Creating abundance in the global innovation econ Curtis Carlson3helix
The document discusses the need for innovation to drive economic prosperity. It argues that the current economic system is stuck and not competitive on a global scale. True innovation requires following fundamentals like identifying important customer needs, creating value through an iterative process, building strong teams, and establishing an ecosystem that supports innovation. National laboratories and universities must bridge the gap between research and commercialization. The key is focusing on innovation as a discipline centered around these fundamentals to create high-paying jobs and meaningful prosperity.

This document summarizes a meeting on ageing and long term care technology. It provides an agenda for the meeting which included presentations on inspiring practices from China, Brazil, and the Netherlands on supporting elderly populations. A key finding from a survey of 23 countries is that while financing is crucial for innovation, solutions tend to rely on public-private funds rather than new financing models like pay-per-use that could provide sustainable funding beyond initial support. The document outlines best practices in supporting elderly populations through technology, community involvement, and organizational cooperation.

Managing the Data Deluge: Cisco’s Nick Adamo on how SPs can support the mobil...Cisco Canada
- Mobile data traffic is expected to grow 26x from 2010-2015 due to shifting usage patterns and the rise of smartphones and tablets.
- The majority of mobile data consumption now occurs indoors on WiFi networks, exceeding cellular capacity in some locations.
- To effectively manage the explosive growth in traffic, a more elastic network architecture is needed that incorporates small cells, heterogeneous access, and mobile cloud services.
In this presentation from GTEC 2011, Canada's Government Technology Event, Cisco Canada's CTO Jeff Seifert "connects the dots" on technology trends such as the rapid acceleration of video adoption, consumer devices in the workplace, the impacts of social media, increasing security requirements, data centre and desktop virtualization and smart buildings - and what it all means today and in the future.

Has video really killed the audio star?Cisco Canada
Video has drastically transformed the way we work with remote teams, business partners and customers. We have gone from faceless “who just joined?” audio only solutions to HD quality “better than being there” video options that foster active participation no matter your location or device.
Cisco has modernized and simplified our Video solutions. In this session, we will cover our repertoire of end points (from the pocket to the boardroom), the infrastructure that powers these end points (cloud, hybrid and on-premise), and the integration with other collaboration tools and applications (interoperability with Cisco and other vendor soft phones, hard phones, and conferencing).
The right Wireless Architecture for youCisco Canada
This document discusses different wireless network architectures from Cisco, including autonomous access points, centralized architecture, and FlexConnect architecture. Autonomous access points are managed individually while centralized architecture uses wireless LAN controllers for centralized management. FlexConnect is an extension of centralized that allows some local switching and control at remote branch sites for better WAN efficiency and high availability when the connection to the main controller fails. The document provides details on how each architecture works, available access point and controller options, benefits and limitations of each.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
