3. emergent labs
is a design studio and strategy consultancy working at the intersection of urban planning, culture, &
mobility. We partner with change agents in the non-profit, private, and government sectors and center the
experiences of local residents, activists, culture bearers, and creatives to improve the outcomes for
racialized people. Our goal is to develop justice-oriented organizations, governments, and companies while
building power in communities of color.
By centering and uplifting the multi-layered Black, Indigenous, People of Color experience, we reimagine
the future of the world with BIPOC as self-determining agents whose lived experiences are inscribed in the
built environment. We do this by challenging dominant discourse & bringing cultural strategy to planning.
We believe this centering is at the heart of true community innovation, radical reimagination, and justice.

Editor's Notes
Worked collaboratively with the community to develop a virtual mobility hub (mobilityhubspilot.org).
What is a mobility hub?
Generate Ideas – push past the intended outcome
Community-Based Planning & Design Thinking
Visioning
Make ideas tangible - build rough prototypes
Test to learn – refine ideas by gathering feedback
Intervention – critical analyses and responsive design solution
Provide residents with direct and 24-hour access to public transit discounts, bike share and EV car share;
Simulate a virtual version of the hubs in preparation for the physical elements at each site;
Provide a streamlined system for transportation & shared mobility discount programs, electric vehicle car share programs onboarding to site coordinators and site level teams;
Center residents by offering an experience that is on par with shared mobility companies - clean interface, high quality infographics, action-oriented buttons and text over extensive information;
Further brand recognition for the Mobility Hubs Pilot Program – we want residents to know the program and recognize the logo and feel a sense of ownership.
Community Needs Assessment
Community Stewardship & Place Cultivation
Community Mobilization & Activism
Generative Job Development
Planning process – community stakeholder questionnaire, design of visual engagement tools, development of final report
