[Extended] Bottom-up growth of learning analytics at two Australian universit...Danny Liu
Presented at the University of New South Wales Learning Analytics and Educational Data Science research group meeting, April 2016.
This presentation will outline two approaches to learning analytics at the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, where staff are closely involved in the coevolution and development of two bespoke learning analytics tools to personalise student-staff interactions at scale. The University of Sydney system, called the Student Relationship Engagement System (SRES), is a highly-customisable web-based tool that supports the efficient capture and collation of student datasets. A companion mobile app helps staff quickly collect and access student data. Through an embedded messaging system, teaching staff can set up fully customisable rules to contact students via personalised emails and text messages. A nascent feature allows staff to leverage machine learning to uncover hidden patterns and relationships within and between datasets. The Macquarie University system is an enhancement of an existing Moodle plug-in, the Moodle Engagement Analytics Plugin (MEAP). MEAP can readily access data on student assessments, completions, login activity, forum activity, and the gradebook, amongst others, which are customisably represented as ‘risk indicators’. MEAP allows flexible and customisable interrogation of these data, and provides staff the ability to send personalised emails to students based on these risk indicators. At both institutions, these learning analytics approaches have grown from the grassroots to address pressing staff needs, highlighting the importance of this bespoke coevolution process of design, development, and implementation. The systems have enjoyed substantial organic adoption and are associated with positive student outcomes. As open source developments, we are very interested in working together to open up accessible learning analytics to teachers and students.

The 10-Step Knowledge Management Road map
They copied all that they could follow but they could not copy my mind, and I left 'em sweating and stealing and a year and half behind —Rudyard Kipling.
IN THIS CHAPTER
• Understand the 10-step knowledge management roadmap and how it applies to your company.
• Understand the four phases constituting these 10 steps: infrastructural evaluation; KM system analysis, design, and development; deployment; and evaluation.
• Understand where each step takes you.
• Articulate a clear link between KM and business strategy to maximize performance and impact on your company's bottom line.
• Learn how to prioritize KM processes to maximize business impact.
• Understand the key steps involved in knowledge auditing, knowledge mapping, strategic grounding, deployment methodology, teaming, change management, and ROI metrics formation.
Knowledge management is a complex activity, and like anything else that cannot deliver business impact without a concrete plan, it needs a perfect plan. This chapter introduces that plan: the 10-step knowledge management roadmap that will guide you through the entire process of creating a business-driven knowledge management strategy, designing, developing, and implementing a knowledge management system and effecting the soft changes that are required to make them work—with your company in mind. I chose to describe this plan as a roadmap rather than relegating it to the status of a methodology. A methodology undermines the level of complexity that is actually involved in managing knowledge and gives it a deceptive look of a cookie-cutter formulation.
May your competitors who thought that bleeding-edge technology was their nirvana rest in peace. For nothing—no technology, no market share, no product, and no monopoly— can ever provide a competitive advantage that is anything but temporary: They can all be copied, sometimes easily and sometimes with a little effort. Knowledge is the only resource that cannot be easily copied. Knowledge is much like copy protection: Even if your competitors get to it, they cannot apply it, for knowledge is protected by context in as copy-protected software is protected by encryption.
This strengthening idiosyncrasy of knowledge also has a negative implication for you: You cannot easily copy a competitor's knowledge management strategy and system.
Examples from your industry's leaders can be useful for understanding knowledge management, but they cannot show you the right way to do it. For these reasons, your
knowledge management system and knowledge management strategy will have to be unique to your company.
What follows in the next four sections of this book is an explication of the roadmap—not imitable methodology—that will help focus on your own company and develop a
knowledge strategy whose results are hard hitting, but one that no competitor can easily duplicate. They can co

Cultivating TALint: Using the Core Competencies as a framework for training f...NASIG
In 2014, the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information and the University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) partnered in the development of the TALint (Toronto Academic Libraries Internship) program. Focused on workplace-integrated-learning (W-I-L), the TALint program provides enhanced educational experiences for Masters of Information students by combining periods of in-class study with actual workplace experiences. The two-year program is intended to enhance the quality of student learning by providing interns with specialized knowledge and practical skills, professional development and mentorship opportunities. It is often the case that the workplace is ahead of academic programs. This is particularly true in technical services and the field of electronic resource management, where the requisite knowledge and practical skills required to perform these roles has traditionally been under-represented within library and information studies curricula. The TALint program has provided UTL with the unique opportunity to bridge the gap between the expertise developed through information studies programs and the specific knowledge and skills required to take on roles as electronic resource librarians. With this year’s TALint cohort in UTL’s Metadata Technologies Team, we are using NASIG’s Core Competencies for Electronic Resources Librarians as a framework for training our two TALint interns. In this session, presenters will discuss the development of a comprehensive student training plan in electronic resource management, the ongoing assessment of learning outcomes, student perceptions of competency-based training, and the benefits of using the Core Competencies that have been felt beyond the internship program. We will share how this training plan can better equip Masters of Information students for careers in electronic resource management by producing graduates who are qualified, technologically skilled and workplace-ready.

Online Learning Management System and Analytics using Deep LearningDr. Amarjeet Singh
During this pandemic we have seen rise in popularity of online learning platforms. In this paper, we are going to discuss E-Learning using analytics and deep learning focusing on mainly four objectives which are login systems for teachers and students, Gamification to engage learners, AR contents to increase the involvement of learners and learning analytics to develop competency. We will use Data Mining and Buisness Intelligence to extract high level knowledge from the raw data of students. To predict engagement of students we have used several ML algorithms. This study provides an introduction to the technology of AR and E-Learning systems. The main focus of this paper is to use research on augmented reality and integrate it with Buisness Intelligence and Data Mining(DM).
Engaging student till the end of the course became really difficult for traditional E-Learning Platform. Therefore, Gamification in E-learning is good way to solve this problem.
Education must capitalize on the trend within technology toward big data. New types of data are becoming available. From evidence approaches to xAPI and the whole Training and Learning Architecture(TLA) big data is the foundation of all.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs
