The Characters In Tim O Brien s The Go-Between
In the authors introduction, the author made it clear that his intended purpose for displaying the
characters, Marian and Ted, was for the reader to judge them harshly, but at the end the reader felt
sorry and sympathetic for the characters. The author, when writing The Go between, wanted the reader
not to know which character to feel sorry for. In contrast, the reader said it was quite obvious that
Marian was the one Hartley disapproved. They saw that she represented life s riches and complexity.
The reader was sympathetic because of the situation Marian was in. Marian was under great pressure
from her mother to marry a Lord Trimingham, a man she does not want to marry. Marian takes the
anger out on him as sort of a revenge for being double

Going To A Magnet School
I remember back in fifth grade when we were taught almost every day to say no to peer pressure. The
idea of saying no seemed liked the easiest thing to accomplish back then, but as I grew older, I
realized nothing is as easy as it seems. I was at that age where life changing decisions were to be
made. It was that time of the year when students in 8th grade pondered upon themselves deciding on
different high schools to spend four years in.
I d like to describe myself as a very simple person. So going to a normal high school, that s close to
my house with almost half of the people from middle school sounded like the best decision ever. It
was however, deemed as a bogus decision to everyone around me. That s when this horrific peer
pressure incident happened. When I told my friends and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every day, we would start off with the same conversation with them asking me if I was still going to
that crappy school. It would then continue on with them listing the advantages of a magnet school. I
would then go home and have my family nag me constantly for my decision. Our dinner conversations
consisted mostly of my parents and brother trying to convince me to go to a magnet school out of fear
that I might fall victim to drugs and violence at a normal high school. When it came to peer pressure,
all I had to say was no and leave, right? Let me just say that it is by far the hardest thing to say
especially when you have a pack of desperate people trying to play tug of war with you. After a while,
I gave in to their ridiculous reasoning s not because I was sick of their constant nagging, but because I

Essay on Republican
n elephant as their official symbol, the Republican Party originated in Ripon, Wisconsin 28th of
February, 1854. The reason for organizing this political party came from the opposition towards
westward expansion of slavery. The very first convention was held on the 6th of July, 1854 in Jackson,
Michigan. The political principles of the party include deregulated free market capitalism, excepting
corporate tax breaks and subsidies, nationalism, religiosity, social conservatism, and militarism.

Increasing defense spending is a must not only to defend our borders but also to assure a leading
position in world affairs. President Bush has proposed a $379.9 billon budget for the Department of
Defense (DoD), a $15.3 billion increase. The President plans to boost military pay, housing, training,
intelligence, and technology. By adding pay and supplying better living quarters to those marines,
soldiers, airmen, and sailors enhance morale and allows the further experienced to stay in for a longer
time.
The improved training provided allows quicker responses and more knowledgeable actions in
preparation for war against terrorism.
Intelligence in this day in age is a vital component of a countries security. The newest proposal
increases intelligence spending between 2 and 3 billion dollars, a total adding to nearly $35 billion. In
addition to military enhancement, the FBI and other law enforcement/intelligence agencies will also
be included in this proposal. A new system has been proposed by President Bush that all information
be shared among all agencies. DoD, FBI, and the Department of Counterterrorist Center have drawn
closer together to create a Terrorist Threat Integration Center to evaluate information blended from all
sources associated with terrorism and to act upon those findings accordingly.

Fate In Joseph Campbell s The Alchemist
Many people live their lives believing that their lives are driven by fate; that their hopes and dreams
ultimately have no impact on how their lives will turn out. This, however, does not hold true when one
considers the paths taken by those who follow their own dreams and desires. When one examines the
lives of people and characters who follow their dreams, one can realize that life is not guided by fate,
but by the desires of one s heart. In The Alchemist, Santiago s life is guided by his dreams and desires,
not his fate. In the beginning of the novel, Santiago was studying to be a priest, but he forgoes his
education in order to follow his dream of traveling the world. Though many as a foolish decision
would have seen this, as priests were well respected and shepherds were not, Santiago does as he
desires, not what he is told will be the most advantageous. Throughout his travels, Santiago
encounters many people who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though he spends a relatively short amount of time discussing fate, the words spoken by Campbell
speak volumes. As he tells Bill Moyers, The influence of the dominant divinity in my mind will be
what determines my decision (Campbell 166). Though this statement does not explicitly mention fate,
its presence in this quote can be inferred. By stressing the importance of divine power s influence over
one s mind, Campbell in rejecting the notion of fate, for if fate were present the dominant divinity
would not be necessary. Additionally, by stressing the importance of following your bliss throughout
the text, Campbell stresses the importance of following one s dreams rather than prescribing to the
notion of fate. Throughout The Power of Myth, Campbell s disregard of fate and attention to dreams
shows one that they should follow the path of their heart rather than believing their path has been
chosen for

Business Overview Of Shani A Franchise Or Open An...
Business Type
Depending on her level of comfort and desire of business freedom, Shania can pursue a franchise or
open an independent coffeehouse. One business brings market ready supplies and the other requires
greater diligence in planning and management.
Opening a franchise brings a brand name and materials to a business to produce instant recognition
and bring in brand loyal consumers. A franchise creates a business relationship with a franchisor to
bring a brand name, trade dress, and trademark to a franchisee (Kubasek et al., 2015, p. 431). In turn
for the franchise material and name, the franchisee pays a percentage of sales to the franchisor
(Kubasek et al., 2015, p. 431). As reported in 2011, franchising was so popular that it was the genesis
of one of every 12 retail businesses in the United States (Welsh, Desplaces, Davis, 2011, p. 4). A
weakness of owning a franchise was reported by Perrigot, Hussain, and Windsperger (2015) where
franchisees have to strictly follow operating manuals and almost all of the strategic decisions are made
at the franchisor level (p. 696). Although it does have a curtailed degree of freedom, a franchise brings
greater stability with a proven business style and support system.
On the contrary, an independent operation is different in that there are no trade materials or products;
however, there is greater freedom to operate (Perrigot, Hussain, Windsperger, 2015, pp. 700 701).
Additionally, independent operators can better

The Book Thhief By Sylvia Plath
Death is inevitable. Sylvia Plath, author of 1962 confessional poem, Lady Lazarus and Markus Zusak
author of 2005 historical fiction novel, The Book Thief explore the idea that a range influences
ultimately determine a person s final destiny. Zusak and Plath discuss this common idea by utilising
various literary techniques complementing the conventions of their respective text types. Both authors
highlight a range of key ideas such as, the idea that patriarchal standards within society impact the
protagonist s fate, the social influence relationships have on individuals and the effect this has on their
fate and the inevitable role death plays and the controlling influence death has on life within their
respective pieces.
Sylvia Plath and Markus Zusak both challenge the idea that patriarchal standards within society
influence the protagonist s fate in their texts. Sylvia Plath s Lady Lazarus is a reaction to the
oppressive nature of the patriarchy surrounding Plath during the early sixties. Lady Lazarus reveals
Plath s feelings of resentment in this semi autobiographical poem that grew from her feeling trapped
in a cyclical and oppressive environment. Plath employs allusion to the biblical tale of Lazarus where
she describes a, grave cave where she felt, at home. This captures Plath s resentment towards the
patriarchy as she feels that if she does not succumb to her desire to commit suicide and thus control
her fate, she will have to conform to the patriarchal

The Pros And Cons Of Labor Relations
In the U.S. labor relations, a group of employees who desire to bargain collectively rather than
individually, are those who typically form a union (Dooley, 1957). This demonstrates to the employer
that the majority of its employees support the union and the organizing process begins. First,
employees cannot form a union without abiding by certain basic procedural steps and legal standards
that are required. Decisions to vote against or for a union are based on factors such as satisfaction with
their job, beliefs of the effectiveness of the union, and the culture or social environment in which the
employee works. Next, when an employer exerts undue punishment to an employee who the employer
suspects as being an illegal alien, this may be poor public policy. From a legal perspective, a recent
federal court case, Singh v. Jutla C.D. R. Oil, Inc., 214 F. Supp. 2d 1056 (N.D. Cal. 2002) spoke to
this issue. In this case, when the plaintiff Singh filed a wage claim under the Fair Labor Standards Act
(FLSA), the employer fired him and reported him to INS as an illegal alien (Labor Law, 1969).
Likewise, the union certification process which was established by the National Labor Relations Act
(NLRA) in 1935 was a victory for workers waning union representation upon its initial
implementation. Workers could petition the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for a
determination made democratically of whether a majority of workers favored unionization (Labor
Law, 1969). This effort

Wgu Human Resources Task 1
Dear Mr. Smith,
Upon investigation in to the claim of constructive discharge under the Title VII Civil Rights Act of
1964 my research found this claim to be irrelevant and unjustified. A constructive discharge happens
when an employee is legally justified in claiming that he/she was forced to resign because the
employer has made working conditions intolerable.
In our situation a complaint was never filed with the company letting us know the employee was
unhappy or giving us the opportunity to respond to the situation. Therefore the company was unaware
of creating an intolerable working condition for that employee and we did not intentionally do it. The
company experienced growth so the production schedule changed for all employees. The ... Show

We would need to review and make sure that all the appropriate measures are being taken in a timely
manner if someone complains about their working environment. Specific steps and procedures need to
be followed to protect our company and our employees. In Pennsylvania State Police v. Suders (2004)
the Supreme Court found that in order to establish constructive discharge a plaintiff must show that
the environment was so intolerable that resigning was the only option. But the court also found that
the plaintiff failed to avail herself of the internal reporting procedures as she resigned two days after
mentioning harassment to an official. The case supports our position of not guilty because the
employee who is filing charges against us did not follow the company s internal reporting procedures.
This would have allowed us to meet with the employee to see if we could come to an agreeable
solution. Internal reporting procedures are there to protect everyone involved.
My final recommendation would be to make a statement to the employee filing charges against us to
inform them know that we are aware of the Code of Federal Regulations (Guidelines on
discrimination because of religion, 2009) and that we are willing to work with the individual to find a
solution. If the employee dropped the charges and came back to work for us then there are a number of
accommodations we would suggest such as

Understanding Fate, Women, And Oaths
Understanding Fate, Women, and Oaths in The Franklin s Prologue and Tale From a Comparison with
The Knight s Tale The Franklin s Tale narrates the romantic conflict between Dorigene, a distressed
maiden, Arveragus, a meke knight (739), and Aurelius, a besotted squire. Although Dorigene and
Arveragus are contently married, Aurelius continues to court Dorigene and attempts to win her over
by removing alle the rokkes, stoon by stoon (993) from the coast of Brittany. When Aurelius informs
Dorigene that he has successfully vanished the rocks, she realizes she is bound to been [his] love (990)
by a promise made in pley , and bemoans her situation for a day or tweye : Allas! quod she, that ever
was I born!/ Thus have I seyd, quod she, thus have I sworn . (Franklin s Tale. 1463 64). The first part
of this couplet is extraordinary passive and demonstrates Dorigene s belief that human lives are fated
from birth. On the other hand, the active syntax of the second line suggests that Dorigene has agency
over her words and her promise and assumes partial responsibility for her situation. The tonal gap
between the two halves captures a contradiction in Dorigene s lament that is replicated and magnified
in The Franklin s Tale . Although the Franklin attempts to quit with The Knight s Tale and presents his
characters as equally dependent on fate and the gods, he overgoes his social superior by emphasizing
ideas that the Knight ignores or otherwise undermines

Five Birthday Secrets
5 Birthday Secrets On our way from the professor s office, it was so dark in the streets I almost tripped
on the end of the sidewalk. Then I remembered that it was our Birthday today. I was so excited
because all of our family was there. Our house was all decorated with sports stuff, like banners,
streamers, and balloons all over. We both turned around and said HAPPY BIRTHDAY. then JINKS.
We had cake, ice cream, and all that stuff [even a soccer ball piñata.] it was all so fun. After the party
while we were cleaning up uncle Dave reminded me about the Book [when me and Hunter where
about seven. My Mom and Dad, told us that when we tuned twelve we would open The Book of
Secrets] she ran into our bedroom, in the closet she found a box, in the box was a lot of tissue paper
and packing peanuts, she through that stuff aside and she took out the box that held the book and
brought it back to the living room. We opened it together, and there it was that book that had cased all
that commotion. Hunter opened it and papers after papers fell out. We each took one, my paper
said......Dear Asher sorry about the trouble, but you and Hunter both have powers, yours are Invisible,
shipshape into anything, stop time, go forward in time, go back in time, super speed, super strong,
teleport, go though anything, use fire, water, and air balls, and control the weak minded. LOVE, Dad

Peoria Argumentative Essay
Throughout the 1800 s there were many crucial debates on the idea of slavery. One of the biggest
controversies in this time was the Kansas Nebraska act, passed in May of 1854. The act was the
deciding factor of if Nebraska and Kansas would be a slave or free state, it would later repeal the
Missouri Compromise. Lincoln was considered a very moral man, he used his political power for what
he believed in. Lincoln would be considered a strong advocate for the abolitionist movement.
Although with this Lincoln did share the racial views of his time, he still spoke out against slavery and
was considered to free slaves. Lincoln s good out ways his bad in the questions between emancipator

The Peoria speech, prior to the Kansas Nebraska act, was in fact fueled by the act Lincoln the act
accelerated his views on the African American race as a whole and the ways they were treated. He
realizes how misguided slavery was from the constitution. In his Peoria speech he calls slavery a
monstrous injustice and repeatedly tries to get the point of how wrong slavery is throughout the
speech. Lincoln realizes how much the African Americans suffer through this. In August of 1862, Abe
meets with a couple of the African American leaders in order to discuss what would the future look
like for their race. He does this as an act of sincerity although some of his talk would have been
considered racist from him telling them that their race would never prosper here and should move
outside the nation. In him saying this it does sound a bit racist but in all reality this was because he
truly believed that this would be best after watching what us going on with the Kansas Nebraska act it

Dehumanization In The Handmaid s Tale
(ADD HOOK) the Republic of Gilead dehumanizes its citizens by allowing officials to abuse their
power while in their roles. This leads to destroying the order in society. To begin, the Republic of
Gilead was formed after the president of the United States was assassinated; It was after the
catastrophe, when they shot the President and machine gunned the Congress and the army declared a
state of emergency (Atwood, 200). This proves that even before the revolution began that power was
being abused and that it was being used to destruct society. In addition to this, Serena Joy the
commander uses her power to gain control over her husband and Offred. Serena Joy arranges for
Offred and Nick to sleep together to remove Offred from their house: ... Show more content on

Throughout this novel, Atwood is a prime example of this. This novel widely speaks upon women s
rights issues and problems within their society; this therefore shows the dehumanization of citizens.
This is shown when the constitution had been abolished and the president had been shot. All the
female workers are replaced by a male counterpart. This is shown when she says; When I got to the
corner store, the usual woman wasn t there. Instead it was a man... (Atwood, 202). As Offred
continues her recounting of this event she explains that when her credit card was not working. She
then, continues to recount these events and says that calls her work and nobody answers. Her boss
later explains that it is the law that he must fire all female workers: I have to let you go, he said. It s
the law, I have to. I have to let you all go. He said this almost gently as if we were wild animals, frogs
he d caught in a jar, as if he were being humane.... Not fired, he said. Let go (Atwood, 203 204). In the
novel firing the female workers becomes a must and by doing this the government dehumanizes the
women in the Republic of Gilead it is inhumane and misogynistic. This contributes to the destruction
of society because, women are a part of society so using radical tactics to make womens role in
society insignificant. Although, this isn t where the sexism ends. Moreover, the women in this novel
only exist in relation to men. Everything a woman does is for a man, if a woman is taking care of a
Handmaid they are only doing it to take care of her so she is able to satisfy the mens needs. She says I
am a national resource. (Atwood, 73) This quotation is seen as misogynistic because Offred is only
valued for her fertility and her ability to have children. This can lead to the destruction of society
because, women are a part of Gilead so oppressing these

Reliability And Validity Of Test Scores
In tests and assessments validity refers to the degree where theoretical and empirical evidence
supports the meaning and interpretation of the test scores (Reynolds Livingston, 2013). Validity is
important in testing and assessment as validity refers to credibility from a trustworthy source. In this
respect, validity is important for scientist and professionals to select appropriate methods that support
the meaning and interpretation of test scores. In psychology, reliability is concerned with stability and
consistency (Reynolds Livingston, 2013). Reliability focuses on the context of measurement which
can be influenced by endless factors, that can affect a score (Reynolds Livingston, 2013). Such a

Reliability and validity can use improvement in terms of testing and assessment. Reynolds and
Livingston (2013) suggest that by adding more test questions can improve the reliability and validity
(Reynolds Livingston, 2013). Another suggestion is for constructs and content to be clearly defined,
otherwise, scores can get lost in interpretation (Reynolds Livingston, 2013). The bottom line is that
testing and assessments are not for everyone. A person interested in pursuing psychometrics field must
truly have a calling and interest in such a profession as it can be complex with many factors to
consider. In a sense, psychometricians are pioneers and innovators who seek to answer questions of
observations made. Thus, reliability and validity may be more clearly defined by a person who has a
clear idea of what they are interested in testing. From a scholar s perspective, this writer utilizes

Media Self Esteem
At times, it can be hurtful when we do not get that attention that our friends get on social media as this
makes us feel as if we are nothing in this world. Michelle Linker can be equated with approval or self
esteem as she was a daily user of Instagram. She told her guardian that she feels anxiety over the likes
she got after she posted her pictures on his Instagram page. She said that she got only two likes and
she would ask herself what was really wrong with her. This greatly influenced her and lowered her self
esteem because she felt low and considered herself as a child of a lesser God compared to her
followers. In reality, when we all post something such as pictures of our own and don t get a lot of
likes, we always feel rejected which ultimately causes our self esteem to take a hit. This will always
affect our mind as a lot of question will ring each moment why we can be rejected. When we get likes
on our pages of Instagram or Facebook, the reward system in the brain is activated, and thus releases
dopamine, which causes individuals to associate likes with the same pleasure we may get or feel from
taking narcotics or any other drug that when you take, you feel well (Lin et al. 326).
Each moment we spend on social media sites such as Facebook and compare ourselves to others, the
more our self esteem lowers and the more we also get depressed. The worst part is that we forget to
take into account that a lot of what we see, particularly from celebrities and brands, is

Ernest Rohm Was A German Military Officer And Founding...
Ernest Rohm was a German military officer and founding member of the Nazi party, making him a
close companion and early ally of Adolf Hitler. But, by 1934, Hitler had come to see him as a potential
rival and had him executed during the Night of the Long Knives.
The historical context of Germany in Rohm s rise in power was what thrust him into the position of
high power and authority. In a time of a fractured Germany, the Treaty of Versailles had reduced the

officials, including Rohm. Therefore, Rohm notoriously fought against the communists who had taken
over Munich in 1919, using brutality in order to eliminate the communists and socialists that helped,
along with others, to destabilize the early years of the Weimar Republic. Born in Munich in 1887,
Rohm had a violent relationship with his father which is a direct link to his own violent nature, and
what prompted Rohm s troubled mind to never accept the fact that Germany had lost World War One.
He also believed that the loathed Treaty of Versailles had been imposed on the Germans by hated and
traitorous socialist politicians. Rohm had a possessed hatred for the democratic republic, and had an
extreme flair for politics and natural ability of an organizer. Based in Munich it was almost inevitable
that Rohm would have heard about a young political party that advocated Rohm views that he held. In

Race in Five Film Versions of Shakespeare s Othello Essay...
William Shakespeare s Othello is only moderately interested in questions of race and racism. For
Shakespeare, Othello s blackness was mainly a plot device. Though the bard did demonstrate concerns
about racial and religious prejudice, in Othello and The Merchant of Venice, his interest in the tragedy
of the Moor was principally psychological. For Shakespeare and his contemporary audience, Othello
was about jealousy, hatred, and vindictiveness.
The play has aged well, as have all Shakespeare s plays, but not, perhaps, in the ways Shakespeare s
contemporaries would have predicted. In Shakespeare s time, it would have been acceptable for
Othello to kill his wife, had she truly been unfaithful. What made Othello a tragic criminal to ... Show

Douglas Brode states, Wells was fully aware that Shakespeare had been a pre Freudian psychologist
(154). Brode adds that, in the early 1950s when the psychological film was at its peak, Othello served
Welles interest in Freudian psychology (154 155).
According to Michael MacLiammoir, who plays Iago to Welles lead, Welles believed Iago was
impotent and a closet homosexual who married Emilia, played by Faye Compton, as his cover so he
could pass for heterosexual. In his published diary of the making of the film, Put Money in Thy Purse,
MacLiammoir goes on to say that Welles Iago has a hero s crush on Othello, and becomes upset and
jealous as a hurt lover when Othello gives a promotion to Cassio, played by Michael Laurence, instead
of him. To add insult to injury, Othello is rumored to have slept with a frustrated Emilia. In Welles
version, both the director and Iago buy this motive. When Iago sees Othello and Cassio, played by
Derek Jacobi, joined together as brothers, it is too much for Iago. According to Brode, Welles was
adamant that MacLiammoir, appear, with the help of makeup and performance, to be castrated (155).
Welles shot Othello on location in North Africa and Europe, and his use of camera angles and the
outdoor scenery is striking, as Jack F. Forgens notes:
Shapes on the screen are less and less easily recognizable: compositions are tense, full of diagonals

Genetic Down Syndrome
The genetic structure that humans possess is complex, each individual s genetic makeup is unique and
different, yet functions similarly. However, not all people are gifted with a perfectly normal genetic
structure. A person may suffer from genetic defects, which are irregularities in the genome. In the field
of biology, genetic aberrations are not rare cases. According to a surveillance system called
Metropolitan Atlanta Congenital Defects Program, genetic birth defects, affect approximately 3% of
childbirths in the United States. (MMWR, 2008) This means that over 120,000 newborn babies are
affected by genetic defects in a span of one year, in the United States alone. (NVSS, 2015)

Around 5300 babies with Down syndrome are born in the United States each year, and approximately
200,000 people in this country have the condition. (de Graaf G, Buckley F, Skotko BG, 2016). While
Down syndrome cannot be inherited, the number of babies with Down syndrome born each year is
alarming. Despite the fact that Down syndrome can be detected before birth, there is no known way to
cure it. As such, the parents whose child have been diagnosed to have Down syndrome have to decide
whether to keep the child or not.
Parenting has never been easy, and it is made harder if the child is affected by Down syndrome. Most
of the time, when parents are informed that their child has Down syndrome, they are stricken with
grief, depression, hopelessness, and the likes. (Preidt, 2010). Having a child affected by such mental
illnesses may make it hard for parents to deal with their children, since any shortcomings may lead to
a miserable life for their child. But even with Down syndrome, a child is still a child, and can still be
brought up to live a happy life if parented correctly.
This study aims to relay the experiences of a parent who has a child with Down syndrome to people
who are not aware of what they go through. The researchers seek to improve the general knowledge of
the public about having a kid with Down

The Cholera Spread In London In The 19th Century
The cholera has been the most terrifying disease spreading in London in the middle of nineteenth
century, which is an infection caused by strains of the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. In the summertime
of 1854 London was known as one of the most advanced and fashionable cities in the world with
almost 2.5 million people living there. Because of the overpopulation, the city was having a difficult
time to provide basic needs for the residents. According to Johnson (2006) the biggest existing

from Broad Street Pump on their way to work or school. Johnson (2006) says, Many Soho residents
who lived closer to other pumps one on Rupert Street and another on Little Marlborough opted to
walk an extra few blocks for the refreshing taste of Broad Street`s water. It was colder than the water
found at the rival pumps; it had a pleasant hint of carbonation (p.30). He also discovered that there
was not a single death recorded among the workers at Lion Brewery on Broad Street. They were rarely
seen to drink water from the pump because of the liquor they received as a part of their wages

widow Susanna Eley who used to live in Broad Street, but after a while she moved to Hampstead
(Johnson, 2006, p.143). By asking her sons Snow found out that she drank the Broad Street water as

In John 1:29 (New International Version), He is known as The Lamb of God , and many other
passages in the Bible. One of the things the author of this poem wants people to know is that lambs are
sweet and gentle. By saying that, he is also stating that God is sweet and gentle as well.
In the first stanza, the speaker asks who the lamb s creator is; however, the answer is not told until the
end of the poem. Here is where one would find a physical description of the lamb, which is seen as a
pure and gentle creature. In the second stanza, however, the lamb is compared with baby Jesus, as well
as between the lamb and the speaker s soul. In the last two lines of the poem, the speaker identifies the
creator as God. It seems that Blake asks who made thee in one of his other poems, which is known as
a companion to The Lamb, and it is called The Tiger. Blake likes to question who could be responsible
for these creations.
The speaker of the poem makes a direct reference to Jesus from the Bible in line seventeen. The child
speaker said, He became a child. Jesus, the Son of God, was sent down from Heaven to be born of a
virgin. Jesus took the form of a child because just like a lamb, they resemble innocence, peace, and
gentleness. Christ is peace, gentle, caring, complex, and simple at the same time. Jesus is also known
as a sacrificial lamb because He died on the cross for everyone s sins. John 1: 29 states, The next day

pesar de que entre ellos existe una distancia entre la comunicación, se revela en como la música puede
unirlos. En esta estancia se relata cómo la música funciona como un tipo de

Evolution Of Ice Hockey
Fans in the crowds experience all the exciting and nail biting moments each game with modern sports
such as hockey. Throughout the years an evolution in the game has been witnessed; there has been
new technologies introduced to the equipment, near death experiences, bias from various sports fields,
and new implementation of rules to the game as the years progressed. The true satisfaction of not only
being a hockey fan, but a soccer fanatic myself is watching teams come together, and strive to
complete the objective in a proper healthy way; where violence is seen less as a necessity and more as
a catalyst to bring the crowds to their feet with excitement and emotions. Ice hockey was founded
around the 1880 s, and during its early stages people played the game outdoors, using equipment for
warmth rather than protection. As time; progressed the NHL was stablished, games were played
indoor, and the use of helmets was made mandatory by the organization. Leather and felt were largely

Processing firearms evidence is just one of many jobs in the field of forensic technology. When it
comes to collecting and processing firearms evidence at a crime scene there are a strict set of rules and
procedures that need to be followed. There are also different types of firearms that can be used in
committing a crime and that can be found at crime scenes if the firearm is left behind.
The most common types of firearms that are used in crimes are semi automatic pistols, and revolvers.
There are different types of semi auto pistols and revolvers out there, which are but not limited to .38,

Let us start on how to collect and process expended projectiles and cartridge casings. When collecting
expended casings, projectiles and remnants of shotgun ammunition each one should be numbered,
photographed and measured for placement in a crime scene sketch (Tina Young, 2011). Each one
collected should be placed in a pillbox or coin envelope then those should be placed into bigger
envelopes or bags (Tina Young, 2011). If a projectile is stuck in a wall the section of the wall where
the projectile is located should be removed (Tina Young, 2011). If a firearm found at a crime scene the
best way to link it to the crime or other crimes is to test fire it into a water tank or ballistic gel. Once
this has been done, the forensic tech can then compare the bullet and casing using a microscope. (Tina
Young, 2011). If the firearm is not located then the casing or bullet can be ran through the National
Ballistic Database. Now that we have talked about rendering firearms safe and also how they should
be processed, now we can look at what information can be gained from the firearm and the cartridges

Essay about Toll like receptors and their therapeutic...
Cellular Basis Of Disease: Why has the discovery of Toll like receptors revolutionised our
understanding of how the innate immune system works, and what is the therapeutic potential? The
body has two immune systems: the innate immune system and the adaptive immune system. Adaptive,
or acquired, immunity refers to antigen specific defence mechanisms that take several days to become
protective and are designed to react with and remove a specific antigen. This is immunity develops
throughout life. Innate immunity refers to antigen nonspecific defence mechanisms that a host uses
immediately or within several hours after exposure to an antigen. This is the immunity that you are

PRRs recognise molecules that are not associated to human cells (PAMPs). The best characterised
signalling PRRs are the Toll like receptors (TLRs). They are present in plants, invertebrates and
vertebrates, and represent a primitive host defence mechanism against bacteria, fungi and viruses.
There are 13 TLRs that have been discovered in mammals so far, named TLR 1 to TLR 13. TLRs are
primary transmembrane proteins of immune cells, that contain leucine repeats in their extracellular
domains and a cytoplasmic tail that contains a conserved region called the Toll / IL1 receptor (TIR)
domain. The Toll gene was first discovered in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, but has close
homologues in mammalian immune cells. This is where the name Toll like receptor is derived.
Different combinations of TLRs appear in pairs in different cell types. Different TLRs bind directly or
indirectly to different microbial molecules. TLRs found on cell surfaces: a. TLR 1/TLR 2 pairs bind
uniquely bacterial lipopeptides and GPI anchored proteins in parasites b. TLR 2/TL6 pairs bind

Passages From The Gospels Of Mark Matthew Essay
Passages from the Gospels of Mark Matthew Throughout the New Testament Gospels, an abundance
of enriching, soulful narratives thrive and live on through their cultivated messages of hope,
compassion, miracles, and redemption. Recalling in detail the heroic life and journey of Jesus Christ,
expounding his teachings and philosophy, and revealing hidden components of God s divine nature,
the Gospels are rife with symbolism and potent imagery which are accessible to people of every faith.
The timeline of Jesus Christ s life, miracle healings, administered sermons, and selfless service to the
people he met and interacted with is encapsulated in the storyline of four texts within the Christian
Bible which have been juxtaposed with one another. When these are read together, one can observe
many fascinating parallels and similarities that make it difficult to dispute the information or messages
about the life of Jesus Christ which the Gospels disseminate. There are specific passages in the
Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John which reveal the fundamental aspects of what it means to
be a disciple, and furthermore, what it means to be a human being. This essay will address
discipleship and human nature as they appear in three passages, Mark 5: 1 20, Mark 5: 35 43, and
Matthew... By way of thorough examination and formal analysis of the scriptural text, definitions of
what it means to be a true disciple and a true human being will be discussed. In the first passage from

she believed she deserved it. The more Ender kept speaking the more the family began to forgive him.
Then Ender hit them with the big news about Libo being the father of Novinhas kids and all hell broke

out of hand. She Ran. And the chase was one. They called the cat militia and they had helicopters
circling. There must have been really stupid people in Chicago that day or maybe there was a coffee
shortage.Because nobody noticed the commotion. Probably the second thing. It was chaos!
Helicopters were roaring small helicopters of course they were cat sized, there were soldiers
parachuting out of helicopters and the President who was fast but unathletic (like Moí) was running
and panting and the ambassadors were trying to catch up with the president and then there was a faint
sound and everyone stopped. The assassin had disappeared. The Colonel broke the silence. All right
move it men! MOVE IT! Get back in the helicopters everybody and start patrolling the area
Commanders, Scratcher and Ramirez come with me to see the president Move it he s right over there!
Exclaimed the colonel. Suddenly, the mouse President appeared. What a nice military you have he

Stock Characters In Tartuffe
A minor character contributes heavily in a play, particularly by revealing information or giving
additional insight about major characters. Tartuffe, by Molière, is a French satire which is over
exaggerated and critical towards the upper class. It also ridicules hypocrisy and the upper class.
Molière s unique choice of using stock characters contributes to the technical development of the
work. Specifically, Dorine holds the role of the Zanni, the servant who provides comedic relief.
Madame Pernelle fits the category of the Pantalone because despite being a woman, she is wealthy
and an upperclassman, meaning she s at the top of the social pyramid. Orgon fits into the category of
the Dottore, as he is the head of the household and also at the top of the social pyramid. While,
Tartuffe is a hypocritical character identified as the Capitano of the play. He convinces Orgon and
Madame Pernelle that he is a devoutly pious and humble man, but behind his facade he is an ... Show

Without her, the motif of the truth about Tartuffe would not be revealed. Dorine is the person who
expresses through satire much of the exasperation the audience feels. From the beginning of the play,
we become acquainted with the truth about Tartuffe being a hypocrite, through Dorine. In Act I, Scene
I Dorine says, if anyone were to listen to him and believe in his maxims, one could not do anything
without committing a sin; for he controls everything, this carping critic . Through dialogue, Dorine
exposes Tartuffe to the audience. This affects our perception of Tartuffe, we become aware of who
Tartuffe really is and what his natural character is like. Dorine not being in the play would minimize
this opportunity for us as an audience. Dorine plays a very significant role in Tartuffe; if she wasn t a
part of the play, the audience would have a harder time navigating the motif of truth within

Poverty In Canada Essay
Poverty can be defined as a state of being extremely poor, not having the ability to own any
possessions of their own. When looking at the global economy as a whole, it becomes very ostensible
that the majority of people living in poverty is women and children. All over the world millions of
women and children are living in poverty. Whether we are looking at a developed country or a less
developed country, it is adamant. Between the different countries there are many different reasons on
why an increase in poverty has occurred but the consequences that are left from poverty is all the
same. Poverty has increased tremendously over the last decade in many countries, developed or less
developed. Poverty can be caused by many different factors, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Extremes differ around the world but for fact in developed and developing countries the amount of
women living in poverty is adamant. Looking at the developing countries Canada and India provides
different ways of looking at poverty and how poverty is identified. Through Canada women deal with
poverty when their income is below the poverty line or they are using over half of their income on
necessities to live. In India women are encountering human poverty, which is being without basic
needs creating factors such as illiteracy, malnutrition, early death, poor health care and no access to
clean water. Despite some differences between the two countries economies, women in both Canada
and India face similar issues with poverty The poverty of women in Canada and India is increasing as
a result of globalization, social policies that neglect women, inequality in employment, and existing
gender based social repression (Argiropoulos and Rajagopal 2003:612). The inequality of employment
is a major cause of poverty, once women have to enter the workforce an increase in feminization in the
workforce has taken place. Women are then segregated into the certain areas in the workforce, which
often pay less and demand a less amount of skill

Homelessness Issues In Canada
The Problem:
We have experienced many homelessness issues here in Canada. Recently, in 2014, the Canadian
Observatory on Homelessness estimated that almost 35,000 Canadians were homeless every night and
an estimated 235,000 Canadians experience homelessness each year. Many Canadians meet the
requirements for hidden homelessness. The requirements include: sheltered people and families who
temporarily live in their relative s homes in order to avoid living on streets; women and children
experiencing domestic violence; people sleeping in abandoned buildings and families living in
unsustainable housing due to evacuations. Unfortunately, here in Ontario, we have one of the highest
rates of homelessness for a major province in Canada.
For instance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, the table indicates that VAW and family shelters experience less than 6 months of
homelessness. After analyzing the needs of the homeless people in our community, our province have
decided to implement laws and regulations to make housing accessible and affordable for all
Ontarians.
Solution:
This is not the first time that we have worked to achieve affordable housing. In fact, in 2003, we
invested in more than $4 billion for social housing. Now, we are determined to invest more and create
more sustainable housing to ensure that homelessness will not be an issue in the future.
Our goal is to end homelessness in 10 years by creating a framework for a portable housing for people
to receive housing assistance flexibility to choose where to live. For this reason, we are proposing
legislation for inclusionary zoning because it would enable municipalities to ensure affordable
housing. Ontario has updated the Long Term Affordable Strategy legislation, which was implemented
in 2010, because we want to implement people centered housing program and provide municipalities
with flexibility to meet local needs in the community. We are introducing new legislative and policy
measures by investing $178 million over the

Stonewall Uprisings
During the mid 1900 s, New York City s queer citizens were discriminated against and faced an anti
gay system. The Stonewall Uprisings were a set of raids and riots in the 1960 s that took place for six
days involving thousands of people in Greenwich Village. They were the result of hundreds of years
of discrimination and violence against gay and transgender people in America as well as the influence
of new thinkers like the writers of the Beat Generation who were trying to express their individuality
and unconventional thinking. Because of this movement, gay liberation and the fight for modern
LGBT rights in the United States changed. Activist groups formed and were inspired to find safe
places for them to express their sexual orientation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though there was a change and an awareness on the LGBT community, many people still didn t
accept homosexuals. Gay individuals still faced discrimination, verbal abuse and physical violence.
Despite this, the LGBT community continued to raise awareness and advocate for their rights. In
2011, the Marriage Equality Act which legalized same sex marriage for New York residents, was
signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo, making New York the 6th state to legalize same sex marriage. It
was said by many people including some religious leaders that this was a threat to traditional
heterosexual marriage and family, Marriage is a fundamental good that must be protected in every
circumstance. Exemptions of any kind never justify redefining marriage. ...[it]...affirms the vital and
unique importance to children of receiving care from both their mother and father together. ... Making
marriage law indifferent to the absence of either sex creates an institutional and cultural crisis with
generational ramifications yet to be seen .The LGBT community rejected those statements and
developed legal arguments to battle the entrenched discrimination. Furthermore, the LGBT
community began to hold a pride parade on the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. This occurs in
New York and other major cities around the world at the end of

The Importance Of Treatment For Bulimia Nervosa
This paper demonstrates the significance of treatment for Bulimia Nervosa as well as which way of
treatment is best for Bulimia. The purpose of this research is to analyze the best treatments for
Bulimia Nervosa. More emphasis on the question, is Bulimia Nervosa best treated with Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy or with antidepressants such as Adapin or Prozac? Furthermore, in the paper the
results will indicate the efficacy of treatment of which method of treatment is best for Bulimia.
Bulimia Nervosa is characterized by The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as
eating in a discrete period, of time (e.g., within any two hour period), and amount of food that is
definitely larger than what most individuals would eat in a similar period of time under similar
circumstances (DSM (5th ed., [DSM 5], American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). It can also
be characterized as a sense of lack of control over eating during the episode (e.g., a feeling that one
cannot stop eating or control what or how much one is eating) (DSM (5th ed., [DSM 5], American
Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). Bulimia was known to be very difficult to treat when it first
was acknowledged (Hudson, Pope, Harrison Jonas, 1983). Fortunately today it can be treated by drug
or cognitive therapy. Since that time, a vast variety of treatments have been looked into, and since then
two approaches have been known to establish efficacy (Hudson, et al.). One is cognitive behavioral
therapy.

The Characters In Tim O Brien s The Go-Between In the authors introduction, the author made it clear that his intended purpose for displaying the characters, Marian and Ted, was for the reader to judge them harshly, but at the end the reader felt sorry and sympathetic for the characters. The author, when writing The Go between, wanted the reader not to know which character to feel sorry for. In contrast, the reader said it was quite obvious that Marian was the one Hartley disapproved. They saw that she represented life s riches and complexity. The reader was sympathetic because of the situation Marian was in. Marian was under great pressure from her mother to marry a Lord Trimingham, a man she does not want to marry. • 4. Going To A Magnet School I remember back in fifth grade when we were taught almost every day to say no to peer pressure. The idea of saying no seemed liked the easiest thing to accomplish back then, but as I grew older, I realized nothing is as easy as it seems. I was at that age where life changing decisions were to be made. It was that time of the year when students in 8th grade pondered upon themselves deciding on different high schools to spend four years in. I d like to describe myself as a very simple person. So going to a normal high school, that s close to my house with almost half of the people from middle school sounded like the best decision ever. It was however, deemed as a bogus decision to everyone around me. That s when this horrific peer pressure incident happened. When I told my friends and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every day, we would start off with the same conversation with them asking me if I was still going to that crappy school. It would then continue on with them listing the advantages of a magnet school. I would then go home and have my family nag me constantly for my decision. Our dinner conversations consisted mostly of my parents and brother trying to convince me to go to a magnet school out of fear that I might fall victim to drugs and violence at a normal high school. When it came to peer pressure, all I had to say was no and leave, right? Let me just say that it is by far the hardest thing to say especially when you have a pack of desperate people trying to play tug of war with you. • 6. Fate In Joseph Campbell s The Alchemist Many people live their lives believing that their lives are driven by fate; that their hopes and dreams ultimately have no impact on how their lives will turn out. This, however, does not hold true when one considers the paths taken by those who follow their own dreams and desires. When one examines the lives of people and characters who follow their dreams, one can realize that life is not guided by fate, but by the desires of one s heart. In The Alchemist, Santiago s life is guided by his dreams and desires, not his fate. In the beginning of the novel, Santiago was studying to be a priest, but he forgoes his education in order to follow his dream of traveling the world. Though many as a foolish decision would have seen this, as priests were well respected and shepherds were not, Santiago does as he desires, not what he is told will be the most advantageous. By stressing the importance of divine power s influence over one s mind, Campbell in rejecting the notion of fate, for if fate were present the dominant divinity would not be necessary. • 7. Business Overview Of Shani A Franchise Or Open An... Business Type Depending on her level of comfort and desire of business freedom, Shania can pursue a franchise or open an independent coffeehouse. One business brings market ready supplies and the other requires greater diligence in planning and management. Opening a franchise brings a brand name and materials to a business to produce instant recognition and bring in brand loyal consumers. A franchise creates a business relationship with a franchisor to bring a brand name, trade dress, and trademark to a franchisee (Kubasek et al., 2015, p. 431). In turn for the franchise material and name, the franchisee pays a percentage of sales to the franchisor (Kubasek et al., 2015, p. 431). As reported in 2011, franchising was so popular that it was the genesis of one of every 12 retail businesses in the United States (Welsh, Desplaces, Davis, 2011, p. 4). A weakness of owning a franchise was reported by Perrigot, Hussain, and Windsperger (2015) where franchisees have to strictly follow operating manuals and almost all of the strategic decisions are made at the franchisor level (p. 696). Although it does have a curtailed degree of freedom, a franchise brings greater stability with a proven business style and support system. On the contrary, an independent operation is different in that there are no trade materials or products; however, there is greater freedom to operate (Perrigot, Hussain, Windsperger, 2015, pp. 700 701). • 8. The Book Thhief By Sylvia Plath Death is inevitable. Sylvia Plath, author of 1962 confessional poem, Lady Lazarus and Markus Zusak author of 2005 historical fiction novel, The Book Thief explore the idea that a range influences ultimately determine a person s final destiny. Zusak and Plath discuss this common idea by utilising various literary techniques complementing the conventions of their respective text types. Both authors highlight a range of key ideas such as, the idea that patriarchal standards within society impact the protagonist s fate, the social influence relationships have on individuals and the effect this has on their fate and the inevitable role death plays and the controlling influence death has on life within their respective pieces. Sylvia Plath and Markus Zusak both challenge the idea that patriarchal standards within society influence the protagonist s fate in their texts. Sylvia Plath s Lady Lazarus is a reaction to the oppressive nature of the patriarchy surrounding Plath during the early sixties. Lady Lazarus reveals Plath s feelings of resentment in this semi autobiographical poem that grew from her feeling trapped in a cyclical and oppressive environment. Plath employs allusion to the biblical tale of Lazarus where she describes a, grave cave where she felt, at home. This captures Plath s resentment towards the patriarchy as she feels that if she does not succumb to her desire to commit suicide and thus control her fate, she will have to conform to the patriarchal ... • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Labor Relations In the U.S. labor relations, a group of employees who desire to bargain collectively rather than individually, are those who typically form a union (Dooley, 1957). This demonstrates to the employer that the majority of its employees support the union and the organizing process begins. First, employees cannot form a union without abiding by certain basic procedural steps and legal standards that are required. Decisions to vote against or for a union are based on factors such as satisfaction with their job, beliefs of the effectiveness of the union, and the culture or social environment in which the employee works. Next, when an employer exerts undue punishment to an employee who the employer suspects as being an illegal alien, this may be poor public policy. From a legal perspective, a recent federal court case, Singh v. Jutla C.D. R. Oil, Inc., 214 F. Supp. 2d 1056 (N.D. Cal. 2002) spoke to this issue. In this case, when the plaintiff Singh filed a wage claim under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the employer fired him and reported him to INS as an illegal alien (Labor Law, 1969). Likewise, the union certification process which was established by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) in 1935 was a victory for workers waning union representation upon its initial implementation. Workers could petition the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for a determination made democratically of whether a majority of workers favored unionization (Labor Law, 1969). This effort ... Wgu Human Resources Task 1 Dear Mr. Smith, Upon investigation in to the claim of constructive discharge under the Title VII Civil Rights Act of 1964 my research found this claim to be irrelevant and unjustified. A constructive discharge happens when an employee is legally justified in claiming that he/she was forced to resign because the employer has made working conditions intolerable. In our situation a complaint was never filed with the company letting us know the employee was unhappy or giving us the opportunity to respond to the situation. Therefore the company was unaware of creating an intolerable working condition for that employee and we did not intentionally do it. The company experienced growth so the production schedule changed for all employees. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We would need to review and make sure that all the appropriate measures are being taken in a timely manner if someone complains about their working environment. Specific steps and procedures need to be followed to protect our company and our employees. In Pennsylvania State Police v. Suders (2004) the Supreme Court found that in order to establish constructive discharge a plaintiff must show that the environment was so intolerable that resigning was the only option. But the court also found that the plaintiff failed to avail herself of the internal reporting procedures as she resigned two days after mentioning harassment to an official. The case supports our position of not guilty because the employee who is filing charges against us did not follow the company s internal reporting procedures. This would have allowed us to meet with the employee to see if we could come to an agreeable solution. Internal reporting procedures are there to protect everyone involved. My final recommendation would be to make a statement to the employee filing charges against us to inform them know that we are aware of the Code of Federal Regulations (Guidelines on discrimination because of religion, 2009) and that we are willing to work with the individual to find a solution. If the employee dropped the charges and came back to work for us then there are a number of accommodations we would suggest such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Understanding Fate, Women, And Oaths Understanding Fate, Women, and Oaths in The Franklin s Prologue and Tale From a Comparison with The Knight s Tale The Franklin s Tale narrates the romantic conflict between Dorigene, a distressed maiden, Arveragus, a meke knight (739), and Aurelius, a besotted squire. Although Dorigene and Arveragus are contently married, Aurelius continues to court Dorigene and attempts to win her over by removing alle the rokkes, stoon by stoon (993) from the coast of Brittany. When Aurelius informs Dorigene that he has successfully vanished the rocks, she realizes she is bound to been [his] love (990) by a promise made in pley , and bemoans her situation for a day or tweye : Allas! quod she, that ever was I born!/ Thus have I seyd, quod she, thus have I sworn . (Franklin s Tale. 1463 64). The first part of this couplet is extraordinary passive and demonstrates Dorigene s belief that human lives are fated from birth. On the other hand, the active syntax of the second line suggests that Dorigene has agency over her words and her promise and assumes partial responsibility for her situation. The tonal gap between the two halves captures a contradiction in Dorigene s lament that is replicated and magnified in The Franklin s Tale . Although the Franklin attempts to quit with The Knight s Tale and presents his characters as equally dependent on fate and the gods, he overgoes his social superior by emphasizing ideas that the Knight ignores or otherwise undermines ... • 16. Dehumanization In The Handmaid s Tale (ADD HOOK) the Republic of Gilead dehumanizes its citizens by allowing officials to abuse their power while in their roles. This leads to destroying the order in society. To begin, the Republic of Gilead was formed after the president of the United States was assassinated; It was after the catastrophe, when they shot the President and machine gunned the Congress and the army declared a state of emergency (Atwood, 200). This proves that even before the revolution began that power was being abused and that it was being used to destruct society. This novel widely speaks upon women s rights issues and problems within their society; this therefore shows the dehumanization of citizens. This is shown when the constitution had been abolished and the president had been shot. All the female workers are replaced by a male counterpart. This is shown when she says; When I got to the corner store, the usual woman wasn t there. Instead it was a man... (Atwood, 202). As Offred continues her recounting of this event she explains that when her credit card was not working. She then, continues to recount these events and says that calls her work and nobody answers. Her boss later explains that it is the law that he must fire all female workers: I have to let you go, he said. It s the law, I have to. I have to let you all go. He said this almost gently as if we were wild animals, frogs he d caught in a jar, as if he were being humane.... Not fired, he said. Let go (Atwood, 203 204). In the novel firing the female workers becomes a must and by doing this the government dehumanizes the women in the Republic of Gilead it is inhumane and misogynistic. This contributes to the destruction of society because, women are a part of society so using radical tactics to make womens role in society insignificant. Although, this isn t where the sexism ends. Moreover, the women in this novel only exist in relation to men. Everything a woman does is for a man, if a woman is taking care of a Handmaid they are only doing it to take care of her so she is able to satisfy the mens needs. She says I am a national resource. • 18. Media Self Esteem At times, it can be hurtful when we do not get that attention that our friends get on social media as this makes us feel as if we are nothing in this world. Michelle Linker can be equated with approval or self esteem as she was a daily user of Instagram. She told her guardian that she feels anxiety over the likes she got after she posted her pictures on his Instagram page. She said that she got only two likes and she would ask herself what was really wrong with her. This greatly influenced her and lowered her self esteem because she felt low and considered herself as a child of a lesser God compared to her followers. In reality, when we all post something such as pictures of our own and don t get a lot of likes, we always feel rejected which ultimately causes our self esteem to take a hit. This will always affect our mind as a lot of question will ring each moment why we can be rejected. When we get likes on our pages of Instagram or Facebook, the reward system in the brain is activated, and thus releases dopamine, which causes individuals to associate likes with the same pleasure we may get or feel from taking narcotics or any other drug that when you take, you feel well (Lin et al. 326). Ernest Rohm was a German military officer and founding member of the Nazi party, making him a close companion and early ally of Adolf Hitler. But, by 1934, Hitler had come to see him as a potential rival and had him executed during the Night of the Long Knives. The historical context of Germany in Rohm s rise in power was what thrust him into the position of high power and authority. In a time of a fractured Germany, the Treaty of Versailles had reduced the German army to just 100,000 men, which was something that greatly angered all of the German officials, including Rohm. Therefore, Rohm notoriously fought against the communists who had taken over Munich in 1919, using brutality in order to eliminate the communists and socialists that helped, along with others, to destabilize the early years of the Weimar Republic. • 25. Race in Five Film Versions of Shakespeare s Othello Essay... William Shakespeare s Othello is only moderately interested in questions of race and racism. For Shakespeare, Othello s blackness was mainly a plot device. Though the bard did demonstrate concerns about racial and religious prejudice, in Othello and The Merchant of Venice, his interest in the tragedy of the Moor was principally psychological. For Shakespeare and his contemporary audience, Othello was about jealousy, hatred, and vindictiveness. The play has aged well, as have all Shakespeare s plays, but not, perhaps, in the ways Shakespeare s contemporaries would have predicted. In Shakespeare s time, it would have been acceptable for Othello to kill his wife, had she truly been unfaithful. What made Othello a tragic criminal to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Douglas Brode states, Wells was fully aware that Shakespeare had been a pre Freudian psychologist (154). Brode adds that, in the early 1950s when the psychological film was at its peak, Othello served Welles interest in Freudian psychology (154 155). According to Michael MacLiammoir, who plays Iago to Welles lead, Welles believed Iago was impotent and a closet homosexual who married Emilia, played by Faye Compton, as his cover so he could pass for heterosexual. In his published diary of the making of the film, Put Money in Thy Purse, MacLiammoir goes on to say that Welles Iago has a hero s crush on Othello, and becomes upset and jealous as a hurt lover when Othello gives a promotion to Cassio, played by Michael Laurence, instead of him. To add insult to injury, Othello is rumored to have slept with a frustrated Emilia. In Welles version, both the director and Iago buy this motive. When Iago sees Othello and Cassio, played by Derek Jacobi, joined together as brothers, it is too much for Iago. According to Brode, Welles was adamant that MacLiammoir, appear, with the help of makeup and performance, to be castrated (155). One of the things the author of this poem wants people to know is that lambs are sweet and gentle. By saying that, he is also stating that God is sweet and gentle as well. In the first stanza, the speaker asks who the lamb s creator is; however, the answer is not told until the end of the poem. Here is where one would find a physical description of the lamb, which is seen as a pure and gentle creature. In the second stanza, however, the lamb is compared with baby Jesus, as well as between the lamb and the speaker s soul. In the last two lines of the poem, the speaker identifies the creator as God. It seems that Blake asks who made thee in one of his other poems, which is known as a companion to The Lamb, and it is called The Tiger.
