Piaget Essay
Piaget s Theory of Cognitive Development
Jean Piaget was born on August9, 1896, in the French speaking part of Switzerland. At an early age he
developed an interest in biology, and by the time he had graduated from high school he had already
published a number of papers. After marrying in 1923, he had three children, whom he studied from
infancy. Piaget is best known for organizing cognitive development into a series of stages the levels of
development corresponding too infancy, childhood, and adolescence. These four stages are labeled the
Sensorimotor stage, which occurs from birth to age two, (children experience through their senses),
the Preoporational stage, which occurs from ages two to six, (motor ... Show more content on

I remember as a child thinking that the sun and moon followed me as I took a walk. In addition, the
child s use of language is not as sophisticated as it might seem. Children have a tendency to confuse
words with the objects they represent. If a child calls a toy block a car and I use it to make a
house , the child may become upset. To children, the name of an object is as much a part of the object
as it s size, shape, and color. To the Preoperational child, insulting words may really hurt. (Coon 107).
Consider my preschooler calling each other baby . To the adult it is an innocent word, but to the
preschooler it is the worst thing they can think of.
Piaget s description of the Preoperational stage also focused on all the other things the preschool aged
child still cannot do. According to Piaget, egocentrism is a cognitive state in which the child sees the
world only from his own perspective, without awareness that there are other perspectives. (Bee and
Boyd 155). The child is not being selfish; rather, she simply assumes that everyone sees the world as
she does. I see many examples of ego egocentrism on a daily basis in the preschool environment and
at home. For example, my daughter, Meryl, who is almost five years old, gets a phone call from her
aunt. She begins asking Meryl questions.
Instead of saying yes or no , Meryl simply nods her head.

2. Giotto
Virgin and Child Enthroned
The Giotto and Cimabue are obviously different versions of the Virgin and Child Enthroned. But
because they are different versions they have their differences. When i first look at the Cimabue piece
the first thing i focus my eyes on is the sweet, tender, loving face the Virgin has on her warm yellow
face. Her eyes are looking outward towards the audience which i feel helps you feel like you are part
of the enthroning. Giotto depicted the Virgins face with a little bit more of a stern look to it. Its not as
soft as the one in Giotto. Also the colors are much more cooler so when i look at Giotto s piece i look

2. Pontormo
Entombment
The Weyden and Pontormo paintings both are trying to depict a similar story in different styles. In
Weyden s piece the first thing you notice different from the Pontormo is the colors. In Weyden s piece
the colors pop right out you since he used harsh bright colors for their clothing. Unlike Pontormo
where he used very soft angelic colors like the pink and light blue and peachy colors. My eyes are
attracted to the Weyden more than Pontormo even if its older because it looks so much more realistic
than Pontormo. The drapery in Weyden s piece is very realistic as it falls on the bodies of each human
standing or falling. The shadows of the drape make them look real as if you can pick them up directly
from the painting. In Pontormo the drapery is more of a flowing feel to it. You can tell where it sits but
it isn t as realistic and looks as if they were angels helping God up.
In the Weyden piece the emotions are very upfront. They seem very upset at the sight of God sacrifice.
There is a women who looks as she has fainted and two people caught her ash she fell. Her arm is
almost in the same angle as God s arm is as they bring him down. This might have been purposely
done to somehow symbolize that they

The Supplemental Enrichment Program Is A Comprehensive...
A. The supplemental enrichment program is a comprehensive reading and language arts program that
develops reading mastery by building a solid reading foundation and using different research based
strategies and activities to meet the individual needs of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
As a result, the supplemental enrichment program will prioritize the following core language and
literacy aspects: Reading: Foundational Skills
The supplemental program will incorporate research based lessons featuring daily repetition of word
analysis and decoding practice. It will also target word reading skills and practice of words with
phonetic irregularities and sight words in order to primarily boost reading accuracy with the ultimate
goal of increasing overall reading fluency and comprehension.
Reading: Narrative The supplemental program will engage students with autism spectrum disorder
(ASD) in a similar but modified model of guided reading instruction in a small group setting. This will
promote a wide range of skills including a better understanding of the setting, plot, and theme,
comprehension of literal and figurative language, as well as structure and craft of narrative passages.
These skills will always be supported through teacher led explicit direct instruction, guided practice,
and independent practice in every part or aspect of the program.
Reading: Informational or Expository Text Students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) will also

African Americans And The Civil Rights Movement
Mitchell Thomas
Ms. Conley
English 12

Research paper Many Americans try to pretend that just because slavery has come to an end and the
Civil Rights movement occurred that racism has just suddenly vanished, but that s not the case. A
person is not born racist, it is taught while growing up in a racist environment. It is a learned behavior
of hate towards someone not you. Racism is very evident in men s professional sports today but also
had an even greater effect in the past. There was a point in time where African American males were
not allowed to participate in professional sports and they were shunned and labeled as outcasts who
did not have the decency to step on the same field, court, or ring. Now that they are allowed to
participate in professional sports African Americans have to deal with a great deal of racism in today s
society which brings about many controversies such as riots, banning of athletes, team fines, and the
sale of teams. In today s society sports has great influence, effect and power which can serve as a
bridge for the gap between racism and discrimination. Racism will never fully go away, but as a
society work can be done to lessen the problem and come to a point where it is so minuscule it wouldn
t even be a thought. People can t change the world unless they change themselves. It starts with the
people first. Racism comes from the thought and teachings that people are less than human. It is a
thought that plagues minds

Compare And Contrast William Bradford And Faith During...
Reading Response 2: William Bradford and faith during first encounter.
In today s time faith seems to be the essence that solves problems and causes wars. In the beginning of
time faith did the same. During William Bradford s period of discovering the new world Bradford
used his faith to power through every obstacle with a clear mind knowing whatever happened was
Gods will.
Bradford expressed his nonconformist religious sensibilities in his early teens and joined the famed
Separatist church in Scrooby at the age of seventeen. In 1609 he immigrated with the congregation,
led by John Robinson, to the Netherlands. In the Netherlands Bradford feared being hunted down for
his religious beliefs and decided to board the mayflower and set forth on ... Show more content on

Bradford had much help from the nearby Indians with things such as food and, as travel guides for
safe passage through rival Indian territory. Bradford encountered deadly warrior Indians who wanted
to kill Bradford and the Indians who were helping him. this was called the first encounter. Bradford s
battle was intense, he speaks of flying arrows and firing muskets, repeated charges and counter
charges, swinging cutlasses and hatchets. The Pilgrims superior weaponry eventually enabled them to
disperse the attackers, but Bradford gave the victory to a different source: During this battle Bradford
said the quote Thus it pleased God to vanquish their enemies and give them deliverance; and by His
special providence so to dispose that not any one of them was either hurt or hit, though their arrows
came close by them and on every side of them; and sundry of their coats, which hung up in the
barricade, were shot through and through. Afterwards they gave God solemn thanks and praise for
their deliverance, and gathered up a bundle of their arrows and sent them into England afterward by
the master of the ship, and called that

Antibiotic Resistant And Infectious Diseases
Introduction
Antibiotics are medications that kill bacteria which could also make us sick and eventual patient died
from the virus if not treated quicker. Antibiotics help prevent bacteria from cell duplication. People are
dying worldwide just from virus outbreak while they also seeking for a treatment of the diagnosis
from bronchitis and other infectious diseases. Doctors around the globe have discovered that some of
the organisms waging warfare against humans resistant to antibiotics these patients are often taking.

This review presents the salient aspects of antibiotic resistance development over the past half century,
with the oft restated conclusion that it is time to act. To achieve complete restitution of therapeutic
applications of antibiotics, there is a need for more information on the role of environmental
microbiomes in the rise of antibiotic resistance. In particular, creative approaches to the discovery of
novel antibiotics and their expedited and controlled introduction to therapy are obligatory. If
something is not done sooner than later to prevent antibiotic resistance, we will produce the major
organism that we will not be unable to kill by some normal manners. The medicine we are taking for
infection disease is making the sickness worse not to be better.
History of antibiotic resistance
Antibiotics have become the mainstay of our defense against bacterial infections. They revolutionized
medical care in the 20th century and become miracle drug of the modern medicine. In 1928, British
bacteriologist Alexander Fleming serendipitously discovered penicillin in molds that had
contaminated a dish used to grow bacteria in his lab. The dish was

Pros And Cons Of The Keystone Pipeline
What is the Keystone Pipeline? On January 24, 2017 TransCanada submitted a third application for a
Presidential Permit to construct, operate, and maintain the Keystone pipeline system to import crude
across the international border of Canada into the US. Originally, TransCanada submitted an
application in 2008 and another in 2012 during President Obama s administration. The first two
applications received much scrutiny from the State Department, they conducted a combined total of
five Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), multiple public comment periods, and analyzed multiple
alternative routes. Figure 1 shows the entire route of the Keystone pipeline system from Hardisty,
Alberta, Canada through Oklahoma and down to Port Arthur, Texas. ... Show more content on

Many of the opponents argue the pipeline only creates temporary jobs for two years during
construction, and continually report the lower end estimated economic benefits. In contrast, the
proponents typically exaggerate the economic benefits proclaim the lasting stimulus the project will
provide. The truth usually lies somewhere in between. Undoubtedly, the construction phase of the
project will provide the most immediate benefit to the US economy than the operation and
maintenance phases of the project. During the construction phase, it is estimated that $3.4 billion
dollars would be added to the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP). Of that, roughly $2.05 billion
would be earmarked for employee earnings related to the construction phase. However, after the
construction phase, approximately only 50 permanent employees and 15 temporary contractors would
remain to operate the pipeline. (Department of State, 2017) Evidently, this project will not provide a
long term windfall of economic stimulus. Nevertheless, $2.05 billion dollars in employee earnings in
the next two years during slower economic times is nothing to write

The World Wide Web
The World Wide Web, propelled by various social media programs like Twitter, FaceBook and
Instagram, has become a double edged sword in the era of Web 2.0. This double edged sword can be
symbolized by SENDERS of information, and RECEIVERS of information.
In its early days, the primary use of the WWW was searching for information, on static pages , to
fulfill a particular need or request. Maps, phone numbers, product information, and the like, were
available to anyone who searched for it. The WWW was a functional, up to date encyclopedia of
information, available with the stroke of a keyboard, at the sender s request.
During this time, search devices like Navigator, Google, Yahoo and their many imitators, worked by
allowing one person (the sender) to find information about a multitude (the receivers). Hence the
origin of the company s name synonymous with the Internet, Google. Send a request; Google will find
an answer. It will even tell you how long it took to answer the question!
In a real sense, the days of the early WWW could be characterized as follows: Go on the Internet, and
find what you are looking for. In split second time.
Today, in the era of Web 2.0, the many forms of social media programs have caused a distinct reversal
in the most basic operation of the WWW. The roles of sender and receiver have been reversed.
The sender is now the collector of information, gathered from data, from cookies, for sale to anyone

Madama Butterfly Essay
Un Bel Di, one of the most well known arias from Madama Butterfly, was composed by Giacomo
Puccini in 1903. In Italian, Un Bel Di translates to, one fine day , and is sung by the protagonist, Cio
Cio San, at the beginning of the second act. During this act, Cio Cio san depicts her powerful
emotions of love towards her American husband named Benjamin Pinkerton, who is soldier that
leaves Cio Cio san to marry another woman in America without her own knowledge of his affair with
an American woman. Furthemore, Puccini composed this opera in a libretto, which is a type of
operatic style that tells an original story from a book through opera. Furthemore, this opera was
composed in the key of G♭major. This aria also consists the dynamics between crescendos and

Moreover, throughout this aria, measures six, seventeen through nineteen, forty seven through fifty,

the major dynamics that can be seen throughout Un Bel Di because this dynamic expresses the

My Passion For Learning
I desire to see the world from many different perspectives and I am committed to being a lifelong
learner. Nowadays, learning is often seen only as a stepping stone for a better career. However, for a
person whose learning objective is wisdom, I learn to know, to understand, and to engage with the
world around me. The product of wisdom, accordingly, is self beautification. As beauty is the splendor
of truth, I am confident that acts of truth will make the world a better place.

I spend five months studying at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco. After spending some
time in the old city of Fes, I began noticing that there were a lot of beggars on the street, seeking help
from passersby. I was disturbed to find out that four million of Morocco s 33 million people live under
poverty. Upon returning to the United States, I began reflecting on the role of think tanks and policy
institutes in empowering governments and civil societies. As part of my involvement in the Think
Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP), I led the Middle East and North Africa team to figure out
how think tanks in the region could constructively design their activities to better serve policy makers
and the public. In our study, my team and I found that the perceived integrity of these institutions was
often compromised because of their funding structures. Think tanks and civil societies funded by
governments were often accused as government puppets while those funded by Western donors were
viewed as wolves in sheep clothing. My experience at TTCSP opened my eyes to the intriguing nature
of policy formulation, governance shifts and

The People Over Weight And Obese
In today society the majority of people are over weight. The USA is considered to have the most
people over weight and obese. So what is wrong with our system of eating ? Why are other countries
considered to be healthier then the US. Part of the reason is the way we where brought up. And
another reason is the the foods we are given at easy access. But that isn t to say the stores don t play a
role in the way that you shop. So what could be a solution to living a healthier life style. Being healthy
is a lot more then being lean, its about being smart enough to not letting the stores trick you into
buying what they want you to buy, and rather what you need to buy. When you walk into the store to
buy milk, bread, meat, and produce. You ll notice that all those things tend to be at the back of the
store. They are forcing you to walk through the middle ails where all the unnecessary things they want
you to buy are located. So by the time you ve reached the back of the store you have 5 10 items that
you didn t intend to buy. Another example is placement on the shelves. The majority of people are
right handed so they will make more right turns and as they turn to the right with the cart they place
things at eye level to the right so it will catch your eye. Another tactic is since many countries in the
world read left to right they place the higher marked items on the left in hope you ll buy the more
expensive product before getting to the cheaper alternative on the right.

EO is frequently used to treat viral infections such as influenza and the common cold. EO is also
regarded to have antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria, therefore it is also used to treat
wounds to prevent infection.
Penicillin G.
Penicillin G. is also known as Benzylpenicillin. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
Usually Penicillin G is obtained from microbial sources such as Escherichia coli (Cole, 1969). It
works on most Gram positive bacteria, and some Gram negative bacteria.
Gentamicin
Gentamicin is also an antibiotic, like Penicillin, and is used to treat a number of bacterial infections.
Unlike Penicillin, Gentamicin is more effective on Gram negative bacteria, and only works on a
limited number of Gram positive bacteria. It was first used in 1963 as the first clinically useful broad
spectrum antibiotic. (Edson RS, Terrel CL, 1999).
Trigene
Trigene is a disinfectant and was used in the experiment as a positive control.
Sterile water
Sterile water was used in the experiment as a negative control.
Escherichia Coli
Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a pathogenic, Gram negative bacteria, and was used in the experiment to
determine the antimicrobial activity of TTO and EO.

Cosmic Trinity
Good Morning all, welcome to this Beyond Belief presentation of Trinity artwork. I am Eloise Daly
and my watercolour painting is titled A Cosmic Trinity . I chose this art form to express my concept of
the Trinity because it flows easily, like how each reflection of God can relate to the essence of God.
This artwork is representational; it was chosen because the trinity can be clearly represented. In this
piece, the Earth is the centre of the artwork to signify how God watches over us. The Father as the
creator of life, the Son as the flesh of God, and the Holy Spirit as the love and spirit of God. The
Trinity is enclosed by an illuminated triangle in a boundless expanse of space to represent the faceless
Godhead.

Controlling Images of Black Womanhood
In Patricia Hill Collins Mammies, Matriarchs, and Other Controlling Images, she illustrates four main
stereotypes that Black women face. The first controlling image applied to African American women is
The Mammy. The mammy is the faithful, obedient servant to the white family and the stereotype
attempts to hide the fact that black women who work for white families are being exploited. By loving
and caring for her white children more than her own, the mammy symbolizes the dominant group s
perceptions of the ideal black female relationship to elite white male power. The smiling mammy
signals her agreement with the situation, seemingly accepting her subordination (Collins, 71). Next is
the image of the Black matriarch (Collins, 73). According to the stereotype, they spend too much time
away from home, are overly aggressive and unfeminine, and allegedly emasculate their lovers and
husbands. This stereotype attempts to control conduct by punishing black women for assertiveness
and hides the oppression by making it seem that black women are naturally this way (Collins, 74 75).
The third controlling image of Black womanhood is that of the welfare mother, which is linked to
Black women s increasing dependence on the welfare state (Collins, 76). This time, the punishment is
for failing to work. Rather than being a bad mother for deserting the children, now the concern is
being with the children too much and not working. Again, by pinpointing the Welfare Mother as the
cause,

Cyberbullying And Tinker V. Des Moines Independent...
Cyberbullying and Tinker Cyberbullying is prevalent in today s society due to the abundance of
teenage students having access to the internet either on campus or off of campus. Bullying over the
internet is thought of being done by students against students. Although this is true, there are many
instances where students use the internet to voice their opinions about teachers and administrators in
which the language is vulgar, lewd, and demeaning. As of 2015, all states in the United States, except
for Montana, have enacted policies that deal with bullying by using an electronic device. However, in
many of the previous court cases, the rulings have been linked to a Case Law that was made in 1969.
Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District is frequently recognized as being the
first case to protect students First Amendment rights at school. By ruling that it was within Iowa high
school students First Amendment rights to protest Vietnam by wearing armbands at school, the Court
established that students do not shed their Constitutional rights at the school gate, with the exception
of behavior that could cause substantial disturbance to the school environment (Eaton, 2014). The
Supreme Court has not yet made a ruling on a case dealing with cyberbullying and the internet;
therefore, it must rely on Case Law from before the internet era to make decisions involving students

Accuracy of results
There is always some degree of inaccuracy in any experiment. I think that there were several factors in
my experiment that made the results slightly inaccurate. These were;
#61623; The time taken to place the bung on the flask – This let out a small amount of carbon dioxide
into the atmosphere instead of the gas syringe.
#61623; Weighing and measuring inaccuracy s – The weighing of the marble chips will always be
slightly inaccurate due to the scales inaccuracy. This is the same with the measuring of acid.
#61623; The size of the marble chips – The size of the marble chips was not always the same, some
were larger or smaller than others. This would have made for a slight inaccuracy.
Reliability
No significant problems or difficulties were encountered when carrying out this experiment. The
accuracy and reliability of the results and conclusions are very good. Even though I have outlined the
inaccuracy s of the experiment, these are only t be expected and do not have much impact on the
overall conclusion.
Improvements
The procedure used was simple and straightforward and not many difficulties were encountered. One
difficulty was that the gas syringe was subject to humidity which made the syringe move not as
smoothly as it would have otherwise. A small improvement could be

How Significant Was the Presence of Foreign Powers as an...
How significant was the presence of foreign powers as an influence on the nature and growth of Arab
nationalism in the years 1900 2001?
During the years 1900 2001 a number of significant interventions occurred which affected the growth
and nature of Arab nationalism. Several key pressures considerably influenced a change in the nature
of nationalism; including, economic levers, agreements and military presenses in the Middle East.
Arab nationalism arose out of the fear of the possibility and later the certainty of European or
American dominance. The emerging ideology believed all Arabs to be united by both a shared
language and history. Foreign intervention in the Middle East long predated the First World War,
dating back to during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was also true of the Arab fighters in the 1916 Arab revolt aided by the British; they wanted gold
and weapons much more than Arab independence. Cleveland highlights these points and the fact that
the promises made in the correspondence prompted contentment on both sides, as the British wanted
to see the fall of the Ottomans and Hussein wanted leadership. However, McMahon s language was so
ambiguous and so vague..[that it has] given rise to conflicting interpretations over whether Palestine
was included as part of the future independent Arab state . It is for this reason that the Arabs began to
distrust Britain. The correspondence was between the British high commissioner, Sir Henry McMahon
and descendant of the prophet and Arab leader, Sharif Hussein. For the British it was a useful
agreement as they already saw the Ottomans as a threat. However in the long term it caused unrest in
the Middle East and widespread distrust of Britain. The agreement is useful in showing the unclear
language used by the British to avoid either having to give land to the Arabs or create an argument.
Deborah J. Gerner agrees with Cleveland in that secret agreements , caused Britain especially to be
viewed negatively by the Arabs; It is clear from this agreement [Sykes Picot] that Britain had no
intention of fulfilling its commitment to support Arab independence in the Levant at the end of the
war, whatever might have

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Quantitative Easing
Introduction
The main issue, which has been seen in the emerging economies, is that the growing inflation and the
hurdle of the debt crises. Similar situation has also been faced by the European Economies. This is not
the first time that these economies are facing this hurdle, because in the previous year also there were
some loans taken by the European Central Bank in order to help these economies. However, the
payment of these loans was a hurdle for the central bank. This issue has now become more critical due
to the emerging technical issue in the European economies (Handl Paterson, 2013).
All these have made the ECB to look into the matter of applying the QE. This paper would be

Furthermore, with the help of the expansionary policy the proper amount required by the nations

2014).
Conclusion
This research provides with the idea that the situation of the European Economies is very critical and
also they are at the risk of risk of debt crisis. Therefore, the ECB has no other choice than
implementing the QE on the economies. The QE is subjected to be having both potential advantages
and disadvantages to the economies on which it has been implemented. The advantages are more
emphasised in this case because at the very moment the European economies are in a great deal need
of the implementation of the QE.
After this, the Nash Equilibrium is introduced. This has been done in order to understand the current
situation of the economies and the appropriate policy that should be applied to these economies. The
results identified that the ministry of finance and central bank are having the chance a combination or

Summary Of The Synthesis Of Eugenol From Cloves
The main objective of the lab work done was the extraction of eugenol from cloves, after which a
calculation of the the percentage recovery of it is researched, and to the running of an IR in order to
analyze the purity of the lab sample. Eugenol is the byproduct of the oil extract from cloves. This
produced oil consists of mostly eugenol and acetyleugenol. In medical purposes, the oil could be used
as a dental anesthetic. It is also one of the best over the counter cure for a toothache. (Kluger, 2016)
Dentists use it as an antiseptic and anti inflammatory weapon agains dental pain for patients, as well

Using Pen And Paper Becoming A Classroom Of Diverse...
As each semester passes, I am growing in how to assess my students, and use it to build on future
more effective lesson plans that corporate a classroom of diverse students that benefits all learners. I
learned in my methods and severe courses that my lesson plans need to focus on one or two items
only. This can be achieved by concentrating, and being specific in the scope and goal of what you
want the students to achieve. I am now comfortable in knowing there are multiple ways of confirming
understanding of the lesson taught without using pen and paper or a worksheet all the time. Objects,
games, conversation, drawings, one on one, self guided or independent assigned tasks, interactions,
acting, listening, teamwork or working with a buddy are only a few ways to determine knowledge,
knowledge gained, and capability. I learned that the pen and paper becomes necessary with an exit
ticket, when a document is needed to confirm the success of the learners. I learned what an exit ticket
was and how to utilize them in severe and methods. An exit ticket is a good way to document the
learner s success while during the lesson, the students can enjoy the hands on activities that enable
them to be a successful learner without worksheets or test or even realizing they are learning. Students
were able to sculpt out an action verb using play dough. They created animals jumping, swimming or
running. They created them playing basket ball or skydiving, this was done in the verbs lesson

Use this Phase s activities and resources to assist you in answering. 1. How does the vegetation
surface type affect the amount of runoff? Speculate why this happens. The vegetation surface type
affects runoff since it is in contact with the soil. Once the soil absorbs all the water it can hold, the rest
undergoes runoff. Through force of gravity, it moves downslope to other areas, carrying soil particles
and sediments along. However, more vegetation cover results in less runoff while less cover results in
more soil erosion. 2. How does the smooth mountain rock surface type affect the amount of runoff?
Speculate why this happens. A smooth mountain rock surface enhances runoff because it is freeway
passage without any chance of retaining any sediments. Other rough rock surfaces alternatively hinder
runoff by retaining materials thus less runoff. 3. How does the bare soil surface type affect the amount
of runoff? Speculate why this

Memorializing is often the way to remember a very important, intelligent, or rich person who lives

Most importantly, a training model must provide a detailed program for officers to follow, which the
CIT model is one such strategy. One of the key aspects of the crisis intervention model is the fostering
a relationship between law enforcement and mental health professionals (Tucker, Van Hasselt, Russell,
2008). Hinging on the fact that law enforcement administrators and officers must be willing to
perform the groundwork to meet the needs of the mental health community and vice versa.
Jail diversion initiatives hinge on the availability of mental health services and practitioners. The

Race In Sociology
Race is a concept that was socially constructed to structure a hierarchical order that poses some races
as superior to others. This concept is unable to explain human genome variation and evolution, thus
nullifying the flawed concept with scientific evidence. Human variation occurs because of evolution, a
biological process that all organisms involuntary undergo so that they can adapt to their environment
to maximize their chances of survival. In contrast, race explains human variation as physical
differences that determine power of one group over another. To truly understand why race is such an
uneducated and outdated idea, one must study the semantics of the term, why it was socially
constructed, the genetic evidence that proves that we are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People believe that populations that evolved together constitutes a race. They think that Blacks are one
race that stayed in Africa, Asians are another race that migrated to Asia, and Whites are another race
because they moved to Europe. But these groups only represent the extreme physical differences in
humans. And these groups only represent a small percentage of the world s people, which is not
useful. As human history progressed and humans moved out of Africa, they were always
differentiating along the way. Race cannot explain the incredible diversity of mankind; it is not
possible to organize this huge diversity of 7 billion people into so few categories. Shared traits are not
random. For example, the dark skin of Somalian and Ghanaian people indicates that they evolved
under heavy sun rays. But that s all it shows; they are not more closely related (using genetic
evidence) than any other group in the world. Sharon Begley argues that labeling Somalians and
Ghanaians as Blacks does not show anything about their evolutionary history and even falsely
assumes that they are more closely related than someone of another race (Begley 67). Humans are all
Homo sapiens, the species to which all modern human beings belong. Humans slowly evolve based on
their environment, not because a race gene determines their race. Other examples include Similarly,

When thinking of a foil in the literature language, it creates a whole different mindset. A foil is when
two characters personalities are completely opposite from one another to accentuate each other.
William Shakespeare, writer of the love story Romeo and Juliet uses foils greatly among the
Montagues and Capulets. The Montagues and Capulets are the two families who have a rivalry with

Geoffrey Chaucer Research Paper
This is a story about an author with an unfinished story that survived the passage of time. I will be
discussing the life, the works, and the impact of Geoffrey Chaucer. Geoffrey Chaucer was born in
1340, London, England. He is the son of John and Agnes de Copton Chaucer. Chaucer s family were
wine merchants. Chaucer s first job was as a page for Elizabeth, the countess of Ulster. Elizabeth was
the wife of Prince Lionel, the third son of Edward III.
Chaucer was in King Edward s army during early parts of the Hundred Years War in 1359.

Chaucer is generally considered the father of English poetry, and The Canterbury Tales has been
required reading for countless students over the generations. The influence of his work on generations
of English language writers is undisputed. Some critics have worried that such wide and shallow
exposure of the reading public to Chaucer s work has diluted full appreciation for his complex
contribution to literature. Critic Derek Traversi says, The appreciation of Geoffrey Chaucer has
suffered a good deal in the past from his reputation as the Father of English poetry. It has been easy to
think of him as a naif, the possessor of a charming simplicity of outlook which tends to convey itself,
for a modern reader, through language considered picturesque or simply childish, alternately quaint or
redolent of innocence for readers who think of themselves as more sophisticated and more
psychologically complex. However, this view is not correct, Traversi argues: His early poems show
him engaged in exploring the possibilities of the English language as an instrument for sophisticated
literary creation. As poet William Blake put it, over four hundred years after the book s first
publication: Of Chaucer s characters, as described in his Canterbury Tales, some of the names are
altered by Time, but the Characters themselves for ever remain unaltered and consequently they are

Endangered Species
Many species vital to ensuring that today s environment will thrive are becoming extinct. If a species
is slowly dwindling, and in imminent danger of becoming nonexistent, this species is considered to be
endangered. One in four mammals, one in eight birds, one third of all amphibians and 70% of the
world s assessed plants on the... IUCN Red List are in jeopardy (IUCN, 2016). According to the
International Union for Conservation of Nature, or IUCN, upwards of 16,000 species are threatened
with extinction, including both plants and animals (IUCN, 2016). Before becoming endangered, a
species will show warning signs, either by starting to lose biological diversity or by losing the habitats
for that species to flourish in, or in the worst case, both. The word endangered can sometimes be
confused with threatened, extirpated, or extinct. Extirpated refers to the state of a species where its
population has died out in a certain area or range, but other populations of said species still exist
elsewhere (Olden, Julian D., 2008). When a species is considered threatened, or vulnerable, this refers
to the state of the species being susceptible to endangerment and extinction ( Extinction crisis

signs to that of a species in danger of becoming threatened, including lack of genetic diversity, or
overhunting may be evident. ( Extinction crisis escalates ). When a species is labelled

Voltaire s Views Toward English French Religion, Government, and Scientific Advancements
After 1688, England became a constitutional monarchy under the rule of Mary and William. English
society evolved from embracing the absolute monarchy to one that introduces new thought processes
and beliefs. In Voltaire s Letters on England, he contributes the development of England to its
respectable regards toward religion, governmental systems, and scientific advancements. He contrasts
these practices with those of the less respectable Frenchmen, and reveals the different outcomes of the
two nations. Following the Reformation, there was a great division within the Church between the
Catholics and Protestants. This tension was eased during the reign of Queen Elizabeth with the
passing of the Act of Supremacy in 1559, which created the Church of England and consequently the
Anglican Church. Eventually Anglicanism became known as the New Catholicism . While the pope
was no longer recognized, bishops, and many aspects of medieval heritage was retained under the

Voltaire s letters, he acknowledges that even though everyone is allowed to practice their own religion,
the true religion that in which a man makes his fortune is the Church of England. It was very difficult

my mother s married name is Burrell. Which is like a Italian name which is misleading to some
people, she called the school and she told them Hello my name is Mrs.Burrell, I have a daughter I
need to enroll her in school. We just moved on the block . And they said Oh that s wonderful, we have

Kierkegaard Sacrifice
Although remembered by many as foremost a philosopher, Søren Kierkegaard was quite the
theologian in his time, with his own unique approach to theology and Christianity in general. In a time
that was ruled by objective methodology in every aspect of acquiring and summarizing knowledge,
Kierkegaard sought to bring Christianity back into the realm of the subjective, thereby making it much
more interactive and personal. What this paper focuses on is Kierkegaard s requirement of sacrifice
that all Christians must be willing to make in order to be considered true Christians, followed by both
a critique and a praise for his contagious notion.
What is Meant by Sacrifice in Christianity?
At the time of Søren Kierkegaard, many relatively new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even more drastic, some tied in their religious beliefs and faith with their work ethic and/or national
identity, which thought process Kierkegaard gives an example of: How can you doubt that you are a
Christian? Are you not a Dane...do you not perform you duties at the office like a conscientious civil
servant; are you not a good servant of a Christian nation...so of course you must be a Christian.
Kierkegaard loathed how cold and detached the Christian faith had become, so he saw it fit that he
remind people what being a Christian truly meant. In his famous work Fear and Trembling,
Kierkegaard declares that no person has a right to delude others into the belief that faith is something
of no great significance, or that it is an easy matter, whereas it is the greatest and most difficult of all
things. The difficulty of faith lies in the requirement of sacrifice. The story of Abraham s near sacrifice
of his beloved son, Isaac, is what Kierkegaard utilizes to demonstrate how costly faith in God is. Here
is a man, who after seventy years of waiting for God s promise of offspring finally received his son, is
commanded by God to slay his promised son with no stated reason for doing so. Kierkegaard, in
attempting to experience what Abraham might have experienced in those moments, cries, Now all is
lost, God demands Isaac, I shall sacrifice him, and with him all my joy but for all that, God is love and
will remain so for me. What bold words! The cost

Why Nhs ( National Health Service ) Organisations Need...
NHS has undergone many changes since its inception in 1948 and it has become a cliché to say that
only thing which is constant in the NHS is change. There are many drivers of these changes the
external and internal, the patient led, the policy led and also the changes driven by politics (Buchanan
et al, 2013) and finances (DOH, 2010). This essay will critically analyse models of change and how
they are relevant to my organisation (NHS). This essay will also critically evaluate human dimensions
of change and how they impact on success and implementation of organisational change.
Why NHS (National Health Service) Organisations Need Change?
Usually a need to change a service is identified, based on feed back from staff or patients, though there
are numerous examples in the NHS when the managers or ministers (Darzi, 2008, Francis 2013) were
forced to take decisions because of critical incidents or massive failure noted by an external review of
an NHS Trust (Francis, 2013, Berwick, 2013). Lord Darzi s (2008) NHS Next Stage Review described
a model of clinician led change leadership in the NHS (The King Fund, 2011), by doing so Lord Darzi
aspired to provide frontline staff with greater freedom to make positive changes to deliver best quality
of care.
In a multilayered and complex organisation like NHS usually big changes are driven by national level
policies or enquiries (Simon, 1979). For example Francis (2013) indicated that there were massive
failures of leadership and

A Comparison of Two Versions of The Big Sleep
A Comparison of Two Versions of The Big Sleep
The Production Code attempted to censor sex and violence in film of the 1930 s and 40 s. Instead of
impairing, it encouraged directors to use artistic ideas and integrity to surpass the viewers expectations
actively involving them in the film despite Hollywood s censorship. Howard Hawks is one such
director who used the restrictions of the Production Code to his advantage. His screen adaptation of
the Raymond Chandler novel The Big Sleep portrays the same amount of sexuality and violence
apparent in the written word, using a distinctly subtle style, which develops broader themes.
Comparisons with the extremely dull 70 s remake by Michael Winner further suggest the superiority

Both of these endings work well in their respective mediums. There is no written law that says a
producer or director has to strictly reinforce all the themes of the novel that are being adapted to the
screen. If this were true that would make for an entirely dull piece of work, which brings me to the
Michael Winner version.
Lacking the stars of Bogart and Bacall, the film inserts sexuality by glorifying Carmen Sternwood s
nude body at every opportunity. She appears quite a few times, as Chandler would say; in her birthday
suit alongside a gratuitous shot of the Schoolgirls porno magazine that Geiger distributes. The
problem does not lay in the vulgarity of this blatant flamboyance of flesh; however, it adheres to the
common false mystique that exhibitionism equals sex appeal.
Another fault in Michael Winners remake is its strict adherence to the plot of the novel. The
relationship between Vivian and Marlowe in the movie is non existent. It seems as though Robert
Mitchum, playing Marlowe, has more fun flirting with Agnes, played by Joan Collins, in Geiger s
bookstore than with the snotty, senior Sternwood sister. Leaving Eddie Mars gambling casino,
Marlowe kisses Vivian in an attempt to find out, what Eddie Mars has on her. However, Vivian is not
pleased with Marlowe s prodding and shrieks, so that s the way it is you rotten bastard. As illustrated
in the book, this scene depicts

Essay about Rapid Changes During the Jazz Age
Conflict covered the world in the early 1900s during WWI. After four long years of fighting treaties
were signed. Following Armistice Day a new era began. New ideas and trends swept over the world
after WWI in the era called the Jazz Age. During the Jazz Age, Paris became the center of the artistic
movement. Artists of all sorts from every corner of the globe traveled to Paris. Ernest Hemingway was
there during this time, and his life in 1920s Paris is documented in his memoir A Moveable Feast.
Along with Hemingway, F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and Cole Porter
were all prominent figures in the artistic movement in the Jazz Age (Weber). Gertrude Stein hosted
gatherings of numerous now acclaimed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything changed in the United States during this era. Even though the United States only took part
in WWI for one year, the society changed drastically during this time. The seemingly perfect world
that people once lived in no longer existed. The youth rebelled against the social constrictions ,and
women started to do things unimaginable beforehand. Jazz was on the rise with musicians such as
Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong taking the lead. The Temperance Movement attributed the
carefree lifestyle of society to alcohol eventually bringing about the Prohibition. The Prohibition took
effect in 1920 a year after the Eighteenth Amendment was passed. Even though there was a ban on
alcohol the seemingly endless party of society still remained. The Volstead Act was passed in 1919 to
clarify the Eighteenth Amendment, and created loopholes for purchasing alcohol. The act allowed
people to drink alcohol if it was prescribed by a doctor. These types of prescriptions quickly became a
new fad. Organized crime boomed during this time with the smuggling and sale of alcohol. Al Capone
had rum from the Caribbean and whiskey from Canada smuggled through the borders. Secret bars
called speakeasies were created to host the illegal alcohol intake. Since all of these dealings were
illegal, speakeasies were always liable to be raided by a Prohibition officer. None of the money from
the sale of alcohol went to the

Raskolnikov As A Good Man Essay
Haley Spackman
Mrs. Mcloud
AP Lit Period 5
14 October 2015 Guilt Raskolnikov lives an ordinary life as an ordinary man. He is a good man and
has a good heart, but he soon commits a crime that will forever change his life. Raskolnikov is a good
man; I believe he is kind, generous, and selfless. Now, how are all of these positive traits found in a
murderer? I think was caught in a psychotic moment, his mental state was not all there, and he had a
dream, he made a plan, and he committed this terrible crime. A good example of Raskolnikov being a
kind hearted person, and selfless is when he sees a young girl at the end of the street, he sees by her a
rough looking man staring at her. He starts to get very worried what this man might do to this young
girl. He goes down the street to get this young girl, and he pays for a taxi to get her home. This was so
generous, and small yet so impactful. Raskolnikov cared about what might happen to this young girl,
and did something about it. This showed how selfless Raskolnikov is, and what a kind heart he has. I
think this shows Raskolnikov s true character. From here, he makes some terrible decisions, and is
engulfed by guilt, but I believe he is a generous, kindhearted person. In this book, Crime And
Punishment, Raskolnikov goes from being an ordinary man with an ordinary life to a murderer,
tortured by guilt, haunted by the memory of his crime, and him finding himself again in society after
the murders. Raskolnikov soon

Antisocial Personality Disorder ( Aspd ) Essay
Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD)
To be considered antisocial is to isolate oneself from general social conditions and demonstrate
behaviors that deviate from the social societal norm. Antisocial Personality disorder describes an
individual that lacks values and habitually violates societal standards in regards to ethics and social
behavior. Individuals with this disorder can be described to lack empathy, act impulsively, and have
flagrant disregard for other people. It is hard for them to form engage in positive social exchanges or
maintain relationships with others. It was only until the early twentieth century that Antisocial
Personality disorder was named. Previously, these individuals were categorized as psychopaths due to
the thrill seeking and cunning nature of their actions. Psychopaths have the ability to change their
personalities to ultimately get what they desire then revert back to a malicious, egocentric state. When
faced with a dangerous adventure, for those with ASPD the choice will always be to peruse the danger.
This is due to a constant underlying feeling of restlessness (Nolen Hoeksema, 2011, p. 272). Although
these traits can be deemed psychopathic this disorder is not only seen in those who have established
themselves as violent criminals, but in those who have established as high ranking members in society.
How can this disorder differentiate itself so starkly within people? Although there are no direct
medical test to diagnose this disorder,

  • 2. Piaget Essay Piaget s Theory of Cognitive Development Jean Piaget was born on August9, 1896, in the French speaking part of Switzerland. At an early age he developed an interest in biology, and by the time he had graduated from high school he had already published a number of papers. After marrying in 1923, he had three children, whom he studied from infancy. Piaget is best known for organizing cognitive development into a series of stages the levels of development corresponding too infancy, childhood, and adolescence. These four stages are labeled the Sensorimotor stage, which occurs from birth to age two, (children experience through their senses), the Preoporational stage, which occurs from ages two to six, (motor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I remember as a child thinking that the sun and moon followed me as I took a walk. In addition, the child s use of language is not as sophisticated as it might seem. Children have a tendency to confuse words with the objects they represent. If a child calls a toy block a car and I use it to make a house , the child may become upset. To children, the name of an object is as much a part of the object as it s size, shape, and color. To the Preoperational child, insulting words may really hurt. (Coon 107). Consider my preschooler calling each other baby . To the adult it is an innocent word, but to the preschooler it is the worst thing they can think of. Piaget s description of the Preoperational stage also focused on all the other things the preschool aged child still cannot do. According to Piaget, egocentrism is a cognitive state in which the child sees the world only from his own perspective, without awareness that there are other perspectives. (Bee and Boyd 155). The child is not being selfish; rather, she simply assumes that everyone sees the world as she does. I see many examples of ego egocentrism on a daily basis in the preschool environment and at home. For example, my daughter, Meryl, who is almost five years old, gets a phone call from her aunt. She begins asking Meryl questions. Instead of saying yes or no , Meryl simply nods her head. ... Giotto Virgin and Child Enthroned The Giotto and Cimabue are obviously different versions of the Virgin and Child Enthroned. But because they are different versions they have their differences. When i first look at the Cimabue piece the first thing i focus my eyes on is the sweet, tender, loving face the Virgin has on her warm yellow face. Her eyes are looking outward towards the audience which i feel helps you feel like you are part of the enthroning. Giotto depicted the Virgins face with a little bit more of a stern look to it. Its not as soft as the one in Giotto. Also the colors are much more cooler so when i look at Giotto s piece i look at the creamy colors like her shirt first instead of ... Pontormo Entombment The Weyden and Pontormo paintings both are trying to depict a similar story in different styles. In Weyden s piece the first thing you notice different from the Pontormo is the colors. In Weyden s piece the colors pop right out you since he used harsh bright colors for their clothing. Unlike Pontormo where he used very soft angelic colors like the pink and light blue and peachy colors. My eyes are attracted to the Weyden more than Pontormo even if its older because it looks so much more realistic than Pontormo. The drapery in Weyden s piece is very realistic as it falls on the bodies of each human standing or falling. The shadows of the drape make them look real as if you can pick them up directly from the painting. In Pontormo the drapery is more of a flowing feel to it. You can tell where it sits but it isn t as realistic and looks as if they were angels helping God up. In the Weyden piece the emotions are very upfront. They seem very upset at the sight of God sacrifice. There is a women who looks as she has fainted and two people caught her ash she fell. Her arm is almost in the same angle as God s arm is as they bring him down. This might have been purposely done to somehow symbolize that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. African Americans And The Civil Rights Movement Mitchell Thomas Ms. Conley English 12 3 March 2015 Research paper Many Americans try to pretend that just because slavery has come to an end and the Civil Rights movement occurred that racism has just suddenly vanished, but that s not the case. A person is not born racist, it is taught while growing up in a racist environment. It is a learned behavior of hate towards someone not you. Racism is very evident in men s professional sports today but also had an even greater effect in the past. There was a point in time where African American males were not allowed to participate in professional sports and they were shunned and labeled as outcasts who did not have the decency to step on the same field, court, or ring. Now that they are allowed to participate in professional sports African Americans have to deal with a great deal of racism in today s society which brings about many controversies such as riots, banning of athletes, team fines, and the sale of teams. In today s society sports has great influence, effect and power which can serve as a bridge for the gap between racism and discrimination. Racism will never fully go away, but as a society work can be done to lessen the problem and come to a point where it is so minuscule it wouldn t even be a thought. People can t change the world unless they change themselves. It starts with the people first. Racism comes from the thought and teachings that people are less than human. It is a thought that plagues minds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This review presents the salient aspects of antibiotic resistance development over the past half century, with the oft restated conclusion that it is time to act. To achieve complete restitution of therapeutic applications of antibiotics, there is a need for more information on the role of environmental microbiomes in the rise of antibiotic resistance. In particular, creative approaches to the discovery of novel antibiotics and their expedited and controlled introduction to therapy are obligatory. If something is not done sooner than later to prevent antibiotic resistance, we will produce the major organism that we will not be unable to kill by some normal manners. The medicine we are taking for infection disease is making the sickness worse not to be better. On January 24, 2017 TransCanada submitted a third application for a Presidential Permit to construct, operate, and maintain the Keystone pipeline system to import crude across the international border of Canada into the US. Originally, TransCanada submitted an application in 2008 and another in 2012 during President Obama s administration. The first two applications received much scrutiny from the State Department, they conducted a combined total of five Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), multiple public comment periods, and analyzed multiple alternative routes. In contrast, the proponents typically exaggerate the economic benefits proclaim the lasting stimulus the project will provide. The truth usually lies somewhere in between. Undoubtedly, the construction phase of the project will provide the most immediate benefit to the US economy than the operation and maintenance phases of the project. During the construction phase, it is estimated that $3.4 billion dollars would be added to the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP). Of that, roughly $2.05 billion would be earmarked for employee earnings related to the construction phase. However, after the construction phase, approximately only 50 permanent employees and 15 temporary contractors would remain to operate the pipeline. This double edged sword can be symbolized by SENDERS of information, and RECEIVERS of information. In its early days, the primary use of the WWW was searching for information, on static pages , to fulfill a particular need or request. Maps, phone numbers, product information, and the like, were available to anyone who searched for it. The WWW was a functional, up to date encyclopedia of information, available with the stroke of a keyboard, at the sender s request. During this time, search devices like Navigator, Google, Yahoo and their many imitators, worked by allowing one person (the sender) to find information about a multitude (the receivers). Hence the origin of the company s name synonymous with the Internet, Google. Send a request; Google will find an answer. It will even tell you how long it took to answer the question! In a real sense, the days of the early WWW could be characterized as follows: Go on the Internet, and find what you are looking for. In split second time. Today, in the era of Web 2.0, the many forms of social media programs have caused a distinct reversal in the most basic operation of the WWW. The roles of sender and receiver have been reversed. So what is wrong with our system of eating ? Why are other countries considered to be healthier then the US. Part of the reason is the way we where brought up. And another reason is the the foods we are given at easy access. But that isn t to say the stores don t play a role in the way that you shop. So what could be a solution to living a healthier life style. Being healthy is a lot more then being lean, its about being smart enough to not letting the stores trick you into buying what they want you to buy, and rather what you need to buy. When you walk into the store to buy milk, bread, meat, and produce. You ll notice that all those things tend to be at the back of the store. They are forcing you to walk through the middle ails where all the unnecessary things they want you to buy are located. So by the time you ve reached the back of the store you have 5 10 items that you didn t intend to buy. Another example is placement on the shelves. The majority of people are right handed so they will make more right turns and as they turn to the right with the cart they place things at eye level to the right so it will catch your eye. • 16. Controlling Images of Black Womanhood In Patricia Hill Collins Mammies, Matriarchs, and Other Controlling Images, she illustrates four main stereotypes that Black women face. The first controlling image applied to African American women is The Mammy. The mammy is the faithful, obedient servant to the white family and the stereotype attempts to hide the fact that black women who work for white families are being exploited. By loving and caring for her white children more than her own, the mammy symbolizes the dominant group s perceptions of the ideal black female relationship to elite white male power. The smiling mammy signals her agreement with the situation, seemingly accepting her subordination (Collins, 71). Next is the image of the Black matriarch (Collins, 73). According to the stereotype, they spend too much time away from home, are overly aggressive and unfeminine, and allegedly emasculate their lovers and husbands. This stereotype attempts to control conduct by punishing black women for assertiveness and hides the oppression by making it seem that black women are naturally this way (Collins, 74 75). The third controlling image of Black womanhood is that of the welfare mother, which is linked to Black women s increasing dependence on the welfare state (Collins, 76). This time, the punishment is for failing to work. Rather than being a bad mother for deserting the children, now the concern is being with the children too much and not working. During the years 1900 2001 a number of significant interventions occurred which affected the growth and nature of Arab nationalism. Several key pressures considerably influenced a change in the nature of nationalism; including, economic levers, agreements and military presenses in the Middle East. However, McMahon s language was so ambiguous and so vague..[that it has] given rise to conflicting interpretations over whether Palestine was included as part of the future independent Arab state . It is for this reason that the Arabs began to distrust Britain. • 34. Geoffrey Chaucer Research Paper This is a story about an author with an unfinished story that survived the passage of time. I will be discussing the life, the works, and the impact of Geoffrey Chaucer. Geoffrey Chaucer was born in 1340, London, England. He is the son of John and Agnes de Copton Chaucer. Chaucer s family were wine merchants. Chaucer s first job was as a page for Elizabeth, the countess of Ulster. Elizabeth was the wife of Prince Lionel, the third son of Edward III. Chaucer was in King Edward s army during early parts of the Hundred Years War in 1359. Unfortunately he was captured during an unsuccessful siege of Rheims. Chaucer is generally considered the father of English poetry, and The Canterbury Tales has been required reading for countless students over the generations. The influence of his work on generations of English language writers is undisputed. Some critics have worried that such wide and shallow exposure of the reading public to Chaucer s work has diluted full appreciation for his complex contribution to literature. Critic Derek Traversi says, The appreciation of Geoffrey Chaucer has suffered a good deal in the past from his reputation as the Father of English poetry. It has been easy to think of him as a naif, the possessor of a charming simplicity of outlook which tends to convey itself, for a modern reader, through language considered picturesque or simply childish, alternately quaint or redolent of innocence for readers who think of themselves as more sophisticated and more psychologically complex. However, this view is not correct, Traversi argues: His early poems show him engaged in exploring the possibilities of the English language as an instrument for sophisticated literary creation. As poet William Blake put it, over four hundred years after the book s first publication: Of Chaucer s characters, as described in his Canterbury Tales, some of the names are altered by Time, but the Characters themselves for ever remain unaltered and consequently they are the Physiognomies or lineaments of ... Kierkegaard loathed how cold and detached the Christian faith had become, so he saw it fit that he remind people what being a Christian truly meant. In his famous work Fear and Trembling, Kierkegaard declares that no person has a right to delude others into the belief that faith is something of no great significance, or that it is an easy matter, whereas it is the greatest and most difficult of all things. The difficulty of faith lies in the requirement of sacrifice. The story of Abraham s near sacrifice of his beloved son, Isaac, is what Kierkegaard utilizes to demonstrate how costly faith in God is. Here is a man, who after seventy years of waiting for God s promise of offspring finally received his son, is commanded by God to slay his promised son with no stated reason for doing so. NHS has undergone many changes since its inception in 1948 and it has become a cliché to say that only thing which is constant in the NHS is change. There are many drivers of these changes the external and internal, the patient led, the policy led and also the changes driven by politics (Buchanan et al, 2013) and finances (DOH, 2010). This essay will critically analyse models of change and how they are relevant to my organisation (NHS). This essay will also critically evaluate human dimensions of change and how they impact on success and implementation of organisational change. Why NHS (National Health Service) Organisations Need Change? Usually a need to change a service is identified, based on feed back from staff or patients, though there are numerous examples in the NHS when the managers or ministers (Darzi, 2008, Francis 2013) were forced to take decisions because of critical incidents or massive failure noted by an external review of an NHS Trust (Francis, 2013, Berwick, 2013). Lord Darzi s (2008) NHS Next Stage Review described a model of clinician led change leadership in the NHS (The King Fund, 2011), by doing so Lord Darzi aspired to provide frontline staff with greater freedom to make positive changes to deliver best quality of care. Howard Hawks is one such director who used the restrictions of the Production Code to his advantage. Both of these endings work well in their respective mediums. There is no written law that says a producer or director has to strictly reinforce all the themes of the novel that are being adapted to the screen. If this were true that would make for an entirely dull piece of work, which brings me to the Michael Winner version. Lacking the stars of Bogart and Bacall, the film inserts sexuality by glorifying Carmen Sternwood s nude body at every opportunity. She appears quite a few times, as Chandler would say; in her birthday suit alongside a gratuitous shot of the Schoolgirls porno magazine that Geiger distributes. The problem does not lay in the vulgarity of this blatant flamboyance of flesh; however, it adheres to the common false mystique that exhibitionism equals sex appeal. Another fault in Michael Winners remake is its strict adherence to the plot of the novel. The relationship between Vivian and Marlowe in the movie is non existent. It seems as though Robert Mitchum, playing Marlowe, has more fun flirting with Agnes, played by Joan Collins, in Geiger s bookstore than with the snotty, senior Sternwood sister.
