Who is a Leader?
“A person who influences a
group of people towards the
achievement of a goal”
A mnemonic for leadership would be 3P’s-
PERSON
Is leadership a position of office or authority ?
Or
Is leadership an ability in the sense that he is a leader because he
leads?
NO
• A leader by its meaning is one who goes first and leads by example, so that
others are motivated to follow him.
• To be a leader, a person must have a deep – rooted commitment to the goal that
he will strive to achieve it even if nobody follows him!
PURPOSE
“The leader has to be practical and a realistic, yet must talk the language of
visionary and the idealistic.”
PEOPLE
 To be leader, one must have followers.
 To have followers, one must have their
trust.
how do you win their trust?
why would others trust you?
 Most important, are you worthy of
their trust?
WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?
• Leadership is the ability to develop a vision that motivates others to move with a
passion towards a common goal.
FOUR FACTORS OF LEADERSHIP
• Leader
• Follower
• Communication
• Situation

• Leader - You must have an honest understanding of who you are, what you know and
what you can do. To be successful you have to convince your followers not your
superiors, that you are worthy of being followed
• Follower – you must know your people. The fundamental starting point is having a good
understanding of human nature such as needs, emotions and motivation.
• Communication – The nonverbal communication is leading. E.g. – when you set example
that communicate your people that you would not ask them to perform anything that you
would not be willing to do. Bad communication harm the relation between leader and
employee.
• Situation – we must use our judgment to decide the best course of action and the
leadership style needed for each situation. What we do in one situation will not always
work in another.
LEADERSHIP SKILLS
Fundamentals of Leadership
• Uniting people around an exciting, aspirational vision;
• Building a strategy for achieving the vision by making choices about what to do
and what not to do;
• Attracting and developing the best possible talent to implement the strategy;
• Relentlessly focusing on results in the context of the strategy;
• Creating ongoing innovation that will help reinvent the vision and strategy; and
• “Leading yourself”: knowing and growing yourself so that you can most
effectively lead others and carry out these practices.
Attributes of a leader
• Guiding vision: The effective leader establishes achievable goals.
• Passion: Effective leaders believe passionately in their goals. They have a
positive outlook on who they are, and they love what they do.
• Integrity: Because they know who they are, effective leaders are also aware of
their weaknesses. They only make promises they can follow through on.
• Honesty: Leaders convey an aura of honesty in both their professional and their
personal lives.
• Trust: Effective leaders earn the trust of their followers and act on behalf of their
followers.

• Curiosity: Leaders are learners. They find out what they need to know in order to pursue
their goals.
• Risk: Effective leaders take calculated risks when necessary to achieve their objectives. If
a mistake is made, the effective leader will learn from the mistake and use it as an
opportunity to explore other avenues.
• Dedication: The leader gives himself or herself entirely to the task when it is necessary.
• Charisma: This may be the one attribute that is the most difficult to cultivate. It conveys
maturity, respect for your followers, compassion, a fine sense of humor, and a love of
humanity.
• Listening: Leaders Listen! This is the most important attribute of all, listen to your
followers.

• Ignite your enthusiasm – you
can not inspire unless you’re
inspired yourself .
• Navigate a course of action –
nothing extraordinary ever
happened without a leader
articulating a vision, a course of
action.
• Sell the benefits
• Paint a picture
our brains are programmed more for stories than for abstract ideas.
Stories can also include personal anecdotes, helping to establish a
closer connection between leaders and teams.
• Invite Participation –
Invite team for their opinions or pitch
new ideas.
• Reinforce optimism – “is a force multiplier”
• Encourage Potential -

  • 2. Who is a Leader? “A person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a goal”
  • 3. A mnemonic for leadership would be 3P’s-
  • 4. PERSON Is leadership a position of office or authority ? Or Is leadership an ability in the sense that he is a leader because he leads?
  • 5. NO • A leader by its meaning is one who goes first and leads by example, so that others are motivated to follow him. • To be a leader, a person must have a deep – rooted commitment to the goal that he will strive to achieve it even if nobody follows him!
  • 6. PURPOSE “The leader has to be practical and a realistic, yet must talk the language of visionary and the idealistic.”
  • 7. PEOPLE  To be leader, one must have followers.  To have followers, one must have their trust. how do you win their trust? why would others trust you?  Most important, are you worthy of their trust?
  • 8. WHAT IS LEADERSHIP? • Leadership is the ability to develop a vision that motivates others to move with a passion towards a common goal.
  • 9. FOUR FACTORS OF LEADERSHIP • Leader • Follower • Communication • Situation
  • 10. CONTINUE… • Leader - You must have an honest understanding of who you are, what you know and what you can do. To be successful you have to convince your followers not your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed • Follower – you must know your people. The fundamental starting point is having a good understanding of human nature such as needs, emotions and motivation. • Communication – The nonverbal communication is leading. E.g. – when you set example that communicate your people that you would not ask them to perform anything that you would not be willing to do. Bad communication harm the relation between leader and employee. • Situation – we must use our judgment to decide the best course of action and the leadership style needed for each situation. What we do in one situation will not always work in another.

Fundamentals of Leadership • Uniting people around an exciting, aspirational vision; • Building a strategy for achieving the vision by making choices about what to do and what not to do; • Attracting and developing the best possible talent to implement the strategy; • Relentlessly focusing on results in the context of the strategy; • Creating ongoing innovation that will help reinvent the vision and strategy; and • “Leading yourself”: knowing and growing yourself so that you can most effectively lead others and carry out these practices.
  • 13. Attributes of a leader • Guiding vision: The effective leader establishes achievable goals. • Passion: Effective leaders believe passionately in their goals. They have a positive outlook on who they are, and they love what they do. • Integrity: Because they know who they are, effective leaders are also aware of their weaknesses. They only make promises they can follow through on. • Honesty: Leaders convey an aura of honesty in both their professional and their personal lives. • Trust: Effective leaders earn the trust of their followers and act on behalf of their followers.
  • 14. CONTINUE… • Curiosity: Leaders are learners. They find out what they need to know in order to pursue their goals. • Risk: Effective leaders take calculated risks when necessary to achieve their objectives. If a mistake is made, the effective leader will learn from the mistake and use it as an opportunity to explore other avenues. • Dedication: The leader gives himself or herself entirely to the task when it is necessary. • Charisma: This may be the one attribute that is the most difficult to cultivate. It conveys maturity, respect for your followers, compassion, a fine sense of humor, and a love of humanity. • Listening: Leaders Listen! This is the most important attribute of all, listen to your followers.
  • 15. THE 7 SECRETS OF INSPIRING LEADERS • Ignite your enthusiasm – you can not inspire unless you’re inspired yourself .
  • 16. • Navigate a course of action – nothing extraordinary ever happened without a leader articulating a vision, a course of action.

  • 18. • Paint a picture our brains are programmed more for stories than for abstract ideas. Stories can also include personal anecdotes, helping to establish a closer connection between leaders and teams.
  • 19. • Invite Participation – Invite team for their opinions or pitch new ideas.
  • 20. • Reinforce optimism – “is a force multiplier”
