Bike is a Syd Barrett masterpiece which appears on The Piper At the Gates of Dawn (1967).
Ostensibly written for Syd s then girlfriend Jenny Spires, we take a quixotic notion that the song
references, if not deliberately, then synchronistically, the first self administered dose of LSD.
In 1943, inventor of LSD Albert Hoffman intentionally ingested 250 micrograms of LSD to
determine its effects. He subsequently took a bicycle ride during which he succumbed to the drugs
effects causing him to feel anxiety, a sense of going insane, and the belief that his neighbor was a
malevolent witch.
The events of this first LSD trip have come to be known as Bicycle Day.
Like the black monolith discovered on the moon in Stanley Kubrick s 2001: A Space Odyssey,
the album Dark Side of the Moon (1973) stands as a monolith to all of psychedelic rock. The

For this interview assignment, I interviewed my close friend Franki s mother, Deborah. Deborah

philosophy of leisure time and the goals in life.
The Person s Political Beliefs
Deborah considers herself a republican and believes that she is very conservative. She believes
that everyone should work for what they want in and from life rather than depend on someone else
s resources such as welfare. I then asked her about the current political issues such as abortion,
LGBTQ, illegal immigrants etc. Deborah considers herself a pro life. She believes abortion should
be illegal throughout the country, but with the exception of rape and amniocentesis; detects

every child should have the opportunity to be born in this beautiful world and nobody should be

Shaun Tan is an Australian author and illustrator of the silent graphic novel, The Arrival. It is an
illustrated story depicting the shared moods of refugees when they take the plunge and move
from their home because of a dangerous factor. It is a story of every migrant, refugee and
displaced person. Tan has created this silent graphic novel using certain techniques to captivate
his audience. These techniques include; Symbolism, Prominence of visual elements and the use
of colors and shades. The two pages which display these techniques are 111 and 112. Elements
Symbolism In the arrival, pages 111 and 112, the changing of seasons is depicted with a tree
changing form, growing to wither and back. A tree which bears fruit or leaves is often a sign of

show a tree withering to create another layer full of life spreading its seeds. Later it then bears
fruit for the surrounding animals to feed off and then withers away to a skeleton. This may

Getting the job, I would work an 8 hour shift (could receive overtime). Becoming a State Trooper
comes with some hazards but many benefits such as could be shot or run over but in the long run
