• Today’s EV charging technology is entirely dependent on grid infrastructure
that can’t support the power requirements of ultrafast charging.
• In California, commercialand retail locations cannot accommodatethe additional load required to enable fast and ultrafast charging of electric
vehicles. The California Energy Commission refers to this as the “Red Sea.” Globally, over 17TW of generation capacity additions and
~$14.0 trillion of grid investmentis needed between now and 2050, which is unlikely to occur.

The California Energy Commission refers to this as the “Red Sea.” Globally, over 17TW of generation capacity additions and ~$14.0 trillion of grid investmentis needed between now and 2050, which is unlikely to occur. Each fast charger can require $100K+ in infrastructure costs alone.
