To improve the corrosion resistant properties of carbon steel usually cladding process is used. It is a process of depositing a thick layer of corrosion resistant material over carbon steel plate. Most of the engineering applications require high strength and corrosion resistant materials for long term reliability and performance. By cladding these properties can be achieved with minimum cost. The main problem faced on cladding is the selection of optimum combinations of process parameters for achieving quality clad and hence good clad bead geometry. This paper highlights an experimental study to optimize various input process parameters (welding current, welding speed, gun angle, contact tip to work distance and pinch) to get optimum dilution in stainless steel cladding of low carbon structural steel plates using Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). Experiments were conducted based on central composite rotatable design with full replication technique and mathematical models were developed using multiple regression method. The developed models have been checked for adequacy and significance. In this study, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Simulated Annealing Algorithm (SA) techniques were integrated labels as integrated ANN-SA to estimate optimal process parameters in GMAW to get optimum dilution.

Abstract Bridge construction today has achieved a worldwide level of importance. Bridges are the key elements in any road network Use of prestressed concrete I girder bridge is gaining popularity in bridge engineering fraternity because of its better stability, serviceability, economy, aesthetic appearance and structural efficiency. This paper concerned idea about prestressed concrete. In the method of prestressing two types are consider that pre tensioning and post tensioning .At the time of prestressing different losses are consider. These are the losses due to elastic shortening, friction losses, relaxation losses, losses due to creep and shrinkage. In this way total amount of losses in pretensioning and post tensioning calculate and detailed information has given in this report. The objective is to minimize the total cost in the design process of the bridge system considering the cost of materials like steel, concrete, tendons etc. For a particular problem the design variables considered for the cost minimization of the bridge system, are depth of girder, various cross sectional dimensions of the girder, number of tendons, A programme is developed for analysis and designing an low cost prestressed girder in MATLAB R2010a software. The optimtool is used to find out minimum cost of structure Illustrative case of prestressed girder presented and discuss by using active set method from optimtool. Optimization problem is characterized by considering design variables and bound constraints are according to AASHTOO Standards ,IRC 21-2000 bridge specifications .The proposed cost optimization approach is compared with an existing project which leads to a considerable cost saving while resulting in feasible design. Keywords: Post tension I girder, Conventional design, Optimal design, MATLAB Software etc…

The manufacturing industry caters the range of products to satisfy the ever changing market needs. To overcome the increasing production demands, the industry implies various techniques. We need a technique for increasing the production of drilling two holes on a Railway Pinion, improve the quality of product and reduce the operation time. This project aims to design the Jig and Fixture for the same. The 3-dimensional Computer Aided Model of the components is made using CATIA V5-R21 software. To study the behavior of component, simulation is carried out. Preprocessing of the CAD model is carried in Hypermesh software. Boundary conditions are applied using physical situations of the components. Finite element analysis of the components is done, and the results obtained are compared with the theoretical analysis and also with the available literature. The stresses and deformations are found within desired limits. Using FE analysis, the parts are manufactured and assembled.

Abstract For shear design of R/C beams with rectangular and T-section, there is a number of steps procedure and equations provided by ultimate strength design method according to ACI-code. The large number of equations and fork of solution steps, Causes a lot of confusion and boredom for student or designer. Checked the most common and authoritative textbooks that dealt with design of concrete structures according to (ACI-08). From long experience in teaching reinforced concrete material, show that shear stair has more effect to give beginner engineering students speed to achieve shear design steps by less time and effort. This study focuses on rectangular and T-section beams consider shear force due to the loads applied vertically, using SI units. Finally, I reached a simplified stair to track shear strength steps easily and conveniently, named as shear stair. Index Terms: Shear design; Beam reinforcement; Shear strength; Shear stress distribution.

CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems! Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected. R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production. An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred. R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance. Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production. It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call! Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering. The development of optimization approach which could be used to reduce such laborious jobs will increase the productivity of the organization. This approach intends to reduce the computational costs normally associated with structural design problem. Theoptimizationtechniques in generalenable designer to find the best design for the structures under consideration. In this particular case, the principal design objective is to minimize cost of Rc column and footings. The resulting structure, not only give optimum size but also it give optimum cost with all strength & serviceability requirements for a given applied load. In this study the design of RC column and footing is carried out in Visual Basic Application and the optimization is carried out in MATLAB software. Genetic algorithm is used as optimization technique. The present dissertation provides the comparison between optimum results and books results. Key Words: Optimization,Column,Footing,MATLAB,VBA, Genetic Algorithm 1. INTRODUCTION The Structural Engineering involves understanding the natural phenomenon, material properties, intuition, past experience in design field. The modern technologycanbring various advantages like speed, accuracy, efficiency in the field of Structural Engineering. Design is iterative process initially the cross sections and percentage of reinforcement is assumed then the design is done. The design is to be carried out as per codes and specifications, the Structural engineer experience and knowledge plays an importantrole to achieve the economic and efficientdesign.Designermakes the prediction about probable optimum solutions by his experience, knowledge, constraints and requirements. Optimum design of structures has been theme of many researches in the structural field. An optimal resultnormally involves the most cost-effective structure without harming the functional purposes the structure is made-up to assist. RC structures optimization is mainly depends on the cost concession between the consumption of concrete, reinforcement which decreases the total price of the structure and fulfills the design necessities. In the design optimization of RC structures the sectional dimensions of elements and detailing of reinforcement such as size and number of steel bars, need to be determined. The number of design variables that are need to be optimized depends on the durability requirements. These requirements increases the number of constraints. 1.1 Need For Optimization For single design problem there are many acceptable designs, among all these designs one which is economical will satisfy both Engineering and Structural standards as well as economical need. The process of finding best and economic results with maximum benefit at minimum cost is called optimization. Due to recent advances in Structural designing field it is easy to get a safe design but it is difficult to find the economical design, hence optimization technique is necessary to get most economical design. Which is advantageous in many ways such as material saving, reducing the concrete usage. Hence optimization gained good scope in Structural Engineering. In this project the optimization of column and footing are carried out. 2. PROPOSED METHODOLOGY a. Defining Structural problem. b. Determination of Objective Function, Design Variables and Constraints. c. Development of VBA (visual basic application) codefor design. d. Development of MATLAB programme. e. Solving problem Using Optimization Technique. 3. DESIGN PROCEDURE A code (syntax) for design of RC column and footings has been coded in MS Excel VBA. For RC short column and isolated footing the inputs has to be providedin Excal sheet. The inputs required for column design are factored load (Pu), moment along both X and Y direction (Mux, Muy), effective length of column, grade of concrete (fck), grade of steel (fy), clear cover (d’), diameter of main bars and tie bars. OPTIMIZATION Over last few years’ many mathematical programming methods have been developed to solve the optimization problem. The calculus methods depends on the derivatives, constraints and objective function but in real world the problems are discontinuous and noisy space. The numerical method is effective when number of possible solutions are very small, in high dimensional space it’s difficult to find the optimum values. Due to this type of disadvantages the random search method became more popular. They have been widely applied to a lot of continuous and discrete global optimization problems. Genetic algorithms, oneofthe random search methods, are based on Darwin’sprinciples of natural selection and Fisher’s genetic theory of the natural selection. They were developed by Holland and described in more detail by Goldberg. Genetic algorithms use random selection to optimize an objective function with respect to variables in the presence of constraints on those variables and have been proven successful for robust searches in complex spaces. 4.1 Genetic Algorithms Genetic algorithm is theprocessofresolvingconstrained and unconstrained problems. In GA the concept of survival of fittest is applied. The best fit sorts are continues and the unfit sorts are being rejected. In this process many number of solutions are generated but only the best fit solution is survived on other hand the other solution is thrown. The best fit solutions are taken for the process of crossover. The mutation operative is employed to continue the variability the population. The more fit solutions replaces the less fit solutions and the process continues till the optimum solution is achieves based on the requirements. The main advantage of Gas is we can easily see the progress of each cycle. Using GAs we can solve both constrained and unconstrained problems. Fig 3.1: Flow chart of genetic algorithm.

CONCLUSIONS a. The computational power can be applied to the optimization, suggested method gives the optimum design results within a reasonable amount of time. b. The numerical example results are compared with optimum results and it can be concluded that obtained optimum were better. c. The column results shows that optimization can be done by using different combination of breadth, depth and percentage of reinforcement. d. The footing results shows that the by increasing the depth of footing reinforcement can be reduced which costs higher. REFERENCE [1] V. G. a. J.
