In the era of globalization, human relation skills are
essential to handle a variety of people hailing from
different culture, caste and different age groups with
different life styles.
 In order to bring about productivity a positive work
culture having its essence on responsibility and
accountability becomes crucial for every one
particularly nurses to have human relation skills.
MEANING
Nurses must be skilled enough to handle
human relation and communication for
understanding human behavior.
unique composition of knowledge, clinical work
and interpersonal communication is necessarily
required for prudent nursing professional
practice.
Objectives of Human Relations in
Nursing Educational Institutions
To strengthen and appreciate the human assets
continuously by providing training and
development programs.
To establish and maintain organizational structure
and desirable working relationships among
various stakeholders of a college/university.
To provide fair, acceptable and efficient leadership.
To provide optimal opportunities for expression and voice
management.
To secure the integration of individual or groups within
the institution by coordination of the individual/group
goals and aligning with those of the institution.
Strategies for Human Relations
in Nursing
Nurses who wanted to have good human
relations in teaching and practice setting need to
be a good role-model by themselves.
Hence, the following criteria need to be
followed to have an efficient human relation:
Speaking graciously to people
 Smiling in a compassionate manner at people
Calling people by their first name
 Being friendly and helpful Maintaining cordial
relationship with colleagues
Being genuinely interested in people
Being generous with praise, be cautious while
giving criticism
 Being considerate of the feelings of others
Being thoughtful and respectful about the
opinion of others
 Being alert to give service
Giving credit to whom credit is due
Being grateful always
Admitting one's unintentional mistakes
Recognizing the merits of others' opinions
Criticizing or arguing in a tactful and polite
manner
