This document summarizes how a student's media product follows conventions of real music magazines in its design, layout, and use of text and images, while also challenging conventions by focusing on guitarists rather than lead singers and solo artists. The design and layout mimic real music magazines. Text uses industry terms and jokes like real magazines. Images on the cover and inside pages follow conventions of highlighting artists. However, the focus on guitarists breaks from traditions of spotlighting lead singers.

2. The look
• My magazine follows many magazine conventions for example the
design and layout is one that would not look out of place on shelves
side by side with other music magazines.

3. The text
• Like most magazines the style of text is less formal using both
industry slang and jokes to get ideas and points across.
• Titles and headlines are large across the top of the page in bright
and bold colours in both mine and conventional music magazines.
• The contents page shows a title headline and provides a short
explanation of what the article is about
• The double page spread contains around half text half images similar
to most other music magazine double page spreads.

4. The images
• The front cover image follows the conventions of a single image with
surrounding text a strong convention in which it follows is the image
overlapping the magazine title, this is effective as it makes the image
jump out from the page catching your eye.
• The double page spread and contents page both contain relevant
images to give an insight of the lives of the artists.

5. What breaks conventions?
• When producing my magazine I though it to be important that I
follow the traditional conventions of magazine focusing specifically
on music magazines, however, the way in which my magazine
focuses on guitarists challenges the traditional focus of lead singers
and solo artists.
