In Amy Bloom s short story, Silver Water , the main character Rose takes her own life as a result
to living with mental illness. Throughout the story the narrator, Rose s sister, shows the difficulties
of living with mental illness not only for Rose s family, but also for Rose. A common obstacle for
the familyis getting Rose proper care; this is difficult because the family could not find long term

disorder. All of the problems seem to go away with little to no time except for the dependent
personality disorder which would not happen in any typical case. The movie did portray the
dependent part right because Bob always put his happiness above the Doctor which fits what a
person with dependent personality disorder would do. Another thing that I noticed was that Dr.
Marvin never tries to realize why Bob is actually at the house. He never tries to have a session or
get to the bottom of why he is at the house and will not leave. Instead of being so wrapped up
with getting rid of Bob, Leo should have tried to treat Bob. With the right treatment Bob might
have gone back to New York. Another major flaw, done for comedic purpose, was that counselors

Although, Straight Line was hurt, I refused to give up, I endlessly searched to locate a
replacement horse. Thus came Princess, a buckskin mare that I borrowed from an acquaintance

In The Democracy of color, author Philip Cowan outlines a brief overview of the use of color in

In 1885 the printing of information would change dramatically upon the invention of the Linotype
machine. Ottmar Mergenthaler s invention fostered a thriving print culture in American history.
This machine increased the production of printing with the advanced procedure known as line
casting. This allowed text to be printed one line at a time, instead of printingone typeset at a time.
This complex yet innovative machine allowed companies such as newspapers to educate the masses
in a rapid manner. By the twentieth century, many countries were using the new typesettingmachine
to educate its own people in a fast and coast efficient manner.
The Linotype machine was invented by Ottmar Mergenthaler. Mergenthaler was a German
watchmaker who migrated to America in early 1870 s. While Mergenthaler was still in his twenties
he moved to Baltimore where he began to work on machines that were used in print production.
These machines were structured to preform typewriting and lithography functions. Mergenthaler
began to envision a machine that could produce multiple castings of type. During this period there
were many inventors working on typesetting innovations. Ottmar not only wanted his machine to
produce cast type, but he wanted it to produce type in lines of text at the same time. He also
wanted the machine to stamp out matrices and cast the metal as well. To accomplish his goal,
Mergenthaler went through a lot of trial and error. By 1885 the Linotype machine was a success.
