2. Why Do Sub-Saharan African Countries Fail
4.In general, the reason of high levels of poverty in Sub Saharan according to Jeffrey Sachs is that
unlike countries in Asia, African countries failed to get onto the ladder of development which
means exporting manufactures and services in world markets, and linked to the world in the
networks of production, trade, finance, and technology. There are two main reasons why Sub
Saharan African countries fail to get into globalization. Firstly, the corruption and mismanagement
of its leaders. Corruption is probably the most understandable reason for lack of development in
this region. Take Zimbabwe for example, Zimbabwe is considered one of the most corrupt nations
in the world, ranking 163rd out of 176 countries on the latest Transparency International

3. The Role Of Violence In The Phantom Of The Opera
The Acts Of Love.
When asked what love is, what would you say? Well the simple answer to this is complete
silence. It is a feeling that only one in love can answer to themselves, without words. A prime
example of this would be the phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, throughout the book Erick
commits many acts of violence such as threatening the Prima Donna , cutting the wires so the
chandelier may fall upon the new care taker of box 5, writing threats to the managers, and fighting
Raol. One may question if his acts of violence are committed solely for Christine, the women he
loves and to protect his world of anonymity from falling apart. Is this really true? Can all of the
Phantom s actions just be his way of protecting everything he holds ... Show more content on

Furthermore, Dr. John L Flynn may believe the Phantom acts may have been to protect his
world and for his true love and to protect his world. However, many scholars may belive that he
committed such acts for his own personal gain due to the fact that he was obsessed with
Christine not in love with her because she was the first person to show him compassion, love,
and friendship. Shown through various chapters ,Christine matures into a young beautiful
sexual female, Erick begins to desire her and fantasize over her ;filling his underground lair with
sketches of her, different scenes of her signing in the opera house, and a wax figure of her in a
wedding dress. Therefore, these different scences throughout the book may support the claim
that Erick does not really love Christine but is obsessed with her out of the fear of being lonely
and isolated from the world one more. Can Erick having never having been love or been in love
can really reciprocate such feelings? However, such claims are rebutted by his acts in the final
chapters letting Christen go and giving her the gift of freedom. Making the saying if you love
someone , you let them go. In conclusion, Erick does love Christine and his acts are due to his love
for Christine and we learn that the phantom does have a human heart that

The best way to understand abnormal behavior is through disorders because of the diagnostic

treatment can be tailored to a specific patient. The main one that we examined in class was the
psychological method in which a psychologist tries to work with a patient to discover the mental

The coach of a senior football club is a leader of men and can be an intimidating figure to
younger players. They are stuck with a challenge of motivating 20 odd people each week, keeping
it fresh and coming up with different ways to motivate players can be difficult. As the head coach
they will know which players can motivate themselves and don t need any extra treatment to get
them going. Where as others may need a bit more extra motivationto get them focused on the job at

6. The Influence Of The Roman Colosseum
Roman architecture has influenced our modern day society in many ways. One of the ways is by
the construction of the Roman Colosseum in 72 A.D. The Roman Colosseum was the first major
stadium or amphitheater to ever be built. Without the planning, construction, and techniques used
for Roman Colosseum, we would not have some of the famous stadiums and amphitheaters that
exist today.
The Yankee Stadium and Staples Center are both examples of stadiums that were well influenced
by the Roman Colosseum. Many similar techniques were used to build the Colosseum, and were
also used in the making of these two stadiums. An example of a technique that was used during
the building of the Colosseum is the architectural design of the arches that are in the Great Hall
of the Yankee Stadium. They were built from a series of stone blocks that were placed in a
certain way to hold them together in the shape of an arch. Another example of important idea that
the Romans developed, and used often was organized labor. Organized labor was useful because
it was a way of sorting all the workers and their skills into the appropriate and corresponding jobs.
It also provided a working system including receiving breaks, lunches and some set work hours
along with medical care for when it was needed. Many other different techniques that the Romans
created were used in the making of other famous stadiums and amphitheaters and continue to be
used today. The Roman Colosseum was the first major stadium ever

Abstract The Tuskegee syphilis experiment was an infamous clinical study conducted between

they were receiving free health care from the U.S government; about four hundred African

From the Tuskegee University, it s stated that the doctors and researches used the excuse of bad

Many people argue that the process of globalization has contributed to a metaphorical flattening of

we have come to live in a global village society in which is close to the destruction of spatial
differentiation and thus, the study of geography. The idea is that our differences are declining and
our culture is homogenizing. However, this belief relies on the assumption that modern

11. The Fashion Of Elie Saab ( Es )
Introduction
In a world which seems to be shrinking continuously due to the emergence of globalization,
individuals seek new ways to differentiate themselves from those in their societies either by music,
art and most of all fashion. Elie Saab(ES), a Lebanese fashion house established in Beirut has
found a way to cater to the many cravings of individuals by creating and selling luxury fashion to
the elites of the world.
Beirut born owner and chairman Elie Saab first picked up an interest in fashion at the tender age
of nine, making dresses for his sisters using his mother s tablecloths as fabric. In 2010, Saab s
workforce had grown from 10 employees in his first workshop in Beirut to about 150 working in
different locations such as Paris and London. ES was well known for its Haute Couture works
which are exclusive, one of a kind evening dresses and wedding gowns.
In a bid to grow the brand, Saab sought to diversify its portfolio by partnering with various ventures
which signified and embodied the luxury lifestyle on which it had built its brand upon. ES signed
partnership contracts with various companies for the construction of luxury Yachts, exclusive
hotels and luxury fragrances. Notwithstanding the company s many partnerships and ventures, ES s
core business was fashion which had been its bread and butter. ES began primarily with Haute
Couture which is a fancy name for specially made garments using high quality materials to suit the

12. Industrial Farm Animal Production ( Ifap )
Industrial Farm Animal Production
Introduction
Industrial farm animal production (IFAP) is a recent development in the history of agriculture. This
essay outlines benefits of and criticisms against IFAP, and attempts to analyse this system of
production against the framework of Marxist theory.
For thousands of years, domestic animals use as meat was secondary to their exploitation for
renewable purposes such as milk, wool, traction, riding, and pack transport. These other purposes
were prioritised until an animal reached the end of its useful life.
Agricultural innovations in the late 19th century paralleled developments in mass production in
other industries. The discovery and development of vitamin supplements in the early 20th century
allowed farmers to raise chicken indoors, and the use of antibiotics and vaccines reduced disease,
allowing livestock to be raised in larger numbers. Chemicals developed for use in World War II
gave rise to synthetic pesticides, and developments in shipping networks made the distributing
agricultural produce over long distances possible.
Global agricultural production doubled four times between 1820 and 1975. Intensification of
animal production was seen as a way of providing food security and better nutrition. Pigs and cows
began to be raised on factory farms in 1960s North America. Production shifted from the traditional
model of extensive decentralised family farms to a more concentrated system of fewer producers
and much larger

military advisors to South Vietnam. America stepped in when North Vietnam began to take over
South Vietnam. We stepped in to help South Vietnam because they are our allies and they couldn t
take on North Vietnam alone. This action taken by the United Statesgovernment to step in created
many problems within our own country. When the war began many Americans believed that
defending South Vietnam from Communist aggression was in the national interest. When
operation Rolling Thunder began in 1965, only 15% of Americans opposed getting involved in
the war. If America wouldn t show its loyalty to its allies it would look bad on America. Also if
we didn t put our foot to communism when we did, who would? Communism would ve spread all
over the world if we didn t contain it while we still could. Americans fear the domino theory which

Although, husband abuse is common, it does not receive the attention it deserves. Subsequently,
it is not perceived as serious let alone problematic in our society. In many cases, husband abuse
is not taken seriously due to the higher rates and awareness of abused wives. While there are
many resilient organizations in support of battered women, there is scarcely any funding or

(Steinmetz, 500) From the earlier stages of childhood, while all children are taught to keep their
hands to themselves, it mostly applied to boys. Perhaps this could have been because of the
assumption that boys in general could do more damage than girls. As a result, some men may feel
pressured to accept this universal image of what a real man should be like. This portrayal is
displayed in many different forms by society whether people notice it or not. With that being said,
most battered husbands along with the rest of society have bought into the subconscious images of
men always being domineering. Suzanne Steinmetz supports this notion by stating that ... the
contention that women are socialized for greater impulse controls appears to have little support.
(Steinmetz, 504) In addition to the pressure some battered husbands experience to conduct
themselves a certain way, battered husbands may have to take on the extra trauma of
humiliation.(Steinmetz, 501) Thus, the fear of feeling powerless and belittled prevents many
victims of husband abuse from being open about their experiences.
Although spousal violence towards men is not as predominant as it is towards women, many
accept to be true that husband abuse does not really exist. While some are blinded by ignorance
others are simply just unaware of it. This is partly due to the lack of research accessible for others.

but that changed when financialization and globalization influenced the larger firms, for example,
Fiat, to extract long term and innovative ventures from this country (Borioni, 2011).
Organized crime and corruption are substantial impairments to both investments and financial
growth, which has an estimated 60 billion dollars squandered yearly in unused public resources.
Transnational organized crime has manifested because of globalization and the increasing financial
interdependence, which have been the placated and steadying influences that have encouraged
crime across the borders, places, individuals, and identifiable victims (Massari, 2001).
Organized crime started in Sicily when the Sicilians came together to protect themselves and
perform their own impartiality, had no criminal implications, but was represented as an individual
who was suspicious of dominant authority (Origins of the Mafia, 2009). Some of these groups
transpired as private armies, or mafie and these groups extorted money from landowners for
protection and in turn emerged as the Sicilian Mafia. As the unseasoned government in Italy was
attempting to inaugurate itself in 1861, the crime controlled the country and by 1870 Roman
officials propositioned the Sicilian Mafia to assist them by going after threatening, individual

creating new product, he does not faces any risk of failure of generating revenue and profit by

Linguistic Distance can be termed as the distance between two languages. In other words it is the
measure of difficulty faced by the individuals of two different languages in learning and
reproducing the language of their counterparts. Linguistic Distance impacts the bilateral relations
between two nations. According to the Gravitational formula for Trade, the trade between two
countries is inversely proportional to the distance between them. Here distance can be either

This concept is known as inter language linguistic distance and intra language linguistic distance.
The inter language linguistic distance itself poses a great difficulty in enhancing the relations
among the people. The intra language linguistic distance further complicate the scenario.
The presence of dialects for every language further catalyze the effect of linguistic distance.
Dialectical distance within the language deters the individuals from understanding the same
language. For a machine to understand the dialects within the languages and to respond accordingly
is nearly impossible but for the speech recognition systems. The speech recognition systems are so
trained to differentiate between every single voice based on the pitch, tone and intonation. It is the
sounds made by the individual that more matters to the system than the language used.
In one distinctive method, the languages are all categorized based on their sounds and fed to the

responds accordingly. However, the method could not yield necessary results as the sounds do not

18. Analysis Of Unwind
Unwind Message
Many people will go through experiences in their lives where they feel like they are changing. It is
as if life has dealt them enough experiences that their personalities have been altered because of it.
Unwind by Neal Shusterman shows how the past experiences people go through may dictate who
they become and the decisions they may make in the future through the lives of Roland, Admiral
Dunfee, and Lev.
Throughout the novel, Roland is portrayed as an aggressive young man who has the desire to fight
anyone who gets in his way. Yet as the readers soon discover, he is a young man with a very
troubled past. Roland s past shapes who he becomes today in that he is very distrusting of women
due to the experiences he has gone through. As Connor finds out in the basement of the antique
shop, Roland s mother essentially abandoned him for her husband. As the novel states, That s not
what did him in, though. Roland had beaten up his stepfather for beating his mom. The mother
took her husband s side, and the stepfather got off with a warning. Roland, on the other hand, was
sent to be unwound (Schusterman 99). After Roland s mother abandoned him for his stepfather,
he began to fight other individuals in order to gain power. Another example of Roland s distrust
for women comes at the very end of the novel when he is being unwound and he is recalling
memories from his past. Roland recalls, When I was three, I had a babysitter. She was beautiful.
She shook my sister. Real hard. My sister got wrong. Never got right again. Beautiful is dangerous.
Better get them first (Schusterman 293). After this experience, Roland is likely to never trust
women, or other beautiful people, again. For him to experience both his mother s abandonment and
his sister s injuries at the hand of the babysitter, Roland chooses not to trust women again, resulting
in his poor treatment of Risa, and the other females he comes in contact with.
Admiral Dunfee, similarly, is affected by his past. When the novel first introduces the Admiral, he
is portrayed as a cold hearted dictator in charge of hundreds of Unwinds, but there is a reason the
Admiral comes off as distant. When the Unwinds first arrive at The Graveyard, they are expected to

Giovanni in his room can hear the water gurgling in Dr. Rappaccini s garden, from an ancient
marble fountain located in the center of the plants and bushes; of particular interest to Giovanni
is one shrub in particular, set in a marble vase in the midst of the pool, that bore a profusion of
purple blossoms, each of which had the lustre and richness of a gem. As striking as the plant of
the purple gems is a tall, emaciated, sallow, and sickly looking man, dressed in a scholar s garb of
black, who is busy in the garden, scientifically examining the plants in a detached and cautious
manner as if walking among malignant influences, such as savage beasts, or deadly snakes, or evil
spirits.

23. Small Group Reflection
In the summer of 2013, I participated in the Calvin College Entrada Scholar program, a four week
intensive program for racial ethnic minority high school students to experience college learning and
living while earning college credit. Creating an international community was a huge theme in this
program, students were not allowed to have their computers, games, nor be on their phones.
Another way that the program encouraged community was with small group devotion with students
floormates and designated floor RA.
I remember one week, the theme within the small groups was sharing our narratives. My small
group consisted of a total of nine female students and our RA. Our discussion lasted about 2 hours
that night mainly because our RA established a safe and open environment, she was someone we
loved and trusted within a short time of knowing her.
The small group narrative used a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our small group was the definition of people that are often marginalized, minority women. I am
not saying that we were not empowered, being in that group alone after hearing everyone
struggles was empowering. However, after our discussion there was no direction to where to go
from there, after opening up. I personally could not look at others the same way after hearing their
stories. A solution would had been a follow up small group discussion before departing from the
program, but with only small group meetings once a week it is difficult to implement this idea. In
addition, I understand that our RA did not have training in social work, mentoring, or psychology,
she was a Speech Path major. In the small group the most we could do was sympathize with each
other, but not truly lift them up and congratulated them in overcoming their hardships and help
them decide their next step after this

24. The Great Reform Act 1832
The main issue is one that affected most of Society in the early 20th century. The main issue
stemmed from outcry at The Great Reform Act 1832 which was introduced to amend the
representation of the people in England and Wales. Before the 1832 Reform Act most men and
all women did not have the vote. This act created a wider franchise but used the term male
person , specifically excluding women. Alternative acts helped to enfranchise new sections of
society and gave most men the vote, leaving sex the principal ground for disqualification. As a
result, debates about fitness for citizenship and the vote, which had previously centred around
wealth, property ownership and education, now revolved around questions of gender. It was that
women, did not have the right to vote for the men that were in power creating laws and such
which they had to follow. The laws and aspects of society which they were made to follow
without any say in the creation of them were things such as taxes. Women were denied the vote for
many reasons, most being justified by men. Most men and some women at the time, against
women gaining the vote believed in Conservatism, they thought that the way the laws were, had
been the same for many years, and they saw no need to change something that worked for the
benefit of all those in society at the time. it was also a widespread belief that women should remain
in the home and take care of their natural duties , such as cleaning, cooking, etc. Women at

The year is 1957 and the USSR has just launched the first artificial earth satellite. In response
America launches the Advanced Research Projects
Agency (ARPA) within the Department of Defense (DOD) to create America s lead in science and
technology. The Internet had its humble beginnings here, within ARPA s many projects.
The Internet has become one of the key symbols of today s pop culture: everything has a dot com

The final problem that ARPAnet came across was the fact that most computers did not run exactly
the same hardware or software as another. Their solution to this was to build smaller computers
(called Interface Message
Processors or IMPs) that were in direct contact with the main computer and also in connection with
the other IMPs on the network. All of the IMPs were built to the same specifications so that one
could easily communicate with the other5.
In 1968 all three of these developments were put into action when ARPA sent out proposals and
requests for contractors. Bolt, Beranek, and Newman,
Inc. (BBN) were awarded the contract to build the IMPs, University of California,
Los Angeles (UCLA) was awarded the Network Measurement Center contract, and the Network

26. Advantages Of Anti Dynasty In The Philippines
There is political dynasty when members of the same family or clan has dominated or occupied
elected positions either in sequence for the same position, or simultaneously across different
positions, this is now a problem in Philippine politics that the government itself cannot solve.
Why? Because majority of the people seated in position are members of political dynasties. They
want to stay in office because of the strong desire for power, greed, and authority. But why are
they still seated even though we have the power to vote? When almost all of us are aware that
they come from the same dynasty? We cannot blame the Filipino people for that. Because these
people are so greedy that they use their money, influence, and wealth to exploit our votes. In that
way, they will dominate politics. I would try to lay down some reasons why I am in favor of

come to a stop. First, it is unconstitutional. According to Article II Section 26 of the 1987
Constitution:The State shall guarantee equal access to opportunities for public service, and
prohibit political dynasties as may be defined by law. With this we can understand that political
dynasty should not be tolerated because it is a crime, it does not abide the Law of the land. With
political dynasties existing, equal access to opportunities has been deprived from those who have

the economy was coming out of a severe recession after 1982 and it exploded shortly thereafter.
It seemed out of nowhere, people were getting rich by investing in the stock market. The 80 s
was the decade of the corporate raiders. Powerful, money hungry investors would buy companies
when their values were on the line and dismantle them, selling off the assets piece by piece and
becoming filthy rich off of it. Clearly, these investors had to have had the education and long

Wall Street has been touted as one of the most accurate portrayals of Wall Street culture and
recently spawned a sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. The character of Gordon Gekko
and his obsession with greed is still prevalent today, especially during the fall of Lehman

executives in general were referred to as being the Gordon Gekkos of our generation. Most news
coverage regarding government intervention in the economy has been about Wall Street

left open to interpretation, but the most popular being that Bret Easton Ellis was commenting on
morality within society and its obsession with vanity and greed. Wall Street is a much more
straightforward text which shows the deep roots of greed in the business world. Oliver Stone

Patrick Bateman). One of the big controversies over American Psycho was how Bateman

Naturally, women are nurturers and will put others before themselves and for this reason it is a

main character finds herself asking this question frequently. The story follows a young woman
suffering from post partum depression and is placed on rest cure by her husband. Gilman uses her

32. Analysis Of The Poem The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong...
The Unescapable Net:
Tradition vs Transformation in Kingston s Ideology The Woman Warrior, written by Chinese
American author Maxine Hong Kingston in 1976, blends traditional Chinese folktales and memoir,
and portrays the early 20th century Chinese history in a Chinese American perspective. For Maxine,
it seems Chinese history means social and cultural constrains from conventional Chinese doctrines,
especially regarding the social status of womanhood, the blind collectivism, and superstition in old
China. Maxine s negative depiction of Chinese history partially reflects the bureaucracy of
patriarchal and feudal system in old China, but more importantly, reveals Maxine herself, a third
culture kid, as a paradox: she is eager to incorporate into the American mainstream society by
resisting her Chinese cultural background, but at the same time, her unconscious actions imply that
her Chinese background is a historical baggage that she could never discard of. By retelling
experiences and legends from her mother and even her grandmother s generation, Maxine suggests
how she as a Chinese American woman is in a awkward state between tradition and transformation,
and presents a cultural clash between America and China. Maxine s portray of women s role under
the male dominated society and feudal system suggests the first paradox in her ideology protesting
male dominance, but at the same time admitting it. Women, in ancient China, are usually treated as
lower social status and

34. Definition Of Good Faith Under English Contract Law
There is no general definition of good faith under English contract law; it is generally a
presumption that two parties will act honestly and fairly with one another. Unlike other systems
of law, such as the French Civil Code, English contract law does not recognise the obligation of
good faith . Instead there is more of a negative obligation not to tell lies rather than a positive
obligation to tell the truth and act in good faith. However recent cases such as Yam Seng PTE Ltd
v International Trade Corporation Limited have shown that the courts attitudes towards good faith
have been developing and changing. Now it may be possible to imply a term of good faith in a
contract. Therefore, where traditionally there has been a negative obligation not to tell lies, English
contract lawmay be slowly moving towards an obligation of good faith.
There is no obligation within the English contract law to act in good faith in keeping with the
principles of freedom of contract and the binding force of contract . Richard Stone and James
Devenney identified two of the reasons why this is so, freedom of contract as one of the reasons
because a positive obligation would have not sat easily with the archetype of a contract where two
parties of equal bargaining power where free to ask whichever questions seemed important. The
argument is that if one of the parties wants to ask something relevant to negotiations then they have
the freedom to and the party cannot lie; however the

35. Comparing Hume And Leibniz s Pre-Established Harmony
God is not important in the philosophy of Hume and Nietzsche given that their works refer to the
tenets of naturalism rather than focusing on whether actions are right or wrong. In fact, Nietzsche
believed that God is dead. As such, he does not ascribe to the views from Kant that God s
commandments are ingrained in the rationality of human beings. According to Nietzsche, there is
no such thing as moral facts. Accordingly, Hume was a naturalist whose work was not base on
deontological maxims. Both Hume and Nietzsche believed that no human belief is based on
rational justification. In this regard, the two philosophers argued that humans could not believe in
morality given that none of their beliefs has a rational basis.
Leibniz s Pre established Harmony refers to a philosophical theory relating to causation whereby
every substance affects only itself, but every substance interacts casually with each other because
God has programmed them to complement each other. Leibniz s uses the Pre established Harmony
to explain how the mind interacts with the body. With regard to the Pre established Harmony, Kant
would have termed it an unjustified fantasy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

school level, many students are not exposed to these processes. Plain and simple, they just don t

This is reminiscent of Professor of Social Research Methodology at UCLA, and one time

reasoning I found in logic was very foreign . (Rose 99) Students can sometimes feel pressured to
excel in their academics but they lack in critical areas that are required to succeed. So they revert
to an age old tendency to do the work, but do not really retain the information. Students stepping
into their first English course may feel overwhelmed by these foreign concepts and commit an
absolute academic sin, packing as much information into their brains as possible for the sole
purpose of repeating it back on tests and so forth, eventually forgetting the information as time

Rose could not get past his prejudices towards the literature and really read into what he was

37. A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases
A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) STDs are among the very significant and
preventable public health issues affecting the society and the globe at large today. In the
development stage of human beings, it is of significance that they involve themselves in sexual
activities. At this development stage, it is of note that adolescents mostly are at risk of
contracting STDs. This is in all cultures because sexual activity is highest during the adolescent
stage. This calls for early intervention to help them deal with this health problem. Educating the
adolescents to abstain, and use contraceptives in early sexual activities, are the most important
factors to deal with this issue (Oncel, Kulakac, Akcan, Eravsar Dedeoglu, 2011). Knowledge of
STDs does not have to influence the sexual behavior. Most adolescents are ignorant on how STDs
transmit. Lack of sexual information is the main cause of the increase in sexual activity among the
youth. Many male and female youth ignore the physiological and psychological development of
their bodies. This research aims to examine the sexual knowledge and behavior of adolescents
towards the subject matter, STDs, to determine some factors including age, sex, and family status
affecting the involvement of the respondents in sexual acts (Oncel et. al., 2011). Research work
reveals that the awareness of the adolescents about sexuality and STDs appears to be inadequate.
This mainly is because of the ignorance of health workers.

Acute Stress Disorder is characterized by the development of severe anxiety, dissociative, and other

ASD in Adults
It is known that 80% of adults in the United States have experienced trauma at least once in their
lives. I simply cannot imagine an adult going through this, but it must be more difficult for
children to overcome it. It is not common for older adults to develop ASD, as they have most
likely learned how to cope with stressful events. Experiencing a traumatic event at a young age can
most likely lead to developing ASD in adulthood. ASD in adulthood can easily develop into a more
complex psychological disorder known as PTSD. A treatment that can help adults is Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy, which can reduce the trauma. This treatment is usually used and is more
effective in children rather than adults. Another type of treatment is Eye Movement
Desensitisation and reprocessing, (EMDR). EMDR is a type of therapy treatment that can help
people recover from their emotional distress in life. This type of therapy has been proven to be
very effective in most cases, and is still used.

Burns listed many definitions of organisational culture, and a more simplistic and reductionist one
is: Culture is how things are done around here (Burnes 2004 p.170). The change in Oticon can be
seen as a Re Creation or Corporate transformation i.e. frame breaking or discontinuous change that
impacts the whole organisation. This means the culture in the organisation will have to change to
enable sustainability of the competitive edge. This is the reason why all things reminding of the
past and the old culture had to disappear. Burke and Litwin (1992) consider that a
transformational change involves a paradigm shift, and completely new behaviours. Instead of
changes designed to help the organisation do things better (incremental change) the organisation
needs to do things differently or do different things (Hayes 2007 p.121). There are four main

citizens of the Roman Empire.
Pompeii s ruins give an unparalleled glimpse into the daily life of city dwellers. During the first
century AD, Pompeii prospered as a commercial and farming centre ... with commodities including
wool, flowers and perfume, and garum . In order to enhance its status within the Roman world,
Pompeii s buildings emulated the magnificent public buildings that were found in the capital city,

games . The official title for the amphitheatre was the Latin word Spectacula . This reflects the
fact that the gladiatorial events and venationes staged in the arena evolved during the Roman
Republic, and later the Roman Empire. Gladiatorial combat involved highly trained and
expensive professionals . The gladiators followed rules in order to entertain spectators and
encourage displays of martial excellence: a demonstration of bravery in the face of death, and of
discipline and skill with arms . In both Pompeii and the wider Roman world, most gladiators
would have been slaves, enemy soldier prisoners or paid volunteers; some emperors would also
fight in the arena, but risks to themselves were

44. Similarities Between History And Architecture
In the field of architecture, one can find different ways of understanding and studying it. The
following essay discusses the fields of knowledge of three subjects: History, Theory, and Criticism
in Architecture. This paper explains each one in order to establish the differences between them,
and then discuss why in the last years, the limits between them have been blurred. To understand
more about the three topics in question, a parallelism between Literature and Architecture was
established, in order to explain them with ease.
The earliest definition of history was made by Aristotle, who said that history is an account of the
unchanging past . Therefore, Architectural History focuses on the data and facts. It can rely on
books, preserved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The point of view History takes is quite objective, since it is based on facts and often employs
research and contextualization in order to understand the meaning of a source that might be of help
in their studies.
The media commonly used by Architectural History, are articles (either online or in specialized
magazines), books and also audiovisuals like documentaries (which make it more accessible and
easy to understand to the public).
One example of Architectural History, is the work of the English historian Lucy Worsley in her
documentaries, in which she explains different periods in history, with facts obtained through time
and investigation. To explain Versailles, for example, she uses evidence: clothing, books,
blueprints, and therefore leaves nothing to interpretation.
Moreover, Architectural Theoryattempts to understand the intentions of architecture, and can also
study the relation or functions that it has in relation to other factors, such as society, history, and
economy, etcetera. According to Kaplan, Theory is a group of related generalizations that indicate
new observations, which can be empirically tested for the purpose of explaining and predicting

Picture living in a society where books are banned. In Guy Montag s society, that s how citizens
live. With no books and only technology to learn. In the novel Fahrenheit 451, author Ray
Bradbury stated the idea that censorship and family had a negative impact on citizens way of life,
this becomes clear to readers when people in the society start trying to commit suicide, families
split apart, and people don t have the right to learn in their society. In the novel if a book is found
the whole house gets burned. The main character is Guy Montag. He was a fireman whose job was
to start fires. Montag then meets a unique girl who changes his perspective on his society, and

For example citizens all around the society try to commit suicide on a regular basis. For
example, the text says, The operators cigarette moved on his lip. We get these cases nine or ten a
night. Got so many starting a few years ago, we had the special machines built. (pg 15 ). The
readers learn from this that family isn t put first in their society, and because of that people feel
alone; and have no other option rather than to kill themselves. Ray Bradbury is trying to reveal that
family is important and without it people feel alone and unloved. Montag s wife tried to kill
herself with taking a whole tube of sleeping pills, and the operators took it as no big deal
because in their society they see it so often. Later in the novel the text says, I plunk the children in
school nine days out of ten. I put up with them when they come home three days a month; it s not
bad at all. (pg 96). In the novel s society children don t even live with their parents. Only a few
days a month. Readers learn that family isn t important to Montag s society. They have more
important interests other than family. Like following the law and technology. Ray Bradbury finally
reveals that without family people are lost, but don t realize it because of too many distractions
throughout their life.
Overall, In the novel Fahrenheit 451 author Ray Bradbury illustrates the idea that censorship and

46. President Bush And The President Of The United States
The uproar of who should be the next President of the United States came in full swing April 2014.
While the Republican Party jumped to an early start by making trips to the early voting states of
Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, the Democratic Party lingered on the sidelines. The
Republican Party started with seventeen candidates, yet the Democratic Partyhad only three.
However, after the Iowa Caucus, one of the Democratic candidates dropped, leaving only two
candidates remaining. Those two candidates are Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. As the race
progressed sixteen of the Republican Party candidates dropped, leaving only Donald Trump. With
estimated polls, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump would be the two candidates in the 2016
presidential election. Clinton has over thirty five years of political experience, yet Trump has only
business experience, so the decision of who should run the country should be chosen carefully.
Although the Republican Party believes Donald Trump should be the next President of the United
States, the Democratic Party nominated Hillary Clinton as the best candidate because she has the
most accurate solutions for solving some of the main issues in the United States, such as gun
control, immigration, and education. Clinton and Trump have two different views on one of the
most important issues facing the U.S gun control. To argue the issue of gun control, Trump presents
the Second Amendment. Trump believes there should be no gun free

47. Population Dynamics and Its Effects on Climate Change Policy
Population dynamics and its effects of climate change policy Population growth and its effects on
climate change have been hotly debated in recent years by scientists and politicians alike. The
Fourth Assessment Report of the IPCC has sparked great interest and concern over climate change
and how it affects countries differently. The concept of environmental justice has focused on
climate changes unbalanced effects on developing countries, whose populations are more vulnerable
to climate change. With rapidly growing populations and inadequate resources and technologies,
developing countries have struggled to develop their economy sustainability. The relationship
between populationand climate change is grossly oversimplified by the idea that as population
increase so does its effect on climate change. Realistically, population and climate change affect
each other through economic trends, development patterns, society, institutions and the
government. Population dynamics is not simply the number of people in a given space. Rather, it is
the distribution and continuously changing demographics that make population dynamics a
complex but important factor in climate change policy. In recent climate change and environmental
protection discussions, developed countries have strongly suggested or even imposed
environmental policies upon developing countries. This has caused tension and misunderstandings
on both sides as developing countries strive for the economic success of their

48. Stephen Foster Research Paper
Stephen Foster was a musician and songwriter during the 1800s. He wrote over 200 songs
during his lifetime with tunes that are still very popular today. He didn t earn a very large sum of
money for his music in his life, but he would be worth millions today if he was still alive ( Stephen
Foster Biography ). Stephen Fosterearned the title of The Father of American Music . Stephen
Foster became known as The Father of American Music because he was a child prodigy, he used
his music to humanize the slaves, and he wrote songs that were extremely popular in his life and
continue to be popular 150 years later. Music was an important part of Stephen Foster s
childhood. The parents of Stephen Foster believed that music was not an appropriate activity
for a young boy so he mainly taught himself about music. He would spend time studying the
work of famous musicians such as Bach and Mozart. He learned how to play various musical
instruments when he was very young (Krull 45). This early interest in music gave Stephen
Foster an early love for the art of music and the aspiration of becoming a musician. Stephen
Foster was a child prodigy and began to write and play songs at a very early age. It was said that
Foster couldn t sit down at the piano without playing a brand new song (Krull 45). When Foster
was a teen him and his friends created a group called the Knights of the Square Table. One of the
most important activities of this group was singing. Some of Foster s earliest songs

49. Analysis Of Alfred Hitchcock And Christopher Nolan
When it comes to movies, many directors are good at their jobs. However, other directors are great
in the art of film making. There is no doubt such statement is considered utterly subjective, but what
would life be without subjectivity, for it is our differences that make us thrive against a monotonic
existence. By the same token, Alfred Hitchcockand Christopher Nolanutilize their singularities to
create films that for decades have impacted the movie making universe. In fact, it is their
differences that provide us with a high contrast to compare and scrutinize their job and find what
made them great at it. In his trajectory, Hitchcock was called by many the father of suspense.
Usually, his films would contain a deep level of psychological thrill that would captivate his
audience. Similarly, Nolan was perhaps influenced by Hitchcock and integrated the same degree
of suspense and psychological thrill to his films. Nonetheless, the question becomes why would
they choose this route, and the answer we find in psychology. There are people with adrenaline
seeking behavior, which means such individuals enjoy the adrenalin released through fear
experiences. Nevertheless, real life dangerous situations could lead to death; as a result, people
found a way to experience, to some extent, a similar level of fear without jeopardizing their lives.
Possibly, both Hitchcock and Nolan had at least a basic understanding of how the human psyche
works and incorporated the suspense

Reflection on concert Confluence
Known as one of the oldest of the 30 plus Master of Fine Arts (MFA) dance programs, the
Department of Dance presented Confluence on Feb. 25, 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 2:30
p.m. at Mather Dance Center. The concert included five works in total: three group works
choreographed by MFA candidates Ziying Cui and Yidi Lin, a duet choreographed by the chair of
the department, Karen Potter, and a solo created by CWRU alumni Christopher Bell. Compared
with other three dance performances, зҐ rite зҐ by Ziying Cui and Untitled Chopin Solo by
Christopher Bell formulated strong sentiments about life and people. Solemn facial expressions,
rapid changed music rhythms and story telling plots blended in tensions and dramatics to the
performances.

There were two impressive uses of bell ring inзҐ rite зҐ. The first one was before the dance began.
A sudden bell sound was a shock to the audience and it attracted people s attention to the
performance, while the second one was after the protagonist kneeled with other dancers
clapping their hands. However, the second bell ring was a warning of the protagonist s leave,
because she seemed very shock and sad after hearing the sound, and she even took several step
back to show how surprise she was. Other dancers on the stage also made reactions to the bell
ring: they all turned to look at her and farewell by making eye contact with her. Therefore, since a
ritual includes actions by specific order, the chorographer uses bell rings as a transition of different
dance sections and builds tension to the

51. Halloween Pedestrian Safety
Halloween Safety Tips From A Pedestrian Accident Attorney
Were you injured in a pedestrian accident? Did a careless, reckless, or distracted driver hurt your
child? Regardless of how safe you are as a pedestrian, a negligent driver can turn your world
upside down in a matter of seconds. If this happens to you, you need a pedestrian accident attorney
who will fight against the insurance company for the driver for your right to receive a fair and just
settlement for your injury claim.
Gordon R. Levinson of The Levinson Law Group is that attorney. Gordon has extensive experience
handling pedestrian accident cases. He also represented some of the largest insurance companies in
this country. As an attorney working in the insurance attorney, he learned how these companies

This puts children at a much higher risk for being injured or killed in motor vehicle related
accidents. To protect your children from harm this Halloween, keep in mind the following

Consider an alternative to trick or treating. There are many great Halloween and fall activities for
families throughout the North San Diego County area. You can avoid the dangers of trick or
treating by attending one of these events. However, always keep children close and hold hands
when crossing parking lots. Parking lots are common locations for pedestrian accidents.
Always go trick or treating with your children. The best way to protect your child is to go with
your child so that you can supervise your child as he or she is crossing the street and navigating the
neighborhood.
Help drivers see your child by carrying a flashlight and using reflective tape and other reflective
items. Many Halloween costumes are dark. By using reflective armbands, stickers, and tape, you
can make your child more visible to drivers and to

52. Persuasive Articles on Gun Control Essays
Persuasive Articles on Gun Control
Persuading an audience can be done in several different fashions, one of which is Hugh Rank s
Model of Persuasion. Rank s model states that two major strategies are used to achieve the
particular goal of persuasion. These strategies are nicely set into two main schemas; the first
method is to exaggerate an aspect of something, known as intensify. While the second is to
discredit it, which is referred to as downplay. Al Franken, JeffreySnyder, Harlan Ellison, and
George Will, have all written persuasive articles about gun control. In reading all of the various
articles on gun control by authors, I found George F. Will s The Last Word to be the most
persuasive. Will wrote his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Franken was also able to downplay the usefulness of a firearm by including a series of sarcastic
tips for tragedy in a home. For example, 1. Keep the gun loaded... 2. Put the gun in an unlocked
drawer... 3. Rest assured. 1 Where Franken s article comes up short is the use of hypothetical
numbers to exaggerate and intensify the deadliness of guns. His sarcasm adds diversity to his
piece, but should be used sparingly. Franken s conclusion causes his argument to lose its
effectiveness, after building his case it just seems ridiculous and out of place.
The least persuasive essay out of the four was Harlan Ellison s An Edge in My Voice. Ellison
presents his argument in a style that seems to me is more of a disgruntled rambling about both
famous and infamous people that die from gun shot, than an article about gun control. Ellison
spends the first few pages asking the reader if they cried when a certain person died; he begins
with famous people such as Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, and John Lennon, and then
moves on to more obscure examples. Instead of trying to build an argument, Ellison seemed to be
more caught up with anger and the notion of conspiracies. He does however try to use the intensify
technique of Rank s model, to persuade the reader of the horror of deaths caused by guns and their
importance. Although Ellison did try to persuade his audience in a different manor, I felt it was
ineffective at best,
