Shelley s Frankenstein and Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Grey
What makes a man a monster
Stories of monsters have captivated readers attention since the very beginning even though the
definition of what a monster is perceived to be is complex and vague. The word monster and its
meaning in today s culture is very opinionated. Most people think of monsters in an evil sense because
of what todays pop culture has depicted a monster out to be. Shelley s and Wilde s intentions for
monsters were not to be taken out of context from how they originated. Shelly and Wilde saw
monsters in the people and in the world surrounding them. Upon viewing this they recognized the true
fear of determining one s identity. Once they viewed this event through the eyes of the people, they
deemed necessary that they should provide a lesson by writing Frankenstein and The Picture of Dorian
Gray. The lesson of the two books are that if the creator can not handle the responsibilities of the
creation process, then the creation will fail. If the creation fails, then ultimately the creator fails and
the true colors of mankind are shown. In the novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, the
main character is Dorian Gray. Gray s persona is contradictory to itself in a way that one may not
begin to comprehend him and his values, as not only a person but as a human being . He s good, he is
bad; he is beautiful, he is hideous; he is perfect, he is incredibly flawed. Most importantly, he is
literally two things at once he is himself, a living, breathing human

While Modern Film Productions Have Lost The Ambitious...
While modern film productions have lost the ambitious classicism of early cinema, the idea to view
cinematography itself as a self governing construction of thinking has been carved into the history of
continental philosophy. Due to the variety of material and conjecture, film manipulates the four
dimensional reality in which we live our everyday lives in. From A quoi pensent les films?, Jacques
Aumont, a French academic writer on film theory, states that film has the power of thinking in order to
express that the art form has the ability to release us from the restriction of our realistic judgements
and radical perceptions, producing a poetic and dreamlike reality.
Film philosophers that were specifically intrigued in the mechanics of ... Show more content on

Henri Bergson, a French philosopher, declines this model theory by communicating that the cinematic
adventure actively perceive time and movement all in one platform, his philosophy was the variance
of material and spiritual actuality. In a counter exploration of Benjamin s ideals, when one looks at a
clock they view purely different placements and positions of the clocks hands, but this act entails no
specific spiritual connection to the viewer. The same logic of this situation compares to the example
from Benjamin s. Only the single audience s encounter can determine the product. Exploring this
theory, French philosopher Deleuze, who wrote on the philosophy of literature, film, and fine art,
counters Benjamin s statement arguing that our mind does not need to put together the arbitrary
components that is required to construct a piece but rather we can receive the information as a whole.
In his two most popular books on cinema, Deleuze argues that because of Image Mouvement (Cinéma
I) and Image Temps (Cinéma II), Deleuze moves to say films do not think with plain set images like
paintings, which produce no mechanics to personify thought, but with movement images and time
images. Movement images are explained as a scene of action the creates a reaction, producing the
cycle of similar scenes. Time images are defined by Deleuze as a scene that is created entirely on
thought. Not only do these two components provide the audience

What Is A Foreign Learning Experience
What kind of foreign language learning experiences have you had?
My first foreign language learning experiences go back to 1993 when I went to the English Institute.
That was located in Benghazi, and run by professionals from Garyounis University. I learnt how to
speak. I had to learn a short dialogue every day by heart. The students were given a short dialogue, as
a home work, to read and learn by heart with learning the implication. No listening or writing skills.
Only Reading and Speaking. Grammar points were pointed out by the teacher and explained. Also, the
teacher would monitor our pronunciation and make correction when necessary. The learning process
was mainly reading, memorizing and come the next day and practice what had been learnt with other
learners.
Having finished my secondary school studies, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have been keen on learning as I have always been in pursuit of learning anything related to the
teaching English and language learning.
I believe that a learner must be a high flier and ambitious to learn the language. I don t believe in
spoon feeding. Learners should not be only receptive but also producers. Classroom activities are
important and can make the whole class contribute and get into interaction. This will help learners to
overcome their embarrassment and break the ice.
Despite the long years of experiences and working as second language teacher, I still feel not satisfied
with my standard.
I believe my experience in teaching EFL in an English language environment has benefited me a lot,
though.
I would like to think my experience of teaching English to both adults and children has allowed me to
contribute positively to any course of any group of learners of English. I believe my skills have
developed and make my teaching more effective. With a Celta course I am quite sure it will help me to
do very well in my job.

Ron Moore
A Same Kind of Different as Me
Red River Parish, Louisiana is where this story of friendship begins. In this small town, plantation
farms covered the land along with cypress and hardwood trees. Here we meet the first character,
Denver Moore. Denver Moore is a slave, who knows his place in the world. He knows that white
people have more power than him and his fellow slaves and because of that he avoids interaction with
whites as best he can. In the first chapter, he risks his life by helping a white woman change her tire.
Because of this one act of kindness towards white woman, he is dragged behind a horse with a rope
around his neck by 3 boys not much older than Denver. Incidents like this were common in the 1950s
because slavery was still a big problem even after President Abraham Lincoln declared all slaves free.
Denver lives with his grandmother Big Mamma and his grandfather PawPaw. He lives with his
grandparents because his mother was too young to raise him and his father abandoned them. Denver
had an older brother named Thurman and a sister named Hershalee who both end up getting moved to
different plantations. In the end of chapter three their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

school. Ron was born in Fort Worth Texas and has been almost everywhere since. His Art selling
business keeps him and his wife Debbie, and their 2 children comfortable in a wealthy lifestyle. Ron
Hall is a good man who has a love for art and God. During his years at TCU, he met his beautiful and
one of a kind wife Deborah. According to Denver, Miss Debbie was the skinniest, noisiest, pushiest
women he has ever met black or white. Ron and Deborah lived a happy life with God proudly in the
picture. They spent a lot of their time at a shelter where homeless people came to eat and sleep. At the

Zephyr In Greek Mythology
Language is a pivotal part of the foundation on which we have built society. Everyday people
everywhere speak and hear thousands and millions of words. Although we use them so much, many
people don t know where most of these words originated. More often than not, a word evolves into its
current form from a similar word in an ancient culture. Many of the words we use now have evolved
from Greek culture and Greek mythology; such words can be found in everyday language, medical
terms, and even hidden in company and product names.
The words zephyr, echo and narcissism are all very common words, and many people do not know
they all actually originate from Greek myth. A zephyr in today s definition is a soft or gentle breeze,
however, in Greek myth, Zephyr was the West Wind. An echo is a sound that is a repetition of another
sound, the result of sound waves bouncing off of a surface like a wall. However, as told by Edith
Hamilton, Echo was a nymph cursed by Hera to only be able to repeat things someone else says first.
Furthermore, narcissism, meaning excessive self love, comes ... Show more content on

The atlas is the top vertebrae of the spine where the head and spine meet. This term came from the
story of Atlas who was cursed to hold up the world on his shoulders. He rested the Earth on that part
of his neck, giving it it s name. The achilles tendon is the tendon in the foot that connects the calf
muscles to the heel. It got it s name from the story of Achilles. He was a warrior whose mother
attempted to make him invulnerable as a child by dipping him into the River Styx but she did not
succeed completely because his ankle did not get dipped because that was where she was holding him,
and it later became known as his Achilles heel, or achilles tendon. Phobia, meaning fear, originates
from the story of Phobos, the Greek god of fear. Many other medical terms have some reference to

Religion And Religion
The incorporation of religion into a person s life displays how a belief in gods can impact every facet
of someone s life. The entirety of religion is based solely on faith and the willpower of someone s
belief in what has been taught to them. In these teachings, through sacred texts, manuscripts, or orally
transmitted; the basis of many religions is the idea of an object, person, or building being sacred. The
reason something becomes sacred and is then believed to be sacred is because the sacred manifests
itself and makes itself become known to man. This is what separates the religious man from the
profane man, the idea that items can be sacred, and the belief that they are sacred. Eliade points out
that the profane man experiences life uniformly neutral, he does not have something that shapes his
life like religion does . The objective of religious architects was to separate the holy world and the
profane world by utilizing sacred space to allow for a relationship between believers and the cosmos.
In many religious systems around the world, there were thought to be three cosmic levels, heaven (or
nirvana, etc.), earth, and hell (or the underworld, land of the dead, etc.). The religious man believed
that the axis mundi , center of the world, linked all three cosmic levels together. The different religions
had different centers of the world, and all of them were built using various types of architecture, which
reflected their own specific culture. In Babylonia, ziggurats

Dating Violence
Introduction
All three articles address dating violence as well as sexual assault. This topic is important to me
because in this day and age dating violence and sexual assault are very common with individual s
period. Regardless of the person being homosexual or heterosexual, Edwards, Sylaska, Barry,
Moynihan, Banyard, Cohn, Walsh and Ward (2015) were able to show studies that included
participants being victimized of sexual assault and dating violence. Sexual assault and dating violence

Body Wall Tendons Research
Mark Jones
Writing Assignment 2
BIOL 510
4/11/2017
Tendons are one of the most important tissues in the body of any organism, transferring the power
created by the muscles to the bones and allowing coordinated body movements to occur. However,
until recently there was very little known about the origin of this tissue and most of the research
performed focused on the limbs and the tendons associated with them. Along with the limited amount
of research it seemed that not of them were focused on the axial and ventrolateral body wall tendons.
It was not until later that the discovery of Scleraxis, Scx, which is a bHLH transcription factor found
in, but not limited to, progenitor cells that eventually lead to tendon formation. The discovery of ...

In situ hybridization was used to visualize Scx expression and QCPN to identify quail cells. The two
layers of sclerotome transplanted from quail to chick indicated that quail cells produced Scx tendon
progenitors and sclerotome. It also produced a complete set of tendon progenitors between the
myotome layers, indicating they arose from both chick and quail cells. While transplanted quail and
host chick sclerotome indicated that the Scx expressing cells were entirely produced by quail cells.
This observation suggested that Scx expressing cells between two layers of myotome form from the
anterior and posterior edges to two adjacent somites. On the other hand, two adjacent dermomyotome
layers did not produce any Scx expressing tendon progenitors but, it did produce myotome and
dermotome. This observation lead to the conclusion that the dermomyotome produces myotome and
the sclerotome produces the syndetome. These results raised the question: why is Scx expression only
being observed on the anterior and posterior boundaries of the somite closest to the myotome and if a
signal from the myotome was responsible for the observed

Anne Bradstreet is commonly known as one of the most influential writers of all time. She was the

for it was not considered an acceptable act for a woman to write. She faced many hardships but
persevered through them all. Bradstreet set the bar from then on for all female writers.
Anne Bradstreet was born in 1612 in a castle in Northampton, England. She lived a fairly good life.
Her father, Thomas Dudley, was a well kept and well educated man. From this he taught Anne himself

came to a staggering end from the grand celestial meteoroid which assaulted life into a different
direction. It acted as a stimulus which guided us into a contrasting atmosphere; we are corresponding

Negative Effects Of Urban Sprawl
roduction: Urban sprawl is the rapid expansion in urban areas and includes the migration of the
population shifting from rural areas to urban. According to research from the David Suzuki
foundation, 80% of the canadian population now lives in urban areas. There are many factors and
causes that contribute to why this urbanization and rapid change is occurring. Many of the reasons
include the desire to live in the city where there are better living conditions, more job and education
opportunities. Also, the lack of planning a city more efficiently is one of the most common reasons for
urban sprawl. The more the population grows, the more trouble it begins to have on the people and
environment. Urban sprawl comes with many direct and indirect negative effects. The overpopulation
of humans means the more use of vehicles, which causes issues like air and water pollution, which has
severe effects on the environment and human health. The overconsumption of water is also very
serious issue that is linked to the over population and growth in urban areas. The number of people
living in an area affects how much water is being consumed and how much of that water is being used
efficiently. Lastly, the use of more land due to the high demand of development, and that affecting the
wildlife and nature. Increased Pollution:
Urban sprawl causes the population in urban areas to become larger, however, this comes with a cost.

this issue three time with three different technical service bulletin (TBS) before its final decision of
costly recall which lasted to December 2018.

Love encompasses all.
Sometimes I wonder if you even care about us at all. As Rick explains to Shane the situation in which
Lori, his wife, made this comment to him in front of their son, Carl, in season one of The Walking

the difference between men and women is a man would never say something so cruel. This may or
may not be true, but the fact that he made this comment shows that there is obvious resentment that he

The purpose of their trip was so they could bond, which wouldn t of needed to necessarily happen if
they were already close. Bonding is usually an action for people who have a connection to strengthen
that relationship and make it more meaningful to both parties. The situation that they endure with the
Zombies, however, bonds them much closer then a car ride. The defining scene is when the two are on
a boat in the middle of a lake catching fish for the group, as they learn more about their relationship
and their respective relationships with their father. After this bonding, the dynamics between them
change and they act much closer from thereon out. The Zombies cut off this resurrection immediately,
as a walker bites Amy and kills her. Andrea is shocked and traumatized by this event, and decides to
sit next to Amy for a long period of time. As Amy wakes up as a walker, Andrea apologizes to her for
not being there for her in an emotional scene and puts a bullet in her brain (since she was a walker).
Andrea making this comment shows how close they became through the ordeal, and her actions and
feelings that proceed this event proves that. On the flip side to this example, Rick and Lori seem to
grow farther apart through the Apocalypse. There was obviously joy and appreciation between the
couple at the knowledge of Rick s survival settled in between the couple. As the season goes on,
though, there is a disconnect between Rick and Lori. The only scene

Servant Evangelism Research Paper
The dirty work of evangelism in regards to my conversion is not really applicable since I was brought
up in church and saved at the age of seven. I am sure there were things that went along with the work
of evangelism in my life that I am unaware of. The discipline of servant evangelism is a critical need
that has been neglected for years. Some churches have started doing it but most still want to hold to
the historical ways of outreach that do not seem to work. Servant evangelism teaches that one must be
willing, just as Jesus was, to get their hands dirty in order to see the lost saved. According to Will

looked for opportunities to show his love. The believer needs to adapt this into their daily life in order

The Importance Of Family Stability And Childhood Development
A look at Family Stability and Childhood Development
In the past, scientists perceived the human brain as a rigid and predictable organ. According to them,
based on a person s genetics, the brain developed in a predetermined way, endowing an individual
with a level of learning capabilities and baseline intelligence (Stromberg). However, neuroscientists
are beginning the recognize the brain as a responsive, constantly evolving organ that can change on
several levels due to environmental influences and experiences (Stromberg). A series of studies have
emphasized that although the brain can change for the better, it can also change for the worse. A child
s brain is especially vulnerable to such effects and this research has shown that growing up in difficult
circumstances can cause damage to a child s cognitive skills that last a lifetime. Without a doubt,
family stability holds the greatest impact on a child due to the developmental outcomes and academic
failure it ensues.
A stable family provides a nurturing relationship between parent and child, which is essential for a
child to continue movement along positive pathways in development. From the moment of conception
to the initial steps into a classroom, early childhood development takes place at an alarming rate
(Relationships). Consequently, raising a child is one of the most difficult yet important tasks for
parents. The relationship parents build with their children shapes the way the child sees the world and

Audit Planning And The Audit
Audit planning is a process that entails designing a road map to be followed when conducting an
audit. It also extends to identifying the specific guidelines to be adhered to direct the audit direction in
the most professionally way. It can be established that are various guidelines that guide the audit
depending on whether it is internal or external. Notably, external audit is guided by various standards,
which require financial information to be prepared in a specific way as stipulated by various standard
setting bodies. Therefore, in audit planning each body has distinct guidelines to be followed in
accordance to the jurisdiction s accepted accounting principles. An analysis of three audit planning
standards: AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants), PCAOB (Public Company
Accounting Oversight Board) and IAASB (International Auditing and Assurance Standards
Board)reveals characteristic similarities and differences, which have an overall impact on the
performance of the audit. Audit planning is carried in accordance with the guidelines of the specific
accounting body. Therefore, in doing so, the Auditor need to identify the jurisdiction under which a
firm falls under to establish which standards to adopt. According to PCAOB, an audit planning should
be done in accordance to PCAOB standards (Auditing Standard No. 9). Furthermore, the standard also
expressly defines the how the overall audit plan should be done and the risk assessment guidelines to

Charles Kenny s Getting Better And Nina Munk s Profile
PS 330 Comparative Review
Introduction
Charles Kenny s Getting Better and Nina Munk s profile of Jeffrey Sachs in The Idealist represents
two distinct perspectives on how best to promote development and the challenges associated with
implementing such transformative visions. Jeffery Sachs takes a very straight forward approach to
problem of how to eradicate poverty. He claimed that in order to eradicate poverty all we need to do is
increase the monetary aid these underdeveloped countries. While Charles Kenny takes a more holistic
approach. He claims we should focus less income to determine development and focus more on
human development factors in order to gradually promote development. After reading both of these
books, I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially a five year project with the goal of proving Sachs s systematic, scientific approach to ending
poverty could be used on a grand scale in which case, millions upon millions of rural Africans would
be rescued from the poverty trap and lifted to the first rung on the ladder of development (38). His
assumption was that if it can achieve positive results in one village it would possible replicate in other
places as well. Yet, what he failed to understand was that poverty is not systematic. It is not organized
and the problems that causes poverty is not the same everywhere.
Another problem with his model was that it only looked at the problems that were on the surface, for
example in the millennium villages handbook entire chapter had been devoted to improving
agriculture yields, boosting school enrollment, and promoting gender equality. But nothing in the
handbook told the agents how to reduce crime (49). While model did have solution to basic problems
that were behind the cause of poverty, it did not take into deeper problems that could be preventing the
eradication of poverty. There were also cultural and religious beliefs and social conventions that
interrupted the project. When Ahmed, one of the agents of the Millennium Villages Project tried to
encourage the people of Dertu to cut grass in order to turn it into hay, he was met with opposition god
had brought us this grass, one man objected. it is not ours to cut (53). These people were hard to

Differences Between And Then There Were None And A Wrinkle...
In the movie productions of And Then There Were None and A Wrinkle In Time, the directors did not
follow the original storyline of the book. There are many differences between the books and the
movies, but there is also similarities. While most of the movie follows the storyline, there are some
changes made to the storyline. These changes made in the movie impacted the storyline a lot.
In A Wrinkle In Time, one of the biggest differences from the book is the plot sequencing in the
movie. The movie first starts with Meg at school daydreaming about her father and her talking with
each other on their stargazing rock, where in the book it starts with Meg talking about the

Samuel Mongeau Eel Lecture Summary
Guest Lecture Analysis: Eels by Samuel Mongeau
Samuel Mongeau s informative lecture about eels covered topics of the benefits and usage of eels in
Canadian society during the 16th century. Furthermore, Mongeau presents his lecture with a personal
but wide viewpoint on the significance of eels to Canadian history.
To begin, Mongeau acknowledges the limited research on eels as they are simultaneously dying
rapidly, with a 97% decline in the eel population since 1980. However, in the 16th century, there was
an abundance of eels in which they served multiple purposes, yet historical documents failed to take
note of these eels, for the primary focus was mainly on the fur trade. Nevertheless, eels served to be a
main survival food for the Indigenous peoples. Eels were incredibly populous along the St. Lawrence
river and they migrated seasonally during the winter months. This was optimal for survival purposes
because eels are high in fat and they were not a scarce resource at the time. Additionally, the large
population of eels helped to boost the national economy as it created an internal and external market in
Canada. In turn, this promoted the development of social institutions as the growing economy could
now afford to invest in such establishments. On the other hand, during the creation of New France 2.0,
Canada s economy substituted fur and eel trades with cod fish for they were more profitable and
valuable. This had progressed Canada into a more modern economy through ... Show more content on

Nine Anatomic Terms
The hip, one of the largest major weight bearing joints in the body. It s where the thigh bone also
known as the femur meets three other bones known as the pelvic bone. These bones create a ball and
socket joint which is when a ball shaped bone (femur) articulates with cup shape cavity of another
bone (pelvic bone). A ball and socket joint is also characterized as synovial joint. Synovial joints are
more complex joints that are held together by a capsule of dense connective tissue and filled with
synovial fluid that lubricates the joints. The joint capsule which is composed of large ligaments,
tendons, and other muscles keeps the hip from dislocating. The head of the femur and the socket of the

The femoral neck or intracapsular fracture occurs when the neck of the femur breaks and sometimes
the ball may move out of it s place. This type of fracture happens more likely with athletes and
performers. Over years there have been several methods orthopedists have used to fix femoral neck
fractures. In 1931, Smith Petersen used internal fixation by reducing pain and pressure to the fractured
parts followed by immobilization in a spica cast application. Until 1970 another widely spread method
called the multiple pin fixation technique was introduced by another orthopedist. In this method the
fracture fragments would heal with the insertion of Pugh nails and Richards screws. Both of these
methods include a sliding fixation process where the fractured fragments rub against each other. The
second type of hip fracture which is repaired more frequently is intertrochanteric hip fracture. The
intertrochanteric hip fracture occurs slightly below the neck of the femur and the lesser trochanter.
These fractures undergo a treatment that involves the insertion of AO proximal femoral or sliding
plates, intramedullary nails, cannulated or dynamic hip screws, and/or rods to balance and protect the
fractures. After the surgery, surgeries suggest that the patients stay in bed to make sure the fracture
does not occur again. The third type of hip fracture is subtrochanteric fracture. The

Origins of Madness in Humans Essay
No person is inherently mad; humans have caused other humans to drown their own sanity which can
then submerge that person into an ocean of madness. Historically, madness had become a common
occurrence with women due to several stress factors they must endure on a daily basis: finding a
husband, baring children, raising children, find a suitable job, retaining femininity, and more. Authors
Charlotte Gilman and Jhumpa Lahiri explored the psyche of two women who were facing very
stressful situations. Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper, introduces her readers to an unnamed nineteenth
century woman who is slowly falling into madness. The protagonist must endure the rest cure where

Women of the 19th century were under constant restraint due to how men believed they should act in
society. Women were not allowed to have jobs that men did not believe they were suitable for.
However women were allowed to take up jobs such as being servants, house wives, farmers, tailors, or
school teachers. Although these jobs were available to women it was up to the men to decide if a
woman could partake in such careers; men were the alphas of any household and had complete control
over women. Many women turned towards the arts to find purpose in their lives and to keep
themselves occupied, but even then men would find ways to retrain their creativity. Female characters
suffered the effects of isolation brought on by constant oppression driving them insane. The views of
women in early literature were being ignored by the men and society. If a woman happened to aspire
for such features like independence, self sufficiency and self fulfillment, which were reserved only for
nineteenth century men, this woman is considered selfish, unwomanly, and unchristian (Muhi, p.3).
Women of the 19th century who refused to abide by the social norms, what is called the Cult of True
Woman, would be labeled as being hysterical. 19th century feminist writers would usually portray
their protagonist characters as females who are mentally unstable. These portrayals of mad women
would be used to depict the struggles that woman of the Victorian time

The Role Of Ambition In Macbeth
Macbeth is a Shakespearean play which shows how ambition drives a person s life and how people are
constantly driven by uncontrolled ambition to better their lives. In the play, regardless of Lady
Macbeth and the witches, Macbeth is responsible for his own downfall. He is driven by ambition to be
viewed as a better man in the country and to be in control of his own fate. Uncontrolled ambition can
easily turn into insanity; plans should be led through intelligence and maturity in order to achieve
personal success and stay true to one self. If Macbeth has had followed his idea instead of his wife s

Macbeth compares light to the world around him, he does not want reality to see his inner desire.
Ultimately, we start to see Macbeth s different side such as cruelty and misery. Moreover, the witches
carry on giving him false apparition which built up his courage higher and higher. Therefore, the
witches played an enormous part in destroying Macbeth.
People should be ambitious in life to reach toward success, they should always seek to achieve their
personal goals for their own betterment, they should also plan for the unforeseen effects of their
operations, which otherwise could lead them the point where they end up losing. In Shakespeare s
play Macbeth displays all the traits of a tragic hero who is overwhelmed and murdered because of his
own covetous and self obsessed ambition. At the beginning of the play Macbeth is brave and respected
man, but as it goes along we start to see the reflection of his inner desire. I have no spur to prick the
sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o erleaps itself, and falls on th other ( I, VII, 25
28). Macbeth is hallucinating about killing the king, he does not have a clear reason for killing the
king except his unchecked ambition. Macbeth s ambition is not just an ambition it s more of obsession
or power hunger. The more strives excitedly to acquire or secure the highest

Bruce Tuckman s Stages Of Team Development
Grow your Team With Team Development Techniques
The team development model of:
Forming Storming Norming Performing was proposed in 1965 by American psychologist Bruce
Tuckman.
The Forming Storming Norming Performing model describes a set of stages in training that a group
must go through in order to be able to achieve maximum potential.
As the name implies, the Forming Storming Norming Performing model show the four ordered stages
a team must go through before they become like a well oiled machine.
Forming
The first stage of training, forming, is when the team is just getting to know each other. Each has his

integration of ideas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stage is when the concept of Forming Storming Norming Performing is introduced to the team.
Storming
This is the stage where the concepts of each member come together for the first time. This is where
members of the team experience their ideas being criticized, improved, and commented on by their
colleagues.
Storming not only refers to the concept of brainstorming , but also to the stormy stage of team
development.
Some immature members will not appreciate their ideas being criticized, and their behavior might
serve as a deterrent for the team to move on to the next stage of thier development.
It s up to the supervisor or team leader to decide how to deal with this kind of attitude.
Norming
Once the stormy phase is over the team reaches the stage where they start to work together
collectively. They re more familiar with each other s attitudes, work ethics, and tastes in terms of ideas
and work output.
What you should look out for in this phase, is the tendency for team members to completely lose their
individual tastes and ideas, and slowly become accustomed to agreeing with each other all the

suffered throughout all its campaigns during OIF. The United States and international media outlets

Food Will Win The War Chapter 1 Summary
Ian Mosby s Food Will Win the War is a comprehensive survey of the policy and social culture around
food in Canada during the Second World War. Divided into five distinct chapters Mosby s central
argument is that food served as a catalyst for cultural unity, evolution of political policy and definition
of gender roles during the period of the war. The five chapters of Food Will Win the War are divided
largely thematically rather than chronologically. Chapter s One and Five each stretch back a little
farther into the prewar and postwar period respectively to provide a proper narrative on the resolution
of the malnutrition crisis in Canada during this time. That said both bookend chapters discuss the
period of the war proper and also carry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially covering the same timeline the chapters differ by covering different thematic content.
Chapter Two largely deals with the rationing and price control Canadians faced during this period. The
key aspect of the culture surrounding these policies Mosby discusses is the remarkable popularity of
these measures and the implications of that popularity on Canadian culture and politics. The argument
is made that the measures lead to an enjoyed level of equality and unity amongst Canadians from
disparate backgrounds. This idea of national unity is also supported by the central topics of Chapter
Three in which Mosby tackles the concept of the housoldier. This is the term used to discuss the role
of Canadian women in volunteer labour and consumer practices centering around, unsurprisingly,
food. This chapter is probably the closest to what one would imagine a book entitled food will win the
war would contain but Mosby heavily incorporates social and gender history in order to present the
new situation of women during the course of the war. Similarly Chapter Four also expresses the
experiences of women but does so through different mediums. Heavily incorporating primary sources
Mosby examines recipes (the majority of which written by women) published in newspapers and
cookbooks in the time period. The blending of cultural and economic boundaries is used by to reiterate
the idea of a national unity and equality that simply did not transfer into the post war

The Anti Vaccine Movement Paper
Pierce Kurek
Anti Vaccine Movement Paper
4 September 2016 The first argument that I found compelling in the manner that someone with little
formal training in science might be susceptible to was the claim that there are unnatural and dangerous
chemicals and poisons in vaccines. Through looking at a short list provided by the Healthy Home
Economist, you can see things that would make any parent nervous: formaldehyde, aluminum,
mercury, antifreeze, and many more. These are dangerous chemicals, and the anti vaccine movement
argues that they should not be injected into the bloodstreams of children, which sounds absolutely
reasonable. However, the key here is dosage. A large dose of anything can be dangerous; you can
drown in water, or have your kidneys fail incurring hyponatremia if you drink too much water without
replenishing sodium lost through sweat during intense exercise. The same principle occurs here.
Formaldehyde is ever present in day to day life. It is found in car exhaust, household products such as
carpets, upholstery, and paint, and even in cough drops and mouthwash. In low doses, it is not
harmful. Aluminum is also consumed on a daily basis, with the average adult consuming 30 to 50 mg
per day through food, drinking water, and medicines. Vaccines that contain aluminum typically
contain .125 to .625mg, which is only 1% of what is consumed daily regardless of vaccination.
Mercury is perhaps the easiest to dismiss, as it naturally exists in breast milk and

have a positive outcome. It can be rude to a family, disrespectful to the other people that are around

Eating and talking on the phone or texting is not healthy to a person s digestive system. Stressful
mealtimes can cause medical conditions that can be harmful to a person s health, such as acid reflux.
Taking the cell phones out of a situation will make a person slow down and relax. Actually enjoy
eating a meal; instead of being hurried can be beneficial. Not being able to be on the phone during a
meal can give a person some relaxation time. Some people would argue that having their cell phone is
a necessity to their jobs, but a person has to have some personal time to enjoy their family and friends,
without the disruption of the phone ringing constantly. It is understandable if it is an emergency and
the person needs to answer the phone. Working constantly is not healthy for their wellbeing. Even if it
is another friend calling, it is rude to be with a person s family and be talking to someone else on the
phone. We have become a society that does not enjoy family time like it needs to. We only have our
children for a few short years. This time should be savored, not taken for granted. I think taking the

The Sirens In Homer s Odyssey
As a part of Greek mythology, sirens have made their way into many forms of literature throughout
history. They seem to always follow a given template for a seductive, tempting creature whose only
purpose is to lure men to their doom. In the two given poems, however, Homer and Margaret Atwood
use a variety of devices to present very different portrayals of the mythological sirens. From the
beginning of the excerpt of Homer s epic Odyssey, a very masculine tone is presented through
Odysseus s first person narration. The emphasis of details such as his two strong hands continues to
indicate that the poem will be carried out through a man s perspective, and as such, the encountered
sirens will be portrayed through the eyes and perceptions of Odysseus and his seamen. ... Show more

Deception And Identity Fraud In Twelfth Night
In our adaptation of Twelfth Night by Shakespeare, The Catch a Catfish miniseries we used the same
plot and theme of deception and identity fraud we saw in the play. How we adapted this was having
Omar showing his love towards Liv but it does not go as he has planned so he decides to get one of his
friends Violet to pose as a her twin brother who is off at college to woo Liv to get back at her for
dumping him. After Violet transforms into her brother for the prank and things start getting intense
between the two we have Toby, Olivia s cousin looking into the situation and begins to think
something is weird about the whole scenario so he decides to call Catfish the show to figure out
whether his cousin is getting pranked or not. After several

Theme Of Satan In Paradise Lost
Sympathy for Satan An Emotional Monster
(Analysis of Satan both psychological and physically as he is portrayed in Milton s Paradise Lost)
In John Milton s Paradise Lost, Satan is one of the major figures of the book. The poem s intense
focus on his temperament portrays psychological information of someone with a conflictive
personality, one that pushes and pulls at his emotions. Differing from his fellow fallen angels, he has
no regrets for his decisions and is a fearless leader, but in private his deeper, darker thoughts take hold.
Lisa Ampleman, a managing editor of the Cincinnati Review says he is not the absolute evil we may
have expected, and a sympathetic devil is a dangerous devil (Ampleman). This danger creates an
interesting story of the creation of man and how man came to fall just as Satan had. As ... Show more

One cannot help but believe that everything they do is for the greater good. As well as one cannot
deny the quest and thirst for power, humans constantly are driven by this thirst, driven to do evil
things to get what they want. Milton shows this side of Satan, the leader and epic hero of his own
story. Yet tragedy befalls him and he lays victim to his own pride and greed, making him the villain as
well. Satan knows this to be true and inevitable in the eyes of God. Satan says them himself through
his soliloquies. Barbara Lewalski, author of Paradise Lost and the Rhetoric of Literary Forms says that
Satan s soliloquy here still carries with it the literary significance in terms of his position in the poem,
the often insightful and emotional confession, as well as the overall impact of the tragedy itself
(Lewalski). In the end, Satan can t be a hero, and leaves him to take on the role of the villain because
his actions and emotions led him to

What Is Walt Disney s Legacy
A Legacy that Lives On Disney is worth around 165 billion dollars, it s hard to imagine that the man
that created this company was in debt most of his life (Greene). Walt Disney had many struggles in
this life, including debt, but he worked through them all. In the legacy unit, we have been researching
people that have left a tremendous impact on the world. Walt Disney is a perfect example because of
his tangible work such as his cartoons, movies, and of course Disneyland. As well as his wonderful
charisma and hard work.
Walt Elias Disney was born December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. When Walt was around ten years
Walt and his family moved to Kansas City. Walt s family consisted of his father (Elias Disney), his
mother (Flora Disney), and his four siblings (Roy, Raymond, Herbert, and Ruth). Walt was a kid who
cared less about school work, and more about having fun with it. He was known to draw on his
homework more than complete it. As he got older he started having jobs based around drawing.
Eventually, Walt decided to his own cartoon business (Greene). This small, inexperienced business is
what led to Mickey Mouse, then to various Disney movies, and to eventually to Disneyland.
Walt Disney accomplished many things in his lifetime. He has won 58 awards and had been
nominated for 46 times other awards (IMDb). He has won several Academy Awards, the Presidential
Medal of Freedom, and many more (IMDb) . But, some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Power Of Music In The 1960s
Music not only functions as a mean of recreation and pleasure. In fact, music has the capacity to unite
people and make change happen. All throughout history, music s compelling rhythms and melodies
accompanied with meaningful lyrics have been the backbone of many social movements. The power
of music has been long recognized, Plato in his Republic described it as Any musical innovation is full
of danger to the whole state, and ought to be prohibited. When modes of music change, the
fundamental laws of the state always change with them . Plato understood the potential danger of a
rebellion inspired by music and therefore, banned it altogether from his state.
The 1960s was a time of great political and cultural change for the United States. ... Show more

For example, Tunnel Vision by rap artist Kodak Black is a song that talks about police brutality and
how can society sometimes set African Americans up for failure. With lyrics like they don t like to see
you winnin . They want to see you in a penitentiary. In the song, Kodak talks about how he must keep
a tunnel vision since the way society is set up, he so could easily end up in jail. Another example
would be, heavy metal and Hardrock band Avenged Sevenfold which has recorded several singles
challenging society views. In one of their songs called Critical Acclaim , they call out President Bush s
Administration for the war in Iraq using lyrics like heart bleeds but not for fellow men , selfish agenda

The Crisis No. 1 Syntax
AP English per.2
2/23/13
The Crisis No. 1 As we read this passage it is full of different rhetorical strategies and the reason they
were put in there. The writer s style is the way he uses his language and the rhetorical strategies that
he might use to enhance his writing. As I read the passage I came across syntax which is the war he
puts his words to send the reader a message, and ad hominem arguing his point against the person
instead of the argument. The rhetorical used in the reading is used cleverly enough to prove a point.
One of the first rhetorical strategies he uses is syntax and the definition is the way an author chooses
to join words into phrases and sentences. The words he uses for his syntax are ... Show more content

It matters not where you live...the evil or the blessing will reach you. The reason why he uses you
repeatedly and often is to address them or you so you can feel personally committed to the words he is
saying. When he uses you instead of the colonist or people it is much stronger to use you there is a
personal connection with the speaker and the listener. The use of you is to feel personally committed
because in times like this people only worry about themselves and that s the nature of humans. The
nature of humans is always to care for themselves especially in hard situations when you are being
addressed personally you have that sensation that you must help yourself. The person speaking knew
that and addressed them personally as you in order to get his message through the people. It helped get
the message through the people and soon got what he wanted. In conclusion the passage is full of
rhetorical strategies like the ones I have used to describe the feelings of the man trying to send out his
message to the colonist and the syntax used as well as the pathos to show how he feels about the king
and the wrong choices he has been doing he is trying to get the colonist to go against him and things
would improve without his ruling. He used them well to prove a point and send his message; those are
good uses of rhetorical

Death And The Maiden Rationality
Rationality vs. Will Power: A Fight for Closure Psychological damage strikes the core of an individual
and can lead to irrational actions and poor judgement. Through an examination of Paulina Salas
actions throughout Death and the Maiden, Ariel Dorfman successfully characterizes her as a survivor
through her fight for closure. Although her ways may not seem rational, her fight symbolizes the
desperation felt by victims of the torture in Chile. This demonstrates that strength cannot always be
measured in rationality, but more so in the will power of an individual. This is seen in the way Paulina
acts towards Dr. Roberto Miranda, her reaction to Gerardo joining the Rettig Commission, and her
search for personal justice for the duration of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paulina believes there will be no justice for her, and when she finds out about Gerardo s new task, her
pursuit for what is right begins to develop, and Dorfman is able to characterize her as damaged and
wanting justice prior to the introduction of Dr. Miranda. Gerardo was appointed as the lawyer to the
Rettig Report created by the first democratic president Patricio Aylwin to investigate humans rights
violations following Augusto Pinochet s communist rule of Chile. The commission only pursued
violations ending in death or presumption of death and the idea is that if [the commission] throw light
on the worst crimes, other abuses will also come to light (9). Paulina starts to get edgy and starts
getting defensive towards Gerardo after she discovers the commission only investigates cases of
death, and this means Paulina would not receive a trial. This makes Paulina furious, as she was under
the impression that her and Gerardo would be able to put Paulina s torturer and the others all on trial.
Another key phrase that demonstrates Paulina s continuous fight for the justice she deserves is when
Gerardo refers to the cases he will investigate as the ones that are beyond let s say, repair. and Paulina
responds with Beyond repair. Irreparable, huh? (9) To Paulina, her case is beyond repair too, and to a
high degree. She is haunted to listen to Schubert, just because of her torture.

This Is Our Life Poem Comparison
Both of the poems mentioned that because of science fiction we are seeing the world differently.
Instead of seeing the real effects of how we are and what we do we see things to be a fantasy. Seeing
how we re not paying attention to the actual surroundings we don t really think about why things
happen. We just see things as normal because it s something we don t really think about. In the first
poem the opening started out with This is not a fantasy, this is our life. Throughout this poem it
mentions that we are the inventors and that we are the people who make the changes with our
surroundings. Being in charge of this gives us an important role on the things that we hold together.
The second poem just speaks about the negative things about this kind of genre because it denies how
things actually are. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They appear in many things telling us why our surroundings are a certain way and why we make
things be how they are. But the way that it is told on us it just makes us not see the reality of the things
and by that we don t really pay attention on what is occurring. The fact that people want to get rid of
the genre is reasonable because it s just like hearing false propaganda. We must be able to see how the
things we can cause and not be told we have nothing to do with everything that is around us. It s a bad
genre and the way it wants to get removed probably won t have a bad effect on people because then
they would need to stop believing the fictional things and start thinking about the things they

Argumentative Essay On Ancient Aliens
Aliens are also written in ancient history. There is also a television series called Ancient Aliens .
Ancient Aliens explores the controversial theory that extraterrestrials have visited Earth for millions of
years. From the age of the dinosaurs to ancient Egypt, from early cave drawings to continued mass
sightings in the United States, each episode in this hit HISTORY series gives historic depth to the
questions, speculations, provocative controversies, first hand accounts and grounded theories
surrounding this age old debate. (HISTORY.com). There are tons of things like ancient ruins, ancient
alien technology and origins written in history to support the belief and proof that aliens are real.
Drawn into a high plateau in Peru s Nazca Desert, a group of ancient designs stretching more than
fifty miles has astounded archaeologists for decades. Along with simple lines and geometric shapes,
drawings of animals, birds and humans have also been made, some measuring six hundred feet across.
From their colossal size, the drawings can only be viewed and appreciated from way up in the air and
there is no evidence that the Nazca people invented flying machines. According to ancient astronaut
theorists, the figures were used as guidelines for spaceships as they came in for landing, and the lines
served as runways. (listverse.com). Things that were created hundreds and hundreds of years ago, the
technology was not around to help make the creations that were made. The only logical reasoning
would be aliens helping people long ago.
NASA has made statements recently that suggest that the discovery of aliens is a matter of when,
rather than if. (newsweek.com). NASA even announced an indication that there may be life on one of
Saturn s sixty two moons. The Cassini spacecraft orbiting Saturn has already detected underground
saltwater oceans on the moon Enceladus and Australian National University astrophysicist Brad
Tucker says he is ninety five percent sure that NASA will announce it has discovered changing levels
of methane in the atmosphere a phenomenon driven by organic life, at least here on Earth.
(nypost.com). Jupiter s tiny moon Europa is scarred with brown veins that are suspected to

The Paradox Of Success Research Paper
Another discipline that widely displays the paradox of finding success through failure is science. In
science there have been many great success stories, where scientists have achieved their success
through failure. An example of this is Thomas Edison, who experienced many setbacks in life but did
not let that stop him from reaching his goals. Thomas Edison was one of the most productive
inventors in American history. With 1,093 U.S. patents and more in the United Kingdom, France, and
Germany, no other inventor has come close to Edison s output (Edison, 2007). His resiliency is what
led to him finally getting it right. On his failed attempts, Edison said,
I have not failed 10,000 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving ... Show more

Interestingly enough, Thomas Edison who also struggled with setbacks, was a close friend of Henry
Ford and urged him to pursue his dreams of manufacturing cars. Edison s past experience allowed him
to be able to give him this sound advice. It wasn t always easy for Ford, who grew up knowing that an
individual could get ahead in the world by working hard. But social or economic conditions were not
an excuse, (Ford, 2003). He worked very hard, despite his economic status to become the success that
he was and still is today. His work ethic and mindset are what pushed him to keep going, even when
things were not going his way. He stated, You can do anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is
the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the stars, (Ford, 2003). I really like this metaphor of success,
because it is completely true. If we are able to have enthusiasm towards what we are trying to
accomplish, we will be more likely to reach it. This is similar to what a wise professor of mine says, If
your not having fun, you re not learning. Which goes hand in hand with success as well, because if
you are not enjoying what you are doing than you will not have any motivation to

Prison Authority And The Prison System
Most people are aware that prisoners possess zero authority in the prison system. They have no control
over any aspect of their daily lives, but instead they are minded by prison jurisdiction. Prison guards
and wardens possess the power to do anything that they please within those brick walls. This is an
issue that society has been aware of for many decades; however, there has been little to no effort to
change the conditions. Many prisoners have sought to inform society of how these prison authority
figures abuse their power by producing many different types of media. One of those individual s is the
poet, and former prisoner Carolyn Baxter. While being incarcerated in the New York City women s
correctional facility, Baxter wrote a poem entitled 35 Years a Correctional Officer. In this poem she
expresses the motif of power by telling the story of a correctional officer who was in fact abusing her
authority to satisfy her own needs. Baxter reveals this motif by cunningly using the literary elements
of situational irony and tone. The correctional officer that Baxter talks about in this poem is
introduced as Ms. Goodall . Her name correlates with how her character is revealed throughout the
beginning of the poem. Baxter begins by stating, Ms. Goodall does not drink, swear, or masturbate ,
and then following up with, It s against God s will , she says (Baxter 1 2). With the previous quotes
Baxter reveals that Ms. Goodall has given everyone the impression that she is a

  • 2. Shelley s Frankenstein and Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Grey What makes a man a monster Stories of monsters have captivated readers attention since the very beginning even though the definition of what a monster is perceived to be is complex and vague. The word monster and its meaning in today s culture is very opinionated. Most people think of monsters in an evil sense because of what todays pop culture has depicted a monster out to be. Shelley s and Wilde s intentions for monsters were not to be taken out of context from how they originated. Shelly and Wilde saw monsters in the people and in the world surrounding them. Upon viewing this they recognized the true fear of determining one s identity. Once they viewed this event through the eyes of the people, they deemed necessary that they should provide a lesson by writing Frankenstein and The Picture of Dorian Gray. The lesson of the two books are that if the creator can not handle the responsibilities of the creation process, then the creation will fail. If the creation fails, then ultimately the creator fails and the true colors of mankind are shown. In the novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, the main character is Dorian Gray. Gray s persona is contradictory to itself in a way that one may not begin to comprehend him and his values, as not only a person but as a human being . He s good, he is bad; he is beautiful, he is hideous; he is perfect, he is incredibly flawed. Most importantly, he is literally two things at once he is himself, a living, breathing human ... • 3. While Modern Film Productions Have Lost The Ambitious... While modern film productions have lost the ambitious classicism of early cinema, the idea to view cinematography itself as a self governing construction of thinking has been carved into the history of continental philosophy. Due to the variety of material and conjecture, film manipulates the four dimensional reality in which we live our everyday lives in. From A quoi pensent les films?, Jacques Aumont, a French academic writer on film theory, states that film has the power of thinking in order to express that the art form has the ability to release us from the restriction of our realistic judgements and radical perceptions, producing a poetic and dreamlike reality. Film philosophers that were specifically intrigued in the mechanics of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henri Bergson, a French philosopher, declines this model theory by communicating that the cinematic adventure actively perceive time and movement all in one platform, his philosophy was the variance of material and spiritual actuality. In a counter exploration of Benjamin s ideals, when one looks at a clock they view purely different placements and positions of the clocks hands, but this act entails no specific spiritual connection to the viewer. The same logic of this situation compares to the example from Benjamin s. Only the single audience s encounter can determine the product. Exploring this theory, French philosopher Deleuze, who wrote on the philosophy of literature, film, and fine art, counters Benjamin s statement arguing that our mind does not need to put together the arbitrary components that is required to construct a piece but rather we can receive the information as a whole. In his two most popular books on cinema, Deleuze argues that because of Image Mouvement (Cinéma I) and Image Temps (Cinéma II), Deleuze moves to say films do not think with plain set images like paintings, which produce no mechanics to personify thought, but with movement images and time images. Movement images are explained as a scene of action the creates a reaction, producing the cycle of similar scenes. Time images are defined by Deleuze as a scene that is created entirely on thought. Not only do these two components provide the audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Is A Foreign Learning Experience What kind of foreign language learning experiences have you had? My first foreign language learning experiences go back to 1993 when I went to the English Institute. That was located in Benghazi, and run by professionals from Garyounis University. I learnt how to speak. I had to learn a short dialogue every day by heart. The students were given a short dialogue, as a home work, to read and learn by heart with learning the implication. No listening or writing skills. Only Reading and Speaking. Grammar points were pointed out by the teacher and explained. Also, the teacher would monitor our pronunciation and make correction when necessary. The learning process was mainly reading, memorizing and come the next day and practice what had been learnt with other learners. Having finished my secondary school studies, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have been keen on learning as I have always been in pursuit of learning anything related to the teaching English and language learning. I believe that a learner must be a high flier and ambitious to learn the language. I don t believe in spoon feeding. Learners should not be only receptive but also producers. Classroom activities are important and can make the whole class contribute and get into interaction. This will help learners to overcome their embarrassment and break the ice. Despite the long years of experiences and working as second language teacher, I still feel not satisfied with my standard. I believe my experience in teaching EFL in an English language environment has benefited me a lot, though. I would like to think my experience of teaching English to both adults and children has allowed me to contribute positively to any course of any group of learners of English. I believe my skills have developed and make my teaching more effective. With a Celta course I am quite sure it will help me to do very well in my job. Task ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Ron Moore A Same Kind of Different as Me Red River Parish, Louisiana is where this story of friendship begins. In this small town, plantation farms covered the land along with cypress and hardwood trees. Here we meet the first character, Denver Moore. Denver Moore is a slave, who knows his place in the world. He knows that white people have more power than him and his fellow slaves and because of that he avoids interaction with whites as best he can. In the first chapter, he risks his life by helping a white woman change her tire. Because of this one act of kindness towards white woman, he is dragged behind a horse with a rope around his neck by 3 boys not much older than Denver. Incidents like this were common in the 1950s because slavery was still a big problem even after President Abraham Lincoln declared all slaves free. Denver lives with his grandmother Big Mamma and his grandfather PawPaw. He lives with his grandparents because his mother was too young to raise him and his father abandoned them. Denver had an older brother named Thurman and a sister named Hershalee who both end up getting moved to different plantations. In the end of chapter three their ... • 6. Zephyr In Greek Mythology Language is a pivotal part of the foundation on which we have built society. Everyday people everywhere speak and hear thousands and millions of words. Although we use them so much, many people don t know where most of these words originated. More often than not, a word evolves into its current form from a similar word in an ancient culture. Many of the words we use now have evolved from Greek culture and Greek mythology; such words can be found in everyday language, medical terms, and even hidden in company and product names. The words zephyr, echo and narcissism are all very common words, and many people do not know they all actually originate from Greek myth. A zephyr in today s definition is a soft or gentle breeze, however, in Greek myth, Zephyr was the West Wind. An echo is a sound that is a repetition of another sound, the result of sound waves bouncing off of a surface like a wall. However, as told by Edith Hamilton, Echo was a nymph cursed by Hera to only be able to repeat things someone else says first. Furthermore, narcissism, meaning excessive self love, comes ... • 7. Religion And Religion The incorporation of religion into a person s life displays how a belief in gods can impact every facet of someone s life. The entirety of religion is based solely on faith and the willpower of someone s belief in what has been taught to them. In these teachings, through sacred texts, manuscripts, or orally transmitted; the basis of many religions is the idea of an object, person, or building being sacred. The reason something becomes sacred and is then believed to be sacred is because the sacred manifests itself and makes itself become known to man. This is what separates the religious man from the profane man, the idea that items can be sacred, and the belief that they are sacred. Eliade points out that the profane man experiences life uniformly neutral, he does not have something that shapes his life like religion does . The objective of religious architects was to separate the holy world and the profane world by utilizing sacred space to allow for a relationship between believers and the cosmos. In many religious systems around the world, there were thought to be three cosmic levels, heaven (or nirvana, etc.), earth, and hell (or the underworld, land of the dead, etc.). The religious man believed that the axis mundi , center of the world, linked all three cosmic levels together. The different religions had different centers of the world, and all of them were built using various types of architecture, which reflected their own specific culture. In Babylonia, ziggurats ... Body Wall Tendons Research Mark Jones Writing Assignment 2 BIOL 510 4/11/2017 Tendons are one of the most important tissues in the body of any organism, transferring the power created by the muscles to the bones and allowing coordinated body movements to occur. However, until recently there was very little known about the origin of this tissue and most of the research performed focused on the limbs and the tendons associated with them. Along with the limited amount of research it seemed that not of them were focused on the axial and ventrolateral body wall tendons. The two layers of sclerotome transplanted from quail to chick indicated that quail cells produced Scx tendon progenitors and sclerotome. While transplanted quail and host chick sclerotome indicated that the Scx expressing cells were entirely produced by quail cells. This observation suggested that Scx expressing cells between two layers of myotome form from the anterior and posterior edges to two adjacent somites. On the other hand, two adjacent dermomyotome layers did not produce any Scx expressing tendon progenitors but, it did produce myotome and dermotome. This observation lead to the conclusion that the dermomyotome produces myotome and the sclerotome produces the syndetome. These results raised the question: why is Scx expression only being observed on the anterior and posterior boundaries of the somite closest to the myotome and if a signal from the myotome was responsible for the observed ... It acted as a stimulus which guided us into a contrasting atmosphere; we are corresponding in that atmosphere in this very moment. However, that significant event was one of many. • 12. Negative Effects Of Urban Sprawl roduction: Urban sprawl is the rapid expansion in urban areas and includes the migration of the population shifting from rural areas to urban. According to research from the David Suzuki foundation, 80% of the canadian population now lives in urban areas. There are many factors and causes that contribute to why this urbanization and rapid change is occurring. Many of the reasons include the desire to live in the city where there are better living conditions, more job and education opportunities. Also, the lack of planning a city more efficiently is one of the most common reasons for urban sprawl. The more the population grows, the more trouble it begins to have on the people and environment. Urban sprawl comes with many direct and indirect negative effects. The overpopulation of humans means the more use of vehicles, which causes issues like air and water pollution, which has severe effects on the environment and human health. The overconsumption of water is also very serious issue that is linked to the over population and growth in urban areas. The number of people living in an area affects how much water is being consumed and how much of that water is being used efficiently. Lastly, the use of more land due to the high demand of development, and that affecting the wildlife and nature. Bonding is usually an action for people who have a connection to strengthen that relationship and make it more meaningful to both parties. The defining scene is when the two are on a boat in the middle of a lake catching fish for the group, as they learn more about their relationship and their respective relationships with their father. After this bonding, the dynamics between them change and they act much closer from thereon out. The Zombies cut off this resurrection immediately, as a walker bites Amy and kills her. I am sure there were things that went along with the work of evangelism in my life that I am unaware of. The discipline of servant evangelism is a critical need that has been neglected for years. Some churches have started doing it but most still want to hold to the historical ways of outreach that do not seem to work. Servant evangelism teaches that one must be willing, just as Jesus was, to get their hands dirty in order to see the lost saved. He looked for opportunities to show his love. The believer needs to adapt this into their daily life in order to help clear up the wrong perspectives of the gospel. My emerging biblical theology of evangelism is being enhanced in seeing different and more exciting ways to share the gospel. In order to change the view of many concerning the gospel we must let people see that they do not need to wash their hands after shaking the hand of a religious person. • 17. The Importance Of Family Stability And Childhood Development A look at Family Stability and Childhood Development In the past, scientists perceived the human brain as a rigid and predictable organ. According to them, based on a person s genetics, the brain developed in a predetermined way, endowing an individual with a level of learning capabilities and baseline intelligence (Stromberg). However, neuroscientists are beginning the recognize the brain as a responsive, constantly evolving organ that can change on several levels due to environmental influences and experiences (Stromberg). A series of studies have emphasized that although the brain can change for the better, it can also change for the worse. A child s brain is especially vulnerable to such effects and this research has shown that growing up in difficult circumstances can cause damage to a child s cognitive skills that last a lifetime. Without a doubt, family stability holds the greatest impact on a child due to the developmental outcomes and academic failure it ensues. A stable family provides a nurturing relationship between parent and child, which is essential for a child to continue movement along positive pathways in development. From the moment of conception to the initial steps into a classroom, early childhood development takes place at an alarming rate (Relationships). Consequently, raising a child is one of the most difficult yet important tasks for parents. The relationship parents build with their children shapes the way the child sees the world and affects ... Samuel Mongeau Eel Lecture Summary Guest Lecture Analysis: Eels by Samuel Mongeau Samuel Mongeau s informative lecture about eels covered topics of the benefits and usage of eels in Canadian society during the 16th century. Furthermore, Mongeau presents his lecture with a personal but wide viewpoint on the significance of eels to Canadian history. To begin, Mongeau acknowledges the limited research on eels as they are simultaneously dying rapidly, with a 97% decline in the eel population since 1980. However, in the 16th century, there was an abundance of eels in which they served multiple purposes, yet historical documents failed to take note of these eels, for the primary focus was mainly on the fur trade. Nevertheless, eels served to be a main survival food for the Indigenous peoples. Eels were incredibly populous along the St. Lawrence river and they migrated seasonally during the winter months. This was optimal for survival purposes because eels are high in fat and they were not a scarce resource at the time. Additionally, the large population of eels helped to boost the national economy as it created an internal and external market in Canada. In turn, this promoted the development of social institutions as the growing economy could now afford to invest in such establishments. In 1931, Smith Petersen used internal fixation by reducing pain and pressure to the fractured parts followed by immobilization in a spica cast application. Until 1970 another widely spread method called the multiple pin fixation technique was introduced by another orthopedist. In this method the fracture fragments would heal with the insertion of Pugh nails and Richards screws. Both of these methods include a sliding fixation process where the fractured fragments rub against each other. The second type of hip fracture which is repaired more frequently is intertrochanteric hip fracture. This idea of national unity is also supported by the central topics of Chapter Three in which Mosby tackles the concept of the housoldier. This is the term used to discuss the role of Canadian women in volunteer labour and consumer practices centering around, unsurprisingly, food. This chapter is probably the closest to what one would imagine a book entitled food will win the war would contain but Mosby heavily incorporates social and gender history in order to present the new situation of women during the course of the war. Similarly Chapter Four also expresses the experiences of women but does so through different mediums. Heavily incorporating primary sources Mosby examines recipes (the majority of which written by women) published in newspapers and cookbooks in the time period. The blending of cultural and economic boundaries is used by to reiterate the idea of a national unity and equality that simply did not transfer into the post war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States Government is in favor of the project for its economic benefit, while the Indian American tribes of Standing Rock are against the project due to the harmful implications that this pipe brings to their wellbeing and their heritage. • 37. The Anti Vaccine Movement Paper Pierce Kurek Anti Vaccine Movement Paper 4 September 2016 The first argument that I found compelling in the manner that someone with little formal training in science might be susceptible to was the claim that there are unnatural and dangerous chemicals and poisons in vaccines. Through looking at a short list provided by the Healthy Home Economist, you can see things that would make any parent nervous: formaldehyde, aluminum, mercury, antifreeze, and many more. These are dangerous chemicals, and the anti vaccine movement argues that they should not be injected into the bloodstreams of children, which sounds absolutely reasonable. However, the key here is dosage. A large dose of anything can be dangerous; you can drown in water, or have your kidneys fail incurring hyponatremia if you drink too much water without replenishing sodium lost through sweat during intense exercise. The same principle occurs here. Formaldehyde is ever present in day to day life. It is found in car exhaust, household products such as carpets, upholstery, and paint, and even in cough drops and mouthwash. In low doses, it is not harmful. Aluminum is also consumed on a daily basis, with the average adult consuming 30 to 50 mg per day through food, drinking water, and medicines. Vaccines that contain aluminum typically contain .125 to .625mg, which is only 1% of what is consumed daily regardless of vaccination. Mercury is perhaps the easiest to dismiss, as it naturally exists in breast milk and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There have been so many instances when I will be out eating with my family and look over at another table and a person will be in deep conversation on the cell phone, while their family is with them. There are many reasons why restricting cell phones could have a positive outcome. It can be rude to a family, disrespectful to the other people that are around that person, and when a family goes out together it should be family time. First is the fact that it is rude to a person s family. When a family plans an event that includes going out in public and having a meal together, it is expected by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eating and talking on the phone or texting is not healthy to a person s digestive system. Stressful mealtimes can cause medical conditions that can be harmful to a person s health, such as acid reflux. Taking the cell phones out of a situation will make a person slow down and relax. Actually enjoy eating a meal; instead of being hurried can be beneficial. Not being able to be on the phone during a meal can give a person some relaxation time. Some people would argue that having their cell phone is a necessity to their jobs, but a person has to have some personal time to enjoy their family and friends, without the disruption of the phone ringing constantly. It is understandable if it is an emergency and the person needs to answer the phone. Working constantly is not healthy for their wellbeing. Even if it is another friend calling, it is rude to be with a person s family and be talking to someone else on the phone. We have become a society that does not enjoy family time like it needs to. We only have our children for a few short years. This time should be savored, not taken for granted. I think taking the cell phones out of the equation would be beneficial for all the people involved. Restricting cell phone usage in public places can be beneficial to everyone involved. They seem to always follow a given template for a seductive, tempting creature whose only purpose is to lure men to their doom. In the two given poems, however, Homer and Margaret Atwood use a variety of devices to present very different portrayals of the mythological sirens. From the beginning of the excerpt of Homer s epic Odyssey, a very masculine tone is presented through Odysseus s first person narration. The emphasis of details such as his two strong hands continues to indicate that the poem will be carried out through a man s perspective, and as such, the encountered sirens will be portrayed through the eyes and perceptions of Odysseus and his seamen. ... Theme Of Satan In Paradise Lost Sympathy for Satan An Emotional Monster (Analysis of Satan both psychological and physically as he is portrayed in Milton s Paradise Lost) In John Milton s Paradise Lost, Satan is one of the major figures of the book. Differing from his fellow fallen angels, he has no regrets for his decisions and is a fearless leader, but in private his deeper, darker thoughts take hold. Walt Disney is a perfect example because of his tangible work such as his cartoons, movies, and of course Disneyland. As well as his wonderful charisma and hard work. Walt Elias Disney was born December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. When Walt was around ten years Walt and his family moved to Kansas City. Walt s family consisted of his father (Elias Disney), his mother (Flora Disney), and his four siblings (Roy, Raymond, Herbert, and Ruth). Walt was a kid who cared less about school work, and more about having fun with it. He was known to draw on his homework more than complete it. As he got older he started having jobs based around drawing. Eventually, Walt decided to his own cartoon business (Greene). This small, inexperienced business is what led to Mickey Mouse, then to various Disney movies, and to eventually to Disneyland. Walt Disney accomplished many things in his lifetime. The use of you is to feel personally committed because in times like this people only worry about themselves and that s the nature of humans. The nature of humans is always to care for themselves especially in hard situations when you are being addressed personally you have that sensation that you must help yourself. In conclusion the passage is full of rhetorical strategies like the ones I have used to describe the feelings of the man trying to send out his message to the colonist and the syntax used as well as the pathos to show how he feels about the king and the wrong choices he has been doing he is trying to get the colonist to go against him and things would improve without his ruling. Through an examination of Paulina Salas actions throughout Death and the Maiden, Ariel Dorfman successfully characterizes her as a survivor through her fight for closure. Although her ways may not seem rational, her fight symbolizes the desperation felt by victims of the torture in Chile. This demonstrates that strength cannot always be measured in rationality, but more so in the will power of an individual. Paulina believes there will be no justice for her, and when she finds out about Gerardo s new task, her pursuit for what is right begins to develop, and Dorfman is able to characterize her as damaged and wanting justice prior to the introduction of Dr. Miranda. Gerardo was appointed as the lawyer to the Rettig Report created by the first democratic president Patricio Aylwin to investigate humans rights violations following Augusto Pinochet s communist rule of Chile. The commission only pursued violations ending in death or presumption of death and the idea is that if [the commission] throw light on the worst crimes, other abuses will also come to light (9). Paulina starts to get edgy and starts getting defensive towards Gerardo after she discovers the commission only investigates cases of death, and this means Paulina would not receive a trial. This makes Paulina furious, as she was under the impression that her and Gerardo would be able to put Paulina s torturer and the others all on trial. Another key phrase that demonstrates Paulina s continuous fight for the justice she deserves is when Gerardo refers to the cases he will investigate as the ones that are beyond let s say, repair. and Paulina responds with Beyond repair. Throughout this poem it mentions that we are the inventors and that we are the people who make the changes with our surroundings. From the age of the dinosaurs to ancient Egypt, from early cave drawings to continued mass sightings in the United States, each episode in this hit HISTORY series gives historic depth to the questions, speculations, provocative controversies, first hand accounts and grounded theories surrounding this age old debate. (HISTORY.com). There are tons of things like ancient ruins, ancient alien technology and origins written in history to support the belief and proof that aliens are real. Drawn into a high plateau in Peru s Nazca Desert, a group of ancient designs stretching more than fifty miles has astounded archaeologists for decades. Along with simple lines and geometric shapes, drawings of animals, birds and humans have also been made, some measuring six hundred feet across. From their colossal size, the drawings can only be viewed and appreciated from way up in the air and there is no evidence that the Nazca people invented flying machines. According to ancient astronaut theorists, the figures were used as guidelines for spaceships as they came in for landing, and the lines served as runways. (listverse.com). They have no control over any aspect of their daily lives, but instead they are minded by prison jurisdiction. Prison guards and wardens possess the power to do anything that they please within those brick walls. This is an issue that society has been aware of for many decades; however, there has been little to no effort to change the conditions. Many prisoners have sought to inform society of how these prison authority figures abuse their power by producing many different types of media. One of those individual s is the poet, and former prisoner Carolyn Baxter. While being incarcerated in the New York City women s correctional facility, Baxter wrote a poem entitled 35 Years a Correctional Officer. In this poem she expresses the motif of power by telling the story of a correctional officer who was in fact abusing her authority to satisfy her own needs. Baxter reveals this motif by cunningly using the literary elements of situational irony and tone. The correctional officer that Baxter talks about in this poem is introduced as Ms. Goodall . Her name correlates with how her character is revealed throughout the beginning of the poem.
