How Energy Can Be Conserved, The Fiscal Value Of...
Introduction In the world that we live in today, energy is in high demand. Businesses and family
budgets require energy efficiency in order to get their money s worth. Technology is being constantly
developed to help make our energy sources more efficient. More efficient lighting, like LED light
bulbs are being produced to conserve energy, along with more efficient vehicles. Some of these
technologies are more readily implemented, and affordable than others, but efforts are still being made
to make the world a more energy efficient place. In addition to energy efficiency saving money for
businesses and households, it also helps reduce the emission of greenhouse gases that contribute to
global climate change.

Sources of greenhouse gases include: 1) Domestic gas used in homes for heating water, the stove, and
the house in general. This tends to be the most noteworthy source of emissions by individuals.³ 2)
Electricity used for running refrigerators, dryers, and televisions, and charging devices uses
approximately 4,000 units of electricity per annually.³ 3) Traveling by air is also a part of the average
person s carbon footprint; although the tendency tends to be for a person to either rarely fly, or fly
often (as in about twenty flights yearly).³ 4) Electronics like phones, iPods, and laptops use up energy,
and have to be charged often.³ 5) The food that we eat is also a component of our carbon footprint.
The fertilizers used to grow, and produce the food that we buy is the main source of greenhouse gases
in the food process; although packaging, and transporting food is also a small part of it.³ 6) The
production of the clothes that we wear has an impact. Manmade materials give off less emissions
opposed to products like cotton and wool.³ 7) Paper uses up a lot of energy when it is produced.
Recycling helps reduce the amount of energy expended in paper production.³ 8) Water and sewage
takes up energy because of the power it takes to pump water to houses and buildings, and treating
water also produces

Ordeal or Reconstruction
1. What were the four main questions facing peacemakers in 1865? a. The aftermath of the war was
crucial due to the fact that the south and north were totally separated during the civil war, but more
importantly was that all the fighting had ben done in the south, which meant that the majority of the
damage was done in the southern towns. This caused the towns and fields to be ruined, and many
properties worthless. So many peacemakers wanted to assure the southerners possessions. b. Secondly
the peacemakers were faced with was giving freedom to the black slaves, which meant that would be
the end of slavery all together. c. Since after the war the country need much reconstruction within the

e. Johnson s Reconstruction Proclamation: i. His stance on reconstruction was similar to Lincoln s, in
that he was not as harsh on the South as the Radical Republicans in Congress wanted. In May 1865,
Johnson issued his Amnesty Proclamation, which required an oath of loyalty from former
confederates, who would then be pardoned and have their property restored (except slaves) that had be
confiscated by Federal officials during the war. The only people not included in this proclamation
were high ranking military and civilian Confederate officials and those who resigned their positions in
the Federal government to serve the in the Confederacy. Johnson issued a second proclamation
outlining his plan for how the states should go about getting themselves back into the Union. Under
this plan, the President would appoint a governor to each state under reconstruction. 5. What were the
effects of the Black Codes? a. The purpose of the black codes was to keep black people from voting.
The result was the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which prohibited using
race as a reason to prevent people from voting. The emancipation of black slaves in post Civil War
America did not run smoothly. Though the slaves had been freed in name, many did not feel secure
about giving black people rights. The black codes prevented black Americans from voting and

Summary Of The Poem White Lies
The poem White Lies by Natasha Trethewey, gives the reader a glimpse of Trethewey s troublesome
upbringing in a biracial family during a time when biracial marriage was illegal in the deep South.
Trethewey s poems tend to have a deeper meaning and several secreted messages. The poem, White
Lies, is a prime example of Trethewey s phenomenal work and conveys an important, and quite
dejected, message. Trethewey clearly defines her attitude as embarrassed and ashamed of her
upbringing in a biracial family.
Trethewey begins in lines 1 through 6 by telling the readers about the lies she told as a child. She
explains to the readers that these lies were just white lies and nothing more than that. In lines 1
through 6, Trethewey says, The lies I could tell, /when I was growing up /light bright, near white /high
yellow, red boned /in a black place, /were just white lies. The literal definition of a white lie is, a
harmless or trivial lie, especially one told to avoid hurting someone s feelings. Though, Trethewey
includes a double meaning within her title, White Lies. The author is clearly referring to herself by
using color imagery when she says, The lies I could tell, /when I was growing up /light bright, near
white /high yellow, red boned /in a black place, /were just white lies. These white lies are about
Trethewey hiding the fact that she comes from a biracial home in the deep South because of how
embarrassed and ashamed she is of it.
Furthermore, Trethewey further conveys her message of embarrassment and ashamedness of her black
culture and biracial family in lines 7 through 18. Trethewey speaks of how she would tell white lies
about where she lives in lines 7 through 11. The author states, I could easily tell the white folks /that
we lived uptown, /not in that shanty fied shotgun section /along the tracks. Trethewey is using
alliteration when she says, not in that shanty fied shot gun section. Likewise, Trethewey is also
embarrassed of her clothing that is homemade by her loving mother. Trethewey says, I could act /like
my homemade dresses /came straight out of the window /of Maison Blanche. Trethewey states in lines
14 through 18, I could even /keep quiet, quiet as I kept, /like the time a

The And New England Colonies
Everyone has an external force that motivates them in some way that allows them to be able to go
about their everyday lives and fulfill their ambitions. Within the years of 1580 and 1763 this force
took the form of God. Around this same time was when the Chesapeake and New England colonies
were in the process of being founded. As a result, these two settlements did nothing without
referencing their actions to God. Due to this heavy focus on God as the reason behind every aspect of
their lives, chaos began to sprout soon after the settlers began settling and started living their new lives
in the colonies. Since the colonist believed that God dictated their entire lives; they never felt that they
were in the wrong. Not once did the colonists stop to think that they had no right to steal the natives
land. If God had not smitten them, then they thought that God approved of what they were doing. In
this case, the colonists were in the process of acquiring land that the earth bringeth foorth all things in
aboundance, as in the first creation, without toile or labour... the most plentifull, sweete, fruitfull, and
wholesome [soil] of all the world . The new land that the colonists wanted to take appeared similar to
the Garden of Eden. Since they successfully made their voyage to the new land, it looked as if God
allowed them to enter a land similar to one of his own. If God gave the colonists access to the land,
then wouldn t that mean that the colonists were entitled to the land

Southern Comfort Research Paper
Southern Comfort is often thought of as a whisky, however it is actually a liqueur made from a neutral
flavoured spirit with whisky, fruit and spice flavourings. Martin Wilkes Heron, an Irish immigrant
living in the USA, worked as a barman in McCauley s Saloon in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
His customers often asked for a drink that was a little smoother than bourbon and straight whisky, so
Heron mixed fruit and spices with bourbon and created what he called Cuffs and Buttons . A year later
the drink was a success however the name was too hard to say so he renamed it Southern Comfort. By
1889 Heron had refined the recipe and recognised the potential his drink had, so he moved to
Memphis, Tennessee, patented his creation and began

The Between The Federal Government And The United States
The relationship between the federal government and the states has continually changed over the
years. Each one has their set of duties and powers, and both are ruled by the U.S. Constitution. The
states rights are more than well protected in the current constitution and the political practice. The Bill
of Rights lays out what our rights are, along with fourteenth, fifteenth, nineteenth, and twenty six
amendments. The amendments and constitution continue to protect our rights as Americans even
hundreds of years after being established. States have the ability to make restrictions The Articles of

the task at hand was to revise the Articles of Confederation. All the delegates agreed to throw out the

believed that the states should, others thought the people should have the authority. The Articles of

The Chinese spend $22 billion a year for buying homes all over the U.S., but California is really their

Local California realtors would do just anything to catch their slice of the Chinese pie. Their
marketing strategy includes property videos and websites in Chinese at least. One San Francisco area
real estate agency takes the Chinese buyers around and to open houses by a Mercedes, and then to an
air flight to show them the beauty of the Bay shores by a plane with the number 88 on it the lucky

A Chinese big real estate investment firm becomes one of the most aggressive property buyers in
California. Their acquisitions prove that Chinese investors are at the top of the list of foreign investors
in the commercial properties in the U.S.
U.S. properties are the most attractive to the fast growing Chinese firms under the condition that

U.S. commercial properties last year, approximately 1% of all American commercial property sales
and more than investors from any foreign country except Canada and Norway.

Analysis Of The Genius Of Alexander The Great
Throughout history, leaders have been recognized for how prosperous or unsuccessful they have been
in their efforts. People, particularly, have come to understand that Alexander was none the less a
powerful and diligent man. He follows all aspect of what it means to be strong willed. Alexander was
a man of courage and influence who strived to complete all that he put his mind to. Ian Worthington
writes. In 334 he invaded Persia, and within a decade he had defeated the Persians, subdued Egypt,
and pushed on to Iran, Afghanistan, and even India (64). When one sees a man of abundant success it
is hard to not give that person credit; however, should his steps to success be looked over, or taken
into detailed consideration. Does the end justify the means or vice versa? The issue with this idea is
the fact that Alexander was in fact great. You cannot overlook the amount of success Alexander had
gained over the years. Per contra to the amount of triumph that radiates from Alexander, one may
argue that respectable morals are without a doubt absent during his lifetime which strips him of this
undeserving name. Is it right to get somewhere the easy way or should a great leader make all
decisions in favor of health and well being within himself and his people? Throughout the articles The
Genius of Alexander the Great by N. G. L. Hammond and How Great was Alexander? by Ian
Worthington, the reader receives a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be great.

Paradise Lost By John Milton Essay
Eve in Paradise Lost
In the visions of Western world and civilization, the descend of mankind from the Garden of Eden
serves as the prominent, underlying story of the formulation of existence. In 1667, in the seventeenth
century, author John Milton recasts the creation story in an epic form of poetry consisting of ten books
with over ten thousand lines of verse, in order to conspicuously portray the characters and their actions
that lead to the Fall of Mankind. In both Paradise Lost and the Bible, the blame for the banishment of
mankind from the Garden of Eden is placed on Eve for falling into the seducing of Satan. Throughout
his epic work, Milton conveys Eve s advancement from an autonomous woman to a more reliant
woman to portray that women are not essentially conceived as acquiescent beings. Eve is compelled
into assent due to the patriarchal environment she is surrounded by, therefore attributing it and
allowing her to develop into a women. Paradise Lost conceives Eve as more than solely the mother of
humankind and the wife of Adam. Milton s emendation of Eve in a biblical sense alters the character
from fixed as portrayed in the Bible to a more dynamic person in Paradise Lost. In doing so, Milton
portrays to the reader a different and originally a more favorable perspective of Eve and her character.
Conveyed through the Book of Genesis, in the Old Testament of the Bible, Eve is purely Adam s wife
who eats from the tree that God appointed as forbidden. She

Cultural Stereotypes In Australia
When conducting my research into how cultural stereotypes can affect intercultural communication
between India and Australia, I received interesting feedback. I discovered my interviewees have
experienced cultural stereotypes and have found stereotyping made intercultural communication quite
difficult.
Question 3 was one of the most important questions of my interview, as it allowed the interviewees to
express some of the cultural stereotypes and misunderstanding they have experienced. Regarding this
question, my first interviewee stated she does not experience stereotyping regarding her culture too
often. However, when she does experience this, on visiting other countries (especially Western
countries), she is often asked why she does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to this, she also experiences many cultural stereotypes and misunderstandings. As she lives in the
USA, being a western country, she experiences a lot more cultural stereotypes and misunderstandings
relating to her Indian culture than my first interviewee living in India does. These cultural stereotypes
can especially make intercultural communication between her and someone from Australia
particularly difficult as some Australians, like people my second interviewee communicates with from
the USA, are quite racist and often feel uncomfortable around someone who is Islamic. These cultural
stereotypes affect intercultural communication between Australia and India as it causes
misunderstandings between the two cultures and often causes harsh feelings between cultures.
However, my second interviewee stated she finds it quite easy to communicate with people from
different cultures on social media, however, she does see cultural stereotypes on Facebook and twitter.
Moreover, many people find it particularly easy to communicate with anyone on social media rather
than face to face. When communicating with someone from another culture on social media, one often
does not take their culture into perspective but rather communicates with them as they would to
someone of their immediate culture. Evidently, this is because one does not see the person they are
speaking to online and rather creates their own image of the person they are communicating with.
However, as my Indian interviewees stated, they see a lot of cultural stereotypes on Facebook and
twitter. Additionally, similar to cyberbullies, people find it easy to make stereotypical or rude
comments about other cultures online, rather than to a person in the real world. This could be due to
their online profile being anonymous, and having more confidence to speak their opinions online

It is interesting to note that while the initial case study of DanTech was focused on its role as a

Over the course of our countries history, the delivery of our health care system has tried to meet the

External Environment Of The Brewing Industry
Introduction
This report will examine the external environment of the brewing industry using a PESTEL analysis
and the internal capabilities of ABInBev using a value chain analysis in order to determine how the
firm appears to compete. Following this, strategies for improving the competitive position of the
company will be outlined.
ABInBev is a multinational beverage and brewing company based in Belgium. It is the largest brewer
in the world with a 20.8% market share (Statista, 2016) and is also one of the world s top five
consumer goods companies.
Figure 1: Market share by volume (Statista, 2016)
The brewing industry is interesting to examine due to its relatively unique structure. Up until
November 2015, the market was dominated by four main players, known informally as the Big Four .
AB InBev was the largest, followed by SABMiller, Heineken and Carlsberg. In November 2015,
however, ABInBev and SABMiller agreed a formal $107 billion takeover deal, combining the brewers
into a company which industry experts claim would control around half of the industry s profits
(Mickle, 2015). As a result of the sheer size and complexity of the merger, it is anticipated that the
deal will not be finalised until the second half of 2016 as ABInBev must negotiate with anti trust
regulators around the world with respect to their potential monopolistic position. As the deal is yet to
be completed, this report will analyse ABInBev independent of SABMiller.

government in its repression of any opposition. China has been heavily criticized for shipping
armament to Zimbabwe that would ultimately distributed to the military and the militia that would
help keep the opposition down during the 2008 elections. Although China adopts its non interference
stance, such types of trades are ultimately affecting the country. The delivery of those arms coincided
with a time of extreme hostilities in the country and many pointed fingers at the Chinese government
for blatant human rights violations (Spiegel and Le Billon 324, 330).
South Africa, unlike Zimbabwe, has a more mature and solid political system. Therefore, China has
been more prudent in its relation with that country (Taylor 22). In the past, South African leaders were
highly critical of the Chinese style communism and Maoism which was spreading in South Africa
calling for a total rejection of the country. However, China still got involved in the conflicts in Pretoria
in 1973 as well as in the struggle against apartheid in order to build their relationship with South
Africa (Taylor 135 139). While China was pushing for democratization in South Africa, it was

Morality in The Heart of Darkness
I trust I shall be forgiven the discovery that all moral philosophy hitherto was boring and belonged
among the soporifics (Nietzsche 561). Maybe so, but the issue of moral philosophy has been discussed
though out time and provides a significant element in Conrad s story Heart of Darkness. In general,
the timeless discussion traces back to the first philosophical writings of Plato and transcends from
general religious grounds to general applications and codes of behavior espoused by Kant and Mills.

His argument is basically this: if God is omnibenelovent, omniscient and omnipotent then either evil
does not exist, or, if it does, it is not really evil. Milton lays the groundwork definitions, aligning the
parties in his illustrative argument early. If then his providence / Out of our evil to bring forth good,
Our labor must be to pervert that end, / and out of good still to find means of evil (Milton I: 162 165).
The word his refers to God and relates the word good with him, and relates Satan to the word evil .
The justifications for these labels are more implied than anything else, based in the relationship of the
Christian God, and thus the Bible and the actions and motivations displayed by Satan. He becomes
tied to ... deep malice to conceal, couched with revenge (Milton IV: 123) and ... ire envy and despair
(Milton IV: 115). Thus, good is implicitly the opposite of that: kindness with forgiveness, pleasure and
joy. Milton s argument follows a path of self discovery, illustrates a sympathetic character and
describes his internal conflict and resulting horror of his situation. Mainly that he cannot ask for
forgiveness and is thus locked into downward spiral between the reality of the situation, the
expectations of his cohorts, and his own personal motivations. In the end, his actions

My Dreams
I grew up in a poor neighbourhood. The town my parents decided to raise my brothers and I wasn t a
place where you had the means to pursue your dreams. My parents were young and naive thinking that
they could raise a family at such a young age. Although we had a place to sleep and food to eat, we
were barely getting by. Coming home every day from selling snacks in front of the local school, my
brothers and I were greeted with my mother s smile but we could all tell the twinge of sadness hiding
itself behind her smile. Growing up in a poor neighbourhood, the kids around the block knew each
other very well; we could understand each other because of our situations. In some nights the
neighbourhood kids would gather around the abandoned house just around the corner from where I
lived. We would talk about our dreams of going away to the city and our unrealistic hopes of
becoming a millionaire overnight. We all knew that was impossible, but one can dream. I for the
longest time dreamt of becoming a teacher. When I was younger I knew it would only be a dream, it
would never become a reality. But as I grew up watching children who don t dream, or dismiss their
own desires , I knew I wanted to make something out of myself, to prove those that said I couldn t,
that I could. I wanted to make my dreams a reality. When I voiced these feelings to my family, my
father laughed at me. I sat there at our worn down dinner table and fiddled with my thumbs. Why s
that funny? I can do it,

Okonkwo Being Weak
The main character is so focused on becoming a great man, the opposite image of his father, that he
forgets to be a good man. He is an abusive husband, beating his wives unnecessarily. He proves to be a
cruel and calculating father, playing favorites with his children, and dismissing them when they
displease him. He does everything with a heavy hand, and these methods work for him until they
cease to. That day comes when he accidentally kills someone and is banished from the village. But, of
course, problems had arisen even before this incident. When Ikemefuna dies, even Okonkwo s best
friend, Obierika warns him against his own clear folly, saying If I were you I would have stayed at

The oracle never ordered Okonkwo to kill Ikemefuna. It only said that the deed had to be done.
Another man in the village could have carried out the order, but because of Okonkwo s personality, he
thought it necessary to execute the boy himself. What about Okonkwo made him do it? Okonkwo has
a deep fear of being weak. Weakness is a womanly trait, one that his father possessed, and as has
already been stated, Okonkwo is a man. When the troupe of men are out in the woods, and Ikemefuna
turns to Okonkwo to beg for help, it would be the womanly thing, to not act. He could not let it appear
that his foster son s pleadings affected him, so he [cuts] him down because He was afraid of being
weak (Achebe 61). His idea backfires, though, because after killing the boy, Okonkwo falls into a
depression that he cannot shake. It is his guilt, his conscience, but as it turns out, the conscience is yet
another undesirable, womanly trait. He chooses to ignore it. Before this moment though, a village
elder had even warned Okonkwo not to venture into the woods with the other men to kill the boy. He
says that boy calls you father. Do not bear a hand in his death (Achebe

Persuasive Essay On Homework
Homework is defined as tasks assigned to students by school teachers that are intended to be carried
out during nonschool hours (Voorhees). Throughout the United States history, people s opinions have
varied on the topic of homework. Historically, variation in the opinions of homework have shifted
over time due to educational trends and world events. Today, the topic of homework continues to
cause debate among various organizations and schools of thought. Although homework has
demonstrated positive effects on students, homework should not be given to students because it is not
assigned appropriately, stressful for everyone, and does not benefit all students. While there are many
negatives towards assigning homework, there are a few positives that should be mentioned. In the
journal, The Case For and Against Homework , Robert Marzano and Debra Pickering state, The
average student in a class in which appropriate homework was assigned would score 23 percentile
points higher on tests of the knowledge addressed in that class than the average student in a class in
which homework was not assigned (76). This testing success that students receive from doing
homework can reinforce positive attitudes toward school and homework. Performing assignments at

improving grades can provide a student with a sense of confidence in him/herself. By providing

Examples Of Knights In Beowulf And Sir Gawain And The...
Based on the literature that we have read and the films that we have seen in the past, knights are
depicted as these honorable, noble heroes. They follow a strict set of rules, going to extreme lengths to
uphold their knightly name. Interestingly enough, the knights in Monty Python and the Holy Grail
seem to understand their chivalrous ideals and aspirations, yet never seem to be able to fulfill it. Due
to the knights in the movie never achieving their honorable goals, we are able to get a good laugh out
of their mistakes. In Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight , knights are characterized as
warriors, vigilant protectors, ready to face their worst fears; meanwhile, in Monty Python and the
Holy Grail, their knights seem to have never faced any kind of danger in all their lives. For instance,
in Beowulf, a brave, young knight protected his king against a great evil, a dragon ruthlessly
protecting its gold, never once considering abandoning him. In example, the dragon was a terrifying
obstacle, eagerly awaiting their fight to the death. While many of Beowulf s knights fled, one brave
man, Wiglaf, stayed behind to help his king acquire the treasure he was so adamantly fighting for. This
young man, though presented with the overbearing curse of death, persevered in the honor of his
name. Wiglaf was the honest version of a knight; loyal, brave, heroic. He did everything in his power
to help his king, refusing to ever flee, regardless if it could cause him to pay the

Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Great Gatsby
Nathaniel Hawthorne has written may pieces of literature that has made us dig deep inside his words
to extract different meanings. He is well known for being one of the fathers of the American short
story. He is considered a Dark Romantic whose perception is muddled by limits on human
consciousness; where truth is uncertain and it shadows our abilities (Moreland). He is of Puritan
descendent and therefore his writing portrays anxiety, guilt, self depression and sins being passed
down (Moreland). His writing demonstrates how he likes to go deep within an individual s
unconscious. One of his best short stories is Rappaccini s Daughter. There is so much to take in from
such a short story. He includes cultural contexts pertaining to the nineteenth century women s equality
as well as ethical choices which turn out to be unethical. Hawthorne is a Puritan and therefore his
literature demonstrates it s religion. For example, when Giovanni, the medical student, is observing
Doctor Rappaccini s garden. The first thing he notices is all the great vegetation. As he continues
observing, he sees Rappaccini is touching the plants with gloves and he is being very careful not to
inhale its fragrance. He wonders if this garden is the Eden of modern times in the following passage:
Nevertheless, in spite of the deep intelligence on his part, there was no approach to intimacy between
himself and these vegetable existences. On the contrary, he avoided their actual touch, or the direct

Internal Comments:
No. While the idea that we choose to see the world either optimistically and pessimistically is
beautifully expressed throughout the poem, it comes across as trite in parts. The main idea of the poem
is not completely developed instead, the author spends too much time on unnecessary side characters.
In addition, there are several errors in terms of grammar as well as imprecise word choice.
To the First Reader:
Dear Denee Freeman, thank you for your commentary on submission 10405 ( Kaleidoscope Eyes ).

The author does this by presenting a variety of snapshots of people with this grey world view,
lingering on the last snapshot of the family, to expand on the kaleidoscope view of the children. You re
obviously aware of how language impacts mood, and do a nice job choosing their words.
I wished this poem had more showing, instead of telling, such as with the failed marriage and the will
to continue living. I think more specificity in your images, would eliminate both some of the moments
where the poem borders on cliche as well as the moments that distance the reader from the snapshots.
Personal details with make the poem stronger, and feel like the reader is in your snapshot scenes.
The second note for revision I have for this poem is to think about the form. Right now the form isn t
particularly helping you, and in some places with the uneven spacing and unnecessary stanza breaks, it
actively hurts your poem. I would consider fewer stanzas personally. I wonder even about having a
very regimented line, stanza, or even a syllabic pattern, except for those lines speaking about
kaleidoscope eyes. Thank you so much for submitting to Polyphony H.S.; continue

The Effect Of Salt And Sugar On Heart Rate
How salt and sugar affect heart rate and blood pressure
Heart rate is a measuring system for heart. It is measured by how many times then heart beats. A
normal heart rate is usually between 60 100 beats. Abnormal is if the heart rate is too high or very low.
Also, if the heart beats at irregular times. Some factors that change a person s heart rate are, the body
temperature. It affects the heart rate because the warmer the body gets the heart beats more quickly.
This happens because the body is trying to move more blood in the body to cool it down. When the
body temperature is cold it also beats after because of it trying to keep the body warmer. Blood
pressure is the pressure in the circulatory system. It is measured in systolic and diastolic. Systolic

The Motif In Rhodopis And The Egyptian Cinderella Story
Throughout the world, there are hundreds of Cinderella stories from many different cultures on Earth.
Each Cinderella story around the world connects to the culture it originates in, based on their political,
economical, and religious beliefs, as well as their location and their achievements, like the Cinderella
story from France, and Rhodopis (the Egyptian Cinderella story). Furthermore, according to the
Egyptian (actually Greek) Rhodopis and the French Cinderella, both are similar in a way where the
motif damsel in distress , reveals the culture it originates from through the social necessity of social
classes.
In this case, the French Cinderella damsel in distress motif reveals that the story originated in France.

The damsel in distress in the Egyptian Cinderella story is a young woman who is a slave to a rich
master. Rhodopis is always being made fun of and forced to do all the hard work of her fellow servant
girls, just because she is different and beautiful. I know this, because the story claims that, They would
tease her and make fun of her, . They made sure that she did all the work, like, washing clothes,
weeding the garden, and making their food for them, par. 2. This punishment is unfair for Rhodopis,
which shows the damsel in distress motif in the Egyptian story as well. Rhodopis got captured by
pirates, and sold as a slave, according to the story. This was very common in Ancient Egypt, because
there was a need for somebody to do the housekeeping work for rich people who had government
posts and couldn t do the work. All of the wealth in Egypt came from the crops that slaves/farmers
would grow to make money, which was given to the nobles to distribute to the people and give to the
Pharaoh. Without the slaves, there would be no crops, and without crops, there would be no money.
Because of this, the author of Rhodopis altered the story to make the damsel in distress motif fit in

Bill Bradley Leadership Qualities
To reiterate, Bill Bradley s virtues of leadership, hard work, and respect are what account most for his
accomplishment as a citizen athlete. Bradleys first virtue is leadership. He was a leader on and off the
court, and he had this trait instilled in him since a little boy ( Bill Bradley. Biography). For example,
Bradley would always be the one who started communication on the court. He spoke in basketball
terms that nevertheless underlined his basic principle. (Bradley 106). Another example of Bill Bradley
s leadership virtue was when he led his Princeton Tigers to a winning season ( Bill Bradley 65. ). For
Bill, that accomplishment was not easy or given to him. He was on the rise and everyone wanted to
beat him. Everyone knew that he was an NBA prospect, but he kept his composure and played to the
best of his ability every single game. It did not matter who he was playing, he gave it his all and made
his teammates better. His teammates loved playing with him. Bill displayed impeccable confidence.
He always made the right decisions whether it was shooting the last shot for the win or getting his
teammates involved (Bradley 106). This was not only on the court but his leadership carried into his
post career. Bill was involved not only in sports, but he was also the U.S Senates for New Jersey. He
displayed tremendous patience through rigorous campaigning. This shows that he wanted to help
benefit values of our nation and come to a conclusion that will place a smile on

Appeasement was thought to be a way of keeping Germany at bay, however, it was proven to be an

World War 2 as it allowed Hitler to build his military power until it was strong enough to fight a world

Film Analysis Of Stanley Kubrick s A Clockwork Orange
Stanley Kubrick has returned after his 1971 s controversial success A Clockwork Orange with his
tonally different 1975 feature, Barry Lyndon. His last feature was a movie that was ultra violent and
about a totalitarianism society. This movie is different by a wide margin. It has more of a historical
value because it takes place in England during the Seven Years War and we get a sense of English
society at the time. It is also based off the works of famed nineteenth century writer William
Makepeace Thackeray. This film also has a lovely atmospheric air to it. Kubrick, as usual, masterfully
write this feature. You could tell that this is his pet project. However, the movie does clock in at over
three hours and with the lack of action, there can be a dull moment or two to be had. After all, I feel
the aristocratic world can get somewhat boring at times. That being said, we have Kubrick on the top
of his game as he created a valued historical narrative that remains mostly interesting and our eyes are
able to feast on perfect costuming and successful camera experimenting. Essentially, Kubrick and
cinematographer John Alcott shot the film without the use of electrical light, and that is why the look
of the film seemed a bit odd compared to other films. Narratively, I felt the first hour of the film was
the strongest. I found the last two hours enjoyable, but it would be very hard to top the perfect
narrative of the first hour. During theS 1700 s in Ireland, Redmond Barry (Ryan

and the south. The civil war lasted four years while there were eleven southern states saying that
slaves should be legal, but the north disagreed and fought to free the blacks.
Abe is also on the one cent and the five dollar bill. He is on the one cent also called the Lincoln Penny
because of his bravery and good deeds in the United States, when in service as president. Lincoln is as
well on the five dollar bill because of his singing of the emancipation approximation. On the five
dollar bill, it is a picture of Abe on the front and then the Lincoln memorial on the back.
Abraham Lincoln was a great role model for The United States of America. Abe did wonderful things
while serving as our 16th president, for instance, issuing the Emancipation Proclamation, fighting
against slavery during the civil war and now he is a common thing people think about when the civil
war is talked about up and also a very large part of why millions of slaves are free. Abraham Lincoln
was such a good role model he ended up on a one cent coin and on the 5 dollar bill. Abe will always

Essay On Gay Adoption
Homosexuality defined as being sexually attracted to one s own gender has incessantly been a
compelling social issue. A majority of society sees the wrong sexual orientation as evil or unhuman,
regardless of character content. In April 1952, the American Psychiatric Association even labeled
homosexuality as a mental disorder. Today, same sex relationships have been normalized and live life
as ordinary people, yet treated as second class citizens. This treatment by society has significantly
limited the basic human rights of these individuals, including parenthood. Should LGBTQ+ be able to
adopt children? Do gay parents and guardians effect children negatively? Adoption is a lengthy
process of legally accepting responsibilities of a non biological child. While adoption is usually
governed by laws that vary from state to state, but there are also federal regulations. These federal
laws are set in place to provide clarity on who can and cannot adopt, parental rights, consent, the best
interest of the adoptees, and the confidentiality of the adoption. Preceding the adoption process,
applicants of every state must undergo an extensive background check, mental health analysis, an
examination of the household s members, and the finances of the applicant. About 51,000 American
children are for adoption each year, according to pregnantpause.com. This high rate subsequently
leads to system slipups criminals and rather undesirable, unfit parents adopt

The Models Of Human Behavior Essay
Introduction The purpose of this report is to look at the four models of human behaviour including:
amoeba, rat, computer and actor and to try and determine if any of these four models of behaviour
influenced the actions of the pilots aboard either the Chembulk Houston or the Monte Alegre. The
report will also look at what other factors may have influenced the decisions of each of the pilots
during while the overtaking manoeuvre was being performed and also up to the point the two ships
collided. The four models of human behaviour identified throughout the incident. The two people that
shall be studied in the report are the two ships pilots from the Houston Pilots Association. The deputy
pilot aboard the Chembulk Houston and the pilot whom was aboard the Monte Alegre. The first pilot
to review will be the deputy pilot aboard the Chembulk Houston. The deputy pilot was still an
apprentice in his second of two years training to become a full pilot. The deputy pilot learnt via the
very high frequency (VHF) radio that the tugboats for the Monte Alegre had been delayed and he also
learnt that the pilot aboard the Monte Alegre had decided to slow his vessel down. The deputy pilot
aboard the Chembulk Houston contacted the pilot aboard the Monte Alegre via the VHF radio at about
12:49pm and suggested that the Chembulk Houston overtake the Monte Alegre. The deputy pilot
aboard the Chembulk Houston then asked the pilot aboard the Monte Alegre which side was the best

Cross Sectional Relationship Between Life Expectancy And...
ABSTRACT
According the Samuel. H. Preston, there is an empirical cross sectional relationship between life
expectancy and income. Named after him, the Preston Curve shows that there is in fact a positive
correlation between the two variables.
To discuss the topic above, this brings up the research question of this paper, that is: Is the relationship
between life expectancy and income different in countries that are growing endogenously?
Using a cross sectional data with 30 observations, this paper finds the relationship between life
expectancy and income in countries that are growing endogenously. After gathering the data and doing
the regression analysis using STATA, even though it is true that there is a positive correlation between
the two variables, income has a very small impact towards life expectancy. There are other factors that
would have a bigger impact to change life expectancy.
1. INTRODUCTION
Economists would often try to find a certain relationship between different variables. The relationship
that was found is then shown to other economists, and people would start trying to either approve it
right, or the other way, approve it wrong. One theory that is known to be proved correct is the
relationship between life expectancy and income. However, there are still people who are trying to
disapprove this theory as the world economy has changed.
Known as the Preston Curve, this theory is an empirical cross sectional relationship between life
expectancy

Fahrenheit 451 Deuteragonism Analysis
The protagonist and deuteragonist in Fahrenheit 451 are introduced as having opposing views on
society. Montague, the main character is initially shown to be a conforming individual. This is
confirmed by the mention that for him It was a pleasure to burn ... a special pleasure to see things
eaten, to see things blackened and changed (Bradbury 1). The description shows that the protagonist
felt no sense of guilt for his actions and that he believed that there was nothing wrong with what he
was doing. The deuteragonist, on the other hand, is shown to be an open minded individual. Her
objectivity of thought is clearly demonstrated by the conversation she has with Montague. Statements

Opposing Viewpoints on The Lord´s Supper of Luther and...
The ceremony of the Lord s Supper at Marburg in 1529 triggered numerous heartless debates amongst
two protagonists Luther and Zwingli. Throughout the Reformation era, debates played an important
role, as they were a main mechanism in familiarizing the Reformation into countless towns. Debates
were a means of resolving differences amongst like minded Protestant groups. Landgrave Philip of
Hesse had summoned the Hessian Chancellor Feige to send for both Luther and Zwingli for the
express and urgent purpose of settling their dispute over the Lord s Supper. Therefore, the purpose of
this debate was to solve the dispute over how Luther and Zwingli saw the sacrament of the Lord s
Supper.

433). The opinions of Luther and Zwingli were neither new nor sacrilegious, but were based on belief
and the Scripture.
After Oecolampadius spoke, Zwingli said the Lord s Supper must be symbolic. It is ever apparent and
even required by the article of faith: taken up into heaven, seated at the right hand of the Father (p.
433). It is ridiculous to search for him in the Lord s Supper the identical time in which Christ is telling
individuals that he is located in heaven. One and the identical body cannot be in dissimilar locations.
Zwingli stated they call upon Luther to provide glory to God as well as to stop begging the query.
Zwingli questioned the proof of Luther s position as Zwingli willingly contemplates the words Luther
says extremely carefully. He knew Luther was trying to outwit him. At this point Zwingli stands by the
sixth chapter of John, verse 63, and says that he will not be shaken from it.
Due to the excerpt from the vivacious and often brutal debate between Zwingli and Luther, I believe
that the Reformation debates led to further hostility rather than compromise and unity between
religious and sectarian opponents. I mainly believe that due to this debate being frequently brutal.
There was only one major implication that this caused for the future of the Protestant Reformation.
That one major implication was that debates continued to be brutal and

Literary Devices In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet Literary Analysis Essay Literary devices are reveal several details about characters
in stories, movies, plays, and other writings. Oxymorons are two opposites placed right next to each
other. A paradox is simply a oxymoron except seperated and placed in a sentence. Lastly, a
juxtaposition is contrasting two objects such as characters, places, and even their actions. William
Shakespeare successfully added all of these literary devices into his famous play Romeo and Juliet.
Shakespeare indirectly revealed character traits for Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Laurence by using all
three of these literary devices. Shakespeare used the figurative language to indirectly describe who
Romeo is. Romeo and Mercutio argue with each other about the importance of dreams (1.4.11 103).
During Mercutio s Queen Mab speech, it reveals that Romeo is a dreamer and Mercutio is not. This is
a juxtaposition because Mercutio and Romeo have two different mindsets on dreams. An example of
Shakespeare using a oxymoron to indirectly describe Romeo is when Romeo states, Feather of lead, ...

Juliet says, Come, night; come, Romeo, come thou day in night (3.2.17). She waits for Romeo all day
until night not knowing about the fight with Tybalt. As she speaks, this quote reveals that Juliet is
obsessive and passionate. She is explaining that Romeo is her sun and a necessity for life. It is a
paradox because it talks about day in night which are two opposites in a sentence. Juliet tells the Nurse
as she finds out Romeo is apart of the Montagues: My only love sprung from my only hate (1.5.136).
This clarified that she is a risk taker and very rebellious for still wanting to love Romeo. Also, this is
another paradox because her only love came from her only hate which is two opposites in a sentence.
For Friar Laurence, Shakespeare uses paradoxes and oxymorons to indirectly explain who he

Where Land Ends, Life Begins
Sea Ray Marketing Plan
Executive Summary
The boating industry has suffered serious revenue losses since the 2008 downturn in the economy. Our
strategy for Sea Ray of Knoxville minimizes risk yet strengthens and refines the current marketing
campaign. Analysis indicates a concentration on families and communities would coincide with Sea
Ray s current image that Where land ends, life begins. Sea Ray is a private subsidiary of Brunswick
Corporation. The company sells four product lines which include Sport Boats, Sport Cruisers, Sport
Yachts, and Yachts. The company was founded in 1959 and was one of the first to use fiberglass in the
construction of recreational boats. To differentiate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now that momentum is gone; however, sport boat manufacturers are optimistic about the next ten
years. A tidal wave of retiring baby boomers could offer substantial new buyers when the economy
rebounds. The boating industry in general forecasts better days ahead. D. Long Term Industry Outlook
There is a bright future for the sport boat industry; the market as a whole is expected to grow in the
near future. In 2006 the sport boat market had a total value of $6.9 billion; that value has climbed by
9.3% each year, and that trend is expected to continue for the next 3 years. This means that the sport
boat market will be worth $10.1 billion by 2014. This industry rebound is dependent upon the
recovery of the market and a general change in attitude of banks to lend more money for boat
purchases. In addition to this overall market growth and economic recovery, we can expect sport boat
sales to increase due to an increase in the number of boat purchasers. As the baby boomers reach
retirement age, the number of boats sold can be expected to increase causing the overall market to
increase at a rate greater than the expected 9.3%. With this explosion in the sport boat market, positive
economic activity, and the increased willingness of banks to grant loans, it is expected that the sport
boat market will expand beyond all future expectations.4

Alfred Thayer Mahan The Influence Of Sea Power Upon History
Alfred Thayer Mahan s seminal work, The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660 1783,
published in 1891, is an influential work of military theory. Although he is a revered military theorist,
Mahan was criticized for not being a systematic. For example, he failed to consider social and cultural
conditions in the rise of sea power; the rise of the English middle class, American agrarian discontent,
and the rise of Russia. He also neglected to properly define the term sea power, of which he claimed to
have invented. Even so, two main interpretations of sea power do start to emerge. Firstly, the
command of the sea through naval superiority and second, that combination of maritime commerce,
overseas possessions, and privileged access to foreign markets that produces national wealth and
greatness. Mahan also theorized that a naval fleet should never be divided and that victory at sea is
only possible by fleet concentration, his most important principle in naval warfare.
During the time of Mahan s publishing, the United States was beginning to change its views on
warfare. After the Civil War, US military leaders had more time to devote to studying ... Show more

The Argentine Debt Restructuring Of Argentina
The Argentine debt restructuring is a process of debt restructuring by Argentina which began on
January 14, 2005, and allowed it to resume payment on the majority of the USD 82 billion in
sovereign bonds that defaulted in 2002 at the depth of the worst economic crisis in the nation s history.
A second debt restructuring in 2010 brought the percentage of bonds, out of default, to 93%, though
ongoing disputes with holdouts remained. Bondholders who participated in the restructuring, accepted
repayments of around 30% of face value and deferred payment terms, and began to be paid
punctually; the value of their bonds also began to rise. The remaining 7% of bondholders later won the
right to be repaid in full.
As part of the restructuring process, Argentina drafted agreements in which repayments would be
handled through a New York corporation and governed by United States law. The holdout bondholders
found themselves unable to seize Argentine sovereign assets in settlement, but realized that Argentina
had omitted to provide for holdout situations and had instead deemed all bonds repayable on pari
passu (equal) terms that prevented preferential treatment among bondholders. The holdout
bondholders therefore sought, and won, an injunction in 2012 that prohibited Argentina from re
paying the 93% of bonds that had been renegotiated, unless they simultaneously paid the 7% holdouts
their full amount due as well.
Together with the agreement s Rights Upon Future Offers ( RUFO ) clause,

##titudes Of Civilization In William Golding s Lord Of The...
We all consider ourselves civilized. We think this because we are sophisticated and cultured, and have
laws and order. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding explores a scenario where schoolboys enter a
lawless and orderless paradise. Through his depiction of characters, Jack, Roger, and the naval officer,
he reveals his attitudes towards civilization and civilized behavior. Golding shows that civilization and
society are only masks, a constraint for human s true selves because no one is truly civilized, but
instead innately uncivilized and savage.
From the beginning of the novel, Golding uses Jack Merridew s development and actions to present
his attitudes of civilizations and its constraints. Jack begins as a normal choir boy, with respect to rules
and against uncivilized behavior: We ve got to have rules, and obey them. After all, we re not savages.
We re English and the English are best at everything. (42) He believes in civilized actions and
following rules, which is continually contrasted by his behavior in later chapters. He neglects his duty
to keep the signal fire going, and he doesn t follow the rules of the conch. However, the one duty he
doesn t neglect to do, is hunting. But the way Jack feels about doing it, does change. Jack, Simon, and
Ralph all go on the first adventure trip of the island, and they find a pig without even searching for
one, but it is Jack s responsibility to hunt and kill it, as he was designated as one of the hunters.
However, he

Businesses and family budgets require energy efficiency in order to get their money s worth. Technology is being constantly developed to help make our energy sources more efficient. More efficient lighting, like LED light bulbs are being produced to conserve energy, along with more efficient vehicles. Some of these technologies are more readily implemented, and affordable than others, but efforts are still being made to make the world a more energy efficient place. In addition to energy efficiency saving money for businesses and households, it also helps reduce the emission of greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change. Summary This research ... This tends to be the most noteworthy source of emissions by individuals.³ 2) Electricity used for running refrigerators, dryers, and televisions, and charging devices uses approximately 4,000 units of electricity per annually.³ 3) Traveling by air is also a part of the average person s carbon footprint; although the tendency tends to be for a person to either rarely fly, or fly often (as in about twenty flights yearly).³ 4) Electronics like phones, iPods, and laptops use up energy, and have to be charged often.³ 5) The food that we eat is also a component of our carbon footprint. The fertilizers used to grow, and produce the food that we buy is the main source of greenhouse gases in the food process; although packaging, and transporting food is also a small part of it.³ 6) The production of the clothes that we wear has an impact. • 3. Ordeal or Reconstruction 1. What were the four main questions facing peacemakers in 1865? a. The aftermath of the war was crucial due to the fact that the south and north were totally separated during the civil war, but more importantly was that all the fighting had ben done in the south, which meant that the majority of the damage was done in the southern towns. This caused the towns and fields to be ruined, and many properties worthless. So many peacemakers wanted to assure the southerners possessions. b. His stance on reconstruction was similar to Lincoln s, in that he was not as harsh on the South as the Radical Republicans in Congress wanted. In May 1865, Johnson issued his Amnesty Proclamation, which required an oath of loyalty from former confederates, who would then be pardoned and have their property restored (except slaves) that had be confiscated by Federal officials during the war. The only people not included in this proclamation were high ranking military and civilian Confederate officials and those who resigned their positions in the Federal government to serve the in the Confederacy. Johnson issued a second proclamation outlining his plan for how the states should go about getting themselves back into the Union. Under this plan, the President would appoint a governor to each state under reconstruction. 5. What were the effects of the Black Codes? a. • 4. Summary Of The Poem White Lies The poem White Lies by Natasha Trethewey, gives the reader a glimpse of Trethewey s troublesome upbringing in a biracial family during a time when biracial marriage was illegal in the deep South. Trethewey s poems tend to have a deeper meaning and several secreted messages. The poem, White Lies, is a prime example of Trethewey s phenomenal work and conveys an important, and quite dejected, message. Trethewey clearly defines her attitude as embarrassed and ashamed of her upbringing in a biracial family. Trethewey begins in lines 1 through 6 by telling the readers about the lies she told as a child. She explains to the readers that these lies were just white lies and nothing more than that. In lines 1 through 6, Trethewey says, The lies I could tell, /when I was growing up /light bright, near white /high yellow, red boned /in a black place, /were just white lies. The literal definition of a white lie is, a harmless or trivial lie, especially one told to avoid hurting someone s feelings. Though, Trethewey includes a double meaning within her title, White Lies. The author is clearly referring to herself by using color imagery when she says, The lies I could tell, /when I was growing up /light bright, near white /high yellow, red boned /in a black place, /were just white lies. These white lies are about Trethewey hiding the fact that she comes from a biracial home in the deep South because of how embarrassed and ashamed she is of it. Furthermore, Trethewey further conveys her message of embarrassment and ashamedness of her black culture and biracial family in lines 7 through 18. Trethewey speaks of how she would tell white lies about where she lives in lines 7 through 11. The author states, I could easily tell the white folks /that we lived uptown, /not in that shanty fied shotgun section /along the tracks. Trethewey is using alliteration when she says, not in that shanty fied shot gun section. Likewise, Trethewey is also embarrassed of her clothing that is homemade by her loving mother. Trethewey says, I could act /like my homemade dresses /came straight out of the window /of Maison Blanche. • 16. Paradise Lost By John Milton Essay Eve in Paradise Lost In the visions of Western world and civilization, the descend of mankind from the Garden of Eden serves as the prominent, underlying story of the formulation of existence. In 1667, in the seventeenth century, author John Milton recasts the creation story in an epic form of poetry consisting of ten books with over ten thousand lines of verse, in order to conspicuously portray the characters and their actions that lead to the Fall of Mankind. In both Paradise Lost and the Bible, the blame for the banishment of mankind from the Garden of Eden is placed on Eve for falling into the seducing of Satan. Throughout his epic work, Milton conveys Eve s advancement from an autonomous woman to a more reliant woman to portray that women are not essentially conceived as acquiescent beings. Eve is compelled into assent due to the patriarchal environment she is surrounded by, therefore attributing it and allowing her to develop into a women. Paradise Lost conceives Eve as more than solely the mother of humankind and the wife of Adam. Milton s emendation of Eve in a biblical sense alters the character from fixed as portrayed in the Bible to a more dynamic person in Paradise Lost. In doing so, Milton portrays to the reader a different and originally a more favorable perspective of Eve and her character. He is an abusive husband, beating his wives unnecessarily. He proves to be a cruel and calculating father, playing favorites with his children, and dismissing them when they displease him. He does everything with a heavy hand, and these methods work for him until they cease to. That day comes when he accidentally kills someone and is banished from the village. But, of course, problems had arisen even before this incident. When Ikemefuna dies, even Okonkwo s best friend, Obierika warns him against his own clear folly, saying If I were you I would have stayed at home. What you have done will not please the Earth. Another man in the village could have carried out the order, but because of Okonkwo s personality, he thought it necessary to execute the boy himself. What about Okonkwo made him do it? Okonkwo has a deep fear of being weak. Weakness is a womanly trait, one that his father possessed, and as has already been stated, Okonkwo is a man. When the troupe of men are out in the woods, and Ikemefuna turns to Okonkwo to beg for help, it would be the womanly thing, to not act. He could not let it appear that his foster son s pleadings affected him, so he [cuts] him down because He was afraid of being weak (Achebe 61). His idea backfires, though, because after killing the boy, Okonkwo falls into a depression that he cannot shake. It is his guilt, his conscience, but as it turns out, the conscience is yet another undesirable, womanly trait. He chooses to ignore it. Before this moment though, a village elder had even warned Okonkwo not to venture into the woods with the other men to kill the boy. He says that boy calls you father. • 28. Examples Of Knights In Beowulf And Sir Gawain And The... Based on the literature that we have read and the films that we have seen in the past, knights are depicted as these honorable, noble heroes. They follow a strict set of rules, going to extreme lengths to uphold their knightly name. Interestingly enough, the knights in Monty Python and the Holy Grail seem to understand their chivalrous ideals and aspirations, yet never seem to be able to fulfill it. Due to the knights in the movie never achieving their honorable goals, we are able to get a good laugh out of their mistakes. In Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight , knights are characterized as warriors, vigilant protectors, ready to face their worst fears; meanwhile, in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, their knights seem to have never faced any kind of danger in all their lives. For instance, in Beowulf, a brave, young knight protected his king against a great evil, a dragon ruthlessly protecting its gold, never once considering abandoning him. In example, the dragon was a terrifying obstacle, eagerly awaiting their fight to the death. While many of Beowulf s knights fled, one brave man, Wiglaf, stayed behind to help his king acquire the treasure he was so adamantly fighting for. This young man, though presented with the overbearing curse of death, persevered in the honor of his name. Wiglaf was the honest version of a knight; loyal, brave, heroic. • 29. Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Great Gatsby Nathaniel Hawthorne has written may pieces of literature that has made us dig deep inside his words to extract different meanings. He is well known for being one of the fathers of the American short story. He is considered a Dark Romantic whose perception is muddled by limits on human consciousness; where truth is uncertain and it shadows our abilities (Moreland). He is of Puritan descendent and therefore his writing portrays anxiety, guilt, self depression and sins being passed down (Moreland). His writing demonstrates how he likes to go deep within an individual s unconscious. One of his best short stories is Rappaccini s Daughter. There is so much to take in from such a short story. He includes cultural contexts pertaining to the nineteenth century women s equality as well as ethical choices which turn out to be unethical. Hawthorne is a Puritan and therefore his literature demonstrates it s religion. For example, when Giovanni, the medical student, is observing Doctor Rappaccini s garden. The first thing he notices is all the great vegetation. As he continues observing, he sees Rappaccini is touching the plants with gloves and he is being very careful not to inhale its fragrance. He wonders if this garden is the Eden of modern times in the following passage: Nevertheless, in spite of the deep intelligence on his part, there was no approach to intimacy between himself and these vegetable existences. Named after him, the Preston Curve shows that there is in fact a positive correlation between the two variables. To discuss the topic above, this brings up the research question of this paper, that is: Is the relationship between life expectancy and income different in countries that are growing endogenously? Using a cross sectional data with 30 observations, this paper finds the relationship between life expectancy and income in countries that are growing endogenously. After gathering the data and doing the regression analysis using STATA, even though it is true that there is a positive correlation between the two variables, income has a very small impact towards life expectancy. There are other factors that would have a bigger impact to change life expectancy. 1. INTRODUCTION Economists would often try to find a certain relationship between different variables. • 46. Opposing Viewpoints on The Lord´s Supper of Luther and... The ceremony of the Lord s Supper at Marburg in 1529 triggered numerous heartless debates amongst two protagonists Luther and Zwingli. Throughout the Reformation era, debates played an important role, as they were a main mechanism in familiarizing the Reformation into countless towns. Debates were a means of resolving differences amongst like minded Protestant groups. Landgrave Philip of Hesse had summoned the Hessian Chancellor Feige to send for both Luther and Zwingli for the express and urgent purpose of settling their dispute over the Lord s Supper. Therefore, the purpose of this debate was to solve the dispute over how Luther and Zwingli saw the sacrament of the Lord s Supper. Luther undoubtedly believed the colloquy is well ... After Oecolampadius spoke, Zwingli said the Lord s Supper must be symbolic. It is ever apparent and even required by the article of faith: taken up into heaven, seated at the right hand of the Father (p. 433). It is ridiculous to search for him in the Lord s Supper the identical time in which Christ is telling individuals that he is located in heaven. One and the identical body cannot be in dissimilar locations. Zwingli stated they call upon Luther to provide glory to God as well as to stop begging the query. Zwingli questioned the proof of Luther s position as Zwingli willingly contemplates the words Luther says extremely carefully. He knew Luther was trying to outwit him. At this point Zwingli stands by the sixth chapter of John, verse 63, and says that he will not be shaken from it. Due to the excerpt from the vivacious and often brutal debate between Zwingli and Luther, I believe that the Reformation debates led to further hostility rather than compromise and unity between religious and sectarian opponents. I mainly believe that due to this debate being frequently brutal. There was only one major implication that this caused for the future of the Protestant Reformation. That one major implication was that debates continued to be brutal and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Literary Devices In Romeo And Juliet Romeo and Juliet Literary Analysis Essay Literary devices are reveal several details about characters in stories, movies, plays, and other writings. Oxymorons are two opposites placed right next to each other. A paradox is simply a oxymoron except seperated and placed in a sentence. Lastly, a juxtaposition is contrasting two objects such as characters, places, and even their actions. William Shakespeare successfully added all of these literary devices into his famous play Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare indirectly revealed character traits for Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Laurence by using all three of these literary devices. Shakespeare used the figurative language to indirectly describe who Romeo is. Romeo and Mercutio argue with each other about the importance of dreams (1.4.11 103). During Mercutio s Queen Mab speech, it reveals that Romeo is a dreamer and Mercutio is not. This is a juxtaposition because Mercutio and Romeo have two different mindsets on dreams. An example of Shakespeare using a oxymoron to indirectly describe Romeo is when Romeo states, Feather of lead, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Juliet says, Come, night; come, Romeo, come thou day in night (3.2.17). She waits for Romeo all day until night not knowing about the fight with Tybalt. As she speaks, this quote reveals that Juliet is obsessive and passionate. She is explaining that Romeo is her sun and a necessity for life. It is a paradox because it talks about day in night which are two opposites in a sentence. Juliet tells the Nurse as she finds out Romeo is apart of the Montagues: My only love sprung from my only hate (1.5.136). This clarified that she is a risk taker and very rebellious for still wanting to love Romeo. Also, this is another paradox because her only love came from her only hate which is two opposites in a sentence. For Friar Laurence, Shakespeare uses paradoxes and oxymorons to indirectly explain who he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now that momentum is gone; however, sport boat manufacturers are optimistic about the next ten years. A tidal wave of retiring baby boomers could offer substantial new buyers when the economy rebounds. The boating industry in general forecasts better days ahead. D. Long Term Industry Outlook There is a bright future for the sport boat industry; the market as a whole is expected to grow in the near future. In 2006 the sport boat market had a total value of $6.9 billion; that value has climbed by 9.3% each year, and that trend is expected to continue for the next 3 years. This means that the sport boat market will be worth $10.1 billion by 2014. This industry rebound is dependent upon the recovery of the market and a general change in attitude of banks to lend more money for boat purchases. In addition to this overall market growth and economic recovery, we can expect sport boat sales to increase due to an increase in the number of boat purchasers. As the baby boomers reach retirement age, the number of boats sold can be expected to increase causing the overall market to increase at a rate greater than the expected 9.3%. With this explosion in the sport boat market, positive economic activity, and the increased willingness of banks to grant loans, it is expected that the sport boat market will expand beyond all future expectations.4 II. • 49. Alfred Thayer Mahan The Influence Of Sea Power Upon History Alfred Thayer Mahan s seminal work, The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660 1783, published in 1891, is an influential work of military theory. Although he is a revered military theorist, Mahan was criticized for not being a systematic. For example, he failed to consider social and cultural conditions in the rise of sea power; the rise of the English middle class, American agrarian discontent, and the rise of Russia. He also neglected to properly define the term sea power, of which he claimed to have invented. Even so, two main interpretations of sea power do start to emerge. Firstly, the command of the sea through naval superiority and second, that combination of maritime commerce, overseas possessions, and privileged access to foreign markets that produces national wealth and greatness. Mahan also theorized that a naval fleet should never be divided and that victory at sea is only possible by fleet concentration, his most important principle in naval warfare. During the time of Mahan s publishing, the United States was beginning to change its views on warfare. After the Civil War, US military leaders had more time to devote to studying ... • 50. The Argentine Debt Restructuring Of Argentina The Argentine debt restructuring is a process of debt restructuring by Argentina which began on January 14, 2005, and allowed it to resume payment on the majority of the USD 82 billion in sovereign bonds that defaulted in 2002 at the depth of the worst economic crisis in the nation s history. A second debt restructuring in 2010 brought the percentage of bonds, out of default, to 93%, though ongoing disputes with holdouts remained. Bondholders who participated in the restructuring, accepted repayments of around 30% of face value and deferred payment terms, and began to be paid punctually; the value of their bonds also began to rise. The remaining 7% of bondholders later won the right to be repaid in full. As part of the restructuring process, Argentina drafted agreements in which repayments would be handled through a New York corporation and governed by United States law. The holdout bondholders found themselves unable to seize Argentine sovereign assets in settlement, but realized that Argentina had omitted to provide for holdout situations and had instead deemed all bonds repayable on pari passu (equal) terms that prevented preferential treatment among bondholders. The holdout bondholders therefore sought, and won, an injunction in 2012 that prohibited Argentina from re paying the 93% of bonds that had been renegotiated, unless they simultaneously paid the 7% holdouts their full amount due as well. • 51. ##titudes Of Civilization In William Golding s Lord Of The... We all consider ourselves civilized. We think this because we are sophisticated and cultured, and have laws and order. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding explores a scenario where schoolboys enter a lawless and orderless paradise. Through his depiction of characters, Jack, Roger, and the naval officer, he reveals his attitudes towards civilization and civilized behavior. Golding shows that civilization and society are only masks, a constraint for human s true selves because no one is truly civilized, but instead innately uncivilized and savage. From the beginning of the novel, Golding uses Jack Merridew s development and actions to present his attitudes of civilizations and its constraints. Jack begins as a normal choir boy, with respect to rules and against uncivilized behavior: We ve got to have rules, and obey them. After all, we re not savages. We re English and the English are best at everything. (42) He believes in civilized actions and following rules, which is continually contrasted by his behavior in later chapters. He neglects his duty to keep the signal fire going, and he doesn t follow the rules of the conch. However, the one duty he doesn t neglect to do, is hunting. But the way Jack feels about doing it, does change. Jack, Simon, and Ralph all go on the first adventure trip of the island, and they find a pig without even searching for one, but it is Jack s responsibility to hunt and kill it, as he was designated as one of the hunters. However, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
