The First Song The Piano
I.In the first song the cello was placed in front of the piano. The song was allegro to moderato. At
times it would speed up to allergo, but usually stayed at moderato. The song was also piano when the
tempo was moderato. when the song would pick up speed the sound was also rise to mezzo piano.
The second piece of the song started out as andante, but then quickly picked up to allegro or vivace.
The musicians was very into the music. You could follow the entire story of the music just with their
facial expressions.
The third piece of the song was fast or vivace and fortissimo. The song was almost rushed, as if
something bad had happened or the were running from something. it did not sound deep or dark at all
so maybe it was not bad.
II. The singer was placed in front of the piano, but staged so you could see them both. The entire song
was in French. They did have it translated on the screen, but something happened to the projector and
the lyrics were lost about half way through the first piece. This made it very hard to follow exactly
what was going on in the song. Yes, the lyrics were also in the booklet that we had, but I personally
did not want to be staring inside of a book. Much rather be watching them perform and their facial
expressions. What i could understand was a love/ heart break song. The song was andante to
moderato.
The second piece of the song was very vivance and forte. the impression i got from this piece was

The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie Analysis
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad takes place on the Congo River in Africa. Alongside the Congo
River the ivory company has stations of ivory set up and has natives working at it. Kurtz is a rich
European working for the company even though he may seem out of place with the starving Africans.
In the novel The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Jean Brodie, is a teacher at an all girls, catholic private
school and does not actually belong or fit in. She believes in teaching what she wants and thinks it is
more important than learning the school curriculum. Jean Brodie and Kurtz are actually very similar in
that they are in new situations, but face them differently. Kurtz is in a place with natives. Even though
he comes in and makes himself their leader, he is still un doubtfully different then them and tries to fit
in. While Jean Brodie knows she is different and does not try to fit into her surroundings, but does
pretend to at times. When we encounter Kurtz s home for the first time we recognize that there is no
gate, but there are poles with balls on top of them. As it says on page 52 There was no enclosure or
fence of any kind; but there had been one apparently, for near the house half a dozen slim posts
remained in a row, roughly trimmed, and with their upper ends ornamented with round carved balls.
These balls are actually human heads. The natives put human body parts to use after they are dead, but
the norm in Europe is not to do that. Now that Kurtz comes to the

Six Social Classes
As I ponder on my thoughts about what wealth, status, and power means in our society, I think about
the six social classes that typically define us as individuals: Upper Class, New Money, Middle Class,
Working Class, Working Poor, and Poverty Level. Personally, I would not place myself in any of the
six social stratifications listed above. However, I do not determine which class I fall under, society
does. Overall, society determines our wealth, status, and power based on the wealth, status, and power
we were brought into. I was raised by a single mother, with little education, who continues to
physically and mentally exhaust herself at work every day in order to provide money for the bills,
food on the table, and our other needs. Both my

Theme Of The Birds By Alfred Hitchcock
Psycho is a classic horror/thriller directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock made in 1960. It
followed Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who stole $40,000 in order to be with her lover, and stopped at
the Bates Motel, owned by the psychotic split personality Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), along the
way, and is murdered by Bates, which catalyses an investigation into Norman and his mysterious
mother. Psycho explored in depth the psychosis of its characters and how it connected to Kübler Ross
model of grief, and utilized filmmaking techniques, such as mise en scène and motifs, to demonstrate
this characteristic of its characters.
Hitchcock demonstrated his auteurism in his use of a bird focused motif, a recurring theme in not only
Psycho but also his other works, The Birds (1963) in particular, and demonstrated this motif through
use of mise en scène. Norman Bates was a hobbyist taxidermist, and took particular interest in birds.
His office was decorated with stuffed birds of both predator and prey. In close up shots of the
conversation between Norman and Marion Crane (a bird name), Norman was often framed with a
predatory bird in a low angle shot, designed to make him appear intimidating. Marion, on the other
hand, was framed alongside prey birds in a high angle shot, which showed her defenselessness. This
filmmaking technique signified the juxtaposition between Norman and Marion, where Marion was
weak preyed upon by the powerful predatory Norman Bates. This relationship is

Ethics, Metaphysics, Religion, Epistemology, And Anthropology
Introduction
Philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence. After taking
this course, I have a stronger understanding of what philosophy is and how my life is based around
everyday theories and ideas. Before beginning this course, I had no prior knowledge on what
philosophy was or how important it is for an individual s success. Ethics, Metaphysics, Religion,
Epistemology, and Anthropology are five main philosophy topics that I related to quite easily. Many
different philosophers and their theories were easy for me to understand along with relating to them in
hopes of becoming a better individual based on the lessons each topic provides.
Ethics Ethics can be defined as a set of moral principles that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In class we discussed the existence of God along with life after death. Having a religious background
allows me to understand metaphysics and reality, considering my faith revolves around the existence
of God and life after death. Being Lutheran, I do believe in God and the powerful gifts/events that are
intertwined with God. Life after death is a sore subject for many individuals regardless of their
religious beliefs, but I believe that people either are sent to heaven or hell. Yin and Yang Theory The
Yin and Yang Theory provided more information than I had ever known about this theory. I found Yin
and Yang relatable because I have two adoptive Chinese sisters. While walking around through the
streets of China, I hear a lot of discussions regarding Yin and Yang (good or bad). I believe that there
is a difference between good or bad and that the imbalance might not be evenly divided like the
Chinese population states.

Joan Didion On Keeping A Notebook
While it s a rather misleading title, the essay On Keeping a Notebook by Joan Didion doesn t talk
about how to keep a notebook, but rather why you should. She expresses her belief that a notebook is:
...something private, about bits of the mind s string too short to use, an indiscriminate and erratic
assemblage with meaning only for its maker (Didion, 87) . Which, in other words, means a notebook s
contents are information, often small bits , that would only make sense, or have meaning, to the person
who wrote it. Throughout the essay, Didion describes multiple random things that mean nothing to
her, but were emotionally significant at the time she wrote them. Personally, I thought the tone used
for both telling and talking about those memories seemed very nostalgic to her. Journals can be a way
to remember who we were in the past, how we had thought and things we ve done. Over time we
forget things, and keeping a journal helps us relive both significant and insignificant events in our life
that otherwise would have been blurred, or forgotten over the course of our lives. ... Show more

and surprise us, come hammering on the mind s door at 4 a.m. of a bad night and demand to know
who deserted them, who betrayed them, who is going to make amends. (Didion, 88) . I think is very
relatable to most people, as I can remember many a night, and day for that matter, where my mind

Essay on Traditional African Music
Traditional African Music
An attempt to pin down a single meaning for the word traditional, presents a problem in many ways.
The implications of the word are many, and are tied to various connotations. Some people, Westerners
in particular, may actually shun the traditional, as they feel that it implies a resistance to modernity.
This view is incorrect, and there exists an ethnocentric double standard when Westerners consider
their tradition versus African tradition. Others focus on tradition as that which has always been done,
for whatever reason, and that it must be continued to maintain the community, a universal balance, a
relationship with the gods, or some other goal. Africa and its people have experienced many hardships

and the extent to which tradition is acceptable varies within societies, based particularly on the
importance of tradition in music, a societal perception of time, and the junction of maintaining
tradition yet still managing to progress.
?Out with the old and in with the new,? and ?new and improved,? are just two phrases that express the
Western view of the ancient or already existing as needing improvement or change. Alan Merriam?s
description of the Western perception of tradition seems to encapsulate the essence of Western life.
Rather than taking time to enjoy the moment and the current situation, or to relish the beauty of the
arts, there is always an agenda, a purpose, a final goal. There seems to be no such idea of the present
as a time in which to take a break and relax. Instead of ?projecting our future out in front of us as a
possible horizon of action, thus throwing a perspective on our past as presently experienced,?
Westerners experience the present as that which is already past, and choose to focus on the future.i
The future represents a time when everything can be faster, better, stronger, more efficient, more high
tech, in other words, continually moving away from tradition, when it is defined as the old. In a
strange way, this goal oriented way of experiencing life is itself becoming tradition. With
industrialization and modernization, the desire for all aspects of life to be superlative

Turkey is a country poised between Asia and Europe. This country of 71 million people is crucial to
economic developments as it lies between producers and consumers, supply and demand. While seen

Its secular government has a long history of struggles between those who feel their country s identity

Bedtime Stories As Told By Our Dad Who Messed Them Up
This past December I had the honor of being a clown for Perry High School s children show, Bedtime
Stories As Told by Our Dad Who Messed Them Up which means I watched the show three different
times excluding dress rehearsal and any practices I attended. Two performances were held on
December 1st and one performance was presented on December 2nd. On Friday, December 1st
children from Perry Elementary schools and St. Joan of Arc were bussed to the high school to watch
the show. The clowns were given the job of seating these energetic excited little youngsters who were
hilarious and so interactive. Every time one of the actors would ask an open ended question the kids
would shout what they thought the answer was. There was one moment when one of the characters
was trying to figure out Rumpelstiltskin s name so she listed names which could be correct. Most of
the kids shouted No! when she would list a name but there was one kid in the back who kept on
shouting his name and the clowns in the back were cracking up. Despite all the distractions coming
from the audience, the performers did a great job staying in character. ... Show more content on

teenagers who most likely thought we looked really stupid. The performers didn t let the lack of

Presidency And The Media Essay
Presidency: The Strategies of the Media Richard Elliot Neustadt, a profound political scientist and
advisor to many presidents, has often argued over the years that presidential power is probably best
understood as the power to persuade. Over the years, the presidency has evolved from what our
Founder s had to endure and has now turned into an obsession with news media. The President of the
United States is the most powerful being in our country with the ability to control what Americans can
and cannot know for better or worse. The presidency and news media have a more complicated
relationship than what others might say. There are times where the president is more than willing to
cooperate with the news, but there is also an equal amount of time where the presidency and the press
are at odds. In our country s lifetime of presidents, there have been numerous attempts and

Conservation Of Mass Lab
The law of conservation of mass states that matter can be changed from one form into another,
mixtures can be separated or made, and or substances can be decomposed, but the total amount of
mass remains constant. Taking this law from a different view we can state that the total mass of the
universe remains constant. Whenever matter undergoes change the total mass of the products will be
the same as the total mass of the reactants. For example, in this experiment sodium hydroxide and
copper sulfate, the reactants have a total mass of 21.4 grams. The total mass of the products, copper
hydroxide and sodium sulfate, was 21.13 grams. The 0.27 grams was a result of the solution staying
on the thermometer that was used to measure the temperature. This law was formulated in the end of
the 18th Century. It marked the beginning of modern history. ... Show more content on

The most noticeable of them was oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen. It was also known then that when a
metal was heated in the air it became and oxide, this change was accompanied by an increase in mass.
An example of an oxide is magnesium oxide. This happens when magnesium, a metal, reacts with the
oxygen when it burns. An example calculation is when the mass of the reactant, magnesium, is 2.39
grams and the product, magnesium oxide (MgO) is 3.78 grams. (LearnChemistry) We can see a
noticeable change in the mass. It must therefore mean that oxygen from the air must have been
absorbed. The total amount of oxygen absorbed is 1.39 grams. This reaction can be reversed by
heating the magnesium which releases the oxygen and returning the metal, magnesium, into a pure
metal.

How Are The Characters Presented In The Summoner s Tale
The Canterbury Tales Essay In modern society, most people are politique. Some are willing to perform
cunning and disgraceful acts if that is what it takes to achieve their goals. This behavior is present in
the tales told in The Canterbury Tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer. The Canterbury Tales is a

The Friar tells a story about a summoner who is a treacherous thief (P. 294). The summoner was
directed by an archdeacon from church to collect tributes from sinners so the sinners will not be put
onto the list to go to hell. But then he also takes more than half of the money for himself which he
shouldn t. Then one day he meets a fiend who pretend to be a yeoman. They swore to be brothers to
their dying day (P. 296). The summoner was planning to take money from the yeoman since the start
but he still swore brotherhood with the yeoman. This shows that the summoner is dishonest with the
yeoman. The summoner is always ready with a word, as full of venom as a butcher bird (P. 296). The
summoner is planning to take money from the yeoman by using his speech to making the yeoman tell
him his secret. This is a cunning and shameful action to take as a church member. In the end of the
tale, the fiend dragged him, body and soul, to join the troupe in hell, where summoners have their
special shelf (P. 302). The summoner went to hell because he didn t do his job properly and performed
cunning acts. The summoner didn t expect himself to be the one to be dragged down since he is
always the one who faces those who committed sins. But he wasn t able to escape his faith. While
blackmailing others that they will go to hell, he was the one who went instead. Just like the phrase the

Realism In Woods Of Ashokan

Mexican And American Family Traditions

How An Enterprise Data Warehouse ( Edw ) Can Help Manage...
Abstract
High risk patient populations are generally small, however, they account for a large portion of
healthcare costs. For example, the costs to Medicare for treating heart failure (HF) exceeds $17 billion
a year, with readmissions contributing significantly to the cost (Health Catalyst, 2016). These costs are
unsustainable, which why the US healthcare system is beginning to shift towards alternative payment
structures like value based reimbursement (VBR). To remain successful in this changing landscape,
healthcare organizations (HCOs) will need to improve how they manage high risk patient populations.
Health information technology could be a tool that helps. This paper explores the benefits of how an
enterprise data warehouse (EDW) can help HCOs manage their population of high risk patients. This
paper also recommends the type of EDW best suited to handle complex healthcare data and provides a
framework for a phased implementation

Not A Witch, By The Sound Of A Grievous Witch
I was convinced that she was truly not a witch, by the sound of a grievous witch I had trust in her, I
am weak for sure that I had a childish behaviour that concluded my fate, but how would I know They
knew her for what she was, as evil they called her. I lived next door to her, I would watch her upon
nights and day in my window, brushing her silk hair as if it needed brushing, she seemed so lost, she
seemed indelicate, but I never knew her, It was impossible to say she is a witch, with long hair and
indifferent eyes, they seemed brown, but they had mystery in them, her face pale enough to call them
dry snow as if she wasn t even living, trapped . she lived in the north side and her house was painted
in a very curious dark blue, there seemed to be no plain living thing, her land contained not a strand of
green grass growing, usually I wondered when I reached my door and seem rather odd to me, but was
I curious enough, not at all I had heard stories about her, she seduced men and they never came out of
the house every again. I felt it was a mere story, no one understood it may be a rather a myth, never
real. I made up my mind, my weak heart won so I decided to refine the women, the Grievous witch a
regarding chance. Certainly, I fell for the woman beauty, even when I knew, she had a loving eye
darkened by the hue, it was intimidating, but rather warm and sad, you would think I am a stupid man,
which I agree, I frequently said hello she would smile and not say,

Rhetorical Analysis Of How To Be 100
It is quite interesting to know how long people live, and what is the average lifespan of a human
being. Dan Buettner longevity expert in his presentation How to Live to Be 100+ argues the lifestyle
from the world s longest lived people and provide a model for extending our longevity through natural
movement and purposeful living. He shows how we can compare our lifestyle to those living in the
Blue Zone s and what we can take away from their routines, diets, exercise and other beliefs. In
addition, it is important to look at our current lifestyle and habits, if we are living in a way that is
going to help us reach our potential maximum life span. With the right lifestyle, there are chances that
we may live up to a decade longer. I agree with the Blue Zones lifestyle. In order to live longer and

For people in the blue zones it comes in natural as Buettner says, they were either born into or they

to surround yourself with family members and good friends who you could share your stories with
them. Having a good, system of support not only enables peoples to help each other, but also enables
them to express their feelings, including happiness and sadness s and other aspect of confidence. For
example, when we are feeling bad everything in the world seems differently to us, because our bad
mood can affect our thinking process, but talking to someone you trust or a good friend who shares
your value could propose a good solution that can help to reduce your stresses and find away to solve
your problem. Therefore, being connected with good people is a natural way to decrease stress and

Tips Help You Deal With Unwanted Parenting Advice
As soon as you become a mother everyone around you starts acting like a parenting expert or
childcare specialist. Your parents, in laws, friends, cousins, colleagues, neighbors and even random
people you meet in supermarkets or bus journeys offer you generous doses of advice on what you
should and should not do as a parent. Unwanted and unsolicited advice from strangers can be
dismissed easily with a passive smile or an um, thanks . But things can get hard when harmless, yet
annoying parenting advice comes from your family members or people you know personally. Here are
a few tips to help you deal with unwanted parenting advice:
1. Don t dismiss every advice
Parenting is a hard task in itself and it can become harder when you have a bunch of people around
you giving directions and instructions. The danger of keeping yourself exposed to a plethora of advice
is that you start losing perspective after a while. You lose the ability to identify good advice from bad.
There can be people who are genuinely trying to help you out because they have undergone what you
are going through right now. That your colleague asked you to stop succumbing to toddler tantrums
may only mean she too has a tantrum throwing kid. The primary rule here is not to dismiss every
advice that comes your way. Keep your head calm and try to identify if an advice is stemming from
genuine concern or a need to sound knowledgeable.
2. Listen before you speak
It is quite natural to feel defensive when people

How Does Nagaina Change Throughout The Novel
Characterization is how a character is defined. We understand characters in the literature by paying
attention to what they say, what they do, and how other characters react to them. In Rikki Tikki Tavi
by Rudyard Kipling, Rikki Tikki, a young brave mongoose who has been washed out of his burrow
due to a high summer flood. He found himself in the garden of a nice human family who adopts him
and he decides to protect the human family from snakes. In the garden, he met the bullies, Nag and
Nagaina. They both fight with each other for the control of the garden. In the end, Rikki Tikki Tavi
killed them and made the garden a peaceful place. Based on the clues from the text, Nagaina can be
characterized as evil.

there were three eggs to kill, Rikki Tikki heard Darzee s wife screaming that Nagaina went into the
house. Rikki Tikki raced toward the house. When he went into the house he saw that Nagaina was
holding the family hostage, so he could see them getting killed. On page 25 author mentioned, ...stay

The Mediation of The Concept of Balance in the Tao Te...
The mediation of the concept of balance in the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu;
The way is cluttered with constant imagery of contradictory views which are both compelling and
insightful, through which we are taken on a journey, our final destination being the true meaning of
life. In a world where we are all yearning for the meaning for life, true harmony and real balance it is
no surprise that the Tao Te Ching is a very haunting piece of literature that holds the reader in an
almost trans like state of mind as it attempts to portray the way to accomplish the above.

However simultaneously during this time of anarchy and imperialism there were many different
cultural and religious sects forming in China. This provides the modern day reader with one of the
main obstacles from fully comprehending the text seeing as it cannot be approached from a mere
linguistic point of view, as to do this a comparison between various translations would be necessary.
Having said this, to overlook the one link in all of the translations would be impossible. That being the
image of equilibrium it tries to obtain by putting forward two almost totally opposing concepts and
within them making the reader to ponder on it for a while and sieve out the rightful meaning. Which
makes it almost like mathematical formula that just has to be applied, this is present in the translation
of the Tao Te Ching by Stephen Mitchell and Stanley Lombardo also in the translation done by
Thomas Cleary and C. Lau.
A clear example of this sense of equilibrium is in the second chapter as is talks about the necessity of
the presence of both extremes so that one can appreciate both, invariably proving that the only way to
recognize things is to accept the opposite of it, be it a good or bad thing. It is a simple equation of
comparison plus balance which equals to tranquil understanding but the real task is putting that into
practice. Therefore having and not having arise together.

Stereotypes About Stereotypes
Do we suffer from having stereotypes about and against us? Of course, we ve all had those
experiences where we were held up to a certain standard based on our culture and race. It puts labels
about how a person should act or live according to their sex, race, personality, and other factors. This
could influence individuals who like different things or do different activities, but feel ashamed of
doing so because of stereotypes. We should learn not to judge and perceive people because of what we
think they should be like, and should change our point of view about the stereotypes that are in our
society. In the end, self perception is the only thing that can make or break us.
Presently, people choose to stereotype because I believe we like the idea of labeling ourselves and
others. We stereotype people when we are reluctant to gather the information we need to make a fair
judgement about people or situations. Richard Rodriguez was one of the many people to be
stereotyped. His writing Blaxicans talks about dealing with immigrants who vary of different races
that are entering our borders today. He spends a large portion of his article pointing out that racial
variety is not a new concept in the US. Rodriguez believes that the problem is because a person s
culture is determined by what makes them feel comfortable, and not by what color skin they have or
where they come from. Younger generations no longer see a separation between different cultures, but

United States V. Gordon E. Thomas III Case Study
United States v. Gordon E. Thomas III: Understanding the Effects
Criminal profiling refers to the inference of offender characteristics. Historically, the use of criminal
profiling can be traced back to 38 C.E. when Jews were wrongfully accused of blood libel, also known
as the kidnapping and murdering the children of Christians for religious rituals during Jewish holidays
(Turvey, 2012). As time progressed, criminal profiling has evolved into the study of crime and
criminal behaviors, including mental health and physical evidence surrounding a crime that has been
committed in an attempt to identify a likely suspect. However, the validity of scientific evidence as a
whole was challenged in the 1993 Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, 509 U.S. 592. In this
case, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the trial judge was the gatekeeper to prevent junk science
from entering the courtroom and outlined standards, also known as Daubert standards, for expert
testimony including, testing, peer review, error rates and acceptability (Turvey, 2012). ... Show more

The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot
T.S. Eliot s most famous poem The Wasteland, a grim picture of post war London is analyzed as being
the most important poetic work of the twentieth century. The first glance at this poem leads one to the
conclusion that the content of this piece is bleak and depressing. The assumption can be made that
Eliot has diagnosed his society with a terminal disease, which he chooses to describe through his
poem. After further analyzing The Wasteland it can be seen that out of the dust of this barren place
there shines a light of hope. In this decayed hole among the mountains/In the faint moonlight, the
grass is singing (361 62). The decaying world being serenaded by the grass under the moonlight
reinforces the idea that out of desolation, something wonderful can be found or created. Eliot scatters
The Wasteland with motifs in the setting that directly contrast to the fertile periods of society in
previous years. Eliot intentionally manipulates an obscure water motif in order to illustrate nature and
life. Just like water is constantly altered in structure through its path, Eliot s poem continually changes
due to his literary structure of writing: stream of consciousness. It is strange to think of a description
of a barren land being writhe with water. Eliot discusses a drought in a desolate dessert, yet also talks
about the abundance of it in the drowning of the Phoenician Sailor. He seemingly contradicts himself
in his discussion. Water is a symbol of fertility, how can this

Contention 2: Adoption of Metric System is Feasible Thinking metric won t be hard
Judge, the metric system is a very simple unit of measurement that is simple to understand because it
is easy to convert and easy to use.
Also, schools are already teaching the metric system along with the English system in day to day
classes. Aside from education, almost all, water bottles, thermometers, and food bags already include
metric measurements along side them.
Thinking metric is easy. For example, thinking metric for temperature means relating zero degrees
Celsius with the freezing point of water, 20 degrees Celsius with room temperature, 37 degrees
Celsius with body temperature, and 100 degrees Celsius with the boiling points of water.

Working in partnership is essential to the development of children and young people in the early years

Modern Pain Therapies For Pain Management Essay
1 Introduction
Despite all the advances erupting from therapeutic research, current treatments for pain management
remain inadequate. The efficacies of modern pain therapies are challenged by adverse tolerability
profiles, unfavourable side effects, concerns with long tern use and potential for misuse or abuse
(Carven Roberts, 2013). While the major analgesic medicines on the market today include narcotic
(opioids) and non narcotic analgesics, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and heat
therapy (Carven Roberts, 2013), engineered biologics are emerging as a promising approach to
reconcile various inadequacies of existing pain therapies, since they can be manufactured with
capacities such as target specificity to minimize unnecessary, adverse reactivity.

The Gospel Of Wealth Summary
Industrialist Andrew Carnegie was born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland in November of 1835 to a
family of handloom weavers, a group hit remarkably hard by the mechanization of the textile industry.
Abandoning the minimal expectations and the now almost invaluable job of weaving in the Scottish
industrial cities, Carnegie s family emigrated to the United States in 1848. After years of work and
experience in the expansion of the steel industry, Carnegie obtained a general logic of arguments about
labor to the broader realm of social relation, giving specific attention to the role of private upper class
wealth in a democratic society. His article Wealth, later known as The Gospel of Wealth, was
published in the North American Review in June of 1889. In his writing, he rejected the traditional
goals of charity and depended on less carefully discriminating between the worthy and unworthy
recipients than on attacking the roots causes of inequality/ distribution of wealth themselves. Carnegie
believed that wealth should be invested in the useful ventures for the sake of public being rather than
using money frivolously and ineffectively. The most fitting view in the fact of having surplus wealth
of the few becomes the property of the many, will help our society become more elevated, as Carnegie
explains. (Carnegie 2) With such strategies, the wealthy are more willing to give their wealth, while
they are alive, rather than have their wealth taken from by taxes when

The Greatest Single Cause Of The War Essay
The greatest single cause of the war was the system of secret alliances which developed. How far do
you agree with this interpretation on what caused World War One. The first world war between the
triple entente and the triple alliance is said to be the first modern war. A previously unseen number of
human lives were lost on both sides and because of this when the war ended it came to be known as
the war to end all wars as said by the former president of the United States Woodrow Wilson. The
interpretation above is correct but only to a certain extent, one must understand and fully asses all the
factors of the war before making a judgement. There are two clear origins for the start of WW1, long
term origins and short term origins. Both must be analysed and assessed properly in order to make a
just statement in regard to the main cause of WW1. There are four generalised long term origins of the
first world war, Nationalism, Imperialism, Militarism and the world war one alliances. However, it
must be stated that the long term causes of the war are far more complex and must be dissected and
analysed in depth before truly understanding the long term causes of the war. A short term analysis
aims to explain why the war began when it did, how and why the European powers went to war and
how the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of

Essay On Psychological Torture
It is illegal for American soldiers, military personnel, and other agents to inflict physical torture upon
anyone. As a result, America has turned to psychological torture, where the rules are more hazy and
undefined. Unfortunately, psychological torture often will affect the victim in ways that will last much
longer than most forms of physical torture. One of these methods of psychological torture is music,
and it is used to inflict pain in several different ways. The FBI has previously used music and other
noise in order to disorient members of the opposing side during sieges in 1993, and also used music in
interrogation, especially in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay during the War on Terror following 9/11

physical contact, this form of torture will greatly affect the victim psychologically, in ways that are
arguably much worse and longer lasting than nearly anything that could physically be done to them.
The fact that this form of torture is done in the name of American citizens puts a weight on American s
shoulders they should not have to bear. If an American citizen would not want to be victim to this
form of torture by music, they should not have to carry the weight of this act being done to someone
else. Music as violence is more likely to leave lasting psychological problems, and thus makes it
worse than physical

The majority of the teaching I a do is to 16 19 year olds although I have taught adults in the past. It is
a more reciprocally rewarding experience teaching motivated learners. I would like to move into
teaching in a prison or in another environment that enables disadvantaged individuals to improve their
lives. I am subject to continual observation by my peers, my tutors and sometimes outside agencies
such as OFSTED. One of these Ofsted visits has highlighted the need for me to qualify to level 3 in
Carpentry. I will therefore have to achieve this, or at least be working towards it, this year. I have put
in several requests for extra help for those who have need of learning assistance over the last two
years that I have worked for Milton Keynes College. This has sometimes been found wanting in my
opinion. We have excellent assistants just not enough of them. After feedback from my peer
observation and my students in know I am not the only one who feels this way. I will chase this issue
this year. I enclose two peer observation records, one graded and one supportive (see Appendix A). I
also ask my students for feedback on their classroom experience. This is done using the college
Conversation Record paperwork. I have included three of these in Appendix B. My employer
facilitates in house professional development. There is a record of these training sessions in Appendix

Baseball s Influence On American Culture
Baseball is often referred to as America s pastime and a symbol of American culture. Baseball has
long stood as an integral part of the American way of life. Yet, for nearly one hundred years of its
professional life a significant portion of the population was banned from participating in baseball at
the Major League level. Some of America s most talented ballplayers were forced to play in leagues
that provided little support or opportunity. Because of an unwritten rule, baseball s hierarchy
prevented African American men from playing on the same team as white men, even if the African
American men s talents far exceeded that of their white counterparts. Baseball s eventual integration
would change the face of American culture and upend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Tygiel pointed out, the Negro Leagues profits did not even begin to pick up until after the
conclusion of World War II. While many players in the Negro Leagues had just as much talent as
Major Leaguers, black players were never granted the same recognition as their white counterparts.
While white players were able to live fairly comfortable lifes as ballplayers, blacks lived lives of
difficulty. Seasons were very long in the Negro Leagues, often topping out around 200 games. Unlike
in the majors where teams would remain in the same city for three or four days, Negro League teams
usually found themselves in a new location for every game. Teams had to travel in order to get by and
some even ended up playing in Latin American in order to earn more money. The average pay for a
black player ranged from $125 to $300 a month which when compared with white players was less
than 50% of what the white players made. Negro League teams were also smaller and players were
expected to be versatile on the field. It is sometimes argued that many black players exceeded white
players in ability. Sadly, due to lower attendance rates, black players often had to put on shows before
their games just to attract a crowd according to Tygiel in The Negro

How Does Edwidge Danticat Use Juxtaposition In Kirk Krak
When living in Haiti at the time of this book, you would see the harsh realities people , have to face
daily. The author of the book Kirk Krak, Edwidge Danticat, uses juxtaposition to clearly paint a
picture of this. She shows the ugly truth about Haiti during this time through the use of the characters
that face problems both good and bad every day. Juxtaposition is a very dynamic, hard to define, and
can be difficult to point out at times. However, in the examination of the short stories one can find that
it can be defined as the sheer difference between two totally different things.in the book Kirk Krak,
there are a series of short stories in which the author Edwidge Danticat utilizes juxtaposition to create
characters abandoned by their loved ones to in return create an overall sense of isolation. The specific
examples that best display characters that are abandoned that help create this overall sense of isolation
would be a depressed father, a childless maid, and a love struck girl.
In the short story, A wall of rising fire , the main character guy leaves his beloved family in ... Show

The story starts off with letters between the two, and in those letters the girl makes her love for the
boy very clear I told my papa that I loved you... I love you until the hair shivers at the thought of
anything happening to you (pg22.) from this quote you can see her deep love for the boy and her not
wanted anything bad happening to him. Which by the end of the story she kind of realizes he is never
going to come back, however there is a possibility that he might. I see mountains, and behind those
mountains are more mountains still... I feel like those mountains are pushing me further away from
you (pg26)The girl s love for the boy and the shift of her realization that he might not return ties

Building Faith Community From Day One
Building Faith Community From Day One
As an architect in a Catholic school, the principal bears the load of responsibility for setting the tone
for each school year and as an architect of Catholic culture, is to connect the school s core values and
beliefs to Christ and the Gospel intentionally, deliberately, and continually. (Cook, 2001, p. 20) The
principal, being the spiritual leader of the school, helps support the Catholic school s mission and the
xxxx of the Catholic identity of the school. They must lead through example and build the faith
community. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops states that Within such communities
teachers and pupils experience together what it means to live a life of prayer, personal responsibility
and freedom reflective of Gospel Values. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 1973, p. 30)
During the first week of school is when the mission of the school and the Gospel Values or the core
beliefs and values of Catholic schooling, should be reveled and xxx to the faith community. My vision
would be to reveal the Gospel values of Faith and Love and the greatest link for those is prayer.
Prayer
The National Directory for Catechist states that faith must be know, celebrated, lived, and expressed in
prayer. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2005, p. 60) Prayer is a direct path to growing
closer with God and it is fundamental task of a catechist to teach others how to pray. Prayer is a way

Gulag Prisons
Prisoners in the labor camp slaved away at construction, building a majority of the Soviet Union s
economic infrastructure. The prisoners who lived in the Gulag produced miles of railroads to canals,
working tremendously, Gulag prisoners constructed the White Sea Baltic Canal, the Moscow Volga
Canal, the Baikal Amur main railroad line, numerous hydroelectric stations, and strategic roads and
industrial enterprises in remote regions (The Gulag 1). This provides representations of what
structures the prisoners were involved in building. It s worth knowing that these prisoners contributed
enormous amounts for the Soviet Union. Without the labor camps filled with prisoners to do the hard
work, the Soviet Union would not have made progress as quickly as it did. In the article The Gulag ...

The camps strength was also put towards agriculture and commodities such as mining and lumbering
(The Gulag 1). The proposal of prisoners being used for something other than construction is
significant because it demonstrates the other portion of economic infrastructure they produced for the
Soviets. The production of these assets granted the labor camp superiors to not constitute it
themselves, which is why the prisoners became such an imperative resource. Overall, the outcome of
the task guided the Soviet Union to rely on their strength in numbers.
During the peak of corrective labor colonies , each camp held around 2,000 10,000 inmates and
consisted of people arrested at collectivization, anyone who opposed the Communist party, and many
innocent victims who never committed any crimes (Gulag 1). The number of prisoners working in
forced labor camps was extensive and continued to grow for many years, The Gulag had a total inmate
population of about 100,000 in the late 1920s when it underwent an enormous expansion coinciding
with the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin s collectivization of agriculture. By 1936

Chewing Gum In School
Have you ever needed something to chew on in school? I think that schools should allow kids to chew
gum in class. I believe that kids at our school and in any school should be able to chew gum in class.
The reasons for this are that chewing gum helps students get good grades and that chewing gum helps
students stay focused and on task during work times in our daily school schedule. One reason that
chewing gum should be allowed in every school is because it miraculously helps students score better
on tests and schoolwork in general. According to psu.org chewing gum can help your memory. Also,
according to CNN chewing gum can help with dental hygiene. One reason that chewing gum should
be allowed in schools is that chewing gum leads to students

  • 2. The First Song The Piano I.In the first song the cello was placed in front of the piano. The song was allegro to moderato. At times it would speed up to allergo, but usually stayed at moderato. The song was also piano when the tempo was moderato. when the song would pick up speed the sound was also rise to mezzo piano. The second piece of the song started out as andante, but then quickly picked up to allegro or vivace. The musicians was very into the music. You could follow the entire story of the music just with their facial expressions. The third piece of the song was fast or vivace and fortissimo. The song was almost rushed, as if something bad had happened or the were running from something. it did not sound deep or dark at all so maybe it was not bad. II. The singer was placed in front of the piano, but staged so you could see them both. The entire song was in French. They did have it translated on the screen, but something happened to the projector and the lyrics were lost about half way through the first piece. This made it very hard to follow exactly what was going on in the song. Yes, the lyrics were also in the booklet that we had, but I personally did not want to be staring inside of a book. Much rather be watching them perform and their facial expressions. What i could understand was a love/ heart break song. The song was andante to moderato. The second piece of the song was very vivance and forte. the impression i got from this piece was almost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie Analysis Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad takes place on the Congo River in Africa. Alongside the Congo River the ivory company has stations of ivory set up and has natives working at it. Kurtz is a rich European working for the company even though he may seem out of place with the starving Africans. In the novel The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Jean Brodie, is a teacher at an all girls, catholic private school and does not actually belong or fit in. She believes in teaching what she wants and thinks it is more important than learning the school curriculum. Jean Brodie and Kurtz are actually very similar in that they are in new situations, but face them differently. Kurtz is in a place with natives. Even though he comes in and makes himself their leader, he is still un doubtfully different then them and tries to fit in. While Jean Brodie knows she is different and does not try to fit into her surroundings, but does pretend to at times. When we encounter Kurtz s home for the first time we recognize that there is no gate, but there are poles with balls on top of them. As it says on page 52 There was no enclosure or fence of any kind; but there had been one apparently, for near the house half a dozen slim posts remained in a row, roughly trimmed, and with their upper ends ornamented with round carved balls. These balls are actually human heads. The natives put human body parts to use after they are dead, but the norm in Europe is not to do that. Now that Kurtz comes to the ... Six Social Classes As I ponder on my thoughts about what wealth, status, and power means in our society, I think about the six social classes that typically define us as individuals: Upper Class, New Money, Middle Class, Working Class, Working Poor, and Poverty Level. Personally, I would not place myself in any of the six social stratifications listed above. However, I do not determine which class I fall under, society does. Overall, society determines our wealth, status, and power based on the wealth, status, and power we were brought into. I was raised by a single mother, with little education, who continues to physically and mentally exhaust herself at work every day in order to provide money for the bills, food on the table, and our other needs. • 5. Theme Of The Birds By Alfred Hitchcock Psycho is a classic horror/thriller directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock made in 1960. It followed Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who stole $40,000 in order to be with her lover, and stopped at the Bates Motel, owned by the psychotic split personality Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), along the way, and is murdered by Bates, which catalyses an investigation into Norman and his mysterious mother. Psycho explored in depth the psychosis of its characters and how it connected to Kübler Ross model of grief, and utilized filmmaking techniques, such as mise en scène and motifs, to demonstrate this characteristic of its characters. Hitchcock demonstrated his auteurism in his use of a bird focused motif, a recurring theme in not only Psycho but also his other works, The Birds (1963) in particular, and demonstrated this motif through use of mise en scène. Norman Bates was a hobbyist taxidermist, and took particular interest in birds. His office was decorated with stuffed birds of both predator and prey. In close up shots of the conversation between Norman and Marion Crane (a bird name), Norman was often framed with a predatory bird in a low angle shot, designed to make him appear intimidating. Marion, on the other hand, was framed alongside prey birds in a high angle shot, which showed her defenselessness. This filmmaking technique signified the juxtaposition between Norman and Marion, where Marion was weak preyed upon by the powerful predatory Norman Bates. This relationship is ... After taking this course, I have a stronger understanding of what philosophy is and how my life is based around everyday theories and ideas. Before beginning this course, I had no prior knowledge on what philosophy was or how important it is for an individual s success. Ethics, Metaphysics, Religion, Epistemology, and Anthropology are five main philosophy topics that I related to quite easily. Many different philosophers and their theories were easy for me to understand along with relating to them in hopes of becoming a better individual based on the lessons each topic provides. • 7. Joan Didion On Keeping A Notebook While it s a rather misleading title, the essay On Keeping a Notebook by Joan Didion doesn t talk about how to keep a notebook, but rather why you should. She expresses her belief that a notebook is: ...something private, about bits of the mind s string too short to use, an indiscriminate and erratic assemblage with meaning only for its maker (Didion, 87) . Which, in other words, means a notebook s contents are information, often small bits , that would only make sense, or have meaning, to the person who wrote it. Throughout the essay, Didion describes multiple random things that mean nothing to her, but were emotionally significant at the time she wrote them. Personally, I thought the tone used for both telling and talking about those memories seemed very nostalgic to her. Journals can be a way to remember who we were in the past, how we had thought and things we ve done. Over time we forget things, and keeping a journal helps us relive both significant and insignificant events in our life that otherwise would have been blurred, or forgotten over the course of our lives. ... • 8. Essay on Traditional African Music Traditional African Music An attempt to pin down a single meaning for the word traditional, presents a problem in many ways. The implications of the word are many, and are tied to various connotations. Some people, Westerners in particular, may actually shun the traditional, as they feel that it implies a resistance to modernity. This view is incorrect, and there exists an ethnocentric double standard when Westerners consider their tradition versus African tradition. Others focus on tradition as that which has always been done, for whatever reason, and that it must be continued to maintain the community, a universal balance, a relationship with the gods, or some other goal. Africa and its people have experienced many hardships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... and the extent to which tradition is acceptable varies within societies, based particularly on the importance of tradition in music, a societal perception of time, and the junction of maintaining tradition yet still managing to progress. ?Out with the old and in with the new,? and ?new and improved,? are just two phrases that express the Western view of the ancient or already existing as needing improvement or change. Alan Merriam?s description of the Western perception of tradition seems to encapsulate the essence of Western life. Rather than taking time to enjoy the moment and the current situation, or to relish the beauty of the arts, there is always an agenda, a purpose, a final goal. There seems to be no such idea of the present as a time in which to take a break and relax. Instead of ?projecting our future out in front of us as a possible horizon of action, thus throwing a perspective on our past as presently experienced,? Westerners experience the present as that which is already past, and choose to focus on the future.i The future represents a time when everything can be faster, better, stronger, more efficient, more high tech, in other words, continually moving away from tradition, when it is defined as the old. In a strange way, this goal oriented way of experiencing life is itself becoming tradition. With industrialization and modernization, the desire for all aspects of life to be superlative ... Two performances were held on December 1st and one performance was presented on December 2nd. On Friday, December 1st children from Perry Elementary schools and St. Joan of Arc were bussed to the high school to watch the show. There was one moment when one of the characters was trying to figure out Rumpelstiltskin s name so she listed names which could be correct. Presidency And The Media Essay Presidency: The Strategies of the Media Richard Elliot Neustadt, a profound political scientist and advisor to many presidents, has often argued over the years that presidential power is probably best understood as the power to persuade. Over the years, the presidency has evolved from what our Founder s had to endure and has now turned into an obsession with news media. The President of the United States is the most powerful being in our country with the ability to control what Americans can and cannot know for better or worse. The presidency and news media have a more complicated relationship than what others might say. There are times where the president is more than willing to cooperate with the news, but there is also an equal amount of time where the presidency and the press are at odds. Conservation Of Mass Lab The law of conservation of mass states that matter can be changed from one form into another, mixtures can be separated or made, and or substances can be decomposed, but the total amount of mass remains constant. Taking this law from a different view we can state that the total mass of the universe remains constant. Whenever matter undergoes change the total mass of the products will be the same as the total mass of the reactants. For example, in this experiment sodium hydroxide and copper sulfate, the reactants have a total mass of 21.4 grams. The total mass of the products, copper hydroxide and sodium sulfate, was 21.13 grams. The 0.27 grams was a result of the solution staying on the thermometer that was used to measure the temperature. An example calculation is when the mass of the reactant, magnesium, is 2.39 grams and the product, magnesium oxide (MgO) is 3.78 grams. (LearnChemistry) We can see a noticeable change in the mass. It must therefore mean that oxygen from the air must have been absorbed. The total amount of oxygen absorbed is 1.39 grams. The summoner is always ready with a word, as full of venom as a butcher bird (P. 296). Despite my parents home being Mexico, they started a family in America and decided to teach their children about both of the places they come from. For example, the costs to Medicare for treating heart failure (HF) exceeds $17 billion a year, with readmissions contributing significantly to the cost (Health Catalyst, 2016). These costs are unsustainable, which why the US healthcare system is beginning to shift towards alternative payment structures like value based reimbursement (VBR). To remain successful in this changing landscape, healthcare organizations (HCOs) will need to improve how they manage high risk patient populations. Health information technology could be a tool that helps. This paper explores the benefits of how an enterprise data warehouse (EDW) can help HCOs manage their population of high risk patients. Your parents, in laws, friends, cousins, colleagues, neighbors and even random people you meet in supermarkets or bus journeys offer you generous doses of advice on what you should and should not do as a parent. Unwanted and unsolicited advice from strangers can be dismissed easily with a passive smile or an um, thanks . But things can get hard when harmless, yet annoying parenting advice comes from your family members or people you know personally. Here are a few tips to help you deal with unwanted parenting advice: 1. Don t dismiss every advice Parenting is a hard task in itself and it can become harder when you have a bunch of people around you giving directions and instructions. The danger of keeping yourself exposed to a plethora of advice is that you start losing perspective after a while. You lose the ability to identify good advice from bad. There can be people who are genuinely trying to help you out because they have undergone what you are going through right now. That your colleague asked you to stop succumbing to toddler tantrums may only mean she too has a tantrum throwing kid. The primary rule here is not to dismiss every advice that comes your way. Keep your head calm and try to identify if an advice is stemming from genuine concern or a need to sound knowledgeable. 2. Of course, we ve all had those experiences where we were held up to a certain standard based on our culture and race. It puts labels about how a person should act or live according to their sex, race, personality, and other factors. This could influence individuals who like different things or do different activities, but feel ashamed of doing so because of stereotypes. We should learn not to judge and perceive people because of what we think they should be like, and should change our point of view about the stereotypes that are in our society. In the end, self perception is the only thing that can make or break us. Presently, people choose to stereotype because I believe we like the idea of labeling ourselves and others. We stereotype people when we are reluctant to gather the information we need to make a fair judgement about people or situations. Richard Rodriguez was one of the many people to be stereotyped. His writing Blaxicans talks about dealing with immigrants who vary of different races that are entering our borders today. Historically, the use of criminal profiling can be traced back to 38 C.E. when Jews were wrongfully accused of blood libel, also known as the kidnapping and murdering the children of Christians for religious rituals during Jewish holidays (Turvey, 2012). As time progressed, criminal profiling has evolved into the study of crime and criminal behaviors, including mental health and physical evidence surrounding a crime that has been committed in an attempt to identify a likely suspect. However, the validity of scientific evidence as a whole was challenged in the 1993 Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, 509 U.S. 592. • 31. The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot T.S. Eliot s most famous poem The Wasteland, a grim picture of post war London is analyzed as being the most important poetic work of the twentieth century. The first glance at this poem leads one to the conclusion that the content of this piece is bleak and depressing. The assumption can be made that Eliot has diagnosed his society with a terminal disease, which he chooses to describe through his poem. After further analyzing The Wasteland it can be seen that out of the dust of this barren place there shines a light of hope. In this decayed hole among the mountains/In the faint moonlight, the grass is singing (361 62). The decaying world being serenaded by the grass under the moonlight reinforces the idea that out of desolation, something wonderful can be found or created. Eliot scatters The Wasteland with motifs in the setting that directly contrast to the fertile periods of society in previous years. Eliot intentionally manipulates an obscure water motif in order to illustrate nature and life. Just like water is constantly altered in structure through its path, Eliot s poem continually changes due to his literary structure of writing: stream of consciousness. It is strange to think of a description of a barren land being writhe with water. Eliot discusses a drought in a desolate dessert, yet also talks about the abundance of it in the drowning of the Phoenician Sailor. He seemingly contradicts himself in his discussion. While the major analgesic medicines on the market today include narcotic (opioids) and non narcotic analgesics, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and heat therapy (Carven Roberts, 2013), engineered biologics are emerging as a promising approach to reconcile various inadequacies of existing pain therapies, since they can be manufactured with capacities such as target specificity to minimize unnecessary, adverse reactivity. The Gospel Of Wealth Summary Industrialist Andrew Carnegie was born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland in November of 1835 to a family of handloom weavers, a group hit remarkably hard by the mechanization of the textile industry. Abandoning the minimal expectations and the now almost invaluable job of weaving in the Scottish industrial cities, Carnegie s family emigrated to the United States in 1848. After years of work and experience in the expansion of the steel industry, Carnegie obtained a general logic of arguments about labor to the broader realm of social relation, giving specific attention to the role of private upper class wealth in a democratic society. His article Wealth, later known as The Gospel of Wealth, was published in the North American Review in June of 1889. In his writing, he rejected the traditional goals of charity and depended on less carefully discriminating between the worthy and unworthy recipients than on attacking the roots causes of inequality/ distribution of wealth themselves. Carnegie believed that wealth should be invested in the useful ventures for the sake of public being rather than using money frivolously and ineffectively. The most fitting view in the fact of having surplus wealth of the few becomes the property of the many, will help our society become more elevated, as Carnegie explains. How far do you agree with this interpretation on what caused World War One. The first world war between the triple entente and the triple alliance is said to be the first modern war. A previously unseen number of human lives were lost on both sides and because of this when the war ended it came to be known as the war to end all wars as said by the former president of the United States Woodrow Wilson. The interpretation above is correct but only to a certain extent, one must understand and fully asses all the factors of the war before making a judgement. There are two clear origins for the start of WW1, long term origins and short term origins. Both must be analysed and assessed properly in order to make a just statement in regard to the main cause of WW1. There are four generalised long term origins of the first world war, Nationalism, Imperialism, Militarism and the world war one alliances. However, it must be stated that the long term causes of the war are far more complex and must be dissected and analysed in depth before truly understanding the long term causes of the war. A short term analysis aims to explain why the war began when it did, how and why the European powers went to war and how the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg played a part in the start of the war. • 42. Essay On Psychological Torture It is illegal for American soldiers, military personnel, and other agents to inflict physical torture upon anyone. As a result, America has turned to psychological torture, where the rules are more hazy and undefined. Unfortunately, psychological torture often will affect the victim in ways that will last much longer than most forms of physical torture. One of these methods of psychological torture is music, and it is used to inflict pain in several different ways. The FBI has previously used music and other noise in order to disorient members of the opposing side during sieges in 1993, and also used music in interrogation, especially in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay during the War on Terror following 9/11 (Johnson and Cloonan, 151, 2009). Music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If music is played to prisoners for hours on end at volumes that are tremendously loud, it doesn t just break down their willpower. Music as torture disorients a person so much that the victim is reduced to an infantile state of psychic helplessness (Lingis, 152, 2017), and is not simply reduced to impotence, helplessness, but to a state of ever greater dependency on his or her torturer (Lingis, 153, 2017). The victim is left with a total loss of identity, and completely relies on his torturer. Despite there being no physical contact, this form of torture will greatly affect the victim psychologically, in ways that are arguably much worse and longer lasting than nearly anything that could physically be done to them. The fact that this form of torture is done in the name of American citizens puts a weight on American s shoulders they should not have to bear. If an American citizen would not want to be victim to this form of torture by music, they should not have to carry the weight of this act being done to someone else. Music as violence is more likely to leave lasting psychological problems, and thus makes it worse than physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have put in several requests for extra help for those who have need of learning assistance over the last two years that I have worked for Milton Keynes College. This has sometimes been found wanting in my opinion. We have excellent assistants just not enough of them. • 44. Baseball s Influence On American Culture Baseball is often referred to as America s pastime and a symbol of American culture. Baseball has long stood as an integral part of the American way of life. Yet, for nearly one hundred years of its professional life a significant portion of the population was banned from participating in baseball at the Major League level. Some of America s most talented ballplayers were forced to play in leagues that provided little support or opportunity. Because of an unwritten rule, baseball s hierarchy prevented African American men from playing on the same team as white men, even if the African American men s talents far exceeded that of their white counterparts. Baseball s eventual integration would change the face of American culture and upend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Tygiel pointed out, the Negro Leagues profits did not even begin to pick up until after the conclusion of World War II. While many players in the Negro Leagues had just as much talent as Major Leaguers, black players were never granted the same recognition as their white counterparts. While white players were able to live fairly comfortable lifes as ballplayers, blacks lived lives of difficulty. Seasons were very long in the Negro Leagues, often topping out around 200 games. Unlike in the majors where teams would remain in the same city for three or four days, Negro League teams usually found themselves in a new location for every game. Teams had to travel in order to get by and some even ended up playing in Latin American in order to earn more money. The average pay for a black player ranged from $125 to $300 a month which when compared with white players was less than 50% of what the white players made. Negro League teams were also smaller and players were expected to be versatile on the field. It is sometimes argued that many black players exceeded white players in ability. Sadly, due to lower attendance rates, black players often had to put on shows before their games just to attract a crowd according to Tygiel in The Negro ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. How Does Edwidge Danticat Use Juxtaposition In Kirk Krak When living in Haiti at the time of this book, you would see the harsh realities people , have to face daily. The author of the book Kirk Krak, Edwidge Danticat, uses juxtaposition to clearly paint a picture of this. She shows the ugly truth about Haiti during this time through the use of the characters that face problems both good and bad every day. Juxtaposition is a very dynamic, hard to define, and can be difficult to point out at times. However, in the examination of the short stories one can find that it can be defined as the sheer difference between two totally different things.in the book Kirk Krak, there are a series of short stories in which the author Edwidge Danticat utilizes juxtaposition to create characters abandoned by their loved ones to in return create an overall sense of isolation. The specific examples that best display characters that are abandoned that help create this overall sense of isolation would be a depressed father, a childless maid, and a love struck girl. (Cook, 2001, p. 20) The principal, being the spiritual leader of the school, helps support the Catholic school s mission and the xxxx of the Catholic identity of the school. They must lead through example and build the faith community. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 1973, p. 30) During the first week of school is when the mission of the school and the Gospel Values or the core beliefs and values of Catholic schooling, should be reveled and xxx to the faith community. • 47. Gulag Prisons Prisoners in the labor camp slaved away at construction, building a majority of the Soviet Union s economic infrastructure. The prisoners who lived in the Gulag produced miles of railroads to canals, working tremendously, Gulag prisoners constructed the White Sea Baltic Canal, the Moscow Volga Canal, the Baikal Amur main railroad line, numerous hydroelectric stations, and strategic roads and industrial enterprises in remote regions (The Gulag 1). This provides representations of what structures the prisoners were involved in building. It s worth knowing that these prisoners contributed enormous amounts for the Soviet Union. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The camps strength was also put towards agriculture and commodities such as mining and lumbering (The Gulag 1). The proposal of prisoners being used for something other than construction is significant because it demonstrates the other portion of economic infrastructure they produced for the Soviets. The production of these assets granted the labor camp superiors to not constitute it themselves, which is why the prisoners became such an imperative resource. Overall, the outcome of the task guided the Soviet Union to rely on their strength in numbers. During the peak of corrective labor colonies , each camp held around 2,000 10,000 inmates and consisted of people arrested at collectivization, anyone who opposed the Communist party, and many innocent victims who never committed any crimes (Gulag 1). The number of prisoners working in forced labor camps was extensive and continued to grow for many years, The Gulag had a total inmate population of about 100,000 in the late 1920s when it underwent an enormous expansion coinciding with the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin s collectivization of agriculture.
