Interpersonal relationships refer to associations between two or more individuals that are based on social, cultural, and personal factors. There are several types of interpersonal relationships including intimate relationships, family relationships, and business relationships. Continuing interpersonal relationships typically progress through five stages - acquaintance, build-up, continuation, deterioration, and termination. The stages involve developing trust and compatibility during the build-up phase, committing to a long-term relationship during continuation, barriers causing a downfall during deterioration, and ultimately ending the relationship.
