My Love Of Dance
It seems like from the moment I could walk, I have had a love for dancing. When I was little,
every chance I got, I would perform in front of my family. Whether I was singing, dancing,
dressing up, or pretending to be a model on the runway, I wanted all the attention on me. When my
mom put me into dance classes, I instantly fell in love with it, because the whole time, I got to do
what I loved the most: perform. As the years went on, dancebecame something I was truly
passionate about, and the lessons I learned from it began to change me. Those lessons and the ones
I am still learning from dance have had a huge impact on me, making me into the person I am today.
When I was little dance was a way to have fun and be a star, and I could show the big outgoing
personality I had, but I became more reserved and shy as I grew up. Throughout intermediate
school and junior high, I remained someone who was an introvert and strayed away from most
social encounters. During this time, dance was something that allowed me to express what I was
feeling, but without words. The few friends I had at the time had been in my life since
kindergarten. Life was very comfortable and easy for me since I had lived in the same place
forever. I didn t want anything to change, and the idea of anything changing scared me. What I
didn t know was that a change would be exactly what I needed.
At the start of high school, my family moved to a new town. This meant making a whole new group
of friends. But how?

Uncertainty Reduction Theory And Uncertainty Reduction Theory
Being away from home for the first time and having to start over and make all new friends can
be both exciting and intimidating at the same time. When I first moved into my freshmen dorm
at UNCW three years ago, I was certainly feeling this rush of emotions. I was excited to meet
new people, but also scared I wouldn t make any friends who I connected as well with as my
high school friends. I was especially nervous about having to live with a roommate who I hardly
knew. I had always heard horror stories from my older friends and family members about having a
crazy roommate who they just couldn t get along with. Fortunately, my roommmate Kelly and I
became great friends and were not only able to survive freshmen year of college, but continued to
live together all four years of college. This transformation in our relationship from virtual strangers,
to the best of friends can be explained by Charles Berger s Uncertainty Reduction Theory.
Uncertainty Reduction Theory is the assumption that when strangers meet, their primary concern is
one of uncertainty reduction or increasing the predictability about the behavior of both themselves
and others in the interaction. We are motivated to search for this information for one of more of
three reasons anticiptation of future interaction, incentive value, and deviance. With Kelly my
motives were mostly based on anticipation of future interaction. Not only would I see her again,
but I would have to interact with on a daily basis on a

The Development of New Ethnic Identities such as Black...
The Development of New Ethnic Identities such as Black British or British/Asian When referring
to British Asians, the majority of us often fall into the trap of understanding the Asians referred to
are linked to the Indian Subcontinent, i.e. India, Pakistan etc. What we tend to forget is that Asians
are associated with a number of different countries and with Asia being the largest continent in the
world, what exactly is meant by the term British Asians? Generally, here in Britain, they are
perceived to be the brown kind and are often associated with the Indian subcontinent. This may
seem like a genuine error, but colloquially speaking we have come to accept this fact and refer to it
commonly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those that the criticising Asians believe have been prompted by western society and essentially
the white man . And whichever Asian that may follow in the footsteps of such traditions and
ideologies is known as a coconut , brown on the outside, white on the inside. It appears that
British Asians have adopted the culture of the host country and have assimilated into this
society quite clearly. This can be argued to be a intentional by some members of the Asian
community and others may well suggest it is an unintended consequence of living and growing
up in Britain. Such a term has gradually eroded and faded from the minds of the people that
used it commonly. It seems that nowadays a new type of culture has emerged and that British
Asians a have now integrated into British Society and are now more or less at home and come to
terms with who they are and what they believe. But to what extent is this true? Are Asians still
the reserved people they once were or are they breaking free from the confines that they
themselves had created and developed keeping morale s preserved just as they have been on the
other side of the world? But how far can one go in actually accepting the fact that the majority of
Asians have adopted and amalgamated into the western society to a

Differences Between The Giver Book And Movie
This essay is about comparing the Giver book and movie. The Giver is a story about a boy
named Jonas who was chosen to be the community s next Receiver of Memory. He lived in a
community where everything was chosen for the citizens, and everything was perfect. During Jonas
training, he realized that the community was missing something and that there was more in the
world. Jonas wanted the everybody to know that. The Giver book was then made into a movie.
Though the two were based on the same story, there are three important differences that could ve
made them two separate stories. The three main differences between the book and the movie are

His parents did, and Lily did, and so did all of his group members and friends. But there were a
few exceptions: Jonas himself, and a female Five who he had noticed had the different, lighter
eyes, (pg. 20 Lois Lowry). Only those with light eyes would become the next Receiver of
Memory, which is why it was such an important detail. In the Giver movie, it was changed into a
birthmark. That birthmark was shaped like a triangle and in the movie, all Receivers of
Memory had them. The third main difference between The Giver book and the movie was the
Chief Elder s role. In the Giver book, the Chief Elder was not much of an important character,
The initial speech at the Ceremony of Twelve was made by the Chief Elder, the leader of the
community who was elected every ten years, (pg. 51 Lois Lowry). However, the Chief Elder
played an important role in the Giver movie. In the book, the Chief spoke in a few chapters
during Ceremonies and that was all. The Giver movie s Chief Elder always watched Jonas
closely. She started becoming suspicious of Jonas, and so she would warn Jonas mother and The
Giver. She then found out about Jonas plan to escape. When she did, she ordered Asher to lose
him (The Giver movie). That meant she wanted Asher to kill Jonas. This essay was about the three
main differences between the Giver book and the Giver movie. The first main difference was
talked about in the first body paragraph. That paragraph was about

The Political Culture Of Politics
The term politics itself has changed over many years. To ask if the evolution of political culture
changes how people participate in politics is simple. The answer is yes. To begin with, let s
define political culture; Authors define the term political culture as the particular distribution of
patterns of orientation towards political objects among the members of a nation (Almond and
Verba 1963: 13 cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014 p.285). Now let s define culture; the term
culture covers a broad set of phenomena. It includes traditions, habits, and patterns of behaviour
shaped by a society s prevailing beliefs, norms and values (Nolan and Lenski, 1999 cited in
Welzel and Inglehart, 2014 p.285). Taking this into account, examples of culture could be how to
play hopscotch in a playground or following the rules to a game of tennis or badminton. To
address the question, this essay will firstly assess how any capable individual is able to participate
in politics and secondly if the growth of political culture has increased or decreased participation.
A question that is frequently asked is how can one be involved in politics? There are many
options. One option can be by joining a political party which interests them and that has a good
manifesto with policies that they would like to see take place and therefore taking part in elections
and voting. A second option can be by being part of a pressure group for example, one that
represents those against smoking called

Old Oratorio New Contemporary Christian Music
Old Oratorio New Contemporary Christian Music
Music has always been very important to religion, and the music has always been changing. At
the beginning, the music told a story of a biblical event. The current day music tells a story about
life and how Jesus Christ can fix the problem because he is all powerful. Oratorio is one example
of older religion music. The current type of religion music is called Contemporary Christian music.
There is a lot of different types between these two. Oratorio and Contemporary music differs a lot;
however, they both speak about the perfect Jesus Christ, but that is about all they have in
commons. Oratorio music was very sacred music in its time. It was very sacred; however, it was
not played during church. They were played more for concerts. Oratorio had three different parts
that was in every piece. Those three parts would consist of a choir, soloist, and orchestra. Every
piece comes from a biblical story. The most famous composer from the Baroque ere, the era that
oratorio was played, was George Frideric Handel. A few of his most famous pieces came from the
subjects, Israel in Egypt, Jephtha, Judas, Saul, and Messiah (Baily 169). Contemporary Christian
music is the complete opposite of Oratorio music. Contemporary music consist of stories about
having a relationship with Jesus Christ, biblical inerrancy, and spreading Gods holy word. They
take the form of hard rock, dance pop, and hip hop (Lindenbaum 70). Femi Adedeji wrote a paper

San Diego Drought
How does the California drought affect local ecotourism in San Diego? Water has been around for
almost as long the Earth has been around, approximately 4.6 billion years ago. In some shape or
form, water has continued to be an important resource since the formation of Earth and continues to
be today as well. Water being a finite abundant substance, it covers up approximately 70 percent of
the Earth s surface. It is without a doubt an essential resource needed to sustain life on Earth.
Nonetheless, not only is water an important resource for all living organisms for subsistence, but it
also serves other purposes: agriculture purposes, medical and health purposes, tourism and much
more. However, with the recent emergence of the issue surrounding... Show more content on

California is a geographically dry area and water shortage has been a serious issue affecting the
state since 2012. California has the highest water consumption compared to all the other states
and this partly due to the reason that roughly eighty percent of the state s water is used towards
agriculture; California being the largest agricultural export distributor in the country (Green).
Since of 2012, California has been on a severe four year drought and has had immediate plans
and regulations in order to reduce the impact it has. According to California Water Science
Center, 2014 was the third driest year on record and following that, 2015 [was] the warmest year
on record. The recent record breaking climate has contributed to the drought of California and as a
result has had detrimental impacts to the environment. Severe climate during a shortage of water
can lead to drastic problems because it can lead to an increase of evapotranspiration and increase of
precipitation falling as rain rather than snow. Having precipitation falling more often as rain rather
than snow during warm weather can lead to early snowmelt which can unbalance the water supply
demands (Causes of Drought). During a drought, occasionally humans are impacted, but more
importantly the environment experiences the impacts harshly. Wildlife habitat lost, inadequate food
and water

The main way networks communicate is through a process called protocols which is basically the
instructions that the computer follows when transmitting and receiving information. You can t see
any of these processes happening, they are all different types of networks with different variations
of protocols which make networks connect together and be able to communicate with each other.
All this is then displayed to the client on the screen without them being able to see anything except
from a few clicks. For example the way a Router communicates to a computer is through an IP
address which is assigned by the router which will then find the computer and transmit information

Pros And Cons Of Ecotourism
Abstract
Eco tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in the world today. It is a form of natural
resources based tourism focused on experiencing and learning about nature. The term ecotourism
can be well described with the following five criteria: nature conservation, low impact, sustainability
, meaningful community involvement, and environmental education. Environmental education
must be fulfilled to perform ecotourism and is the step towards the process of understanding the
natural ecosystems.
Ecotourism has been growing rapidly over the last decades. Yet, while ecotourism has the potential
to create positive environmental and social impacts, it can unfortunately be as damaging as mass
tourism if not done properly.

Forest and marine habitats are being destroyed and some of the wildlife they contain is being
driven to extinction under the pressures of hunting, logging, agriculture, and fishing. Where areas
have been officially reserved for nature conservation, many developing country governments lack
sufficient funds to manage and protect them. These areas are being destroyed because they are not

Classroom Rules
Classroom Rules:
1. Be prepared for each class (I promise to show up dressed and ready and expect the same from
you. The naked mental image of me lecturing will now haunt you for the rest of your days).
2. Show respect for all people, their opinions, beliefs, religions, etc. I enjoy a good discussion, but
I will not tolerate rudeness or disrespect for others (a good discussion means that you use Critical
Thinking Skills combined with facts and support while refusing to use flawed logic or name
calling).
3. Be Friendly, Positive and Self Reflective: When people cannot see you, and also do not know
you, feelings can be hurt if you are not careful in how you express yourself. The old saying, think

A solid connection with other students is instrumental in being successful in college. Create study
groups (I learned this late in my schooling, but it is a great idea).
12. Do not complain about the grade that a teacher gave you. Students are no longer given grades;
they earn them (a slight change from kindergarten that a few students struggle with). I grade
according to the syllabus and how effectively students meet the assignment objectives.
13. I do not care what grade you need to make. I do care that you improve as a student (earning a
certain grade is your concern while your being an educated student is mine).
14. If you cheat, you will earn a 0 and not be given a second chance on the assignment (if you are
cheating, I do not want you in a medical, legal, military or any other important career. P.S. there is
such a thing as a permanent record).
15. Only write about what you are passionate (if you do not care about the subject, I can guarantee
you that I will not be). The only caveat to this is being sure that you can objectively distance
yourself from emotional topics to see the flaws in your logic.
16. Communicate with me (I skipped the day where they taught mind reading in school and have
regretted it ever since).
17. Learn to skip excuses and take responsibility for all that occurs (being late for class or missing
assignments consistently means that it is your fault not someone or something else).

How Does Chaucer Present The Miller To Become Such A Vivid And Vibrant

The Canterbury Tales is a selection of stories written in Middle
English. On a spring day in April sometime in the 14th century 29 pilgrims (including Chaucer as a
character 30) set out for Canterbury on a pilgrimage.
Among them is a knight, a monk, a prioress, two nun s, the friar, the squire, the yeoman, the
merchant, a clerk, a sergeant of the law, a wealthy landowner, a doctor, the wife of Bath, a
supplier, the reeve, a somonour, a pardoner, Harry Bailey (the host), Chaucer himself, a

The solution says Nicholas, is to wait overnight for it in a tub suspended from the barn rafters, and
to cut the tub from the roof of the barn when the water has risen, which carpenter does.
While Nicholas and Alison lie together, Absolon appears and asks
Alison for a kiss. She sticks her bottom out the window, and he kisses it with relish, pausing only
when he feels bristly hair and considers that no woman has a beard. He realizes the prank and,
enraged, disappears to get a red hot poker. Returning, he asks for another kiss.
This time Nicholas, who had risen from the bed to urinate, sticks his bottom out of the window
and farts loudly; Absolon brands him in the rear. He cries for water, awakening the carpenter, who
thinks that the second flood is come at last. He panics and cuts himself down, breaking his arm;
the rest of the town awakens to find him lying screaming in the tub on the floor of the barn. The
villagers came to see the commotion and they saw Alisoun was in the bed and Nicholas standing
naked. After that, the Carpenter was considered a madman and a cuckold by the whole town.
Imagery is one of the key ways that Chaucer describes his character.
He does this through similes using animals repeatedly even within the tale miller compares animals
to people.
Chaucer describes the miller s beard as sow s ear, suggesting that the hair is coarse; however this

Realism In The Yellow Wall-Paper
The Period of Realism and Naturalism
Realism and Naturalism are literary movements that appeared across America in the late 19th and
early 20th centuries. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites
(Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most
evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of
detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). On the other hand,
naturalism focuses on a more romantic, view of human life than realism (Baym and Levine 902).
Authors that concentrated on realism include Kate Chopin and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Within
their stories, it becomes clear on which issues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two characters have different levels of rationality. Of the two, Mrs. Mallard is slightly
more rational. She is an eloquent woman who knows what she wants. Mrs. Mallard depicts life
in a very clear and intellectual way. It seems, though, that she is able to do such extraordinary
logical thinking after the passing of her husband. Now that the burden of her husband has been
severed, she no longer has a mental strain. An example of this is when she states, In the street
below a peddler was crying his wares. The notes of a distant song which some one was singing
reached her faintly, and countless sparrows were twittering in the eaves (556). This line shows
how sharp she can be now that she does not have her husband s powerful will bending hers (556).
Aside from that, Mrs. Mallard s sense of hearing is perceptive and she is oddly mindful of her
surroundings. The narrator from The Yellow Wall paper is more irrational and the cause might
be the lack of freedom her superiors impose. Due to her oppression, she has become obsessed
with the wall paper. She stares at the wall paper with the purpose of finding meaning in her
hopeless life. Consequently, this is how she passes her time since she is confined to a room with
very limited things to do. As time passes, she becomes overly obsessed with the wall paper as she
points out that, they connect diagonally, and the sprawling outlines run

Basic Terminology For A State Of Affairs
Basic Terminology: Unit Three
Sheila Elyse Brooks

April 27, 2015
Introduction As we continue our journey through the trials and errors of understanding basic
statistical terminology. Let s focus our attention on the following: understanding what is the
difference between a hypothesis, statistical hypothesis, and an experimental hypothesis. In addition,
I want to explore how researchers determine the appropriate sample size. Now, some of you might
be asking the question what do we do once we have our hypothesis and sample population? Well,
now is a wonderful time to start experimenting with statistical methods like the chi square test. I
will explain this later on.

However, most clinical research associates do not hold medical degree of any type. This makes it
rather to master the skills I need when I see my patients. Often, we are not allowed to open any lab
kits (because they are in sequential order) which makes nurses prone to more mistakes. When I first
came to Mount
Carmel, I notice we had simulators. So, I began to think how these simulators could reduce the
clinical errors in research. My hypothesis (state of affairs) could be: Clinical research nurses who
practice on simulators are more likely to have fewer medical errors then those who do not. My
Experimental hypothesis: Clinical research nurses are 25% more likely to make mistakes when
performing clinical skills (such as lab draws and administering study medication) then those nurses
who practice on patient simulators. My experiment: Compare the performance of nurses who use
patient simulators to practice specific study related skills versus those who do not. After you figure
out your hypothesis, you must consider what makes a good estimate .
Making Good Estimates We obtain a sample in order to obtain a statistical measurement such as a
mean form our observation. One can say that different sample sizes would produce different values
or variations. The variation between these individual estimates is due to sampling error (Fowler et

Gender roles is a major theme in Antigone. The characters all have different ways of acting on the

also significant when it comes to the gender roles in the play. Due to the time period, women and
men were expected to act a certain way. Antigoneand Haemon do not act like the typical woman

actions the characters choose to take is what leads to conflict in the play.

Sylvia Plath s importance to American history results from the literary distinction of her writing
style, as well as her works that show the difficulty of women in the mid twentieth century. Plath s
significance comes from her writing styles in which she opened the doors to exploration of
feminism to a masculine led society. Plath s life can be explored through her poems and her
stories. By aligning SylviaPlath s works to the events throughout her lifetime, we can have a better
understanding of Plath s importance. Daddyis probably one of Sylvia Plath s best known poems. It

himself Zits. Zits uses humor, violence, and shock value to cope with how he has been treated
by his absent father and the foster system. Zits uses his vocabulary as a defense mechanism

how Zits speech patterns provide insight to how he feels about certain characters and situations.
Zits uses a distinctive naming system when he is unaware of a character s real name. Zits

E.E. Cummings writes a compelling piece of art that encompasses everything a poem has to

The Roots Of The Enlightenment
Between the years of 1685 1815 the focus of European thought had drastically shifted as a result of
what is known as the Age of Reason era, or more commonly known as the Enlightenment. The roots
of the enlightenment sprang about during the time of the Renaissance. Enlightenment thinkers such
as David Hume, Voltaire, and Jean Jacques Rousseau questioned the traditional ways of authority,
and looked to improve mankind with logical changes. The American Revolution, was partially due
to members of the enlightened sect, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. The Enlightment
roots started in the early 17th century where contributors sought to shed light on human intellect as
well as culture after what is known as the dark middle ages. The notion

Reflective Essay On Cooperative Groupings
I started teaching Mathematics at La Quinta middle school back in 1988. my third year teaching
The state was trying to revolutionize mathematics teaching in there starting at the middle school
level. it was called Renaissance math. cut away from the textbook approach and relied heavily on
activities, Cooperative grouping, and somatic units. we spent a lot of time working on Cooperative
groupings. Introducing the kids to activities where they had to work together. I got to where I
really loved the Cooperative grouping approach, but as you can imagine especially with middle
schoolstudents it was exhausting to do it everyday.
Introduce the kids to Cooperative groupings we first talked about the roles that each student had
within their group. I usually had 8 groups within the classroom. and I usually had numbers
tacked on the ceiling to indicate wh which group was wh where. most of the groups consisted of
4 students, sometimes or 5 students in a group. the four roles which I had students use were the
group manager (Responsible for keeping everyone on task and encourage them to do their best
work), the recorder (All the writing for the group and is The lead when it comes to put in a
project together), the timekeeper ( encourages the group to stay on task and keep track of how
much time has left in the period), And the materials manager (In charge of getting and returning
supplies needed for the class period). Every student is responsible for being the speaker at some

And Then There Were None Mystery
What would you do if you were lured to an island by someone claiming to be an old friend, or
sent to complete a job? One by one someone is murdered. The murderer is one of the ten people
among you, and as one person dies that s one less person who is guilty. Would you be the person
who takes charge? The one who goes insane? Or would you lie low and hope noone notices you?
In the book And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
, the main mystery elements used were:
main conflict, setting, characterization, and the author s techniques of giving clues.
The main conflict in the story is person versus person, or the murders of the ten people who
were apparently murdered because they were guilty of a crime themselves. Everyone is killed in
a certain way, by the lyrics of a nursery rhyme hung in their bedrooms. (31). On the centerpiece of
the dining table there are ten indian boys, everyone thought it was very clever since the name of
the island they were staying on was Indian Island. That was until they realized each indian boy
represented one of them and as one person died one indian boy was taken off the centerpiece. (74)

Maya Angelou s the Graduation
Maya Angelou s The Graduation Throughout life we go through many stepping stones, Maya
Angelou s autobiographical essay Graduation , was about more than just moving on to another
grade. The unexpected events that occurred during the ceremony enabled her to graduate from the
views of a child to the more experienced and sometimes disenchanting views of an adult. Upon
reading the story there is an initial feeling of excitement and hope which was quickly tarnished with
the awareness of human prejudices. The author vividly illustrates many mood changes she
undergoes throughout the story. From the outset of the story there is an overwhelming sense of

All her perfect practice was now gone and the strain as they fumbled for their chairs began to
crush their pattern. The author was overcome with a presentiment of worse things to come. Don
Leavy s speech caused a fury to start boiling inside of the author due to the assumed fact that she
has lost control over her future. The accomplishment was nothing. , she has already been picked
to act and assume a certain role in society. Anything they aspired for other than maids or farmers
was farcial and presumtous. Along with this fury came frustration. This frustration is like a
blanket that is too short to cover you, no matter how much you stretch and pull, it never covers
you whole. This is now what was consuming her mind. For the moment she had to sit there and
listen to the garbage filling the room, listen to charges brought against my color. What had been
beautiful, was now ugly. She hated the human race for what it had become, a race or mass of
people concreted on bias. The ceremony that had started out as a night of hope had now become
an eternity of hopelessness. Moving from a childlike bliss to an awakening of the world s
prejudice, the author makes the words take on flesh. The story is made alive as she breathes life
into a time that is unpleasant yet not void of hope. The hush hush magic time of frills and gifts and
congratulations disappeared when they were told the cold hard `truth of their fate that some white
man had already decided for them.

Cause And Effects Of Migraine
Migraine
Migraine is extreme head pain whereby one also experiences other phenomena such as intolerance
to light, one may be disturbed by sound and also distressed by smell. Migraine is debilitating to
many, with sufferers experiencing some or all of the following: nausea, vomiting, eye pain, blurred
vision, intensely intolerable throbbing pain (usually on one side of the head which may come and
go in waves), sensitivity to light and sounds, smell and touch, and migraine may last up to three
days1. Statistically, women suffer migraines more commonly and often then men, by an
approximate 3:1 ratio.
Many sufferers mention they know when a migraine will come on (they experience an aura). Aura
or warning symptoms may occur before onset or during migraine, which may include blind spots,
flashes of light or bright spots, tingling or numbness (facial, arm or leg).
Causes of Migraine
Migraine may be caused by a number of triggering2 factors, some being:
Hormone changes (women especially experiencing estrogen fluctuations, which happen with the
monthly cycle, and which may also happen even during pregnancy or menopause).
Brain chemical imbalances. Serotonin, which helps regulate pain in the nervous system, is one
such chemical under study by researchers for it s role in migraine.
Foods, some of which may be red wine, very old cheeses, chocolate, caffeine, soy, dairy, food
additives, monosodium glutamate, salty, pickled/fermented and processed foods.

The industrial revolution was a movement that began in mainly in England and Germany during the
18th 19th century. It then spread throughout the world. The industrial revolution introduced the
notion of function, ergonomics, and the use of modern materials. Designers had to think of new
ways to create objects with the use of modern industrial materials in a cheaper and more efficient

Similarities Between A Midsummer Night s Dream And The...
In John Webster s The Duchess of Malfi and William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream,
women react to authority in significantly different ways. The authors focus both on women
showing acceptance to power and women who shy away from it. In the plays, the Duchess and
Hermia defy the abuse of power, while Helena and Cariola submit to it.
In The Duchess of Malfi, the Duchess s brothers go to extreme measures to ensure she stays
unwed. The Duchess s husband, the Duke of Malfi, had just perished, leaving her sad and alone.
Her horribly corrupt brothers, the Cardinal and Ferdinand, appear quite adamant that their sister

Even after the Duchess s brothers tell her they will either jail or execute her if she remarries, she
remarries anyway because she determinately wanted that for herself. The Duchess knew her corrupt
brothers could cause her serious harm, but she followed her heart because she just wanted happiness.
Hermia disobeyed her father in almost the exact same way the Duchess had disobeyed her
brothers. Even though her father already had a marriage arranged for her, she had fallen in love
with another man. Hermia s father wanted her to be sent to a nunnery or put to death if she does
not marry Demetrius. Hermia, even after hearing the awful things that could happen to her if she
disobeys her father, runs off with Lysander instead because she loves him; and love conquers all.
These women, even after being threatened by men, show strength and do not bow down to their
authority.
The other main comparison between the two plays shows how behind the Duchess and Hermia,
the strong and powerful women, lies Helena and Cariola, the weak and powerless women.
Cariola shows bravery all the way up until her death where she begs and pleads for her life, and
Helena lets countless men walk all over her and does not seem to care. Both women show weakness

Attempts to Connect in Joyce Carol Oates Shopping Essay
Attempts to Connect in Shopping
Although Shopping, written by Joyce Carol Oates, is fiction, the story portrays a relationship that
represents many parents and children have in real life. The child is growing up and wants to spread
her wings. However, the parent usually does not want to let go. Arguments and the awkward
silences are frequent. The seemingly useless attempts to connect with the son or daughter are also
frequent. Yet, what the child does not realize is that no matter how old she may get, she is still the
parent s child. The mother is not going to forget how precious her little baby is, yet that is what the
mother does in this story. Oates uses references to pregnancy to portray the relationship between

This implies that at previous times, the conversation ended up in an argument. Nowadays, Mrs.
Dietrich just does not say a word, as if she is afraid that an argument could permanently end that
mother daughter relationship. This awkwardness is apparent throughout the story and prevents
Mrs. Dietrich from opening up to her daughter. Communication is critical if Mrs. Dietrich wants to
bond and achieve a close relationship with her daughter.
Throughout the story, images of pregnancy occur. These references portraythat intimate
relationship between a mother and daughter. Mrs. Dietrich saw herself as a beautiful and
rapturous woman when she was pregnant. She knew it would be a girl and that her baby would
be herself again, reborn and this time perfect (838). She referred to herself as someone who has
failed in life. She saw her daughter as an image of herself, but she did not want her daughter to
live a life of failure like her. She hoped her daughter would not grow to become the type of
person that she disliked. She wanted her to be perfect . Later in the story, while Nola is looking
at herself in the mirror, Mrs. Dietrich again pictures herself as pregnant. She liked how pregnancy
seemed to bring everything to the present tense. Mrs. Dietrich longs to have that feeling of when
she and her daughter were one again (838 9). At the end, Nola begins to cry when she sees an old

The goblin men are trying to control the two girls by using their fruits and singing. The
customary cry,/ Come buy, come buy (231 232). Rossetti shows how the goblin men are
drawing in the women and essentially controlling them. This exhibits what feminism is against
because they believe women should be independent. Feminism is present in many ways
throughout the poem. It is shown again when Rossetti says, Maids heard the goblin cry (2).
Rossetti suggests that women have challenges and obstacles that men aren t familiar with. Men
usually disregard feminism in today s world because they don t think feminism is a real
movement, but Rossetti says that men have no idea what women go through and how hard it
can be sometimes. The goblin men have fruits that they try to lure women in with how luscious
and elegant they look. The fruits represent societal issues on drugs. The goblin men are people
who have already succumbed to the pressures of drugs. Laura and Lizzie represent people who
are fighting to stay on the clean side. Once Laura goes and buys their fruit she has converted over

Naturalistic Dualism Gertler
In her essay Brie Gertler defends the idea of naturalistic dualism. Naturalistic dualism means the
view that mental states are non physical. Gertler begins with an argument made by Descartes in
his Mediations. She expands and defends this argument. She then begins by describing a version
of physicalism called the identity thesis, which every type of mental state is identical to some
type of physical state. Her example was relating pain to c fibers. If a theory says that pain is
identical to C fiber stimulation, then pain is impossible without C fiber stimulation. Therefore, if
mental states such as pain can possibly occur even if one has no physical state, then the identity
thesis is false. Gertler defends dualismby arguing that it is possible

The Theme Of Flood Themes In The Gilgamesh Epic
[Title] The concept of ravaging waters destroying all of earth except one sole man and woman is
a constant theme across cultures. Almost all ethnic groups possess a story of a family surviving
a flood to repopulate the rest of the world. This idea is present in the Bible, in the Gilgamesh
epic, to even the Chinese. I will argue that mythological journeys across culture demonstrate a
reoccurring flood theme. The first flood myth recorded was in the Gilgamesh epic. Gilgamesh
was a demigod who sought after immortality after his best friend Enkidu dies. During this quest
he aims to find Utnapishtim, the one man that survived the great flood of the gods. According to
Moran, the flood was not a part of the original Gilgamesh epic (1995). The ancient Mediterranean
flood story states that Utnapishtim was chosen by the gods because mankind was intolerable. The
deity Ea warns Utnapishtim to build and ark and save the human race. Following the completion
of the ark, it begins to rain for 6 days and 6 nights. Concluding the rain, Utnapishtim s boat is
trapped on a mountain top for 7 additional days. At the end of his ordeal, Utnapishtim offers a
sacrifice to the gods, but Enlil is enraged that he escaped their efforts. Ea comes to Utnapishtim
rescue and convinces the gods that he escaped without any assistance. As a reward for his survival,
the gods grant Utnapishtim immortality. Moran argues that the story found it s way to be attributed
with the epic because it demonstrates that

successful companies and possible segments for each of them that solidify the growing market
for internet radio. Specifically, the customer segment of females who are teens to their early 20

the new service have started less than a decade ago but has already been a huge factor of how
people listen to their music. Instead of buying physical, hard copies of an artist s album, people
either buy the song digitally or now use a specific software that will allow them to stream and
listen to any song they want for free. The use of applications on smartphones also aid in this world
wide domination of internet radio. Normally, the trial versions of this software will include
advertisements by companies who pay the streaming music companies. If someone has an aversion

Same Sex Marriage And Civil Rights For Same-Sex Marriage
Same sex Marriage is a question that comes across my path on a consistent basis. The agency
where I work advocates this practice, which requires yearly training videos to ensure everyone
understands the rules of the practice. Although our society bends the laws to support this practice, I
will argue that government laws do not hold true to God s law or even the law of nature.
Additionally, I will argue that marriage, by natural law, is designed for procreating purposes.
When someone thinks of marriage, it is two people, man, and woman, that have fallen in love,
went through the ceremony, have children, and the circle of life begins. Marriage has a specific
orientation to having children. The first of Augustine s three goods of marriage children would be
inapplicable to covenant partnerships: the second and third goods faithfulness and the bond of
permanence would very much apply. But marriage has been re ordered by the resurrection of
Christ, shares Thatcher.
In contrast, the argument for same sex marriage is that it is just like civil rights of that African
Americans. The civil rights movement and civil rights for African Americans are nowhere near the
same or in comparison to a social agenda pushed by those for same sex marriages. According to
History.com, shares a portion of the struggle for civil rights for African Americans:

Environmental Problems In The Environment
Environmental issues run through the entire development of humankind at different historical
stages. Due to the differences in the level of production and productivity, the types of
environmental problems, and the scope and extent of their impacts are also different and can be
broadly divided into three stages: From the appearance of mankind till the Industrial Revolution, it
was the stage of early environmental problems; From the industrial revolution to the discovery of
the Antarctic ozone hole in 1984, it is a stage of modern environmental problems; From 1984 to

Therefore, people often blame the environmental problems to the development of chemistry and the

started in the 18th century not only brought hope and joy to mankind, but also laid the latent threat
of human existence and development. Western countries first entered the process of
industrialization, enjoying the prosperity brought about by industrialization as soon as possible and
earning the earliest bitter pill of industrialization. Beginning in the 1950s, environmental pollution
incidents came one after another, resulting in thousands of lives being threatened and even many
people died. The world currently environmental problems mainly include climate change, ozone
depletion, deforestation and biodiversity reduction, atmospheric and

Technology s Impact on Childhood, a Comparison of the Past the Present
The advances of technology in the past fifty years have endangered the future of active childhoods.
While these advances have shown as a great benefit to the worlds of business, education and
medicine, the impact on family life and communication has put the health and development of our
children at risk. Reduced nutritional guidance, outdoor activity and organized family time has been
the result of electronic make your life easier gadgets while the time saved is now spent consuming
additional hours of television or internet browsing.

The game goes into overtime so everyone gets a late night, not shutting off the TV until almost
10:30pm.
The mother, employed, rises at dawn to hit the gym early since she knows she ll have a late
night at work that evening. She spends the day updating agendas for meetings and making
business calls through her lunch hour, while she dines on a Lipton cup of soup. After texting her
kids to instruct them to order a pizza at 6pm for her to pick up on her way home, she also
remembers that they probably have some homework to attend to, so she texts them to use Google
if they have any difficulty getting their assignments completed. She returns home with the pizza
just in time for the televised hockey game to begin, and enjoys the remainder of the evening with
her family watching the game. She s a bit annoyed they started watching the game immediately,
but only because the commercials cannot be cut out as they could have if they taped the game on
the PVR. Making lemons from lemonade, she catches up on all of her emailing with business
associates who she meant to contact earlier that day, and looks forward to their replies in the
morning. Her online calendar has conveniently allowed one of her clients to see she has a
cancellation tomorrow at 8am, so they quickly email her to fill the spot. She accepts.

White Cottage Essay
In 1845, events in the British Isles included the invention of the rubber band, the manufacture of
self raising flour, and the infamous Jack the Ripper took his first victim. None of these made the
slightest ripple in Holmeside, where day to day life did not change enough to be worth talking
about, except for the passing of old faces and the birth of new ones. Otherwise, life went on as
predictably as it had since the Ludditeuprising, although there were few old enough to remember
much about it. Mill workers in Holmeside died early, as did all factory workers. Sarah Gledhill
was an exception. She outlived most of her contemporaries.
There was some change in that place, but it had happened at such a slow pace as to be imperceptible.

In the old Luddite days she and her contemporaries dreamed of things improving. But that didn t
happen. Instead, things got worse, much worse.
Looking eastwards she could see Pauper s Field where Seth and Mary lay side by side. When
she imagined them she saw them comfortable in their graves, very much alive and enjoying
talking to each other. Mary was not locked inside the pale body that she tended as it lay on her
bed, and Seth s throttled face on the body his friends bore home from York was restored to the
youthful face she had loved when he was a young man and she a maid and they took their first kiss.
Her only sadness then was that she was not between them sharing their amusements.
She often sat in her creaky rocking chair looking down at their graves, envying them their
companionship, wishing she could complement it by her presence. Her love for Mary was as
bright as the day the little girl was born. Although Mary was born on the wrong side of the
blanket, she was blood of her blood, bone of her bone, and flesh of her flesh, and she loved her
all the more because of the misfortune of her birth, not in spite of it. Her love for Seth grew
daily even after he was executed. She remembered his life, his work, his strong hands, his care,
his love, and the sacrifices he made to lift others from the shadow of the grave. He had failed and
been hung for it, but he had done his best and she had few

The Cost Of Transportation In The United States
Transportation is the process of which people get from one location to another; however, it
comes at a cost. The price we all pay when we take a method of transportation comes in two
forms. The first form is time and the second is a monetary value. In recent days it seems like the
cost that correlates to transportation is rising. As raw materials like oil and coal become scares
throughout the world the price for those materials increase as the demand increases. With the cost
of raw materials increasing it sends a shock wave down the economic ladder which leads to
transportation cost rising. On the other hand, the time it takes to travel your destination also gets
longer since more people are on the road which ultimately leads to a slower commute time. The
United Nations stated that in 2050, the world population will increase from 7.2 billion to 9.1
billion people (United Nations, 2015).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Perks Of Being A Wallflower And The Catcher In...
In both Steven Chbosky and J.D. Salinger s coming of age novels The Perks of Being a
Wallflower and The Catcher in the Rye both authors successfully explore the idea of entering
adulthood as an outsider. The Perks of Being a Wallflower follows a fifteen year old boy,
Charlie. Charlie has recently lost his best friend Michael to suicide and is struggling to come to
terms with his death. He is in his freshman year of high school and struggles to fit in socially,
until he meets a group of seniors who take him under their wing and introduce him to a world he
could never imagine. Written in the form of a series of letters to an anonymous recipient, Chbosky
allows the audience to have an in depth perception of Charlies mind and his... Show more content

Although the reader is never told who the letters are written to, Charlie starts each letter with
Dear Friend... . He states at the start of the novel that I am writing to you because she said you
listen and understand...Please don t try to figure out who she is because then you might figure
out who I am, and I really don t want you to do that... (1.3) whilst Charlie does not give the reader
a clear explanation on who this anonymous person may be; the audience can make the
assumption that perhaps Charlie is writing these letters to help him understand his feelings.
Charlies raw and honest narration of the problems he encounters, and his dark thoughts
throughout his first year of high school allows the reader to empathise with Charlie. This
behaviour is often typical for high school aged students, as they tend to find it easier to
communicate with each other when it is not face to face. The emotions that Charlie feels are
also common for this age group, allowing the intended audience to relate to Charlie, and engage
with the narrative. Likewise, in The Catcher in the Rye first person perspective is used to allow
the reader to have direct access to the main protagonist: Holden s thoughts. Holden s honest
narration gives the reader a perspective into his world and the way he comprehends it. In Holden s
narration, Salinger uses a flashback of a momentous time of his life, when he spent three days and
nights by himself in New York City.

Essay on Romanticism, Realism and Local Color in The...
Romanticism, Realism and Local Color in The Awakening
Kate Chopin is an author who was born in 1851 and died in 1904. Her father died when she was
young, and her husband died when she was thirty one leaving her with six children. Due to this, she
had little male influence throughout her life. This may possibly be why she had so little inhibition
when writing her novels. She seemed to concentrate on the oppression of women and presented
socially unacceptable ideas at the time of their publication. Although Kate Chopin stirred up great
controversy in her time, today her novels, short stories, and poems are often regarded as great

need for freedom from the ties of life that hold her down and also her need for individuality. One
way she defies society is by leaving her home on Tuesdays, which are designated by Creole
tradition as stay at home and greet guests days. On several Tuesdays, Edna leaves home to walk
about town leaving her guests and husband disappointed. She searches to be an individual and not
conform to the standards of society. As written in the novel, She had all her life long been
accustomed to harbor thoughts and emotions which never voice themselves. They had never taken
the form of struggles. They belonged to her and were her own, and she entertained the conviction
that she had a right to them and that they concerned no one but herself. Edna had once told
Madame Ratignolle that she would never sacrifice herself for her children, or for any one (79).
Another example of Romanticism can be found in the way society treats life at the time. They are
oblivious, especially the women, to the limits of their lifestyle. The society present in The
Awakeningpaints a picture where they only see beautiful, vibrant colors. However, as Edna soon
finds out, paint does not stay beautiful forever. Edna begins to see the layers of paint peeling and
chipping off to reveal the grays and blacks hidden beneath.

Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit And The Pendulum
The unit question asks whether or not the hero of Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum
would realistically be able to escape the descending blade swinging on a pendulum. The question is
a matter of time, is it feasible for the protagonist to escape the pendulum with the allotted amount of
time. Based on standard deviationand testing a pendulum of the same scale as the one mentioned
in the story, the answer is no. The protagonist mentions that he believed 10 12 periods of the
pendulum would result in the blade coming in contact with his torso. Using the formula
developed in class for the period of a pendulum, it would take the 30 foot pendulum described in
the story about 72 seconds to complete 12 periods. Testing the actual 30 foot yielded similar
results within 1 2 seconds of 72 seconds. Therefore, it is fair to say that the hero is working with
72 seconds to free himself. This does not seem like enough time to develop an escape strategy, act
on the strategy, and leave without getting hit bit the pendulum. The method the hero describes
involves thinking about the situation and then employing the help of nearby rats. He also
mentions, Yet one minute, and I felt that the struggle would be over, as if to imply he had 1
minute to spare. Since he was reflecting and then enticing the rats to gnaw through the rope it is
not likely that it took only 12 seconds to escape. 72 seconds does not seem like enough time for
the hero to complete his escape. However, the thickness of the rope and speed of the rats are factors
that could affect the outcome.
Standard deviation is a way of visualizing how spread out points of data are in a set. Using
standard deviation helps to determine how rare or common an occurrence is. For example, data
points falling within the boundaries of one standard deviation typically account for about 68% of
data and those between (+/ )1 standard deviation and (+/ )2 standard deviations make about 27%
combined. This can be better visualized by using a bell graph. Using the mean and standard
deviation, the points where standard deviations occur can be drawn on the graph to better
understand which data is rare and which is common.
Standard deviation was used to help solve the unit

Route 62 Poem
In her poem Route 62, Helen Moffett paints a beautiful and powerful picture of the landscape in
South Africa. However, the title evokes the image of a man made road familiar to many Americans.
Nonetheless, Moffett carefully structures her poem and employs vivid language to clearly illustrate
that humanachievements and life, like the titular road, are ultimately insignificant in comparison to
the durability of the long lasting mountains. Through intricate construction the poem, Moffett s
form and tone reveals the timeless nature of the power of Earth and its elements. Route 62 is a
free verse poem, reflecting how nature is free from any patterns mankind may want to impose on
it. Moreover, the first few lines of the poem establishes a tranquil tone as the mountains are lying
slumbering, evoking a peaceful image (2). As the mountains sleep, little action occurs, allowing
them to match the static image many people would contemporarily associate mountains with.
Furthermore, the heat of the landscape drapes its own spines and ribs (5). The metaphor of a
skeleton reflects how the mountains are merely a shell of what they once were, as described in
their formation. Nevertheless, this is not to say they are invariable nor no longer powerful. In a line
that transitions between the mountains being described in the present with a serene tone, and the
fierce tone that follows, the author says, history has folded these ranges (6). The personification of
a powerful force like

Doing Business in India
We believe the single greatest risk of doing business in India is its bureaucracy. The Indian
bureaucracy is often referred to as babudom. An Indian bureaucrat is often referred to as a babu.
Today, babu may also mean Sir or Mr. The babudom was formed after Indiagained independence
from Britain. It employs many more people than necessary and it is highly unproductive. Each
geographic region of the babudom requires specific government permissions and taxes. Making
progress in the babudom with limited local support is a difficult task, especially for a small U.S.
firm with limited capital.

Companies have to pay employees to deal with the babudom instead of paying them to sell their
products and services. Companies often hire outside people to help them deal with the babudom.
For example, a company might hire an attorney or someone familiar with the law to help expedite
the process of approval for their products.
Instead of telling someone negative information, Indians in the babudom will often communicate a
negative response by endless stalling. This stalling could last for months or even years.
Throughout this stalling, the Indian will come up with excuses for why something has not been
done. Americans must be able to recognize when they are being given false information and know
when to move on. For example, if an is unable to do something for your company, he or she still
might say, I ll try instead of saying no.
Contact the appropriate government departments for information to help you save time and avoid
bureaucratic processes. The India desks at the U.S. State Department and the Commerce
Department will be able to provide you with the latest rules and regulations governing investment,
the export of goods, and the import of goods or services. It would also be useful to contact the
nearest Indian consulate or embassy for the names of bilateral trade organizations in your home
country that can offer useful advice and current information on India s ongoing reforms.

Third Murderer Identity
In his five act drama Macbeth, William Shakespeare develops a world in which the most noble
characters find themselves falling into the temptations of deceit and evil, following the downfall of
the titular character from his position as an honorable thane to his eventual demise as a crazed
king. Inspired by the prophecies of three witches that he encounters, Macbethtakes his fate into his
own hands and murders the rightful king, sending him into a quick spiral into madness and death
for many including himself. Some scholars argue that Macbeth in its current state may be the
abridged edition, mainly basing their theories on the mysterious identity of Banquo s Third
Murderer. Critics pose interesting views concerning both the identification... Show more content on

Shortly before Banquo s murder, Macbeth stops the Attendant and has a brief encounter with him.
In the short conversation, Macbeth utters, Sirrah, a word with you: attend those men / our pleasure?
(3.1.44 45). Macbeth s interaction with the Attendant is minimal throughout the play; however,
during their brief encounter, Macbeth speaks to the Attendant with obvious and notable contempt.
Further, Macbeth treats the Attendant almost as a confidant, expecting him to be loyal without
explicit grounds or reason to be so trusting. Macbeth trusts the Attendant to watch the gate for the
first two murderers, and the Attendant instructed them to his master one day prior (Irving 148). In
regard to the thematic relevance of the Third Murderer, Shakespeare tends to develop strong
patterns and themes throughout his works. For example, the witches present Macbeth and Banquo
with three prophecies each for their futures. This consistent appearance of the number three
throughout a play focused on corruption and wickedness such as Macbeth clearly alludes to a
satanic perversion of the Trinity. In keeping with this demonic twist, logic implies that adding a
third and final murderer would be the perfect fit to show the dark, evil spiritual aspects of Macbeth
(Saenger 134). Irving s hypothesis that the Attendant is the Third Murderer seems to check out
while Saenger s article provides context that explains why the Third Murderer is a necessary
addition in the first

The Memory Palace Of Matteo Ricci Analysis
Matteo Ricci was a born in Italy in 1552. He became a Jesuit and went a mission to China in
1583. He lived out the rest of his twenty seven years in China, bringing in Western culture and
technology, while learning about what China had to offer. In his novel, The Memory Palace of
Matteo Ricci, Jonathan Spence retells Ricci s life story, while also adding information about the
world at the time. Spence tells Ricci s story in an interesting way, by assigning Chinese
characters and images that he believes Ricci would have used in his memory palace, a fictional
tool to remember what that took place during his life. The memory palace works by assigning
memories to a character or image, so when you think of the image, you can remember the
memories associated with it. Spence then breaks up the chapters separately by each image or
character and talks about the history and story from Ricci s life associated with the image or
character. This essay will primarily focus on chapter four of the novel, though a summary of the
themes of chapter six is included as well. In chapter four Spence largely discusses the three main
religions of the Western world, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, and then draws parallels with the
three largest religions in Chinaat the time, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism. However, these
examples are not the only instances where a trio of three religions and belief systems are present.

understand. This ignorance is vocalized by the Captain, who, when confronting Jun Do about

  • 2. My Love Of Dance It seems like from the moment I could walk, I have had a love for dancing. When I was little, every chance I got, I would perform in front of my family. Whether I was singing, dancing, dressing up, or pretending to be a model on the runway, I wanted all the attention on me. When my mom put me into dance classes, I instantly fell in love with it, because the whole time, I got to do what I loved the most: perform. As the years went on, dancebecame something I was truly passionate about, and the lessons I learned from it began to change me. Those lessons and the ones I am still learning from dance have had a huge impact on me, making me into the person I am today. When I was little dance was a way to have fun and be a star, and I could show the big outgoing personality I had, but I became more reserved and shy as I grew up. Throughout intermediate school and junior high, I remained someone who was an introvert and strayed away from most social encounters. During this time, dance was something that allowed me to express what I was feeling, but without words. The few friends I had at the time had been in my life since kindergarten. Life was very comfortable and easy for me since I had lived in the same place forever. I didn t want anything to change, and the idea of anything changing scared me. What I didn t know was that a change would be exactly what I needed. At the start of high school, my family moved to a new town. This meant making a whole new group of friends. But how? ... • 3. Uncertainty Reduction Theory And Uncertainty Reduction Theory Being away from home for the first time and having to start over and make all new friends can be both exciting and intimidating at the same time. When I first moved into my freshmen dorm at UNCW three years ago, I was certainly feeling this rush of emotions. I was excited to meet new people, but also scared I wouldn t make any friends who I connected as well with as my high school friends. I was especially nervous about having to live with a roommate who I hardly knew. I had always heard horror stories from my older friends and family members about having a crazy roommate who they just couldn t get along with. Fortunately, my roommmate Kelly and I became great friends and were not only able to survive freshmen year of college, but continued to live together all four years of college. This transformation in our relationship from virtual strangers, to the best of friends can be explained by Charles Berger s Uncertainty Reduction Theory. Uncertainty Reduction Theory is the assumption that when strangers meet, their primary concern is one of uncertainty reduction or increasing the predictability about the behavior of both themselves and others in the interaction. We are motivated to search for this information for one of more of three reasons anticiptation of future interaction, incentive value, and deviance. With Kelly my motives were mostly based on anticipation of future interaction. Not only would I see her again, but I would have to interact with on a daily basis on a ... The Development of New Ethnic Identities such as Black British or British/Asian When referring to British Asians, the majority of us often fall into the trap of understanding the Asians referred to are linked to the Indian Subcontinent, i.e. India, Pakistan etc. What we tend to forget is that Asians are associated with a number of different countries and with Asia being the largest continent in the world, what exactly is meant by the term British Asians? Generally, here in Britain, they are perceived to be the brown kind and are often associated with the Indian subcontinent. This may seem like a genuine error, but colloquially speaking we have come to accept this fact and refer to it commonly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those that the criticising Asians believe have been prompted by western society and essentially the white man . And whichever Asian that may follow in the footsteps of such traditions and ideologies is known as a coconut , brown on the outside, white on the inside. It appears that British Asians have adopted the culture of the host country and have assimilated into this society quite clearly. This can be argued to be a intentional by some members of the Asian community and others may well suggest it is an unintended consequence of living and growing up in Britain. Such a term has gradually eroded and faded from the minds of the people that used it commonly. It seems that nowadays a new type of culture has emerged and that British Asians a have now integrated into British Society and are now more or less at home and come to terms with who they are and what they believe. But to what extent is this true? Are Asians still the reserved people they once were or are they breaking free from the confines that they themselves had created and developed keeping morale s preserved just as they have been on the other side of the world? But how far can one go in actually accepting the fact that the majority of Asians have adopted and amalgamated into the western society to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Differences Between The Giver Book And Movie This essay is about comparing the Giver book and movie. The Giver is a story about a boy named Jonas who was chosen to be the community s next Receiver of Memory. He lived in a community where everything was chosen for the citizens, and everything was perfect. During Jonas training, he realized that the community was missing something and that there was more in the world. Jonas wanted the everybody to know that. The Giver book was then made into a movie. Though the two were based on the same story, there are three important differences that could ve made them two separate stories. The three main differences between the book and the movie are Asher and Fiona s Assignments, the similarity all Receivers had and the Chief Elder s role. One... But there were a few exceptions: Jonas himself, and a female Five who he had noticed had the different, lighter eyes, (pg. 20 Lois Lowry). Only those with light eyes would become the next Receiver of Memory, which is why it was such an important detail. In the Giver movie, it was changed into a birthmark. That birthmark was shaped like a triangle and in the movie, all Receivers of Memory had them. The third main difference between The Giver book and the movie was the Chief Elder s role. In the Giver book, the Chief Elder was not much of an important character, The initial speech at the Ceremony of Twelve was made by the Chief Elder, the leader of the community who was elected every ten years, (pg. 51 Lois Lowry). However, the Chief Elder played an important role in the Giver movie. In the book, the Chief spoke in a few chapters during Ceremonies and that was all. The Giver movie s Chief Elder always watched Jonas closely. She started becoming suspicious of Jonas, and so she would warn Jonas mother and The Giver. She then found out about Jonas plan to escape. When she did, she ordered Asher to lose him (The Giver movie). That meant she wanted Asher to kill Jonas. This essay was about the three main differences between the Giver book and the Giver movie. • 7. The Political Culture Of Politics The term politics itself has changed over many years. To ask if the evolution of political culture changes how people participate in politics is simple. The answer is yes. To begin with, let s define political culture; Authors define the term political culture as the particular distribution of patterns of orientation towards political objects among the members of a nation (Almond and Verba 1963: 13 cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014 p.285). Now let s define culture; the term culture covers a broad set of phenomena. It includes traditions, habits, and patterns of behaviour shaped by a society s prevailing beliefs, norms and values (Nolan and Lenski, 1999 cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014 p.285). Taking this into account, examples of culture could be how to play hopscotch in a playground or following the rules to a game of tennis or badminton. To address the question, this essay will firstly assess how any capable individual is able to participate in politics and secondly if the growth of political culture has increased or decreased participation. A question that is frequently asked is how can one be involved in politics? There are many options. One option can be by joining a political party which interests them and that has a good manifesto with policies that they would like to see take place and therefore taking part in elections and voting. A second option can be by being part of a pressure group for example, one that represents those against smoking called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the beginning, the music told a story of a biblical event. The current day music tells a story about life and how Jesus Christ can fix the problem because he is all powerful. Oratorio is one example of older religion music. The current type of religion music is called Contemporary Christian music. There is a lot of different types between these two. Oratorio and Contemporary music differs a lot; however, they both speak about the perfect Jesus Christ, but that is about all they have in commons. Oratorio music was very sacred music in its time. It was very sacred; however, it was not played during church. They were played more for concerts. Oratorio had three different parts that was in every piece. Those three parts would consist of a choir, soloist, and orchestra. Every piece comes from a biblical story. The most famous composer from the Baroque ere, the era that oratorio was played, was George Frideric Handel. A few of his most famous pieces came from the subjects, Israel in Egypt, Jephtha, Judas, Saul, and Messiah (Baily 169). Contemporary Christian music is the complete opposite of Oratorio music. In some shape or form, water has continued to be an important resource since the formation of Earth and continues to be today as well. Water being a finite abundant substance, it covers up approximately 70 percent of the Earth s surface. It is without a doubt an essential resource needed to sustain life on Earth. California is a geographically dry area and water shortage has been a serious issue affecting the state since 2012. California has the highest water consumption compared to all the other states and this partly due to the reason that roughly eighty percent of the state s water is used towards agriculture; California being the largest agricultural export distributor in the country (Green). Since of 2012, California has been on a severe four year drought and has had immediate plans and regulations in order to reduce the impact it has. According to California Water Science Center, 2014 was the third driest year on record and following that, 2015 [was] the warmest year on record. The recent record breaking climate has contributed to the drought of California and as a result has had detrimental impacts to the environment. Severe climate during a shortage of water can lead to drastic problems because it can lead to an increase of evapotranspiration and increase of precipitation falling as rain rather than snow. Having precipitation falling more often as rain rather than snow during warm weather can lead to early snowmelt which can unbalance the water supply demands (Causes of Drought). During a drought, occasionally humans are impacted, but more importantly the environment experiences the impacts harshly. Wildlife habitat lost, inadequate food and water ... The Canterbury Tales is a selection of stories written in Middle English. Among them is a knight, a monk, a prioress, two nun s, the friar, the squire, the yeoman, the merchant, a clerk, a sergeant of the law, a wealthy landowner, a doctor, the wife of Bath, a supplier, the reeve, a somonour, a pardoner, Harry Bailey (the host), Chaucer himself, a haberdasher, a carpenter, a weaver, a tapestry maker, a dyere, a cook, a shipman, a poor parson, a plowman, and a miller. The solution says Nicholas, is to wait overnight for it in a tub suspended from the barn rafters, and to cut the tub from the roof of the barn when the water has risen, which carpenter does. While Nicholas and Alison lie together, Absolon appears and asks Alison for a kiss. She sticks her bottom out the window, and he kisses it with relish, pausing only when he feels bristly hair and considers that no woman has a beard. He realizes the prank and, enraged, disappears to get a red hot poker. Returning, he asks for another kiss. This time Nicholas, who had risen from the bed to urinate, sticks his bottom out of the window and farts loudly; Absolon brands him in the rear. He cries for water, awakening the carpenter, who thinks that the second flood is come at last. He panics and cuts himself down, breaking his arm; the rest of the town awakens to find him lying screaming in the tub on the floor of the barn. The villagers came to see the commotion and they saw Alisoun was in the bed and Nicholas standing naked. After that, the Carpenter was considered a madman and a cuckold by the whole town. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites (Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). An example of this is when she states, In the street below a peddler was crying his wares. However, most clinical research associates do not hold medical degree of any type. This makes it rather to master the skills I need when I see my patients. Often, we are not allowed to open any lab kits (because they are in sequential order) which makes nurses prone to more mistakes. When I first came to Mount Carmel, I notice we had simulators. So, I began to think how these simulators could reduce the clinical errors in research. My hypothesis (state of affairs) could be: Clinical research nurses who practice on simulators are more likely to have fewer medical errors then those who do not. My Experimental hypothesis: Clinical research nurses are 25% more likely to make mistakes when performing clinical skills (such as lab draws and administering study medication) then those nurses who practice on patient simulators. My experiment: Compare the performance of nurses who use patient simulators to practice specific study related skills versus those who do not. • 33. Naturalistic Dualism Gertler In her essay Brie Gertler defends the idea of naturalistic dualism. Naturalistic dualism means the view that mental states are non physical. Gertler begins with an argument made by Descartes in his Mediations. She expands and defends this argument. She then begins by describing a version of physicalism called the identity thesis, which every type of mental state is identical to some type of physical state. Her example was relating pain to c fibers. If a theory says that pain is identical to C fiber stimulation, then pain is impossible without C fiber stimulation. Therefore, if mental states such as pain can possibly occur even if one has no physical state, then the identity thesis is false. Gertler defends dualismby arguing that it is possible ... • 36. The Theme Of Flood Themes In The Gilgamesh Epic [Title] The concept of ravaging waters destroying all of earth except one sole man and woman is a constant theme across cultures. Almost all ethnic groups possess a story of a family surviving a flood to repopulate the rest of the world. This idea is present in the Bible, in the Gilgamesh epic, to even the Chinese. I will argue that mythological journeys across culture demonstrate a reoccurring flood theme. The first flood myth recorded was in the Gilgamesh epic. Gilgamesh was a demigod who sought after immortality after his best friend Enkidu dies. During this quest he aims to find Utnapishtim, the one man that survived the great flood of the gods. According to Moran, the flood was not a part of the original Gilgamesh epic (1995). The ancient Mediterranean flood story states that Utnapishtim was chosen by the gods because mankind was intolerable. The deity Ea warns Utnapishtim to build and ark and save the human race. Following the completion of the ark, it begins to rain for 6 days and 6 nights. Concluding the rain, Utnapishtim s boat is trapped on a mountain top for 7 additional days. At the end of his ordeal, Utnapishtim offers a sacrifice to the gods, but Enlil is enraged that he escaped their efforts. Ea comes to Utnapishtim rescue and convinces the gods that he escaped without any assistance. As a reward for his survival, the gods grant Utnapishtim immortality. The beginnings of the new service have started less than a decade ago but has already been a huge factor of how people listen to their music. Instead of buying physical, hard copies of an artist s album, people either buy the song digitally or now use a specific software that will allow them to stream and listen to any song they want for free. The use of applications on smartphones also aid in this world wide domination of internet radio. Normally, the trial versions of this software will include advertisements by companies who pay the streaming music companies. • 38. Same Sex Marriage And Civil Rights For Same-Sex Marriage Same sex Marriage is a question that comes across my path on a consistent basis. The agency where I work advocates this practice, which requires yearly training videos to ensure everyone understands the rules of the practice. Although our society bends the laws to support this practice, I will argue that government laws do not hold true to God s law or even the law of nature. Additionally, I will argue that marriage, by natural law, is designed for procreating purposes. When someone thinks of marriage, it is two people, man, and woman, that have fallen in love, went through the ceremony, have children, and the circle of life begins. Marriage has a specific orientation to having children. The first of Augustine s three goods of marriage children would be inapplicable to covenant partnerships: the second and third goods faithfulness and the bond of permanence would very much apply. But marriage has been re ordered by the resurrection of Christ, shares Thatcher. In contrast, the argument for same sex marriage is that it is just like civil rights of that African Americans. • 47. Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit And The Pendulum The unit question asks whether or not the hero of Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum would realistically be able to escape the descending blade swinging on a pendulum. The question is a matter of time, is it feasible for the protagonist to escape the pendulum with the allotted amount of time. Based on standard deviationand testing a pendulum of the same scale as the one mentioned in the story, the answer is no. The protagonist mentions that he believed 10 12 periods of the pendulum would result in the blade coming in contact with his torso. Using the formula developed in class for the period of a pendulum, it would take the 30 foot pendulum described in the story about 72 seconds to complete 12 periods. Testing the actual 30 foot yielded similar results within 1 2 seconds of 72 seconds. Therefore, it is fair to say that the hero is working with 72 seconds to free himself. This does not seem like enough time to develop an escape strategy, act on the strategy, and leave without getting hit bit the pendulum. The method the hero describes involves thinking about the situation and then employing the help of nearby rats. He also mentions, Yet one minute, and I felt that the struggle would be over, as if to imply he had 1 minute to spare. Since he was reflecting and then enticing the rats to gnaw through the rope it is not likely that it took only 12 seconds to escape. 72 seconds does not seem like enough time for the hero to complete his escape. However, the thickness of the rope and speed of the rats are factors that could affect the outcome. Standard deviation is a way of visualizing how spread out points of data are in a set. Using standard deviation helps to determine how rare or common an occurrence is. For example, data points falling within the boundaries of one standard deviation typically account for about 68% of data and those between (+/ )1 standard deviation and (+/ )2 standard deviations make about 27% combined. However, the title evokes the image of a man made road familiar to many Americans. Nonetheless, Moffett carefully structures her poem and employs vivid language to clearly illustrate that humanachievements and life, like the titular road, are ultimately insignificant in comparison to the durability of the long lasting mountains. Through intricate construction the poem, Moffett s form and tone reveals the timeless nature of the power of Earth and its elements. Route 62 is a free verse poem, reflecting how nature is free from any patterns mankind may want to impose on it. Moreover, the first few lines of the poem establishes a tranquil tone as the mountains are lying slumbering, evoking a peaceful image (2). As the mountains sleep, little action occurs, allowing them to match the static image many people would contemporarily associate mountains with. Furthermore, the heat of the landscape drapes its own spines and ribs (5). The metaphor of a skeleton reflects how the mountains are merely a shell of what they once were, as described in their formation. Nevertheless, this is not to say they are invariable nor no longer powerful. In a line that transitions between the mountains being described in the present with a serene tone, and the fierce tone that follows, the author says, history has folded these ranges (6). Further, Macbeth treats the Attendant almost as a confidant, expecting him to be loyal without explicit grounds or reason to be so trusting. Macbeth trusts the Attendant to watch the gate for the first two murderers, and the Attendant instructed them to his master one day prior (Irving 148). In regard to the thematic relevance of the Third Murderer, Shakespeare tends to develop strong patterns and themes throughout his works. For example, the witches present Macbeth and Banquo with three prophecies each for their futures. This consistent appearance of the number three throughout a play focused on corruption and wickedness such as Macbeth clearly alludes to a satanic perversion of the Trinity. In keeping with this demonic twist, logic implies that adding a third and final murderer would be the perfect fit to show the dark, evil spiritual aspects of Macbeth (Saenger 134). The balanced equation for the synthesis reaction that occurred in experiment 1 is: 2Mg + O2 в†’ 2MgO. Experiment 2 1.A hydrate is a chemical compound that has water molecules bound loosely to it by electrostatic forces. When the hydrated compound is heated, the water molecules are released as water vapor. The formula of the copper carbonate hydrate, Cu2CO3(OH)2*H2O, tells us that one water molecule is bound to each copper carbonate hydroxide molecule.
From the ratio of the mass of the black product to the initial 5g placed in the flask, could the remaining black compound be the anhydrous copper carbonate hydroxide molecule Cu2CO3(OH)2? The molecular weight of Cu2CO3(OH)2 is 221.116 g/mol, while that of water is 18.015 g/mol. Show your calculations. • 54. The Memory Palace Of Matteo Ricci Analysis Matteo Ricci was a born in Italy in 1552. He became a Jesuit and went a mission to China in 1583. He lived out the rest of his twenty seven years in China, bringing in Western culture and technology, while learning about what China had to offer. In his novel, The Memory Palace of Matteo Ricci, Jonathan Spence retells Ricci s life story, while also adding information about the world at the time. Spence tells Ricci s story in an interesting way, by assigning Chinese characters and images that he believes Ricci would have used in his memory palace, a fictional tool to remember what that took place during his life. The memory palace works by assigning memories to a character or image, so when you think of the image, you can remember the memories associated with it. Spence then breaks up the chapters separately by each image or character and talks about the history and story from Ricci s life associated with the image or character. This essay will primarily focus on chapter four of the novel, though a summary of the themes of chapter six is included as well. In chapter four Spence largely discusses the three main religions of the Western world, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, and then draws parallels with the three largest religions in Chinaat the time, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism. However, these examples are not the only instances where a trio of three religions and belief systems are present. At the end of the Warring States period in China, around 350 BCE, China was ... • 55. Theme Of The Orphan Master s Son What if everything you knew was a fabrication of reality and the only escape for you or your loved ones was sacrifice? This is the basis for The Orphan Master s Son, a book by Adam Johnson that details the lives and lies of North Korea. Focusing on a misidentified orphan by the name of Pak Jun Do, The Orphan Master s Son chronicles the life of Pak Jun Do, as he maneuvers the strict rules of the North Korean government in order to live another day. Throughout the novel, Jun Do endures a tough life under a merciless tyrant and a suffering father, remains loyal to his oppressors despite their torment, learns to accept his position in society no matter where he is taken, and inevitably exposed to the truth of his reality. These four themes... Both the workmen in the poem and Jun Do are victims of ignorance, as they suffer for a purpose they do not quite understand. This ignorance is vocalized by the Captain, who, when confronting Jun Do about coming up with a story for the Dear Leader, claims that ... no one ever taught [Jun Do] about family and sacrifice and doing whatever it takes to protect your own (83). By not truly understanding why his father acts in the cruel way he does, he is not able to learn what it is truly like to have a loving family. This is the same for the young workmen, who, by fighting in ignorance, will never be able to understand the true purpose of their troubles and will never learn of the true outcome of war orchestrated by the grinning kings and the living kaiser and czar (124). Regardless of their ambiguity and misdirection, like the young workmen, Jun Do continues to show loyalty to his tyrants and oppressors. Loyalty Throughout the beginning of the novel, Jun Do shows unwavering loyalty to his despots, despite their cruel treatment of him and his awful living conditions. This draws parallels to the poem Rye Whiskey by an anonymous author which details the narrator s loyalty and unwavering addiction to rye whiskey, even though it has only lead him to his downfall (273).
