This document presents a method for detecting diabetic retinopathy using local binary patterns. It involves three main stages: pre-processing of fundus images which includes disk segmentation and vessel segmentation, feature extraction using LBP and calculating texture features like variance, mean, skew and standard deviation, and classification of images into DR and non-DR categories using a support vector machine. The method aims to analyze texture of retina background and classify images without requiring segmentation of retinal lesions. It achieved 98% accuracy in detecting diabetic retinopathy using this approach on a dataset of fundus images.

Efficient Small Template Iris Recognition System Using Wavelet TransformCSCJournals
Iris recognition is known as an inherently reliable biometric technique for human identification. Feature extraction is a crucial step in iris recognition, and the trend nowadays is to reduce the size of the extracted features. Special efforts have been applied in order to obtain low templates size and fast verification algorithms. These efforts are intended to enable a human authentication in small embedded systems, such as an Integrated Circuit smart card. In this paper, an effective eyelids removing method, based on masking the iris, has been applied. Moreover, an efficient iris recognition encoding algorithm has been employed. Different combination of wavelet coefficients which quantized with multiple quantization levels are used and the best wavelet coefficients and quantization levels are determined. The system is based on an empirical analysis of CASIA iris database images. Experimental results show that this algorithm is efficient and gives promising results of False Accept Ratio (FAR) = 0% and False Reject Ratio (FRR) = 1% with a template size of only 364 bits.
Microarray Data Classification Using Support Vector MachineCSCJournals
DNA microarrays allow biologist to measure the expression of thousands of genes simultaneously on a small chip. These microarrays generate huge amount of data and new methods are needed to analyse them. In this paper, a new classification method based on support vector machine is proposed. The proposed method is used to classify gene expression data recorded on DNA microarrays. It is found that the proposed method is faster than neural network and the classification performance is not less than neural network.
Abstract:
A technique for exudate detectionin fundus image is been presented in this paper. Due to diabetic retinopathy an abnormality is caused known as exudates. The loss of vision can be prevented by detecting the exudates as early as possible. The work mainly aims at detecting exudates which is present in the green channel of the RGB image by applying few preprocessing steps, DWT and feature extraction. The extracted features are fed to 3 different classifiers such as KNN, SVM and NN. Based on the classifier result if an exudate is present the extraction of exudate ROI is done based on canny edge detection followed by morphological operations. The severity of the exudates is established on the area of the detected exudate.

There are three major complications of diabetes which lead to blindness. They are retinopathy, cataracts, and glaucoma among which diabetic retinopathy is considered as the most serious complication affecting the blood vessels in the retina. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) occurs when tiny vessels swell and leak fluid or abnormal new blood vessels grow hampering normal vision.
Diabetic retinopathy is a widespread problem of visual impairment. The abnormalities like microaneurysms, hemorrhages and exudates are the key symptoms which play an important role in diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. Early detection of these abnormalities may prevent the blurred vision or vision loss due to diabetic retinopathy. Basically exudates are lipid lesions able to be seen in optical images. Exudates are categorized into hard exudates and soft exudates based on its appearance. Hard exudates come out as intense yellow regions and soft exudates have fuzzy manifestations. Automatic detection of exudates may aid ophthalmologists in diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy and its early treatment. Fig. 1 shows the key symptoms of diabetic retinopathy.

A review on implementation of algorithms for detection of diabetic retinopathyeSAT Journals
Abstract Diabetes is a group of metabolic disease in which a person has high blood sugar. Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is caused by the abnormalities in the retina due to insufficient insulin in the body. It can lead to sudden vision loss due to delayed detection of retinopathy. So that Diabetic patients require regular medical checkup for effective timing of sight –saving treatment. This is continuous and stimulating research area for automated analysis of Diabetic Retinopathy in Diabetic patients. A completely automated screening system for the detection of Diabetic Retinopathy can effectively reduces the burden of the specialist and saves cost as well as time. Due to noise and other disturbances that occur during image acquisition Diabetic Retinopathy may lead to false detection and this is overcome by various image processing techniques. Further the different features are extracted which serves as the guideline to identify and grade the severity of the disease. Based on the extracted features classification of the retinal image as normal or abnormal is carried out. In this paper, we have presented detail study of various screening methods for Diabetic Retinopathy. Many researchers have made number of attempts to improve accuracy, predictivity, sensitivity and specificity. Keywords: Color Fundus Images, Diabetic Retinopathy, Exudates, Lesions.
Binary operation based hard exudate detection and fuzzy based classification ...IJECEIAES
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most considerable reasons for visual impairment. The main objective of this paper is to automatically detect and recognize DR lesions like hard exudates, as it helps in diagnosing and screening of the disease. Here, binary operation based image processing for detecting lesions and fuzzy logic based extraction of hard exudates on diabetic retinal images are discused. In the initial stage, the binary operations are used to identify the exudates. Similarly, the RGB channel space of the DR image is used to create fuzzy sets and membership functions for extracting the exudates. The membership directives obtained from the fuzzy rule set are used to detect the grade of exudates. In order to evaluate the proposed approach, experiment tests are carriedout on various set of images and the results are verified. From the experiment results, the sensitivity obtained is 98.10%, specificity is 96.96% and accuracy is 98.2%. These results suggest that the proposed method could be a diagnostic aid for ophthalmologists in the screening for DR.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is an ailment of the eye caused by diabetes. People suffering from diabetes can procure the disease. DR is caused when the high blood sugar level damages the blood vessels of the eye. Also due to high blood sugar level abnormal blood vessels can grow in the retina. This can make the patient lose its vision. Unfortunately, the symptoms of DR cannot be detected easily. The disease can grow increasingly if left untreated. Hence it becomes all the more important to detect DR. In this paper we have made use of Image processing Technique like canny edge detection to extract the features necessary to detect DR and find the severity of the disease. The features extracted from the image can be used to detect DR by various other methods like SVM, Logistic Regression, etc.
Medical Image Fusion Using Discrete Wavelet TransformIJERA Editor
Medical image fusion is the process of registering and combining multiple images from single or multiple imaging modalities to improve the imaging quality and reduce randomness and redundancy in order to increase the clinical applicability of medical images for diagnosis and assessment of medical problems. Multimodal medical image fusion algorithms and devices have shown notable achievements in improving clinical accuracy of decisions based on medical images. The domain where image fusion is readily used nowadays is in medical diagnostics to fuse medical images such as CT (Computed Tomography), MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and MRA. This paper aims to present a new algorithm to improve the quality of multimodality medical image fusion using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) approach. Discrete Wavelet transform has been implemented using different fusion techniques including pixel averaging, maximum minimum and minimum maximum methods for medical image fusion. Performance of fusion is calculated on the basis of PSNR, MSE and the total processing time and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of fusion scheme based on wavelet transform.
Improving of Fingerprint Segmentation Images Based on K-MEANS and DBSCAN Clus...IJECEIAES
Nowadays, the fingerprint identification system is the most exploited sector of biometric. Fingerprint image segmentation is considered one of its first processing stage. Thus, this stage affects typically the feature extraction and matching process which leads to fingerprint recognition system with high accuracy. In this paper, three major steps are proposed. First, Soble and TopHat filtering method have been used to improve the quality of the fingerprint images. Then, for each local block in fingerprint image, an accurate separation of the foreground and background region is obtained by K-means clustering for combining 5-dimensional characteristics vector (variance, difference of mean, gradient coherence, ridge direction and energy spectrum). Additionally, in our approach, the local variance thresholding is used to reduce computing time for segmentation. Finally, we are combined to our system DBSCAN clustering which has been performed in order to overcome the drawbacks of K-means classification in fingerprint images segmentation. The proposed algorithm is tested on four different databases. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach is significantly efficacy against some recently published techniques in terms of separation between the ridge and non-ridge region.

Automatic detection of optic disc and blood vessels from retinal images using...eSAT Journals
Abstract Diabetic retinopathy is the common cause of blindness. This paper presents the mathematical morphology method to detect and eliminate the optic disc (OD) and the blood vessels. Detection of optic disc and the blood vessels are the necessary steps in the detection of diabetic retinopathy because the blood vessels and the optic disc are the normal features of the retinal image. And also, the optic disc and the exudates are the brightest portion of the image. Detection of optic disc and the blood vessels can help the ophthalmologists to detect the diseases earlier and faster. Optic disc and the blood vessels are detected and eliminated by using mathematical morphology methods such as closing, filling, morphological reconstruction and Otsu algorithm. The objective of this paper is to detect the normal features of the image. By using the result, the ophthalmologists can detect the diseases easily. Retinal blood vessel extraction and optical disc removaleSAT Journals
Abstract Retinal image processing is an important process by which we can detect the blood vessels and this helps us in detecting the DIABETIC RETINOPATHY at a early stage and this is very helpful because the symptoms are not known by anyone unless we have blur eye sight or we get blind. And this mainly occurs in people suffering from high diabetes. So by extracting the blood vessels using the algorithm we can see which blood vessels are actually damaged. So by using the algorithm we can continuously survey the situation and can protect our eye-sight. Keywords: field of view, retinopathy, thresholding, morphology, Otsu's algorithm, MATLAB.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.
