INTRODUCTION
 The chickpea (Cicer arietinum) is a legume of the family Fabaceae,
sub-family Faboideae.
 Its different types are variously known as gram, or Bengal
gram, garbanzo or garbanzo bean, as well as the Egyptian pea
 Chick pea contains 21% protein, 2.2% fat, 62% carbohydrates.
 It also contain calcium of about 190 mg/100g; Iron 90.5 mg/100g;
Phosphorus 280 mg/100g.
 Among the pulses, chick pea has relatively lower protein content
but of higher biological value and protein digestibility.
 Germinated seeds can cure scurvy.
 An acid liquid from the granular hairs of leaves and pods contains two acids.
They are i) Malic Acid (90-96%)
ii) Oxalic Acid (4-10%)
Which are used in the preparation of drugs, and are prescribed for the intestinal
dis-orders and blood purification.
 Soaked seed and husk are fed to cattle.
 On the basis of the cultivated area, chick pea is the 19th most crop grown in the
world in which 77% of total area and production in world is from India.
 The three states Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh accounts for 84% of
Area, 86% production in the country.
 National average productivity is 810 kg/ha where as higher average productivity
is 1.8 t/ha in Egypt.

Biofertilizers….
 Biofertilizers most commonly referred as the fertilizer that contains living
soil micro-organisms to increase the availability and uptake of mineral
nutrients for plants.
 When biofertilizers are applied as seed or soil inoculants, they multiply
and participate in nutrient cycling and benefit crop productivity
 Biofertilizers differ from chemical and organic fertilizers in the sense that
they do not directly supply any nutrients to crops and are cultures of
special bacteria and fungi, relatively simple and having low installation
cost.
OBJECTIVES
 To evaluate the effect of inorganic and organic fertilizers
on growth, yield and quality of Chickpea.
 To study the effect of inorganic and organic fertilizers on
soil physical, chemical and biological properties
 To examine the economic feasibility of different
treatments on yield of Chickpea.

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS
 The data will be subjected to statistical analysis by adopting
appropriate analysis of variance as described by Gomez and
Gomez (1984). In order to establish interrelationship between
various components, coefficients of correlation and regression
equations will be computed as described by Panse and Sukhatme
(1985).

Synopsis on INM in Chickpea

  • 1. Title of Research Work “Integrated Nutrient Management In ChickPea” Presented By : Ashish Kumar Singh M.Sc. (Agri.) , Agronomy student College of Agriculture JAU, Junagadh. Major Guide: Dr. P. K. Chovatia, Associate Professor, Department of Agronomy, JAU, Junagadh. Minor Guide: Dr. L. C. Vekaria, Assistant Professor , Dept. of Agri. Chem & Soil science, JAU, Junagadh.
  • 2. INTRODUCTION  The chickpea (Cicer arietinum) is a legume of the family Fabaceae, sub-family Faboideae.  Its different types are variously known as gram, or Bengal gram, garbanzo or garbanzo bean, as well as the Egyptian pea  Chick pea contains 21% protein, 2.2% fat, 62% carbohydrates.  It also contain calcium of about 190 mg/100g; Iron 90.5 mg/100g; Phosphorus 280 mg/100g.  Among the pulses, chick pea has relatively lower protein content but of higher biological value and protein digestibility.  Germinated seeds can cure scurvy.
  • 3.  An acid liquid from the granular hairs of leaves and pods contains two acids. They are i) Malic Acid (90-96%) ii) Oxalic Acid (4-10%) Which are used in the preparation of drugs, and are prescribed for the intestinal dis-orders and blood purification.  Soaked seed and husk are fed to cattle.  On the basis of the cultivated area, chick pea is the 19th most crop grown in the world in which 77% of total area and production in world is from India.  The three states Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh accounts for 84% of Area, 86% production in the country.  National average productivity is 810 kg/ha where as higher average productivity is 1.8 t/ha in Egypt. • 4. Biofertilizers….  Biofertilizers most commonly referred as the fertilizer that contains living soil micro-organisms to increase the availability and uptake of mineral nutrients for plants.  When biofertilizers are applied as seed or soil inoculants, they multiply and participate in nutrient cycling and benefit crop productivity  Biofertilizers differ from chemical and organic fertilizers in the sense that they do not directly supply any nutrients to crops and are cultures of special bacteria and fungi, relatively simple and having low installation cost.
  • 5. OBJECTIVES  To evaluate the effect of inorganic and organic fertilizers on growth, yield and quality of Chickpea.  To study the effect of inorganic and organic fertilizers on soil physical, chemical and biological properties  To examine the economic feasibility of different treatments on yield of Chickpea.

  • 11. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS  The data will be subjected to statistical analysis by adopting appropriate analysis of variance as described by Gomez and Gomez (1984). In order to establish interrelationship between various components, coefficients of correlation and regression equations will be computed as described by Panse and Sukhatme (1985).
