The management of soil organic matter is crucial to maintain a productive organic farming system. No one source of nutrient usually fulfills to maintain productivity and quality control in organic system. In addition, the inputs to supplement nutrient availability are often not uniform presenting additional challenges in meeting the nutrient requirements of crops in organic system. With this concept, a field experiment was conducted at the research farm of ASPEE Agricultural Research and Development Foundation, Tansa Farm, at Nare, Taluka Wada, Dist. Palghar, Maharashtra, during Kharif 2018-19 in rice. Different treatments comprising organic amendments such as T1-FYM @ 5 t/ha (control), T2-T1 + vermicompost @2.5 t/ha, T3-T1+Neem cake @ 250 kg, T4- T1+ vermiwash @ 3% spray, T5-T1+ Jeevamrut @ 3 % spray, T6-T1+ Panchgavya @ 3 % Spray, T7-T1+ Enriched Bananpseudostem sap @ 3% spray and T8-T1+ Regular Banana sap @ 3% spray were tried in organic crop production. These treatments were compared with absolute control (FYM @ 5 t/ha + No biofertilizer+ No Spray). A Rice variety ‘GR-11’ was taken for study. Results revealed a significant enhancement in grain yield of rice over absolute control due to the application of different organic amendments applied alone or in combinations. The rice grain yield (3.19 t ha-1) obtained under combined application of FYM and vermicompost was at par with the yield recorded under neem cake, vermiwash and panchgavya. An interesting observation recorded was that there was no serious attack of any insects pest or disease in organically grown crop. The study revealed that addition of four organic amendments viz. vermicompost, vermiwash, neem cake&panchgavyacould give the optimum yield of organic rice var. GR-11.

The high cost of inorganic fertilizer and continuous decline in soil fertility results to low crop yield hence, the need to supplement mineral fertilizer with organic manure. Field experiments were conducted in 2013 and 2014 cropping seasons at the Teaching and Research Farm, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Gubi, Bauchi State, Nigeria, to investigate the effects of different levels of cattle manure, CM, (0, 5 and 10 t/ha) and NPK (0, 200 and 400kg/ha) on the growth, yield and yield components of hybrid maize (Zea mays L.). These treatment combinations were replicated three times in a randomized complete block design. CM levels had significant effect (P≤0.05) on number of leaves per plant and plant height. However, NPK levels also had significant effect on many characters in both 2013 and 2014 but lower mean values were recorded in 2013. In 2014, significant interactions were observed in mean number of leaves, plant height, husk weight and yield (t/ha). The highest seed yield (5.65t/ha) was obtained when 5t/ha CM was used, which was statistically similar (5.60t/ha) to 400kg/ha inorganic fertilizer used. The application of 5t/ha CM or 400kg/ha NPK is recommended for improved production of hybrid maize in the study area.

To meet our food security demands, Papua New Guinea (PNG) needs to improve smallholder subsistence agriculture by promoting the production of cash crops that mature early and have a high market value. Peanut is a typical example of a cash crop which potentially has a high market value, but pod yields are low due to declinein soil quality. A field experiment was conducted under 4 different land use systems (LUS) to evaluate the effects of continuous peanut cultivation on peanut pod yield and on selected soil properties. Peanut pod yield declined significantly under the continuous peanut and peanut/corn rotation systems; while the poultry manure and land fallow systems significantly increased pod yield. Over the 3 cropping seasons, significant changes in organic carbon; extractable potassium and CEC in all cropping systems occurred, while changes in total N was significant in the peanut/corn rotation and poultry manure cropping systems only. No significant changes in bulk density; field capacity; electrical conductivity; soil pH and available phosphorus were observed in all the 4 LUS over the 3 cropping seasons. We suggest that adequate fallow periods of more than 1 year and poultry manures are applied to enhance soil quality and improve peanut productivity and/or sustain peanut production in marginal lands under continuous cultivation

Investigation of Correlation Coefficient for Forage and Grain Yield with Rela...Premier Publishers
Oat (Avena sativa L.) is a staple worldwide in both human and animal nutrition. It is mainly grown for livestock, depending on its grain and forage yield in Turkey. This study was based on defining correlation coefficients of some oat genotypes (nine lines and three cultivars) in Konya, Turkey, among fodder and grain yields, and their components. The experimental design of this study was a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The correlations were analyzed after harvesting at milk to dough period. The findings illustrated that there was a significant positive correlation between green fodder yield and leaf weights in ten stems, and grain yield and the number of panicles stems per square meter. The highest negative correlations was found between green fodder yield and the number of panicles stems per square meter, and grain yield and 50% flowering periods in addition to green fodder yield. This research suggests that the number of panicles stems per square meter and dry fodder yield would be selection criteria for grain yield. The number of leaves per stem, the number of nodes, and plant height would also be considered for green fodder yield by oat breeders in their program in Anatolia.

— A field study was carried out to at Agriculture Research Institute, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, to investigate the effect of various nitrogen levels on growth and yield contributing traits of two wheat varieties. Wheat varieties Benazir and TJ-83 were evaluated against four nitrogen levels (0, 90, 120 and 150 kg ha-1).The results revealed that the effect of nitrogen levels as well as varieties differed significantly for all the growth and yield contributing traits and N @ 150 kg ha-1 resulted in maximum values for plant height (87.66 cm), number of tillers m-2 (265.17), spike length (13.05 cm), number of spikelets spike-1 (22.02), number of grain spike-1 (68.21), seed index (48.80 g) and grain yield (4320 kg ha-1). In varieties, Benazir showed its superiority over its companion variety with 82.91 cm plant height, 224.17 tillers m-2 , 10.52 cm spike length, 18.21 spikelets spike-1 , 53.00 grains spike-1 , 45.29 g seed index and 3649.50 kg ha-1 grain yield. The commercial variety TJ-83 ranked 2 nd with 78.33 cm plant height, 207.75 tillers m-2 , 11.42 cm spike length, 19.82 spikelets spike-1 , 57.31 grains spike-1 , 40.98 g seed index and 3143.20 kg ha-1 grain yield. It was observed that treatment interaction N @150 kg × variety Benazir proved to be effective treatment and variety combination for achieving higher wheat yields; while, variety Benazir showed its genetic superiority yielding higher than its companion variety TJ-83.

A field experiment was conducted during the period 2014 and 2015 at the farm of Rice Research and Training Center, Sakha, kafr el-sheikh, Egypt for evaluation the performance of promising lines in rice to agronomic and genetic performance under Egyptian conditions. Results revealed that the Giza 179 produced the highest grain yield (5.44 kg/5m2) followed by the promising line GZ9461-4-2-3-1 (5.26 kg/5m2) and the commercial variety Giza 178 (5.07 kg/5m2). Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among genotypes for all traits. The high genotypic coefficient of variability (gcv) and phenotypic coefficient of variability (pcv) recorded for number of filled grains/panicle indicate the existence of wide spectrum of variability for this trait and offer greater opportunities for desired trait through phenotypic selection. The phenotypic variance was higher than the corresponding genotypic variance for traits. Estimation of heritability ranged from 49.16% to 99.52% for number of panicle/plant and duration traits, respectively. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for growing period and plant height and indicate the lesser influence of environment in expression of these traits and prevalence of additive gene action in their inheritance hence, amenable of simple selection. The promising rice lines GZ9461-4-2-3-1 and GZ10147-1-2-1-1 performed better as compared with the commercial variety. Selection of these traits would be more effective for yield improvement in rice and these promising lines would be more valuable materials for breeders engaged in the development of high yielding cultivars.

A field experiment was conducted at the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) farm
Mymensingh, Bangladesh during the irrigated ecosystem in December, 2009 to May 2010, with a view to study
the performance of aromatic fine rice under different date of transplanting. The experiment was carried out with
four aromatic fine rice (V1= Chinisagar, V2= Chiniatab, V3= Basmati, V4=Awnless Minicat) and three different
date of transplanting (D1=20 January, D2=5 February, D3=20 February). The experiment was laid out in splitplot
design with three replications assigning four varieties in the main plot and the three different transplanting
dates in the sub plot. Aromatic fine rice and dates of transplanting individually showed significant effect on the
agronomic parameters. Among the aromatic fine rice Awnless Minicat gave the highest yield (3.10 t ha-1
) but
that was at per with those of Basmati (1.77 t ha-1
). Transplantation on 20 January gave the highest grain yield
(2.41 t ha-1 ) which was at per with the transplantation on 5 February (1.99 t ha-1 ).The result revealed that 20 January and 5 February produced highest grain yield by all the variety. In later date of transplanting 20 February produced lower grain yield.

different soil and environmental conditions and N-use efficiency of different genotypes and to support wheat
breeding program in selecting the genotype with relatively higher yield potential. The experiment was conducted
in split plot design with three replications to evaluate the two soil management practices: (i) Recommended
fertilizer (N100P30K50S20) with all the production package of Wheat Research Center (WRC) (timely sowing, one
weeding, 3 irrigations) (ii) Treatment (i) plus soil treatment (application of granular fungicide in moist soil before
seeding) with plant protection (foliar application of tilt at anthesis and grain filling). One additional irrigation
(schedules: 17-21, 35-40, 55-60, 75-80 DAS) in the main plot and eight varieties/lines, varities: i) Shatabdi ii)
Prodip iii) Bijoy iv) BARI Gom-25 v) BARI Gom-26, lines: vi) BAW 1051 vii) BAW 1135 and viii) BAW 1141 in subplot were adopted. The results conclude that best management practice with Prodip, Bijoy and BAW 1141 are best performance among the genotypes/varieties and will give a new concept on identification of the strategy for the improvement of wheat cultivation and yield.

The same treatment proved its superiority in increasing all yield attributing factors along with grain yield of wheat indicating the most effective organic treatment for wheat under North Konkan Coastal Zone of Maharashtra.
Abstract— The study was carried out through on farm testing during kharif seasons of 2012 and 2013 under mid central table land zone of Odisha with an objective to evaluate the performances of short duration paddy Sahabhagi dhan as compared to the farmer’s practice (Khandagiri). The late matured (98.3 days) Sahabhagi dhan recorded higher germination(48.4 m-2), plant height(87.5 cm), effective tillers plant-1(13.2), Length of panicle(22.6 cm), filled grains panicle-1(125.3) with spikelet fertility(93.65 %) and 1000 grain weight(22.3 g) than khandagiri. The same also produced grain yield 35.5 q ha-1 which is 28.6 % higher yield than Khandagiri with harvest index ( 47.9) and water productivity(3.17 kg mm-1). The variety gave higher gross return Rs. 50365 ha-1 with a benefit- cost ratio 1.38 and additional net return Rs.6059 ha-1 as compared to farmers practice and thus the existing variety Khandagiri can be replaced by Sahabhagi dhan for higher productivity and income.

Farm experiment was conducted in summer of 2007 at the bank of the upper Zab river in Deraluk sub-district (43º.64'.48'' E) and (37º.85'.31'' N), Duhok province, Iraq. Ten varieties of maize were used to study the impact of K fertilization on growth, forage and grain yield of different maize genotypes and to make comparison among the given genotypes. Generally, there is no significant response of the genotypes to K fertilization. There was differentiation between the genotypes in most studied parameters, although the response was not significant, that’s mean existence of variation in efficiency of K uptake and utilization among the genotypes.

Types of plant cultivars and seasons often affect production and productivity of fodder biomass and nutritional quality to animals. Selection of suitable cultivars and better understanding of year round biomass production are indispensable for improving quality feed supply to animals. Black Seed Moringa (BSM-L) and White Seed Moringa (WSM), the two local cultivars and Black Seed Moringa (BSM-T) cultivar of Thailand origin of Moringa oleifera were cultivated in the fodder research field of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) during the period of 19 August 2014 to 23 December 2015. An agronomical trial was conducted to determine the biomass yield of the three cultivars in different seasons of a year under common agronomical practices. The effect of the cultivars on the daily relative growth rate (RGR), chemical composition and in-sacco dry matter (DM) degradability were also evaluated. The cultivar response to biomass production performances, chemical composition and nutritional values were analyzed in an ANOVA of a Randomized Block Design (RBD), while the differences in the rate and extent of the DM degradability in-sacco determined using three rumen cannulated bulls were analyzed in an ANOVA of 3x3 Latin Square Design. The annual biomass yield of BSM-L tops (114.5 t/ha fresh; 22.7 t/ha DM) was significantly higher than that of WSM (29.0 t/ha fresh; 5.80 t/ha DM) or BSM-T (83.5 t/ha fresh; 16.0 t/ha DM). No significant difference in chemical composition (224.9, 222.4 & 223.8 g.kg-1 DM of crude protein (CP), respectively, and 450.9, 455.3 & 435.4 g.kg-1 DM of neutral detergent fiber, respectively) or nutritional value (47.4, 46.7 & 45.3% of potential, and 62.8, 64.2 and 63.6% of effective degradability of dry matter) was found for the cultivars. BSM-L had a significantly higher survivability (97.2%), prune number per plant (3.50) and RGR (15.6 mg DM/day) than WSM (25.0%, 2.30 & 4.20 mg DM/day) or BSM-T (55.6%, 3.10 & 10.8 mg DM/day) respectively. The hot and dry, and hot and humid climate having a Heat Index (HI) range of 25o to 35o F and monthly total rainfall of 130 mm to 332 mm were suitable for cultivation of all the Moringa cultivars. It was concluded that considering biomass production and its quality in terms of chemical composition and nutritional values, Black Seed Moringa (Moringa oleifera) may be cultivated as a plant fodder crop for the production of feed for ruminant animals.

The present research study evaluate and identify the most suitable and high yielding genotypes of Lens culinaris for the salt marsh habitat of Swat in moist temperate sort of agro climatic environment of Pakistan. A total of fourteen genotypes were cultivated and analyzed through Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). These genotypes were AZRC-4, NL-2, NL4, NL-5, NL-6, NARC-11-1, NARC-11-2, NARC-11-3, NARC-11-4, 09503, 09505, 09506, P.Masoor-09 and Markaz-09. Different parameters i.e., germination rate, flowering, physiological maturity, plant height, biological grain yield, seed weight, pods formation and its height, pods per plants and protein content were focused specially throughout the study. Preliminary the Lentil genotypes have significant variability in all the major morpho-agronomic traits. The days to germination, 50% flowering and 100 seed weight ranged from 7 to 9, 110 to 116 days, and from 5.4 to 7.3 gm respectively. Biological yield and grain yield ranged from 5333 to 9777 kg ha−1 and 1933 to 3655 kg ha−1 respectively. Whereas, protein contents ranged from 23.21% to 28.45%. It was concluded that the genotype AZRC-4 is better varity in terms of grain yield plus in 100 seed weight and moreover, 09506 genotype was significant under salt marsh habitat in early maturing for the Swat Valley, Pakistan.

Oat (Avena sativa L.) is a staple worldwide in both human and animal nutrition. It is mainly grown for livestock, depending on its grain and forage yield in Turkey. This study was based on defining correlation coefficients of some oat genotypes (nine lines and three cultivars) in Konya, Turkey, among fodder and grain yields, and their components. The experimental design of this study was a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The correlations were analyzed after harvesting at milk to dough period. The findings illustrated that there was a significant positive correlation between green fodder yield and leaf weights in ten stems, and grain yield and the number of panicles stems per square meter. The highest negative correlations was found between green fodder yield and the number of panicles stems per square meter, and grain yield and 50% flowering periods in addition to green fodder yield. This research suggests that the number of panicles stems per square meter and dry fodder yield would be selection criteria for grain yield. The number of leaves per stem, the number of nodes, and plant height would also be considered for green fodder yield by oat breeders in their program in Anatolia.

— A field study was carried out to at Agriculture Research Institute, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, to investigate the effect of various nitrogen levels on growth and yield contributing traits of two wheat varieties. Wheat varieties Benazir and TJ-83 were evaluated against four nitrogen levels (0, 90, 120 and 150 kg ha-1).The results revealed that the effect of nitrogen levels as well as varieties differed significantly for all the growth and yield contributing traits and N @ 150 kg ha-1 resulted in maximum values for plant height (87.66 cm), number of tillers m-2 (265.17), spike length (13.05 cm), number of spikelets spike-1 (22.02), number of grain spike-1 (68.21), seed index (48.80 g) and grain yield (4320 kg ha-1). In varieties, Benazir showed its superiority over its companion variety with 82.91 cm plant height, 224.17 tillers m-2 , 10.52 cm spike length, 18.21 spikelets spike-1 , 53.00 grains spike-1 , 45.29 g seed index and 3649.50 kg ha-1 grain yield. The commercial variety TJ-83 ranked 2 nd with 78.33 cm plant height, 207.75 tillers m-2 , 11.42 cm spike length, 19.82 spikelets spike-1 , 57.31 grains spike-1 , 40.98 g seed index and 3143.20 kg ha-1 grain yield. It was observed that treatment interaction N @150 kg × variety Benazir proved to be effective treatment and variety combination for achieving higher wheat yields; while, variety Benazir showed its genetic superiority yielding higher than its companion variety TJ-83.

A field experiment was conducted during the period 2014 and 2015 at the farm of Rice Research and Training Center, Sakha, kafr el-sheikh, Egypt for evaluation the performance of promising lines in rice to agronomic and genetic performance under Egyptian conditions. Results revealed that the Giza 179 produced the highest grain yield (5.44 kg/5m2) followed by the promising line GZ9461-4-2-3-1 (5.26 kg/5m2) and the commercial variety Giza 178 (5.07 kg/5m2). Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among genotypes for all traits. The high genotypic coefficient of variability (gcv) and phenotypic coefficient of variability (pcv) recorded for number of filled grains/panicle indicate the existence of wide spectrum of variability for this trait and offer greater opportunities for desired trait through phenotypic selection. The phenotypic variance was higher than the corresponding genotypic variance for traits. Estimation of heritability ranged from 49.16% to 99.52% for number of panicle/plant and duration traits, respectively. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for growing period and plant height and indicate the lesser influence of environment in expression of these traits and prevalence of additive gene action in their inheritance hence, amenable of simple selection. The promising rice lines GZ9461-4-2-3-1 and GZ10147-1-2-1-1 performed better as compared with the commercial variety. Selection of these traits would be more effective for yield improvement in rice and these promising lines would be more valuable materials for breeders engaged in the development of high yielding cultivars.

Mymensingh, Bangladesh during the irrigated ecosystem in December, 2009 to May 2010, with a view to study
the performance of aromatic fine rice under different date of transplanting. The experiment was carried out with
four aromatic fine rice (V1= Chinisagar, V2= Chiniatab, V3= Basmati, V4=Awnless Minicat) and three different
date of transplanting (D1=20 January, D2=5 February, D3=20 February). The experiment was laid out in splitplot
design with three replications assigning four varieties in the main plot and the three different transplanting
dates in the sub plot. Aromatic fine rice and dates of transplanting individually showed significant effect on the
agronomic parameters. Among the aromatic fine rice Awnless Minicat gave the highest yield (3.10 t ha-1
) but
that was at per with those of Basmati (1.77 t ha-1
). Transplantation on 20 January gave the highest grain yield
(2.41 t ha-1 ) which was at per with the transplantation on 5 February (1.99 t ha-1 ).The result revealed that 20 January and 5 February produced highest grain yield by all the variety. In later date of transplanting 20 February produced lower grain yield.

breeding program in selecting the genotype with relatively higher yield potential. The experiment was conducted
in split plot design with three replications to evaluate the two soil management practices: (i) Recommended
fertilizer (N100P30K50S20) with all the production package of Wheat Research Center (WRC) (timely sowing, one
weeding, 3 irrigations) (ii) Treatment (i) plus soil treatment (application of granular fungicide in moist soil before
seeding) with plant protection (foliar application of tilt at anthesis and grain filling). One additional irrigation
(schedules: 17-21, 35-40, 55-60, 75-80 DAS) in the main plot and eight varieties/lines, varities: i) Shatabdi ii)
Prodip iii) Bijoy iv) BARI Gom-25 v) BARI Gom-26, lines: vi) BAW 1051 vii) BAW 1135 and viii) BAW 1141 in subplot were adopted. The results conclude that best management practice with Prodip, Bijoy and BAW 1141 are best performance among the genotypes/varieties and will give a new concept on identification of the strategy for the improvement of wheat cultivation and yield.

The same treatment proved its superiority in increasing all yield attributing factors along with grain yield of wheat indicating the most effective organic treatment for wheat under North Konkan Coastal Zone of Maharashtra.
Abstract— The study was carried out through on farm testing during kharif seasons of 2012 and 2013 under mid central table land zone of Odisha with an objective to evaluate the performances of short duration paddy Sahabhagi dhan as compared to the farmer’s practice (Khandagiri). The late matured (98.3 days) Sahabhagi dhan recorded higher germination(48.4 m-2), plant height(87.5 cm), effective tillers plant-1(13.2), Length of panicle(22.6 cm), filled grains panicle-1(125.3) with spikelet fertility(93.65 %) and 1000 grain weight(22.3 g) than khandagiri. The same also produced grain yield 35.5 q ha-1 which is 28.6 % higher yield than Khandagiri with harvest index ( 47.9) and water productivity(3.17 kg mm-1). The variety gave higher gross return Rs. 50365 ha-1 with a benefit- cost ratio 1.38 and additional net return Rs.6059 ha-1 as compared to farmers practice and thus the existing variety Khandagiri can be replaced by Sahabhagi dhan for higher productivity and income.

Farm experiment was conducted in summer of 2007 at the bank of the upper Zab river in Deraluk sub-district (43º.64'.48'' E) and (37º.85'.31'' N), Duhok province, Iraq. Ten varieties of maize were used to study the impact of K fertilization on growth, forage and grain yield of different maize genotypes and to make comparison among the given genotypes. Generally, there is no significant response of the genotypes to K fertilization. There was differentiation between the genotypes in most studied parameters, although the response was not significant, that’s mean existence of variation in efficiency of K uptake and utilization among the genotypes.

Types of plant cultivars and seasons often affect production and productivity of fodder biomass and nutritional quality to animals. Selection of suitable cultivars and better understanding of year round biomass production are indispensable for improving quality feed supply to animals. Black Seed Moringa (BSM-L) and White Seed Moringa (WSM), the two local cultivars and Black Seed Moringa (BSM-T) cultivar of Thailand origin of Moringa oleifera were cultivated in the fodder research field of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) during the period of 19 August 2014 to 23 December 2015. An agronomical trial was conducted to determine the biomass yield of the three cultivars in different seasons of a year under common agronomical practices. The effect of the cultivars on the daily relative growth rate (RGR), chemical composition and in-sacco dry matter (DM) degradability were also evaluated. The cultivar response to biomass production performances, chemical composition and nutritional values were analyzed in an ANOVA of a Randomized Block Design (RBD), while the differences in the rate and extent of the DM degradability in-sacco determined using three rumen cannulated bulls were analyzed in an ANOVA of 3x3 Latin Square Design. The annual biomass yield of BSM-L tops (114.5 t/ha fresh; 22.7 t/ha DM) was significantly higher than that of WSM (29.0 t/ha fresh; 5.80 t/ha DM) or BSM-T (83.5 t/ha fresh; 16.0 t/ha DM). No significant difference in chemical composition (224.9, 222.4 & 223.8 g.kg-1 DM of crude protein (CP), respectively, and 450.9, 455.3 & 435.4 g.kg-1 DM of neutral detergent fiber, respectively) or nutritional value (47.4, 46.7 & 45.3% of potential, and 62.8, 64.2 and 63.6% of effective degradability of dry matter) was found for the cultivars. BSM-L had a significantly higher survivability (97.2%), prune number per plant (3.50) and RGR (15.6 mg DM/day) than WSM (25.0%, 2.30 & 4.20 mg DM/day) or BSM-T (55.6%, 3.10 & 10.8 mg DM/day) respectively. The hot and dry, and hot and humid climate having a Heat Index (HI) range of 25o to 35o F and monthly total rainfall of 130 mm to 332 mm were suitable for cultivation of all the Moringa cultivars. It was concluded that considering biomass production and its quality in terms of chemical composition and nutritional values, Black Seed Moringa (Moringa oleifera) may be cultivated as a plant fodder crop for the production of feed for ruminant animals.

Performance Evaluation of Cabbage (Brassica oleracea Capitata) Cultivars in M...AI Publications
Cabbage (Brassica Oleracea Capitata) is being one of the most popular and demanded vegetables and in Nepal. Five cultivars; Wonder ball, Green voyager, Green challenger, Omphalus and Green coronet were transplanted in first week of October in 2016 and 2017 consequently years in mid-hills (Kathmandu valley, 1300 masl) and grown during winter season with 45X45 cm spacing. Crops were fertilized with 200:120:100 N.P.K Kg/ha and 15 ton FYM/ha. One spray insecticide and fungicide were sprayed in the early season for crop establishment. The main objective of this experiment was to find out suitable high yielding and insect pest and disease field tolerant hybrid cabbage cultivars for commercial growing in mid-hills of Nepal. Crops were evaluated with its vegetative, insect pest and disease, yield and farmers and consumers response in two consecutive years. Result showed that among the tested cultivars Wonder ball was found highly uniform, vigorous, less attack by insect pest and disease, significantly higher yield (71.7 t/ha), higher average head weight (1622 g), early harvestable (95 days), freshness (4.0) and market preference (4.0) as compared to check Green coronet widely grown cultivar Green coronet which has only yield (57.91 t/ha), average head weight (1358 g), days to harvest (114 days), freshness (3.0) and market preference (3.0) respectively. It was followed by Green challenger which had yield (57.77), average head weight (1387), earlier harvestable (95 days), freshness (4.0) and market preference (4.0). Hence, Wonder ball and Green challenger have been selected and recommended for varietal registration and commercial cultivation in mid-hills of Nepal.
The present study was carried on Abelmoschus esculentus (A. esculentus) by using the vermicompost. The decoction tea powder is wasted wet garbage and discarded on the dumping ground. It generally creates environmental pollution. This wet garbage can used as a good source of nutrients to the vegetable crop plants. The research is carried out by preparing vermicompost using 75% decoction tea powder and 25% mixture of black soil, cow dung, leaf litter and little vermicompost. The compost prepared by using decoction tea powder has increased concentration of necessary nutrients such as pH, minerals, organic carbon (O.C.), total phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and sodium required for vegetable crop plants for its development. In present investigation by applying this compost, Electrical conductivity was decreased by 9.51%, O.C. 89.30%, total phosphorus 26.09%, potassium 1.0%, Mg and Na by 43.17% shows a significant increase in absorption. It is also observed that germination period decreases whereas height of stem, leaf area, flowering and fruits were developed earlier than control soil. Weeds are unwanted plant species growing in ordinary environment. In nature there are a total of 8000 weed species out of which 250 are important for agriculture world. The present study was carried out on weed species composition and distribution pattern with special reference to edaphic factor and farming practices in maize crop of District Mardan during the months of August and September, 2014. Quadrates methods were used to assess weed species distribution in relation to edaphic factor and farming practices. Phytosociological attributes such as frequency, relative frequency, density, relative density and Importance Values were measured by placing 9 quadrates (1 × 1 m2) randomly in each field. Initial results showed that the study area has 29 diverse weed species belonging to 27 genera and 15 families distributed in 585 quadrats. Presence and absence data sheet of 29 weed species and 65 fields were analyzed through PC-ORD version 5. Cluster and Two Way Cluster Analyses initiated four different weed communities with significant indicator species and with respect to underlying environmental variables using data attribute plots. Canonical Correspondence Analyses (CCA) of CANOCO software version 4.5 was used to assess the environmental gradients of weed species. It is concluded that among all the edaphic factors the strongest variables were higher concentration of potassium, organic matter and sandy nature of soil. CCA plots of both weed species and sampled fields based on questionnaire data concluded the farming practices such as application of fertilizers, irrigation and chemical spray were the main factors in determination of weed communities.

Arugula is a nutritionally rich vegetable. Considered a functional food, it can be used to treat diseases and improve clinical conditions. This work was conducted at the Rafael Fernandes Experimental Farm, in the Alagoinha district, rural area of Mossoró-RN, from December 2016 to February 2017, with the objective of evaluating the agronomic viability of arugula, functional vegetable under the residual effect of species of the semi-arid region. The experimental design was the complete randomized blocks with treatments arranged in a 5 x 3 factorial scheme, with three replications. The first factor was constituted by four green fertilizer (0.0, 0.8, 1.6, 2.4, 3.2kg m-2 dry basis) and second factor by the types of green fertilizers (Merremia aegyptia, Calotropis procera and Senna uniflora). Initially radish was planted in plots of 1.4 x 1.4m. After the crop was withdrawn, the arugula cultivated Cultivada was planted. The evaluated characteristics were: height and number of leaves per plant, yield; number of sauces and dry matter mass of the aerial part. The best agronomic performance of the arugula was observed in the amount of 2.4kg m-2, with yield of 902.3g m-2 and 30 arugula sauces. Among the types of fertilizers, Merremia aegyptia presented statistical superiority in relation to Calotropis procera and Senna uniflora for yield and number of sauces. The incentive for the cultivation of arugula is important because its benefits are directly related to the farmers who produce and also commercialize, and the consumers who acquire this vegetable.

Abstract— Underarid and semi-arid ecosystems where drought, soil salinity and low soil fertility considerably limit crop production. Under such stressful growing conditions, an appropriate management of mycorrhizae may have a determinant impact on plant production, on the improvement of soil quality and the diversification of cultivated crops. In this context, the diversity of the arbuscularmycorrhizae flora in semi-arid agricultural soils of OuledGhanem and SidiBennour sites of the Doukkala region, Morocco was evaluated and the impact of soil physico-chemical factors on their root-colonization potential studied. The two selected studied sites are respectively characterised by neutral to alkaline substrates, low level of organic matter but differed in their respective texture, sandy soil and muddy soil and their low to medium available P contents. The comparative analysis of the arbuscular mycorrhizal flora reveals a certain amount of shared species and is characterized in sandy soils by a good proportion of Diversisporales: Scutellosporacalospora, Acaulosporacavernata, Entrophosporainfrequens, Gigaspora margarita when the muddy soils are inhabited with a majority of Glomerales (Glomus.sp). Correlation between physico-chemical and biological soil data enlighted the negative impact of alkalinity and available phosphorus on the soil root colonization potential. The comparative data analyses bring in a critical look at the possible interaction between fungal diversity, mycotrophic plant and root colonization.
An Agronomic field study was conducted at University of Limpopo Experimental farm, Syferkuil, over two summer growing seasons to determine the optimum phosphorus (P) rate and also assess the productivity of pigeonpea under intercrop with maize. Five P rates (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 kg P ha-1) were evaluated under sole and intercropped pigeonpea. Treatments were laid out in a randomized complete block design with four replicates. Results revealed that variable P fertilizer rates exerted significant effect on pigeonpea grain yield in both seasons. Highest grain yields of 922 and 1141.7 kg ha-1 under sole and intercrop plots, respectively, were achieved at 45 kg P ha-1 during first and second seasons, respectively. However, the predicted optimum grain yield of 734 and 1034 kg ha-1 based on the response model was achieved at 52.67 kg P ha-1 and 42.84 kg P ha-1, in the respective seasons. Intercropping achieved a significantly higher pigeonpea grain yield (+37%) during second year than sole cropping following P addition; with over 21% mean grain yield advantage across the two planting seasons. Hence, depending on the inherent soil-P level, application of 42-53 kg P ha-1 under pigeonpea/maize intercrop represents the range at which P is optimum for maximum pigeonpea grain yield and better returns for farmers.

The interaction of genotype x environment on yield and 1000 grain weight and test
weight at four KG cultivars of barley (Karan-19, Karan-201, Karan-4 and Karan-521) was
researched in this paper. The experiment was established on the experimental field of the
Malakand Der Research Farm during two growing seasons. The highest grains yield per area
unit had, on an average, Karan-4 cultivar (4.935 t/ha). Average grains yield observed in the
two-year period was the highest at Karan-4 cultivar, while the lowest yield was obtained by
Karan-201 cultivar (3.882 t/ha). During the both years of investigation the highest average
value of test weight achieved the Karan-19 cultivar (72.14 kg/hl and 73.22 kg/hl). The largest
two-year average value of test weight was found in the cultivar Karan-19 (72.68 kg/hl), and
lowest in cultivar Karan-521 (65.69 kg/hl). During the both years of investigation the highest
average value of 1000 grain weight achieved the Karan-4 cultivar (49.62 g and 51.86 g). The
highest average 1000 grain weight was determined for cultivar Karan-4 (50.74 g). During
2018/2019, statistically significantly higher grain yield per area unit as well as 1000 grain
weight was achieved, compared with 2016/2017. Investigations on genotype and environment
interaction present the basis for further refinement and barley zoning.

INTRODUCTION
Agronomic cultivar value depends not only on its genetic potential for yield, but also on its ability
to achieve genetic potential under different conditions of production. Barley cultivars that were
in production until the end of the eighties were characterized by the lower yields, good
technological quality and higher stem sensitive on lodging. Due to lower resistance on lodging,
that cultivars were grown at modest soils and therefore they had lower yields. New varieties are
characterized by good technological quality, better resistance on lodging and diseases, shorter
stem and more efficient assimilates usage.
Yield is largely dependent on the genetic potential, which could be defined as yield of variety
which was grown in conditions on which it had been adapted, with adequately amounts of water
and nutrients and efficient control of pests, diseases, weeds and other stresses. Grain yield is a
value, which is not only genetically determined but also dependent to a high degree on the growing
conditions. Yields considerably vary primarily because of agro-Ecological conditions during the
growing season.
Experimental research needs to be carried out over multiple environment trials in order to identify
and analyze the major factors that are responsible for genotype adaptation and final selection.
Malting barley is expected to have 1000 grain weight of 40 and 46 g and test weight of 68 to 75
kg/hl.
Barley is in the usage as an important component of beer and malt production, important and
quality component in animal feeding, partially in human nutrition as well as a component in
4. processing industry. As a top-quality forage crop plant, barley is used as fodder unit in meals
balancing in animal feed.
The aim of this study was determination of the cultivars and ecological environmental factors
influence on differences in stability and adaptability of cultivars regard the grain yield, 1000
grains weight and test weight of tested BARLEY cultivars, as well as specificity cultivars
exploring regard growing seasons conditions.
MATERIAL AND METHODS Experimental design
During the 2016/2017and 2018/2019 growing seasons, four cultivars of BARLEY (Karan-4,
Karan-19, Karan-201 and Karan-521(husk less), cultivated at the Center for Small Grains in
Malakand Der Research Farm (The University Of Agriculture Peshawar, Pakistan) were
investigated.
Experiments have been conducted in randomized block systems, with a plot size of 10 m2
(2 m x
5 m) in two replicates. The usual techniques for barley production were applied, and it was done
in the optimum sowing time in late October. 400 kg/ha of fertilizer NPK 15:15:15 was added in
the fall on the investigated plots, while during the spring fertilization, 300 kg/ha (KAN) was
supplemented. The following properties were analyzed: grain yield (t/ha), test weight (kg/hl) and
1000 grain weight (g).
Meteorological conditions
Malakand Der Research Farm area is characterized by a moderate continental climate, which
general feature is uneven distribution of rainfall by months.
Data in Graph 1 and 2 for the investigated period (2016-2017) clearly indicate that the years in
which the research were conducted differed from the typical multi-year average for Malakand Der
Research Farm region, regarding the meteorological conditions.

The average air temperature in 2016/2017 was higher by 1.01 C and 2016/2017 was higher by
0.79 C. The sum of rainfall precipitation in 2018/19 was higher by 576.2 mm, where the sum of
rainfall in 2016/2017 was 75.1 mm lower than the average of many years and with a very uneven
distribution of precipitation per months. Spring months April and May in 2016/2017 were surplus
of precipitation, what affected unfavorable on the crops. During the April in 2016/2017 it was
142.2 mm of rainfall, what was 90.7 mm more compared with the perennial average. During the
month of June in 2018/2019 it was 196.7 mm of rainfall, what was 117.4 mm more compared
with the perennial average. Regard the high importance of sufficient rainfall amounts during the
spring months, particularly May for small grains production, the distribution and amount of
rainfall over the growing season 2017/2018 were considerably more favorable, what resulted with
increment of yields during that year, graph. 1 and 2. Apart from the rainfall deficiency during the
spring months and the non-uniform distribution of rainfall across months, an increasing in average
air temperatures was also observed
Based on the fact that sufficient amounts of rainfall in these months are very important for the
successful production of cereal crops it can be concluded that the 2016/2017 year in which the
researches were conducted were not favorable for the barley growing.
Soil and weather conditions
Before the commencement of the experiment soil samples were taken from the sample surface
and the chemical analysis of soil was performed. On the basis of obtained results, it was revealed
that the soil belongs to the smonitza type, with relatively high clay content, and unfavorable
physical properties. The humus content in the surface layer of soil was low (2.38-2.64%), and a
substitution and total hydrolytic acidity were quite high (pH H2O=5.99, KCl=4.56). The soil was
medium provided with total nitrogen (0,11-0,13% N) and easily accessible potassium (10-14
mg/100 g soil K2O), while the available phosphorus content was low (under 10 mg/100 g of soil
P2O5).
Statistical Analysis
Based on achieved research results the usual variational statistical indicators were calculated:
average values, error of the mean (arithmetic) and standard deviation.
6. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Average values of yield (t/ha), test weight (kg/hl) and 1000 grain weight (g) at investigated
Kragujevac’s BARLEY cultivars grown at the Center for Small Grains in Malakand Der Research
Farm during two growing seasons, 2016/2017 and 2018/2019, are presented in the Tab. 1.

During the first year of investigations, cultivar Karan-4 achieved the highest grains yield
(3.930 t/ha), while the lowest yield was at Karan-201 cultivar (2.642 t/ha). During the second
year of investigations (2017/2018), the yield of Karan-4 cultivar was the highest with
5.940 t/ha, while the slightly lower yield was realized by Karan-19 and Karan-521 cultivars
(5.666 t/ha and 5.554 t/ha). Average grains yield observed in the two-year period was the highest
at Karan-4 variety (4.935 t/ha), while the lowest yield was obtained by Karan-201 cultivar (3.882
t/ha).
Achieved statistically significantly higher yields in 2017/2018 were, primarily, the
result of heavy rainfalls and their good distribution as well as favorable air temperatures during
the vegetation period (Graph 1 and 2). in his research states that the air temperatures and the
rainfall amount and distribution during the barley growing season have the greatest impact on
high yields and grain quality.
The barley cultivar Karan-19 has achieved the highest test weight in both years of
investigation compared to other tested barley cultivars (72.14 kg/hl and
73.22 kg/hl). The average two-year value of test weight at Karan-19 cultivar was 72.68 kg/hl,
Karan-4 71.21 kg/hl, Karan-201 70.66 kg/hl, while the lowest average was at Karan-521
cultivar (65.68 kg/hl), Table 1.

Grain of investigated barley cultivars was characterized by good physical characteristics;
especially regard the test weight and 1000 grain weight. Realized average values of these
characteristics in the study were slightly higher than the values obtained by Jelić et al. (2007)
and Đekić et al., (2011).
Table 2 shows the impact of year, cultivar and interaction of year x cultivar on yield, test
weight and 1000-grain weight. The ANOVA indicated very highly significant effects of the
year and grain yield (Fexp= 219.517***
) and significant effects of the 1000 grain weight
(Fexp=5.062*
). Our results are consistent with the results Madić et al. (2009), where the
authors state that the growing conditions in the observed years had a significant impact on
yield. Very highly significant differences in test weight and 1000-grain weight at investigated
barley were found in relation with the cultivar. The interaction of 1000-grain weight and year
x cultivar very highly significant differences at investigated barley cultivars.

8. CONCLUSIONS
Based on the gain results during two-year investigation on four BARLEY cultivars, it
can be concluded that the highest yield achieved the cultivar Karan-4 (4.935 t/ha). Karan-19
and Karan-201 cultivars have achieved satisfactory results, while the poorest results were
achieved by the Karan-521 cultivar. During 2015/2016, statistically significantly higher grain
yield per area unit as well as 1000 grain weight was achieved, compared with 2014/2015. Very
highly significant differences in 1000 grain weight at investigated barley cultivars were found
relative to the cultivar and very significant differences at grain yield relative to environmental
factors. Very highly significant influence of the interaction of 1000-grain weight and year x
cultivar differences at investigated barley cultivars.
