Goodfellas Film Analysis
Based on a true story, Goodfellas is arguably one of the best gangster movies made. The 1990 s
film is about a man named Henry who grows up in the mob. It tells the ups and downs of not only
his story, but what it takes to be in a mob. Many mob styled movies focus on one thing only, the
murder. While Goodfellasis based around murder, there is much more to it. You are shown what
it does to people, how it corrupts families and changes people s outlook on life. You are shown
the betrayal of people you call family . This is what makes Goodfellas one of the greatest mob
movies ever made. Films need something to keep the viewers interested or they will not be
successful. Goodfellas has that special something that keeps you hooked the whole... Show more

There could be a great screenplay and a great director, but if the right people are not casted, the
whole movie can flop. Ellen Lewis, the casting director for Goodfellas, did an amazing job. When
you have a lineup consisting of Ray Liotta , Joe Pesci (Tommy) and the great, Robert De Niro
(Jimmy), you have something special. The chemistry between the three is something you do
not just find anywhere. The bond between their characters is very believable and the transition
into their dark times comes naturally. When things get tough for the three, relationships are
tested and things go downhill at a rapid velocity. Being in a mob, you have to be careful who
you mess with and when one of these men whacks the wrong guy, things go from bad to worse.
The directing of the story makes it easy to understand and puts everything into place. The
transition from the good times to the bad is outlined with the heartfelt narration of Henry and a
great soundtrack . As Roger Ebert says in his review, He [Scorsese] doesn t simply compile a
soundtrack of golden oldies; he finds the precise sound to underline every moment, and in
GoodFellas, the popular music helps to explain the transition from the early days when Henry
sells stolen cigarettes to guys at a factory gate, through to the frenetic later days when he s selling
cocaine in disobedience of Paul Cicero s orders, and using so much of it himself that life has
become a paranoid labyrinth. I completely agree. The use of asynchronous sound is vital in a film
like this and Scorsese (along with the editor, Thelma Schoonmaker) delivers everything needed to
make this an amazing

Finding Nemo Psychology
Shamel Brown Psy 150 Concepts Paper April, 10, 2015 Finding Nemo The movie I chose to
analyze is Finding Nemo, which has many themes depending on how one interprets it. The theme I
got out of it was that love conquers fear . This relates to psychology aspects of emotions and
mentality. This movie also has many concepts, but the concepts I will be discussing are
authoritarian parenting due to posttraumatic stress disorder, Erickson s development stage of child
industry versus inferiority, stereotyping, anterograde amnesia, and permissive parenting styles. The
movie s opening scene is Marlin and Coral admiring their new home and neighborhood, as they
await the arrival of their babies, which Marlin wants to name Marling Jr. and Coral Jr. Then... Show

people with profound amnesiac syndromes. Those who are afflicted with anterograde amnesia
are able to keep their knowledge of how to do certain things (learned skills), this is seen when
Dory reads English and speaks whale. What is portrayed wrong is the flashback event when Dory
and Marlin come to the trench and she flashes back to the tuna fish saying to swim through it not
over it. Anterograde amnesia suffers do not remember recently occurred events. Also how was Dory

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time is a novel written by Mark Haddon. The novel
is written from the perspective of Christopher Boone, as he tries to discover who killed his
neighbours dog, Wellington. Christopher is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and due to
this, he has certain limitations that hold him back him throughout the novel. The novel is a story of
Christopher growing up , yet, as a person, Christopher is the same person he was, even after the
events of the novel.
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition which alters the ways in which the
brain grows and develops1. It is a lifelong condition, with symptoms first appearing in early
childhood. Symptoms of ASD can vary depending of the age of the person. Symptoms for pre
schoolers can included reject cuddles by parent or caregiver (although they may initial cuddles

Does the Ontological Argument successfully show that God exists?
God a being of which nothing greater can be conceived. (Blackburn, S, 1999. Think. New York
United States of America, Oxford University Press Inc. 5:154)
The ontological argument put forward by St Anselm, is based on this definition. The argument,
Anselm s premises, the concept of god being understood, god existing in the understanding and
god necessarily existing in reality, plus conclusion that god in fact exists, can be easily digested
and understood but are also very confusing. In this essay I will argue that the ontological argument
does not successfully prove that god exists as the argument not only contradicts itself but fails to
put forward any solid proof for god s existence. The essay topic above raises two main areas of
attention in need of address. These two areas being; the ontological argument and what it is, and
secondly, whether or not this argument is successful in arriving at the conclusion of god s
existence. To do the latter, I must first state the argument and what it is.
The Ontological Argument states, following the definition of God above, that the concept of God
or, a god, is understood (even by the fool as stated by Anselm) (Blackburn, 1999:154). Therefore as
the concept of God is understood God therefore exists in the understanding (taken as the

Themes Of Dark Romanticism
Many people think the natural world is a dark place. What makes human beings think this? Is it that
they were brought up as a child to think this way, or was it that as they got old they thought their
lives had become worthless, therefore, they continued to not care? Similar themes are shown in the
writings of Edgar Allen Poe, Washington Irving, and Nathaniel Hawthornein their individual works
The Pit and the Pendulum, The Devil and Tom Walker, and Dr. Heidegger s Experiment. Unlike the
Transcendentalists who saw the purity of an individual, Dark Romantics saw people as unrighteous
and damnable and their writings reflect that people suffer, they see nature as something mysterious,
and people have guilt from sinning. In Dark Romantic literary works the characters are often
suffering. For instance, in The Pit and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne, he explains how the
characters each have something they want to change in their lives because they feel guilty.
Widow Wycherly at one time was a woman who was loved in the town, but then people learned
more about her past. She lost her reputation and has guilt for it: As for the Widow Wycherly,
tradition tells us that she was once a great beauty. But shocking stories about her past had led the
people of the town to reject her. So, she lived very much alone. (Hawthorne 252). Similarly, the
characters, who wanted to be young again, drank the youth water. As they are guilty for their past
mistakes, and they look miserable, They seemed as though they had never known youth or
pleasure. They looked like they had always been the weak, unhappy creatures who were bent over
the doctor s table (Hawthorne 254). Overall, the characters of the story wish they were young again,
so they can change the sins they did when they were younger, and this demonstrates that Hawthorne
focuses on his characters sins and

Nation of Islam in the Light of Elijah Muhammad Essay
Nation of Islam in the Light of Elijah Muhammad
In 1961 James Baldwin met Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Nation of Islam movement at the
time. The time Baldwin spent within the Christian Church prior to his meeting with Elijah helped
him analyze what the Nation of Islam did for people. It allowed him to notice that everyone needed
a gimmick to keep them out of the ghetto, and it does not matter what the gimmick is (Baldwin
301). Baldwin realized that the Christian Church was his gimmick, so the Nation of Islam would
never do for him what the Christian Church had already done. Plus, some of the beliefs of the
Nation of Islam were a little far fetched. The Nation of Islam did not function as a very credible
religion during its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had three main ideas he preached that helped him with sales. He wanted black separatism,
everyone to know that white men were evil (which was not hard for African Americans to
believe since the idea already lived within their minds), and to show the inadequacy of
Christianity to African Americans. By preaching these ideas, he eventually had a following of
loyal supporters of his made up religion, who of course paid money to the church. When Fard
was arrested in 1933, he admitted that his teachings were strictly a racket and he was getting all
the money out of it he could (United States 1+). What he preached aided him in his peddling. He
did not take his teachings seriously yet he met a man one day that viewed him as God incarnate.
One night Elijah Poole attended one of Fard s sermons and spoke with him afterwards. He told him
that you re God himself (Marsh 39). At the time, the movement had eight thousand followers
(Marsh 39). At this point, Fard needed to find adamant believers who would serve as ministers for
his money making organization. At this time he recruited Elijah Poole, changed Elijah s name to
Elijah Muhammad and developed him into his Chief Minister. Soon after, Fard left Detroit and
Elijah took over the movement. Elijah was born in Sandersville, Georgia, in 1897 as the seventh of
twelve children. He barely finished the third grade before he dropped out

The Demon Haunted World By Carl Sagan
In a conversation with a friend, Austrian British philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein posed the
following questions:
Tell me, why do people always say that it was natural for men to assume that the sun went around
the earth rather than the earth was rotating? His friend said: Well, obviously, because it just looks
as if the sun is going around the earth. To which the Wittgenstein replied: Well, what would it look
like if it had looked as if the earth were rotating? .
This exchange exemplifies the way that scientific discovery can be shadowed by human intuition.
In his book The Demon Haunted World, Carl Sagan poses the most accurate way to describe the
natural world; anything that can be discovered by humans that is within our cognitive scope is and
should be subject to skeptical scientific examination guided by open minded thinking in order to
account for errors in human intuition, as well as clouded judgement due to emotional responses.
Humans have developed the capacity to have direct knowledge that is unaided by any conscious
observations or reason. Intuition, as we call this capacity, is a collection of past memories and
observations that can affect the way people react to or process certain stimuli on a subconscious
level. These automatic thought processes are greatly important in times of immediate response to
danger, implicit memory, and latent and unconscious understanding of the world around us. In
times of troubleshooting and desperation, human intuition is a

Personality In Jodi Picoult s Nineteen Minutes
A person s image is one of the most important social aspects from day one. It will decide a person
s friends, career, and level of success. Personality is a fluid aspect that ties a person s image
together. A person s personality or image will change with company. In Nineteen Minutes, Jodi
Picoult presents a motif of public vs. private self through many of her characters to show that
things are not always how they seem and to make the reader evaluate who they are as a person.
Humans need social interaction to flourish and they tend to select a few people to become
closest with. They share secrets, gossip about others, and support each other in times of need,
but how well can someone really know another person? In Nineteen Minutes the reader watches
Josie Cormier get ready for school, hiding her private personality away for the day. Either Josie
was someone she didn t want to be, or she was someone who nobody wanted (Picoult 8). To all of
Josie s classmates, friends, teachers, and even her own mother she seems like the perfect child.
Josie hangs out with the right crowd, gets great grades, and follows all of society s rules perfectly,
but no one really knows who she is. Behind the mask perfection Josie is just another teenager
struggling with depression and identity issues. The author chooses to make the most popular girl in
school also one of the most depressed to show that although things may seem beautiful on the
outside, they can be rotting from the inside. Picoult is proving how that easy it is for people to
hide their personalities to the world.
Additionally, Josie is in one of the most popular relationships at her high school. Everybody
praised her beautiful relationship with Matt but it s all just another façade. Throughout most
of part one the author builds sympathy for Matt and Josie because the boy who seems to be a
loving boyfriend was murdered, but later the truth becomes clear, The smile faded from Josie s
face. When I told you I slipped on the ice. Matt and I were having a fight and he hit me (Picoult
239). Even the most perfect people have secrets they are hiding. Matt seemed like he truly loved
Josie but it is clear that he is just an abusive boyfriend, hiding who he truly is whenever

The Times They Are A Changing
Flowers are Red The sage bard, Bob Dylan, on the rapidly rising waters of vicissitude: Come
gather round people wherever you roam And admit that the waters around you have grown And
accept it that soon you ll be drenched to the bone If your time to you is worth savin Then you
better start swimmin or you ll sink like a stone For the times they are a changin . Dylan was
hardly a grown man when he groaned the initial verse of his 1964 album s title track, The Times
they are A Changing (1964). A masterpiece which would continue to ring in the ears of every new
generation of upcoming adults for nearly half a century. Dylan depicts two conflicting mindsets in
his anthem of progress: Those who resist change, otherwise known as, the first who will later be
last; and those who rally for change, the slow that ll later be fast. Respectively, lionized author and

It s important to remember that the customer experience is a strategic issue, and not just an
accumulation of tactics. In fact, it s the most strategic issue an e business can work on. A dot com s
strategy should be directly based on the customer experience.
Improving the customer experience can lead directly to higher revenues. On an e commerce site,
building a great customer experience makes it quicker and easier for customers to buy, raising the
conversion rate. On high volume e commerce sites, raising the conversion rate by one tenth of 1%
can add as much as $10 million in incremental revenues per month. The customer experience is the
key to dot com survival. To survive, dot coms must improve their customer experience.

The Will To Believe Is A Philosophical Essay Written By
The Will to Believe is a philosophical essay written by William James. In the book, James
focused on the concepts of genuine choice and forced beliefs. His argument is that individuals
have choices to believe; however, those choices are shaped around facts and forced beliefs. He
also argues on religious hypotheses and the concept of beliefwithout reason.
The first problem James tackles is genuine options. He disagrees with Clifford on the idea of
genuine options. He believes that there are certain things which we cannot wait for efficient
evidence before we make a claim. Those things are the ones where religious faith is intellectually
acceptable. He states that genuine belief is living, forced and momentous. A living belief will be...

We are supposed to gain, even now, by our belief, and to lose by our non belief (James 136).
According to James, science says things are, morality says things are better than other things, and
religion says essentially two things. Firstly, she says things that the best things are the more eternal
things (...) the things in the universe that throw the last stone (James 136). The second one states
that we are better off if we believe her first affirmation to be true.
Furthermore, religion is momentous force because the answer to these religious force is all up
to you, there is no intellectual ground to answer the questions. Therefore, James is saying, if
you are a theist, there is nothing wrong in choosing to believe that there is a God, also, if you
are atheist, there is nothing wrong in choosing to believe there is no God. This is because it
takes as much faith to say there is no God as that there is a God. Therefore, according to James, we
can believe or not believe based on our irrational passions alone.
In addition, James lays out the problem of choosing to believe. He argues that people are inherent
believers by nature and that they do not choose to believe.
There are some flaws in James argument. Firstly, his claim that belief in God is live, forced and
momentous and cannot be decided on intellectual means. The question of whether God is live has
only to do with the individual. There are some theists that are so dogmatist that they would

and content of meals and physical activity, glucose monitoring, administration of numerous
medications including insulin, foot care, and a host of other self care requirements. And
diabetes can be a petulant, jealous companion; if you ignore your care, even for a little while, it
will make you pay with uncomfortable and potentially dangerous hyperglycemia or
hypoglycemia. And if you don t pay attention to the myriad details of care over a long period of
time, the penalty can be much more severe with loss of vision, kidney failure, foot ulcers,
amputations and heart disease. On the bright side, during the past two decades, clinical trials have
shown us that persons with diabetes can live long, productive, and complication free lives. Studies
in diabetes have demonstrated how to achieve near normal blood glucose levels. In addition, we
have developed effective interventions to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels in people
with diabetes. The consequence of such tight glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol control is
improved long term health. Blood sugar levels maintained in the near normal range over

Design And Fpga Implementation Of Ofdm Synchronization
Chapter 5 Design and FPGA Implementation of
OFDM Synchronization The channel estimation technique proposed in Chapter 4 is based on the
assumption that the coherent reception is perfect. That is, the system synchronization is perfectly
implemented. Synchronization is one of the most challenging and important tasks to any receiver
using coherent modulation, especially for OFDM systems which are highly sensitive to
synchronization errors. This chapter proposes a synchronizer based upon the delay and correlation
algorithm and the synchronization system is modeled within XSG.
Simulation results have been provided for presenting the system synchronization performance
clearly. The implementation results on FPGA are given at the end. 5.1 Synchronization for OFDM
5.1.1 Introduction to OFDM Synchronization
Generally speaking, synchronization is divided into timing and frequency synchronization. In
practice, the oscillator does not produce a carrier at exactly one frequency, and the carrier
frequency is modulated by random phase jitter [2]. The phase noise introduced results in a
mismatch of frequencies between the local oscillators at the transmitter and the receiver. In
addition, Doppler effects in fading channel also causes frequency offsets at the receiving carrier. As
a result, the numbers of subcarriers cycles within the FFT period are not integers anymore, and the
orthogonality property between subcarriers is not kept, causing ICI for an OFDM system. In
contrast, in a

Argumentative Essay On Animal Cruelty
Over the years that animals have been used for entertainment purposes, in most cases it was likely
to engage the audience to learn about a specific animal and help grow love and care for that
animal. Today, animals are seen doing show stopping tricks whether it be on TV, in circuses, or in
theme parks. However, are we unintentionally exploiting these animals to situations that they should
not have to deal with? Specifically, when in come to cases of wild animals that follow their primal
instinct to survive in their selective habitats. The audiencewitnessing these commercials, ads, and
shows may feel adoration for these animals but the facts are that for these wild animals confinement

following trainer demands in fear of the repercussion.
For instance, chimpanzees that are used in famous movies like the Planet of the Apes movies will
often start their career very early on in their life. As a consequence these animals are subject to
physical and mental abuse.
Performing chimpanzees are taken from their mothers at a very young age. This causes
tremendous emotional and psychological distress to the mother as well as to the infant. Trainers
frequently use fear and physical discipline to control their apes and the degree of force increases
as the apes grow. This continues until they re about 8 years old and too dangerous to work with.
However, even after they are retired, film chimpanzees have no guarantee that their way of living
will be restored. Some chimpanzees are lucky and placed in sanctuaries where they will be able
to enjoy the rest of their lives roaming a large enclosure while others do not share the same fate
and end up breeding for the next generation of film chimpanzees or in poorly

The Dangers Of Internet Monitoring And The Internet Privacy
In 2013, 71% of the US population over the age of three used the internet. Our everyday lives are
typically filled with technology and internet, but how much of it is being monitored by the
government, and how does it affect our privacy? Our entire lives are completely wrapped around
internet, all the way from posting what you ate on Instagram to paying your bills through
technological systems, such as PayPal. As the internetbecomes an almost necessary part of life,
privacybecomes even more likely to be violated and be misused by crooks or other immoral
business corporations. This topic obviously deals with legal issues and normalities, bringing up
how the issue of securityshould be addressed by the government with the least amount of privacy
invasion. There are many who say that there needs to be a lot more government monitoring and
tighter security, while others say that the government and other internet securities need to back
away completely and keep out. On the topic of there being even more government monitoring, we
need to look at how internet usage is monitored in the first place. The article by M. Kerner (8/24
/17)about the internet security vendor Versive, shows us exactly what we need to know. First, we
need a basic understanding about internet security monitoring, and why it s needed. Internet
Monitoring is needed due to the risk of potential threats of terrorism, online identity theft, and other
malicious and illegal deeds. Now, they way internet attacks

The Ugly Duckling Analysis
The tale of The Ugly Duckling has been told for many generations. It is the story of a little swan
that is mistakenly hatched in a duck s nest and because of his strange and different appearance he
is teased and ridiculed. Even his mother can t understand how this ugly duckling could be one of
her own. The ugly duckling goes through many hardships and a long, lonely winter. Then upon
seeing his reflection in the pond he realizes that he has become a beautiful swan and happily swims
off, joining a group of nearby swans.
At first glance, many may perceive this as a cut and dry fairy tale. Sending the message that without

If they are different from your society that you have been raised by, maybe it s time to change
your view on people because no one should be left out of anything for the wrong reasons. Being
different from everyone else is a quality that we should embrace in ourselves and in others.
There can be comparisons in other writings in stories like these. One comparison of this story is
the book Speak. The main character Melinda Sordino is being excluded from society because of
her actions the previous summer. She cannot find her place in society and she is forced to venture
through it on her own. Just like the duckling, she goes through many obstacles along the way of
acceptation in society. In the end of both stories the main characters find their place in society and
they are finally accepted for who they truly are. They embraced their inner beauty to get them
accepted by people who are just like them.
In the modes of literature there are four mode lines to follow off of. One of the mode lines are
romance, which is most commonly used beside comedy. In the beginning of the story there is a
mild conflict, and in this case the ugly duckling is driven away and excluded from society
because he looks differently and he acts different from everyone else. He tries to find his place
everywhere around the land but he can t find anywhere, where he is accepted. The final point on

dbq middle ages
The Middle Ages come into being around A.D. 500, which was after the western half of the
Roman Empire collapsed. They lasted to about A.D.1400 and are referenced to as a period of
time that experienced violence by Barbaric invasion, feudalism, disease, and strong feelings for
faith. The Dark Ages, the Age of Feudalism and the Age of Faith are all appropriate titles, however
the label that best fits is the Age of Faith because of the political, economic and social influence the
church held. The middle agesare often identified as the Dark Age because of the Black Death,
invasions by the Barbarians, and because of lack of enlightenment for the common people. A plague

Their daily lives were centered on the manor and that was how it stayed until towns began to
grow into cities after the crusades (OI). Feudalism had positive bearings because it was the
solution for decentralized government and lack of protection but also held people back due to lack
of social mobility.
The Age of Faith is most accurate for describing the Middle Ages because of the political, social
and economic influence the church held. Feudalism was still not providing one united central
government but instead many small ones and so the church gained a governmental authority
over Western Europe. People were all working to try to get into Heaven, and because of that
there was a lot of control over telling people what to do. The church could excommunicate people
and even Kings if they felt that they were refusing to comply (OI). This gave the church power
over the Kings because they controlled who would not be allowed to return to the church; if
someone were excommunicated they would not be able to reach Heaven. At the time the bible was
written in Latin, which only could be read to the common people by a clergy member who could
explain what was written. With the reliance on the church the pope s words and explanations were
taken as God s. The Truce of God stated different peace agreements, which they enforced by
exerting their power and influence (Doc. 5). The Crusades were a major part of this because the
church declared to try to capture the Holy land. Pope Urban

Block s Encounters With Death in The Seventh Seal
A 1957 film, written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, a Swedish writer, producer, and director, The
Seventh Seal concentrates on Antonius Block s journey following his return from the Crusade to
Sweden at a time when the country was plagued by the Black Death. In addition to displaying the
knight on his journey home, the film focuses on the continuous chessmatch he has against the
personification of Death, who has come to take him away. The use of multiple chess scenes
between Block and Death as a metaphor for Block s attempt to elongate his life to find the
meaning in life not only leads the knight to go on a quest in search of knowledge , but at the
same time, allows the important theme of light against dark to emerge, presenting the constant
struggle between hope and despair as a way to describe Block s struggle and triumph. The film
starts in a gloomy mood as wild waves and dark background music welcome knight Antonius
Block following his return from the Crusades after ten years to his homeland Sweden. To add
further darkness to an already hostile surrounding, Death, whose pale face is covered in black
robe, ominously emerges out of nowhere, unexpectedly surprising Block and creating even more
suspense. Once they encounter with one another, Death expresses his intent to take Block s life in
the immediate aftermath of his return: Who are you? I am Death. I have long walked at your side.

Content And Nature Of Value Creation
Christian Grönroos and Annika Ravald (2010) analyzed the scope, content and nature of value
co creation in a service logic based view of value creation, considering the customer perspective
in a supplier customer relationship. They published their findings in the Journal of Service
Management vol. 22 no. 1, 2011, pp 5 22. They emphasized to keep apart production and value
creation, as according to them they are different constructs. Production is the course of making the
resources consumers integrate in their consumption or usage procedures. Value creation is the
process of generating value in use out of such resources. They say that hence the value is not
produced; resources out of which value can be generated are produced. Due to the interactive
nature of service activities, where manufacturing and consumption are partly concurring processes,
customers involve themselves in the production process and become contributors in that process.
The character of customers as co producers of service activities was recognized already in the early
days of service marketingresearch (Eiglier and Langeard, 1976; Grönroos, 1978, 1982). As
Gummesson (1998, p. 247) declares, a service provider without consumers cannot produce anything
.
No matter customers buy goods or service activities, they consume them as a service (Grönroos,
1978, 2008; Gummesson, 1995; Vargo and Lusch, 2004, 2008.) If we see from a consumption
point of view, good and service activities both can be regarded as

Jay Gatsby Analysis
While Jay Gatsby was a man of mystery he was also one consumed with superficiality. We do not
know much about him until we delve deeper into his background and how it affected him his
whole life. Growing up in poverty inclined him to view a wealthy lifestyle with hungry eyes,
willing to do anything to achieve it, not thinking twice about the consequences. Wealth was one of
many goals Jay Gatsbyset in his lifetime, but it was not the most important one. Daisy Buchanan
was his last goal and his longest one at that. For Jay Gatsby, Daisy served as nothing more than a
trophy, a chase, and a means to an end for his American Dream.
Daisy Buchanan: the woman of every man s dreams, loved by many, but not for the reason any
woman should want to be loved. Daisy was loved for her status, serving as a desired trophy wife
not just by Gatsby but by many other men as the narrator, Nick, explains:
Her voice is full of money, he said suddenly. That was it. I d never understood before. It was full
of money that was the inexhaustible charm that rose and fell in it, the jingle of it, the cymbals
song of it...high in a white palace the king s daughter, the golden girl... (Fitzgerald 120). Right off
the bat, Gatsby knew her voice sounded like the thing he had wanted since he was young boy:
money. To Gatsby, Daisy was just another form of money. She was something for him to show off

Comparison Of Edward Weston s Life And Work
Edward Weston was born March 24th, 1886, he was from Highland Park Illinois. He is known
as a major photographer from the early to mid 20th century. His style of carefully composed and

Weston was a complex man. Often portrayed as a philanderer, a consummate Don Juan with a

Integration Of Proxy Model With Enkf Algorithms For Time...
Methodology
This section contains the mathematical background and stepwise procedure for EnKF algorithm,
KL expansion and ANN based proxy model. Integration of proxy model with EnKF algorithms for
time efficient assisted history matching is also explained in this section. Ensemble Kalman Filter
Algorithm
EnKF is a Monte Carlo data assimilation method, which has gained popularity over recent years
for assisted history matching due to its ability to include available observations sequentially in
time. Aanonsen et al. (2009) reviewed the application of EnKF in reservoir engineering for
estimation of reservoir parameters. EnKF procedure utilizes an ensemble of model states (e.g.
realizations of reservoir properties such as porosity and permeability) to estimate the covariance
matrices used in model updating process. Initial ensemble is generated based on the prior
knowledge of the reservoir derived from various sources as well logs, core and seismic analysis. In
general, simulation techniques such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) and Sequential
Indicator Simulation (SIS) are used to generate multiple realizations. These realizations are
consistent with the initial state of the reservoir. In the next step, all the reservoir models in
ensemble are forwarded typically using the numerical reservoir simulation. Mean and covariance of
predicted model states is calculated and used in turn to calculate Kalman gain. Next, in the update
(or analysis) step, each geological

Grill Steak
How to Grill the Perfect Steak There is nothing worse than showing up to a barbeque expecting a
nice juicy steak; only to receive some over cooked, dry, and hard as a rock piece of beef jerky the
cook wants to pass off as a steak. Knowing how to how to properly grill a steak is an essential skill
needed to be a good cook. Properly grilling a steak can separate the men from the boys and might
even impress a lady or two. There are five steps to grilling the perfect steak, choosing the best meat
for the job, letting the flavor of the beef be the hero, Temperature of the grill and steak, letting
the meat rest, and last but no least digging in! Time to choose the meat! The meat is the most
important part of this whole process. Knowing what cut of beef to gill can make or break a
barbeque. Most people believe that a filet or a tenderloin are the best cut for gilling; while it is
probably the most tender cut out there being best is debatable. Filets sacrifice flavor to be so
tender which is why they rely on the seasoning or sauce to give it a better flavor. Then there are

Wide Sargasso Sea Isolation Essay
In the novels Wide Sargasso Sea and Jane Eyre, by Jean Rhys and Charlotte Bronte, the theme of
isolation is used to contrast both Antoinette and Jane. In both novels, Jane and Antoinette all have
to experience isolation which helps them by the end of the novels. In this essay, I will compare and
contrast how Charlotte Bronte and Jean Rhys explain the theme of isolation through the lives of
both Jane and Antoinette. The novels, Jane Eyreand Wide Sargasso Sea, portray Jane and
Antoinette as being two isolated personalities who, despite their different lives both endure
isolation. In Jane Eyre, Jane is an orphan who is left in the care of her aunt who treats her harshly
and isolates her from the rest of the people in the house. When Jane has a chance to attend Lowood,
her isolation is aggravate, and she transforms into a very restrained woman with low self confidence
with no hope. Similarly, in Wide Sargasso Sea, Antoinette s isolation starts at home as well and
continues when she attends the convent which influences her personality. In the novel, Antoinette
spends most of her time in her room because she feels as though people view her as being insane;
however, in reality Antoinette acts very normal.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jean Rhys makes it clear that no one paid attention to Antoinette or her family. Thus, Antoinette s
isolation at an early age negatively shapes her identity and her relationship with others, particularly

a world that she created in order to escape isolation until Rochester makes an appearance in her life.
Later on, the novel discloses that Rochester, whom Antoinette loves, starts to distance himself from
her until she can no longer take

According to Jennifer Dorn, when the novel was first published in 1897, critics regarded it as a

a secret applauder to the feminist movement by creating female characters who exhibit such
independence. There are many interpretation of Stokers inspiration for the characters in Dracula,
and of the Count himself. According to a biography written by Barbara Belford, Stoker based his
dark vampire character on his actor friend and employer, Henry Irving. Stokers slavish devotion
to the actor can be compared to the relationship between Renfield and the Count (Miller). In the

standards of that time. This issue brought forth the fears of societal sexual independence in the
Victorian era. Another speculation for the inspiration of the Count Dracula in Stokers novel is of

Rhetorical Analysis Of Is Google Making USupid
For almost two decades, Google has surely been the top dog of search engines on the worldwide
internet. Beginning as a research project by two college students, Sergey Brin and Larry Page,
called Backrub, Google has now become the answer to all questions. Google s mission is to
organize the world s information and make it accessible and useful. According to Niholas Carr s
article Is GoogleMaking Us Stupid he states that our use of the internethas serious effects on the
way we real, think, and live. Carr s struggle along with his friends who he s said are experiencing
these same struggles, seem to be putting the blame on the internet for their lack of attentiveness,
when there can be other underlying issues other than excessive use of the web affecting your brain.
In Carr s article he explains that he is a writer and the internet has become very useful to him over
the years. However, he s noticed that his attention span has shortened to where it s difficult for him
to focus on a lengthy piece of writing. Carr describes his troubles by stating that he finds himself
unconsciously skimming through the text instead of thoroughly reading word for word. Carr
quotes Maryanne Wolf, a developmental psychologist at Tufts University who says We are how we
read. Wolf worries that the style... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Italian humanist Hieronimo Squarciafico worried that the easy availability of books would
lead to intellectual laziness, making men less studious and weakening their minds. Others argued
that cheaply printed books and broadsheets would undermine religious authority, demean the work
of scholars and scribes, and spread sedition and debauchery. The change in technology seems to
have had a lasting effect on human beings. Carr goes back as far as the 19th century to back his
argument of the internet affecting the brain. He strategically states all the negatives aspects but

How Is Australia A Racist Society
Racism is a belief that one race is superior to the other or the practice of treating a person or
group of people differently on the basis of their race. Racism has been an integrated part of ancient
world and is still vastly present in modern society. The ideas of racism are embedded into society,
without fault it is part of our national character. Country s deny their racism; however, views of
racism are ingrained into every society.
Racism is still largely prevalent in society. There is a constant conflict that occurs between the
Western and Arab communities within our society. How often have were heard the quote Not all
Muslims are terrorists, but nearly all terrorists are Muslims. it has been expressed in chants, and
been told on mainstream, western media. CNN on January 10th, 2010 released a report showing
that since 1980 only 7% of terror attacks have been committed by islamist extremists. Racism is
still largely prevalent is our modern society, major organisations such as the United Nations have
pledged remove racism and eliminate racial discrimination. The fight against racism has been
taught in our schools, and we have been breed to accept and tolerate; however, racism will always
been in our culture.
Australia is known for being a culturally diverse society that accepts people of all race and religion
and preaches equality for all; however, this is far from the truth. Australia is indeed a racist society.
Australian politicians and its people refuse to

Three Mile Island Accident Study
Three Mile Island Accident Study
1.Introduction
Based on the NRC (1), the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant is a commercial nuclear plant
where has two nuclear reactors (TMI 1 and TMI 2). General Public Utilities Corporation built the
power plant and Metropolitan Edison Company ran and managed the plant. TMI 1 and TMI 2
reactors were pressurized water reactors; and their generated power were 802 MWe and 906
MWe respectively. TMI 2 had an accident on March 28, 1979, particularly, the reactor was melted
and radioactivity was released to the outside of plant. Fortunately, there was no detectable effects on

The mechanical failure got the pilot operated relief valve stuck, meanwhile the relief valve status
showed in the control room was closed. Consequently, the coolant flowed out of reactor core
through valve; and the temperature of reactor core was rising.
Because the information provided by the system was inadequate, so that operators did not know
the water level. As a result, they assumed that the water level was high in the reactor core and did
not realize that the reactor was experiencing losing cooling water. The coolant pumps was switched
off to protect themselves from the acute vibration. Furthermore, operators cut down the supply of
emergency cooling to the reactor core. These series of action did not relieve the hazard, but made
reactor into the dangerous situation. As a result of these actions, the reactor core suffered with
overheating. Moreover, there was a crack on the zirconium cladding that was a cover for the
nuclear fuel pellets. It led to that the nuclear fuel pellets starting to melt and flow out from the
crack. Fortunately, the building where place the TMI 2 did not have any break, so it prevented
workers and surrounding from strong and direct radioactivity.
3 hours later than the feed water pumps stopping working, the operators just realized that the
reactor core had melted because of abnormal core temperature. Even though some operators did not
believe the temperature reported by the control system. After 15 hours 50 minutes from the fault

Role of Intelligence in India’s Security
RN KAO MEMORIAL LECTURE BY SHRI NARESH CHANDRA
India s Security Challenges in the next decade Role of Intelligence
I feel greatly honoured and privileged to have been asked to deliver the R. N. Kao Memorial
Lecture this year. I believe, it is the sixth in the series started in 2007 by Shri Tharakan, the then
Secretary, R amp;AW . It feels good to be following the five distinguished speakers who have
delivered the lecture in previous years.
Before this distinguished gathering, it is hardly necessary to enumerate the achievements of Shri
Ramji Kao, one of the most celebrated civil servants of our time and the architect of our secret
service. He was given charge of organizing the R amp;AW in September, 1968. Shri Kao had been

Proper intelligence input is essential to taking informed decisions on issues of national security.
Intelligence agencies are important arms of the State for meeting external challenges and for the
proper management of internal security.
In brief, our national security objectives are: (i) preservation of territorial and maritime integrity of
the country; (ii) having friendly relations with all countries; (iii) providing for sustained economic
and social development accessible to all; (iv) creating credible capacities to meet conventional and
non conventional threats and challenges emerging from space and cyber space; and (v) nurturing
the values of secularism and democracy. These objectives set the agenda for our policies and
programmes and bring out the challenges that we face in the future for the successful prosecution
of these objectives.
To consider the security environment in which we have to fashion our policies, we find that the
global strategic context is changing rapidly, driven by the speed of technology development,
realignment of forces with the recent decline in the markets of the West along with emerging
economic strength and rise of China and India. Many see in this a strategic shift from the West to
the East, but one has to be realistic and not assume that this shift is going to indefinitely endure.
Even today, the

Analyzing The Bandwagon Effect In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Have you ever felt the need to complete a task because the people around you already completed
that task? That feeling is caused by a phenomenon known as the bandwagon effect. Concepts such
as the bandwagon effect are explored in Ayn Rand s Anthem. In the novella, there is a collectivist
society that believes more in the importance of the groupinstead of the individual. Personal
preferences are suppressed, and people who question the collectivist ideals are persecuted by
society. The people cannot decide what they want to become because the Council picks what
occupation they receive based on the needs of the State as a whole. This also affects individual
people such as Equality 7 2521. The collectivist ideals that are displayed in Ayn Rands... Show more

The people in the general public in Anthem have a similar mentality and tend to do similar
actions. This is likely caused by the bandwagon effect which is when people start to do what
other people are doing without considering why they do it. The bandwagon effect can be bad as
it is harmful when it comes to ideals and ethics (McMahon). It has caused many adverse effects
on the public. For example, there is very little rebellion against the collectivist society besides a
few individuals. This happens as a result of the bandwagon effect. Most people decide to agree
with the collectivist ideals because the other people around them agree with them. As more
people decide to accept the ideals, there will be fewer people who will decide to stand up for their
rights. The collectivist ideals makes the people in the general public give up their rights due to the
bandwagon

this store after graduation from college. Howe 2 Ski Stores is a chain of three ski and
snowboarding shops located in the suburbs of a large eastern city. (Nkomo et al., 2011, p. 202)
She started this store because she wanted to own a store that was full of state of the art equipment
and clothing for skiers. Her whole purpose was to have employees be students with expertise in
the sport. After opening this store, business grew and she ended up opening a couple more stores,
with one focusing on snowboarding. However, after opening these two more stores, her staff took a

Her employees took a turn for the worse by not performing to standards. To help Maria, one
solution would be to profit share, which can be a decent framework to remunerate and inspire
high level workers. Plus, if your workers owned your business themselves, they would have an
altogether different viewpoint in regards to the business than they presumably do as hourly or
salaried workers. As skiers and snowboarders, we possess the tools to enter a community or
mountain environment that can instantly feel like home, even if it is very far away and has its
own distinct character. (Santella et al., 2013, p .35) That is how Maria wanted her stores to feel like:

China, for one adopted this policy in order to curb population growth. We all know that China has
the highest population in the world, encompassing 1.2 billion or twenty one percent of the world s
population. They know too well that if this would continue to grow, they will be having serious
social and economic problems. As a solution, in the year 1979, Chinese authorities create a one
child per family policy and because male children are often regarded as more economically
valuable, female infanticides increase. Infanticides are often regarded to as an inhumane act
especially to us Christians however in primitive people; this thing is not new to them. Many Asian
and European countries engaged in this act to prevent the population growth in their nations.
Because of the ONE CHILD POLICY, China was able to control its population. They are
considered to have the highest population rate not just in Asia but in the whole world and so this
policy is more or less favorable to them. This policy was said to have been the reason why they
were saved from famine and other economic disability. However, in smaller countries like Japan,
this policy was effective during the first years of implementation but later on become a hindrance in
the progress of their country. Japan, just like China adopted this policy to prevent the growth of
their population. Now, however they feel sorry that they had implemented this policy because now,
they have the what you

Theme Of Bye Bye Blackbird
Anita Desai, the grand dame of Indian English literature, was born in Mussorie on 24 June 1937,
of a Bengali father and a German mother. This identity of her plays a significant role in the
portrayal of characters in most of her novels especially Bye, Bye Blackbird as it presents the
cultural crises suffered by her main characters due to the East West encounters. This novelis
considered to be most intimately connected to her own experience as she herself has mentioned in
an interview thus, ...of all my novels Bye, Bye Blackbird is the most rooted and experienced and
the least literary in derivation (Dhawan 92).

he seems to be a seemingly contented individual. His attraction towards England is justified by his

As he is compelled to leave India for better life style and consistent economy, he has derived a

  • 2. Goodfellas Film Analysis Based on a true story, Goodfellas is arguably one of the best gangster movies made. The 1990 s film is about a man named Henry who grows up in the mob. It tells the ups and downs of not only his story, but what it takes to be in a mob. Many mob styled movies focus on one thing only, the murder. While Goodfellasis based around murder, there is much more to it. You are shown what it does to people, how it corrupts families and changes people s outlook on life. You are shown the betrayal of people you call family . This is what makes Goodfellas one of the greatest mob movies ever made. Films need something to keep the viewers interested or they will not be successful. Goodfellas has that special something that keeps you hooked the whole... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There could be a great screenplay and a great director, but if the right people are not casted, the whole movie can flop. Ellen Lewis, the casting director for Goodfellas, did an amazing job. When you have a lineup consisting of Ray Liotta , Joe Pesci (Tommy) and the great, Robert De Niro (Jimmy), you have something special. The chemistry between the three is something you do not just find anywhere. The bond between their characters is very believable and the transition into their dark times comes naturally. When things get tough for the three, relationships are tested and things go downhill at a rapid velocity. Being in a mob, you have to be careful who you mess with and when one of these men whacks the wrong guy, things go from bad to worse. The directing of the story makes it easy to understand and puts everything into place. The transition from the good times to the bad is outlined with the heartfelt narration of Henry and a great soundtrack . As Roger Ebert says in his review, He [Scorsese] doesn t simply compile a soundtrack of golden oldies; he finds the precise sound to underline every moment, and in GoodFellas, the popular music helps to explain the transition from the early days when Henry sells stolen cigarettes to guys at a factory gate, through to the frenetic later days when he s selling cocaine in disobedience of Paul Cicero s orders, and using so much of it himself that life has become a paranoid labyrinth. I completely agree. The use of asynchronous sound is vital in a film like this and Scorsese (along with the editor, Thelma Schoonmaker) delivers everything needed to make this an amazing ... The theme I got out of it was that love conquers fear . This relates to psychology aspects of emotions and mentality. This movie also has many concepts, but the concepts I will be discussing are authoritarian parenting due to posttraumatic stress disorder, Erickson s development stage of child industry versus inferiority, stereotyping, anterograde amnesia, and permissive parenting styles. What is portrayed wrong is the flashback event when Dory and Marlin come to the trench and she flashes back to the tuna fish saying to swim through it not over it. The novel is written from the perspective of Christopher Boone, as he tries to discover who killed his neighbours dog, Wellington. Christopher is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and due to this, he has certain limitations that hold him back him throughout the novel. The novel is a story of Christopher growing up , yet, as a person, Christopher is the same person he was, even after the events of the novel. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition which alters the ways in which the brain grows and develops1. It is a lifelong condition, with symptoms first appearing in early childhood. Symptoms of ASD can vary depending of the age of the person. Symptoms for pre schoolers can included reject cuddles by parent or caregiver (although they may initial cuddles themselves), avoiding eye contact or preferring a routine and becoming irritated when the routine is not followed. Student Name Samukumba Seyuba Student Number SYBSAM001 Course code PHI1024F Course Lecturer Dean Chapman Tutor Kajal Carr Does the Ontological Argument successfully show that God exists? God a being of which nothing greater can be conceived. (Blackburn, S, 1999. Think. New York United States of America, Oxford University Press Inc. 5:154) The ontological argument put forward by St Anselm, is based on this definition. The argument, Anselm s premises, the concept of god being understood, god existing in the understanding and god necessarily existing in reality, plus conclusion that god in fact exists, can be easily digested and understood but are also very confusing. In this essay I will argue that the ontological argument does not successfully prove that god exists as the argument not only contradicts itself but fails to put forward any solid proof for god s existence. The essay topic above raises two main areas of attention in need of address. These two areas being; the ontological argument and what it is, and secondly, whether or not this argument is successful in arriving at the conclusion of god s existence. To do the latter, I must first state the argument and what it is. The Ontological Argument states, following the definition of God above, that the concept of God or, a god, is understood (even by the fool as stated by Anselm) (Blackburn, 1999:154). Therefore as the concept of God is understood God therefore exists in the understanding (taken as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Themes Of Dark Romanticism Many people think the natural world is a dark place. What makes human beings think this? Is it that they were brought up as a child to think this way, or was it that as they got old they thought their lives had become worthless, therefore, they continued to not care? Similar themes are shown in the writings of Edgar Allen Poe, Washington Irving, and Nathaniel Hawthornein their individual works The Pit and the Pendulum, The Devil and Tom Walker, and Dr. Heidegger s Experiment. Unlike the Transcendentalists who saw the purity of an individual, Dark Romantics saw people as unrighteous and damnable and their writings reflect that people suffer, they see nature as something mysterious, and people have guilt from sinning. In Dark Romantic literary works the characters are often suffering. For instance, in The Pit and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, in Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne, he explains how the characters each have something they want to change in their lives because they feel guilty. Widow Wycherly at one time was a woman who was loved in the town, but then people learned more about her past. She lost her reputation and has guilt for it: As for the Widow Wycherly, tradition tells us that she was once a great beauty. But shocking stories about her past had led the people of the town to reject her. So, she lived very much alone. (Hawthorne 252). Similarly, the characters, who wanted to be young again, drank the youth water. As they are guilty for their past mistakes, and they look miserable, They seemed as though they had never known youth or pleasure. They looked like they had always been the weak, unhappy creatures who were bent over the doctor s table (Hawthorne 254). Overall, the characters of the story wish they were young again, so they can change the sins they did when they were younger, and this demonstrates that Hawthorne focuses on his characters sins and ... Nation of Islam in the Light of Elijah Muhammad Essay Nation of Islam in the Light of Elijah Muhammad In 1961 James Baldwin met Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Nation of Islam movement at the time. The time Baldwin spent within the Christian Church prior to his meeting with Elijah helped him analyze what the Nation of Islam did for people. It allowed him to notice that everyone needed a gimmick to keep them out of the ghetto, and it does not matter what the gimmick is (Baldwin 301). Baldwin realized that the Christian Church was his gimmick, so the Nation of Islam would never do for him what the Christian Church had already done. He had three main ideas he preached that helped him with sales. He wanted black separatism, everyone to know that white men were evil (which was not hard for African Americans to believe since the idea already lived within their minds), and to show the inadequacy of Christianity to African Americans. By preaching these ideas, he eventually had a following of loyal supporters of his made up religion, who of course paid money to the church. When Fard was arrested in 1933, he admitted that his teachings were strictly a racket and he was getting all the money out of it he could (United States 1+). What he preached aided him in his peddling. He did not take his teachings seriously yet he met a man one day that viewed him as God incarnate. One night Elijah Poole attended one of Fard s sermons and spoke with him afterwards. He told him that you re God himself (Marsh 39). At the time, the movement had eight thousand followers (Marsh 39). At this point, Fard needed to find adamant believers who would serve as ministers for his money making organization. At this time he recruited Elijah Poole, changed Elijah s name to Elijah Muhammad and developed him into his Chief Minister. Soon after, Fard left Detroit and Elijah took over the movement. • 8. The Demon Haunted World By Carl Sagan In a conversation with a friend, Austrian British philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein posed the following questions: Tell me, why do people always say that it was natural for men to assume that the sun went around the earth rather than the earth was rotating? His friend said: Well, obviously, because it just looks as if the sun is going around the earth. To which the Wittgenstein replied: Well, what would it look like if it had looked as if the earth were rotating? . This exchange exemplifies the way that scientific discovery can be shadowed by human intuition. In his book The Demon Haunted World, Carl Sagan poses the most accurate way to describe the natural world; anything that can be discovered by humans that is within our cognitive scope is and should be subject to skeptical scientific examination guided by open minded thinking in order to account for errors in human intuition, as well as clouded judgement due to emotional responses. Humans have developed the capacity to have direct knowledge that is unaided by any conscious observations or reason. Intuition, as we call this capacity, is a collection of past memories and observations that can affect the way people react to or process certain stimuli on a subconscious level. These automatic thought processes are greatly important in times of immediate response to danger, implicit memory, and latent and unconscious understanding of the world around us. In times of troubleshooting and desperation, human intuition is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Personality In Jodi Picoult s Nineteen Minutes A person s image is one of the most important social aspects from day one. It will decide a person s friends, career, and level of success. Personality is a fluid aspect that ties a person s image together. A person s personality or image will change with company. In Nineteen Minutes, Jodi Picoult presents a motif of public vs. private self through many of her characters to show that things are not always how they seem and to make the reader evaluate who they are as a person. Humans need social interaction to flourish and they tend to select a few people to become closest with. They share secrets, gossip about others, and support each other in times of need, but how well can someone really know another person? In Nineteen Minutes the reader watches Josie Cormier get ready for school, hiding her private personality away for the day. Either Josie was someone she didn t want to be, or she was someone who nobody wanted (Picoult 8). To all of Josie s classmates, friends, teachers, and even her own mother she seems like the perfect child. Josie hangs out with the right crowd, gets great grades, and follows all of society s rules perfectly, but no one really knows who she is. Behind the mask perfection Josie is just another teenager struggling with depression and identity issues. The author chooses to make the most popular girl in school also one of the most depressed to show that although things may seem beautiful on the outside, they can be rotting from the inside. Picoult is proving how that easy it is for people to hide their personalities to the world. Additionally, Josie is in one of the most popular relationships at her high school. Everybody praised her beautiful relationship with Matt but it s all just another faГ§ade. Throughout most of part one the author builds sympathy for Matt and Josie because the boy who seems to be a loving boyfriend was murdered, but later the truth becomes clear, The smile faded from Josie s face. When I told you I slipped on the ice. Matt and I were having a fight and he hit me (Picoult 239). Even the most perfect people have secrets they are hiding. Dylan was hardly a grown man when he groaned the initial verse of his 1964 album s title track, The Times they are A Changing (1964). A masterpiece which would continue to ring in the ears of every new generation of upcoming adults for nearly half a century. • 14. The Will To Believe Is A Philosophical Essay Written By The Will to Believe is a philosophical essay written by William James. In the book, James focused on the concepts of genuine choice and forced beliefs. His argument is that individuals have choices to believe; however, those choices are shaped around facts and forced beliefs. He also argues on religious hypotheses and the concept of beliefwithout reason. The first problem James tackles is genuine options. He disagrees with Clifford on the idea of genuine options. He believes that there are certain things which we cannot wait for efficient evidence before we make a claim. Those things are the ones where religious faith is intellectually acceptable. He states that genuine belief is living, forced and momentous. A living belief will be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are supposed to gain, even now, by our belief, and to lose by our non belief (James 136). According to James, science says things are, morality says things are better than other things, and religion says essentially two things. Firstly, she says things that the best things are the more eternal things (...) the things in the universe that throw the last stone (James 136). The second one states that we are better off if we believe her first affirmation to be true. Furthermore, religion is momentous force because the answer to these religious force is all up to you, there is no intellectual ground to answer the questions. Therefore, James is saying, if you are a theist, there is nothing wrong in choosing to believe that there is a God, also, if you are atheist, there is nothing wrong in choosing to believe there is no God. This is because it takes as much faith to say there is no God as that there is a God. Therefore, according to James, we can believe or not believe based on our irrational passions alone. In addition, James lays out the problem of choosing to believe. He argues that people are inherent believers by nature and that they do not choose to believe. There are some flaws in James argument. Firstly, his claim that belief in God is live, forced and momentous and cannot be decided on intellectual means. The question of whether God is live has only to do with the individual. The answer is yes: the same lifestyle changes that might have prevented your diabetes can help you to treat it. As important as lifestyle is in causing diabetes, it may be even more important in treating type diabetes, as well as diabetes. Diabetes is unique chronic disease, affected by virtually every aspect of lifestyle, including eating, physical activity, and school, work, and travel schedule. Conversely, all of these activities are affected by diabetes. While many diseases require attention to taking prescribed medications, diabetes demands constant attention and vigilance with regard no timing and content of meals and physical activity, glucose monitoring, administration of numerous medications including insulin, foot care, and a host of other self care requirements. And diabetes can be a petulant, jealous companion; if you ignore your care, even for a little while, it will make you pay with uncomfortable and potentially dangerous hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. And if you don t pay attention to the myriad details of care over a long period of time, the penalty can be much more severe with loss of vision, kidney failure, foot ulcers, amputations and heart disease. On the bright side, during the past two decades, clinical trials have shown us that persons with diabetes can live long, productive, and complication free lives. Studies in diabetes have demonstrated how to achieve near normal blood glucose levels. In addition, we have developed effective interventions to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels in people with diabetes. The consequence of such tight glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol control is improved long term health. Blood sugar levels maintained in the near normal range over ... Design And Fpga Implementation Of Ofdm Synchronization Chapter 5 Design and FPGA Implementation of OFDM Synchronization The channel estimation technique proposed in Chapter 4 is based on the assumption that the coherent reception is perfect. That is, the system synchronization is perfectly implemented. Synchronization is one of the most challenging and important tasks to any receiver using coherent modulation, especially for OFDM systems which are highly sensitive to synchronization errors. This chapter proposes a synchronizer based upon the delay and correlation algorithm and the synchronization system is modeled within XSG. Simulation results have been provided for presenting the system synchronization performance clearly. The implementation results on FPGA are given at the end. 5.1 Synchronization for OFDM 5.1.1 Introduction to OFDM Synchronization Generally speaking, synchronization is divided into timing and frequency synchronization. In practice, the oscillator does not produce a carrier at exactly one frequency, and the carrier frequency is modulated by random phase jitter [2]. The phase noise introduced results in a mismatch of frequencies between the local oscillators at the transmitter and the receiver. In addition, Doppler effects in fading channel also causes frequency offsets at the receiving carrier. As a result, the numbers of subcarriers cycles within the FFT period are not integers anymore, and the orthogonality property between subcarriers is not kept, causing ICI for an OFDM system. Feudalism had positive bearings because it was the solution for decentralized government and lack of protection but also held people back due to lack of social mobility. The Age of Faith is most accurate for describing the Middle Ages because of the political, social and economic influence the church held. Feudalism was still not providing one united central government but instead many small ones and so the church gained a governmental authority over Western Europe. People were all working to try to get into Heaven, and because of that there was a lot of control over telling people what to do. The church could excommunicate people and even Kings if they felt that they were refusing to comply (OI). This gave the church power over the Kings because they controlled who would not be allowed to return to the church; if someone were excommunicated they would not be able to reach Heaven. At the time the bible was written in Latin, which only could be read to the common people by a clergy member who could explain what was written. With the reliance on the church the pope s words and explanations were taken as God s. Block s Encounters With Death in The Seventh Seal A 1957 film, written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, a Swedish writer, producer, and director, The Seventh Seal concentrates on Antonius Block s journey following his return from the Crusade to Sweden at a time when the country was plagued by the Black Death. In addition to displaying the knight on his journey home, the film focuses on the continuous chessmatch he has against the personification of Death, who has come to take him away. The use of multiple chess scenes between Block and Death as a metaphor for Block s attempt to elongate his life to find the meaning in life not only leads the knight to go on a quest in search of knowledge , but at the same time, allows the important theme of light against dark to emerge, presenting the constant struggle between hope and despair as a way to describe Block s struggle and triumph. The film starts in a gloomy mood as wild waves and dark background music welcome knight Antonius Block following his return from the Crusades after ten years to his homeland Sweden. To add further darkness to an already hostile surrounding, Death, whose pale face is covered in black robe, ominously emerges out of nowhere, unexpectedly surprising Block and creating even more suspense. • 28. Content And Nature Of Value Creation Christian GrГ¶nroos and Annika Ravald (2010) analyzed the scope, content and nature of value co creation in a service logic based view of value creation, considering the customer perspective in a supplier customer relationship. They published their findings in the Journal of Service Management vol. 22 no. 1, 2011, pp 5 22. They emphasized to keep apart production and value creation, as according to them they are different constructs. Production is the course of making the resources consumers integrate in their consumption or usage procedures. Value creation is the process of generating value in use out of such resources. They say that hence the value is not produced; resources out of which value can be generated are produced. Due to the interactive nature of service activities, where manufacturing and consumption are partly concurring processes, customers involve themselves in the production process and become contributors in that process. The character of customers as co producers of service activities was recognized already in the early days of service marketingresearch (Eiglier and Langeard, 1976; GrГ¶nroos, 1978, 1982). As Gummesson (1998, p. 247) declares, a service provider without consumers cannot produce anything . No matter customers buy goods or service activities, they consume them as a service (GrГ¶nroos, 1978, 2008; Gummesson, 1995; Vargo and Lusch, 2004, 2008.) Methodology This section contains the mathematical background and stepwise procedure for EnKF algorithm, KL expansion and ANN based proxy model. Integration of proxy model with EnKF algorithms for time efficient assisted history matching is also explained in this section. Ensemble Kalman Filter Algorithm EnKF is a Monte Carlo data assimilation method, which has gained popularity over recent years for assisted history matching due to its ability to include available observations sequentially in time. Aanonsen et al. (2009) reviewed the application of EnKF in reservoir engineering for estimation of reservoir parameters. EnKF procedure utilizes an ensemble of model states (e.g. realizations of reservoir properties such as porosity and permeability) to estimate the covariance matrices used in model updating process. Initial ensemble is generated based on the prior knowledge of the reservoir derived from various sources as well logs, core and seismic analysis. In general, simulation techniques such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) and Sequential Indicator Simulation (SIS) are used to generate multiple realizations. These realizations are consistent with the initial state of the reservoir. In the next step, all the reservoir models in ensemble are forwarded typically using the numerical reservoir simulation. Mean and covariance of predicted model states is calculated and used in turn to calculate Kalman gain. Next, in the update (or analysis) step, each geological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literary Review of Bram Stoker s Dracula Essay Review of Bram Stoker s Dracula Prior to the creation of the literary classic Dracula , Bram Stoker spent his time managing the Lyceum Theatre and legendary actor Henry Irving. According to Jennifer Dorn, when the novel was first published in 1897, critics regarded it as a pulp fiction potboiler (Dorn). The novels declaration as a literary masterpiece came many years later. A graduate of Trinity college, Stoker came from a middle class Irish family, the son of a civil servant. This could leave the reader wondering if Stoker was really a sexist or a secret applauder to the feminist movement by creating female characters who exhibit such independence. There are many interpretation of Stokers inspiration for the characters in Dracula, and of the Count himself. According to a biography written by Barbara Belford, Stoker based his dark vampire character on his actor friend and employer, Henry Irving. Stokers slavish devotion to the actor can be compared to the relationship between Renfield and the Count (Miller). In the novel, Renfield is driven mad with powerful loyalty to the Count. Belford insinuates in The Biography of the Author of Dracula, that the relationship between Irving and Stoker was of the same dominate nature. Belford goes forward to declare that the Stoker slyly includes in his novel repressed homoerotic and sexual tendencies, possibly his own, that were forbidden by society standards of that time. This issue brought forth the fears of societal sexual independence in the Victorian era. Another speculation for the inspiration of the Count Dracula in Stokers novel is of the Prince of Wallachia, Vlad III. He ruled over what is now known as Romania during the years ...
