Age of Doubt In Europe in the 16th Century
In the 16th Century, Europeans had their faith shattered and were forced to realize that there was
doubt in what they believed in. From the countless wars being fought in the name of religion, to the
once great and wealthy countries that needed to reaffirm their place in the world, all that they had once
taken for granted was suddenly cast into doubt (446). Europeans were desperately searching for new
foundations to put their faith in in the face of intellectual, religious, and political challenges (446).
This period is an example of the expression Age of Doubt, Age of Uncertainty .
The wars going on throughout Europe through this era were claiming territories through conquest,
marriage alliances, or inheritance agreements on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the help of alliances William the Silent made with France, Germany, and England, the
Netherlands was divided up with Calvinism practiced in the north and Catholicism in the Spanish
controlled South (432 433). Between 1618 and 1648, Cardinal Richelieu led the Thirty Years War
against the Huguenots, with France against Austrian and Spain and with Germany getting the brunt of
the casualties (434 437). An example of the viciousness of the attacks were described by author Hans
Jakob Christoph von Grimmelshausen in his fictional memoir Siplicissimus (the Simpleton), where he
illustrated how each had his own device to torture the peasants, and each peasant had several tortures
(435). This ended with the signing of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, which left France in a powerful
position in Europe, Germany and Austria losing not only in casualties but in the power structure of
Europe, and Europe as a checkerboard of Protestant and Catholic principalities (437).
The price revolution in Europe was another contributing factor giving Europeans cause for concern.
Europe s population grew after the Black Plague, yet the growth of food remained constant, which led
to higher food prices for the large demand. While the price of food increased, the rate of wages did not
match the increase. Additional factors was the surplus of bullions

Iraq Invasion of Kuwait vs US Iraq War Essay
Iraq Invasion of Kuwait vs U.S Iraq War
Iraq and Kuwait have a long history; Kuwait played a huge part in the Iran Iraq war, mostly
financially. Open warfare began on September 22, 1980; Iraq claimed Iran shelled a number of border
posts on September 4, 1980. Kuwait funded Iraq during the Iraq Iran war, which caused tension
between the two nations when Iraq couldn t pay the $14 billion dollars back to Kuwait when it was
time to settle their debt. The Iraqi government asked Kuwait to forgive the debt, as they could not
afford to pay, Kuwait refused to forgive the debt, which increased tensions between the two nations.

Both the Kuwaiti and Saudi Government refused to forgive the debt, which increased diplomatic
tensions between the three countries.
The United States had to justify the 1991 and 2003 invasion of Iraq. In both cases the United States
used Iraq s history of human rights abuses under President Saddam Hussein. In his speech President
Bush stated,
(1990) First, we seek the immediate, unconditional, and complete withdrawal of all Iraqi forces from
Kuwait. Second, Kuwait s legitimate government must be restored to replace the puppet regime. And
third, my administration, as has been the case with every President from President Roosevelt to
President Reagan, is committed to the security and stability of the Persian Gulf. And fourth, I am
determined to protect the lives of American citizens abroad.
The United States and allies justified invading Iraq because of the importance of oil to the American
and western economies. After annexing Kuwait, the Iraqi government turned its eye on Saudi Arabia
where tensions had existed for many years. The United States felt they had to stand and defend a very
close and important ally. The primary justifications for invading Iraq during the 2003 Iraq war was,
Saddam Hussein was developing weapons of mass destruction. The United States also used Iraq s
history of human rights abuses as and excuse for invading Iraq. Finally, the United States sought to
invade Iraq to rid Iraq of their current regime and promote democracy. This was not well

Red Dog Analysis
In the Red Dog and The Turning, the theme of loss is an issue used to shape meaning on the idea of
change using specific language choices; the way in which the two themes are seen by the audience to
convey the meaning of change. The two texts use the theme of loss to shape meaning of change. In red
dog, the scene where john dies depicts a huge loss for the people around him, strengthening the theme
of change portrayed to the audience. Vanno, Red Dog (2011) Noooo! . We see that Vanno is obviously
affected by the loss of john, after his motorcycle ran off the road, signifying a huge change to Vanno s
life, and the people around him, especially Nancy. But the blitz truck was gone and the tractor, too.
The Turning (2004). Loss is depicted when Melanie leaves the beach campsite to go back to the farm
with her family. The audience sees a change in Billy s attitude, it changes the way he thinks, and
impacts the rest of the story. The authors of the two texts use specific language to better portray the
theme of loss. Not only in dialog, but visually. An example of this would be the death of red dog. The
audience sees the effect of the passing of red dog, as they are all depressed and emotional. You re
home now boy Nancy, Red Dog (2011), the audience sees the effect of losing Red Dog in Nancy s
voice, a specific language that Kriv Standers used to portray a more powerful meaning of change to
the audience, using the theme of loss to strengthen this idea. This idea is further strengthened by the
use of context, as Dampier is a small town with a tight community, the loss of a character will cause a
huge change to the story, and we see this in Red Dog and The Turning. In The Turning and Red Dog,
the theme of loyalty is an idea that is used to shape meaning on the idea of change to create meaning
and shape the audience s response, using specific language and context, these themes and ideas can be
better suited to create meaning. The Turning by Tim Winton uses the theme of loyalty quite
extensively in the first story. Biggie and Billy share quite a connection, For a while my mother thought

Pros And Cons Of Budget Deficit
Introduction
DEFINITION OF BUDGET DEFICIT
A state of financial health in which spending exceed revenue. The term budget deficit is most
generally used to refer to government expenditure rather than business or individual expenditure.
When referring to accrued federal government deficits, the term national debt is used. The reverse of a
budget deficit is a budget surplus, and when money in equal money out, the budget is said to be
balanced.

When a nation has a deficit, its leaders must consider the interest expenses on debt when deciding to
spend money on new projects. If the nation has high enough taxes to pay for all of its current projects,
it is easier for its leaders to spend more money since interest costs aren t a limiting the factor.
Cons of a Budget Deficit
Opportunities
A con is that a budget deficit restricts the amount of money that the government can spend in the
future. Any revenue that the government has to pay on its future interest payments reduces the amount
of revenue that it can spend on other projects. The government may not be able to take out future loans
to fund new projects that produce better results than the projects that it ran a current deficit to fund.
Stimulus
Another con is that a budget deficit reduces the government s options in a bad economy. A
government may need to increase taxes and reduce services to pay off its loans, even if the economy is
already doing poorly and businesses are failing. If the government did not need to spend its revenue
on interest, it could afford to hire additional workers and purchase more products from businesses,
creating a stimulus

How Does Shakespeare Use Deception In Othello
Othello is a play about suffering; every character in the play has some cruel compounce: not a single
being in the play escapes their harsh fate. Fate is the driving force of Othello, This is shown through
the ease of deception by Iago, the various religious influences spread throughout. as well as the meta
analysis present in most of shakespeare s plays. Deception is used throughout the play by Iago,
however it is not the driving force as said by Alyssa Brown. Othello has the fairly typical theme of
deception. Self deception is also a theme (Alyssa Brown, Brown/A/Deception). Deception does not
exist in the play. The characters have no freewill and cannot be deceived. This play uses deception
wrong according to Shakespeare. Usually, Shakespeare uses deception to a positive end of the players.
When used in tragedies, Romeo and Juliet use deception to further their love, although it does
ultimately end with their deaths, it ends with the Montague and Capulet families coming together.
Shakespeare uses deception to a positive end. Othello does not. Out of the six main characters, four

Acid-Base Lab
Acid/Base lab s purpose was to introduce extractions of one of the four neutral organic compounds (4
chlorobenzophene, biphenyl, trans stilbene, and trans chalcone). We then were asked to test the
solubility of our selected neutral compound with hexane, water, methanol, and ethyl acetate to find the
solvent that only dissolved the neutral compound while introduced to heat. Once the solvent was
chosen, we purified the compound by recrystallization, and then concluded that my neutral organic
compound was trans stilbene.
₪ Introduction ₪ It s essential for any chemist to grasp acid/base chemistry. It s a method of

Also another factor is finding a solvent at which ones compound dissolves in when heat is introduced
and insoluble at room temperature, but it should also crystalize when introduced to cold temperatures.
My compound had the melting point of trans stilbene at 121 123°C which, was just lower than the
PubChem recorded melting temperature of 122 125°C. Concluded that my neutral organic compound
was trans stilbene because of the mixed melting points similarity. If the experiment were repeated it
would be important to possibly have students use pipets or some measured method to rinse their
product during recrystallization so that mistakes such as over rinsing occur less and are more precise.
Also another improvement that could be made is to perform more tests to the acid that had been a
nucleophile to better identify its transformation. Other wise the lab that was performed was parallel to
that of work in the extraction of medicines and other compounds that are marketed as pure at a less
grand scale, but demonstrated the importance of acid/base chemistry.

Sexual Assault Cases Need To Change Essay
The Way We Handle Sexual Assault Cases Need to Change
Every 98 seconds a person is sexually assaulted. The question is how do we charge this? Do we
believe the victim? Do we hear the attacker? How can we know who is telling the truth? There are
many reasons a person would lie about being sexually assaulted. There are many reasons why a person
wouldn t lie. We need to find a solid way to handle sexual assault cases with a fair ear for both sides.
In addition, falsely charging someone with a sexual assault crime can alter their lives permanently.
People have the power to destroy a person s reputation with one sentence. According to the National
Center for Reason and Justice, When innocent people are confronted with untrue, absurd allegations of
child abuse (sexual assault), they frequently assume that this is a simple misunderstanding and that it
will be cleared up quickly .They cooperate with police and try to explain. They have faith in our
system of justice (All Rights Reserved). We need to find a way to fairly testify both sides. We need to

Critique Of The Defense Of Cover Songs
Critique for In Defense of Cover Songs There is a belief in today s society snowballing from the past
that a cover song is merely a copy or rip off of the original. This dilemma is discussed in an article
Don Cusic, who has taught courses in the music business industry since 1982 and is known as a
pioneer of music business education. Cusic s other accomplishments and credibility come from being
a historian of country music, a scholar and writer known worldwide, and an author of over 209 books
and 500 articles (Belmont University). The reason that cover songs are an important discussion in
today s society is because there is an increase in cover song creation and also a steady increase of
criticism of cover songs. This is due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cusic begins his paper with the effect of co writing asserting that the artist loses much more money
when they could have earned more if they had created a song themselves. He then goes on to explain
how fans and critics feel the need for a song to be legitimate and that if a singer doesn t create his or
her own song they are seen as an invalid artist. However, Cusic asserts that fans and critics do not care
for the artist s reason for creating the song, and that the audience s connection to the song is the reason
why it is even purchased or seen as real music. Cusic affirms that singers who create cover songs are
not any less legitimate compared to artists who create original music and that singers have their own
way of describing what a song means to them. Next, he brings up the fact that a new audience can
benefit a song, that history plays a major role in the belief of cover songs and that the boundary
between songwriters and singers are meant to be respected. He explains that if an original song is
covered, it receives the benefit of a new audience learning about the history of the original song. This
strengthens his assertion that, Many times a cover is a history lesson for a new, young audience who
never heard the original (174). Cusic further explains that cover songs were created throughout time
by providing many well known songs and artists from the past like Elvis Presley and

Persuasive Language In Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick...
In the book Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass written by himself, Douglass writes about his
experiences as a slave in the 1800 s. In the beginning of the book, he explains that he does not know
his age because most slaves are not allowed to know their age. Douglass recalls the memory of his
aunt getting tied and whipped until she was covered in blood at a very young age. He reveals to us that
slaves only get extremely limited allowances throughout a year. Children barely get any clothing to
wear, while all of them just get barely enough food to survive, He also says that slaves have to lie half
the time to avoid getting whipped and beaten.
This book gives us a real insight on how bad slavery was, how Douglass coped with it, and eventually
how he escapes from it later in the book. Douglass uses persuasive language to show the true colors of
slavery, and he uses his own experiences of being a slave himself to his advantage by giving us
accounts of his life as a slave. In this essay, I want to focus on the truth, why slaves have to lie their
way out of certain situations, and go more in depth of how Douglass language is highly persuasive to
the abolitionists of that time.
I want to focus on one specific part in this essay, a part that is very descriptive, persuasive, and
analyze deep into the text. The slave in this quote has no idea that the person they are talking to is their
actual master. It states:
The colonel, after ascertaining whom the slave belonged to,

Essay on Effective Communication
Barriers to Effective Communication
Even though an individual s backgrounds and beliefs can affect the process of communication, one
must utilize the different processes and components to achieve effective communication. Because
barriers block the listening process causing misunderstanding that may block the flow of information
between individuals. Therefore, this misunderstanding may blur the lines of communication utilized
within the criminal justice system.
The basic concept of communication is interaction between two or more people that results in the

The officials involved in the Omaha chase had to be able to transmit the information using the radio
about the dangers that they faced to protect the others assisting (Dorland, 2012).
Understanding, Receiving, Feedback, and Retransmitting Although, the dispatcher received the
information he or she would need to understand the fullness of the situation by giving feedback. This
feedback allows the sender transmit further information so that those on the other end of the radio will
receive and understand what is transpiring at the officials location (Dorland, 2012). In a way these five
steps became known as the basis of communication. Because the information goes through a process
that requires the information to transmit through a route that allows both the sender and the receiver to
process information until they decode the entire conversation. However, no matter how well a
communication process works the people involved will always have barriers that can block the
communication process. Because each person has his or her own backgrounds and beliefs that will
cause barriers to be overcome (Wallace Roberson, 2009).
Communication Barriers Even with the best communication process, the initial receiver s confusion of
the information received may come from the distractions around them. Therefore, one must
understand what causes these barriers and come up with a solution because

The Pros And Cons Of Irregular Warfare
The title 10 versus title 50 debate is a result of a battlefield that has evolved, and policy that has not.
The requirement for congressional oversight was emplaced in the early 80s due to accusations of
domestic spying by the CIA in an effort to protect American citizens. Now that DOD collection
methods are similar and often times indistinguishable from the intelligence community s methods,
they are crying foul because the DOD operates under title 10 authorities and does not share the same
stringent oversight.
Warfighting in today s environment often leans towards the Irregular Warfare (IW) side of the house
where Operational Preparation of the Battlefield (OPB) is required to ensure that should conventional

important factor is the daily Killer Whale presentations. The first SeaWorld park opened on March 21,
1964 in San Diego. Throughout the years, people have questioned whether SeaWorld is morally right.
In the film Blackfish (2013), former and present SeaWorld trainers, SeaWorld representatives, and
people who have experienced SeaWorld are interviewed and tell about their stories and thoughts on

Examples Of Hero s Journey In Star Wars
The movie Star Wars is the perfect example of a modern hero s journey. Luke Skywalker wanted to

Luke s journey starts when he is inside the millennium falcon with Han Solo, Chewy, Obi wan, R2
D2, and C3 P0. During this event, they soon come to see a planet, which turned out not be a planet,
but to be the Death Star. The Death Star we soon find out is the ship of Darth Vader. Han Solo tries to
turn around but it is too late. They are soon entering the Death Star. When they get inside, they hear
that Princess Leia, the woman from the video message, is trapped in a prison cell and is due to be
executed. This is one of the first obstacles for the team, because now they have to rescue Princess Leia
from her death, but it isn t as hard as they think. Luke and Han Solo come up with the idea to wear the
Storm Trooper uniforms, the uniforms of the military defense of the Death Star. Luke is able to sneak
into the cell where Leia is kept, and therefore completes his first obstacle, but there are many more to
come. After rescuing Leia, she then becomes one of his allies, and will help him later in the movie.
The next and probably the most substantial challenge that the group faces is to escape with the Death
Star with the layout of the Death Star inside of R2 D2. While trying to do this they are all being shot at
by Storm Troopers, but they were still able to escape. Well almost all of them. Obi wan Kenobi

Historical Accuracy Of Benjamin Martin In The Movie, The...
Breaking news!Benjamin Martin is fake, I repeat, Benjamin Martin is fake! You might be wondering,
who is Benjamin Martin? Well to start off, he is the main character in the movie, the Patriot. The
patriot was a movie released in 2000 that is a parody of the Revolutionary War. The patriot is
somewhat historically accurate because it portrays militia fighters, it has some hollywood differences,
and it portrays what life was like back then. In the movie, Benjamin Martin is forced to become a
Patriot when the British threaten to take his farm away. They actually burnt his house down. But
according to http://www.patriotresource.com/thepatriot/factfiction/battles/cowpens.html , historically
Benjamin Martin represents a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, if Benjamin Martin is fake, who historically really made this brilliant plan? According to
http://www.patriotresource.com/thepatriot/factfiction/battles/cowpens.html , It was Daniel Morgan s
idea at the Battle of Cowpens to use the militia as a decoy. Benjamin Martins plan for this battle was a
parody of Daniel Morgan s plan for the Battle of Cowpens. So,in conclusion Benjamin Martin s
brilliant plan was in fact an imitation of Daniel Morgan s plan. Lastly, in the movie, Colonel William
Tavington is based on Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton. In the movie, Tavington is the a British officer.
According to http://www.patriotresource.com/thepatriot/factfiction/people/tavington.html, he is the
leader of a group called the Green Dragoons because their uniform was predominantly green with red
trim, rather than the recognizable red uniform with the addition of green trim as in the movie. Also, in
the movie Tavington died in the last battle, but in history,he died at the siege of Charleston. In
conclusion, Colonel William Tavington is an imitation of Lt. Colonel Banastre

Federal Courts Case Study
In this week chapter, we learn more about Federal Courts which deals with caseloads and case filings.
Also, there are a lot of aspects that are involves in case filings in U.S Courts such as civil, criminal,
prisoner petitions, and minor criminal. Furthermore, the rule of four has been a major factor when
choosing which cases to review every year. And, I believe if we want to reduce the amounts of federal
caseloads we need to adapt to a similar approach like the one specialized federal courts use when
deciding which cases to hear. According to Neubauer Meinhold (1991), These courts are called
specialized federal court because they are authorized to hear only a limited range of cases (p. 64). The
three ways that the federal court caseloads

Racial Inequality And Gender Inequality
In today s world discrimination is a racial inequality when it come to different races in the United
states. Discrimination has been around for years and have created a social inequality , economic crises
and have lowered individuals into a group known as the racial minorities .Racial minorities can be
classified as older people , women , immigrants and young men and women. Women from the early
1600 s to today s women have been discriminated against for years. Women have never had the same
respect as men so, they had to earn respect by stepping up for their rights. Women have made it clear
in modern society, that we have the ability to perform equal skills and become success in virtually
every endeavor engaged in by men including, employment, athletes, academics and politics.Yet we
have discrimination on the basis of racial inequality which has a long history in United States
.Inequalities in the Unites States have singled out elderly people by not helping the older people be
apart of today s society meaning, we do not hire older people after a certain age because we think they
are not capable of working. We look at elderly as people to be retired, stay home, and very sickly.
Roscigno studies show some older workers are terminated just before their pensions are set to kick in
or increase. This type of firing profoundly affects older workers job security, long term financial well
being and access to health care. Social inequalities have created this particular

Psychology At The University Of Southern Mississippi
While studying psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, I developed an interest in youth
psychological health and social well being. As an avid learner, I subsequently became interested in
clinical child research and joined Dr. Christopher T. Barry s Youth Personality and Behavior (YPB)
laboratory as a volunteer research assistant during my sophomore year of college. After learning the
dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as adolescent, social,
developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal relationships, personality, and
mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my experiences in undergraduate research.
For example, I participated in my first independent research experience at the University of Illinois at
Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted
research in the clinical/community division of the psychology department, and my research focused
on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental
health service impacted the magnitude of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a
wealth of information about tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in
the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). SROP was a wonderful experience, and it
catalyzed my progress as an undergraduate researcher.
Shortly after my SROP experience, I began simultaneously

Summary Of The Marginal World By Rachel Carson

TLIT 437: Nature and Environment in American Literature
Ellen Bayer
Conversation Essay
As reading this journal the topic that has come to my attention is how a lot of these nature writers are
looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most of these shorts journals are looking
at nature for not only for what it is, but what it offers, for example in the short The Marginal World
written by Rachel Carson she portrays The Shore is an ancient world, for as long as there has been an
earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet it is a world that keeps
alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life. Each time that I enter it, I
gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings, sensing that intricate fabric of life by
which one creature is linked with another, and each with its surroundings. (481). Based off this quote,
we can see that a lot of these authors did not only see nature as something that could be touched, but
rather seen as a spiritual entity. For me I believe the title The Marginal World was clarified in the first
part of the essay by the historic war even between both surfaces the wave and the land. She viewed
both landscapes as both spiritual entities. When she talks about how the waves would always
withdrawal, but never gave up, how the boundary of the sea was indescribable, this showed us how
much Rachel Carson adored the ocean. It seemed

The Convention of a Thriller Film Essay
The Convention of a Thriller Film
It is difficult to state a clear definition of a thriller as they cross over many genres, however the single
most characteristic of a thriller is the obvious one, it thrills the audience. The plots are scary, the
characters are at great risk and the films are constructed in a manner that makes the watcher really
want to know what happens next. There is no formula for a thriller, other that that most thrillers follow
one of a few common narrative structures. For example, they may use the Todorov theory, where the
narrative structure is comprised of three main parts: order and normality, then something happens
where disorder occurs and finally equilibrium is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dependancy on dramatic music to engage the audience and build tension again stems from German
expressionism. The 1970 s saw a boom in horror films and excessive violence towards fragile , impure
women, from this women are largely the victims in thrillers, and they need support and a hero to save
them. Both thrillers and horrors have a dark undertone, with a lot of night settings as evil is
traditionally associated with darkness.
There are three main periods in the build up 2 the modern thrillers. The first is wartime, 1941 46,
where studio sets were rigid and not very realistic. The second period is post was realistic, where sets
started to move to real locations. The 1950 s and 60 s saw a boom in film Noir and modern day
thrillers are more associated with psychotic action and suicidal impulse.
On a more analytical level, the evil act in a thriller is generally percieved to be an act against the
repression of society, inflicted upon the individual. The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock is an example of
how a normal aspect of nature turns abnormal and destructive. The birds represented evryday fears of
the people, like threat of nuclear warfare, totalitarianism and automation. Frequently the evil act in a
thriller depicts the horror of what society has become, for example more violent and repressed, and
can often be said to represent a revulsion against these.

with rising sea levels. Due to these changes to Earths Climate over the next millennia Earths lands
may disappear and be taken over completely by the ocean. The human population is also constantly
increasing and we need more space to survive. What can we do to survive? Where can we go? This

There were no tree ferns or any plants at all. Venus was covered in dry desert with Volcanoes. This
planet would not be able to sustain human life.
There are a few other reasons why Venus cannot sustain human life. One of them is because of a huge
cloud that surrounds Venus. This cloud is made up of corrosive acid, which is due to the sulfur from
volcanic eruptions on Venus. The second reason is because the atmosphere pressure on Venus is also
ninety times stronger than it is on earth, which is strong enough to crush a car. The third and final
reason we would not be able to live on Venus is because the atmosphere of Venus is nearly all Carbon
Dioxide, which makes the temperatures over nine hundred degrees Fahrenheit.
The next planet the video looked at was Mars. Mars does have a chance that it may be able to sustain
human life. Mars is the one planet that most resembles planet Earth. A day on Mars is almost the same
length as a day on Earth. Mars also resembles Earth because it has deserts, mountains, and canyons.
There has also been a recent discovery of water on Mars underneath the surface. However, there are
disadvantages to Mars. Mars has no magnetic field, so therefore solar radiation can get to the surface.
Radiation is a huge problem for trying to sustain life on Mars; it will kill people and destroy their
DNA. Currently, Scientists are

World War 1 ended when Germany officially surrendered on November 11, 1918. All nations agreed

officially ending World War 1. In this essay, we will focus on the treaty of Versailles.
The peace treaties of 1919 1923 were unfair, especially the treaty of Versailles. This happened because
it angered the Germans. The following reasons why it angered the Germans is that it felt unfair. They
hated clause 231, which blamed them for full responsibility of the war, even though the allies also
caused the war. Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia, and Serbia was allies with France and
Russia. Germany lost one tenth of their land, which was important

The Mission Movie Analysis
The movie The Mission brought to light many of the issues that the developing world has faced in the
past and continues to face today. The indigenous people of Paraguay and Southern Brazil, the Guarani,
faced terrifying encounters with the powerful European colonizers during the period of European
colonialism. Many innocent people on both sides of the battle lost their lives. The Jesuits were a
Christian missionary group that brought the Good News of Jesus Christ, all the while helping to
defend the indigenous people by respecting their culture and human dignity, also referred to as
inculturation . The Jesuit presence paved the way for later ideas such as liberation theology and the
post colonial theory. The Commonweal article, What We Can and Cannot Fix: Rewatching The
Mission prompts viewers to reassess the film and notice other possible issues that were related to the
Jesuit s presence.
The Jesuits had a huge presence during the brutal attacks that occurred between the European
colonists and the Guarani. The Jesuits always sided with the indigenous people and worked to protect
their safety and human dignity. However, the main goal of the missionary enterprise as stated by Fr.
Gabriel, the leader of the Jesuits, was to make Christians out of these people. At first, this statement
appears to be a genuine act of kindness attempting o present the Jesuit Christian faith to the Guarani to
show them the love and hope that their God could provide to them. However, the

Algonquin Myth Of Michabo Analysis
When you hear the word myth , your immediate intellect may go to a story that is fake or made up .
While that is partially true, myths are generally traditional tales that primarily revolve around specific
people and religious beliefs. The most prevailing myths that orbit around today s standards are
creation myths. Basically, they are theories about how humanity emerged and how the world was
created. As I read Greek Creation and The Algonquin Myth of Michabo , I perceived that they are both
obviously very distinctive from each other, but in a way they share the same idea or interpretation
about how the world and humanity was formed. When analyzing both of the text, I realized that the

Roles Of Women In The Arabian Nights
Bryanna Samuels Dr. Collins Western Heritage 105 01 11 19 2017 The Arabian Nights Men have
always been and most likely are the leaders of their families. Men are always supposed to be strong
and fend for themselves, and always take care of the women and the children. In this case though,
things are rather switched around. In the Arabian Nights, women play a very empowering role. It
seems that in most cases the women are equal to the men and play the same roles as the men in
Arabian Nights. The stories in Arabian Nights give a different insight as to what was going on during
this time. The women were not valued as much as they should have been, they were often punished
for not being as womanly as the man would like them to be. In the stories of The Arabian nights the
men believe that they have the authority of two women personalities, this being their wives . The first

How The Apollonian Contrasts With The Dionysian
Nietzsche has a different outlook on the world. In World of Ideas, by Lee A. Jacobus, it says;
Nietzsche s task was to explain the polarities, their form of expression, and their effect. (pg. 643)
What is the they you ask? Well, Jacobus says; The Apollonian contrasts with the Dionysian, the Greek
with the barbarian, the dream with the illusion. (pg. 643) There are many more examples, but I will
spare you the long list. An Apollonian is a relation to the rational, ordered, and self disciplined aspects
of human nature. A Dionysian is a relation to the sensual, spontaneous, and emotional aspects of
human nature. This evaluation will compare how the two interpret today s music, cinematics, and art.
First, Apollonians and Dionysians hear music in different ways. Apollonians are classical in the

An Apollonian would rather watch a play; a live theatre performance. They find it much more awe

hand, likes movies more. They don t care how many outtakes it had, they want more. The symbolism,
the story, the computer generated images, how a script can be brought to life. They don t care how,
they care how soon. Third, and final, there is a difference in how Apollonians and Dionysians perceive
art. Now, art is hard to understand, and can take many shapes and forms. Apollonians like the simpler
art, the ones that are easy to understand and look at. If you were to give them a single picture that

Different Governments And Investors Reaction
5. Governments and Investors Reaction
5.1 New Circuit Breaker rule
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved a new, six month circuit breaker rule,
which is also known as limit up/ limit down. It stated that the exchanges would pause if the trading in
a stock declines more than 10 percent in any five minute interval. This reaction has changed previous
circuit breaker rule. According to Bob Pisani, the writer of Flash Crash 5 years later: What have we
learned? published on CNBC on May 5, 2015, claimed five years ago, each exchange had its own rule
that governed when individual stocks would be halted for sudden volatility. But this rule is confusing
and now it has been eliminated. The new consistent system wide circuit breakers rule is for all
individual stocks, and other revised market wide circuit breakers that will kick in when the S P 500
drops 7 percent or more during the trading day.
5.2 Erroneous trade breaking rules
The SEC has previously approved the Clearly Erroneous Pilot program, which identified new rule
following the flash crash outlining when an erroneous trade would be broken, said Deborah L. Jacobs,
the writer of Why we could easily have another flash crash. This erroneous trade rules clarified the
time and the price of completed trades, which will be reversed or broken by the exchanges and
FINRA. This purpose of the rule is to make a certainty to reduce the market panic likelihood and
capital flight if computer glitches.

Q1. Describe Dennis s health as an adult living in London. Use an example to support your answer.
The physical aspect of Dennis s health is extremely poor, his cardiovascular health capability is shown
to be very weak and this can be seen in numerous scenes but, particularly the scene where he is a
chasing a shoplifter, he is extremely tired and cannot run for more than 30 seconds without having

poor physical health, this can also be seen by his weight in the movie
Mentally, Dennis is not in health either. He struggles with anxiety and sadness, maybe even

Now, coming out with this definition in our minds, we begin to grasp some knowledge about the
reality about Eschatology, especially the way we can bring down the meaning of this word in the
context that we live and adapt to in our community. However, we must have in mind that we must see
death differently as Kubler Ross explained;
The problem of death is a universal human question. But the answer to that question differs among
cultures. In addition to different ways of dealing with those members of the culture who are dying,
different human societies have also offered a variety of explanations for the phenomenon of death and
its meaning for human existence.
As Christian we can see that all these words correlate with each other as we now look into our
traditional belief to Eschatology and the way we interpret them accordingly.

Islands in the Solomon have one thing in common and that is life after death. This means, they believe
people go to certain places within their Islands when they die. In Isabel, especially people in Bugotu,

today people hold on to this belief, however because of the influences that the church ponders upon
this belief, it started to fade away from people s mentality.

Sir Gawain the Green Knight, a tale about the arrival of a strange green knight at the christmas dinner

those standing there gazed, and warily crept closer... so the folk there judeged it phantasm or magic...

explanation they can give is that he must be somekind of apparation. His ghostly figure seems to arrest
all the attendees, for they fear his supernatural presence. The Green Knight challenges King, Arthur, to

have gotten hurt too. The shark still has him and he s fighting to get away. It takes only a few seconds
for me to swim close enough to see the shark s dark eye. I don t think, just punch any part of the fish
that I can, (Sedgwick 218). This shows eros love, love that is more than friendship and/or love of
dating relationships and marriage. Oakley did not care about what could have happened to her, she put
her life on the line to save Carson. Friends would probably not do that, only someone that you really

Forest Inc Case Study
Gareth Davies is a forest ecologist at the Forestry School in Fredericton, New Brunswick, he has been
in the forest industry for over 20 years. He recently stated that there are three main categories of land
in Canada, the vast majority is provincial land, next there are lesser pieces of land that are forest
research centers, and national parks. and the rest of the land belongs to First Nation communities.
According to Davies, ⅔ of the land in the province of New Brunswick is owned by the public, and the
remaining ⅓ is privatized. Only a microscopic 5% of the public forest in New Brunswick is protected
from thinning and/or herbicide treatment, sadly, the rest is open for spraying. Moreover, this is the
reason behind the clear cut location that was visited in Minto and the plantation location that was
visited at the UNB woodlot being heavily packed full with needle trees the areas were being sprayed
to rid the area of the broad leaf trees, this is especially costly, also. The companies, for example JDI
Irving, would be granted a 20 year lease for cutting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One specie planting is typical on any plantation, with the spruce species being the most popular.
Davies expressed that historically spruce has held more value in the wood harvesting industry. The
mono planting method is the main reason behind the plantation that was visited being mostly single
species, all of the trees looked of similar height and width and color this is very unlike any natural
forest. A natural forest should have a wide array of species that wouldn t necessarily be there
otherwise. Davies stated that once a natural forest gets so old, it becomes more structurally diverse,
but the industries insist of keeping forest under 60 years of age. The mass deforestation seems to be
inevitably leading to loss of tree cover everywhere around the world, especially in New

The Cartagena Protocol is a worldwide agreement that aims for ensuring safe food handlers and
transporting LMO s, (Living Modified Organisms) from place to place. The World Health

Al Assad s Conflicting Interest On Syria
Bashar Al Assad s Conflicting Interest in Syria Syria is a country located in the Middle East that is
neighbored by Turkey and Iraq. The leader of Syria, Bashar Al Assad, has been the president of Syria
for 16 years and counting. From the looks of it, he has no intent of backing down his power either.
Syria has been led by Assad s family for many of years; Bashar Al Assad s father, Hafez Al Assad, was
Syria s leader from 1971 and died in office in the year 2000. It was then, when Bashar Al Assad took
over office as President of Syria in 2000 and has kept office to present day. Bashar Al Assad has been
to blame for the devastation of his own country, Syria, and his people. Actions should be taken place
in order to rehabilitate Syria from Bashar Al Assad and his actions against the people of Syria and
other countries. Bashar Al Assad caused the downfall of Syria by abusing his power to start conflict
with his people and other countries, which could possibly be resolved in many ways. Syria has
undergone very tragic situations such as, an ongoing civil war since 2011 that is still active today. This
civil war was caused mostly by the actions of Syria s current president Bashar Al Assad. When
protesters in Syria demanded long overdue reforms in the political system, President Assad saw this as
an illegal revolutionary effort to overthrow Syria and its citizens (Carter). Assad felt that what he was
doing was legitimate and the Syrian citizens were wrong which therefore

  • 2. Age of Doubt In Europe in the 16th Century In the 16th Century, Europeans had their faith shattered and were forced to realize that there was doubt in what they believed in. From the countless wars being fought in the name of religion, to the once great and wealthy countries that needed to reaffirm their place in the world, all that they had once taken for granted was suddenly cast into doubt (446). Europeans were desperately searching for new foundations to put their faith in in the face of intellectual, religious, and political challenges (446). This period is an example of the expression Age of Doubt, Age of Uncertainty . The wars going on throughout Europe through this era were claiming territories through conquest, marriage alliances, or inheritance agreements on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the help of alliances William the Silent made with France, Germany, and England, the Netherlands was divided up with Calvinism practiced in the north and Catholicism in the Spanish controlled South (432 433). Between 1618 and 1648, Cardinal Richelieu led the Thirty Years War against the Huguenots, with France against Austrian and Spain and with Germany getting the brunt of the casualties (434 437). An example of the viciousness of the attacks were described by author Hans Jakob Christoph von Grimmelshausen in his fictional memoir Siplicissimus (the Simpleton), where he illustrated how each had his own device to torture the peasants, and each peasant had several tortures (435). This ended with the signing of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, which left France in a powerful position in Europe, Germany and Austria losing not only in casualties but in the power structure of Europe, and Europe as a checkerboard of Protestant and Catholic principalities (437). The price revolution in Europe was another contributing factor giving Europeans cause for concern. Europe s population grew after the Black Plague, yet the growth of food remained constant, which led to higher food prices for the large demand. While the price of food increased, the rate of wages did not match the increase. Additional factors was the surplus of bullions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States had to justify the 1991 and 2003 invasion of Iraq. In both cases the United States used Iraq s history of human rights abuses under President Saddam Hussein. In his speech President Bush stated, (1990) First, we seek the immediate, unconditional, and complete withdrawal of all Iraqi forces from Kuwait. Deception is used throughout the play by Iago, however it is not the driving force as said by Alyssa Brown. Othello has the fairly typical theme of deception. Self deception is also a theme (Alyssa Brown, Brown/A/Deception). Deception does not exist in the play. The characters have no freewill and cannot be deceived. This play uses deception wrong according to Shakespeare. Usually, Shakespeare uses deception to a positive end of the players. When used in tragedies, Romeo and Juliet use deception to further their love, although it does ultimately end with their deaths, it ends with the Montague and Capulet families coming together. Critique Of The Defense Of Cover Songs Critique for In Defense of Cover Songs There is a belief in today s society snowballing from the past that a cover song is merely a copy or rip off of the original. Cusic s other accomplishments and credibility come from being a historian of country music, a scholar and writer known worldwide, and an author of over 209 books and 500 articles (Belmont University). He then goes on to explain how fans and critics feel the need for a song to be legitimate and that if a singer doesn t create his or her own song they are seen as an invalid artist. However, Cusic asserts that fans and critics do not care for the artist s reason for creating the song, and that the audience s connection to the song is the reason why it is even purchased or seen as real music. Cusic affirms that singers who create cover songs are not any less legitimate compared to artists who create original music and that singers have their own way of describing what a song means to them. Next, he brings up the fact that a new audience can benefit a song, that history plays a major role in the belief of cover songs and that the boundary between songwriters and singers are meant to be respected. He explains that if an original song is covered, it receives the benefit of a new audience learning about the history of the original song. This strengthens his assertion that, Many times a cover is a history lesson for a new, young audience who never heard the original (174). In the book Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass written by himself, Douglass writes about his experiences as a slave in the 1800 s. In the beginning of the book, he explains that he does not know his age because most slaves are not allowed to know their age. Douglass recalls the memory of his aunt getting tied and whipped until she was covered in blood at a very young age. He reveals to us that slaves only get extremely limited allowances throughout a year. Children barely get any clothing to wear, while all of them just get barely enough food to survive, He also says that slaves have to lie half the time to avoid getting whipped and beaten. This book gives us a real insight on how bad slavery was, how Douglass coped with it, and eventually how he escapes from it later in the book. Douglass uses persuasive language to show the true colors of slavery, and he uses his own experiences of being a slave himself to his advantage by giving us accounts of his life as a slave. In this essay, I want to focus on the truth, why slaves have to lie their way out of certain situations, and go more in depth of how Douglass language is highly persuasive to the abolitionists of that time. I want to focus on one specific part in this essay, a part that is very descriptive, persuasive, and analyze deep into the text. After learning the dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as adolescent, social, developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal relationships, personality, and mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my experiences in undergraduate research. For example, I participated in my first independent research experience at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted research in the clinical/community division of the psychology department, and my research focused on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental health service impacted the magnitude of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a wealth of information about tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). SROP was a wonderful experience, and it catalyzed my progress as an undergraduate researcher. Shortly after my SROP experience, I began simultaneously ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Summary Of The Marginal World By Rachel Carson Andrew Han 10/24/2015 TLIT 437: Nature and Environment in American Literature Ellen Bayer Conversation Essay As reading this journal the topic that has come to my attention is how a lot of these nature writers are looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most of these shorts journals are looking at nature for not only for what it is, but what it offers, for example in the short The Marginal World written by Rachel Carson she portrays The Shore is an ancient world, for as long as there has been an earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet it is a world that keeps alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life. Each time that I enter it, I gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings, sensing that intricate fabric of life by which one creature is linked with another, and each with its surroundings. (481). Based off this quote, we can see that a lot of these authors did not only see nature as something that could be touched, but rather seen as a spiritual entity. For me I believe the title The Marginal World was clarified in the first part of the essay by the historic war even between both surfaces the wave and the land. She viewed both landscapes as both spiritual entities. When she talks about how the waves would always withdrawal, but never gave up, how the boundary of the sea was indescribable, this showed us how much Rachel Carson adored the ocean. It seemed ... • 25. The Convention of a Thriller Film Essay The Convention of a Thriller Film It is difficult to state a clear definition of a thriller as they cross over many genres, however the single most characteristic of a thriller is the obvious one, it thrills the audience. The plots are scary, the characters are at great risk and the films are constructed in a manner that makes the watcher really want to know what happens next. There is no formula for a thriller, other that that most thrillers follow one of a few common narrative structures. For example, they may use the Todorov theory, where the narrative structure is comprised of three main parts: order and normality, then something happens where disorder occurs and finally equilibrium is ... The 1970 s saw a boom in horror films and excessive violence towards fragile , impure women, from this women are largely the victims in thrillers, and they need support and a hero to save them. Both thrillers and horrors have a dark undertone, with a lot of night settings as evil is traditionally associated with darkness. There are three main periods in the build up 2 the modern thrillers. The first is wartime, 1941 46, where studio sets were rigid and not very realistic. The second period is post was realistic, where sets started to move to real locations. The 1950 s and 60 s saw a boom in film Noir and modern day thrillers are more associated with psychotic action and suicidal impulse. On a more analytical level, the evil act in a thriller is generally percieved to be an act against the repression of society, inflicted upon the individual. The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock is an example of how a normal aspect of nature turns abnormal and destructive. The birds represented evryday fears of the people, like threat of nuclear warfare, totalitarianism and automation. Frequently the evil act in a thriller depicts the horror of what society has become, for example more violent and repressed, and can often be said to represent a revulsion against these. This cloud is made up of corrosive acid, which is due to the sulfur from volcanic eruptions on Venus. The second reason is because the atmosphere pressure on Venus is also ninety times stronger than it is on earth, which is strong enough to crush a car. The third and final reason we would not be able to live on Venus is because the atmosphere of Venus is nearly all Carbon Dioxide, which makes the temperatures over nine hundred degrees Fahrenheit. • 30. The Mission Movie Analysis The movie The Mission brought to light many of the issues that the developing world has faced in the past and continues to face today. The indigenous people of Paraguay and Southern Brazil, the Guarani, faced terrifying encounters with the powerful European colonizers during the period of European colonialism. Many innocent people on both sides of the battle lost their lives. The Jesuits were a Christian missionary group that brought the Good News of Jesus Christ, all the while helping to defend the indigenous people by respecting their culture and human dignity, also referred to as inculturation . The Jesuit presence paved the way for later ideas such as liberation theology and the post colonial theory. The Commonweal article, What We Can and Cannot Fix: Rewatching The Mission prompts viewers to reassess the film and notice other possible issues that were related to the Jesuit s presence. The Jesuits had a huge presence during the brutal attacks that occurred between the European colonists and the Guarani. The Jesuits always sided with the indigenous people and worked to protect their safety and human dignity. However, the main goal of the missionary enterprise as stated by Fr. Gabriel, the leader of the Jesuits, was to make Christians out of these people. Men are always supposed to be strong and fend for themselves, and always take care of the women and the children. In this case though, things are rather switched around. In the Arabian Nights, women play a very empowering role. It seems that in most cases the women are equal to the men and play the same roles as the men in Arabian Nights. The stories in Arabian Nights give a different insight as to what was going on during this time. The women were not valued as much as they should have been, they were often punished for not being as womanly as the man would like them to be. An Apollonian is a relation to the rational, ordered, and self disciplined aspects of human nature. A Dionysian is a relation to the sensual, spontaneous, and emotional aspects of human nature.
