The document discusses key concepts in sociology of education including social systems, sociological theories, and prominent theorists. It divides sociological theories into two parts - consensus theory, which focuses on social order and integration, and conflict theory, which examines social inequality and power struggles. The major theorists discussed are Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, and Max Weber. Marx's class theory centers on class struggles. Durkheim explores how modern society is held together by division of labor. Weber defines social action as an action that is meaningful to the actor.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
MATATAG CURRICULUM: ASSESSING THE READINESS OF ELEM. PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS I...NelTorrente
In this research, it concludes that while the readiness of teachers in Caloocan City to implement the MATATAG Curriculum is generally positive, targeted efforts in professional development, resource distribution, support networks, and comprehensive preparation can address the existing gaps and ensure successful curriculum implementation.
How to Build a Module in Odoo 17 Using the Scaffold MethodCeline George
Odoo provides an option for creating a module by using a single line command. By using this command the user can make a whole structure of a module. It is very easy for a beginner to make a module. There is no need to make each file manually. This slide will show how to create a module using the scaffold method.
How to Build a Module in Odoo 17 Using the Scaffold Method
Introduction to Social Dimension
1. Let’s divide the class into 3
groups
Fall in line
You need to arrange yourselves
in accordance to what your
facilitator says
2. For Example
According to the length of your hair
The person who has the shortest hair will go
to the front while the person who has the
longest hair will go to the back
The quickest group who WILL finish arranging
themselves will get a corresponding point
BEST OF THREE
4. Sociological Theory
•Theories guide research and policy formulation in the
sociology of education
•They also provide logical explanations for why things
happen the way they do.
•Theories help sociologist understand educational systems
•Educational theories change over time and (cultural) space.
5. Sociology of
Education
• The sociology of education is the study
of how social institutions and individual
experiences affects education and its
outcome.
• It is relatively a new branch and two
great sociologist Émile Durkheim and Max
Weber were the father of sociology of
education. Émile Durkheim's work on moral
6. Social System
•Consist of plurality of individual actors interacting with each
other with at least physical or environmental aspect.
•Social system copes with the integration of function by
controlling its component parts.
•Cultural system performs the latency function by providing the
norms and values that motivates them for action.
7. •Society has two faces (Dahrendorf; 1959,1968)
•Sociological Theory should be divided into 2 parts. Conflict
Theory and Consensus Theory
8. Sociology
• The word Sociology originates from latin
prefix :socius, "companion"; and the suffix
-ology, "the study of", from Greek lógos,
"knowledge" .
•Sociology is the systematic study of
society. Sociology encompasses all the
elements of society is social relation, social
stratification, social interaction, culture.
9. Society
•:people in general thought of as living
together in organized communities with
shared laws, traditions, and values
•the people of a particular country, area,
time, etc., thought of especially as an
organized community
15. KarlMarx
Marx's class theory
rests on the premise
that "the history of
all hitherto existing
society is the history
of class struggles."
16. Emile Durkheim
Durkheim discusses how
modern society is held
together by a division of
labor that makes
individuals dependent
upon one another because
they specialize in
different types of work.
17. Max Weber
An action that a
person does not
think about cannot
be a social
action.
Why did we play this?
What we want u to realized is that we really have differences.
Buti nga hindi naming sinama yung fingerprint, yung maganda. Maraming susugod! May magwewelga!
Acepting ur uniqueness makes u even more beautiful. Yes you are different. Ganun din a mga future students natin they have differences.
That’s what u need to find out.
We need to know who we are and we need to accept it. We need to know our students and we need to accept them.
As a part of your family, as a student, as a future educator, as a Filipino and as a human being we have a great role to play in our society and ur uniqueness is your best weapon to make an impact to the world. We need to accept diversity and accept ur responsibilities to ur society
Sociologists see education as one of the major institutions that constitutes to the society.
Education has a great part in the society. Education contributes something that is so great. And kanino ba galling madalas ang education? Sa teacher. Sayo. Ibig sabihin, u have a great responsibility to the society. Nakasalalay sa’yo ang future.
Simple as this, we can see the future of the nation by just looking on our campus. “Ang kabataaan ang pagasa ng bayan na ba itu?” Yes it is, e can see the nation by looking at the next generation. That means to say, we are not just a teacher teaching our student. We are a builder of our nation. What u do in UR life, can affect the society. Turuan mo ung isa, may impact yan sa society.
U can mke a great impact.
Education is part of our life. There’s always something to learn. Pumunta ka sa isang community kahit maliit man yan o Malaki, merong eskwelehan.
Ngayon mas papalawakin natin. Through this subject we should make our student not just to learn but also to learn to live together. No man is an island.
We will help them to learn their reponsibilitie to the society, to accept diversity, accept the ociety, and to be accepted by the society.
Here malalaman natin theories about society. Just like, consensus theory, conflict theory, functionalist theory, interaction theory, etc.
Dito we will know, Posible ba na pwedeng walang conflict sa isang society?
Hre, we will know yung mga explanations according na rin sa mga proponents ng theories na ito.
By this malalaman din natin kung bakit sa Colombia tinuturo sa mga bata na ang we only have 5 continents and not seven (America S AND North and Eurasia as one)
Educational theories change—of coure kasi nag-iiba na rin ang panahon. Bakit nung mga lumang panahon tinuturo lang ang paglilinis ng bahay? We will see a lot on this.
I believe through this we will learn how cultures affect the education system. Ho society or environment affects the students?
Through Durkheim theory we will know how unity affects the society?
Social system- Of course it’s not only u. Hindi ka nagiisa sa paggawa ng isang bagay. Social nga di ba? Kausapin ang sarili. Tho its’ goods to talk to urself or to be with urself. Pero hindi lagi. Tapos may pahaak pa sa buhok. Kaya mo yan! (tap ur back) God bless u. Pray for u. Ang ganda mo. Social system consists u and them. You are working with others.
Social system- pumapasok din diyan yung mga responsibilities natin. Si teacher magtuturo, si leader maglelead, si architect magdedesign ng bahay, si estudyante magaaral. We have our parts to play para magwork ung isang society.
Sometimes byculture kung paano tayo magset ng standard natin sa tama at mali. Like sa atin we are not that liberated compare sa mga western countries. Conservative pa rin naman tayong maituturing.
Later we will discuss about that.
Pero tama nga ba ang isang bagay na sinasabi ng karamihan na tama?
According to some sociologist; society has two faces; the face of consensus and the face of conflict.
Further, they emphasized that sociological theory should be divided into two parts between the consensus theory and the conflict theory.
Pero paano naman kung ganito…
Simple classroom thing muna tayo.
Tama ba ang mangopya kung karamihan nangongopya na. Unity daw hindi cheating. Helping ang tawag doon hindi cheatin. Sharing ang tawag doon hindi cheating. Aish.
Etymology thing.
Division of society
Society is where you ate. San ka kabilang?
It is a social endeavour designed to get the maximum from the ability of each of the member of the society. Education covers both the teaching, learning of knowledge and values.
Education consists of systematic instruction, teaching and training by professional teachers.
According to this view, ever since human society emerged from its primitive and relatively undifferentiated state it has remained fundamentally divided between classes who clash in the pursuit of class interests.
We are divided according to class, may elite at dukha, may babae at lalaki. Division of society
Durkheim is particularly concerned about how the division of labor changes the way that individuals feel they are part of society as a whole.
Ito na yung sinasabi kong division of labor. Teacher magtuturo, leader maglelead, architect magdedesign ng mga bahay. Bakers gonna bake, breakers gonna, players gonna play, shake it off LOL
Max Weber believed that it was social actions that should be the focus of study in sociology. To Weber, a “social action’” was an action carried out by an individual to which an individual attached a meaning.
I have this picture.
Try to observe it…
Fairness
Hustisya
Equality
The same quality that’s equity
Multi intelligence.
Explore more as ateacher. Ung iba kaya niya, eh paano namna ung iba.
Agai, we are not different from others, we are just uniqiue. Society needs us.
