The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Essay
Adolescents experience a developmental journey as they transition from child to adult, and in doing
so are faced with many developmental milestones. Physical, cognitive, social and emotional
changes are occurring during this tumultuous stage of life, and making sense of one s self and
identity becomes a priority. Sherman Alexie s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian
addresses the challenges of adolescence in an engaging tale, but deals with minority communities
and cultures as well. Establishing an identity has been called one of the most important milestones
of adolescent development (Ruffin, 2009). Additionally, a central part of identity development
includes ethnic identity (ACT for Youth, 2002). While some teens search... Show more content on

Not only is Junior unpopular and alienated, but the victim of taunts and bullying as well.
Furthermore, he s considered a traitor after he transfers to Reardon. At Reardon, he s called
names and endures racial jokes until he finally finds acceptance through basketball and
surprisingly finds friends with similar interests. Ultimately, Junior comes to the huge realization
that not only does he belong to the Spokane Indian tribe, but to no less than 13 additional groups
(Basketball players, cartoonists, bookworms, and sons to name a few). It is the first time he
knows that he will be OK , sending a positive message to readers that identify with his struggles.
By reading about characters similar to themselves, young adults can see that their challenges are
not unique and are shared by other adolescents (Bucher Hinton, 2009) Junior s discovery of
identity and place within his world is a predominant theme in the novel and one with which teens
can relate; however, several other young adult characteristics and developmental issues are
addressed as well. Junior and his peers are experiencing a time of rapid physical, hormonal and
cognitive development as are the most likely readers of the book. Like many adolescent girls,
Penelope is concerned with her body appearance and popularity. She is a bulimic attempting to
keep up her pretty and smart and popular (108) image. Junior is concerned with appearances in a
more internal way hiding his

Black Education Issues
The relevance to this study was important because it examines factors that cause withdrawals and
my assist with increasing retention rates. The information collected is significant to all stakeholders
who wish to retain minority students in higher education. Both public and private universities can
stand to increase their knowledge base of how to improve higher education retention for minority
students.
Consequently, this study was significant because it revealed the inequities in college persistence
between universities and among various ethnic groups in selected public and private institutions.
Thus, investigating what caused minority students to persist in college beyond their freshmen year
provided answers as to how the selected universities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

percent in the 2000 census, compared to 85.5 percent for Whites. Also, the percentage of Blacks

Closing achievement gaps is a critical issue. The performance of Blacks is systematically different
from that of other racial and ethnic groups. Decreasing gaps in student achievement means that we
must increase the learning gains of Blacks. This will require the creation of public policies and
legislation that support public schools committed to identifying and setting high, worthwhile, and
attainable goals for students and ensuring that teachers and students are supported in these efforts.
It will also require meaningful collaboration among community organizations and leaders, parents,
and the school. The success of the school must become the success of the

Also we are the one s that want to pay for the wall and so i think that we should be the ones
paying for it. Hillary clinton also has a plan for immigration but it s a little more different. Hillary
will introduce comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to full and equal citizenship
within her first 100 days in office. It will treat every person with dignity, fix the family visa
backlog, uphold the rule of law, protect our borders and national security, and bring millions of
hardworking people into the formal economy. This not agree with due to the fact that there are
people in the United States of America that are bad people. If she were to pass this law then i
could give the bad people citizenship. This will then give them a lot more rights and overall
would be a bad situation to out this country into. Another thing that she plans on doing as soon as
she comes into office is to Do everything possible under the law to protect families. If Congress
keeps failing to act on comprehensive immigration reform, Hillary will enact a simple system for

contribution to their communities, or those who experience extreme labor violations to make their

Hardware and Project Considerations When Implementing A New CRM System The most
effective Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems are deliberately designed to align
and enhance the strategic initiatives and programs of a given business or enterprise. They must
take into account customer preferences, needs and wants as well, and strive to create a foundation
of shared information and insight over time There are a myriad of studies that show how effective
CRM systems are in transforming businesses and making them more customer centric, profitable
and responsive to rapidly changing market requirements. The level of adoption and continued use
of CRM systems also assures a company s culture stays agile enough to respond to changing market
conditions while also keeping the level of expertise and knowledge about customers continually
growing (Chen, Chiu, 2010). Having a single system of record pertaining to all customer
interactions give companies a competitive advantage in that they have greater insight into how
prospects make buying decisions (Wang, Feng, 2012). When implementing a CRM system there are
five critical success factors that are essential to its success and these include cost, risk, scope, time,
and quality. The most effective CRM implementations that deliver the greatest value balance all
five of these factors and synchronize them together to create strategies that deliver consistently
profitable results. These five critical success factors are essential

The Shaping Of Our Country
Celeste Munoz
U.S History I to 1876
Mr. William Stowe
28 November 2014 The shaping of our country has been impacted by several different factors, each
contributing to it in their own way. Four of the major pivot points that occurred consists of:
Jeffersonian democracy, Jacksonian democracy, Civil War/Reconstruction, Revolution/Constitution.
However one of them happened to be the most impacting which was the Civil War and
Reconstruction. The American Civil Waroccurred during 1861 to 1865, lasting only five years.
America s bloodiest clash resulting in the death of approximately 620,000 Americans and
millions more were injured. In the spring of 1861, the north and south began to rise into conflict
over issues like states rights. Other conflicts include federal authority, westward expansion and
slavery. When Lincoln was elected president in 1860, seven states seceded from the union and
they formed the confederate states. After the first shots were fired four more states joined the
confederate states. Abraham s election was the rising point to long debate over the federal and
state governments. The war can be viewed in many ways. One as the final violent stages in a
conflict of two regions. Another as the breakdown of the political system of the Democratic Party
and as the max point of several years of social reform. Or also viewed as the main chapter in
America s racial history. The survival of the U.S as one nation was at risk, and the outcome of the

Women In The Military During World War 1 Essay
World War marked the starting era for in the military. Due to the needed skills to the war effort and
aid soldiers into the battlefield, led the military establishment to call women into service. Although
their call to service was voluntary, held unequal treatment and no benefits, more than 12,000 women
enlisted in the war, and 400 nurses died during World War 1.
During World War, the only branches available to women were the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army and the
Marine Corps. Women served as mostly nurses in the active duty service, both in the Army and
Navy military branches, fields such as the Army Nurse Corps that was established in 1901 and in
the Navy Nurse Corps which was established in 1908. Those who were not nurses, enlisted in the

Since during the World War 1, women held no form of presentation in the legislature. I gather what
was the first obstacle of why there was no women in the government before, reason for this was
due to their inability to vote. Women were not allowed to vote until 1920, a big factor to limited
power and representation in Congress. During the World War 1, important figures in the women s
rights movement help fight fighting for equality, Suffrage leaders Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B.
Anthony, and Lucy Stone pushed for women to gain a new sense of power. The 19th Amendment
to the Constitution, granted women the right to vote two years after the war, Congress granting
women to vote was a step towards women in legislature. It marked a sort of way to change the
political system by voting to change the system. Voting is an essential tool to get women voices
heard, the next step to get more female representation in the government. Following the Ratification
of the 19th Amendment, granting women to vote, 2 years after, Rebecca Felton became the first
women to serve in the U.S Senate in 1922 for four years.
Although women were not allowed to vote during the World War 1, their successful work in World
War played an important impact for expanding American women roles in the military and
developing the military acceptance of women in women service

Social Classes In Australia Essay
Evidence of social classes within societies can be seen throughout many different cultures and
countries. The social classes can be broken up into four categories, the Upper or Elite class
constituting approximately 1% of the population, the Middle class which accounts for around 60%
of the population dependent on the definition, the Working class which consists of approximately
30% of the population since the growth of the Middle classin recent decades and the Under or
Lower class accounting for the remaining 8% of the population (Carl et.al.,2012, p.41 45).
Question 2 was specifically designed to see the percentages of participants in different classes,
allowing them to be compared to these statistics. Within the existence of these social divides the
prevalence of class advantage and disadvantage can be seen in factors of life such as employment,
housing and access to foods.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is also a large number of the Australian population that believes Australia is a class less
society. It has been thought the theme classifying social classes is the social advantages, often
having certain possessions reflecting the values of each different class. These advantages create a
clear distinction between the social divisions (Emmison, 2003). Question 3 asks the participants to
explain what they believe are the determinants of the different social classes, this question is
important as it allows an understanding to be formed of why the participants identify with a certain
class and what needs to be achieved to become a particular class. This questionnaire is intended to

The Message in the Music Essay
The Message in the Music
Music means many different things to many different people. To a listener, a song is sometimes for
four simple minutes of entertainment, but sometimes it is much more. Sometimes, a song is a
message from the artist. This is much the same way from the opposite end of the spectrum. An
artists message can get so complex that it is completely lost on the listener.
This essay is about song analysis. I will be analyzing two songs performed by the same artist but
performed with two different bands. Although performed by different groups, the music is similar
and so is the message. The two bands being examined are Tool and A Perfect Circle. These are
both considered rock bands and work within the same industrial ... Show more content on

The second verse contains the line, You told us you werent afraid to die. Well then, so long. This
line seems to be less criticizing than the first, but still is telling Jesus that after all this time of
preaching how much he would sacrifice, he is now going to have to live up to his promise or to
die for it. Another line in this verse is,Not all martyrs see divinity. But at least you tried. Here, the
singer is almost being sympathetic with Him, saying his cause was a valiant effort and claiming
him to be a martyr, someone who suffers for a cause or sacrifices his or her life for a great
purpose. Although they say that He wont reach the higher state of divinity, they still acknowledge
his effort.
The third verse goes back to the original tone of the song by criticizing the Lord, this time by
saying that he blamed all things that were evil on other people. This is expressed though the line,
Ranting and pointing his finger. At everything but his heart. The part about his heart doesnt come
off as an emotional or spiritual metaphor, but rather a literal accusation that He never turned the
blame on Himself and always pointed His finger away.
It is in the forth verse when the artist turns from speaking about Jesus in a third person to the first
person. To me, this is more personal and angry than the first three verses. In these three lines, the
artist claims that Jesus had told him something, maybe

Melba s Warriors Don T Cry
In the book, Warriors Don t Cry, the author outlines her controversial journey through Central
High. Starting on September 3rd, 1957, Melba s life was changed forever. Through trials
unbearable to most people, Melba and the other eight students chosen to integrate Central High
stood tall and persevered. Though their journey was harrowing, they survived and set a turning
point that has forever changed our history. By showing examples of the attitudes of the people on
Melba s life, the author helps further develop the setting. With a well developed setting comprised
of many characters that changed Melba s view on people, the reader better understands the trials
she faced and how she felt about said trials. By using examples of how a typical African American
person was treated, the reader can clearly see that integration was going to be a challenge. The

The Media Causes Eating Disorders Essay
According to the National Eating Disorder Association the media has a major influence on what
a woman s body should look like. Every print and television advertisement suggests that the ideal
body is extremely thin. However, most women cannot achieve having a super thin body that the
media favors. The resulting failure leads to negative feelings about one s self and can begin a
downward spiral toward an eating disorder (National Eating Disorders Association). A particularly
disturbing fact is that research has demonstrated that children as young as five years of age are
experiencing body imagerelated anxiety. At the same time there has been a major increase in

Magazines that are targeted toward adolescent girls focus on the importance of being viewed as
sexy by men and focusing on the way your body looks. Studies have shown that adolescents who
frequently read fashion magazines are two to three times more likely to diet based on the
articles in the magazine. Pipher states that research shows that women are ashamed of their
bodies. Young girls starting at age ten are embarrassed of their bodies. It used to be only older
women ha body image issues. Beauty, according to American society is an image of a woman just
short of starvation (Mary Pipher, People Magazine, 6/3/96). Strasburger supports her argument
that the media is to blame by using a study that was done in Fiji. A natural field experiment in Fiji
revealed that the eating disorder rate increased dramatically after American television shows, which
show excessively thin female lead characters, were introduced. There are also now over 100 pro
anorexia Web sites on the Internet that not only encourage disordered eating but also offer specific
advice on purging, severely restricting caloric intake, and exercising excessively (Strasburger).
Recent studies have shown that adolescent girls describe the ideal girl as being 5 7 , 100 pounds,
size 5, with long blonde hair and blue eyes (Developmental...Eating Disorders, Section 2, Chapter

The Demonstration And Variance Of The Iodine Clock Reaction
The demonstration and variance of the iodine clock reaction displays principles of equilibrium, and
rate of reaction, all affected by change in concentration and temperature. In order to properly
examine rates of reaction, one must first understand the principles of chemical kinetics. Reaction
kinetics deals with the rates of chemical processes; that is the behaviour of particles within a
solution. The study of chemical kineticsis of upmost importance in chemical research, as it is a
powerful tool for determining the reaction mechanism (scilearn.sydney.edu.au). In order to
determine this mechanism, we must identify the elementary steps within the reaction itself.
Any chemical process may be broken down into elementary processes, or ... Show more content on

Reaction Rate
Speed of a chemical reaction may be defined as the change in concentration of the products per unit
time. (chem.libretexts). A rate law expresses the reaction rate as a function of the concentration of
each reactant. The rate at any instant is proportional to the product of the molar concentrations of
the reactants, each concentration raised to an experimentally determined exponent. For a general
equation of the form aA+bB = cC + dD; the rate law is in the form
Rate= k[A]ЛЈ [B]Кё . Many reactions, like the Landolt Iodine clock, have multiple steps, and
therefore the exponents do not necessarily correspond to the coefficients of the overall equation, as
is traditionally the case with rate law calculations. The reaction order is the exponent to which the
concentration of that species is raised, and it indicates to what extent the rate affects the rate of
reaction, as well as which species has the greatest effect (chem.libretexts, 2017). In order to
calculate the order of the reaction, graphs can be plotted under the principles of the integrate rate
law. This can be done with the recorded concentration and time values, obtained via our
experimental procedures.
The rate law for a first order reaction is known as rate = dy/dx = k [A]. which integrates to give:
ln[A]= kt + ln[A] в‚Ђ.
This form is useful because of its parallel to the linear equation: y = mx + c

My Visit to the Colorado River Last spring, I had the opportunity to visit the Colorado River, one
of the most beautiful rivers of the country. It was a sunny afternoon and I rented a row boat from
Bullhead city to cruise the river because, I did not want the noise of a motorboat to distract me
from enjoying the immense beauty of nature. The first thing that I noticed when I started rowing
was the slow, steady, and languid flow of the water. This continual flow is charming enough to
amaze any person. It just keeps rolling on and it flows murmuring by to join the vast expanse of
the ocean. The soft sound of the waves was a treat to hear. I touched the water with my hand and
the temperature was perfect. There were various kinds of watercrafts (from inner tubes to large
motor boats) of different colors in the river. But thankfully, it was not too crowded. Moreover,
there were different types of businesses (from boat rental to seafood restaurants) along the
shoreline. When my boat was near the shore, I could even smell the yummy Crab Cakes and

a professional psychological evaluation on May 2013 which confirmed that I struggled with
high levels of generalized anxiety, as seen by the provided documentation. Some early life
events have caused unpleasant subconscious feelings of fear and worry especially in regards to
school. Two of my three lower level course withdrawals here at UNF were taken during this
medical withdrawal period in fall 2013 as a transient student. I was trying to manage my anxiety
just recently having discovered my diagnoses and unfortunately had to withdraw from both Algebra
Based Physics and Calculus III. I was listed as a transient student and slated to return to my
previous institution, so I sadly did not report the reasons for my withdrawal being paralyzing
anxiety. I have been attending University

IB Physics Internal Assessment

Research Question
In this internal assessment, I am given a cantilever to find the physical properties of it. I decide to
investigate the relationship between the force I act on one side of the cantilever and the maximum
acceleration the tail can reach. This experiment will be also showing the elasticity of the
cantilever. Since I pull down one side of it and fixed the other side, when I cut the string, it will
bounce up and down until all the internal energy is depleted.

Effects Of Inspiration In Edgar Allan Poe
Title: Finding Inspiration Through Catastrophe Edgar Allan Poe once said, With me, poetry has not
been a purpose, but a passion. When stressed, literature was his coping mechanism, and through
observation, many grasp how much death encompassed Poe. Although not appreciated during his
era, he revolutionized mystery with mesmerizing story plots that yield suspense but also make
readers question his stability. Most importantly, unlike those famous during his lifetime, Poe s
legacy will live on. Moreover, throughout life, Poe experienced catastrophes, and because of this,
writing became his creative outlet. Poe parents, Elizabeth and David, both aspiring actors, died
when he was three. Although he remembered them briefly, their demise altered his outlook on life.
Nevertheless, refuge found him through John and Francis Allan, who accepted his ambitions with
reluctance as they envisioned him managing the family business. While growing up, they urged
him again and again in leaning towards another career, but his passions outweighed their
gratification. Since he remained stubborn, they provided him with little support during college
years. Consequently, Poe fell into a large amount of debt and began gambling. Therefore, stricken
by destitution and humiliated, he quit school and traveled home, only to discover his girlfriend
with another man. Overall, Poe s youth was marked by ill fated events which became the building
blocks for his writing. For instance, in The Cask of

Persuasive Essay On Family Vacation
Approximately 33% or a third of all families in the United States will go on a family vacation
this year. Family vacations when you break it down is entirely for the parents. Parents and their
children are stressed during the school year, whether it s providing for the family or homework.
Family vacations may be stress reducing or enhancing depending on where you go, who you re
going with, and why you re going. Where you go can influence how your trip will be. If you go
to an amusement park, such as Disneyland, you should expect to have some enhancement of
stress due to lines, prices, or poor weather. However, if you are one of the individuals that get all
sun and no lines, then you might enjoy yourselves. If you are traveling to a relative s house or
town, you may feel more relaxed if you like said relatives. However, if you have too many
relatives or don t like said relatives, you may become even more stressed than before you left. If
you travel to another state or outside the country you are more likely to be relaxed if you go to
your native language speaking country or region. My family has traveled outside of our home
multiple times before, and we have even lived in a whole other continent, with different cultures
and scenes, in Singapore. From Singapore, you have a wider range of places to go for cheaper
than in the United States. My favorite places to travel have been New Zealand and the
Philippines so far. When my family travels for fun, most of the time we end up enjoying
ourselves if it s planned well. The major problem with traveling outside of the country, and even
states, is the time difference. Jetlag, or time difference, is when your body is accustomed to
your home s time zone and when you travel and there is a time difference your body does not
adjust for what experts say one day for every hour difference. Compared to Texas the Philippines
has a fourteen hour time difference, and New Zealand has a nineteen hour time difference. Jetlag
can also affect your overall enjoyment of a family vacation because you have to be awake and not
irritable in order to have fun. On the other hand, vacationing is not about where you go, but who
you go with. People who vacation have a multitude of reasons to do

due to revolutionaries attempting to form a new government based on the freedom for citizens. In
order to achieve this, they went through extreme measures to reach their goal and were responsible

The Hurt Locker By Kathryn Bigelow
In classical Hollywood cinema, style, space, and time are unified and uninterrupted. These
elements come together to match the viewer s sense of time and space in reality. This is achieved
through the use of many techniques such as the 180 degree rule, point of view shots, a lack of
jump cuts, and other unobtrusive filmmaking techniques. Using these techniques allow the
audience to associate with the main characters in the film. For example, the use of point of view
shots allow the viewer to see the action from the characters perspectives giving the audience a
sense of connection with the actors. Similarly, obeying the 180 degree rule allows films to have
continuity in which there is no disruption in the viewers sense of location or... Show more content

The camera moves in a hand held documentary style which allows the characters and the action
to enter in and out of the frame. The editing also achieves a fast paced documentary style. For
example, the opening sequence reflects this editing with lots of faced paced, sometimes random
jump cuts. The editing in this scene as well as the rest of the movie reflects much of the chaos
that is occurring. However, in the opening sequence Bigelow slows things down by using a
camera that shoots at 58,000 frames per second. She uses this camera to capture the first bomb s
blast radius and deadly impact. Juxtaposing this extreme slow mo sequence with the fast paced
cuts that happened just before causes a distortion of time for the viewer. After seeing such rapid
editing, the audience is momentarily forced to really absorb the force of the explosion. The
detailed shots of rocks lifting from the ground and rust separating from a car s frame provide a
contrast with the rest of the film. The rest of the film maintains a documentary style, meanwhile
utilizing the geography of the setting to convey a sense of uncertainty in the audience. The
surroundings are conveyed not only through very tight shots, but also through very wide ones. In
a discussion with David Pendleton, Bigelow said of the film, ...it s a geographic centric piece
because the audience as well as the bomb tech needs to know where you are in relation to the IED
at all times, and that s what kind of

The Economics Of Happiness Is An Indicator Of Economic...
For centuries, economists have deliberated on the most effective ways to promote growth, to
increase employment, to boost consumption and to eliminate poverty, but where does this all lead?
Surely these are all means to an end? Today, some economists may define the end as happiness.
This essay will explore the potential benefits and drawbacks of using happiness as an indicator of
economic success, analyze how it can be measured and examine the current theories on whether
happiness can cause economic growth, or vice versa. Whilst economic growth first and foremost
implies an increase in GDP per capita, increasing happiness can be attributed to many different
determinants such as health, education, stability and inequality. Therefore, the economicsof
happiness is a multi layered and rather subjective area that divides economists when asked whether
happiness can cause economic growth.
To begin with, Stevenson and Wolfers (2008) propose that as countries grow richer, their citizens
report higher levels of satisfaction. This is achieved not only through higher income per capita
levels, but through the expected byproducts of an improving economy such as increases in levels of
education, access to healthcare, opportunities for employment and equality. Non income
determinants can be weighted against GDP levels to assess whether economic growth does impact
happiness. For example, using the Corruptions Perceptions Index it was found that Sub Saharan
Africa, one of the poorest

TO WHAT EXTENT WAS THERE A MID TUDOR CRISIS DURING THE REIGNS OF
EDWARD VI AND MARY I? The mid Tudor crisis is a term often used by historians to describe
the reigns of Edward VI (1547 1553) and Mary I (1553 1558). This period can be seen as a crisis,
due to the fact that there were so many problems financially, socially, religiously and
constitutionally, which led to rebellions, and placed the country in a very unstable position. It is
clear that many of the origins of this crisis have their roots in the reign of Henry VIII. He left a
very difficult legacy to his successors, but it must be remembered that Somerset provoked the
problems already in existence and Northumberland and Mary I then had the difficult task of
resolving them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Northumberland also established the Privy Coffer to provide contingency funds. Mary herself
reformed the customs and introduced the book of rates in 1558. There was also, as Guy
perceives a shift towards national finance . Although the period 1552 8 is still described as a
crisis, it must be remembered that there were some productive reforms and that the situation did
not decline. Historians such as Pollard who see government as sterile, impotent and unproductive
at this time do not seem to have taken into account these positive financial developments. It is
evident that Henry was at the root of the financial problems and that Somerset exacerbated them.
However the positive achievements of Northumberland and Mary must not be forgotten.
Somerset lacked charm and made enemies easily. His arrogance and pride created resentment.
He was a weak administrator who refused to listen to the experts. The crisis came for Somerset,
in 1559 when he failed to deal decisively with rebellions in the west and in Norfolk (which had
been partly caused by his own policies). As Dale Hoak points out his colleagues decided to get rid
of him at this point not because he supported the poor but because he was incompetent . When
Northumberland came into power, even though his reforms were far more extreme, with no

Symptoms Of Colorblindness
Colorblindness is a disorder that results in a decrease in function of the mechanisms that allow the
eye to see colors. These symptoms usually result from a mutation that interrupts the development of
the retinal cones. Cones are photoreceptor cells that response best to bright light and serve to
discriminate colors. There are three different types of cones each with different pigments blue,
green and red (Deeb). Blue cones are able to absorb lightwith a short wavelength around 420nm;
green cones are able to absorb light with a middle wavelength around 530nm, and red cones are
able to absorb light with a long wavelength around 560nm (Deeb). Working together these cones
are able to discriminate between the colors we see. The genes responsible

A Research Study On Infant Memory Development
Infant memory development is one of the topics of PSY103 lectures, and is also one of the
significant issues in Psychology. Dr. Jane Herbert was the lecturer of this topic and she drew my
attention and interest to infant memory development and infantile amnesia. Infantile amnesia is the
failure to recall events from babyhood and early childhood (Hayne Jack, 2010). In other words,
according to Henri Henri (1898 cited in Hayne, 2004), most of the children and adults can only
recollect the earliest memorybetween 2 and 4 years old. Early experience is a crucial element in
understanding human development as psychologists stated its influences would last for long
(Hayne Jack, 2010). The early experience plays an important role in brain, social, behavioural
development (Hayne, 2004). Many scholars and psychologists at or beyond the University of
Sheffield has conducted numerous research in this field, and they aimed to study infant memory
ability and age related changes in various kind of aspects with their research impacting society in
many ways. In this essay, the academic impacts of psychological research in connection with infant
memory development will be discussed first. This will be then followed by the discussion about the
social and economic impacts, which benefit the society.

metallic scent: a smell I know too well, the smell of blood.
Do you or do you not understand that no one is to keep their lights on after 9:00 p.m?
Silence. My hand, conditioned by this lifestyle, moves to deliver yet another slap across the man s
face. The birds start chirping frantically.
Answer me. Do you or do you not understand?
I shoot their yelping little dog to make my point. The little boy who is holding the bleeding dog
starts wailing and the mother goes hysteric.
N..no listen to me, I don t know why you are doing this to us, but please let us go Jason.

The Vampire, By Anne Rice
For the majority of time since literary vampires were created, they were represented as monstrous
creatures without souls whose sole purpose in literature was to kill and cause terror until they were
ultimately destroyed. These literary vampires were slowly given more human characteristics, but it
was Anne Rice who radically humanized the vampire, by creating the cultured vampire who, in
some ways, represents an improved, superior human. In the Interview with the Vampire (1976),
Anne Rice juxtaposed Louis de Pointe du Lac, a humanized, emotional, vampire, to other vampires
in order to emphasize his cultured nature in a modern world lacking morality. Although Louis was
a vampire for most of the novel, he represented humanity in an absolute yet rudimentary manner:
through his struggle to find meaning in a world lost to modernity, which he, with his religious
beliefs, believed had forsaken him. While Louis de Pointe du Lac, the protagonist of the Interview
with the Vampire, seemed to be going constantly through a series of losses in the novel, he also
made the best of the obstacles presented to him representing humanity by attempting to find
happiness through his struggles. The first loss that Louis experienced his brother seemed to set
the theme for the rest of his life. Paul, his brother, killed himself after Louis refused to believe that
Paul s religious visions were real and; therefore, refused to sell the indigo plantations. Louis blamed
himself for the death of

Of Mice And Men Book Vs Movie Essay
In the movie, Of Mice and Men the scene in Weed was a lot different than the one explained in
the book. First the girl is actually chasing them which didn t happen in the book. They also were
chasing Lennie and George, not looking for them. I think the director chose to do it this way
because it adds more to the story then seen in the movie ,and makes it more interesting. It s also
the beginning of the story so he probably wanted to draw you in. This changes the story. The
director probably chose to start the story on a train for many reasons. First, it is pretty much a
good way to start a movie. The director also might have done this because he wanted to show that
they were leaving Weed. The director is telling us that George s life, has a lot of trains and
transportation in it, because he moves around so much! This is also due to Lennie s behavior,
getting them kicked of town, after town, after town.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He encounters Curley s wife and he is alone with her. She starts to ask him questions. Another
scene that we see in the movie that is not presented through the book is when George and Lennie
are working together and to load up the wagon when Curley s wife comes along. These new
scenes add more of the loneliness factor that I have noticed throughout the book and the movie. I
think they show the audience how desperate and lonely she is to talk to someone. I had different
emotions throughout the book and movie. I One was that Lennie was useless in the beginning of
the book and movie.. Another emotion that I had was towards George. I thought he was just
bossing around Lennie and trying to make fun of him like when he told Lennie to jump in a river,
he jumps and forgets after George saves him. But, then he I guess saw that George killed Lennie
out of love so he won t suffer

Questions On Accounting Information System Essay
Discussion
Accounting information system is increasingly important to contemporary organisations, can help
to increase the flexibility, keep the necessary accounting records, save money and time on
accounting record functions. Xero is an accounting report software development company, it
established to provide beautiful accounting software. Drays Co is a company, sells medical
equipment, which desires to adopt Xero accounting software. However Rose, who is the
accountant of Dray Co, has difficulties to adopt Xero accounting systems. There are three specific
issues are: risks of the cloud, systems development life cycle and outwardly organised systems.
These issues will be discussed separately in the following content.
Risks of the Cloud
An unsuitable contract or unfavourable term in the contract can increase the risk for customers,
especially the privacy and data security terms in the contract (Queensland Government, 2014.
Para.3). Due to the privacy terms between provider and customer, service provider will not be
allowed to know the content of customer s data that stored on the cloud, thus they should not
liable for securing and segregating the subscriber data (Merrill Kang, 2014, p.3). Thus, cloud
providers will not agree with the indemnification, if there are incidents and breaches. The
unfavourable term also can pose risk, for example, the words security incident probably are not
wide enough to cover the proper incident obligations (Merrill Kang, 2014, p.3).

Who Is Joseph Conrad Uncivilized
Through contemplation of Joseph Conrad s complex descriptions and ideas of life in Africa, or
the heart of darkness, it can be established that he is, in fact, not racist. Conrad was simply
expressing the dark, uncivilized manners of the African people to contrast the light European hoi
polloi and the unfair dehumanization of slaves in his time period. The African people that Conrad
viewed as uncivilized could be considered an act of racism; however, it is also logical to believe
that he was merely trying to demonstrate the common, effete opinion among Europeans of this
time frame. This would also explain Conrad s complex framed narrative as he didn t want to be
viewed as racist. His framed narrative could demonstrate the confusion he had... Show more content

He was not racist, but it could be concluded that Conrad was generally not a fan of humanity; It
was very simple, and at the end of that moving appeal to every altruistic sentiment it blazed at
you, luminous and terrifying like a flash of lightning in a serene sky: Exterminate all the brutes!
(Conrad 407). At the surface, this quote seems to be a cry for the brutes or Africans to be
destroyed, yet it could also be assumed that Conrad is absolutely tired of the darkness of mankind
in general. Ellie Arielle addresses this quotation, as well, by saying; Although Kurtz is implying that
the people and the situation in the Congo are in need of some considerable control and that the only
solution he sees is extermination, what Marlow realizes is that humanity is not the cause of the
problem and that the Africans are not the heart of darkness, but that greed and lust for economic
freedom is. (Arielle) The topic of economic freedom appears frequently throughout the novella
especially with the arrival of the ribald Eldorado Exploring Expedition. It is clear that the
European men are oblivious to their surroundings and only interested in money and this is another
way for Conrad to show how humanity has let him down. One critic explains that Heart of
Darkness offers an, analysis

Food Waste
Hunger is one of the key problems in the world today. Not just in small portions of the world, but
all over. Americans today rely on our food system and take the amount of food we have for
granted. What Americans aren t realizing, is that every piece of food we throw away, a child is
starving somewhere else. Not only are we wasting the food we buy, but 40 percent is just going to
waste. Newsweek, Bonnie Tsui, magazine publisher says, Forty percent of all food is never eaten,
and this rejection of ugly food the misshapen or imperfect produce that gets thrown out before it
ever hits the supermarketdisplay is a major contributor to food waste. Americans have too many
options when it comes to picking out their produce. If it doesn t look clean enough, they choose
another one. America wastes a ton of food every day, instead of focusing on which produce
looks better to eat, we should be focusing on cutting down the amount of food we waste and
saving money. Will our issue with food waste ever change? What is a solution to changing the
amount of food we waste a year? School today are teaching kids that it is okay to dispose any
leftover food we don t finish. Jonathan Bloom an author of American Wasteland and creator of
the blog Food Tank says, Every day, we re teaching kids that food is trash. We ensure that they
throw it away by providing support grub in a rushed lunch period at times of the day when they
won t be hungry. Kids are starting to believe at such a young age

Integrative Genomic Analysis In Cancer Essay
Other methodologies for integrative genomic analysis in cancer have been studied previously. The
review presented in cite{kristensen2014principles} summarizes a number of different tools and
algorithms used in this area. The paper classifies these methods into statistical, machine learning,
gene set, network, and other analysis techniques. Many work has been done to perform an
integrated analysis using genetic and geneexpression data. In cite{xiong2012integrating}, the
authors illustrated that joint analyses of genomic data increase the power to detect real associations
when compared with gene set methods that use only one genomic data type. They developed a

The authors of this paper integrated high dimensional genetic and proteomic data in a cohort of
subjects in which a portion experienced an adverse event (AE) after primary immunization with
Aventis Pasteur smallpox vaccine. They modelled the AE risk using 1442 single nucleotide
polymorphisms as genetic variables and 108 serum cytokine concentrations as proteomic variables.
They employed the Random Forests (RF) method to filter the most important attributes to be used
in the building of a final decision tree model. After that, they built a comprehensive model of AE
development by integrating information from previous studies with the genetic and proteomic
attributes identified by RF. The biological factors included in the model support their hypothesized
mechanism for the development of AEs involving prolonged stimulation of inflammatory pathways
and an imbalance of normal tissue damage repair pathways.
A novel approach was presented in cite{zhong2010integrating}. This approach uses information
from genetics of gene expression studies to investigate biological pathways enriched for expression
associated genetic loci related with disease in publicly available Genome wide Association Studies
(GWAS) results. The authors of this paper, first identified SNPs in population based human cohorts
that associate with the expression of genes (eSNPs) in the metabolically active tissues liver,

Political Stereotypes In Scandal
The political thriller Scandal which began airing in 2012 has become an immensely popular
television show. The protagonist Olivia Pope is portrayed by the actress Kerry Washington. Olivia
Pope is a crisis manager who runs her own firm, Pope Associates, which specializes in managing
political situations and making the problems of the elite go away. Scandal, challenges the
mainstream blueprint used to construct most televisionshows in Western society. Primarily, Scandal
breaks down stereotypes of African Americans and females in general in society. There are many
ways in which Scandal achieves these goals. Scandal has a diverse cast of characters normally not
portraited on television. The characters do not conform to the stereotypes that have made other
similar characters successful. Scandals also uses on screen and off screen choices that contrast
choices typically made by the television industry. Through these different choices Scandal portrays
African Americans and women on television in a way which is far from common in the industry.
Television is widely considered a more racial and gender friendly medium of popular culture.
However, prime time television is not nearly as progressive as people believe, and is still a male
dominated industry. In a report done by the Institute for Diversity and Empowerment at Annenberg,
11,306 speaking characters were evaluated and 66.5% were male, while 33.5% were female [1].
Moreover, 41.6% of females in television took leading or

Public Education Essay
Public Education
Governor Jeb Bush initiated the nation s boldest voucher experiment in June of 1999 when he
signed into law his Opportunity Scholarship Program. Florida is the first in the nation with a
statewide plan allowing state paid tuition for children in F graded schools to attend private schools
or other non failing schools. Opponents claim that giving parents the choice to use state education
funds at private schools could end up bankrupting the public education system so many children rely
upon. Proponents of vouchers argue the voucher program will give parents a way to help children
trapped in failing schools. Matthew Berry, a staff attorney with the Washington, D.C. based

includes a new system involving truancy, discipline, and safety (Voucher and Accountability).
Social promotion has been eliminated and school districts must consider alternative placement for
students retained two or more years. Teachers and administrators disagree with many aspects of this
plan.
Last summer, two schools, A.A. Dixion and Spencer Bibbs Elementary, were the first schools to

Bandura s Theory Of The Bobo Doll Experiment
Bobo Doll Experiment
Bandura presented a study to observe if social behaviors (ex. aggression) can be educated by
observation and imitation.
The investigators pre tested the children in what way violent they were, and observing them in the
nursery and considered their aggressive behavior on four 5 point ranking scales.
Milgram study
One of the best well known studies of obedience in psychology was conceded out by Milgram.
Milgram clarified the behavior of his applicants by recommending that people have double states of
behavior when they are in a social situation:
1.The autonomous state: people direct their own actions, and they take responsibility for the results
of those actions.
2.The agentic state: people allow others to direct their actions and then pass off the responsibility
for the consequences to the person giving the orders. In other words, they act as agents for another
person s will.
A main subject in the theoretical context of Bruner is that learning is an active procedure in which
learners construct fresh ideas or theories based on current/past knowledge.

I had consumed a vast quantity of these nutrients during my three day period.
Keeping in range your micronutrient is very important, the range provides a guide to a well
balanced nutrition in which you should not exceed the recommended ratios in order not to create
excess energy in thus converting to fat. The lack of micronutrients is also important to keep in
mind. Lack of these nutrients can cause malnutrition that can lead to disease complexity disorder
and long term damage to your organs.
If you constantly eat too little protein you will start to lose muscle complexity due to that
proteins are the building blocks of muscle. If you deprive yourself of proteins and there is a lack
of energy your body will start taking energy from your muscles. If you consume too little
carbohydrates you re depriving yourself of necessary nutrients in whole grain foods and vegetables,
some of the consequences are digestive difficulties, decreased energy and heart disease.
When you eat too few lipids sources in your diet, you may not get enough essential fatty acids,
which could cause problems with your hair, skin, immune system and vision. Eating too little fat
may also lower your blood levels of HDL, or good cholesterol, raising your risk of cardiovascular
problems and stroke (ADA, 2011).My fiber intake did not reach the one hundred percent that is

Descartes s Cogito Ergo Sum
During Meditations 2, Descartes establishes a version of his famous cogito ergo sum . He
establishes that despite the fact that we may not know the world around us as well as we think
we do, we can know the mind better and the trusting the mind can lead him to the seemingly
justified conclusion that he exists. Descartes method of arriving at the conclusion is by starting
from scratch and considering whether there could be any ground of doubt for his beliefs. He
was a rational philosopher who gave reason the utmost importance and led him to realise that
many of his current beliefs were in fact based on uncertainty and thus false conclusions.
Therefore, in order to avoid this problem and find secure knowledge of on what he can be certain
of, he uses the method of doubting everything that he finds reason to doubt and consequently,
being justified in rejecting the whole. He will: withhold my assent from matters which are not
entirely certain and indubitable than from those which appear to me manifestly to be false
(Descartes 1641: 6) Firstly, Descartes deals with the issue of empiricism the theory that our
knowledge is derived from our sensory experiences. Since we know from everyday errors that our
senses have the ability to deceive us fairly often so making our perceptions to be something that it
is not. For example, there are lots of examples of optical illusions and the fact that the train tracks
may appear to converge from a distance. Consequently, we ought to

Ignacia In Beowulf
Once there was a female mortal named Ignacia who roamed freely in the vast forest near her
home. Being naughty and causing trouble with others intrigued her, she was always acting bad,
breaking the peace between everyone. No mortal wanted to make the mistake of making her
angry: one spark would set her temperamental attitude off wild. Aside from her personality,
Ignacia had a beautiful, colorful mixture of hair and a red complexity to her face, like the colors
of fire, that she dearly admired about herself. She had strong, long legs that gave great support to
stand her ground, like a tree trunk, while her hair swayed in the wind, like leaves falling to the

Ignacia knew she had to change but reluctantly agreed. From there on, Pazia and Ignacia became
good friends and worked on her temper. Staying away from other mortals helped, so they stayed
in the woods isolated from society and restored nature that Ignacia had damaged. Ignacia began
to be very fond of Pazia; she realized that peace was easier and a better lifestyle to live rather
than having short patience and being angry. Destrius, being busy with other things, had not
noticed Ignacia changing until it was too late. He became furious and approached her as she
was singing and gardening the plants. Why have you changed your behavior? I liked it the way
it was before, he persuasively said, hinting to revert her behavior back. Ignacia firmly replied
with, Well, hello. I am not interested in that old life; I love keeping peace and tending nature, as
she remembered the old times. Destrius, mad and jealous that Pazia had taken over, tried to
think of a way to change Ignacia back. He knew he would not be able to change her while alive, so
he killed Ignacia and turned her into a wildfire, destroying the surrounding area. Her body became
a tree, and her red orange hair resembled fire as it danced tree to

Joseph Conrad Influence On Things Fall Apart
Books about Africa: How an Author Influences a Reader Without experiencing something firsthand,
the only way to gain understanding of a foreign concept is through the words of other people. Thus,
without visiting Africa, personal knowledge of it is limited and a reader must make decisions on
what to believe. Two books about African culture are Chinua Achebes historical fiction novel
Things Fall Apart, and Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of Darkness. After analyzing both of these
texts, a reader can see how one s perspective on a subject can be influenced based on how an
author chooses to write about it. By using either realism or exaggeration, Achebe and Conrad
(respectively) create two different Africas: one that brings African life closer... Show more content

As such, they describe their stories in differing ways. A quote that illustrates this clash in
perspective is found in Things Fall Apart when a visiting missionary thinks about the book he is
writing about his experience with the tribe He had already chosen the title of the book, after
much thought: The Pacification of the Primitive Tribes of the Lower Niger (Achebe, 171).
Achebe wrote this line to show the reader how an outsider can be ignorant to things they don t
understand. Reading this line is jarring because of it s dark irony; throughout the whole book, the
reader has gone on a journey with Okonkwo and has learned to relate and understand the Igbo.
Then at the end of the book, He is using the character of the Commissioner to represent as a whole
the post colonial Europeans who misjudge Africans. In fact, Achebe is making a meta reference to
the genre of books about African culture which, at the time, were written by European outsiders.
Achebe is angered by these authors namely Conrad himself for their stereotyped portrayal of
African culture. He is actively writing against the perpetuation of misinformation because he knows
that how an author chooses to describe something determines how an outsider will view that

along with the information you have provided in the questionnaire, you decided to bring up a
personal injury claim for the recovery of these losses. You have specifically expressed your
concern about paying the fees of our firm. Therefore, I will now provide all the possible funding
methods related to your claim and identify the most suitable one.
Funding Methods:
There are numerous ways which you can use to fund your personal injury claim;
1)Conditional Fee Agreements (CFAs): A CFA is a legal funding arrangement in which you do
not have to pay for my basic charges as your solicitor if your claim is unsuccessful. In other
words, the fees are only payable if your case is won. In the event of a successful claim, you will
have to pay your own costs for the case and a success fee. Success fee will be calculated as a
percentage based on the costs paid by the defendant and this percentage will be decided prior to
the case. The success fee must be paid from the compensation that you have received. As this is a
personal injury claim, the maximum success fee deduction that can be made from your
compensation is 25%. On the other hand, if you lose the case, there will be no success fee
payments but you will be required to pay for your own disbursements as well as for the legal

  • 2. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Essay Adolescents experience a developmental journey as they transition from child to adult, and in doing so are faced with many developmental milestones. Physical, cognitive, social and emotional changes are occurring during this tumultuous stage of life, and making sense of one s self and identity becomes a priority. Sherman Alexie s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian addresses the challenges of adolescence in an engaging tale, but deals with minority communities and cultures as well. Establishing an identity has been called one of the most important milestones of adolescent development (Ruffin, 2009). Additionally, a central part of identity development includes ethnic identity (ACT for Youth, 2002). While some teens search... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only is Junior unpopular and alienated, but the victim of taunts and bullying as well. Furthermore, he s considered a traitor after he transfers to Reardon. At Reardon, he s called names and endures racial jokes until he finally finds acceptance through basketball and surprisingly finds friends with similar interests. Ultimately, Junior comes to the huge realization that not only does he belong to the Spokane Indian tribe, but to no less than 13 additional groups (Basketball players, cartoonists, bookworms, and sons to name a few). It is the first time he knows that he will be OK , sending a positive message to readers that identify with his struggles. By reading about characters similar to themselves, young adults can see that their challenges are not unique and are shared by other adolescents (Bucher Hinton, 2009) Junior s discovery of identity and place within his world is a predominant theme in the novel and one with which teens can relate; however, several other young adult characteristics and developmental issues are addressed as well. Junior and his peers are experiencing a time of rapid physical, hormonal and cognitive development as are the most likely readers of the book. Like many adolescent girls, Penelope is concerned with her body appearance and popularity. She is a bulimic attempting to keep up her pretty and smart and popular (108) image. Also, the percentage of Blacks with bachelor s degrees or more was 14 percent, compared to 27 percent of Whites. Closing achievement gaps is a critical issue. The performance of Blacks is systematically different from that of other racial and ethnic groups. Decreasing gaps in student achievement means that we must increase the learning gains of Blacks. This will require the creation of public policies and legislation that support public schools committed to identifying and setting high, worthwhile, and attainable goals for students and ensuring that teachers and students are supported in these efforts. It will also require meaningful collaboration among community organizations and leaders, parents, and the school. The success of the school must become the success of the ... Also we are the one s that want to pay for the wall and so i think that we should be the ones paying for it. Hillary clinton also has a plan for immigration but it s a little more different. Hillary will introduce comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to full and equal citizenship within her first 100 days in office. It will treat every person with dignity, fix the family visa backlog, uphold the rule of law, protect our borders and national security, and bring millions of hardworking people into the formal economy. This not agree with due to the fact that there are people in the United States of America that are bad people. If she were to pass this law then i could give the bad people citizenship. This will then give them a lot more rights and overall would be a bad situation to out this country into. Another thing that she plans on doing as soon as she comes into office is to Do everything possible under the law to protect families. If Congress keeps failing to act on comprehensive immigration reform, Hillary will enact a simple system for those with sympathetic cases such as parents of DREAMers, those with a history of service and contribution to their communities, or those who experience extreme labor violations to make their case and be eligible for deferred action. Hardware and Project Considerations When Implementing A New CRM System The most effective Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems are deliberately designed to align and enhance the strategic initiatives and programs of a given business or enterprise. They must take into account customer preferences, needs and wants as well, and strive to create a foundation of shared information and insight over time There are a myriad of studies that show how effective CRM systems are in transforming businesses and making them more customer centric, profitable and responsive to rapidly changing market requirements. • 7. The Shaping Of Our Country Celeste Munoz U.S History I to 1876 Mr. William Stowe 28 November 2014 The shaping of our country has been impacted by several different factors, each contributing to it in their own way. Four of the major pivot points that occurred consists of: Jeffersonian democracy, Jacksonian democracy, Civil War/Reconstruction, Revolution/Constitution. However one of them happened to be the most impacting which was the Civil War and Reconstruction. The American Civil Waroccurred during 1861 to 1865, lasting only five years. America s bloodiest clash resulting in the death of approximately 620,000 Americans and millions more were injured. In the spring of 1861, the north and south began to rise into conflict over issues like states rights. Other conflicts include federal authority, westward expansion and slavery. When Lincoln was elected president in 1860, seven states seceded from the union and they formed the confederate states. After the first shots were fired four more states joined the confederate states. Abraham s election was the rising point to long debate over the federal and state governments. The war can be viewed in many ways. One as the final violent stages in a conflict of two regions. Another as the breakdown of the political system of the Democratic Party and as the max point of several years of social reform. Or also viewed as the main chapter in America s racial history. The survival of the U.S as one nation was at risk, and the outcome of the war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I gather what was the first obstacle of why there was no women in the government before, reason for this was due to their inability to vote. Women were not allowed to vote until 1920, a big factor to limited power and representation in Congress. During the World War 1, important figures in the women s rights movement help fight fighting for equality, Suffrage leaders Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and Lucy Stone pushed for women to gain a new sense of power. The 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granted women the right to vote two years after the war, Congress granting women to vote was a step towards women in legislature. It marked a sort of way to change the political system by voting to change the system. Voting is an essential tool to get women voices heard, the next step to get more female representation in the government. Following the Ratification of the 19th Amendment, granting women to vote, 2 years after, Rebecca Felton became the first women to serve in the U.S Senate in 1922 for four years. The social classes can be broken up into four categories, the Upper or Elite class constituting approximately 1% of the population, the Middle class which accounts for around 60% of the population dependent on the definition, the Working class which consists of approximately 30% of the population since the growth of the Middle classin recent decades and the Under or Lower class accounting for the remaining 8% of the population (Carl et.al.,2012, p.41 45). The second verse contains the line, You told us you werent afraid to die. Well then, so long. This line seems to be less criticizing than the first, but still is telling Jesus that after all this time of preaching how much he would sacrifice, he is now going to have to live up to his promise or to die for it. Another line in this verse is,Not all martyrs see divinity. But at least you tried. Here, the singer is almost being sympathetic with Him, saying his cause was a valiant effort and claiming him to be a martyr, someone who suffers for a cause or sacrifices his or her life for a great purpose. Although they say that He wont reach the higher state of divinity, they still acknowledge his effort. The third verse goes back to the original tone of the song by criticizing the Lord, this time by saying that he blamed all things that were evil on other people. This is expressed though the line, Ranting and pointing his finger. At everything but his heart. The part about his heart doesnt come off as an emotional or spiritual metaphor, but rather a literal accusation that He never turned the blame on Himself and always pointed His finger away. It is in the forth verse when the artist turns from speaking about Jesus in a third person to the first person. To me, this is more personal and angry than the first three verses. Starting on September 3rd, 1957, Melba s life was changed forever. Through trials unbearable to most people, Melba and the other eight students chosen to integrate Central High stood tall and persevered. Though their journey was harrowing, they survived and set a turning point that has forever changed our history. By showing examples of the attitudes of the people on Melba s life, the author helps further develop the setting. Every print and television advertisement suggests that the ideal body is extremely thin. However, most women cannot achieve having a super thin body that the media favors. The Demonstration And Variance Of The Iodine Clock Reaction The demonstration and variance of the iodine clock reaction displays principles of equilibrium, and rate of reaction, all affected by change in concentration and temperature. In order to properly examine rates of reaction, one must first understand the principles of chemical kinetics. Reaction kinetics deals with the rates of chemical processes; that is the behaviour of particles within a solution. The study of chemical kineticsis of upmost importance in chemical research, as it is a powerful tool for determining the reaction mechanism (scilearn.sydney.edu.au). In order to determine this mechanism, we must identify the elementary steps within the reaction itself. Any chemical process may be broken down into elementary processes, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reaction Rate Speed of a chemical reaction may be defined as the change in concentration of the products per unit time. (chem.libretexts). A rate law expresses the reaction rate as a function of the concentration of each reactant. The rate at any instant is proportional to the product of the molar concentrations of the reactants, each concentration raised to an experimentally determined exponent. For a general equation of the form aA+bB = cC + dD; the rate law is in the form Rate= k[A]ЛЈ [B]Кё . Many reactions, like the Landolt Iodine clock, have multiple steps, and therefore the exponents do not necessarily correspond to the coefficients of the overall equation, as is traditionally the case with rate law calculations. The reaction order is the exponent to which the concentration of that species is raised, and it indicates to what extent the rate affects the rate of reaction, as well as which species has the greatest effect (chem.libretexts, 2017). In order to calculate the order of the reaction, graphs can be plotted under the principles of the integrate rate law. This can be done with the recorded concentration and time values, obtained via our experimental procedures. The rate law for a first order reaction is known as rate = dy/dx = k [A]. which integrates to give: ln[A]= kt + ln[A] в‚Ђ. The Reign of Terror began after the execution of Louis XVI on January 21, 1793, lasting almost 2 years. It was a period during the French Revolution where waves of executions arose to those who were enemies of the state. This occurred due to revolutionaries attempting to form a new government based on the freedom for citizens. In order to achieve this, they went through extreme measures to reach their goal and were responsible for the death of thousands. However, in Document B it states, Law of Suspects passed which limited rights of the accused. • 28. The Hurt Locker By Kathryn Bigelow In classical Hollywood cinema, style, space, and time are unified and uninterrupted. These elements come together to match the viewer s sense of time and space in reality. This is achieved through the use of many techniques such as the 180 degree rule, point of view shots, a lack of jump cuts, and other unobtrusive filmmaking techniques. Using these techniques allow the audience to associate with the main characters in the film. For example, the use of point of view shots allow the viewer to see the action from the characters perspectives giving the audience a sense of connection with the actors. Similarly, obeying the 180 degree rule allows films to have continuity in which there is no disruption in the viewers sense of location or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The camera moves in a hand held documentary style which allows the characters and the action to enter in and out of the frame. The editing also achieves a fast paced documentary style. For example, the opening sequence reflects this editing with lots of faced paced, sometimes random jump cuts. The editing in this scene as well as the rest of the movie reflects much of the chaos that is occurring. However, in the opening sequence Bigelow slows things down by using a camera that shoots at 58,000 frames per second. She uses this camera to capture the first bomb s blast radius and deadly impact. Juxtaposing this extreme slow mo sequence with the fast paced cuts that happened just before causes a distortion of time for the viewer. After seeing such rapid editing, the audience is momentarily forced to really absorb the force of the explosion. The detailed shots of rocks lifting from the ground and rust separating from a car s frame provide a contrast with the rest of the film. The rest of the film maintains a documentary style, meanwhile utilizing the geography of the setting to convey a sense of uncertainty in the audience. The surroundings are conveyed not only through very tight shots, but also through very wide ones. In a discussion with David Pendleton, Bigelow said of the film, ...it s a geographic centric piece because the audience as well as the bomb tech needs to know where you are in relation to the IED at all times, and that s what kind of ... • 29. The Economics Of Happiness Is An Indicator Of Economic... For centuries, economists have deliberated on the most effective ways to promote growth, to increase employment, to boost consumption and to eliminate poverty, but where does this all lead? Surely these are all means to an end? Today, some economists may define the end as happiness. This essay will explore the potential benefits and drawbacks of using happiness as an indicator of economic success, analyze how it can be measured and examine the current theories on whether happiness can cause economic growth, or vice versa. Whilst economic growth first and foremost implies an increase in GDP per capita, increasing happiness can be attributed to many different determinants such as health, education, stability and inequality. Therefore, the economicsof happiness is a multi layered and rather subjective area that divides economists when asked whether happiness can cause economic growth. To begin with, Stevenson and Wolfers (2008) propose that as countries grow richer, their citizens report higher levels of satisfaction. This is achieved not only through higher income per capita levels, but through the expected byproducts of an improving economy such as increases in levels of education, access to healthcare, opportunities for employment and equality. Non income determinants can be weighted against GDP levels to assess whether economic growth does impact happiness. For example, using the Corruptions Perceptions Index it was found that Sub Saharan Africa, one of the poorest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The mid Tudor crisis is a term often used by historians to describe the reigns of Edward VI (1547 1553) and Mary I (1553 1558). This period can be seen as a crisis, due to the fact that there were so many problems financially, socially, religiously and constitutionally, which led to rebellions, and placed the country in a very unstable position. It is clear that many of the origins of this crisis have their roots in the reign of Henry VIII. He left a very difficult legacy to his successors, but it must be remembered that Somerset provoked the problems already in existence and Northumberland and Mary I then had the difficult task of resolving them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Northumberland also established the Privy Coffer to provide contingency funds. Mary herself reformed the customs and introduced the book of rates in 1558. There was also, as Guy perceives a shift towards national finance . Although the period 1552 8 is still described as a crisis, it must be remembered that there were some productive reforms and that the situation did not decline. Historians such as Pollard who see government as sterile, impotent and unproductive at this time do not seem to have taken into account these positive financial developments. It is evident that Henry was at the root of the financial problems and that Somerset exacerbated them. However the positive achievements of Northumberland and Mary must not be forgotten. Somerset lacked charm and made enemies easily. His arrogance and pride created resentment. He was a weak administrator who refused to listen to the experts. The crisis came for Somerset, in 1559 when he failed to deal decisively with rebellions in the west and in Norfolk (which had been partly caused by his own policies). As Dale Hoak points out his colleagues decided to get rid of him at this point not because he supported the poor but because he was incompetent . Dr. Jane Herbert was the lecturer of this topic and she drew my attention and interest to infant memory development and infantile amnesia. Infantile amnesia is the failure to recall events from babyhood and early childhood (Hayne Jack, 2010). In other words, according to Henri Henri (1898 cited in Hayne, 2004), most of the children and adults can only recollect the earliest memorybetween 2 and 4 years old. Early experience is a crucial element in understanding human development as psychologists stated its influences would last for long (Hayne Jack, 2010). The early experience plays an important role in brain, social, behavioural development (Hayne, 2004). • 39. The Vampire, By Anne Rice For the majority of time since literary vampires were created, they were represented as monstrous creatures without souls whose sole purpose in literature was to kill and cause terror until they were ultimately destroyed. These literary vampires were slowly given more human characteristics, but it was Anne Rice who radically humanized the vampire, by creating the cultured vampire who, in some ways, represents an improved, superior human. In the Interview with the Vampire (1976), Anne Rice juxtaposed Louis de Pointe du Lac, a humanized, emotional, vampire, to other vampires in order to emphasize his cultured nature in a modern world lacking morality. Although Louis was a vampire for most of the novel, he represented humanity in an absolute yet rudimentary manner: through his struggle to find meaning in a world lost to modernity, which he, with his religious beliefs, believed had forsaken him. While Louis de Pointe du Lac, the protagonist of the Interview with the Vampire, seemed to be going constantly through a series of losses in the novel, he also made the best of the obstacles presented to him representing humanity by attempting to find happiness through his struggles. The first loss that Louis experienced his brother seemed to set the theme for the rest of his life. Due to the privacy terms between provider and customer, service provider will not be allowed to know the content of customer s data that stored on the cloud, thus they should not liable for securing and segregating the subscriber data (Merrill Kang, 2014, p.3). The African people that Conrad viewed as uncivilized could be considered an act of racism; however, it is also logical to believe that he was merely trying to demonstrate the common, effete opinion among Europeans of this time frame. • 49. Descartes s Cogito Ergo Sum During Meditations 2, Descartes establishes a version of his famous cogito ergo sum . He establishes that despite the fact that we may not know the world around us as well as we think we do, we can know the mind better and the trusting the mind can lead him to the seemingly justified conclusion that he exists. Descartes method of arriving at the conclusion is by starting from scratch and considering whether there could be any ground of doubt for his beliefs. He was a rational philosopher who gave reason the utmost importance and led him to realise that many of his current beliefs were in fact based on uncertainty and thus false conclusions. Therefore, in order to avoid this problem and find secure knowledge of on what he can be certain of, he uses the method of doubting everything that he finds reason to doubt and consequently, being justified in rejecting the whole. He will: withhold my assent from matters which are not entirely certain and indubitable than from those which appear to me manifestly to be false (Descartes 1641: 6) Firstly, Descartes deals with the issue of empiricism the theory that our knowledge is derived from our sensory experiences. Since we know from everyday errors that our senses have the ability to deceive us fairly often so making our perceptions to be something that it is not. For example, there are lots of examples of optical illusions and the fact that the train tracks may appear to converge from a distance. Consequently, we ought to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Ignacia In Beowulf Once there was a female mortal named Ignacia who roamed freely in the vast forest near her home. Being naughty and causing trouble with others intrigued her, she was always acting bad, breaking the peace between everyone. No mortal wanted to make the mistake of making her angry: one spark would set her temperamental attitude off wild. Aside from her personality, Ignacia had a beautiful, colorful mixture of hair and a red complexity to her face, like the colors of fire, that she dearly admired about herself. She had strong, long legs that gave great support to stand her ground, like a tree trunk, while her hair swayed in the wind, like leaves falling to the ground on a windy day. Overall, she was absolutely beautiful but flawed in her temperamental... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ignacia knew she had to change but reluctantly agreed. From there on, Pazia and Ignacia became good friends and worked on her temper. Staying away from other mortals helped, so they stayed in the woods isolated from society and restored nature that Ignacia had damaged. Ignacia began to be very fond of Pazia; she realized that peace was easier and a better lifestyle to live rather than having short patience and being angry. Destrius, being busy with other things, had not noticed Ignacia changing until it was too late. He became furious and approached her as she was singing and gardening the plants. Why have you changed your behavior? I liked it the way it was before, he persuasively said, hinting to revert her behavior back. Ignacia firmly replied with, Well, hello. I am not interested in that old life; I love keeping peace and tending nature, as she remembered the old times. Destrius, mad and jealous that Pazia had taken over, tried to think of a way to change Ignacia back. He knew he would not be able to change her while alive, so he killed Ignacia and turned her into a wildfire, destroying the surrounding area. Her body became a tree, and her red orange hair resembled fire as it danced tree to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Joseph Conrad Influence On Things Fall Apart Books about Africa: How an Author Influences a Reader Without experiencing something firsthand, the only way to gain understanding of a foreign concept is through the words of other people. Thus, without visiting Africa, personal knowledge of it is limited and a reader must make decisions on what to believe. Two books about African culture are Chinua Achebes historical fiction novel Things Fall Apart, and Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of Darkness. After analyzing both of these texts, a reader can see how one s perspective on a subject can be influenced based on how an author chooses to write about it. By using either realism or exaggeration, Achebe and Conrad (respectively) create two different Africas: one that brings African life closer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As such, they describe their stories in differing ways. A quote that illustrates this clash in perspective is found in Things Fall Apart when a visiting missionary thinks about the book he is writing about his experience with the tribe He had already chosen the title of the book, after much thought: The Pacification of the Primitive Tribes of the Lower Niger (Achebe, 171). Achebe wrote this line to show the reader how an outsider can be ignorant to things they don t understand. Reading this line is jarring because of it s dark irony; throughout the whole book, the reader has gone on a journey with Okonkwo and has learned to relate and understand the Igbo. Then at the end of the book, He is using the character of the Commissioner to represent as a whole the post colonial Europeans who misjudge Africans. In fact, Achebe is making a meta reference to the genre of books about African culture which, at the time, were written by European outsiders. Achebe is angered by these authors namely Conrad himself for their stereotyped portrayal of African culture. He is actively writing against the perpetuation of misinformation because he knows that how an author chooses to describe something determines how an outsider will view that ...
