2. Current Sources Of The State Of Indonesia
In Indonesia, petroleum is one of the main sources of the state revenues. It is also a very important
strategic commodity and often as political issue. The revenues from oil and gas have driven the
economic growth and contributed significantly for the development of Indonesia. In the world,
legislations which regulate oil and gas are varies from country to country. In spite of many variations,
in general, the upstream oil and gas activities, based on two systems, the production sharing contracts
and the licensing systems. Indonesia was the country that introduced the concept of production sharing
contracts in 1966 (Bindemann, 1999).
After the verdict of Indonesian Constitutional Court in 2012 on The Oil and Gas Law, some of the
articles were unconstitutional and not legally binding. As a result, the government and the parliament
want to revise the oil and gas law and led to the ideas of replacing the production sharing contract with
the licensing system. Nevertheless, before Indonesia adopts the new system, many aspects should be
considered in designing legislations. Some of the aspects are the concept of natural resources
ownership, revenues for the state, and attractiveness for the investors.
Mean while, as the owner of natural resources, the government has the rights to control and regulate
petroleum resources. The government would also have to balance its demand for maximizing the
revenues from oil and gas and adverse effect on investment climate. Thus, it should be

4. Hypertension ( Htn ) Is A Major Public Health Issue...
Hypertension (HTN) is a major public health issue affecting 70 million African American males in the
United States (CDC,2015) and predisposing them to cardiovascular diseases (Scranton, Goldstein,
Stecher, 2013). The WHO (2013) defines HTN as a systolic blood pressure of equal or greater than
140 mm/Hg or a diastolic blood pressure of equal or greater than 90 mm/ Hg. In addition, a large
portion of patient s diagnosed with HTN also have a diagnosis of erectile dysfunction (ED), both of
which when left untreated can have a negative impact on quality of life. ED has been defined by
Adebusoye et al., (2012), the lack of sufficient sexual intercourse due to inability of a penile erection
in male. Compounding the high incidence of HTN and ED among African American males, is the
problem of non adherence to prescribed anti hypertensive medications. Real or perceived ED
associated with the adverse side effects of anti hypertensive medications is a chief reason for non
adherence to anti hypertensive medications among males (Kakkavas et al., 2013). This research study
will use The Health Belief Model to investigate the correlation between African American males with
dual diagnoses of HTN and ED who are non adherent to anti hypertensive medications. More
specifically, this study will scrutinize the adverse side effects of anti hypertensive medications in
relation to complications of untreated HTN, one of which is ED. The results of this study could be

The typical episode of the critically acclaimed, indie darling, sitcom 30 Rock focuses on the lives of
the writers, producers, executives and love interests of those involved in the production of a fictional
sketch comedy television show called TGS with Tracy Jordan. 30 Rock is widely known as a show
that deals with race, gender and class issues from multiple, humorous perspectives. Yet watching
Season Five, Episode Twenty, a viewer could grow uncomfortable at the racial generalizations. The
episode is entitled Queen of Jordan and is intended to parody the Real Housewives franchise of reality
television. The episode was shot and aired as if it were a Bravo network reality show, entirely separate

The shows are aware of the excess of their characters. In following the consumerist lifestyles, it does
not validate or idolize them, but instead provokes populist scorn on these women and their failures

setting, is deeply intertwined with class through their use of the Bravo wink. Bravo winks when it
showcases the irony in a scene for the viewer. Bravo executive, Andy Cohen, explained the practice
as, Trying to let the audience in on the fun of the story. We wink at the audience when someone says, I

to have them violated so the audience can laugh at the housewives shortcomings as both socialites and
mothers. The Real Housewives franchise is already self aware enough to be a show about, rich women
to crass to be classy, too superficial to be nurturing and too self obsessed to be caring (Lee and
Moscowitz, p. 64). Because of this reflexive critique, 30 Rock s criticism is of race and the medium of
reality television is more poignant the violation of the expectation of class from the elite is already

individual to a, boy with the mindset of an adult that is spiritually dead and is unemotional. Elie shows
this in his memoir by rewriting what he saw, thought, or what he heard while in concentration camps,
this occurs, in the three sections of the memoir.
In the first section of the book, Eile begins the transformation from a sensitive and spiritual boy to the

summoned, but there was no faith left in him to respond. I believe this is this is the ultimate low in
Elie s religion, seeing that he could not even pray over his father, or respond to the summons. This
might be the low of his religion, the low of Elie s emotion is quite horrible. Elie sees himself for the
first time after being liberated, From the depths of the mirror, a corpse gazed back at me. The look in

X Linked Inheritence
The topic which is assogned to me is X linked inhertance that is a pattern of inheritance in which the
spread of traits differentiate according to the sex of the individual because the genes which are present
on the X chromosome have no counterparts on the Y chromosome. The inheritance pattern can be
recessive or dominant. The trait firm by a gene on the X chromosome is always expressed in
males.Because we know that males only d have one X chrmosome whichever the disease related to it
will express itself in the individual. Transmission from father to son does not occur. There are two
Kinds of X linked inheritance are X linked dominant inheritance and X linked recessive inheritance.
1 X Linked Recessive Inheritance
Now lets us we some breif explanation of X linked recessive inheritance. it is a mode of inheritance in
which a mutation in a gene on the X chromosome causes the phenotype to be articulated in males
(who are necessarily hemizygous for the gene mutation because they have only one X chromosome)
and in females who are homozygous for the gene mutation (i.e., they have a duplicate of the gene
mutation on both of their two X chromosomes).
X linked inheritance can be expressed as the means that the gene causing the trait or the disorder is
present on the X chromosome. Females have two X chromosomes while males have one X and one Y
chromosome. Carrier females who contain simply one replica of the mutation do not typically state the
phenotype though

Albin Brucaj Period 2

Nuclear energy, the energy released during nuclear fission or fusion, especially when used to generate
electricity. Nuclear energy has been one of the biggest controversies, not only in the United States but
also, around the world. The concept of what a civilization should be or consist of has changed
dramatically over time. When man needed food, he hunted, when he needed shelter, he built a home,
when he needed energy, ah, that is where he was stumped. Many have discovered different forms of
energy to help achieve the goals of men. In order to continue this trend of progress, we need to be able

At the moment, nuclear energy is the most effective form energy available to us and we must advance
and improve it to the best of our ability.
Nuclear energy has the potential to provide huge amounts of electricity and power to billions all over
the globe. At the moment, nuclear power currently generates 16% of the world s electricity, but by
2030 it will approach 30%(Richard Steiglitz). Many are unable to realize just how much our demand
for newer, better, and faster technology has risen and will rise over time. A high capacity baseload is
vital to a growing society. The development and advancement of electrical powered motor vehicles
plays quite a large role in energy consumption. We are forced to deliver more and more electrical
power each and every day. Unfortunately, we are simply unable to do so unless we possess a form of
energy large enough to satisfy our wants and needs(nuclear). The United States is investing hundreds
of billions of dollars to develop alternative energy sources, but these sources are decades away from
being gigawatt providers of electricity(Richard Steiglitz). Unless we plan on deterring our future in
energy for 10 to 20 years, I suggest we continue researching, experimenting, and improving nuclear
energy so that we are not left with nothing if all else fails. The social media boom over the last few
years have influenced a great demand for more power. Households use more appliances, computers,

Classical conditioning, operant conditioning, as well as observational learning don t only hold their

concepts/theories are able to leave an impact through the duration of an individual s development and

pivotal role through my initial fear then eventual confidence with public speaking.
Classical conditioning is the learning process that occurs when two stimuli are repeatedly paired . A

bell rings and is presented along with a bowl of food the dog will respond by salivating. Now, the

17. Gang Vs Traditional Gang
Defining gangs have been compared to packs, teams, and groups. Participants of gangs do not
necessarily commit violent acts or commence in illegal matters. The National Gang Center has come
to a consensus on defining gangs with the commonalities of three or more members between the ages
of 12 through 24, shared identity, recognized by others as a gang or crew, has levels of organization,
and usually involved in criminal activities (Shelden, Tracy, Brown, 2013). Some gangs are excluded
from this definition due to not proportionate with their usual activities. Overall, we can consider gangs
to be founded when members share similar characteristics and establish a symbol to represent their
livelihood. Pictures 1 through 3 I found in various locations in Chattanooga relatively close to
downtown area. These graffiti markings are found to belong to a graffiti crew that declares themselves
as DIB which is an acronym for doin it blazed composed of graffiti artists such as Renik, Bern, Astro,
and Spec (Reddit, 2013). This is not our traditional idea of a gang or gang members since they only
commit acts of vandalism. However, without keeping in mind our idea of a traditional gang, we see
this group has many of the aspects to be considered a gang. There are more than 3 members who have

18. Anxiety And Social Anxiety
Fear is a common emotion exhibited by people who stutter (PWS). The fear of negative evaluation is
commonly displayed by PWS (Fjola, 1246); when this fear is significantly excessive, the PWS may
meet the criteria for a clinical diagnosis of social anxiety (Brundage, Winters, Beilby, p. 499). Social
anxiety frequently causes PWS to isolate themselves from social interactions, and, when in situations,
to utilize safety behaviors to prevent stuttering and reduce anxiety. Safety behaviors consequently
maintain social anxiety in PWS rather than exacerbate the disorder (Lowe et al., 2017, pp. 1246 1247).
More is known regarding the development of social anxiety is adults who stutter (AWS) than the
information pertaining to children who stutter (CWS) and their fear of negative evaluation which
results in social anxiety (Iverach, Menzies, O Brian, Packman, Onslow, 2011, p. 228). The difference
in available information may be due to the thought that social anxiety is a short term effect in CWS
but a life long effect in AWS (Iverach, Jones, McLellan, Lyneham, Menzies, Onslow, Rapee, 2016, p.
15).
Social Anxiety Social anxiety is a disorder in which individuals assume that they will be negatively
evaluated. This results in an extreme fear of social situations or performance based situations (Iverach,

When I was on the high school speech team, it seemed that I could not go to a round of persuasive

21. Compare The Poems I Wander As A Lonely Cloud By William...
Comparison and Contrast Research Paper The poems I wander as a lonely cloud and To an athlete
dying young are equally different, and similar in many ways. How are these poems different let alone
similar? you may ask. Well in this essay I will compare and contrast the poems that will give you
insight on how the characteristics of these two poems differentiate and, are comparable. For example
tone, symbolism, and structure each play a big part in both poems. However in essay you will also
know the role of these three characteristics, and how each one can makes the poems whole. I wander
as a lonely cloud by William Wordsworth represents that loneliness can bring the bliss of solitude. In
the poem Wordsworth start it off with the speaker wandering in valleys and high hills. The speaker
compares himself as a cloud because a cloud represents loneliness and bemusement, and that
represents the speaker s feelings. The speaker continues to wander until he sees daffodils by a lake
dancing. As the speaker watches the daffodils he explains their dancing as carefree, gleeful and happy.
I saw a crowd a host of daffodils; Beside a lake, beneath the trees, fluttering in the breeze. (Lines 4 6).
The speaker gives the daffodils personality to show the daffodils have humanlike qualities which gives
the flowers life. Along the margin of bay: Ten Thousand I saw at a glance, Tossing their heads in
sprightly dance. (Lines 10 12). After watching the dancing daffodils, the speaker then realizes that the
flowers give him a gift, and that is the bliss of solitude. This gift of solitude helps the speaker out of
his lonesome state and, whenever he feels lonely he remembers the bliss of solitude. And then my
heart fills with pleasure, And the daffodils dance. (Lines 21 24). The speaker thinks of the daffodils,
because of the solitude in his heart which this solitude gives him joy and peace. The speaker comes to

22. A. S. Byatt s The Pink Ribbon
A. S. Byatt s story The Pink Ribbon is a story about change in a marriage as a result of a traumatic
experience, as well as how the struggle between duty and love manifests themselves. In this story, a
man doing what he thinks is his duty becomes overwhelmed with feelings of anger, fear, and
resentment after his transition from spouse to caretaker. Through seemingly imagined encounters with
a beautiful young woman, this man is reminded of his wife and what it is like to have meaningful
contact with another person that is not consumed by taking care of someone else, which causes him to
make a choice in the name of mercy, both for himself and his wife. Byatt shows the changes in James
and Madeleine s relationship through the use of diction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James believed the doll Dipsy was equivalent to Mado, so the use of the word suffocating suggests
that he thought Mado was suffocating or trapped and the only way to help her was to give her release
through death, although it also could be hinting at the method he was going to use. Byatt wrote that
every time James went outside he took huge gulping breaths, which suggests that James felt trapped
himself and might have thought that if Mado were no longer around he would be able to breathe again.
James visits from the fetch (234) ,Dido, also foreshadow Mado s death. A fetch in folklore is an omen
of death. Since Dido reminded him of his wife and what their relationship used to be like, it makes
sense that Mado s death was forthcoming. The last instance of foreshadowing is in the final paragraph
of the story, ...the Teletubbies were sitting on the end of the casket shaped cradles,... (236), which,
again, goes back to the symbol of the Teletubbies doll. The idea of the Teletubbies going to beds that
were shaped like coffins proposes a parallel to where Mado was going to spend her last moments,
which is emphasized by James telling Mado to Come to bed,...Just a rest, for a while, (236). So, are
duty and love really different things? Merriam Webster defines duty as something that is done as part
of a job; something that must be done because it is morally right, and love as a feeling of strong or
constant affection for a person. James sense

With more resources being poured into the development and advancement of Artificial Intelligence
(A.I), the debut of Virtual Personal Assistants (VPAs) redefines the tech industry for revolutionising
the interaction paradigms between users and the internet. The result opens up new possibilities for the
users of next generation to gather data and communicate via new portals of the web. Keyword based
inputs into search engines providing lists of potential sources would no longer be relevant, instead the
future consists of individuals simply interacting via the channels of VPA. Similar to how two people
have a normal conversation, users can tell their assistants what they want to find using natural
languages, the VPA then proceeds to gather and analyses multiple relevant sources of information and
provides the corresponding services to aid in accomplishing a wide range of tasks. Mirroring the
functions and actions of a real assistant, a VPA is tailored towards each individual user, where they
utilise stored information via daily interactions to analyse an individual s preferences and draw upon
their past interaction records in order to determine the next step. In addition to bringing about self
learning mechanism, further improvements to their functionalities can accumulate experiences via

Forrest Gump sits on a park bench in Savannah, Georgia while waiting for a bus to arrive. A single

Forrest s decides to pick up the feather and place it into his briefcase that sits beside him. What is the

Gump, life is merely coincidental events and how one responds to those events. Her famous quote,
Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you re gonna get, emcompasses chance because
just like you do not know what type of chocolate you are going to pick from a box of chocolates, you
do not know what events are going to happen in life. Upon first examination, it would seem as if the
actions and events relating to Forrest Gump convey a coincidental outlook on life. Forrest has no real
plans or desires (besides Jenny) for the future and simply drifts through life with a go with the flow
type attitude. For example, after graduating from college an Army recruiter handed Forrest a pamphlet
and asked if he had given any thought towards his future. Forrest simply replies, Thought? and in the
next scene he had joined the Army. Perhaps this scene encompasses Forest s perchance philosophy on
life or it simply highlights his slow wits but either way throughout the movie there are countless
examples of Forrest s seemingly dumb luck. While staying in a hotel in Washington D.C., Forrest
innocently called the hotel maintenance after it appeared the lights were off in one of the neighboring

27. Summary Of The Daring Recuse
The Daring Recuse
One sunny day Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa were walking to a park near their house. When out
of nowhere a black Suburban pulled up alongside the twins, and the driver asked if they wanted a ride
to the park. Luke and Leia both said no , but suddenly the Stormtroopers that were with the driver
walked up behind the twins catching them off guard. The Stormtroopers knocked out the twins and
catching them before they hit the sidewalk. When they got the twins in the black Suburban they sped
down the road (toward an abandoned warehouse). When the twins did not return home at 1:30 p.m.
Luke and Leia s parents Anakin and PadmĂŠ started to worry, so they called the Miami Dade police.
After an hour Lieutenant Horatio Caine came to the Skywalker residence to talk to the parents of Luke
and Leia and where they were headed to. (There were several witnesses that said that they saw a black
Suburban pull up alongside the twin.) The Miami Dade police department got right to work to find the
missing twins. Meanwhile the black Suburban finally came to a stop outside an abandoned warehouse.
The Stormtroopers got out of the black Suburban and pick up the twins and took them inside the
warehouse. Back at the police station Lieutenant Horatio Caine and his team were working hard trying
to find the twins. Meanwhile at the warehouse the twins were just waking up to find that they were
tied to a chair. The twins were freighted and they just wanted to go home, but what they don t know is
that the Miami Dade police were searching for them. That is when Han Solo stepped out from behind
the black Suburban. As he approaches the freighted twins he asks them Do you know why you are
here? Luke says No. and Leia says the same thing. Han says let me tell you I work for the Emperor of
the Galactic Empire and he wanted Anakin Skywalker s children because they would powerful and
would make great Sith lords possibly more powerful than Anakin. That is why you are here.

28. Chickfil-A Business Proposal
For my project, I will be creating the accounting portions of a business plan for a Chickfil
A restaurant.
I have selected this business for several reasons. Firstly, Chick fil A is the busiest restaurant I have
ever seen. It is the only vendor in the mall food court that requires waiting line dividers. The double
drive thru line wraps around the building most of the time. During peak hours, the parking lot is so
busy that it cannot hold any more cars. Although there are plenty of competing fast food options in my
town, including McDonald s, Burger King, Subway, KFC,
Popeye s and Wendy s all within half a mile of the Chick fil A restaurant, people will park in the
adjacent lot and walk across a busy road rather than go elsewhere for lunch.

According to their website, they receive approximately
20,000 franchise inquiries every year and select 75 to 80, on average, to become new franchise
operators. Last year, when a friend of a friend opened a Chick fil A franchise, I joked that they would
be serving chicken and taking home the bacon . While I did not know for sure how much profit could
be made from a franchise, I could only assume, based on its popularity, that it was a very lucrative
business.
The story of Chick fil A began in 1946 when Truett Cathy, along with his brother Ben, opened the
Dwarf Grill (now the Dwarf House) near the Ford Motor Company Atlanta Assembly
Plant. In 1960, when his second Dwarf Grill location was accidentally burned down, Truett
Cathy was forced to rethink his business. His fried chicken sandwich had always sold well, but they
took a long time to prepare and were more expensive compared to hamburgers and fries. In
1961, he found a pressure cooker that could cook a chicken breast in the same amount of time it took
for him to grill a burger. He then sought to reduce the cost of raw chicken by purchasing boneless,
skinless chicken breasts from Goode Brothers Poultry Company. Although

a. Emirates Supplier Power
The supplier power in airlines is dominated by the world s two largest aircraft manufacturers are
Airbus and Boeing. The competition between the two manufacturers is neck to neck but that would
prove to be a boon for Emirates as the prices would not rocket through the ceiling. A study shows that
Emirates holds 93 Boeing aircrafts and 83 Airbus units (Planespotters, 2009). In 2007, Emirates
purchased 81 Airbus flights, to extend it services however, they chose Airbus over Boeing as the latter
failed to deliver its latest aircrafts on time and moreover, Airbus had quoted a good price (Barryl,
2007). The changing oil prices also have an adverse effect on the aviation industry. In a nutshell, the
bargaining power of suppliers is high. Buyer Power
There are 2 direct flights from Dubai to Hong Kong weekly, rest are 35 are via flights. Fares vary
according to demand, but Emirates not being a budget airline its buyers do not really influence the
price. Further more, a Travel Survey concluded that above 60% of the travellers preferred Emirates
Airlines to any other international Airlines (Glass, 2008).

The first place in Wuthering Heights that we see Heathcliff has fallen victim to the nurture category in
nature vs. nurture is when Heathcliff is brought home to Wuthering Heights and is introduced to the
family in Chapter Four. When Nelly is describing Heathcliff on his arrival to Wuthering heights, she
describes him as a dirty, ragged, black haired child and when Nelly talks about Mrs. Earnshaw s
reaction she says that she was ready to fling it out of doors (37). They referred to this child as an it on
arrival. Throughout the page, Nelly still refers to Heathcliff as an it: Mr. Earnshaw told me to wash it,
and give it clean things, and let it sleep with the children (37). This had to have been degrading,
especially to a child who had lived on his own since he could remember and had no knowledge of any
family whatsoever. Mrs. Earnshaw even goes to take it a step further and refer to Heathcliff as a gypsy
brat and asks why Mr. Earnshaw would dare to bring home such a child when they had their own
bairns to feed and fend for (37). Growing up in this environment on a child, there would be no way
that the child would escape without also being as un nurturing of an individual as his family members.

fact that occasionally it might take long a long time to process. The initial step of enrolling is securing
a name for the organization. This name must be novel and unique and can t be anything that is as of
now being used by some other organization.
Once the name of the organization has been dealt with, the business should present a few records
including the Articles of Association alongside other organization deed reports. These alongside the
enlistment application shape should be authenticated and submitted to the Ministry of Law and
Human rights from where the endorsement should be taken from.
Business License: Any kind of business in Oman needs to get a business permit so as to legitimately
work in the nation. The sort of business one requires fluctuates in light of the kind of business
exercises they are taking part in. For example, a business in the exchanging business would require an

Centuries after another and now the present, the twenty first century still faces a huge issue towards
the acceptance on gender equality. Nonetheless, women are unappreciated in today s society s

world could be whoever they want to be. Sandberg inspires many girls of today s generation for being
a successful woman who followed her dreams and not let inequalities and gender roles affect her.
Through Sandberg s hard work, she became the COO of Facebook and eventually became a

women should be. Such as, leaning in to their careers instead of stepping back to focus on family. In
addition, Sandberg concludes that women shouldn t be afraid of pursuing their ambition because of
the negative views that they may receive or even the fear of failing. In other hand, the author of
Beyond Lean In , Bell Hooks argues that leaning in is maybe not for everyone. Hooks criticizes
Sandberg about her views of how women should be because Hooks thinks that Sandberg did not
consider the women with different backgrounds. Furthermore, Hooks did not ignore the fact that some
women struggles to succeed on the workforce due to their race and social class. Hooks points out a
very legitimate fact because she actually look at different types of women while Sandberg might not

The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin is a short story from the late nineteenth century focusing on a
young woman as she reacts to a report that says her husband, on the top of the list of the report, had
died in a train accident. Due to this unfortunate accident she is given the chance of freedom and
Chopin s story tells that hour.
The main theme to this short story one may think it relates to the saying, carpe diem , meaning to seize
the day. The themes of this short story include oppression and repression. In the late nineteenth
century, society wanted women to take care of their children, cook, and keep the house clean. This
short story hints that Mrs. Mallard s husband was in charge of his wife. Jamil states that a woman is

A piece of irony from the short story was the title of the story, The Story of an Hour. This may be
ironic to one because, just by the title being stated, the story must have happened within an hour, but
Kate Chopin made it seem like it lasted a couple of days. This is ironic because Mrs. Mallard only
needed an hour to know that she did not need her husband anymore to be happy and live. But, it would
take another wife, maybe a few years to fully recover from a spouse s death. The main irony one may
see the most is in the end of the story in paragraph twenty three when Katie Chopin states ââŹÂŚjoy that
kills (Chopin, 2). Jamil states Louise is the joy that she refuses to surrender, as the patriarchy would
require her to do at Brently s return. But, for one climactic hour of her life, Louise does truly taste joy.
(220) This is an ironic sentence at the end of the story due to the doctors believed that Mrs. Mallard
was happy to see her husband alive and in one piece. The ending was very ironic because of the
outcome of Mrs. Mallard. The whole story was a rising action until you got to her death at the end of
the story. The author made it seem that there was so much for Mrs. Mallard to live for, but when Mrs.
Mallard saw her husband, alive, there was not anything worth living for to Mrs.

A2 Media Coursework Production Evaluation
The focus of my investigation was to analyse the representation of women in horror films. The films I
have selected were Resident Evil Retribution (2012) and Halloween (1978). In the film, Resident Evil
Retribution, the representation of women was stronger, whereas Halloween represented females as
weak and vulnerable as they are from a different epoch. I have used codes and conventions and also
subverted the representation of women, in my opening sequence of a horror film, which I will be
discussing with further details.
The codes and conventions include:
⌠Females are represented as weak and vulnerable
⌠Editing / Camera Angles
⌠Iconography
The subversion of stereotypes:
âŚThe females are not sexually objectified
The opening sequence I have created has similar conventions to Halloween (1978). During the closing
equilibrium when Judith Myer is screaming it suggests she is weak and vulnerable, which I have
included where both of the young, female characters scream, once they see the person with the
anonymous mask. I have included this, which ensures the film is easy to market success, as stated by
Steve Neal if there are codes and conventions. Halloween (1978) Judith Myer screaming Trapped

42. Practices And Influence Of The Criminal Legal System
Abstract The criminal legal system has an effect on the life of every American, and it is therefore of
vital public interest to facilitate it functioning optimally. This can only be accomplished with a more
comprehensive understanding of this system. Building on the work of Martin and Cohn (2004) and
Wu, Lake and Cao (2015), this study sought to better understand the system through the
administration of a self report survey. This survey measured participant Attitudes Toward the Criminal

Because of this, it is important to measure attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as
understanding of where these attitudes diverge in society could provide an indication of where to
focus efforts towards reform and improvement of the system. It is also important to explore the
relationship between a belief in a just world and attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as the

criminal legal system and legal socialization, Martin and Cohn (2004) proposed the Attitudes Toward
the Criminal Legal System Scale (ATCLS). Across five studies, they sought to validate their scale
through measuring the correlation between the results of several surveys, including the Belief in a Just
World Scale (BJW), and the ATCLS scale. The goal of the first two studies was to establish reliability
and validity for the ATCLS scale, and the goal of the third study was to establish test retest reliability
of the ATCLS scale. The goal of the final two studies was to replicate the results of the prior three
studies with samples not drawn from student populations. These studies indicated that the ATCLS
survey has
