The document summarizes a study that investigated using an extract from the plant Dialum guinnesse as a natural corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in Fanta, a carbonated drink. Coupons of mild steel were immersed in Fanta with and without the plant extract at different temperatures. Weight loss and corrosion rates were measured and inhibition efficiencies were calculated. Results showed the plant extract reduced corrosion and performed better at lower temperatures, with inhibition efficiencies up to 74%. Scanning electron microscopy images showed the inhibited steel surface was better protected than the uninhibited surface. The study demonstrated the potential of the plant extract as a natural and eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in carbonated drinks like Fanta.

ORGANIC COATINGS FOR CORROSION PROTECTION OF TRANSFORMERS IN UNDERGROUND CHAM...Adriana de Araujo
Underground electrical transformers are frequently submitted to a very aggressive environment because of the stagnated water of underground chambers which is heated and contaminated. In Brazil, carbon steel structures of underground transformers are usually protected with coal tar epoxy paints in order to ensure their reliability. However, the use of this type of paints is being strongly restricted because coal tar contains complex mixtures of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons which contain many toxic and potentially carcinogenic substances. Aiming at replacing coal tar based paints by an environmentally friendly one; several paints were selected in the local market and submitted to performance tests in order to compare them with coal tar based paint. In addition, anodes were evaluated to study the application of galvanic cathodic protection in areas of metal exposure due to coating flaws. This paper presents and discusses the obtained results.

Corrosion inhibition of heat treated mild steel with neem leave extract in a ...eSAT Journals
Abstract Influence of Neem leave extract on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in a chloride medium was investigated. It was carried out by immersing as-received and heat treated mild steel coupons in salt water with various concentrations of Neem leave extract ranging from 0-20%. Method of investigation was gravimetric, based on weight loss of coupons in the different solutions. The results show that mild steel samples immersed in salt water without Neem leave extract exhibited a much higher weight loss as compared to those with Neem leave extract. A unique trend observed in these investigations was that weight loss was higher for the as-received than the heat treated samples prior to addition of Neem leave extract into the corrosive medium. On addition of the Neem leave extract, a reversed trend was observed where weight loss of the heat treated became higher than the as-received coupons. Change in corrosion rate was insignificant for the control samples for both as-received and heat treated samples. On the contrary, an evident decreasing trend was observed for the heat treated samples while those of as-received were insignificant with time. However. 5% inhibitor showed best corrosion inhibition with the least corrosion rates. The overall results indicate that Neem leave extract effectively inhibits mild steel corrosion in a chloride medium Keywords: Corrosion, mild steel, salt water, inhibitor, Neem leave, heat treatment
Utilization of Melon and Snail Shell Waste Mixtures in the Carburization of M...ijtsrd
As long as industrial and agricultural activities go on, wastes will continue to be generated. In view of this, wastes recycling/or conversion to other reusable materials that can be utilize by another industrial set-up is fast receiving worldwide attention. In this research work, the assessment of the suitability of melon and snail shell wastes mixtures in enhancing the surface hardness of mild steel via the pack carburization method has been investigated. The carburization process was carried out at the temperatures of 9000C, 9200C and 940oC for the soaking times of 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes respectively, and then quenched in water toharden. Thereafter, they were tempered at 2500Cfor 1 hour to relieve the residual stresses introduced into the steel specimens as a result of quenching. Standard method was adopted to determine the surface hardness of the carburized and un-carburized test specimens. Micro-structure examination was also performed using standard metallographic techniques to observe the microstructures formed. The results of the study showed increase in the surface hardness of all the carburized steel specimens in the different carburizing media. The steel specimens carburized with 80% snail shell wastes plus 20% melon shell wastes mixture had higher hardness values than those carburized with 100% snail shell wastes only. The maximum surface hardness values of 118VHN, 128VHN and 129VHN were obtained at thecarburizing temperatures of 9000C, 9200C and 9400C respectively, for the soaking time of 60 minutes with thespecimens carburized with snail and melon shell wastes mix. It was observed that theprocess variables (temperature and soaking time) significantly impacted on the quantity of carbon absorbed at the steel surface as depicted by the surface hardness values. The results of the research work have established the viability of melon and snail shell wastes mixture as an alternative source of carburizers in enhancing the surface hardness of mild steel. A Study of Newly Schiff Base as Corrosion Inhibitor for Metal Corrosion in Ac...ijtsrd
The Schiff base 2 3,4 dihydroxy 5 nitrophenyl methylidene hydrazine 1 carbothioamide DHNPMHC synthesized by condensation of 3,4 dihydroxcy 5 nitro benzaldehyde and thiosemicarbazide. The structure of Schiff base was characterized by elemental analysis, FT IR and UV – Vis methods. The inhibition efficiency of DHNPMHC towards the corrosion of iron in 0.5M HCl was investigated using weight loss measurement technique. Results showed that DHNPMHC is an effective inhibitor for iron corrosion in 0.5M HCl solution. The inhibition efficiency also increased with concentration of inhibitor increased. The maximum corrosion inhibition e ciency of inhibitor reported at 5 5X10 5M inhibitor concentration is 89.52 . Adsorption of the inhibitor on the iron surface followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The Effects of Inhibition on Corrosion of Mild Steel in H2SO4 Using Ethanol E...theijes
In this paper, adsorption and thermodynamic study of the inhibition of corrosion of mild steel in 1M H2SO4 medium using ethanol extract of vernonia amygdalina was carried out using weight loss and IR methods of monitoring corrosion. The results reveal that ethanol extract of vernonia amygdalina inhibited corrosion of mild steel. The inhibition efficiency ranged from 83.91% to 89.11%, 81.09 % to 85.00%, 81.08% to 84.90% and 77.45% to 79.66% at 303, 313, 323 and 333K respectively. The inhibition efficiency of the extract increased as the concentration of the extract increases but decreased as temperature and time of immersion increases. The adsorption of the inhibitor on the surface of mild steel was found to be exothermic, spontaneous and consistent with the mechanism of physical adsorption as the value for heat of adsorption ranged from -35.22 to -42.90J/mol. The adsorption of the inhibitor followed the Langmuir isotherm. IR spectra of the corrosion product (without inhibitor), the extract and the corrosion product (with the inhibitor) confirmed that ethanol extract of vernonia amygdalina is an adsorption inhibitor.
Thymus Vulgarize extract (TVE) was reported to be good corrosion inhibitor for copper and
brass in acid media. This paper presents experimental study to investigate the efficiency of Thyme
leaves extract as corrosion inhibitor for concrete reinforcing steel samples exposed to alkaline
solution consisting of 2% KOH and 3% NaCl which is a simulation to the chloride contaminated
concrete pore solution (SCP) using open circuit potential and potentiodynamic polarization
technique. Various concentration (100 ml/L, 150 ml/L, 250 ml/L) of TVE were used in this
experiment. Open circuit potential (OCP) measurements indicated a shifting in potential toward
noble direction for steel samples immersed in SCP solution containing TVE compared with control
sample.
Corrosion of mild steel in HCl was investigated using the weight loss method. The
mild steel used was cut into 16 coupons with 5.0 cm x 5.0 cm x 0.2 cm dimensions
which were degreased with ethanol and washed with distilled water and finally
weighed. The mild steel coupons were exposed to HCl with varied concentrations (0,
10, 25 and 40%) of Garcinia kola extracts used as corrosion inhibitors for 4 hours at
400C and 600C respectively. The result showed that at 400C; the inhibition efficiency
of 65.5% was observed at 25 % HCl concentration and 62.9% at 40% HCl
concentration while at 600C; inhibition efficiency of 87.7% was at 25% HCl
concentration and 88.1% at 40% concentration respectively. It can be concluded that
increase in concentration increases the inhibition efficiency. The presence of
flavonoid and alkanoids in bitter kola stem is a good inhibitor.
Performance Characteristics of various Corrugated Roofing Sheets in Nigeriaijceronline
This Paper is based on an experiment carried out on different roofing sheets namely aluminum, galvanized steel, plastic and asbestos of various grades. The aluminum samples were obtained from two different companies in Nigeria namely First Aluminum and Tower Aluminum; the Asbestos was obtained from Emenite while the Steel and Plastic samples were bought from the market. The samples were cut into a particular size (8cm by 5cm) and immersed in various media namely acidic (H2SO4), alkaline (NaOH), Sea water and Rain water in 2litres plastic beakers. The Rain water was used as the control medium for the experiment. The experiment was carried out for 70days and each grade was cut into 14 pieces of the same dimension. The samples were washed, weighed and tagged before immersion in the media. Each sample was removed every 5 days, washed thoroughly, dried and re-weighed. Some of the samples corroded while some resisted corrosion. The differences in the weights of the samples, and hence their respective rates of corrosion were obtained depending on the reacting media. The values that were obtained, the weight loss and weight gain were used to determine the corrosion rates per unit area per unit time. Graphs of specific weight loss/gain against time were plotted for each medium and each sample. Based on our graphs and observations, we can say that the coated samples are more resistant to corrosion, and therefore more durable.

Red Dragon Fruit (Selenicereus costaricensis) Waste Peels as Corrosion Inhibi...Innspub Net
Metal corrosion is brought about by the oxidation of atoms on the surface, resulting in irreversible damage to structures at staggering costs. Hence, the search for efficient and cost-effective corrosion inhibitors is relevant. Waste agricultural by-products which have no food or economic value serve as good potential sources for these environmentally benign corrosion inhibitors. Ethanolic extracts of Red Dragon Fruit (RDF) have been previously reported to contain high amounts of flavonoids and polyphenols, which can manifest inhibitory activity against corrosion brought about by aggressive electrolytes. In this study, the ethanolic extract of Selenicereus costaricensis waste peels was tested for its anti-corrosion property using weight loss method. We have also probed its performance as a potential corrosion inhibitor at a range of different temperatures from 303 to 343 K. The calculated inhibition efficiency of 2% RDF was 97%. Thermodynamic studies reveal that increasing inhibitor concentration raises the activation parameters of mild steel in an acidic medium such as activation energy (Ea) and changes in enthalpy (DHo) and entropy (DSo). It was found that the corrosion inhibition process using RDF waste peel extract mainly occurs under diffusion control. Moreover, increased immersion time, inhibitor concentration, and temperature led to increased inhibition efficiency. The spontaneous process (DGoads = -23.47 kJ/mol) of adsorption of RDF on mild steel surfaces obeys the Langmuir isotherm model.

The effect of inhibitor concentration and immersion time on the corrosion rate and inhibition efficiency of
AISI 1019 steel in seawater environment were investigated by means of weight loss measurement (WLM) at an interval
of 6days for a period of 60 days. AISI 1019 steel were immersed in seawater solution in the absence and presence of
varying inhibitor concentrations of potassium chromate (PC), Sodium Nitrite(SN), Methyl Orange (MO), Methyl Red
(MR), Terminalia Catappa Leaves (TCL) Extract, Carica papaya Leaves (CPL) Extract. The results showed that there is an
increase in inhibition efficiency with increase in inhibitor concentration and decrease in inhibition efficiency with
increase in immersion time. The inorganic inhibitor (potassium chromate), inorganic inhibitor (Sodium Nitrite), the
organic Inhibitor (Methyl Orange), the organic inhibitor (Methyl Red), the green inhibitor (Terminalia Catappa Leaves)
and green inhibitor (Carica Papaya Leaves) produced their best inhibition efficiency of 71.94%, 634%, 68.94%, 68.32%,
627% ,59.79% respectively at a concentration of 10g/L. From the result obtained, the potassium chromate inhibitor has
better inhibitory property than other inhibitors, which revealed that it is best suited for inhibition of corrosion of mild
steel in seawater environment.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.
