2. Constitutional Democracy Essay
To begin with, the United States founding fathers are George Washington, James
Madison, and Alexander Hamilton, they wrote the Constitution of the United States
in 1787. The United States is a constitutional democracy. A constitutional democracy
is a type of government in which powers are limited by a supreme law called the
Constitution, and the population has the power to directly vote on a political matter
which is a direct democracy. In the United States, this works differently. The
population only gets to vote directly for electing our Representatives. They represent
the will of the people of the States in the government. In constitutional democracies,
people must obey the laws, because it is their representatives who have the power...

After that, the bill gets voted. If it gets 218, or more votes it gets sent to the
Senate. The bill goes into committee, if it gets approved it s sent to the Senate floor
to be voted. If the bill gets 51, or more votes, the bill is ready to go to the President.
The bill goes to the President. If the President signs it, it becomes a law. If the
President refuses to sign it, or vetoes. It goes back to the House of Representatives.
If both the Senate, and the House of Representative feel the bill should become a
law. They can vote again on the bill. If the bill gets 2/3 votes in the Senate and the
House of Representatives. The veto is overridden, and the bill becomes a law. If
someone sues, because of that law, the Supreme Court might find it unconstitutional
and block it. To continue, the Constitution has been changed twenty seven times
since it was written. These changes or additions are called amendments. They are also
very important. The Constitution also has separation of powers. Adapted from Baron
de Montesquieu philosophy, Baron de Montesquieu believed that in order for a
government to best serve the people, they need to have separation of powers. It s best
used to prevent tyranny. Separation of powers is the three branches, meaning they
carry an equal amount of power. Something very important in the constitution is
checks and balances. Checks and balances are that any branch can threaten to stop or
block the other branch. For
3. The Theme Of Immaturity In John Updike s A P
Analysis of the Theme of Immaturity in Updike s A P
John Updike s short story, A P, which made its first appearance in The New Yorker in
1961, is arguably one of the shortest and funniest literary pieces found in college
literature anthologies taught in American schools. Perhaps, its appeal and peculiarity
stem from the fact that Sammy, who doubles up as the narrator and protagonist in the
story, is trying to explain, from his point of view, his impulsive decision to quit his
cashier job at the A P supermarket. In the story, the author uses the protagonist to
develop the theme of immaturity. Throughout the plot, Updike seems to suggest that
Sammy s childish behaviors, as is exemplified by his judgmental attitude, ill
mannered personality, and sexist thoughts, can explain why he impulsively quit his
job. This paper explores the thematic concern of immaturity by focusing on the
immature behaviors of the protagonist.
Firstly, in his short story, A P Updike portrays the main character, Sammy, as having
an overly judgmental attitude towards those people around him, including his
customers, co workers, and family. Sammy metaphorically likens the shoppers in the
supermarket to sheep. For instance, he loosely refers to the three girls shopping in
the supermarket as sheep pushing their carts down the aisle (2). In doing so, he is
implying that the act of the shoppers to follow each other behind, while talking in
whispers, giggling and fumbling words, made them appear
4. Sonoran Desert Research Paper
The cultural group that I am researching is the Yaqui (Sonoran Desert, U.S. and
Mexico). The topic I have chosen to research is the different rituals the Yaqui
perform. The reason I chose to research the Yaqui is because they re indigenous to
the same region as I am. The Yaqui, people of Sonora [Mexico] settled along the
Yaqui river... many Yaqui emigrated to Arizona to escape subjugation ( Yaqui.
Columbia 2016). Growing up I never realized how much history took place in
Southern Arizona, so it s interesting to be able to learn about the people who made
Arizona the state it is today. It s very important for me to learn about the Yaqui, since
the Pascua Yaqui tribe is based right here in Tucson, Arizona. Knowing the history of
your state, country, culture, etc. is important so that you understand the present times
and how the future could be formed. As for choosing to research the rituals of the
Yaqui, I thought it would be a good opportunity to learn about the different rituals
that take place in their everyday lives and how these ceremonies differ from events
that take place in my own life.
The Yaqui have evolved themselves into having a blended religion, with the use of
syncretism. Syncretism is, the mixing/blending of elements from two or more

The Matachin, represents the forces of good (Yaqui Easter Ceremony2009). The

the Virgin Mary (Yaqui Easter Ceremony 2009). Both the Matachin dancers and
roses combined represent the spirit of the Virgin Mary, whom looks favorable on the
Yaqui people (Yaqui Easter Ceremony 2009). Having these dancers brings about the

5. My Table Conflict
The struggle between staying within society s expectations and the desire to make a
commitment to one s art can be daunting. This dilemma has been questioned for ages.
Sometimes society even questions someone who doesn t quite fit into a norm they
believe exists. These conflict or struggle is addressed in Jane Campions film, An
Angel at My Table. The film is based on a trilogy of autobiographies by Australian
author, Janet Frame. Adapted originally for a three part mini series, the film chronicles
Janet s life from childhood to young adulthood. Throughout the film its director
highlights the contest for one person, with immense talent and insecurity, to conform
to the social norms of the 30 s, 40 s, and onward. The director s use of narrations,...

Janet throughout the film is notably placed in windows. In Mark Cousins book
The Story of Film he mentions Campion s way of making Frame look startled in
the film. Campion and her cinematographer, Stuart Dryburgh, used wide angle
lenses to exaggerate spaces in the film (Cousins, 708). Her mother frames her face
in the first train station scene in order to protect her from the scenes of mental
illness out her window. Framed by the window Janet is still contained (Gillet). She
is looking outside for what awaits. Her containment within that window can also be
viewed as her containment in her mind as far as the community sees it. A positive
outlook is asserted in the scenes where Janet is in Spain. In this shots she is sitting
in the window while it is wrapped around her. She smiles, alone in her freedom to be
who she without restrictions from outer infringements. Finally, the closing scene, the
author is home and content to be within that window. Sue Gillet concurs; She speaks
the words she has found to write, comforting words (Gillet, 1). Janet Frame is no

Analysis
What Domino s Pizza Did Wrong?
As stated in Forbes, Domino s ignored the importance of a media crisis team, the
ability to follow real time developments and the need to respond quickly (Vogt,
2009). Domino s communication team failed by not publicly responding to the
offensive video. As claimed by AdAge, during the first 24 hours, a Domino s
spokesman, Tim McIntyre, refused to leave any comments about the situation. He
stated that The chain would not be posting statements on the company website for
fear of alerting more consumers to a negative story, he said, millions of people
view the chain s website every day, if only to order a pizza. (York, 2009) Although
the company did not have a social media presence at that time, they had a social
media team working on the launching of the new Domino s social media platforms,
and they didn t use their own resource tools to address the crisis. Even though
Domino s took action during the first 24 hours after being warned about the
videos, they did it behind closed doors, ignoring the public. In accordance with the
Wall Street Journal, Richard Levick, the president of the PR Firm Levick Strategic
Communications, gives an F to Domino s for not giving any response during the
first 24 hours. (The Wall Street Journal, 2009). Leaders of organizations need to be
prepared to face crisis and take responsibility during a crisis, and Domino s simply
did not care to answer any concerns or questions regarding the disgusting video
7. Social Mobility Of Poor Kids Should Depend On College...
Social Mobility of Poor Kids Should depend on College Education Andrew
Simmons, author of the article The Danger of Telling Poor Kids That College is the
Key to Social Mobility, argues that educators have utilized one tool in the toolbox to
inspire minority students into believing that their upward social mobilityis dependent
on four years of college education. These educators only considered the difference in
earning power of college graduates versus high schoolgraduates to buttress their
argument. With so much emphasis on going to college, Simmons also contends that
the educators miss the boat and end up causing harm to the poor students. There is
no denying that poor students start from disadvantaged position compared to their
white counterparts in high school, their career parts seem to via in two different
directions. Many of the poor students gravitate towards the liberal arts colleges
while the privileged kids dream of medical or law schools and becoming future
doctors and lawyers. Simmons offers the study conducted by Jean Anyon as another
example of how schools teaching poor students from low income families emphasize
keeping students busy and managing behavior, while a middle class school
deemphasizes individual expression and in depth analysis and reward the dutiful
completion of specific rote tasks. Because the educators have stressed so much on
attending college, thirty two percent of students end up with a major they never
intended to, or
8. What Was The Difference Between Platt And Ward
Both Platt and Ward do an excellent examination of critically going through what
was happening in the Child Savings Movement and America s juvenile justice
system. Platt and Ward gave me perspectives of beliefs, biases, practices, and
institutions that existed during the inception of the juvenile justice system. I will be
discussing one of the practices which is child labor and also I will be discussing
about the orphan trains. Does punishment work? I will then be discussing reflectively
about what I would have done to address this problem.
Platt s view on the motivation of the child saving movement was interesting. He
believed there was a middle class desire to control the dangerous and perishing
classes. A push from middle class professionals working in the area to improve their
status. The desire of middle class women to widen their sphere of influence. In 1969,
Platt summarized three themes: (1) The child savers were not benevolent, because
they imprisoned children for long periods of time under the pretext of protecting
them from corrupting influences, (2) the ideal home setting was gauged by idealized
middle or upper class standards that would be difficult for anyone to maintain, and
(3) the child savers blurred the line between dependent and delinquent children, so
any criminal child lost the right to due process and anybody who argued this point
was treated as uniformed. Child labor was extremely terrifying during the child
saving movement. These children were
9. Second Great Awakening Dbq Essay
Reform Movements in the United States sought to expand democratic ideals began
in the 1820s throughout the 1850s with the address of major issues from slavery
and suffrage to the Second Great Awakening. Slavery began in the south as a way to
for upperclassmen to make money. Suffrage began as a way for women to vote with
the concept of equality. The Second Great Awakening advocated change that was led
by religious leaders.
Slavery was a way of living leading up to the 17th century, many activists such as
Frederick Douglass lead the movement to abolish slavery in the South. The race to

of slaves. As a cry for help, many slaves would escape from their land to ... Show

10. Essay The Role of Database Administrator
Importance
Few companies today can exist without an IT department. The IT department contains
many of the company s technology experts. Almost all companies rely on computers
to some degree whether it is an international conglomerate or a small startup
company. Some companies are very dependent on computer systems while others use
them only for accounting for payrolls and everyday computer tasks. Most
organization, even the smallest company have people whose job is to make sure that
the computer system is up and running or an emergency contact to call when the
computer systems goes down. In the future, I want to take the head of a database

My career might start off as a database designer. Database designers determine what
are best types of databases to solve certain problems and work with database tools in
order to develop those databases.
After a database designer, I could be promoted to a manager role. Knowledge
managers have a much higher level knowledge to business problems than database
designers. Knowledge managers usually focus on an area like accounting and
working with database designers to develop databases that meet the needs of the
users. In contrast to database designers, knowledge managers handle different tasks.
Knowledge managers interfere with users and database designers in order to ensure
that the databases meet the needs of the users and most importantly, the company.
They usually have a specialty in a field in organizing, refining or gathering.
Responsibility of database jobs
The responsibility of a database administrator is to serve as the link between the
database designers, knowledge managers and users. The database designers are often
brought in for completing specific projects and then moving onto other projects at
other companies or different departments at the same company. Their job are usually
finished when they finish designing the database. While they may be used in the

11. Adaptive Leadership
The adaptive leadership approach is different than others because it is follower based
and it deals with how those followers deal with difficult problems. Adaptive
leadership centers on how people respond to change and how leaders support them in
a changing environment.
The role of the leader is to mobilize, motivate, organize, orient, and focus the
attention of the follower. The follower s role is to be willing to change, adapt, and
listen to the leader during this transition.
The three ways leaders regulate change are through creating a holding environment,
Provide Direction, and regulate personal distress. The first way is to create a holding
environment establish an atmosphere in which people can feel safe tackling difficult
problems, but not so much so that they can avoid the problem. The second way is to
provide direction, protection, orientation, conflict management, and productive
norms. This helps to identify the adaptive challenges that others face then frame
these so they can be addressed, be responsible to manage the rate of adaptive
change, orient people to new roles and responsibilities, handle conflict effectively,
establish productive norms. The third way is to regulate personal distress , leaders
need to keep people focused on the hard work they need to do and the tension that
accompanies that, while at the same time being sensitive to the very real frustrations
and pain that people feel when doing adaptive work, leaders need to make sure they

12. Essay On Louisiana Purchase
When the Louisiana Purchase was made by Thomas Jefferson in 1802, nobody in the
United States knew anything about the territory. Everyone had to know more about
the huge land grant that was just purchased by the U.S. People took the challenge
and went out to see the great land. Famous explorers are known for their exploration
of the Louisiana Purchase. Two famous explorers are known by many, Lewis and
Clark. Although, there is one explorer that is less known but explored just as much
area as Lewis and Clark. Zebulon Pikestarted his expedition of the Louisiana
Purchase shortly after Lewis and Clark.
Zebulon Montgomery Pike was born on July 5, 1779 in Lamberton, New Jersey.
His father was Zebulon Montgomery Pike, who served in the Revolutionary Army,
and his mother was Isabella Brown. Zebulon was the second of eight children.
Since he was raised in a military family, he learned many military skills. Although
he didn t have much education, since he was out in Midwestern, Ohio and Illinois,
posts he was able to pick up languages such as, French and Spanish. By 1794,
Zebulon entered into his father s army regiment as a cadet. He rose through the
ranks, so five years later he was a second lieutenant. He was able to rise to first
lieutenant later that year. In 1801, he married Clarissa Brown in Cincinnati. The two
had children but one daughter grew through her infancy.
Before Pike s more well known explorations, he was station out in the Midwest

13. The Magician s Nephew Research Paper
The Magician s Nephew The Magician s Nephew is an amazing story written by
C.S.Lewis. He was a famous writer,
and he wrote the Chronicles of Narnia. These books are based of the Bible, and
Aslan, a strong
lion, is God in Narnia. This paper will be uncovering the similarities, differences and
viewpoints
about God and Aslan.
Aslan has many similarities with God. In the Magician s Nephew, Aslan created
everything in
Narnia (Lewis 123). God created the Earth and everything it contained (Genesis 1).
They both
created and rule over the worlds. (Lewis 9 10), (Whole Bible). Another trait they both
have is
they are merciful (Lewis 12 13) (Bible).
Although Aslan and God are similar, they are also very different to. God created

creatures do not talk, except for the humans (Genesis). Aslan chose special animals to

(Lewis 9 10), (Genesis). In the book, Aslan did make two humans rule, but he did not
create
them, they came into his world (Lewis 11).
Now the viewpoint, and the answer for me is yes, I do believe Aslan is God. One
reason I
believe is that there is actually a song that sings God is like a lion, (Newsboys song).
I also
believe this because in The Magician s Nephew Aslan quotes, You know better than
14. you think
you know,... (Lewis 11). This is proving to me that Aslan is God. I have one more
reason;
Aslan is a lion. (Lewis 9). In the Bible, God is referred to as The Lion and the Lamb ,

troop, aspiring to earn the Eagle Scout Award. Of course, she could join Girl
Scouts and ascend through their ranks, but she had been an honorary member of
her brother s Boy Scout troop and wanted to follow in his footsteps. So far, her
appeal to the national office of the BSA in Irving, TX has been denied (Khan). Their
official response referred to the charter of the Boy Scouts which was approved by
Congress and President Woodrow Wilson in 1915, to promote, through organization,
and cooperation with other agencies, the ability of boys to do things for themselves
and others, to train them in Scoutcraft, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self
reliance, and kindred virtues, using the methods which are now in common use by
Boy Scouts. But the history of the Scouting movement can be traced to England in

16. Tone Of Those Winter Sundays
Childhood is usually something many people who do not put in the back of their
minds but rather would enjoy speaking about. But others think of it as more as a
dark time in their lives and want nothing more then to take it and put it in a tiny
spot where it will never be found or heard of again. This is evident in the poem
Those Winter Sundays written by Robert Hayden. Hayden talks about what seems
to be the relationship between a young boy and his father but is does not seem to
be one of the happiest relationships. It appears to be one full of darkness and
sadness and maybe even abuse. Hayden uses the setting, the tone of voice and his
choice of words to create the sad and depressed state that the poem talks about.
Hayden starts the beginning of the poem by talking about how his father who was
old and exhausted getting up every morning to start the fires in the home to make
sure the house was warm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker talks in very short words and ones that seem to tell a tale of unknown
sadness. Hayden uses blue black cold to help represent the tone of sadness and
loneliness that the family household feels. Also with the description of the father
having cracked hands that ached showed that the father also did not do well with
the cold each and every morning but also showed that he did work hard to provide
a proper life for his family. The choice of words in the poem also add to the
depressed state the family stays in. The speaker in the poem talks about winter cold
all throughout the poem which seems to show that the speaker does feel a deep
sadness and maybe even regret when thinking about his past and the the things they
may have gone through. And lastly when the speaker repeatedly says what did I
know, what did I know shows that now that he has grown up and is an adult, he
finally understands the sacrifices that his father made to make sure that he had a good

18. The Role Of Social Class In An Inspector Calls By J. B....
J. B. Priestley was very focused on morals in politics throughout his life. He
created a party known as the Common Wealth Party, which fought social injustices
in Britain and social democracy. Priestly wanted to have the political party no
longer favor the higher class society, creating a voice for those in lower classes. He
used his socialist beliefs to incorporate the unfairness of the social upper classes and
the responsibilities they lacked judgment of. Priestly heavily argued that the lower
class could be happy in a socialist state, and how the community and the reaction will
come together, a socialist idea. He wrote An Inspector Callsto pose the question, can
we all live together? In it, he calls out a family of the higher class and makes them
realize the actions of their self minded ways. The play reflects the quote because of
the way Priestly brought attention to how the social classwas not the only class in
society, and how a lesson of responsibility was needed to teach the them there are
consequences for our actions.
The play, An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley, reflects the quote We don t live alone
because of the lesson Inspector Goole was trying to teach the Birley family.
Throughout the play, the Inspector calls out a situation between each family member,
something which each believed tied together to cause one person, Eva Smith, to
commit suicide. This woman lived a hard life and went by two names, being

21. Climate Change Is An Undeniable And Unavoidable Reality
Introduction
Climate change will force millions of people to flee their homes over the coming
century (Docherty Giannini et al. 2010).
Global climate change has become an undeniable and unavoidable reality. In its latest
assessment report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the international
body that provides the most comprehensive reports dealing with the science of
climate change, has established that warming of the climate system is unequivocal .
Additionally, it concludes that human activities such as land clearing and burning of
fossil fuels have increased the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to
unprecedented levels (IPCC 2013).
Beyond the implications for the climate system and the consequent environmental
costs associated with such activities, anthropogenic climate change generates
immense impacts on the development of human societies: livelihoods are greatly
affected, food security is threatened, health and sanitation conditions decline,
biodiversity and ecosystem services are lost, fresh water availability declines,
agricultural activities are affected and the social wellbeing of billions of people
around the world is at risk (IPCC 2014).
Moreover, the associated changes brought about by climate change will make large
parts of the world uninhabitable causing millions of people to leave their homes. In
this context, this essay will explore the situation and prospects of climate change
refugees, considering the circumstances
22. The Psychoanalysts of Violence Essay
The film Battle for Algiers can be analyzed thoroughly through Frantz Fanon s and
Hannah Arendt s polar opposite theories on violence. The implication of both theories
is represented in the film that has captured the understanding of both insightful
phenomena. Fanon s views on violence are it unifies individuals into forming a
complex unit organism that works together, rinses, in addition it is presented as an
effective and productive mean that support the process of decolonization. In contract,
Arendt s theory detaches the concept of violence from power and emphasizes that the
driven reasons for violence is anti political. Both philosophers present distinctive
theories upon the use of violence; Fanon elucidates his philosophy on... Show more

Hannah Arendt was regarded as one of significant and persuasive political
philosophers of the 20th century. While as her theories contradict fanon s, her
philosophical theory apposes the naturalization acts of violence, entailing its human
nature. Arendt (1969) claims that a society that acts on violence is a society that
lacks power; in her view, force (violence) and power should not be regarded as one in
the practice of politics (1969). In addition, Arendt explains violent revolutions are
destructive and therefore its results are uncontrollable and has negative outcomes for
humankind. In views of change, revolution must accomplish core changes in
process of decolonization that is logical and relating. The fundamental opposition
for resorting to violence as a mean to produce change is the neutralization of violent
revolutions as an effect of resorting to it as a strategic procedure to claim change
and justice, this results in preparing the society to act and be totalitarianism.
Moreover, the knowledge and belief that man knows his specified goal is ultimately

23. Essay on The Puritan Dilemma
The Puritan Dilemma
I. Subject.
This book is a short biography about John Winthrop. In this book Morgan outlines
how Winthrop struggled with the dilemma, first internally, as he dealt with the
question of whether traveling to the New World represented a selfish form of
separatism, the desire to separate himself from an impure England, or whether, as he
eventually determined, it offered a unique opportunity to set an example for all men
by establishing a shining city upon a hill, a purer Christian community in the
Massachusetts Bay Colony. In this regard, it seems to have been of vital importance
to Winthrop and his fellow Puritan colonists that they had the approval of the King
and that though they were physically distancing ... Show more content on

The reader can learn a lot about many other people even though the book is a
biography of John Winthrop.
B. Its worst feature: I think this book s worst feature is that it is not very interesting.
This book doesn t keep your attention. On various occasions the author goes into so
much depth that the reader forgets the main idea that he is trying to get across. I
found myself reading the same lines over and over because I wasn t paying attention
and wasn t really reading it.
III. Recommendation of the book
I wouldn t recommend this book to the average reader. It is a bit hard to read
because the author goes into so much depth that the reader could very often forget
the main idea. It is a good, informative book but a bit drawn out.
IV. Five possible identifications from the book
1. Puritanism was a reform movement that grew up in the church of England,
Anglican church. They wanted to purify all aspects of Catholicism (anti separatist) or
to worship in separate forms so purified (separatist).
2. The Court of Wards was an institution whose purpose was the administer the lands
of the King s wards
3. Roger Williams a Salem minister that was an extreme separatist. He challenged the
authority of civil government to regulate religious behavior, which was the Puritans
idea of governments sole purpose.
4. Arminiamism is the belief that one could influence God and secure salvation by
preparing oneself to
24. The Power Of Literacy In Jimmy Santiago Baaca s
Coming...
Jimmy Santiago Baca s Coming into Language displays a dark, yet uplifting view of
the power of literacy. From his beginning in the hospital, toward the end during his
imprisonment, Baca moves from the mindset of a rebellious teenager to a poetic
adult. Through vivid descriptions, metaphors, the appeal to the audiences emotions,
and Baca sets up a transformational framework to show how literacy can be a way of
escape. Baca s story seeks to explain a point of view that one is more likely to
become incarcerated and to struggle in life if he is uneducated. I wrote to
sublimate my rage, from a place where all hope is gone, from a madness of having
been damaged too much, from a silence of killing rage (Baca).
In his writing, Baca uses word pictures to show a side of despair in his life that
eventually leads to a positive change where he now has hope. The beginning is
filled with scenarios of him working in an emergency room mopping up pools of
blood and carting plastic bags stuffed with arms, legs and hands to the outdoor
incinerator (Baca), then moves on to detailed descriptions of his times spent
incarcerated, and how the detectives treat an intoxicated man. His shrill screams
raked my nerves like a hacksaw on bone, the desperate protest of his dignity against
their inhumanity. (Baca) The wording he uses describes a vivid, violent, and at times
beautiful view. Throughout the narrative, Baca builds an explanation of the
circumstances he is in, and builds a visual where
25. Arkansas Natural Resources
Natural resources Natural resources are materials or substances such as minerals,
forests, water, and fertile land that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain,
and Arkansas is rich with natural resources. Arkansas has a wide assortment of
resources, with yearly generation esteemed in abundance of $1,000,000,000.
Petroleum, normal gas, and bromine, are the main three resources created in Arkansas.
Arkansas drives the country underway of bauxite, giving more than 80% of this
important resources from which aluminum is made. Arkansas likewise positions first
underway of bromine, representing around one portion of the world s yield, and in
silica stone. Murfreesboro, Arkansas, is the home of the main diamondmine open to
the people on the planet. The timber industry is a very important part of Arkansas
fortune, too.
Diamonds and Quartz As per J. Willard Hershey in The Book of Diamonds,
precious stones were initially found in Arkansas in 1906. The state is one of the
most elevated designer of the stones in the United States; somewhere around 1972
and 2005, 25,369 jewels were mined in the state, as per the official state
website.Often called Arkansas jewels, quartz gems are minerals found in Arkansas.
Quartz precious stone was announced the state mineral in 1967. Since the brilliant

26. Listening And Listening Skills
Listening skills are crucial for developing effective communication skills. It greatly
influences the way one speaks. This means we tend to speak what we listen. This is
also true of our mother tongue. All of us, as children, learnt our mother tongue the
same way. A child learns to speak its mother tongue by listening to its mother s
language; observes gestures and formulates vocabulary in a social context from those
who live around it.Littlewood (1984) states that: The child imitates the sounds and
patterns which he hears around him. As it is a natural phenomenon or approach to
Language learning, there is a strong relationship between listening (a receptive skill)
and speaking (a productive skill). It is this co relation which produces verbal
expression. Listening is one of the four basic skills through which a language is
taught. It is one of the two skills that we use when communicating orally. According
to Rost (1991).However, he feels that in recent times listening is assuming greater
importance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Commenting on the existing coursebooks, Hill and Tomlinson(2003) suggest a list of
listening activities that have potential for achieving rich intake of language, such as
listening to short stories, extracts from novels, anecdotes, plays, news, documentaries
and commentaries and poems and then engaging in discussions with peers on various
topics. Such task oriented activities provide learners with a reason to speak. While
facilitating intake, interactive listening activities also provide opportunities to
process the information in multidimensional ways. This process includes mental
repetition of what is heard, connecting what is heard to life experiences and
knowledge of the world and responding effectively. This helps in rich and relevant
intake as well as retention of silent features of the
27. The Beer Industry Is A Competitive
The beer industry is a competitive, many faceted enterprise. In every industry, there
is competition as customers have a variety of product alternatives and every
competitor are collectively competing with one another (Ayub et al, 2013). In
2012, over 1,750 breweries operated in the United States (U.S.), with over 1,920
the following year (Brewers, 2015). The industry s 2013 total dollar retail value
was $7.6 billion dollars as pint consumption amount of 50 billion pints at an
average price of $3.87 per pint (Brewers, 2015). Overall, the industry claims $196
billion in yearly beer revenue, equal value to Columbia s Gross Domestic Product
(GDP (Brewers, 2015). By February 2015, over 28 million beer barrels have been
manufactured, compared against 29 million by February 2014 (DOT, 2015).
Companies are willing to spend capital to achieve a percentage of those returns. In
2012, beer companies spent more than $1 billion on TV ads, an increase from
$950 million in 2009 (Steinberg, 2013). Anheuser Busch averaged about $1.42
billion in advertising per year (Austin, 2012). Molson Coors, on the other hand,
spent over $486 million in advertising and promotion for 2014 (Molson Coors,
2015). As part of developing market strategies, a company should know where it is
strong or slack, as well as consider past experiences and future possibilities. One
such means is a SWOT analysis. The worth of this tool lies in its simplicity and
clarity by scrutinizing the internal
28. Conformity And Normative Social Psychology
Social Psychology has always been a key element in our understanding of human
behaviour. Conformity plays a big part in the history of social psychology;
conformity (also known as Majority Influence) is a type of social influence that
involves a person changing their thoughts and beliefs in order to fit into a group. An
example of this is during WW2, in which Hitler used his dominating opinions and
authority to influence the Nazis and obscure their views, which lead them to conform
to the horrendous orders that were given during the war. Therefore social psychology
can help us understand how a certain phrase, appearance, status, or opinion can
influence different behaviours in different cultures. However, certain cultures are
more susceptible to conform. This links to the idea of Gerard s (1955) development
of social theory, normative social influence, this consists of the desire to fit in and
obtain social approval, which results in avoiding punishment, exclusion and ridicule.
Two important studies that have been conducted by Asch and Milgram are great
examples of how conformity and normative social influence can affect people s
behaviours.
Asch (1956) conducted a line judgment task in response to Sherif s (1937) Auto
kinetic effect . The aim of his experiment was to show that people conform to group
norms when put in an ambiguous situation. From this study Sherif concluded that
when in an ambiguous situation people look to others for help and guidance, this is
30. The Importance Of The African Slave Trade
What was the African slave trade like? Well, the slave trade in Africa was mostly
African peoples taking and enslaving other, sometimes rival, African peoples. The
newly enslaved people often separated from their families would then be taken and
put into shackles, shoved below deck into a stifling and cramped environment; then
left for the duration of the trip, surrounded by odious sights and smells. Slavery
Throughout History: Biographies, Slavery Throughout History: Primary Sources,
and the excerpt from Tribal Scars all include descriptions of this and further
examples on how the slave trade in Africa violates articles three, four, and five of
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. A man whose name struck fear into
the hearts of African peoples all along the east coast of Africa, a man who led
slavers directly to his own people; meet Mohammed bin Hamid, better known as
Tippu Tib (the one who blinks). Tippu was born in Zanzibar, he grew up trading
slaves with his father for beads, cowry shells, copper, cotton, and cloth. As he got
older he eventually took over and expanded his father s trade to Arabia, Muscat,
Persia, Turkey, and Egypt. He and his men even made deals with local villages to raid
rival peoples. Tipu himself is guilty of violating articles four and five of The
Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Article four reads as such, No one shall be
held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their

State Warriors led his team to win the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. In
the 2015 2016 season, Kyrie Irving the Cavaliers won the NBA Finals against the
Warriors. After Kyrie Irving outplayed Stephen Curry the Warriors, people started to
debate. Who is the better point guard, Kyrie Irving or Stephen Curry? Kyrie Irving is
way better than Stephen Curry. Kyrie got rookie of the year award. Curry never got
an award when he started off. It took time for Curry to get good while Kyrie was
already good in his debut in the NBA. Rookie of the year award is not easy to get,

Curry did less of that against Kyrie Irving. Kyrie can face his opponent better than his

Stephen Hawking was born on January 8th, 1942, in Oxford, England. It is said
that in his early years he had a passion for the sky and the sciences. In his academic
life he was not an exceptional student. Stephen Hawking desired to study
mathematics, but Oxford did not offer a degree in that field. He decided to study
physics, but more specifically, cosmology. Hawking did not put much time into his
studies. In 1962 Hawking graduated with honors in natural science and went to
attend Trinity Hall at Cambridge University for a PHD in cosmology. Hawking
started noticing symptoms of ALS while he was at Oxford. Hawking had to stay
home after he saw a doctor about his symptoms. He was diagnosed with amyotrophic

33. Martin Heidegger s Being And Time Analysis
When we encounter entities in the world we address ourselves to the question of
their Being. When a child points at something and asks what s that? this means that
he is aware that there is a Being and there is a need of a name for it. Moreover, this
question points to the fact that there is something which is already distinguishable
from the rest of the things in this world and stands out from them in terms of its Being
.
What is Being? is the essence of Martin Heidegger s Being and Time (Sein und Zeit)
book (1927). Although Being is one of the universal concepts, it is hard to define
because it exists above and beyond all categories that we have in our understanding.
For example, we can t apply the term entity to Being because Being is neither a thing
nor a genus, and cannot be defined according to logic. This is surprising because

Another concept is being in which is a term usually associated with involvement in
a certain context and can t be thought about in isolation, but in Being in something.
However, Being in doesn t suggest a spatial relationship. Immanuel Kant also spoke
of space and time as a condition for the perception of the world, but Heidegger
argues that it isn t possible to discover the world if we take spatiality a priori
condition.
Being in the world is the grounding state of Being or the fundamental base upon
which all other states of Being stand and it is a state of Dasein, and it elaborates the
broad principles upon which any actual Dasein operates. Being in the world is a
compound expression and points to the fact that Heidegger s philosophy regarded
Being and the world as two interrelated concepts that must be grasped together; not
separate ones. In this sense there isn t any differences between subject and object and
internal and

35. The Marble Champ
Never give up. Always keep going. Try hard. Practice makes perfect. The Marble
Champ by Gary Soto is a great story. A girl named Lupe is not good at sports but
she finds something athletic that she could be good at. She found marbles. She
practiced until she got so good, she won the marbles championship. For this matter,
I think a possible theme in this story is to never give, just like Lupe did. A couple
reasons why, are because she practices, perseveres, and always gives 100% effort.
To begin, one reason why a possible theme could be to never give up is Lupe
practices. At the beginning of the story Lupe did fingertip pushups. She did 20 of
them in sets of five, so every so often she could take a break. This seems like a lot
to ask from someone who isn t that strong. She also squeezed a eraser for a long
time. From doing this she got so good she beat Alfonso. Alfonso was a
neighborhood kid who was really good at marbles, but Lupe got so good she beat
him! In the story it says, Man, she s bad! Alfonso said. She can beat the other girls
for sure. I think. This was right after Lupe beat Alfonso, and he was one of the best
at marbles. Another reason is Lupe only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Persevere means to keep trying even if you have failed. One example, is that even
in marbles when Lupe missed a shot she didn t let it get her, and make her quit, this
shows that she wants to keep going and continue, not quit. Secondly, she wasn t good
at sports. Instead of just thinking she wouldn t be good at something athletic. She
tried. In the story it says, She could not catch a pop up figure in which direction to
kick the soccer ball. Instead, she at least put in effort to try and get good at something
athletic. Finally, In the marble championship Lupe was going up against a girl that
looked tough, but Lupe didn t turn around and walk away. She faced the girl. Lupe

Separation of Church and State:
Carter says that religion needs to be autonomy, that we need a freedom of religion,
an independent moral voice, we need to take decisions to be able to be critical of the
state, which is a vital role that religion plays. The idea of separating church from the

Chausse Tech Language arts Mrs. Barnett 22 November, 2017 Are cell phones
good in school? 73% of teens have or have access to smartphones according to Pew
Research studies. This means that a significant amount of teens have phones and
use them everyday and they are comfortable with them.. At this point in time cell
phone use in school is a very controversial topic for most people. Any districts that
are planning on setting a policy should not be worried about phones in class. Many
teens use phones in class for research.very few teens cheat on tests or quizes. B.O.E
members are afraid of teens committing cyber bullying, going on social media, and
cheating on tests and quizzes. But research shows us that not that many people do
these things in class. More and more schools are starting to take advantage of
students having phones in class. According to U.S.A Today 73% of Advanced
Placement teachers use cell phones in class. Cell Phones are good for teens in
school.. As research shows, they can be used as a learning tool. Research can be
made easier by the use of cell phones. cell phones can be used to record data in
science and to do research. Cell phones are good in school. First off, cell phones in
school can be used as a learning tool. Many teachers think phones in class can be a
disruption and ban use of phones.Teachers take advantage of teens who refuse to
turn off their phone and put it away. Mia Dalta, a student from Mason High School
says using technology in everyday life is not that new to us because we grew up
using technology. I believe she is correct to say this. We are all comfortable using
cell phones because that is all most teens know is technology . The teachers are
making class more interactive by using phones as clickers to answer questions,
provide feedback on students progress, and also to collaborate on group projects and
capture teacher s notes. This can be useful for teachers and students. While a student
is working in a group the teacher can comment and the student can then work and be
more efficient. I observed that when phones are out in class, most students are
successful and more efficient. The best part is all the information we could ever need
to be successful

Comparing and Contrasting of Coming of Age Stories Throughout the short stories,

two. Both Updike and Oates short stories focused on the sexuality of younger girls
and force the main characters to make a life changing decision. Leaving their
innocence behind, whether they like it or not, by the end of the stories, Sammy and
Connie have come into adulthood. Throughout comparing and contrasting the stories

transitional period of the main characters. While Where Are You Going, Where
Have You Been had multiple settings, the main climax took part at Connie s home,
and in, A P , the whole story took place at the supermarket. While A P was told in
first person, through Sammy s eyes, Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been

they both helped the reader understand the text thoroughly. Without A P being told

Of all the arcades in the world, she had to walk into mine. Tina, the only person

story spoke to me about love and I felt my heart ache. Of all the hearts in the world,
she had to walk into his. He s a player and the only one that could beat him at his
own game is Tina. The man, however, uses the arcade gamePacman to hide his
feelings and frustration toward Tina. Unlike most scenarios Tina is playing with
what I m assuming is, a man s heart once again maybe for her own pleasure. I feel as
if this would be a start to a romantic novelas it starts with Of all the arcades in the
world, she had to walk into mine. (Hill 3 Feb.) If you simply replace arcade with
heart you can see the romance the author is feeling, the love struck feeling. In a way I
feel as if the first sentence reveals the gender of the author as males typically hide
their feelings and this seems to be a man in love. The author puts Tina as a person
of importance as she is the starting point of the second sentence and the sentence
reveals she has the power to beat him/her, thus the author values her. I feel as if the
two sentences suffice and allows a reader to imagine the rest of the story. Also, the
size of the work allows for some mystery as the audience doesn t truly know what
the author means, so it s left for one s own thoughts. Thus, I would consider this to
be a work of literature as any piece of writing is no matter

One of the strategies that was suggested by Bailey and Burch was to determine if a

than letting it pile up. I tried my best to utilize the two minute strategy. I tried to
use this strategy when it came to answering emails and printing out materials that I
needed to use for class or at the practicum agency. The two minute strategy is great;
however, I do find that simple, easy, quick tasks take longer than I expect,
Sometimes I think replying to an email will only take two minutes and then I will
spend 10 minutes or more on it. I like this strategy however I think of it more as a 15
minute strategy because that is a more realistic time frame for me. Another

43. The Suffering Of Christians By Ascetic Christians
Christians that devoutly abstained form worldly pleasures were known as ascetic
christians. These christians recognized a distinct difference between the body and
the soul. Early ascetic christians privileged the soul over the body because the body
was a symbol of mortality and sin, while the soul was a symbol of spirituality and
salvation. Therefore, ascetic christians imposed suffering on their bodies and
renounced pleasure in order to draw closer to the divine nature of God by
strengthening the soul. These sufferings included abstaining from sex, giving up
material goods, and fasting. Different levels of sufferings were experienced by
ascetic christians and the audience of the works factored into the levels suffering
described in our readings. The suffering of christians written for ascetic christians
that were wealthy was vastly different than that of ascetic christians that simply
wanted to become extreme ascetics or better christians. One of the means of
suffering, or actually, renouncing of pleasure practiced by ascetic christians was
abstaining from sex. The abstaining of sex was used to become closer to God by
denying the worldly pleasure of sex. Sex satisfied the body, but ascetic christians
wanted to strengthen and satisfy their souls. They believed that sex was easy to
exploit and that it was the cause of many lustful sins. This proved that the body was
truly mortal and the cause of sin, and to strengthen the soul ascetic christians had to
abstain and purify

In All the Pretty Horses, internal events such as awakenings are often used to
convey the thoughts of John Grady to the reader. In this third person limited told
novel, the author frequently shows internal events as occasions with the same
amount of excitement and suspense as external events. One event in which an
internal event was presented was when John Grady was being held in prison. John
started to think about his father when he was being held in a prison camp and how
John never wanted to know what terrible things had been done to his father in the
past. However, John starts to grow curious and suddenly wants to know what had

The reader will start to fear for John s safety mostly because they don t know what
will exactly happen to him. The uncertainty of John s fate created an even more

thoughts of unsureness and anxiety within the reader s mind. Another internal
event is when Alejandra went to visit John in the barn to talk about what Duena
Alfonsa had said to him. After John Grady explained that he s not allowed to be
seen with her, Alejandra expresses the unfairness of her great aunt s order. At this
moment, John starts to believe that he sees sorrow within Alejandra and starts to
feel bad for her. He begins to feel concern for her and eventually agrees to disobey
Duena Alfonsa and spend time with Alejandra. Right after John agreed to do
whatever Duena Alfonsa asked him to do he breaks his promise once he sees

views on spending time with Alejandra. Due to John s sympathy towards Alejandra s
apparent sadness, he makes the decision to go out with

religions coming to power. With the
Roman Catholic Church becoming the dominant religious force in most of the
western world, they eventually became corrupt. The uproar started due to the
blasphemy of the Saracens similar Trinity to the one of the Catholic faith. Their
trinity is composed of Mohammed, Termagant, and Apollo, who the Christians see
as nasty and ridiculous little idols. In result, the Oxford Manuscript was produced
during this time of intense xenophobia towards Muslims. These evil acts of violence
and war are part of life, and as God fought for the good, the Devil fought for the bad.
The theme of good vs. evil played a major role throughout the Middle Ages. People
had the opportunity to choose between both religions, and this just created
problems. The Christians strong belief that God was the creator of earth made
them bias towards others who believed differently. In my overall opinion about the
epic, we can see the implications of loyalty between a lord to his vassal, and
between good vs. evil in the Middle Ages. Believing that God is the benevolent, or
God is all good, the tale s characters assume that he will intervene. By following the
Commandments and the things God expects from us, he will lead us in the right
direction.
46. James Agee and Walker Evans Essay
James Agee and Walker Evans
Fortune Magazine, in July and August of 1936, sent James Agee and Walker
Evans to research a story on sharecropping. In the preface of Let Us Now Praise
Famous Men, Agee describes it as a curious piece of work. They were to produce an
article on cotton tenantry in the United States, in the form of a photographic and
verbal record of the daily living and environment of an average white family of
tenant farmers, (IX). James Agee and WalkerEvans set out to write and photograph an
article for a magazine, and ended up experimenting with the form of the novel itself.

class, so he had no experience with cotton farming. When ... Show more content on

Agee and Evans set out to publish an article in Fortune Magazine, but when they
brought back their work to the editors, they were rebuked. The article was over 400
pages of controversial writing and even various book editors refused to publish it as
a novel. Finally in 1941 it was published by Mifflin in Massachusetts after the author
was forced to take out a few outlawed words in the state. They failed in their original
mission to produce an article, but undoubtedly presented a photographic and verbal
record of the average white southern tenant farmer families. By living with three
different families for four weeks, Evans depicted their innermost sorrows through his
photographs, and Agee portrayed and emboldened their spirit by his written words.
The novel itself was an experiment in form, with Evans photos all placed in the front
without captions, rather than dispersed throughout the novel. Even in the text, Agee
continually stops himself mid description and enters into a stream of consciousness
describing the difficulties of articulating accurately the tenant families true
expressions. For these reasons, it was considered a failure when it was published,
but also for the same reasons it was considered an amazing success twenty years later
in the 1960s.
In the Preface, Agee conveys that this is a book only by necessity. More seriously, it
is an effort in human actuality, in which the reader is no less centrally involved than

47. Theories Of Sales Promotion
CHAPTER3
THEORETICAL
BACKGROUND
Rapid Growth of Sales Promotion:
Sales promotion tools are used by most organizations, including manufacturers,
distributors, retailers, and not for profit institutions. They are targeted toward final
buyers (consumer promotions), retailers and wholesalers (trade promotion). Today, in
the average consumer packaged company, sales promotion accounts for 74 percent of
all marketing expenditures. Several factors have contributed to the rapid growth of
sales promotion, particularly in consumer market. First, inside the company manager
face greater pressures to increase their current sales, and promotion is viewed as an
effective short run sales tool. Second, externally, the company faces more
competition and competing brands are less differentiated. Increasingly efficiency has
declined because of rising costs, media clutter, and legal restraints. Finally,
consumers have become more deal oriented, and ever larger retailers are demanding
more deals from manufacture. In developing a sales promotion program, a company
must first set sales promotion objectives and then select the best tools for
accomplishing these objectives.
Objectives of Sales promotion:
Sales promotion objective vary widely. Sellers may use consumer promotions to urge

as providing the link between product knowledge and market. The role of sales
promotion is to stimulate consumer purchasing at the point of sales and dealers

48. Board Of Directors Essay
The board of directors is also highly influential to a corporation and should
therefore also be held accountable for supporting a corporation s ethical code of
conduct. The board of directors is responsible for looking out for the best interests
of shareholders (Cross Miller, 2012). The board of directors was designed to
monitor executives, however in practice this is not always the case (Cross Miller).
Obviously this is monitoring is a necessary duty. A proposed change to ensure that the
board of directors is monitoring the corporations top executives is to require that the
board submit quarterly a report on the financial information of the corporation as
provided to the board by the CEO and CFO. If this information does not... Show more

Therefore a policy proposed is that auditing firms not be paid by corporations but
rather by tax payers. This will place additional burdens on taxpayers, but rather
than experience another bailout, this easy to fall into conflict of interest
relationship needs to be prevented from ever occurring. Board of directors can
create a conflict of interest on their own by accepting large stock options from the
corporations they serve (PBS, 2002). These large incentives to serve can actually
work to blind corporate board members to unethical acts being carried out by
corporate officials.
Shareholders
Shareholders are a key component to the ethical quality of a corporation. One may
argue this is not the case since they are not directly involved in the day to day
operations of the corporation. However, shareholders are investing their funds
voluntarily in a corporation. Shareholders have a huge responsibility to support
companies that are positive ethical examples. Shareholders should spend time
researching a company before investing in the company so that they can be sure the
company is truly an ethical company. It can be easy to be distracted by the
performance of a business, Enron investors thought they were investing in a highly
innovative energy company (Serving History, 2011). Shareholders have
49. Drinking Motives
Drinking motives are defined as the reasons or final pathway to the consumption of
alcohol (Kuntsche, Knibbe, Gmel, Engels, 2006). Cooper (1994) had proposed four
types of drinking motives; (1) Enhancement motives involve drinking to increase
positive affect states or positive moods, such as sensation seeking and pleasurable
moments (Ham Hope, 2003). Alcoholis widely used to fulfil needs for novelty and
stimulation to create the thrills or sensation over the social situations. Reports
suggested that individuals who are internally generated are more consistent across a
drinking situation in how they drink than those of with external motives, resulting in
higher levels of alcohol consumption (Ham Hope, 2003; Loxton, Bunker, Dingle,

50. Short Note On Emma Lazarus
Emma Lazarus, a nineteenth century Jewish American poet, was born on July 22,
1849 in New York City. Her parents, Moses and Esther Nathan Lazarus, had seven
children. She was the fourth of the seven to born, with five sisters and one brother.
Emma was born into one of the oldest and most prestigious Hebrew families in New
York. The Nathan Lazarus family was descended from the early Jewish settlers in
America. By the time Emma was born, they had been established in Manhattan for
four generations. The Lazarus family, descended from Sephardic Jews, were wealthy,
earning their fortune in the sugar refining business. Being born into a wealthy
family provided Emma with the resources to acquire a strong, rich, and classical
education. In 1866, at the age of seventeen, her poems and translations were first
published by her father, who was a very influential man at that time (Young, 1995).
Two years later, she sent her writing to Ralph Waldo Emerson, a respected American
poet and literary essayist and lecturer of the 19th century. He was impressed by her
work, and soon became her mentor, and friend (Young, 1995). During her lifetime, he
became a great resource of guidance and motivation.
Emma Lazarus was a well known author during her lifetime. In 1874, she was
recognized as an author of note (Young, 1995). She published more than 50 poems in
popular magazines, such as Lippincott s, The Century, and The Critic. In 1871, she
published a book of poetry called Admetus and Other

The physical distance was insignificant compared to the cultural, economic and
environmental difference of two parts. The only connection religion was not enough
to balance the enormous disparity created through economic oppression and cultural

their mother language. Urdu was spoken in the West and Bangla was spoken in the

Bangladesh from Pakistan was due to cultural differences. Pakistan was a multiracial

cultural differences led to the rise of ethics nationalism. It was Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto

53. Interest Rate Risk
Interest Rate Risk (IRR) Management
What is Interest Rate Risk :
Interest rate risk is the risk where changes in market interest rates might adversely
affect a bank s financial condition. The management of Interest Rate Risk should be
one of the critical components of market risk management in banks. The regulatory
restrictions in the past had greatly reduced many of the risks in the banking system.
Deregulation of interest rates has, however, exposed them to the adverse impacts of
interest rate risk.
What is the Impact of IRR: The immediate impact of changes in interest rates is on
the Net Interest Income (NII). A long term impact of changing interest rates is on the
bank s networth since the economic value of a bank s assets, ... Show more content on

Principle 8: Banks should measure their vulnerability to loss under stressful market

when establishing and reviewing their policies and limits for interest rate risk.

Effects of Television on Our Society
INTRODUCTION
Plato once, prophetically, posed a question that hints at the very core of this project.
In philosophizing on the issue of entertainment and its various, sometimes
questionable, sources he asked his fellow citizens to consider the following
Shall we just carelessly allow our children to hear casual tales which may be
devised by casual persons, and to receive into their minds ideas for the most part the
very opposite of those which we should wish them to have when they are grown up?
Shall we indeed? It is an ongoing debate. Plato obviously recognized the power
stories have to shape who and what we are, and although some may be reluctant to
admit to how much influence TV ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The work of communication theorist and professor, Stuart Hall, confirms that
meanings are not inherently in people; rather they are derived from external sources,
one primary source being the mass media to which we are repeatedly exposed; in our
homes, in our cars, and on the job. Hall asserts the media serves the myth of
democratic pluralism the pretense that society is held together by common norms,
including equal opportunity, respect for diversity, individual rights.. (Griffin 2000).
TV sitcoms may not be intended to mirror our society, but they are perceived as such
and the resulting ideology is a culture that at some level accepts what s being handed

examine these messages on a deeper, more critical level. OUTLINE

or her life. The sitcom is simply a show about day to day life, with funny situations
and problems and obstacles that must be overcome. People can relate to sitcoms
because the characters are just average families and average people with average
jobs. Sitcoms are essentially tapping at the root of American Humanism; drawing

55. Abuse Of Power In Hamlet
In Shakespeare s novels we see a lot of very important roles of power used,
especially in Hamlet. Revenge plays a very big part in the play. He uses this
vengence to help show how the main characters think throughout the play. The
characters in Hamlet who seek revenge obtain power more than those who don t.
One character that obtains power the most in the play is Hamlet. In the beginning of
the play, Hamlet is introduced to who he thinks is the ghost of his dead father who
was apparently killed by King Claudius and promises him that he will take revenge
for his death. Hamlet thinks about his revenge for a very long time and it pushes
anything from happening a little longer than expected. He thinks so much because
he is wanting to find the best way to get revenge of his father s death. He constantly
tries to prove that Claudius killed his father. He gets so many chances to go in action
and kill him but had waited because he felt if there were any good left in him it
should wait. Hamlet makes revenge very important in his life as shown throughout
the whole play. He thinks actions are pointless due to it always bringing up the
present. Hamlet notices Fortinbras and how he is only all action but still ... Show

56. Quotes From Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Quote One:
Golding writes, The shore was fledged with palm trees. These stood or leaned or
reclined against the light and their green feathers were a hundred feet up in the air.
The ground beneath them was a bank covered with coarse grass, torn everywhere by
the upheavals of fallen trees, scattered with decaying coconuts and palm saplings
(Golding 9 10).
In this quote it shows what the shore of the island looks like. Golding uses imagery
by using words to greatly describe what the shore would have looked like. Golding
uses words like green feathers to describe how the palm trees looked. He also uses
word to describe the sand. Golding does this so that the reader can feel like they
are there. He also makes the reader be able to smell the surrounds that the story
takes place in. This quote sets up where the meetings were and where they would
hang around. Golding does a great job at grabbing the reader attention by describing
the surround so the reader wants to get more and more.
Quote Two:
According to Golding, All at once, Robert was screaming and struggling with the
strength of frenzy. Jack had him by the hair and was brandishing his knife. Behind
him was Roger, fighting to get close. The chant rose ritually, as at the last moment of
a dance or a hunt.

Licensing may result in a firm s giving away its know how to a potential foreign

acquisition There are many benefits of acquiring current assets than undertaking
greenfield investments. First mergers and acquisitions are quicker to execute. In fast
evolving markets this is very important consideration. When Telefonica wanted to
build a service presence in Latin America, it did so through a series of acquisitions,
purchasing telecommunications companies in Brazil and Argentina. The reason was
Telefonica knew that was the quickest way to establish a sizable presence in the

those firms had valuable strategic assets such as brand loyalty, customer relationships,
trademarks or patents, distribution systems, production systems and so on. Hence it
was easier and less risky for Telefonica to acquire those assets than to build them
from ground up through a greenfield investment. Thirdly Telefonica might have
believed that they can increase the efficiency of the acquired unit by transferring
capital, technology or management skills. However, there are some risks involved in
merging with or acquiring the firms as companies may fail to realize
