This document describes the design and implementation of a RF-based distribution transformer monitoring system. The system monitors key parameters like load current, voltage, and oil temperature. Sensors collect this data which is sent via RF to a central monitoring station. Parameters are analyzed to identify potential failures from overloading or overheating. The system aims to program a microcontroller to continuously monitor a transformer and cut power via a relay if unsafe conditions are detected, to protect the transformer and power distribution system. It was implemented using an ATmega16 microcontroller, sensors, RF module, LCD display, and relay to automatically monitor and shut off a transformer if parameters exceed safe levels.

This paper describes the development of Wireless Embedded System by using Atmel’s 89C51 microcontroller for monitoring & control of process parameters from remote site .The system utilizes ASK transmitter & receiver for transmission and reception of reference values i.e., temperature and fluid levels from transmitter to receiver. Interaction with transmitter is done through matrix keypad. A TRIAC AC power controller circuit is used in the receiver which controls the flow of power to the heater. The fluid level is maintained by a water feed pump .User friendly Software is developed using 8051’s Assembly language to control the transmitter and receiver units. With IoT we are capable of communicating with system devices and to use the devices data for controlling, monitoring and protecting it. Here the project presents design and development of an online power consumption monitor that uses IoT. Apart from this, the monitoring system detects faults in distribution transformer by verifying and maintaining records of the supply voltage and load current.
Design and development of programmable controller for air sampling machineeSAT Journals
Abstract A programmable Controller is designed and developed for time pedestal controlling of Air Sampling Machine. The major purpose of the designed system is to reduce filter damage of Air Sampling Machine. The main function of the controller is to automatically switching the Air Sampling Machine with predefined On-Off time interval for 24 hours operation. This is a low cost system which is designed using locally available components and user friendly. The controlling operation is maintained by ATMEL AT89C52 microcontroller. A programmable real time clock PCF8583 is used to produce timing control signal for automatic switching of the Air Sampling Machine. Control signals generated by real time clock operate opto-isolator and an electromechanical relay for switching the Air Sampling Machine. EEPROM (M24C64) is used to store necessary data. The instruction firmware for the designed controller has been developed in BASIC platform using BASCOM-8051 software. Transformer is a important part of the transmission and distribution system. Transformers Monitoring for problems before they occurs can prevent the faults that are expensive to repair and results in loss of service. Transformers are the essential part of power transmission network and expensive, as the cost of power failures. Because of much cost of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, especially at the remote sites, the utility industry began investing in instrumentation and monitoring of the transformer. in this project we are implementing and of a mobile embedded system to monitor key parameters of a distribution transformer like load currents, oil level and ambient temperature. The idea of monitoring system integrates a global service mobile Modem, with a single chip microcontroller and different sensor interfacing. It is installed at the distribution transformer site and the above parameters are recorded using the analog to digital converter ADC of the embedded system. The parameters are processed and recorded in the system memory. If any emergency situation occurs the system sends SMS message to the mobile phones containing information about abnormality according to some predefined instructions which are programmed in the microcontroller. This system mobile will help the transformers to operate perfectly and identify problems before any failure. Assi. Prof. T. S. To this aim a low cost smart web sensors has been designed and implemented to acquire, process and transmit data over 802.3 network .It is organized in multi micro controller system. The first one dedicated to the data acquisition and the other to data processing, dynamic HTML pages construction and TCP/IP stack management. Key features of realized devices are low cost, data processing and remote communication capabilities, the possibility to provide data with any internet browser.

A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
