1. 1. In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. One convention I have used is having a contrasting background to the headline text
colour. For mine, I have gone with the classic black & white combination. White is
also a conventional colour to be used for text in music magazines. This helps the
masthead stand out as well producing a more attractive look.
Magazines usually stick to the
convention of using a medium
shot or close up for their main
image on the front cover. I have
followed this convention in
order to get a clear view of both
facial expression and clothing
choices.
Main cover lines are usually
larger than other cover lines.
This is shown on my magazine.
This is done in order to draw
further attention to those
stories in particular.
My masthead is also featured
at the top of the page, as
with many other magazines.

3. Another convention my magazine follows is having a
base line at the bottom which allows the reader to
find out articles and information that will be featured
in the magazine.
I have used a smaller image on my
front cover in order to draw more
attention to the main cover line
(similar to a puff). This is another
convention of music magazines.
One convention I have broken is putting the date line
under my masthead along with the issue number.
Most magazines would include the date in the bar
code.
I have included a strap line in my magazine which many
magazines choose to include. Straplines are usually a short and
memorable phrase in order to create a sense of association
between issues; helping with building a brand.

4. CONTENTS PAGE:
I have challenged
conventions on my contents
page by not featuring my
masthead. Instead, I have
chosen to create a sense of
association and builds brand
identity through my house
style.
My house style has been kept to a simple
and consistent colour scheme of black,
white, red and grey.
By clearly titling/ headlining my contents
page as so, I am following basic
conventions of music magazines.
Another convention I have used is
rule of thirds. Despite not having
even and vertical thirds, there clear
divisions displayed on my contents
page as with other music magazines.
.
I have also used subheadings
in order to inform the readers
of other articles featured in
the magazine.
5. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD:
I am following conventions in my magazine
by devoting a whole page to an image of
my artist, usually a medium shot. However
I have chosen a long/ extreme long shot in
order to establish background and setting.
It is also a
convention to use
columns in a
magazine article.
Another convention
of music magazines
is using grab quotes
in order to draw in
the reader and
convince them to
One way I have challenged
conventions is by not using a sub
heading to introduce the article. I
chose not to do this as the article
itself sums up the interview without
needing an introduction. I also did
this to save space and keep a
constant layout.
By including my strap line on
my double page spread I am
building brand association;
another convention of music
magazines.
