much needed in the field of industry, business
and public services..
As management success very
much depends upon the ability
of the leader who are called
upon to manage.

combination of specific
abilities, qualities and skills
acquired by an individual.

1.3. Leadership and management
Management is controlling people and getting them to do things.
Leadership is influencing people to do things willingly.
Management is organized along hierarchical positions and
authority. Position as a manager, supervisor, etc.
Managers are not leaders, but boss. Leadership makes the
subordinates to achieve high goals..
Leadership is the ability to develop a vision that motivates others to move with a
passion toward a common goal.
Management is the ability to organize resources and coordinate the execution of
tasks necessary to reach a goal in a timely and cost effective manner.

 “ A skill is an acquired talent that a
person develops related to a specific
task”
 A skill can be defined as “ an ability
which can be developed, not necessarily
inborn, and which is manifested in
performance, not merely in potential.

 Leadership skills are those skills which
a leader must possess to enable to
influence and inspire the followers to
attain desired objectives and goals.
 Leadership skills are acquired through
learning, observing and imitating other
successful leaders.

Concept of leadership Concept old The need for leadership was increasingly felt in almost all spheres of man’s life; it was very much needed in the field of industry, business and public services.. As management success very much depends upon the ability of the leader who are called upon to manage. . Leadership therefore, implies the combination of specific abilities, qualities and skills acquired by an individual. .
  • 5. 1.3. Leadership and management Management is controlling people and getting them to do things. Leadership is influencing people to do things willingly. Management is organized along hierarchical positions and authority. Position as a manager, supervisor, etc. Managers are not leaders, but boss. Leadership makes the subordinates to achieve high goals.. Leadership is the ability to develop a vision that motivates others to move with a passion toward a common goal. Management is the ability to organize resources and coordinate the execution of tasks necessary to reach a goal in a timely and cost effective manner.

  • 8.  Leadership skills are those skills which a leader must possess to enable to influence and inspire the followers to attain desired objectives and goals.  Leadership skills are acquired through learning, observing and imitating other successful leaders. 2.2. What are leadership skills?

  • 12. Communication skills  A leader should know how to send and receive information of data effectively.  Must be an active listener and have good oral, writing, and presentation skills..
  • 13. A leader delegates a certain amount of power to act or make decision. Believes in getting other people involved and empowering their growth. Provides clear information and expectation. Makes the person understand the result the person has to produce. The person who receives the authority is someone capable and motivated to get the job done. Once task is delegated, offer assistance, opinions, & receive feedbacks. With this process we transfer skills to others and train them to become skilled leaders. Decision making skills  One of the important leadership skills is the ability to make decisions.  A leader has to think and act fast.  Must have the courage to make decision even if it involves taking some risks.  The more right decisions leader makes, the better she/he becomes in making more.
