfranchised nearly all the working class in city boroughs. Consequently, there was apprehension within the legislative body that the voters would misuse their newfound rights. Specifically, the Conservative party, primarily supported by the middle class, worried it would be displaced by the Liberal party as its support came from the working class. The concern was the working class would blindly follow each other, and therefore, the liberal ideology, rather than make their own decisions. The two parties compromised by working toward an educational reform to promote individual thought. It also allowed for more social mobility, so the working class had more opportunity to transition into the middle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Personal Identity The Development of Strong Mental and Emotional Health One s entire health is codependent upon various aspects of a stable mental and emotional health; these all rely on who they are, how they think of themself, and how they express what they feel. Furthermore, the state of one s mental and emotional health can further impact their physical and social health. Good mental and emotional health is built upon several prime subcategories of this form of health, these consisting of one s personal identity, their self esteem, and their understanding and expression of emotions. Personal identity is who somebody is, and is the foundation of mental and emotional health. Additionally, it prominently partakes within how and why one emotes certain feelings and within controlling them. Personal identity is one s background, their race, culture, and gender; even who they are because of how and where they grew up. It is the conception one creates of themself as they age and encounter both positive and negative experiences in life. • 6. Slavery as a Positive Good Slavery as a Positive Good Question When referring to the days of slavery, it is often assumed that the south was the sole force behind its continuance. However there were many factors which lead southerners as well as some in the north to quietly accept slavery as a good thing. John Calhoun declared in 1837 Many in the South once believed that [slavery] was a moral and political evil...That folly and delusion are gone; we see it now in its true light, and regard it as the most safe and stable basis for free institutions in the world (p. 345). This statement was justified by various reasons. There was the fundamental belief that Africans were inferior to their white counterparts. Many saw the slave population as a labor force that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Take for example a woman whose role is to care for her master s children. She maybe well loved by her charges but as they grow they will come to see her as less than a human being. That won t necessarily keep them from caring about her, they will simply do so in the way they would love a cat or dog. Pro slavery advocates were also quick to point out that the great empires of history were based on slave labor. The Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Persians and so forth were mighty civilizations that enslaved captives of war as well as criminals. It is possible to assume that since these societies were able to focus of innovation and thinking because of their slave work force that the south too would flourish intellectually. Whether or not this is true is debatable. Yes there were several southern inventors and writers of the time but to compare it to the advances of the past would be difficult. In conclusion, the positive good argument was nothing short of a means for whites of all classes on both sides of the Mason Dixie line to ease their own guilt over the institution of slavery. It is human nature to put a positive spin on something we benefit from. Wars have been waged under the precipice of uniting territories, bringing order, divine right, and alike while the true motivations have been wealth, power and glory. • 7. Human Trafficking in Our Own Backyard Human trafficking is an important problem in world politics that is not currently receiving the attention that it should. This is a terrible practice that involves the exploitation of workers, violation of human rights, and the encroachment onto the body when human trafficking turns sexual. Human trafficking is a huge issue that much is still unknown about. When we think of this practice we often think of the issue that only occurs overseas in poverty stricken nations however this practice is very prevalent in our own backyards. And this is one of the biggest myths itself: trafficking does not always require the passage of transnational borders to be considered trafficking. Recently this issue has stepped more into the public eye when a sex trafficking scandal was exposed before the super bowl only two weeks ago. A fox article reported that children as young as 13 were missing and rescued by law enforcement as pimps had brought these children to New Jersey with the intent of selling their sexual services for money to tourists. In fact it is estimated that hundreds of thousands of children are at risk in the United States for this kind of exploitation. These statistics are extremely hard to estimate however because unfortunately, so many human trafficking cases still proceed without consequence. (Polaris project). It is also important to realize that trafficking occurs in many countries and not just to women or children. However the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

America is well known for its immigrants and migration to America, this dates all the way back to the 1820 s throughout the Nineteenth Century. The speaker repeatedly contrasts herself to the swamp to emphasize the vastness of the swamp, conveying how the speaker understands the hardships that come with life. The speaker describes the swamp as a wet thick cosmos [...] ーthe nugget . The paradox compares the vast cosmos with a small golden nugget, contrasting how the experience the speaker is going through may be on a small scale such as the nugget , but may be large and vast like a cosmos . The nugget is described with caesuras, and the caesuras are repeated five times throughout the poem. They act as an interruption in the poem, conveying that the speaker cannot smoothly walk through the swamp and the journey is labor intensive. As the speaker goes through the swamp, she experiences branching vines, the dark burred faintly belching bogs . The alliteration of the hard b sound emphasizes how the speaker is fighting against the struggles in the swamp to get through. The struggles are emphasized as she goes through pathless, seamless, peerless mud . The scarcity of the mud is described with the repeated use of less and the speaker indicates how the mud is moveless and still. The image is further expanded with the comparison to life, and how life requires individuals to make their own path through their life and that the universe does not simply create paths for each individual. She then feels her bones knock together at the pale joints as she tries to grasp for foothold, fingerhold, mindhold over the mud. The descriptions increase her sense of powerlessness in the vast cosmos she is in. Her mindset shifts as she struggles over such slick crossings, deep hipholes, hummocks that sink silently into the black, slack earthsoup . The repeated sibilants emphasizes how she is slowly sinking into the mud. However, she is not resisting but is accepting the mud and the fact that she has no control over it. The acceptance contrasts her earlier struggles with the belching bogs that she fought against. Mud symbolizing life s struggles itself, the speaker learns to accept the challenges ahead of her. (Ashley, Benedict M., O Rourke, Kebin D.) II. Religious Legalism Laws or moral norms derived from Holly Scriptures (Bible, Qur an), this norms are seen as God will , blind submission to God; this remains common among Christians, and predominant among Protestants. Catholics does not agree with this, as they emphasis that blind submission to God does not image the likeliness of God. Does not allow for us to understand the why? God wants us understand the reason behind each commandment. Albert Camus The Guest The Guest, by Albert Camus, is about an alleged murderer who is handed over to a solitary schoolmaster who lives in his schoolhouse on top of a plateau in the Atlas Mountains. Daru, the schoolmaster, is ordered by an old acquaintance to deliver a supposed murderer, the Arab, to the police in a nearby town where he will most likely be sentenced to death for killing his cousin. The problem Daru has with this order is that he believes that it is dishonorable to kill murderers, even though the Arab s crime revolted him. Another instance of foreshadowing happens right as the story is coming to a close. The prisoner has decided to turn himself in, for unknown reasons, and Daru is left staring out the window. Due to the outsider view of the events in the story, we see that the people the Arab was being transported away from tracked him to Daru s schoolhouse and now blame Daru for the Arab s decision to turn himself in to the French authorities. They leave a note for Daru, vaguely describing how Daru is now in trouble from the Algerian Resistance for handing over their brother to the French authorities. This after the fact foreshadowing helps show how Daru s decision between handing over the prisoner or releasing him was more of a decision of how his demise would happen and less about whether to choose between what s right and what s ... The winners of this farm bill are corporate agribusiness (Christison). This bill was going to deliver income to farms through the taxpayer. This would make up for losses that ANY farmer may take. Why would Cristison be against this if he is for farming? Family farms are getting the money as well. This bill is very fair; if you have a larger farm you will receive more money. Coby was suffering from a form of leukemia and unable to procure enough money for a bone marrow transplant, formerly covered by Medicaid until the changes took affect1. His death became the face of the problem over the debate of prioritized services. This essay will argue that cost effectiveness analysis (CEA) is not a just procedure for prioritizing health services. It will argue that priority for the worse off would be the most just approach in prioritizing services for Medicaid recipients through the case study of the Oregon Health Services Commission. I believe that priority to the worse off is the better alternative to CEA because it considers the difference of need between individuals in resource allocation.
